IB MYP Chemistry Tutor in Dubai

Quotes for an IB MYP chemistry tutor in Dubai arrive without any working shown: a number per hour, a monthly package, nothing about what the hour contains or what happens if you stop. This page does the arithmetic instead. Provider models compared with their own published AED rates, a two-year MYP 4 and 5 budget in three scenarios, the billing terms that quietly inflate a monthly bill, and where the last AED 1,000 before an assessment actually returns something. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

A chemistry hour in Dubai is sold as a number; here is what the number contains

Published hourly rates for science tuition in Dubai span from AED 33 to AED 650, which is a factor of twenty for something described in identical words on every website. Tutopiya lists online sessions from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65. Unitors publishes IGCSE support from AED 150 and IB support from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. All of those are the providers' own figures, read in October 2026.

What no page in this market publishes is what the hour contains, and that is where the money is decided. An hour can be a generic lesson on rates of reaction delivered to a student whose actual problem is converting grams to moles. It can be a marked script reviewed error by error. It can be ninety minutes of a tutor's evening spent driving, of which you pay for sixty. The hourly rate tells you none of this. The questions in this page are designed to extract it before you commit, because almost nobody volunteers it.

Chemistry is also the science where paying for the wrong hour is most expensive. MYP chemistry has a quantitative spine: the mole, concentration, mass calculations, limiting reagents in outline, and the processing of titration or mass-change data under criterion C. A student who cannot do that arithmetic will fail at reaction rates, at acids and bases, and at anything involving a balanced equation with numbers attached, and will present as weak at chemistry generally. Buy topic teaching for that student and you pay for explanations they already follow while the obstacle sits untouched.

The context in Dubai is unusually favourable for planning rather than panicking. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second of Dubai's economic incentives packages valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. For many households the school line is flat for the first time in several years. The sensible use of that is a planned two-year chemistry budget across MYP 4 and 5, not an emergency block of specialist hours in the spring.

So this page compares provider models on their own published rates, writes out three two-year budgets with the assumptions visible, lists the billing terms that turn a quoted rate into a different monthly number, and says where a small remaining budget before an assessment actually returns something. IB Gram's own model is one-to-one teaching over live video with a free trial lesson before anything is paid for. We do not provide in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The cost of chemistry support changes stage by stage, and not in a straight line. The steepest increase is not at the Diploma Programme, where families expect it, but at the start of MYP 4, where they rarely do. Here is what each stage asks for and what it tends to cost.

MYPAges 11-14 · MYP 1-3

Chemistry inside integrated sciences

Particle model, states of matter, mixtures and separation, acids and alkalis qualitatively, and simple reaction types. The arithmetic is light, so a careful generalist teaches this well and the budget tier of the market is genuinely adequate here. Support at this stage is usually one term, aimed at a habit rather than at content.

In Dubai this is the cheapest place to spend money on chemistry and the place where spending it pays off longest, because unit discipline and the reading of a balanced equation both start here. A single term of weekly sessions in MYP 2 or MYP 3 frequently removes the need for a specialist in MYP 4 altogether.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5

MYP Chemistry as a separate subject

Bonding, the mole and quantitative chemistry, rates of reaction, energetics in outline, acids and bases with titration work, and the beginnings of organic chemistry. Criterion tasks are unscaffolded and criterion C now demands processed data rather than recorded data. This is where rates move from the budget tier to the qualified tier.

Most Dubai continuum schools split the sciences at MYP 4, so a household that was paying for one science tutor meets three subject teachers, three rubrics and three deadlines in the same fortnight. Families who budget for one specialist plus two diagnostic sessions, rather than three weekly slots, spend roughly half as much and finish the term.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Standard or Higher Level, with an internal assessment designed by the student and externally examined papers. The quantitative demand rises sharply: concentration, equilibrium, energetics and organic mechanisms all assume the mole arithmetic that MYP 5 introduced. Specialist rates apply here, and the published Dubai specialist band runs from AED 200 to AED 450 and above.

Dubai students aiming at medicine or engineering abroad frequently need Higher Level Chemistry, which concentrates demand on a thin pool of specialists and pushes rates towards the upper end of the published band. Securing a regular slot early in Year 12 costs less than buying blocks of hours in the final two terms.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE Chemistry

Where a Dubai student sits IGCSE Chemistry instead of finishing MYP 5, for instance Cambridge 0620, the assessment is terminal and externally marked with no criterion coursework. Rates for IGCSE support sit below IB rates in this market: Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200.

