IB DP Psychology Online Tutor in Dubai

Hiring an IB DP Psychology online tutor in Dubai is a spending decision, and this page treats it as one. Lessons for Dubai families run over live video, one student at a time, in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses, and home visits exist only in our India service. Below are the published AED bands with the source behind each, and a component-by-component account of which marks an hour of tuition can actually recover and which it cannot.

  • Every AED band here names the provider or survey that published it
  • Hours spent against component weightings, not spread evenly across the course
  • Short-answer technique drilled first, because those marks are the cheapest
  • Live-video sessions in Gulf Standard Time, no travel priced into the hour

Buy the marks that are recoverable, not the hours that are available

Psychology is the Diploma subject where tutoring money is most often spent in the wrong place. The subject looks like content: three approaches to behaviour, a set of options, a long list of studies. So families buy content hours, and a tutor re-explains the biological approach to a student who could already have written it out. Meanwhile the marks are going missing in two specific, trainable, technique-shaped places, and those are where an hour of one-to-one teaching has the highest return per dirham spent.

The first place is the short-answer section of the first written paper. Three questions, one on each approach, each worth nine marks, each rewarding a precise shape of answer: the concept named accurately, the research evidence stated with enough detail to be credible, and the link to the question made explicitly rather than left implied. Students lose two or three marks per question for structural reasons, which across three questions is a substantial share of the paper. This is the cheapest improvement in the entire subject and it is reliably achievable in a handful of marked sessions.

The second place is the extended response, where a single essay carries twenty-two marks and the criteria reward critical thinking as much as knowledge. Students who have memorised four studies and describe all four score in the middle bands; students who use two studies and interrogate their methodology, generalisability and alternative explanations score above them. This is harder to teach and takes longer, so it is the expensive purchase, and a family should know that before they commit to a term's hours.

The rest of the spending question is about choices the school has already made. Which option the class studies changes the content load, the availability of good studies and therefore the hours needed. Whether the student is at Standard or Higher Level changes the component weightings and adds a paper that rewards research-methods fluency rather than content recall. And the internally assessed experimental report has its own cost profile, dominated by decisions made at the planning stage rather than by writing time.

Everything numerical on this page carries a source. The AED bands come from named competitor price pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate survey. The regulatory and equivalency material comes from u.ae, KHDA, MoHRE and a sourced report of the Ministry's equivalency requirements. Where a figure could not be verified, including every IB examination and results date, this page says so instead of guessing. Read the weighting table first; it is the one that tells you where the money should go.

One more thing about the spending order, because it is the part families get wrong most often. The cheap work is front-loaded and the expensive work is late, which means a budget spent evenly across two years buys less than the same budget spent deliberately. A short block on short-answer structure in the first term of DP1, a compact study bank built rather than accumulated, and one session testing the experimental design before any data is collected are all inexpensive and all remove work that would otherwise be bought at crisis prices in the final term. Specialist availability tightens as the examination series approaches and rates firm up rather than soften, so the family that plans in October is choosing from a wider pool at a lower point in the band than the family that plans in February.

At a glance

  • Short-answer technique: three questions at nine marks each, the cheapest recoverable marks
  • Extended response: twenty-two marks, rewarding critical evaluation over study count
  • Higher Level adds a research-methods paper built on a stimulus piece of research
  • Published Dubai bands: AED 150-300 for a qualified online tutor, AED 200-450+ for a specialist
  • Delivery to UAE families is live video only, so no travel sits inside the rate
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology has no direct pre-Diploma equivalent in most Dubai schools, which is unusual and has a cost implication: nearly every student starts from zero in DP1, and the hours that matter most are the early ones spent establishing how the subject is written rather than what it contains.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

MYP Individuals and Societies and MYP Sciences between them supply the two habits Diploma Psychology needs: constructing an argument from evidence, and designing and evaluating an investigation. Neither supplies the subject content, so an MYP student arrives in DP1 with transferable method and no psychology. That is a cheaper starting position than it sounds.

