IB MYP Biology Home Tutor in Dubai

Families comparing an IB MYP Biology home tutor in Dubai are really comparing two numbers: the hourly rate, and the hours that disappear into traffic between Mirdif and Dubai Marina. Published market rates put an in-home science hour in the city at roughly AED 180 to 500 and a qualified online hour at AED 150 to 300. This page sets out where those bands come from, what moves them, and why IB Gram delivers MYP Biology one-to-one over live video rather than by car.

  • Market AED bands published openly, attributed and dated
  • No travel surcharge, because nobody drives to the lesson
  • One free trial lesson per student, no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What a Dubai MYP Biology hour really costs

Pricing is the question almost every Dubai tutoring page avoids. Of the UAE providers reviewed for this site in October 2026, three published no figure at all, and two quoted in US dollars, a currency no family here transacts in. One agency's own frequently-asked-questions block asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer. So the first useful thing a page about an IB MYP Biology home tutor in Dubai can do is publish the bands, say where they came from, and be clear about which of them is a market figure rather than an IB Gram figure.

The ranges are wide for a reason. An hour of MYP Biology support is not one product. At the bottom of the market sits a university student working online from outside the Gulf, with published entry rates from around AED 33 to 65 an hour. In the middle sits a qualified subject teacher online, generally AED 150 to 300. Above that sit IB and IGCSE specialists at roughly AED 200 to 450, and a small premium tier quoting AED 500 to 650 for named or examiner-experienced tutors. In-home visits cut across those tiers and add travel: a rate survey of the Dubai market puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, while independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500.

The gap between the online and in-home band is not a quality gap. It is a logistics gap. A tutor who drives to a villa in Arabian Ranches for a 17:00 session has committed perhaps two and a half hours to deliver sixty minutes of teaching, and the rate has to carry the other ninety. That is defensible economics, and it is also why in-home tutoring tends to be bought in two-hour blocks: the travel only makes sense if the sitting is long. For a twelve-year-old working on one criterion strand of an MYP Sciences investigation, a two-hour sitting is not better teaching. It is just more of it.

There is a second cost nobody itemises, which is the narrowing of the pool. Inside a 20-minute drive of any Dubai community there may be a handful of tutors who can teach science to a secondary student. There are far fewer who have taught the MYP Sciences criteria, can read a criterion sheet, and know the difference between what criterion B wants and what criterion C wants. Buying by postcode means buying from whoever is near, and for a criterion-marked programme that is the wrong selection filter at any price.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Dubai address. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own marked work shared on screen. That removes the travel component from the price and replaces a geographic shortlist with a subject shortlist, which for MYP Biology is the part that actually changes the grade.

The rest of this page is the arithmetic. What the market charges by tier and format, what a term and a year come to at one and two sessions a week, how tutoring sits beside Dubai school fees now that KHDA has confirmed no fee increase for 2026-27, what the MoHRE permit does and does not add to your bill, and how to read a quote so that two Dubai providers can actually be compared.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost tracks the stage, not just the subject. A PYP science session and a Diploma Biology internal assessment block are priced differently everywhere in the Dubai market, and knowing why helps a family judge whether a quote is reasonable for the year their child is in.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Science arrives inside transdisciplinary units rather than as a named subject, and there is no criterion marking. Support at this stage is usually about reading, writing and confidence rather than scientific content, which is why it sits at the lower end of every published rate card in the city. Sessions tend to be shorter, 30 to 45 minutes, and the market prices accordingly.

Dubai families often start looking in Year 5 or 6, when the move to MYP Year 1 is visible. Paying specialist science rates at this point is rarely necessary. What is worth paying for is a tutor who will build the habit of writing what happened and whether the answer was convincing, because that habit is what MYP criterion B later formalises and marks.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years, four criteria per subject group, each marked out of eight. Sciences is usually integrated, with Biology inside it. Rates rise through the programme: MYP Years 1 to 3 generally price like general secondary support, while Years 4 and 5 attract specialist rates because the assessment load, the investigation write-ups and in some schools the on-screen eAssessment all arrive at once.

The Dubai market price for MYP support sits noticeably below Diploma support, which makes Years 3 and 4 the most cost-efficient point to intervene. A criterion weakness fixed at Year 4 costs a fraction of what the same weakness costs when it reappears inside a Diploma internal assessment two years later, at specialist exam-year rates.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

External papers plus one independently designed internal investigation. This is where the published Dubai rates peak: specialist IB tutoring is advertised in the AED 200 to 450 band and a premium tier quotes AED 500 to 650 an hour. Internal assessment support is frequently sold as a block of hours rather than weekly sessions, which is worth checking against a per-session alternative.