That AED 50 gap between published IGCSE and IB rates is a useful signal about supply. British-curriculum schools hold 37 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 7 per cent for IB programmes, so IGCSE chemistry tutors are plentiful and MYP-experienced chemistry tutors are not. Price follows scarcity rather than difficulty.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What follows is MYP chemistry as the work actually sits in a session, with a note on how expensive each piece is to fix. Cheap here means a few sessions with lasting effect; expensive means genuine content teaching over several weeks.

The mole, mass and concentration

MYP 4-5

Grams to moles, moles to grams, and concentration in moles per cubic decimetre. Cheap to fix and devastating when missing, because every quantitative topic downstream depends on it. Four to six sessions of drilling usually settles it for the rest of the programme.

Balancing equations and reacting masses

MYP 4-5

Balancing is usually secure; using the balanced ratio to calculate a reacting mass is not. Students treat the coefficients as decoration. Cheap to fix once the link between the equation and the arithmetic is made explicit with worked pairs.

Bonding and structure

MYP 4-5

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding and the properties that follow from each. Moderately expensive, because the explanations are genuinely conceptual and because the explain command term demands a mechanism rather than a description of the property.

Rates of reaction

MYP 4-5

Collision theory, the effect of concentration, temperature, surface area and catalysts, and the gradient of a gas-volume curve. Cheap in theory and expensive in practice, because the gradient reading belongs to criterion C and is a graph skill rather than a chemistry one.

Acids, bases and titration data

MYP 4-5

Neutralisation, pH qualitatively, and the processing of titre values including discarding a rough titration and averaging concordant results. Cheap to fix and frequently untaught, so it is often the single best value session in the whole MYP 4 chemistry year.

Energetics in outline

MYP 5

Exothermic and endothermic changes, energy level diagrams, and the sign convention that trips most students. Cheap, because the error is almost always the sign rather than the concept, and a single session with six worked diagrams usually settles it.

Introductory organic chemistry

MYP 5

Homologous series, naming simple alkanes and alkenes, and the basic reactions. Moderately expensive, since it is new vocabulary and new pattern recognition at once, but it also prepares the ground for the most demanding section of DP Chemistry.

Criterion B chemistry investigation design

MYP 4-5 · 0-8

Hypothesis with a particle-level mechanism, variables named with the method of control, and a method that addresses hazard explicitly. Expensive per hour and cheap over time, because the same corrections apply to every investigation the student will design afterwards.

Criterion C processing of chemistry data

MYP 4-5 · 0-8

Averaging concordant titres, calculating a rate from a gradient, converting mass change into moles, and writing a conclusion that names the hypothesis. The largest pool of mechanically recoverable marks in MYP chemistry, and therefore the best value target.

Chemical language and symbol conventions

MYP 1-5

State symbols, formulae written with correct subscripts, and units on every quantity. Marks are lost here in small amounts across every paper, which makes it invisible in any single script and significant across a year. Cheap, and worth drilling early.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy chemistry support, with very different cost profiles. All are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and all begin with a free trial lesson whose terms are set out below.

Quantitative block, four to six sessions

The cheapest intervention with the longest payback. Four to six sessions drilling the mole, reacting masses, concentration and titre averaging inside real chemistry questions. Most students who looked broadly weak at chemistry stop looking weak once this holds, because the arithmetic was making several topics fail at once.

  • Fixed length, so the total cost is known in advance
  • Drilled inside chemistry questions, never as abstract arithmetic
  • A student-written reference card rather than a handout
  • Ends when accuracy holds under timed conditions

Weekly term support with fortnightly marked work

A standing weekly slot following the school's own chemistry sequence, with a marked piece every second session. Costs more in total and suits students whose arithmetic is secure but whose bonding and energetics need genuine teaching. Priced per session, never as an unbreakable term commitment.

  • Follows the school unit order, not a generic scheme
  • A marked piece every fortnight with written comments
  • Pause during school examination weeks at no charge
  • Reschedules accepted until the previous evening

Fortnightly maintenance

One session every two weeks, reviewing a marked piece and holding the habits in place. This is the arrangement we recommend after a successful block, and it is roughly half the monthly cost of a weekly slot. Most families who tried weekly for a term end up here and get more from it.