Dubai's continuum schools move students from MYP 5 into DP1 directly, and Psychology is frequently chosen there as a new subject. The early spend that pays is on answer structure, because the content arrives on schedule from the class teacher and the structure does not.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Coming to Psychology from IGCSE sciences

Most Dubai students entering Diploma Psychology come from IGCSE Biology and IGCSE English rather than from any psychology course. Biology supplies useful grounding for the biological approach and for research methods; the IGCSE habit of short factual answers works against the extended response, where description without evaluation caps the mark.

British-curriculum schools carry the largest share of Dubai's private enrolment, so this is the commonest entry route in the emirate. For this group the predictable first purchase is extended-response structure, and it is predictable enough to plan and budget for in the first term of DP1.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Psychology

Built on three core approaches to behaviour, biological, cognitive and sociocultural, plus options such as abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and human relationships. Standard Level studies one option and Higher Level two, with additional extension content in each approach and a separate research-methods paper. An experimental report is assessed internally.

Psychology is one of the larger group three cohorts in Dubai's IB schools, so classes are often sizeable and individual marking of extended responses is scarce. That scarcity is precisely what one-to-one hours should be bought to supply, rather than content that the class already covers.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme combines Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, personal and professional skills, service learning and language development. Psychology appears in health and social care oriented pathways, and the assessment demand for that single Diploma course, experimental report included, is identical to the full Diploma version.

CP runs in a minority of Dubai schools, so a CP student taking Psychology may have a very small class or none. The budget consequence is that work a cohort would otherwise do collectively, particularly collecting experimental data, has to be planned deliberately instead.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below notes what each neighbouring subject assesses and how much marking it generates, because marking volume is the honest driver of a tutoring bill across a two-subject arrangement.

Psychology

SL and HL

Three approaches to behaviour plus options, assessed through short-answer questions, extended-response essays and an internally assessed experimental report. Higher Level adds extension content and a research-methods paper. Marks are lost to answer structure and to description without evaluation far more than to missing content.

Biology

SL and HL

Written papers plus a scientific investigation. Overlaps Psychology directly on the biological approach, neurotransmission and hormones, and shares its statistics vocabulary. Students taking both frequently need the two internal deadlines mapped early, because they land in the same DP2 term.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Carries the descriptive and inferential statistics that the Psychology experimental report and research-methods questions assume: measures of central tendency, dispersion, correlation and significance. Weak statistics here shows up as lost marks in Psychology rather than in mathematics.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

Algebra and calculus focused, and the route many psychology and neuroscience degrees prefer at entry. Worth reading against target university requirements before subject choices close, since the mathematics route is more often the admissions blocker than the group three subject is.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Guided analysis, comparative essay and oral components. The transferable asset for Psychology is timed essay construction under pressure, which is exactly what a twenty-two mark extended response requires and what most students have never practised against a clock.

Global Politics

SL and HL

Engagement activity and oral components alongside written papers, built on contested concepts. Shares with Psychology the demand to weigh competing explanations rather than report one, so improvement in one subject tends to show up in the other.

Economics

SL and HL

Extended response and data response papers plus short written commentaries. A frequent companion subject in Dubai; the shared discipline is evaluating evidence against stated criteria rather than describing it fluently.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL and HL

Written papers plus an investigation, overlapping Psychology on health behaviour and physiological measurement. Where a school offers both, students often take one as a lighter companion to the other, and the research-methods work transfers in both directions.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

Interdisciplinary, assessed through written papers and an investigation. Shares Psychology's demand for evaluating methodology and competing explanations, and its investigation has a similar planning-heavy cost profile.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three booking shapes, priced by the marking they generate rather than by contact time alone. All are delivered over live video to UAE families.

Short-answer technique block

The cheapest useful purchase in Psychology. A short run of sessions on the nine-mark question: naming the concept precisely, supplying research evidence in enough detail to be credible, and making the link to the question explicit. Each session returns marked attempts, and the gain shows up across three questions on the paper rather than one.

  • Three attempts per session, each marked against the published criteria
  • One question drilled per approach, so coverage is deliberate
  • Evidence detail calibrated: enough to be credible, not a full study write-up
  • Timing practised, because this section is where students overrun

Extended-response coaching across a term

The expensive purchase, and often the necessary one. Weekly twenty-two mark essays written under timing, marked against the criteria, and reviewed with the critical-thinking strand separated from the knowledge strand. Improvement here is slower than in short answers and worth more, because the same skill carries into the option paper.