A rate survey of the Dubai market estimates monthly spend for weekly one-hour sessions at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward for specialist exam-year support. Across a two-year Diploma that is a real household figure, and it is the strongest financial argument for closing MYP criterion gaps early rather than paying Diploma rates to close them late.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A career-related study combined with a smaller set of Diploma courses, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Where a student keeps a Diploma science inside the CP, that course is priced like any Diploma course; the career-related components are usually supported by the school rather than by private tutors.

Only a small number of Dubai schools offer the CP, so the private tutoring market for it is thin and quotes vary more than for the Diploma. Families should confirm what is actually being taught before accepting a rate, and check the course list directly with the school's coordinator rather than relying on a tutoring provider's description.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every subject prices the same way in Dubai. The pattern across published rate cards is consistent: subjects with heavy marking between sessions and subjects with a thin local specialist pool cost more per hour than subjects with neither.

Sciences: Biology strand

MYP Years 1-5

Mid-band pricing at MYP level and specialist pricing from Year 4 upward. The cost driver is marking: an investigation report takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes to annotate properly against four criterion strands, and a quote that includes that work will look higher per hour than one that does not.

Sciences: Chemistry strand

MYP Years 1-5

Prices similarly to Biology in Dubai, with a slightly thinner MYP-specialist pool because many chemistry tutors in the market are oriented to IGCSE and A Level. Families often find the quoted rate rises faster between MYP Year 3 and Year 5 than it does for Biology.

Sciences: Physics strand

MYP Years 1-5

The thinnest specialist pool of the three strands at MYP level, and the one where in-home searching most often fails outright in a given community. Where a single Sciences grade is being reported, families sometimes pay for Biology support when the marks were actually lost in Physics.

Mathematics

MYP Years 1-5

The most competitive subject in the Dubai market and consequently the cheapest per hour at MYP level. It is also the subject most often bundled with Sciences, because criterion C data handling in Biology is a mathematics skill and one tutor can reasonably cover both.

Language and Literature

MYP Years 1-5

Priced above mathematics almost everywhere, because essay marking carries real hours between sessions. Relevant to a Biology budget: students who cannot sustain an argued paragraph lose criterion D marks in Sciences, and fixing that once benefits both subjects.

Language Acquisition

MYP Years 1-5, phases 1-6

Phase-dependent pricing, with higher phases nearer subject-specialist rates. For a Biology budget the point is targeted vocabulary work: a small number of sessions on technical word pairs often lifts a criterion A mark more cheaply than additional content teaching.

Individuals and Societies

MYP Years 1-5

Mid-band pricing with the same marking overhead as other written subjects. Criterion D in Sciences asks for balanced discussion of applications of science, which is a humanities skill, so students already supported here rarely need extra hours for it.

Design

MYP Years 1-5

A thin specialist pool in the Dubai private market and variable quotes as a result. The MYP Design cycle maps closely onto Sciences criteria B and C, so a student secure in one often needs fewer paid hours in the other.

Personal Project

MYP Year 5

Frequently sold as a block of supervision hours rather than weekly sessions. Worth scrutinising carefully: legitimate support is process coaching, planning and reflection, and any arrangement that implies the product will be produced for the student is both a waste of money and an academic-honesty risk.

Interdisciplinary units

MYP Years 1-5

Rarely priced separately, but worth raising when agreeing a rate, because an interdisciplinary task pairing Sciences with another subject group may need a tutor comfortable in both. Paying two tutors for one task is a common and avoidable cost.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats a Dubai family can actually buy for MYP Biology, with the cost logic of each. All IB Gram sessions in the UAE are delivered one-to-one over live video; the in-home column exists here because it is what the market sells and what you are comparing against.

One-to-one online, paid by the session

A single tutor, a shared screen, the student's own marked work, and a rate agreed per session rather than per term. The published market band for a qualified subject tutor online is AED 150 to 300 an hour, with IB specialists higher. Nothing in that figure is travel, so the whole of it buys teaching and marking.

  • No travel component in the rate and no minimum sitting length
  • Marking of between-session work agreed explicitly, not assumed
  • Session length matched to attention span, typically 50 to 60 minutes at MYP level
  • Stop or pause without forfeiting a prepaid block

Short diagnostic block before committing

Two or three sessions bought up front to establish what is actually wrong, before any longer commitment. For an integrated Sciences grade this is the cheapest insurance available in the Dubai market: it prevents a term of Biology hours being spent on a weakness that was really in Physics or in data handling.