  • Half the monthly cost of a weekly arrangement
  • One marked piece reviewed each session
  • Scales back up before an assessment if needed
  • Suited to students already at a 5 or 6

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

What an IB MYP chemistry tutor in Dubai costs by provider model

  • Compare models, not brands; the rate includes different things in each
  • Examiner claims should come with evidence, and never imply marking access
  • The MoHRE permit is free for two years, so ask to see it
  • Replacement policy and trial terms decide what a mismatch costs

Comparing tutors by hourly rate alone is close to useless, because the models behind the rates differ in what they include. A marketplace rate excludes the vetting an agency does. An agency rate includes an account manager you may never speak to. An in-home rate includes a car. A tuition-centre monthly package includes a venue and a group. The table below compares the models rather than brands, and quotes published rates with their source and the month they were read, which is the only honest way to put numbers next to each other.

Two columns deserve explanation. The examiner column exists because premium pricing in this market is frequently justified by examiner experience, and that claim is rarely evidenced. We do not describe our tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners, because current examiner status is not something we can verify for an individual, and examiner status should never be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content. If a provider charges AED 650 on the strength of it, ask what evidence they will show you.

The permit column exists because it is checkable and free. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted at no cost for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which means a tutor without one has no financial excuse. Ask to see it. The replacement and trial columns matter because they determine what a mismatch costs you: if the answer to a bad match is a refund argument rather than a different tutor next week, the quoted rate understates the real risk.

A two-year MYP 4 and 5 chemistry budget, written out in three scenarios

Chemistry support is almost always bought one term at a time and almost always costs more that way, because reactive buying happens at the worst moment and at the worst rate. The alternative is to decide now what the two MYP years will contain. The table sets out three scenarios with their assumptions exposed, using the published Dubai qualified-tutor band of roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour so the figures can be checked against the market rather than taken on trust.

The lean scenario is the one most families underestimate. A quantitative block in the first half of MYP 4, then fortnightly maintenance, then a short block before the MYP 5 assessment, covers a surprising number of students. It works because the mole arithmetic is the real obstacle for most of them and it only needs fixing once. The middle scenario adds a weekly slot through MYP 4 for students who also need bonding and energetics taught properly. The intensive scenario is for students entering MYP 4 significantly behind.

Read the assumption column as carefully as the totals. Each scenario assumes sessions are paused rather than added during school examination weeks, that Ramadan sessions run shorter at post-Iftar or weekend times, and that the plan is reviewed each half term against marked work. Those three assumptions are what make the totals achievable; a plan that ignores them typically delivers two-thirds of the sessions at full price. Bestimate's own monthly estimates give a cross-check: AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist support in an assessment year.

Why chemistry costs more than biology in this market

  • Chemistry needs quantitative fluency on top of subject knowledge
  • IB programmes are 7 per cent of Dubai enrolment; IGCSE and CBSE dominate the tutor pool
  • One provider publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200
  • Booking early beats negotiating in a scarce segment

Families comparing quotes across the three sciences in MYP 4 often find chemistry priced above biology by a visible margin, and assume it reflects difficulty. It reflects supply. A tutor who can teach MYP biology needs secure subject knowledge and good command-term discipline. A tutor who can teach MYP chemistry needs those plus fluent quantitative handling, because half the marks in MYP 4 and 5 chemistry sit behind arithmetic that the biology syllabus barely touches.

The pool narrows further in Dubai specifically. International Baccalaureate programmes account for 7 per cent of private school enrolment in the emirate, against 37 per cent for British curricula and 26 per cent for Indian ones. A chemistry tutor in this city has almost certainly taught Cambridge 0620 or CBSE chemistry more often than they have marked an MYP criterion C titration table. The published gap between IGCSE and IB rates, about AED 50 an hour on one provider's own pages, is the market pricing that scarcity rather than pricing the subject.

The practical consequence is about timing rather than negotiation. Rates in a scarce segment do not fall when you ask; availability simply disappears first at the affordable end. Families who secure a chemistry slot in September pay the band's middle. Families looking in March, when every MYP 5 cohort in the city wants the same six weeks, pay the band's top or take whoever is left. If the budget is fixed, the lever that actually works is booking early and buying fewer, better-targeted hours, not haggling.