  • Two studies used well rather than four described
  • Methodology, generalisability and alternative explanations drilled as evaluation routes
  • Mark allocation written beside each paragraph on the returned script
  • Essay plans built to a repeatable structure that survives exam pressure

Experimental report supervision block

A costed block covering the choice of study to replicate, the design, the ethical position, the statistical test and the written report. The money goes at the planning end, because a replication that cannot be run ethically or analysed meaningfully consumes far more hours later than a well-chosen one ever does.

  • Study choice tested for feasibility, ethics and analysability before any data
  • Ethical requirements addressed explicitly: consent, withdrawal, debriefing, anonymity
  • Statistical test selected to match the design rather than retrofitted to the data
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts as observations, never replacement text

01

Where the marks are, and therefore where the money should go

A direct answer first. In Diploma Psychology the highest return per hour of paid tuition is on short-answer technique, because three questions at nine marks each are won or lost on a structure that can be taught in a handful of marked sessions. The second highest is extended-response evaluation, which is worth more marks and takes longer to move. Content re-explanation is the lowest return, because the class teacher already supplies it and a textbook supplies it again for free.

The table sets out the components with their weightings and, in the final column, what an hour of tuition realistically changes in each. That final column is the one families should read twice. An hour spent on short-answer structure changes marks within a fortnight. An hour spent on the research-methods paper changes marks for Higher Level students and does nothing at all for Standard Level students, who do not sit it. An hour spent re-teaching the sociocultural approach to a student who already has the notes changes nothing, and is the commonest way a tutoring budget is quietly wasted.

Component weightings differ between the levels, which changes the arithmetic. At Standard Level the first written paper dominates, carrying roughly half the grade, with the option paper and the internally assessed report taking the remainder. At Higher Level the load spreads across three papers plus the report, which lowers the first paper's share and introduces a research-methods component that rewards a completely different kind of preparation. Confirm the exact current weightings with the school's Diploma coordinator before building a plan around them.

The practical method is to diagnose before buying. One session attempting a short answer, an extended response and, at Higher Level, a stimulus-based methods question, all marked, tells a family which column of the table their money belongs in. Buying a term of weekly hours without that diagnosis is how a family spends AED 3,000 on the wrong component, and no rate card in Dubai warns them about it.

The nine-mark question: the cheapest marks in the subject

  • Name the concept in the subject's own vocabulary, not a paraphrase
  • Supply aim, outline method and finding; not a study name, not a full report
  • State the link to the question explicitly, because inference earns nothing
  • Write to a deliberate length against a clock, so the essay keeps its time

Three short-answer questions appear in the first written paper, one drawn from each of the three approaches to behaviour, and each is worth nine marks. Students treat them as warm-up questions and lose two or three marks on each. Across the three that is a material loss, and it is almost entirely structural: the content is usually present and the shape of the answer is not.

What the criteria reward is identifiable. The relevant concept has to be named accurately, in the subject's own vocabulary rather than in a paraphrase. Research evidence has to be supplied in enough detail to be credible, which means the aim, the method in outline and the finding, not a full study report and not a study name floating alone. And the link back to the question has to be made explicitly. Students routinely assume the examiner will infer the link; the mark scheme does not reward inference.

The second recurring loss is length discipline. A nine-mark answer written at essay length consumes time the twenty-two mark essay needs, and it does not score more. Students who have been told to write as much as they can produce exactly this failure. Practising to a deliberate length, against a clock, with the marked script showing where the extra paragraphs earned nothing, corrects it quickly. This is the single clearest example in the subject of a mark loss that is cheap to fix and expensive to ignore.

For a family budgeting, the implication is sequencing. Buy a short block on this first, see the marked attempts improve, and only then decide whether to commit to the longer and more expensive extended-response work. A provider who proposes a term of weekly essay coaching before the short answers are secure is proposing the right work in the wrong order, and it will cost more for less.

