IB DP Psychology Tutor in Dubai

Hiring an IB DP Psychology tutor in Dubai is a budgeting decision before it is an academic one. Published rates across the emirate run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the student-tutor end to AED 650 at the premium end, and most of that gap is about who marks the essays. This page prices the subject component by component, shows the seven variables that move a Dubai quote, and sets out the two-year arithmetic. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video.

  • Every AED figure here is a market band with its source, not our price
  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time
  • Timed essays marked between lessons and returned with criterion letters

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Price the marks, not the hours

Most Dubai families begin this search with a rate in mind and no idea what the rate buys. That is understandable: three of the six pages ranking for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no family here transacts in. So the first job of this page is to put honest AED bands on the table, say where each band comes from, and then show which parts of IB Psychology those bands actually fix. Nothing below is an IB Gram price list. Our own figure comes after a free trial lesson and a written plan, because the right number depends on the level, the option and how much marking you want done between sessions.

Psychology is unusual among Diploma subjects in that almost nothing is memorisation-only and almost nothing is calculation. The grade is produced in writing: three short-answer questions of nine marks each in the first section of Paper 1, one 22-mark extended response in the second, option essays in Paper 2, and an experimental report of up to 2,200 words carrying between a fifth and a quarter of the final grade. Every one of those is marked against published criteria. That matters for your budget, because the cheapest tier of tutoring in this market sells lesson hours and nothing else, and a lesson hour on its own cannot mark a 22-mark essay.

The second thing that moves a Dubai quote is geography, in the dull literal sense. A visiting tutor charges for the drive whether the invoice itemises it or not. A 40-kilometre run from Mirdif to Dubai Marina at five on a school night is commonly forty-five minutes to an hour each way, and that time is paid for somewhere. Online delivery removes it, which is why the in-home band in this emirate sits roughly AED 180-500 an hour while the online specialist band sits roughly AED 200-450. The online figure buys more teaching inside the same money, and it widens the pool from whoever lives nearby to whoever actually teaches your child's option.

The third variable is the calendar. Diaries for subject specialists in Dubai tighten from January, through the mock window, and into the final run before the May session. A family that arranges Psychology support in October is negotiating in a loose market; a family that arranges it in March is negotiating in a tight one, and will usually pay at the upper end of whichever band it is in. Costing the two Diploma years in advance, term by term, is the single cheapest thing a parent can do, and the table further down this page does exactly that so you can see where the money clusters.

What follows is deliberately arithmetic rather than reassurance. You will find the market bands and who publishes them, the seven variables that push a quote up or down in Dubai specifically, the assessment weightings you are buying against, a term-by-term plan with indicative monthly figures, the travel maths behind the in-home premium, tutoring set against the school bill under the KHDA fee freeze, a list of things to refuse to pay for, and the permit position that tells you who may legally take your money for private tuition here. If one of those answers your question on its own, take it and leave the rest.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology is a Diploma Programme subject, but the families searching for it in Dubai arrive from three different places: an MYP Individuals and Societies background, an IGCSE background with no psychology at all, or a mid-course switch. Each route has a different starting cost, because each has a different gap to close before essay work can begin.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Psychology sits in Group 3, Individuals and Societies, at Standard or Higher Level. Standard Level is built on the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches plus one option; Higher Level adds the HL extensions, a second option essay in Paper 2 and a separate research-methods paper. The published teaching allocation is 150 hours at Standard Level and 240 at Higher Level, and that 90-hour difference is the honest reason an HL plan costs more than an SL one.

In Dubai the subject is offered across the emirate's IB World Schools, from Al Barsha to Nad Al Sheba, but the option taught varies school by school. Two students in the same year group at neighbouring schools can be revising entirely different Paper 2 content. Ask the DP coordinator which option is on the timetable before you buy a single hour, because that answer decides how many tutors in the market can usefully teach your child.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Individuals and Societies gives a student the habit of using a command term and supporting a claim with evidence, which transfers directly to the nine-mark short-answer questions. What it does not give is the named-study discipline the Diploma expects: a study with a researcher, a year, a method, a result and a limitation, recalled under time pressure. That is the first thing a Year 11 MYP student needs built, and it is cheap to build early.