04

Six billing terms that decide what an hourly rate really costs

  • Is the figure per hour or per session, and what is the session length?
  • Is there a minimum booking, and does a 45-minute lesson bill as an hour?
  • What notice cancels a session without charge, and is a missed session banked?
  • What happens to a prepaid block if you stop or the tutor becomes unavailable?
  • Does the quoted figure include any tax, in writing?
  • If a trial is free, what condition is attached to it?

The gap between a quoted hourly rate and a monthly bill is made up of terms almost nobody asks about. Settle all six in writing before the first paid session and the monthly figure stops surprising you. None of these questions is rude; a provider who answers all six without hesitation is the one worth dealing with, and a provider who deflects two of them has told you something useful at no cost.

On tax specifically, keep the question narrow. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition depends on the provider's registration and the nature of the service, and no page should state another provider's tax position as fact. What a parent is entitled to is a plain answer about the figure in front of them: is this the amount payable, and does it include any tax. Get it in writing alongside the other five answers.

The term families regret skipping most often is the prepaid block. A discount for buying twenty hours is attractive in September and expensive in February when the student no longer needs twenty hours, or when the tutor becomes unavailable. Ask what happens to unused sessions, whether they expire, and whether they transfer to a different tutor or a different subject. The same applies to a stated free trial: if it is free, the condition attached to it should be visible on the same screen, which is why ours is written as one forty-five-minute session with no card details taken.

Group chemistry classes: when a lower rate per head is good value

  • Good value: first teaching of the mole, equation arithmetic, command terms, pre-test revision
  • Poor value: criterion task redrafts, one student's data, marked-script review
  • Ask the group size and whether every student is in the same MYP year
  • Published group band at MYP 4-5: roughly AED 70-130 an hour per student

Group rates in this market sit at roughly AED 70 to AED 130 an hour per student at MYP 4 and 5 level, and tuition centres advertise monthly packages from about AED 799. Against an individual qualified rate of AED 150 to AED 300 that looks decisive, and for some work it is. For other work it is money spent on a seat in a room.

Group work is good value when the content is genuinely shared and the pace can be common: teaching the mole for the first time, drilling balanced-equation arithmetic, working through command terms, revising bonding before an end-of-unit test. Four MYP 4 students in the same cohort with the same gap will learn as much in a group as individually, and the discussion sometimes helps. Ask what the group will be doing, how many students are in it, and whether they are all in the same MYP year.

Group work is poor value the moment the work becomes specific to one student's own material. A criterion B plan cannot be redrafted in a group, because it is one student's plan. A criterion C titration table cannot be processed in a group, because it is one student's data. A marked script cannot be reviewed error by error in a group without exposing one student's work to the others. If a provider offers group pricing for that work, the honest interpretation is that the hour will be a generic lesson on how investigations work, which is not the thing you were buying.

06

Premium pricing, examiner claims and what a high rate should buy

  • Scarcity is the only one of the three premium justifications that is easily verified
  • We do not claim examiner status, and no examiner claim implies marking access
  • Any score claim needs the number of students, the years and the method
  • Ask instead which criterion strands the tutor has marked, and at what year group

At the top of the Dubai market, AED 500 to AED 650 an hour is published, and it is usually justified on one of three grounds: examiner experience, a track record of high scores, or scarcity of the subject and level. Only the third is straightforwardly verifiable, and it is also the least often stated. The first two deserve direct questions before a parent pays four times the qualified band.

On examiner claims, the position we take is deliberately conservative. We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners, because current examiner status for an individual is not something we can evidence, and because examiner status must never be used to imply access to marking schemes, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content. If a provider's price rests on that claim, ask what they will show you and what exactly it entitles your child to. A reasonable answer describes familiarity with mark schemes. An unreasonable one hints at inside knowledge.

On track records, ask for the method rather than the headline. A claim of a particular average score needs the number of students, the years covered and how students were counted to mean anything, and most published versions in this market supply none of the three. No provider, at any price, can promise a grade in a programme whose boundaries the school applies. What a high rate can legitimately buy is a genuinely scarce specialism at a genuinely scarce hour, and in MYP chemistry the honest version of that is a tutor who has marked criterion C work in this subject at this year group. That is a question with a checkable answer.