03

The extended response: twenty-two marks, and why four studies score less than two

The extended response is where the grade is decided and where the expensive hours go. A single essay carries twenty-two marks, and the criteria reward critical thinking as heavily as they reward knowledge. That balance is counter-intuitive for a student who has spent a year accumulating studies, and it produces the most predictable failure in the subject: an essay that describes four studies accurately, demonstrates real effort, and sits in the middle bands.

An essay that scores above that uses fewer studies and does more with them. Two well-chosen pieces of research, each interrogated on method, sample, generalisability, ethical constraints and alternative explanations, generate more creditable critical thinking than four described in sequence. The student also finishes on time, which the four-study essay frequently does not. Teaching this is genuinely harder than teaching short-answer structure, because it requires the student to let go of material they worked to memorise.

There is a second structural problem worth naming. Students often treat evaluation as a final paragraph: three paragraphs of description, then one beginning with a concessive clause. The criteria reward evaluation woven through the argument, so the structure that works integrates the critical point with the study it belongs to. Rebuilding a student's essay plan to that shape, and then practising it under timing until it survives pressure, is the work. It takes a term rather than a fortnight, and a family should budget for a term rather than hope for a fortnight.

The option paper rewards the same skill, which is the one piece of genuinely good news in the cost structure of this subject. Work bought on the extended response transfers directly to the option essays, whether the school studies abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology or human relationships. That means the expensive purchase covers two components rather than one, and families should resist paying separately for option-specific essay coaching when the technique is shared.

04

How the option and the level change the bill

Two decisions already made by the school and the student determine the content load, and therefore the hours. The first is which option the class studies. Standard Level students study one; Higher Level students study two. The options differ in how much specialist content they carry, how well supplied they are with clear, well-known studies, and how much overlap they have with the core approaches. Overlap is the useful property, because content that appears in both the core and the option is revised once and used twice.

The second decision is the level. Higher Level adds extension content within each approach and a separate research-methods paper built on a supplied piece of research. That paper rewards fluency with method and design rather than recall of content, which means a Higher Level student with weak research-methods understanding has an identifiable, separately buyable problem that a Standard Level student simply does not have. Conversely, a Standard Level student being tutored in research methods beyond what the experimental report needs is paying for a paper they will never sit.

The table maps the options against content load, study availability and overlap with the core. Read it as a budgeting aid rather than as a judgement about difficulty: no option here is easy, and the right one for a student depends on interest as much as on workload. What the table does support is a realistic estimate of how many hours a given school's option choice is likely to require, which is information no competitor page in this market provides at all.

One scheduling consequence follows from the Higher Level structure. Three written papers plus an internally assessed report means the final term is crowded, and the research-methods paper is the component most often left until last because it has the least content to revise. Planning that paper's preparation into the calendar rather than leaving it to the end is a cost saving as well as a sanity measure, because emergency hours in the final fortnight are the most expensive hours in the market.

PSYCHOLOGY OPTIONS AND LEVELS - CONTENT LOAD AND BUDGET IMPLICATION
Choice made by the school or studentContent loadOverlap with the core approachesBudget implication
Abnormal psychologySubstantial specialist content on classification, aetiology and treatmentStrong overlap with the biological and cognitive approachesRevision is efficient where it overlaps; treatment content needs its own hours

Studies: how many does a student actually need?

  • A study earns its place if it can answer more than one question
  • If the method cannot be stated clearly, the study cannot be evaluated and should go
  • Around a dozen studies understood deeply beats fifty known by name
  • Build the bank early; rebuilding it in the final fortnight is the expensive version

Dubai students arrive at the final term with a document listing forty or fifty studies and a plan to memorise them. It is a reasonable instinct and it is poor value, because the marks do not scale with the number of studies known. A well-chosen core of around a dozen, each understood deeply enough to be evaluated on method, sample and alternative explanation, covers the realistic question space across the approaches and the option more effectively than fifty known superficially.

The selection criteria are practical. A study earns a place if it can serve more than one question, if the student can state its method clearly enough to criticise it, and if it carries an evaluative handle the student actually understands. A famous study the student cannot describe methodologically is worse than useless in an extended response, because naming it invites an examiner to expect what follows and nothing follows. This is the specific piece of work a Psychology tutor should do early, and it reduces the revision load dramatically.