Several Dubai schools run the full IB continuum, so a student moves from MYP straight into DP Psychology inside the same building. Those students usually need fewer catch-up hours on skills and more on content volume. Families moving in from a non-IB school mid-continuum are the ones who benefit most from a short diagnostic block in the summer before DP1 rather than an open-ended weekly commitment from September.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and GCSE entry route

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE students rarely study psychology before the Diploma, so DP1 begins with no subject vocabulary at all. The advantage is that IGCSE Biology and English Language have already taught experimental control and paragraph discipline. The gap is the research literature. A student arriving this way typically needs six to ten focused sessions in DP1 Term 1 on approach-level content and study recall, then settles into ordinary essay practice.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai enrolment at around 37 per cent, and most of them run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the IB Diploma. That means a large share of Dubai's DP Psychology cohort is meeting the subject for the first time in Year 12. Build the starting cost around that reality rather than assuming prior knowledge nobody has.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme combines DP courses with a career-related study, so a CP student may take Psychology as one of their DP subjects without sitting the full Diploma. Assessment for that single subject is identical: same papers, same experimental report, same criteria. What changes is the workload around it, which usually makes a shorter, sharper support block more sensible than a two-year weekly arrangement.

The Career-related Programme is offered by a small number of Dubai schools rather than across the board, so a CP Psychology student often cannot find a classmate doing the same thing. Online one-to-one solves that: the match is made on the subject and level, not on who happens to be teaching in the same postcode.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Psychology is rarely the only subject a Dubai Diploma student needs help with, and the second subject is usually the one sharing an essay-writing problem rather than a content problem. The grid below is the Group 3 cluster plus the partners that most often appear on the same timetable.

Psychology

HL and SL

Three approaches, one option at Standard Level and two at Higher, the 22-mark extended response and a 2,200-word experimental report. Marks are lost on critical thinking and on studies recalled without a method or a limitation, not on enthusiasm for the subject.

History

HL and SL

A source-based first paper on a prescribed subject, world history topics in the second, and a Higher Level regional option paper of three essays. Shares Psychology's problem of knowing the content and still writing mid-band answers because the question was not addressed directly.

Geography

HL and SL

Optional themes, the global change core and a Higher Level extension on global interactions, plus a fieldwork report assessed over six criteria. Data-handling marks are the quickest to recover and the most often left on the table.

Global Politics

HL and SL

Power, sovereignty, human rights, development and peace, assessed through a source-based paper, essays and an internally assessed engagement with a political issue. Students strong in Psychology often struggle here with theory applied to a live case.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools, techniques and theories applied to real organisations, with a written commentary at Standard Level and a research project at Higher. The command-term discipline is close enough to Psychology that one tutor can often cover both.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics, the global economy and a portfolio of commentaries on published news articles. Diagram accuracy and evaluation are where the grade moves, which makes it a marking-heavy subject in the same way Psychology is.

Philosophy

HL and SL

The core theme on being human, optional themes, a prescribed philosophical text and an internal assessment built from non-philosophical material. Useful pairing for a Psychology student who likes argument but needs to stop narrating.

Biology

HL and SL

The common science partner for a Psychology student heading towards a health or neuroscience degree. Overlaps the biological approach directly, and the scientific investigation teaches the statistical reasoning the Psychology report needs.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics content here maps onto the Psychology report: measures of central tendency, dispersion, and the inferential test the student must justify rather than simply run. Many report rescues are really maths rescues.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The TOK essay and exhibition sit outside subject grades but draw on Psychology constantly, especially on the reliability of evidence from human participants. Feedback here is about the structure of a claim, never about supplying one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways Dubai families buy Psychology support, with the cost consequence of each stated rather than implied. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE, and the comparison table further down shows what that trade actually buys you.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A 60- or 90-minute session at a fixed slot, screen-shared so the student's own writing is on the page in front of both of you. Ninety minutes is the honest length once essay work starts, because a 22-mark response and its feedback do not fit inside an hour alongside anything else. The cost difference between the two lengths is the most common place a plan quietly inflates.

  • Fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time
  • Screen-shared writing, not a lecture
  • 60 minutes for content, 90 once essays start
  • Recording available for revision where the student consents

Essay-marking cycle between lessons

The student writes to time, sends the script, and gets it back annotated against the published criteria with a band and the specific reason for it. This is the component most budget tiers exclude, and it is where the marks in Psychology actually sit. Ask any provider in Dubai whether marking is inside the hourly rate or billed separately before you compare two quotes.

  • Written to time, marked against criteria
  • Criterion letters and band reasoning in writing
  • Returned before the next session, not after
  • Builds a file you can read as a parent

Experimental report supervision block

A finite block of sessions around the internally assessed report: choosing a replicable published study, the ethics position for a school-age sample, the statistical test and its justification, and feedback on the student's own drafts. Bought as a block rather than a retainer, because the work has a start and an end and should not become a standing monthly charge.

  • Replicable study selection and scope control
  • Ethics and consent for a school-age sample
  • Choosing and justifying the statistical test
  • Feedback on drafts the student has written

Paper 3 research-methods clinic

Higher Level only. A short run of sessions on the unseen research summary: identifying the method and the sampling technique, discussing generalisability and credibility, and answering to the mark allocation rather than at length. Worth buying separately because it is a different skill from essay writing and responds quickly to drilling.

  • Unseen summaries under timed conditions
  • Method, sampling and ethics identification
  • Generalisability and credibility arguments
  • Answer length matched to the marks available

What an IB DP Psychology tutor in Dubai costs, and what the price is actually for

Market rates for IB Psychology tuition in Dubai run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 at the premium end. The bands below are compiled from providers' own published rate cards and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table. They are the market, not an IB Gram price list, and they are quoted per 60 minutes unless a provider states otherwise.

The useful question is not which band is cheapest but which band can do the thing Psychology needs. The subject is assessed almost entirely in writing, so the deciding feature of any tier is whether a 22-mark response gets marked against the published criteria by someone who has done it before. A tutor at AED 60 an hour can revise content with a student competently. Marking an extended response and explaining why it sat in the 13-16 band rather than the 17-19 band is a different job, and the market prices it differently.

Read the right-hand column of the table before the rate column. It names what each tier typically cannot do for this subject, which is the information every published rate card in this market leaves out. A family that matches the tier to the task usually spends less in total than a family that buys the cheapest hour and then buys it again because nothing changed.

One note on comparing quotes: ask whether the figure is per hour or per lesson, whether marking between lessons is inside it, and whether the price stated includes VAT. Those three questions explain most of the apparent price differences in this emirate, and any provider who will not answer them in writing has told you something useful.

Seven variables that move a Dubai Psychology quote

Two families in the same building can be quoted AED 180 and AED 420 for what sounds like the same thing. The difference is almost never negotiating skill. It is a handful of specific variables, and each one is checkable before you commit.

Level is the biggest single driver, and it is arithmetic rather than opinion. Standard Level carries a published allocation of 150 teaching hours and three assessed components; Higher Level carries 240 hours, a second option essay in Paper 2 and a separate research-methods paper. A Psychology HL tutor in Dubai is pricing against a syllabus that is half as large again, so an HL plan that costs the same as an SL plan is usually buying fewer weeks rather than cheaper hours.

Marking is the variable that hides best. A rate card that quotes AED 150 an hour with marking billed separately can land higher in total than one quoting AED 260 with marking included, and most families only discover this in February. Session length works the same way: an hour is enough for content recall and not enough for a timed essay plus feedback, so a 60-minute rate and a 90-minute rate are not comparable per hour.

The remaining drivers are the month you book in, the delivery format, which Paper 2 option your school teaches, and who is actually teaching. The option matters more in Dubai than people expect: the four options are not equally taught across the emirate's schools, and a less common one narrows the pool of tutors who can usefully teach it. Narrow pool, longer wait, firmer price.