  • Session one reads the criterion sheets and names the strand costing marks
  • Session two tests the diagnosis against a fresh piece of work
  • Session three sets the plan, or recommends a different subject entirely
  • Ends with a written summary you can take to the school

Exam-season intensive, costed before it starts

A defined number of sessions in the weeks before a major assessed task or an on-screen examination window, agreed as a total rather than an open-ended arrangement. Dubai rate surveys show specialist exam-year monthly spend running from AED 1,000 upward, so the discipline of a fixed scope matters more here than anywhere else.

  • Total hours and total cost agreed in writing before session one
  • Scope limited to named criteria and named units
  • Marking turnaround stated, so the last task comes back before the assessment
  • No automatic rollover once the window has passed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the Dubai market charges, by provider model

  • Five tiers, separated by who teaches rather than by subject
  • Figures are market rates compiled October 2026, not IB Gram prices
  • A sub-AED 100 MYP Sciences quote is usually a non-specialist hour
  • Examiner claims should be specific about board and year, or discounted

The published rates for private tutoring in Dubai separate into five reasonably stable tiers, and they separate by who is teaching rather than by what is being taught. At the bottom are platforms using university students and non-specialist graduates, advertising entry rates from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour online. Above that sits the qualified subject teacher working online, generally AED 150 to 300. In-home one-to-one occupies AED 180 to 500 depending on the tutor and the distance. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists are advertised at AED 200 to 450 and above. A small premium tier quotes AED 500 to 650 for named or examiner-experienced tutors.

These are market figures compiled in October 2026 from UAE provider pages and from a published Dubai tutoring rate survey. They are not IB Gram's prices, and no honest page should present a market band as its own rate card. What they are useful for is calibration. A quote of AED 90 an hour for MYP Sciences is not a bargain specialist; it is almost certainly a non-specialist, and for criterion-marked work that distinction decides whether the hour achieves anything. A quote of AED 600 is not necessarily wrong either, but it should come with something specific attached that explains it.

The honest caution attached to the premium tier is worth stating. Examiner status is frequently advertised and rarely evidenced, and no tutor's examiner experience gives anyone access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content. If a provider's price rests on that claim, ask what exactly is being claimed and for which board and year. A page that quotes a rate and declines to say what it buys is the pattern this market is full of, which is precisely why the table below separates the model from the number.

Why an in-home hour prices above the same hour online

The difference between the in-home band and the online band is not teaching quality. It is time nobody is teaching. A tutor booked for 17:00 in a villa community twenty-five minutes from their own home, in Dubai traffic, at the end of the school run, is realistically committing two to two and a half hours. They can take one such booking that evening, perhaps two if the second is in the same community. An online tutor can take three consecutive sessions in the same window and still have the evening. The rate reflects the arithmetic.

That has a knock-on effect families notice too late: the in-home market pushes towards long sittings. If the travel is fixed, the only way to make it efficient is to stay longer, which is why monthly in-home packages in Dubai commonly appear as four two-hour visits at AED 1,599 to 1,799, against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. For a Diploma student working through an extended investigation, two hours can be productive. For a thirteen-year-old rewriting one method statement until the variables are properly controlled, the second hour is usually spent on diminishing returns.

The third effect is the one that actually matters for a criterion-marked programme. Geography is a selection filter, and it is the wrong one. Within a short drive of a given Dubai community there may be several capable science tutors and very few who have taught MYP Sciences, can read criterion descriptors, and know why criterion C evaluations fail. Online delivery replaces the map with a subject list. A family in Jumeirah Village Circle gets the same shortlist as one in Emirates Hills, which is not true of any in-home arrangement in the city at any price.

So the position on this page is plain. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service exists only in India. We are not pretending the in-home market has no advantages, and for some families and some subjects it does. For MYP Biology specifically, where the marks turn on investigation design, data handling and written evaluation, a screen-shared document and a specialist is a better hour than a generalist in the room.

The monthly and yearly arithmetic for an MYP Biology plan

  • Published monthly estimates: AED 240-600 budget, 600-1,200 mid, 1,000-2,000+ specialist exam year
  • A realistic MYP Biology plan is 12-14 sessions a term, 36-40 a year
  • Early intervention at MYP rates costs less than late intervention at Diploma rates
  • Ask what happens to unused sessions before buying any block

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for a household budget. What a family actually commits to is a pattern across a term or a year, and the published Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run from roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the mid range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those figures assume four or five sessions a month and no marking charged separately.