The cost logic is straightforward. Sessions spent building and stress-testing a compact study bank are cheap, front-loaded and reusable. Sessions spent in the final fortnight trying to make fifty half-known studies examinable are expensive, late and largely futile. A family who buys the first and skips the second spends considerably less across the two years, which is the sort of arithmetic no rate card can show them.

There is an honesty point attached. No tutor can predict which studies the paper will reward, and a provider implying otherwise should be treated with real scepticism. The value of a compact bank is coverage and depth, not prediction. The same caution applies to anyone offering model essays to memorise: the question will not match, and a memorised essay reproduced inaccurately scores worse than an honest attempt written to a practised structure.

06

What Dubai charges, and what the cheapest tier cannot do

The published figures first. A qualified online subject tutor in Dubai is advertised at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and an IB or IGCSE specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, as of October 2026. Budget online tutoring, typically delivered by university students, starts far below that. In-home one-to-one is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500, because travel sits inside the rate. Each band in the table traces to a named publisher.

The important column is the last one, which states what each tier cannot deliver. A university-student tutor at the bottom of the band can usefully explain content and quiz a student on studies. What that tier generally cannot do is mark a twenty-two mark extended response against the published criteria with the critical-thinking strand separated from the knowledge strand, because that requires having marked a number of them. Paying the lowest rate for the component that needs the highest skill is the classic false economy in this subject.

The inverse also holds. Paying a specialist rate to be quizzed on content is paying premium prices for commodity work. A sensible two-year plan sometimes mixes tiers deliberately: cheaper hours for content consolidation and recall drilling, specialist hours for essay marking and the experimental report. No provider in this market suggests that, because it does not suit any provider to suggest it, but it is frequently the right answer for a family with a fixed budget.

Two further cost questions are worth asking anyone. Is marking time inside the hourly rate, or is a returned script billed separately? And what happens to a session the family cancels with twenty-four hours' notice? Neither answer appears on any competitor page examined, and both change the real cost per term materially. Local context helps too: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, so a two-year tutoring plan is being budgeted against a flat school fee.

Research ethics and data protection: the part nobody budgets for

  • Informed consent, right to withdraw, debriefing and anonymity are design requirements, not formalities
  • Participants under eighteen bring guardian consent and school approval into the plan
  • State what data is collected, why, and how it will be deleted
  • The student gathers and analyses their own data; a tutor teaches and questions

The internally assessed component is a replication of a simple experiment, and the ethical requirements around it are not decoration. Participants must give informed consent, must be told they may withdraw, must be debriefed afterwards, and must have their data anonymised. Where participants are under eighteen, which in a school replication they usually are, parental or guardian consent and the school's own approval come into it as well. A study designed without these considerations can be unusable regardless of how good the idea was.

This is where the money is saved or lost in this component. A replication whose design cannot ethically be run, or whose data cannot be analysed with a test the student understands, generates weeks of remedial work. Testing the design against three questions in the first session prevents nearly all of that: can this be run ethically with these participants, can consent and debriefing be documented, and does the design produce data that a specific statistical test can handle. One cheap session at the start removes several expensive ones later.

There is a UAE dimension to the data question. Personal data in the UAE is governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection, and a school replication collecting data about minors should state what is collected, why, and how it will be deleted. This is good practice in a psychology report and a legal consideration in the UAE, and it is the sort of detail that distinguishes a careful report from a careless one in the evaluation section as well.

The academic-honesty boundary applies here in a form specific to empirical work. A tutor may teach design, explain why a test fits a data type, question whether a sample supports a conclusion, and comment on a draft report. A tutor may not collect the data, run the analysis on the student's behalf, or author any part of the submission. Data that has been handled by someone other than the student is not the student's data, and the evaluation section will not survive scrutiny if the student cannot explain how it was gathered.