What you are buying, component by component

Before you buy hours, know where the marks are. The weightings below are those published in the current Psychology subject guide; confirm your child's cohort with the DP coordinator, because the IB revises guides on a cycle and a school can be teaching an outgoing or incoming version in any given year.

Paper 1 is the largest single block at either level, and it contains two very different jobs. Section A is three short-answer questions worth nine marks each, on the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches. These are the cheapest marks in the subject to recover: the content is finite, the structure is repeatable, and a student who is losing marks here is usually mismanaging time rather than missing knowledge. Section B is one extended response worth 22 marks, chosen from three, and at Higher Level the HL extensions are examinable within it.

Paper 2 is the option paper: one essay at Standard Level, two at Higher. Because schools choose their options, this is the component where generic tutoring fails most visibly. Paper 3, sat only at Higher Level, presents an unseen summary of a piece of research and asks about method, sampling, generalisability and ethics. It is a research-literacy test rather than a content test, which is why it rewards short, targeted drilling and punishes general revision.

The experimental report is internally assessed and externally moderated: a replication of a simple published study, a maximum of 2,200 words, and 22 marks across four criteria. It is the only component where a student can bank marks months before the examinations, which makes it the most cost-efficient thing to support in DP1 rather than DP2.

Costing the two Diploma years, term by term

A two-year Diploma Psychology plan is not a flat monthly fee. The work changes shape four or five times, and so should the spend. The table below builds indicative monthly figures from the AED per hour bands earlier on this page at four sessions a month, and sits inside the monthly ranges Bestimate publishes for Dubai: roughly AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist support in an examination year.

The pattern most Dubai families settle into is light in DP1 Term 1, a short intensive block in the summer bridging into DP2 for the experimental report, and a heavier two-session week from the mock window to the final run. Spreading the same total evenly across 22 months costs more and achieves less, because the hours land when there is nothing urgent to fix.

Two Dubai-specific dates belong in the plan. Ramadan shifts the whole evening timetable: sessions move to the post-Iftar window or to earlier afternoon slots, and most families reduce frequency for those weeks rather than cancel. The long summer break pulls families out of the country for six to eight weeks, which is either a hole in the plan or the perfect window for report work, depending on whether you book it. Online delivery is what makes the second option possible, because the timezone follows the student.

Figures below are indicative monthly ranges built from published market bands, not quotations. Your own number depends on level, option, session length and whether marking is inside the rate.

The in-home premium in Dubai is a travel bill, not a teaching bill

In-home tutoring is a real service in this emirate and plenty of families prefer it. It is worth being precise about what the premium buys. The published in-home band for Dubai runs roughly AED 180-500 an hour including travel, against roughly AED 200-450 for an online subject specialist. The in-home figure covers a teaching hour plus a drive; the online figure covers a teaching hour. At the same spend, one of them contains more teaching.

The table below takes five ordinary Dubai journeys and shows the unpaid time involved, using approximate road distances and the kind of evening timings Google Maps shows at 17:00 on a weekday. The point is not that the drive is unreasonable. The point is that it exists, it is finite, and somebody pays for it. A tutor who absorbs it limits how far they will travel, which is why in-home availability in a given community is narrow and subject-specific.

For Psychology the trade is sharper than for most subjects, because of the option problem. An in-home search is a search within driving distance of your villa. An online search is a search across every tutor who teaches your child's Paper 2 option. If your school teaches a less common option, the second search has candidates and the first may not.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons for Dubai families are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own script on a shared screen. We would rather state that plainly on the page than let a parent discover it on a phone call.

Tutoring cost next to the Dubai school bill

Context changes how a tutoring figure feels. Dubai's private-school sector enrolled 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent, according to the Dubai Media Office. The Diploma cohort is therefore a minority of a very large market, which is exactly why subject-specific Diploma support is thinner on the ground than general tutoring.