For MYP Biology the pattern that works is usually modest: one session a week through a term, with one small written task marked in between. That is around 12 to 14 sessions a term and 36 to 40 across an academic year, allowing for school holidays. At a mid-band specialist rate that is a real but predictable number, and it compares favourably with the intensive blocks families often buy in a panic in Year 5 or in the first Diploma term, which arrive at specialist exam-season rates and compress the same learning into fewer, more expensive weeks.

The cheapest version of this plan is the early one. A criterion B weakness in MYP Year 3 takes a handful of sessions at MYP rates. The same weakness, unaddressed, reappears as a struggling Diploma internal assessment in Year 12, where the published Dubai specialist band is AED 200 to 450 an hour and the work is urgent. Families who treat MYP Years 3 and 4 as the intervention window rather than the waiting room spend materially less over six years, which is the only honest financial argument for starting now rather than later.

One structural point about how to pay. A package bought up front is only a saving if every session in it is used, and MYP families lose sessions to school trips, exam weeks, travel and illness more often than they expect. Per-session payment with an agreed rate removes that risk. If a provider offers a discount for a block, the question to ask is what happens to unused sessions and whether the rate still applies if you pause for six weeks.

What moves the number in Dubai specifically

  • Distance is the biggest in-home cost driver and is absent online
  • The 17:00 slot is the most expensive hour of the Dubai week
  • Ramadan scheduling moves sessions post-Iftar; flexibility should cost nothing
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27

Five local factors push a Dubai tutoring quote up or down, and none of them is the subject. The first is distance, which applies only to in-home arrangements and can be the largest single component of the rate. A tutor based in Deira quoting for a villa in Dubai Hills is pricing an hour of driving into every lesson, and the honest ones say so. Online delivery removes this entirely, which is why the same tutor's online rate is often meaningfully lower than their in-home rate for identical teaching.

The second is the time slot. Every household in a Dubai community wants 17:00, after the school run and before dinner. That slot is scarce, and scarcity shows up in price and in availability. Families willing to take 19:30 or a Saturday morning consistently report both better rates and better tutors, because they are choosing from the part of the week that is not oversubscribed. For an MYP student, a later slot is often better teaching anyway, once the day has finished rather than in the gap between activities.

The third is the season. Demand concentrates in the weeks before major assessments and before the May examination period that UAE schools sit, and rates firm up accordingly. The fourth is Ramadan, which reshapes the school day and moves sessions to post-Iftar timing; providers who cannot flex to that effectively lose a month, and some price the inconvenience. The fifth is school fee context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. With fees held flat, the tutoring line in a household budget has become more visible rather than less.

A sixth factor is supply, and it is the one families discover last. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 places, after enrolment rose six per cent during 2025-26. More IB students means more competition for the same MYP specialist hours. That pressure is felt most acutely by families buying in-home, because their pool is bounded by a map, and least by families buying online, whose pool is bounded by subject.

05

The MoHRE permit: free to hold, worth asking about

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine amounts are published, so no provider should quote one
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled student is an arrangement to avoid
  • IB Gram holds no regulator approval and has no UAE office or centre

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Official UAE government guidance states the permit is granted free of charge for two years, and that eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow for a Dubai family comparing quotes. First, no part of a legitimate rate is the cost of the permit, because there is no cost. Any provider explaining a premium by reference to licensing fees is describing something that does not exist. Second, the permit is a reasonable thing to ask about, and a tutor who holds one can say so plainly. Official guidance also states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted by anyone, including us.

There is a related boundary that affects who you should be hiring. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct has been reported as barring the same arrangement. Families sometimes ask whether their child's own class teacher can tutor them privately. The arrangement is one to avoid, and any provider marketing it is pointing you somewhere you should not go.

Finally, a distinction worth knowing because it is routinely blurred in this market. An individual tutor holding a MoHRE permit is a different legal entity from a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai, which requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, no ADEK approval and no regulator accreditation of any kind, and has no office, centre or branch in the UAE. We describe what the regulators do because it is useful; we do not claim their endorsement, and neither should anyone quoting you a rate.

06

Reading a Dubai tutoring quote line by line

  • Per 60 minutes or per lesson, and how long is a lesson?
  • Is marking between sessions inside the rate or billed separately?
  • Is the quoted AED figure the figure you pay, tax included?
  • Who teaches it, what are their MYP credentials, and what if the match is wrong?

Two quotes for MYP Biology can differ by AED 150 an hour and describe entirely different products, which is why comparing headline rates alone is close to useless. Six questions turn a number into something comparable. Is the rate per 60 minutes or per lesson, and how long is a lesson? Many Dubai providers quote per session and run 45 or 50 minutes, which changes the effective hourly figure materially.