08

Equivalency, attestation and which subjects actually count

Families in Dubai planning for UAE universities ask a question that almost no tutoring page in this market answers: does this subject count towards Ministry of Education equivalency. The honest answer is that equivalency rules are set by the Ministry and the emirate attestation authority, that they differ by curriculum, and that the published detail for the British track is considerably clearer than for the IB track.

For the British track, the requirements as reported include five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That last detail matters because at least one ranking competitor publishes a different subject count, and publishing the correct rule is a straightforward accuracy win.

For the American track, the reported English proficiency requirement is a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL internet-based test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT mathematics test. For the IB track, no points threshold appears on this page, because none could be verified on the Ministry's own site. Any figure quoted elsewhere without a moe.gov.ae source should be treated with suspicion.

Two boundaries belong with this. IB Gram does not perform, guarantee or expedite equivalency or attestation, and nothing here should be read as doing so; the process belongs to the Ministry and the emirate authority, and families should go to the official channel. And tutoring is not required for equivalency, university admission or school progression. Any provider implying that it is, is making a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process, which is both dishonest and easy to check.

Areas we cover across Dubai

Community matters for the price of an in-home tutor and not at all for the price of an online one. These notes are about that difference, and about where Psychology cohorts in Dubai are large enough to leave individual essays unmarked.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Large Diploma cohorts, which means large Psychology classes and the least individual extended-response marking per student. The highest-return place in the emirate to buy essay marking specifically.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Established schools and short commutes, so in-home quotes here sit lower in the AED 180 to 500 band than in outlying communities. Comparing a local quote against the published bands is still worth doing.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

Higher quoted rates across household services generally, tutoring included. Apartment study space also favours a focused sixty-minute online session over a long block.

Mirdif and Nad Al Sheba

Continuum schools whose Psychology students arrive from MYP rather than from any prior psychology course. Early hours spent on answer structure cost less than late hours spent on both structure and content.

Dubai Hills Estate and Arabian Ranches

Long school runs in both directions, so an in-home slot before 18:00 is often impractical and priced accordingly. Weekend morning online sessions are the common solution for essay work that needs a clear head.

Jumeirah Village Circle, Al Furjan and Motor City

Budget-conscious family communities a long way from the main school corridor. This is where travel time inside an in-home rate is most visible on the invoice.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Proximity to higher-education campuses means university-student tutors are more available locally, at the bottom of the published bands. Worth knowing what that tier can and cannot deliver before choosing on price.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Umm Suqeim

Where Dubai's Psychology cohorts are largest. A class of thirty means the teacher cannot mark thirty twenty-two mark essays weekly, and that single arithmetic fact is the clearest case for buying individual marking. Students we support attend schools in this area; no relationship with any of them is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which component is losing marks

Diploma Psychology Higher Level, short answers are fine, the twenty-two mark essay is capping at twelve is a brief that can be priced and matched. Needs help with psychology is not. Naming the component is what stops a family buying content hours for a technique problem.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson that diagnoses the component

The first session costs nothing and produces marked evidence: one short answer, one extended response and, at Higher Level, a stimulus-based methods question. You receive the marked scripts and a written note of which component the money should go to. That note is the deliverable.

  3. 03

Get the plan, the price and the marking count in writing

Before a block starts you should have the session count, the component being targeted, how many marked scripts you will receive, the per-session price and the cancellation terms. Each of those is a cost driver, and an item missing from the plan tends to be missing in practice as well.

  4. 04

    Sessions with scripts returned marked

Sessions run over live video at a fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time. Written work comes back annotated against the published criteria before the next session, with the critical-thinking and knowledge strands commented separately so the student can act on one at a time.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks and re-point the spend

Read the marked scripts and decide whether the component being targeted is still the right one. Short-answer work often finishes inside six weeks, at which point the money should move to the extended response. If no Psychology specialist is free in your window, you are told at the enquiry.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Hours pointed at the recoverable marks

The diagnostic exists to stop a family buying content re-explanation for a structure problem. Short-answer technique first, extended-response evaluation second, content last, because that is the order of return per hour and no rate card in Dubai will tell you so.

Published rates, attributed, in AED

Every band on this page names the provider or survey behind it, and the final table column says what each tier cannot deliver. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in dollars rather than dirhams.