07

The last AED 1,000 before a chemistry assessment: where it actually returns

  • Hour one: diagnose by counting error types on a past paper or marked task
  • Hours two and three: the dominant quantitative error, usually moles or titres
  • One hour on criterion C processing if the assessment includes it
  • Final hour: a timed paper, reviewed immediately, on screen if the sitting is on screen

Budgets often run out in the final weeks, which is exactly when the temptation to buy a large block is strongest. At the published qualified band, AED 1,000 buys between three and six hours. Spent well, that is enough to move specific marks. Spent as general revision it buys company for an evening, and the student would have revised anyway.

The first hour should be diagnostic, working through a past chemistry paper or the last marked task while the tutor counts error types rather than correcting each one. The second and third should address whichever quantitative error dominates, almost always mole conversion or titre averaging, because those recur across every paper. If criterion C work is part of the assessment, one hour on processing and the conclusion structure is worth more than three hours of content revision. Keep the final hour for a timed paper reviewed immediately afterwards.

What not to buy with the last AED 1,000: new content in the final fortnight, which competes with consolidation and usually loses; a two-hour in-home visit, where a substantial share of the fee is travel; or a group revision class covering topics the student already has. And if the assessment is an on-screen MYP 5 sitting, insist that the timed practice happens on screen rather than on paper, because the interface costs marks that content revision cannot recover. Confirm the format with the MYP coordinator first; we publish no IB dates on these pages, since the IB's own site cannot be verified automatically.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and how chemistry spending differs across them

Teaching is online, so your address does not change who can teach your child or what an hour costs us to deliver. It does change what the in-home alternative would cost locally, and when a session can realistically run. These are the patterns families across the city describe.

Arabian Ranches, The Springs and The Lakes

Where the in-home premium bites hardest, since a visiting tutor commits an evening for one paid hour and typically asks for a two-hour minimum. Online pricing removes that and the saving is usually the largest in the city.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Short commutes from several continuum campuses, so a 4.30pm session is viable and the hour is spent on a task sheet issued the same day. Fewer wasted sessions means fewer hours bought overall.

Dubai Marina, JBR and JLT

Apartment households where tuition-centre group classes are a nearby alternative at advertised monthly package rates. Worth comparing honestly against one-to-one, since group value depends entirely on what the group is doing.

Mirdif and Al Qusais

Long cross-city journeys to IB campuses, so late sessions are common and shorter forty-five-minute slots deliver better value per dirham than a full hour with a tired student.

Dubai Hills Estate and Meydan

Households most likely to plan a two-year MYP 4 and 5 chemistry budget rather than buy reactively. They also tend to ask for the fortnightly maintenance option once a block has done its work.

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

Siblings on different curricula in the same house, so one household may pay IB rates for one child and IGCSE rates for another. Published rates differ by about AED 50 an hour between the two in this market.

Dubai South and The Sustainable City

Far from the older school clusters, where a visiting chemistry tutor is scarce at any price. Online removes the distance from the equation and the hourly figure stops depending on where you live.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai campuses where MYP chemistry separates at MYP 4

The split year is the budget event. Three science teachers, three rubrics and three deadlines appear together, and families who have not planned for it often buy three weekly slots and abandon two by half term. One specialist plus two diagnostic sessions is the cheaper shape and the one that survives.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the last marked chemistry task

A photograph of the last marked chemistry task, with the rubric or strand marks if the school publishes them, is worth more than any description of how the term has gone. We read it before the first session so the hour opens on the actual error pattern. It also lets you judge, cheaply, whether we read it at all.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, with the condition written down

One forty-five-minute online session at no charge. No card details are taken and there is nothing to cancel afterwards. The tutor teaches from the task you sent and finishes with a written note naming the error types and what a fixed-length block would target. You keep the note whether or not you book.

Settle the six billing terms in writing

Unit of charge, minimum booking, cancellation notice, what happens to prepaid sessions, whether the figure includes tax, and the trial condition. We will answer all six in writing before you pay anything, and we would encourage you to ask every provider you are comparing the same six questions.