Second: does the rate include marking between sessions? For MYP Sciences this is the single biggest hidden variable. Annotating an investigation report against four criterion strands takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes. A rate that includes it is not comparable to one that does not, and for criterion-marked work the marking is where much of the value sits. Third: what happens if you cancel, and how much notice is required? Fourth: is value-added tax included in the figure quoted? Do not accept a general statement about how tuition is treated for tax; ask only whether the specific number you have been given is the number you will pay.

Fifth: who exactly will teach the lesson? A quote from an agency is a quote for an unnamed tutor unless you ask. For MYP Sciences the relevant question is not whether they have a degree in biology but whether they have taught the MYP criteria and can read a criterion sheet. Ask directly, and ask for an example of a criterion strand they would target in your child's marked work. Sixth: what happens if the match is wrong? A provider with a replacement policy will say so without hesitation.

One last line to look for, and it is usually absent: what the provider will do if nobody suitable is available. The UAE tutoring market conceals coverage limits routinely. Our answer is that if no MYP Sciences specialist with Biology as a main strand has a workable slot in Gulf Standard Time, we will say so and give a realistic date, rather than placing a generalist and describing them as a specialist. A free trial lesson, one per student with no card details taken, exists so that this judgement is yours rather than ours.

07

What an MYP Biology hour should actually buy

  • Marked work read before the lesson, not inside the paid hour
  • One named criterion and strand per session, stated at the start
  • One small task set and marked between sessions, every time
  • An honest recommendation to stop, or to switch subject, when the evidence says so

Price only means something next to what is delivered, so here is what the hour should contain for MYP Biology at any rate in the Dubai band. It should begin with the student's own marked work, read by the tutor before the lesson rather than during it. Preparation time that happens inside the paid hour is time you are paying twice for: once as teaching and once as reading.

It should name a target. MYP Sciences is marked on four criteria out of eight each, and a session that is about Biology in general is a session that cannot be evaluated. A session about criterion C, specifically the evaluation strand, specifically on the last investigation, is one you can judge by looking at the next piece of work. That is what makes the spend measurable rather than hopeful.

It should leave something behind. One small written task, set and then marked before the following session, is the mechanism that turns a sequence of hours into movement on a criterion total. Without it each lesson restarts. With it, a family accumulates a parallel record of criterion marks and can see progress months before a report card arrives, which is also how you decide whether to keep paying.

And it should end honestly. If three sessions of criterion work show that the real weakness is in mathematics, in written English, or in Physics rather than Biology, the right outcome is to say so and change the plan, even though that means fewer Biology hours sold. Support that is no longer needed should stop. A provider that cannot imagine recommending less of itself is a provider whose advice about how much you should spend is worth very little.

Where the money is best spent across five MYP years

  • MYP Years 1-2: reading and writing at home beats paid science hours
  • MYP Year 3: four to six sessions on method writing is the best-value window
  • MYP Year 4: buy the diagnosis before buying a term of sessions
  • MYP Year 5: the most expensive year to need help, so plan not to

If a family had a fixed tutoring budget to spread across MYP Years 1 to 5, the efficient allocation is not even. Years 1 and 2 rarely need paid science support at all; what helps most at that stage is reading volume and the habit of writing a full sentence, both of which happen at home for nothing. Spending here is usually spending early for reassurance rather than for effect.

Year 3 is the first genuinely high-value window. Criterion expectations step up, investigation write-ups start carrying real weight, and most students have had no explicit teaching of what criterion B wants. A small number of sessions here, four to six, spent entirely on method writing and data handling, pays for itself twice: once in the Year 3 and 4 grades, and again in the Diploma, where the same skills are examined under stricter conditions at higher rates.

Year 4 is the second window, and in many Dubai schools it is where integrated Sciences splits into separate strands and the reported grade suddenly has nowhere to hide. This is the point at which a diagnostic block is worth buying before a term of weekly sessions, because the newly separated grades tell you which strand to fund. Families who skip the diagnosis frequently spend a term on Biology when the criterion marks were falling in Physics.