Essay marking as the actual product

A class of thirty cannot have thirty twenty-two mark essays marked individually each week, and that arithmetic is the clearest case for one-to-one hours in this subject. Scripts come back with mark allocations beside each paragraph, not with a score and a comment.

Mixed tiers where that saves money

Content consolidation does not need a specialist rate and extended-response marking does. Where a family has a fixed budget, saying so produces a better plan than pretending every hour must be premium. No provider benefits from this advice, which is why nobody gives it.

Honest limits and no false urgency

No grade promise, no fabricated statistics, no claim of KHDA, MoHRE or IB approval, which this platform does not hold. Tutoring is not required for equivalency, admission or progression, and any provider suggesting otherwise is making a claim about a regulatory process that is easy to check.

Ethics and data handled properly

The experimental report is planned around consent, withdrawal, debriefing and anonymity from the first session, with UAE personal data law in view. The student gathers and analyses their own data; the tutor teaches, questions and comments on drafts.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an IB DP Psychology online tutor in Dubai cost per hour?+

Published Dubai figures as of October 2026 put a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and a Diploma or IGCSE specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above. Unitors publishes IB rates from AED 200, TutorChase publishes AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate survey covers the specialist band. Those are market rates from the sources named, not a price list for this platform. The more useful question for Psychology is which component the hour is pointed at, because the return per dirham differs sharply between short-answer technique and content re-explanation.

Which Psychology component gives the best return on tutoring hours?+

Short-answer technique, clearly. Three questions at nine marks each appear in the first written paper, and students routinely lose two or three marks on each for structural reasons rather than for missing content. That structure is teachable in a handful of marked sessions and the gain repeats three times on the paper. Extended-response evaluation is worth more marks and takes a term rather than a fortnight, so it is the second purchase. Content re-explanation is the weakest use of a paid hour, because the class teacher and the textbook already supply it at no extra cost.

How many marks is a short-answer question worth in the first written paper?+

Nine marks each, with three questions in that section, one drawn from each of the three approaches to behaviour. What the criteria reward is the concept named in the subject's own vocabulary, research evidence supplied in enough detail to be credible, meaning the aim, the method in outline and the finding, and an explicit link back to the question. Students lose marks by naming a study without describing its method, by paraphrasing the concept, and by leaving the link to be inferred. Confirm the current mark allocation with the school's coordinator before building a revision plan on it.

How many studies does my child actually need to memorise?+

Far fewer than they think. A compact bank of around a dozen studies, each understood well enough to be evaluated on method, sample, generalisability and alternative explanation, covers the realistic question space better than fifty known by name. A study earns its place if it can answer more than one question and if the student can state its method clearly enough to criticise it. Naming a famous study and then saying nothing methodological about it scores worse than using a less famous one properly. Building this bank early is cheap; rebuilding it in the final fortnight is not.

Does the option our school chose change how much help my child needs?+

Yes, mainly through overlap with the core approaches. Human relationships and developmental psychology overlap the sociocultural and cognitive approaches substantially, so content revised for one component serves the other and the effective hours needed fall. Health psychology has less overlap and therefore carries more separate content. Abnormal psychology sits in between, with strong conceptual overlap and treatment content that needs its own attention. None of the options is easy, and interest matters more than workload for a two-year course, but the budget implication is real and worth knowing.

Is the Higher Level research-methods paper worth buying separate hours for?+

For a Higher Level student with weak methods understanding, yes, and it is a distinctly separate purchase. That paper is built on a supplied piece of research and rewards fluency with design, sampling, measurement and interpretation rather than recall of content. It also has the least revisable content, which is why it is the component students leave until last and then run out of time for. For a Standard Level student the answer is a flat no, because that paper is not sat at all and hours spent on it are hours bought for nothing.

Can a tutor be present while my child collects experimental data?+

A tutor can teach the design beforehand and discuss what the data shows afterwards, and that is the useful part. Collecting the data is the student's own work, and a report whose data was gathered or processed by someone else is not the student's submission. The honest division is clear: the tutor questions whether the design can run ethically, whether consent and debriefing can be documented, and whether a statistical test the student understands fits the data type. The student then runs it, analyses it, and writes it up, with feedback on their own drafts as observations rather than replacement text.