On fees, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family already paying a Diploma-year tuition bill, a frozen fee is the first year in a while where a tutoring line can be added without a fee rise competing for the same money. Setting the KHDA private school fees position next to your tutoring plan is a more honest comparison than looking at the hourly rate alone.

Supply is moving too. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four following a UK curriculum and three the International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. More IB places means more Diploma candidates competing for the same small pool of subject-specific tutors in two years' time, which is an argument for arranging support early rather than a scare tactic.

The practical conclusion for a budget: compare a term of tutoring against the component of the grade it is meant to move, not against the school fee. A report-supervision block that touches a fifth to a quarter of the final Psychology grade is a different purchase from a general revision retainer, even when both are quoted at the same hourly rate.

07

What a Dubai family should refuse to pay for

  • No completed Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or coursework, at any price
  • No bundled past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables
  • No promised grade, no points total, no university place
  • No self-generated star rating treated as evidence
  • No overseas phone number standing in for a UAE presence

Some things sold in this market are worthless, and a few are dangerous. The clearest is any offer to supply completed assessed work. One provider ranking for UAE searches advertises finished Internal Assessments at a fixed price. Buying one is academic malpractice under IB rules and puts a student's entire Diploma at risk, not just one subject grade. A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has produced; that is the whole of the legitimate service, and it is a real differentiator in this SERP rather than a disclaimer.

Next, refuse to pay for syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as a bundled download. Those materials belong to the IB and the examination boards, and a tutoring provider redistributing them is infringing copyright, not adding value. The legitimate version is a tutor who references the official documents, tells you where to find them, and works with what your child's school has issued.

Then the claims. No tutor can promise a grade, a points total or a university place, and an outcome promise is the surest sign of a provider who has not thought about what they are selling. Treat self-published star ratings with the same scepticism: several providers in this market display ratings they generate themselves, sometimes two different figures on the same page. A rating with no countable, attributable reviews behind it is decoration.

Last, a practical Dubai check. If the conversion path on a UAE page is an overseas phone number, ask directly where the tutor is and in what timezone the lesson will run. A page showing a Dubai address it does not occupy is misrepresenting itself, and a parent is entitled to ask the question before any money moves.

08

Who may legally take your money for private tuition in Dubai

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The MoHRE private tutor permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on private tuition work permits, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time and no published fee.

Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. The useful thing for a parent is not the penalty but the question: ask a prospective private tutor whether they hold the MoHRE private tutor permit, and treat an evasive answer as an answer.

A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor. It needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, obtained through initial approval and then completed within a set window, with annual renewal requested ahead of expiry. That permit is specific to institutes with premises, which is why 'KHDA approval' used loosely in tutoring advertising is so often meaningless. IB Gram does not hold a KHDA institute permit and does not claim one; we are an online matching platform, and we name the regulator here to explain what it governs, not to borrow its authority.

One more rule that catches families by surprise. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit code of conduct carrying a similar restriction. Verify the current wording against the authority's own policy document before relying on it, and in any emirate do not ask a class teacher to tutor your child privately for money.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Dubai is a city where a twenty-minute journey at ten in the morning is an hour at five in the afternoon, and that single fact sits inside every in-home tutoring rate quoted in the emirate. The notes below are about cost and logistics rather than scenery, because those are what change the number on your invoice.

Dubai Marina

Tower living with building access, visitor parking charges and lift waits that a visiting tutor prices in. Most of the emirate's subject specialists live inland, so an in-home Psychology rate quoted here is usually at the upper end of the market band.

Arabian Ranches

Villa communities with an IB continuum school on the doorstep, which keeps local demand high and local availability thin. Families here often pay a premium for a visit that could be a longer online session for the same money.

Al Barsha

The densest cluster of IB World Schools in Dubai, so the local tutor pool is deep but heavily booked from January onwards. Arranging Psychology support here in October rather than March is worth real money.

Dubai Hills Estate

Newer community, good road links to Al Barsha and Downtown, and a cohort still settling into school choices. Mid-course switches are common, which usually means a diagnostic block first and a weekly arrangement second.