Year 5 is the most expensive year to need help in, because the Personal Project, any eAssessment preparation and the Diploma subject choice all land together and the market prices urgency. Budget for it, but aim not to spend it. A student who arrives in Year 5 with secure criterion B and C skills needs supervision and structure rather than remediation, which is a cheaper product. That sequencing, modest spend early and planned restraint late, is the single most cost-effective pattern we see across Dubai MYP families.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

On an in-home arrangement, your community decides your price. The distance between a tutor's base and your door sets the travel they have to recover, which is why the same hour quotes differently across Dubai. Online delivery removes that variable entirely, so these notes describe the market rather than our rates.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence

Dense, central and well supplied with tutors, so in-home quotes here tend to sit mid-band rather than high. The cost is in parking and building access rather than in distance, and evening sessions are commonly quoted as 90 minutes because a 60-minute visit is uneconomic for the tutor.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Villa communities where internal distances are significant and the drive from central Dubai at 16:30 is unpredictable. In-home rates here sit at the upper end of the published band, and two-hour sittings are the norm because the travel cannot be recovered across a single hour.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

A long cross-city drive from the main tutor concentrations in New Dubai, which shows directly in quoted rates. Families here report the widest spread between the first and the fifth quote they collect, which usually reflects where each tutor happens to live rather than what they teach.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Dubai Sports City

Growing fast, with newer schools and a thinner local specialist pool. The practical result is that an MYP Sciences specialist is often simply not available in-home at any rate, and families either accept a generalist or move to online delivery.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Central to several international schools and therefore well supplied, with competitive in-home pricing at the lower end of the band. The constraint here is timing rather than cost: the same popular 17:00 slot is being chased by a large number of households in a small area.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short school runs and early availability, which supports 16:00 starts and therefore shorter, cheaper sittings. Quotes here cluster tightly, and families comparing three providers often find less than AED 50 an hour between them for the same brief.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

High-rise living with limited quiet study space, so some of what an in-home visit is buying is simply a room. Rates are mid-band, but families frequently pay for a two-hour visit and lose part of it to interruptions that an online session scheduled at 20:00 avoids.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several campuses, which widens the supply of student tutors at entry-level rates. That makes the bottom of the market genuinely cheap here, and makes it more important to establish whether a tutor has actually taught the MYP criteria before rather than only studied the subject.

Emirates Hills, Meadows and Springs

Established IB catchment with experienced in-home tutors and quotes at the top of the published range. Families here are often paying specialist rates already, and the useful question becomes whether the specialism is MYP criterion marking or simply long experience of science teaching.

Dubai IB schools where MYP Sciences is reported as one grade

Fee bands at these schools differ widely, and KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27 under Dubai's second economic incentives package. That freeze is the right backdrop for any tutoring budget conversation this year.

KHDA has said Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose six per cent. More IB places means more MYP families and more demand for the same specialist hours.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the year, the school and the last three marks

Before any rate conversation, we need your child's MYP year, their school, and the criterion marks from the last two or three assessed Sciences tasks. That determines whether you need MYP-level support or specialist Year 5 work, which is the main thing separating one band from another.

  2. 02

Get the rate in writing, per session, before booking

You receive the session length in minutes, the rate per session, whether marking between sessions is included, the cancellation notice period, and the named tutor. Nothing is quoted as from, and nothing is conditional on buying a block. If a figure changes later, it changes only with your agreement.

  3. 03

Take the free trial before paying anything

One free trial lesson per student, with the tutor who would continue, no card details taken and no obligation. It is a working session: the tutor reads the marked work first, teaches one criterion strand, and sets a small task. You judge the teaching before any money moves.

  4. 04

Agree the scope and the review point

A named target criterion, a number of sessions, and a date at which you will decide whether to continue. Open-ended arrangements are how tutoring budgets drift. A scope with an end date makes the spend reviewable and gives both sides something to be judged against.

  5. 05

Pay as you go, pause when school does

Sessions are paid individually rather than as a term block, so school trips, examination weeks and family travel cost nothing. There is no rollover and no expiring credit. If you pause for six weeks and return, the rate you agreed still applies unless we tell you otherwise in advance.

  6. 06

Review on the criterion record, not on a feeling

At the review point we look at the marks on the work set between sessions. If the criterion strand has moved, the plan continues or reduces. If it has not, we change tutor, change approach, or tell you the problem sits in another subject and stop charging for Biology hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The travel component is not in the price

Market in-home rates in Dubai carry 30 to 150 minutes of driving inside the hourly figure. Online delivery removes that line entirely, so what you pay buys teaching and marking rather than fuel and Sheikh Zayed Road at 16:45.

Market rates published, sourced and dated

Every AED band on this page is attributed to published provider pages or a named Dubai rate survey, compiled in October 2026, and is identified as market rather than ours. Three of the UAE providers reviewed for this page publish no price at all.