Who can take part in a Dubai school psychology replication?+

Participants must give informed consent, be told they may withdraw, be debriefed, and have their data anonymised. Where they are under eighteen, which in a school replication they usually are, guardian consent and the school's own approval are part of the plan rather than an afterthought. UAE personal data is governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection, so the report should state what is collected, why, and how it will be deleted. Design around these requirements from the first session; a study that cannot be run ethically consumes far more time than one chosen carefully.

What is the difference between a describe question and a discuss question?+

They sit at different levels of the command-term ladder and reward different things. A describe or outline instruction asks for an accurate account, and additional evaluation earns nothing against it. A discuss, evaluate or to-what-extent instruction asks for a judgement supported by critical examination of the evidence, and an accurate account alone will cap in the middle bands however well written. Students lose marks in both directions: evaluating a describe question wastes time, and describing a discuss question wastes marks. Reading the command term before planning the answer is the cheapest habit in the subject.

Is Psychology an easier Diploma subject than Biology?+

They are difficult in different places, so the comparison rarely helps a decision. Biology carries heavy factual content, precise terminology and a quantitative investigation. Psychology carries less memorisable content and far more weight on written argument, where a twenty-two mark essay rewards critical evaluation that cannot be learnt by rote. Students who write well and dislike memorising usually find Psychology the better fit; students who prefer definite answers often find Biology more comfortable. Choose on the student's habits of work rather than on a reputation, and check target university requirements before either is dropped.

Does a Psychology grade count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Equivalency is set by the Ministry and the emirate attestation authority, not by any tutoring provider, and the published detail differs by curriculum. For the British track the reported requirements include five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the IB track no points threshold appears here, because none could be verified on the Ministry's own site. Check moe.gov.ae directly, and treat any unsourced IB figure with suspicion.

How much should we budget for the final term before the examinations?+

Work from Bestimate's published monthly bands rather than from a single number. Weekly sessions at the mid tier run roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month, and specialist exam-year work roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. A final term of weekly specialist essay marking therefore sits at the upper end of that, which is why front-loading cheaper work earlier is the better strategy. Availability also tightens as the series approaches and rates firm up rather than soften, so a family booking in February is choosing from a thinner pool at the top of the band.

Are group revision classes a sensible saving for Psychology?+

For content consolidation and recall drilling, yes, and they are genuinely good value for a student who knows the material and needs pace. For the extended response, no, because group formats almost never include individual marking of a twenty-two mark essay, and individual marking is the mechanism that moves that grade. The sensible answer for a fixed budget is often a mix: cheaper or group provision for content, specialist one-to-one for essay marking and the experimental report. Paying less for a format that cannot deliver the mechanism is not a saving at all.

Can one tutor cover both Psychology and Biology for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. The biological approach overlaps Biology directly on neurotransmission, hormones and genetics, and the research-methods and statistics vocabulary is shared across both subjects. A tutor genuinely strong in both reduces cost and keeps the shared material consistent. A tutor strong in one and merely competent in the other will move one grade and leave the other untouched, which costs the same and delivers half. Two specialists beat one generalist at the same combined price where a genuine dual specialist is unavailable.

My child joined Psychology late. Does catching up cost more?+

Usually less than families expect, because Psychology has no pre-Diploma course in most Dubai schools and nearly every student starts from zero in DP1. A student joining a term late is behind on content the class teacher will continue to deliver, and content catch-up is the cheapest kind of work there is: readable, finite and well supplied by the textbook. The expensive gap is technique, and a late joiner is no further behind on that than anyone else. One diagnostic session establishes which gap is real before any block is booked.

Diagnose the component before you buy the hours

The free trial lesson for Diploma Psychology marks three things: a short answer, an extended response and, at Higher Level, a stimulus-based methods question. You receive the marked scripts and a written note saying which component your money should be pointed at, which is the one piece of advice that changes the total you spend across two years. Sessions for UAE families run online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school day. If no Psychology specialist is free in your window, we say so at the enquiry rather than after a payment has cleared.