Mirdif

Well served by schools on the Mirdif and Al Warqa side, but a long run to the Marina or Palm. A tutor living here who takes a Marina booking is charging somebody for ninety minutes of Sheikh Zayed Road.

Business Bay

Apartment living with parents working within walking distance of the flat, so sessions often sit later in the evening than the school-run window. Online delivery makes a 7.30pm start ordinary rather than exceptional.

Jumeirah

Older established neighbourhoods with a mix of British and IB schools and short internal journeys that lengthen sharply once Al Wasl Road is involved. Good candidate for an essay-marking cycle rather than extra contact hours.

Al Qusais

Deira-side community with a large Indian and British curriculum presence and fewer Diploma Psychology candidates, so a locally available subject specialist is rare. This is where the national online pool changes the answer completely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Barsha Heights

The heaviest concentration of Diploma candidates in the emirate, and the cluster where option choices differ most between neighbouring schools. Students we support from this area are usually balancing Psychology against a Group 4 science and a Higher Level maths course.

  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington International School

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and Arabian Ranches

Villa-community catchments with long-established IB provision and strong internal competition for Higher Level places. Psychology here is often a third Higher Level taken alongside Biology, which makes the research-methods paper the pressure point.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills

Nad Al Sheba, Meydan and Dubai Festival City

A spread-out cluster with several continuum schools and a long commute to the western districts. Families here are the most likely to tell us that a weekday in-home visit simply cannot start before six, which is what pushes them towards online sessions.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School
  • Uptown International School

Schools are named here as market context for families searching this phrase. IB Gram has no affiliation with, sponsorship from, or endorsement by any school or school group named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the option

Two facts decide everything else: Standard or Higher Level, and which Paper 2 option your Dubai school teaches. With those we can say honestly whether a specialist for that combination is available this week, next week, or not at all. Guessing at this stage is what produces a mismatched tutor and a wasted month.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with a diagnostic script

The first lesson costs nothing, needs no card details and carries no minimum term. The student writes a short timed response during or before it, so the tutor's first piece of feedback is about actual writing rather than a conversation about confidence. You get the marked script whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

A costed plan, not an open-ended retainer

You receive a written plan: which component the hours are aimed at, session length, whether marking is inside the rate, and what the monthly figure is. It is set against the market bands published on this page so you can see where our figure sits rather than taking it on trust.

  4. 04

    Marking cycle and monthly review

Timed scripts go out and come back annotated against the criteria, with a band and the reason for it. Once a month you get a short written summary: what has moved, what has not, and whether the plan should change shape. If the hours are not earning their keep, the review is where we say so.

  5. 05

If no specialist is free, we say so

Psychology at Higher Level with a less commonly taught option is a narrow match, and sometimes nobody suitable is available in the window you need. We will tell you that and give an honest wait, rather than filling the slot with a generalist. Where a UAE-based tutor is not available, the match may be a specialist elsewhere teaching in your timezone, and we say which.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands on this page are attributed to published provider rate cards and to Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, and dated. None of them is presented as our price. A number without a source is not information, and in a market where three of six ranking pages publish no price at all, showing the method is the differentiator.

Marking in writing, with criterion letters

Feedback arrives as an annotated script with a band and the reason for it, not a verbal summary at the end of a lesson. That gives you something to read as a parent and gives the student something to act on. It is also the component most budget tiers in Dubai exclude from the hourly rate.

Online, so the match is on the option

Because lessons run over live video, the search is across every tutor who teaches your child's Paper 2 option rather than across the tutors who live within a short drive of your community. For a subject where schools choose different options, that is the difference between a specialist and an approximation.

Honest limits on coursework

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on drafts the student has produced. Nobody here supplies text for an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a TOK essay, at any price. That boundary protects the student's Diploma, and we would rather state it on the page than leave it implied.

No lock-in, and no quiet escalation

The first lesson is free with no card details, there is no minimum term, and the plan is reviewed monthly in writing. If the sensible answer is fewer hours, or a finite block instead of a weekly slot, that is what the review will say. Plans that only ever grow are a business model, not a teaching judgement.