Per-session pricing, so an unused block cannot be lost

MYP families lose sessions to trips, assessment weeks and travel. Paying by the session means a quiet month costs nothing, and pausing does not forfeit credit. No term-length commitment is required before the first paid lesson.

A subject pool rather than a postcode pool

Because nobody travels, the shortlist is built from tutors who have taught MYP Sciences and can read criterion descriptors. A family in Jumeirah Village Circle gets the same choice as one in Emirates Hills, which in-home arrangements in Dubai cannot offer at any rate.

Marking stated explicitly, not assumed

Annotating an investigation report against four criterion strands is 30 to 45 minutes of work. Whether it is inside your rate is written down before you book, because it is the largest hidden variable between two otherwise similar Dubai quotes.

Coverage limits disclosed rather than hidden

If no MYP Sciences specialist with Biology as a main strand has a workable Gulf Standard Time slot, we say so and give a date. The alternative, placing a generalist and describing them as a specialist, is common in this market and is not something we do.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an MYP Biology home tutor charge per hour in Dubai?+

Published market rates for in-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai run from about AED 180 to 500 an hour, with a Dubai rate survey placing most in-home work at AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. For MYP Sciences specifically, expect the upper half of that range from anyone who has actually taught the criteria. Online, a qualified subject teacher sits at roughly AED 150 to 300 and an IB specialist at AED 200 to 450. Those figures were compiled in October 2026 from published provider pages and are market rates rather than IB Gram's. The gap between the in-home and online bands is travel, not teaching.

Why is an in-home MYP Biology visit priced above the same lesson online?+

Because the tutor is paid for the hour and spends two and a half. A 17:00 booking in a villa community twenty-five minutes away, in school-run traffic, consumes the whole evening for one or two lessons. Online, the same tutor can teach three consecutive sessions in that window. The rate carries the difference. It also pushes the market towards long sittings, which is why in-home monthly packages in Dubai commonly appear as four two-hour visits around AED 1,599 to 1,799, against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. For a thirteen-year-old rewriting one method statement, the second hour is rarely the productive one.

How much of a Dubai home tutor fee is really travel time?+

Nobody itemises it, but the arithmetic is not hard. If a tutor's online rate is AED 220 and their in-home rate for the same lesson is AED 350, the difference is the travel, the fuel and the lost booking slot. Across Dubai the spread between a tutor's own two rates is commonly AED 80 to 200 an hour depending on the distance to your community, which is why the same brief quotes differently in Mirdif and in Al Barsha. The useful test is to ask one tutor for both rates. A tutor who quotes an identical figure for both formats has either absorbed the travel or is pricing the online lesson above what it costs them to deliver.

What does a term of weekly MYP Biology support cost in AED?+

A realistic pattern is 12 to 14 sessions in a term, one a week with one small marked task in between. Published Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions put monthly spend at roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. For MYP Sciences the mid-range is the honest planning figure, which puts a term in the low thousands of dirhams at market rates. Buying per session rather than per term protects that budget, because MYP families lose more sessions to trips and assessment weeks than they expect.

Does the MYP Biology rate change in the run-up to on-screen examinations?+

In the Dubai market, yes. Demand concentrates in the weeks before major assessed tasks and before the May examination period UAE schools sit, and rates firm up with it. Specialist exam-season monthly estimates published for Dubai start around AED 1,000 and run upward. The practical consequence is that the cheapest way to buy examination-season support is not to need much of it: a criterion B or C weakness addressed in MYP Year 3 or 4 at ordinary rates costs a fraction of the same weakness addressed urgently in Year 5. Our own rate is agreed per session in advance and does not move because the calendar did.

Is a small group cheaper than one-to-one for MYP Biology in Dubai?+

Per student, yes, and tuition centres in the city price group classes well below one-to-one. Whether it is cheaper in any useful sense depends on the problem. Group teaching works when a cohort shares a content gap, for example a whole class that has not met gas exchange. It works poorly for criterion-specific weaknesses, because criterion C evaluation marks are lost in individual ways and the fix is annotation of that student's own script. Families often buy a term of group classes, see no movement in the criterion marks, and then buy one-to-one anyway, which is the most expensive route of all.

Do private tutors in Dubai pay for the MoHRE permit, and does that reach my bill?+

No, on both counts. The private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge and is valid for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. So no part of a legitimate Dubai tutoring rate is licensing cost, and any provider explaining a premium that way is describing something that does not exist. Official guidance does state that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, but no schedule of amounts is published, so no figure should be quoted by anyone.