  4. 04

Choose a scenario, not a subscription

Pick the lean, middle or intensive shape from the budget table and write down the hours and the review points. A plan with a known total is easier to sustain than an open-ended monthly commitment, and it makes the half-term decision about evidence rather than about inertia.

  5. 05

Review each half term against marked work

At half term we compare the error tally with the baseline and recommend continuing, reducing to fortnightly or stopping. Reducing is the most common recommendation after a successful quantitative block, and it halves the monthly figure. A tutor who never recommends fewer hours is not reading their own evidence.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates published with sources and dates

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages examined for this cluster publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in.

A plan with a known total

The budget table sets out three two-year shapes with hours, totals and assumptions visible, so the commitment is legible before it starts. Reactive buying in the final term costs a comparable amount and arrives when availability is worst and rates sit at the top of the published band.

We will recommend fewer hours

Where the error tally is dominated by mole conversion and titre averaging, the useful purchase is a fixed block of four to six sessions, not a year of weekly chemistry. We say so, and after a successful block we usually recommend halving to fortnightly maintenance rather than continuing weekly.

No examiner claims and no score claims

We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners, because individual examiner status is not something we can evidence, and it must never be used to imply access to marking or boundaries. We publish no statistic without the number of students, the dates and the method behind it, which rules out most of what this market advertises.

Online by design, with the travel premium removed

Published Dubai in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with the drive inside the fee. Teaching over live video removes that and the geographic shortlist behind it. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home teaching is a service we provide only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB MYP chemistry tutor in Dubai cost per session?+

At the qualified online tier in this market, roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a sixty-minute session, based on published rates read in October 2026. Below that, marketplace tiers advertise from AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, and above it premium named tutors publish up to AED 650. In-home visits run about AED 180 to AED 500 with travel inside the fee. For MYP 4 and 5 chemistry specifically, expect the qualified band rather than the entry tier, because the quantitative work needs a tutor who handles it fluently.

Why do chemistry tutors in Dubai quote more than biology tutors?+

Supply, not difficulty. A biology tutor needs secure content knowledge and good command-term discipline. A chemistry tutor needs both plus fluent quantitative handling, because a large share of MYP 4 and 5 chemistry marks sit behind mole arithmetic, concentration and titre processing. The pool is thinner in Dubai specifically, where IB programmes account for 7 per cent of private school enrolment and most chemistry tutors have taught Cambridge 0620 or CBSE chemistry far more often than they have marked a criterion C titration table.

What should a two-year MYP 4 and 5 chemistry plan cost in total?+

At published Dubai qualified rates of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, a lean plan of about thirty hours comes to roughly AED 4,500 to AED 9,000 across two years. A middle plan of about sixty hours runs AED 9,000 to AED 18,000, and an intensive plan of ninety hours runs higher. Reactive buying, two emergency blocks late in each year, often lands in the same range as the middle plan while delivering fewer useful hours, because availability at that point is poor and rates sit at the top of the band.

Is a tutor charging AED 650 an hour worth four times the standard rate?+

Only if what you are buying is genuinely scarce and the claim behind the price is evidenced. Premium rates in this market usually rest on examiner experience or a score record. Ask what evidence is offered for each. Current examiner status for an individual is hard to verify, and it should never imply access to mark schemes or grade boundaries. Any score claim needs the number of students, the years and the counting method. A better question is which criterion strands the tutor has marked, at which year group, because that has a checkable answer.

What hidden charges turn an hourly chemistry rate into a larger monthly bill?+

Six terms account for nearly all of it. Whether the price is per hour or per session, and what a session actually lasts. Whether a minimum booking applies, which is often two hours for in-home visits because of travel. What notice cancels without charge and whether a missed session is banked. What happens to prepaid sessions if you stop or the tutor becomes unavailable. Whether the figure quoted includes any tax, confirmed in writing. And what condition is attached to a free trial. Settle all six before paying anything.

Are group chemistry classes in Dubai good value at a lower rate per head?+

For shared content, yes. Group rates at MYP 4 and 5 run roughly AED 70 to AED 130 an hour per student, and tuition centres advertise monthly packages from about AED 799. That is good value for first teaching of the mole, balanced-equation arithmetic, command-term work and pre-test revision, provided every student is in the same MYP year. It is poor value the moment the work becomes one student's own criterion plan, one student's titration data or one student's marked script, none of which can be worked on in a group.