Scheduled around the Dubai school year

Sessions sit in Gulf Standard Time around the school-run window, move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan, and can run through the long summer break while a family is travelling. The academic calendar here is not the northern-hemisphere default, and a plan built on that default loses weeks every year.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much should a Dubai family budget each month for IB DP Psychology support?+

Build it from the hourly band rather than guessing a monthly figure. A single 60-minute session a week with a qualified subject teacher sits around AED 600-1,200 a month at published market rates; a 90-minute weekly session with an IB specialist, marking included, lands nearer AED 900-1,800; two sessions a week through the mock window runs AED 1,600-2,800. Bestimate's Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions follow the same shape: AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist support in an examination year. These are market figures, not our quotation.

Is the hourly rate for IB Psychology lower than for Chemistry or Maths in Dubai?+

Not meaningfully. Published rate cards in this market price by level and tier rather than by subject, so an IB specialist band of roughly AED 200-450 an hour applies whether the subject is Psychology, Chemistry or Mathematics. What does differ is how the hours are used. Psychology is assessed almost entirely in writing, so a sensible plan spends more on marking between lessons and less on worked-example practice than a Maths plan would. Two quotes at the same hourly rate can therefore buy quite different amounts of useful work, which is why the marking question matters more than the subject.

Does a Dubai Psychology quote usually include marking between sessions?+

Often not, and this is the largest hidden variable in the market. Budget tiers almost always sell the lesson hour alone. Mid-market and specialist tiers vary: some include a marked script each week, some bill marking separately at the same hourly rate, and some simply do not offer it. Since the 22-mark extended response and the option essays are where this subject's grade is produced, a plan without marking is paying for revision and hoping writing improves alongside it. Ask for the answer in writing before comparing two figures, because an apparently cheaper rate can total more.

Why is an in-home Psychology rate in Dubai higher than the online rate?+

Because the rate contains a drive. The published in-home band for Dubai is roughly AED 180-500 an hour including travel, against roughly AED 200-450 for an online subject specialist. A 40-kilometre run from Mirdif to Dubai Marina at five in the afternoon is commonly 45 to 60 minutes each way, and that time is paid for whether the invoice itemises it or not. The second cost is narrower choice: an in-home search is limited to tutors willing to drive to your community, while an online search covers everyone who teaches your child's Paper 2 option.

Do Psychology tutoring rates in Dubai rise before the May examination session?+

Rates inside a tier are reasonably stable, but availability is not, and in practice that has the same effect on what you pay. Specialist diaries fill from January, through the mock window, and into the final run before the May session, so a family arranging support in March is choosing from what is left and usually paying at the upper end of the band. Booking in September or October costs the same per hour and gives a genuine choice of tutor. If you are starting late, be specific about the component you want fixed; a narrow brief is easier to place than an open one.

Is a package of ten Psychology sessions better value than paying weekly?+

It depends on what the package contains. A block is the right shape for finite work: experimental report supervision, a Paper 3 clinic at Higher Level, or an intensive run before mocks all have a beginning and an end. A block bought as a general discount on an open-ended arrangement is usually worse value, because it commits money before anyone knows which component needs the hours. Ask whether unused sessions expire, whether marking is inside the block, and whether the block can be paused during the long summer break or Ramadan without losing sessions.

Does VAT apply to the Psychology tutoring price we are quoted in Dubai?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing, because the only thing any page should tell you is whether its own quoted figure is inclusive or exclusive. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general rule here: that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance or a tax adviser, and pages that assert it casually are guessing. What you can insist on is a quotation that says clearly whether AED figures include VAT, and a tax registration number where one is being charged.

What does supervision of the Psychology experimental report cost separately?+

It is usually bought as a block rather than an hourly add-on, because the work runs across weeks. Four to six sessions is typical, which at market specialist bands lands roughly AED 1,000-2,000 as a one-off. That covers choosing a replicable published study, scoping it so the results are analysable, the ethics position for a school-age sample, choosing and justifying a statistical test, and feedback on drafts the student has written. It does not include producing text; nobody legitimate offers that. The report carries 20 to 25 per cent of the final grade, which is why this block is the most cost-efficient support in the whole plan.