How should I compare two MYP Biology quotes in AED?+

Convert both to the same unit, then ask what is inside it. Is the rate per 60 minutes or per lesson, and how long is a lesson, since many Dubai providers run 45 or 50 minutes. Does it include marking between sessions, which for an investigation report is 30 to 45 minutes of a tutor's time. Is the figure tax inclusive. What notice is required to cancel. Who specifically teaches it, and have they taught the MYP criteria rather than simply studied biology. What happens if the match is wrong. Two quotes AED 150 apart frequently describe different products once those six answers are in.

What is an MYP Biology lesson priced per 60 minutes against per 90 minutes?+

Longer sittings usually carry a lower effective hourly rate, which looks like value and often is not at MYP age. A 90-minute session is priced at roughly one and a half times the hourly figure, sometimes slightly less. The question is whether the second half is productive. For an eleven to fourteen-year-old working on one criterion strand, attention typically holds for 50 to 60 minutes of active rewriting. The in-home market favours 90 or 120 minutes because the travel has to be recovered. Online, there is no reason to buy length you cannot use, and two shorter sessions in a week outperform one long one in most MYP cases.

Does the quoted AED figure include marking between MYP Biology sessions?+

Ask, because it is the largest hidden variable in this market. Annotating a laboratory investigation properly against four criterion strands takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes, and a rate that includes that work is simply not comparable to one that does not. For criterion-marked programmes much of the value sits in the annotation rather than in the live hour, because that is where the student sees exactly which strand they missed. Our rates state explicitly whether marking is included before you book, and the task set between sessions is deliberately small so that it comes back and gets marked rather than becoming homework nobody completes.

How does MYP Biology tutoring sit next to Dubai school fees?+

It has become more visible this year, because KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. With fees flat, a tutoring line is one of the few education costs in a Dubai household that still moves. Set against annual fees at an IB school, a weekly MYP session at mid-band market rates is a modest addition, but it is a recurring one. That is the argument for scoping support to a named criterion with a review date rather than running it indefinitely because it feels responsible.

What hidden extras appear on a Dubai tutoring invoice?+

Five recur. Registration or matching fees charged before any teaching happens. Materials or platform charges added monthly. Marking billed separately from the lesson. Cancellation charges with a notice period longer than families expect, sometimes 48 hours. And rate escalation on renewal, where an introductory figure rises once a term is underway. None of these is improper if disclosed up front, and all of them are reasons to get the full structure in writing before the first session rather than only the headline rate. Ask specifically what you would be charged in a month when your child attends three sessions instead of four.

Is it cheaper to start MYP Biology support in Year 3 or wait for Year 5?+

Materially cheaper to start in Year 3, and this is the clearest financial pattern in the Dubai MYP market. At Year 3 the work is four to six sessions teaching what criterion B actually wants, at ordinary MYP rates, before bad habits set. Left alone, the same weakness reappears in Year 5 alongside the Personal Project and Diploma subject choice, when the market prices urgency, and again in Year 12 inside a Diploma internal assessment where published Dubai specialist rates run AED 200 to 450 an hour. Spending early and planning not to spend late is the efficient sequence, not the cautious one.

Can we pay for MYP Biology sessions one at a time rather than a package?+

Yes, and for MYP families it is usually the better structure. Sessions are agreed and paid individually, with the rate fixed in advance, so a half-term disrupted by a school trip, an assessment week or family travel costs nothing. There is no expiring credit and no rollover to track. Packages are only a saving if every session is used, and in practice MYP schedules are interrupted more often than Diploma ones. If a provider offers a block discount, ask what happens to unused sessions and whether the agreed rate survives a six-week pause before deciding it is cheaper.

What happens to the price if no Dubai-based MYP Biology specialist is free?+

Nothing happens to the price, because we do not fill the gap with a different product and charge you for it. If no MYP Sciences specialist with Biology as a main strand has a workable slot in Gulf Standard Time, we say so and give a realistic date rather than placing a generalist and calling the match a specialist one. Where a suitable tutor is based outside the UAE, that is stated plainly along with the time zone the sessions would run in. The UAE tutoring market routinely conceals coverage limits behind an overseas contact number, and disclosure costs nothing to give.

Does a free trial lesson mean the first MYP Biology session costs nothing?+

Yes, with the conditions stated here rather than in a footnote. One free trial lesson per student, taught by the tutor who would continue, with no card details taken and no obligation to book anything afterwards. It is a full working session: the tutor reads your child's marked work beforehand, teaches one criterion strand, and sets a small task. If the match is wrong, say so and a different tutor is proposed at no charge. Nothing is invoiced until you agree a rate and a session in writing, and the rate quoted is the rate charged.