Should we prepay a block of chemistry sessions to get a discount?+

Only with the exit terms written down. A twenty-hour discount is attractive in September and awkward in February when the student no longer needs twenty hours, or when the tutor becomes unavailable. Before prepaying, establish whether unused sessions expire, whether credit transfers to a different tutor or a different subject, and what happens if you stop entirely. Our own preference is no prepayment, because a plan should be able to shorten when the marked work says the problem is fixed, and a prepaid block quietly discourages exactly that.

We have about AED 1,000 left before the chemistry assessment. How should we spend it?+

At the qualified band that is three to six hours, which is enough if it is targeted. Hour one diagnoses, working a past paper while the tutor counts error types. Hours two and three address the dominant quantitative error, usually mole conversion or titre averaging, because those recur on every paper. If criterion C forms part of the assessment, spend one hour on processing and conclusion structure. Keep the last hour for a timed paper reviewed immediately. Avoid new content in the final fortnight and avoid paying for travel.

Does a cheaper chemistry tutor in Dubai mean a less qualified one?+

Not reliably, but the cheapest tiers are explicitly priced for university students and generalists, and MYP 4 and 5 chemistry is where that shows. The budget band of AED 33 to AED 65 an hour is adequate for integrated sciences in MYP 1 to 3 and thin for quantitative chemistry two years later. The better test than price is two questions: which MYP chemistry criterion strands have you marked, and will you work from our school's task sheet and rubric. A confident, specific answer to both matters more than the number.

How do we compare an agency, a marketplace and a freelance chemistry tutor on cost?+

Compare what the rate contains rather than the rate. A marketplace rate excludes vetting. An agency rate includes coordination you may never use. A freelance in-home rate includes a car and usually a two-hour minimum. A tuition centre package includes a venue and a group. Then compare three things that decide real cost: what a mismatch costs you, whether a trial exists and on what condition, and what happens to money already paid if you stop. Those determine the bill far more than the headline figure does.

Is it cheaper to start chemistry support in MYP 4 or to wait for MYP 5?+

Starting in MYP 4 is almost always cheaper overall, for two reasons. The quantitative foundation, moles, reacting masses and concentration, only needs fixing once, and fixing it early means two years of chemistry built on it rather than one. And availability in MYP 5 concentrates into the same few weeks across every Dubai cohort, so the affordable slots vanish first and what remains sits at the top of the published band. Waiting usually means paying more per hour for more hours at a worse time.

Do tuition centres in Dubai work out cheaper than one-to-one chemistry tutoring?+

Per hour, yes, with advertised monthly packages from about AED 799 against AED 150 to AED 300 an hour individually. Whether it is cheaper per unit of progress depends on the match between the class and the student's actual gap. A centre class covering rates of reaction is worth little to a student whose problem is converting grams to moles. Ask what the class will cover week by week, how many students are in it and what year they are in, then compare that against the error pattern in your child's own marked work.

What does fixing the mole arithmetic cost compared with general chemistry revision?+

A fixed block of four to six sessions, so roughly AED 600 to AED 1,800 at published qualified rates, against an open-ended weekly arrangement that can run to several times that across a year. The block is better value for most students because the arithmetic is the single dependency behind reacting masses, concentration, titration processing and rate calculations. General revision spreads the same money across topics the student may already understand, which is why we ask for a marked task first and often recommend the shorter option.

Can we cut the cost by having fewer, longer chemistry sessions?+

Rarely, and it is the main reason in-home arrangements feel poor value. Attention in a chemistry session falls off sharply after about an hour, especially on quantitative work in the evening after a long Dubai school commute. Two forty-five-minute sessions a fortnight generally produce more than one two-hour session a month at the same cost. The exception is a timed past paper followed immediately by review, which genuinely needs a longer block and is worth scheduling at a weekend rather than on a school evening.

Decide the hours first, then ask the price

The reason chemistry tutoring in Dubai feels unpredictable is that families agree a rate before deciding what they are buying. Reverse the order. Send the last marked chemistry task, let the trial lesson produce an error tally, choose the lean, middle or intensive shape with its hours written down, and settle the six billing terms before paying anything. A plan with a known total and a half-term review point costs less and survives longer than an open monthly commitment. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and in-home visits are a service IB Gram offers only in India.