Can we reduce Psychology costs by sharing sessions with another student?+

Small-group rates in Dubai run roughly AED 90-200 per student per hour, so the saving is real. It works best for content coverage: the three approaches, study recall, revisiting an option. It works badly for essay work, because two students write differently and a 22-mark response needs individual band reasoning rather than general advice. A practical compromise many families use is group sessions for content through DP1 and individual sessions with marking once extended responses start. Check that both students sit the same level and the same Paper 2 option, or the group collapses into two half-lessons.

What is the cheapest way to prepare for the Higher Level research-methods paper?+

A short clinic rather than a long course. Paper 3 presents an unseen summary of a piece of research and asks about method, sampling, generalisability and ethics; it is a research-literacy skill, not a content load, and it responds quickly to drilling. Three to five focused sessions with unseen summaries done under time, marked, and reviewed will usually move it further than a term of general revision. That is a genuinely cheap intervention against a component carrying 20 per cent of the Higher Level grade, and it is the best-value thing on most HL plans.

How many Psychology sessions does a Dubai student usually need before mocks?+

There is no honest universal number, and anyone who quotes one has not seen the student's writing. What we can describe is the common shape: a diagnostic timed response first, then weekly 90-minute sessions with a marked script each week from about eight to ten weeks before the mock window, moving to two sessions a week for the final three or four weeks if the gap between band and target is large. Fewer, better-aimed hours with marking between them beat more hours without it. The monthly review exists so the frequency can drop when it should.

Will we pay more if our child studies Psychology at Higher Level?+

Usually yes, and the reason is syllabus size rather than tutor appetite. Standard Level carries a published allocation of 150 teaching hours and three assessed components; Higher Level carries 240 hours, a second option essay in Paper 2 and a separate research-methods paper. Those extra components are extra work to prepare, so an HL plan either runs longer or runs at a higher weekly intensity. The one saving available is targeting: the research-methods paper responds to a short clinic, so the extra HL cost need not be spread evenly across two years.

Does IB Gram charge Dubai families for the first Psychology lesson?+

No. The first lesson is free, with no card details taken and no minimum term afterwards. The condition worth stating plainly is that it is one lesson per student, and it is a real teaching session rather than a sales call: the student writes a short timed response and leaves with it marked against the criteria. You keep that marked script whether or not you continue. If the tutor is not the right match, say so and we will either propose a different specialist or tell you honestly that we do not have one free.

What happens to our Psychology plan during Ramadan and the summer break?+

It changes shape rather than stopping. During Ramadan the evening timetable shifts, so sessions move to post-Iftar slots or earlier afternoon windows, and most families reduce frequency for those weeks instead of cancelling and losing momentum. The long summer break is the opposite opportunity: it is the natural window for experimental report work, and because lessons run over live video they follow a family travelling abroad. Both are budget questions as much as scheduling ones, which is why the term-by-term plan on this page treats them as planned stages rather than interruptions.

Is paying for a Psychology tutor worth it if our school already runs revision clinics?+

Sometimes it is not, and that is a real answer. If the school runs clinics on the extended response and returns marked practice, you may need nothing beyond the report block. Private support earns its place when it supplies something the school structurally cannot: individual band reasoning on every script, a specialist in a Paper 2 option taught by one teacher to a large class, or a Higher Level research-methods clinic. Ask the DP coordinator what marked practice the school provides first, then buy the gap. That is the cheapest advice on this page.

Start with the numbers, then decide

You now have the Dubai market bands in AED with their sources, the seven variables that move a quote, the component weightings you are buying against, a term-by-term plan, and the travel arithmetic behind in-home rates. If the sensible next step is a free trial lesson and a written plan priced against those bands, book one and keep the marked script either way. If the sensible next step is a conversation with your child's DP coordinator about which Paper 2 option they teach and what marked practice the school already provides, do that first. We would rather you spend nothing than spend badly.
