IB DP History Online Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP History online tutor in Dubai is worth hiring for two specific jobs and not for a third, and the difference is most of what a family will spend. Lessons here run over live video, one student at a time, in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses, and home visits exist only in our India service. This page sets out the published AED bands with their sources, then separates the skills you buy once from the marking you keep buying and the reading nobody can buy for you.

  • Source-paper technique taught against the mark allocation for each question
  • Essays marked with the criteria strands commented separately
  • Every AED band on this page names the provider or survey that published it
  • Live-video sessions in Gulf Standard Time, no travel inside the rate

Three kinds of spending, and only two of them are worth the money

History is the Diploma subject where the relationship between money spent and marks gained is least obvious, because the subject looks like reading. A parent sees a student with four hundred pages to get through and reasonably concludes that more teaching will help. Some of it will, in a specific and limited way, and a surprising amount of it will not, because a tutor cannot read the books on the student's behalf and the books are where a large part of the grade comes from.

There are three categories of spending in this subject, and keeping them apart is the whole of a sensible budget. The first is a skill you buy once: the source-based paper. It has four questions with fixed mark allocations and an entirely learnable method, and a student who is taught that method properly keeps it for two years. Four to six marked sessions typically does it. This is the best value purchase in Diploma History by a wide margin, and nobody in this market advertises it as such because it does not produce a recurring booking.

The second is marking you keep buying: essays. A fifteen-mark essay needs an argument, a structure, evidence deployed rather than listed, and a judgement that answers the question asked. That improves through repeated marked practice and plateaus without it. A class of twenty-eight in a Dubai school cannot have twenty-eight essays individually annotated every week, which is the arithmetic reason that one-to-one essay marking is worth a specialist rate. It is a recurring cost and a family should budget for it as one.

The third category is reading, and it cannot be bought. Content knowledge in History comes from sustained engagement with the material: the textbook, the set reading, the historiography where the course expects it. A tutor who spends an hour summarising a chapter is selling the student a worse version of something they already own. There is a narrow exception, which is structuring the reading so it is done efficiently and in the right order, and that is one session rather than a term's worth.

Everything numerical below carries its source. The AED bands come from named competitor price pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate survey. The regulatory material comes from u.ae, KHDA and MoHRE. Where a figure could not be verified, including every IB examination and results date, this page says so rather than inventing one. Read the first table, which sorts the components into those three spending categories, before you ring anybody.

One further note on sequence, since it changes the total more than the hourly rate does. The finite work belongs early and the recurring work belongs later, which means a budget spread evenly across two years buys less than the same budget spent deliberately. A source-paper block in the first term of DP1 is secure for the rest of the course. One session testing an investigation question before any research starts removes weeks of remedial drafting. Essay marking then runs across the terms where it is needed rather than all of them. Specialist availability also tightens as the examination series approaches and rates firm up rather than soften, so a family planning in October chooses from a wider pool at a lower point in the published band than a family planning in February.

What a Dubai student brings into Diploma History from MYP or from IGCSE decides which of the three spending categories dominates the first term. The routes produce recognisably different starting problems.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

MYP Individuals and Societies assesses knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. Students from this route usually arrive with genuine source-handling instincts and without the Diploma's per-question method. Their first gap is mechanical rather than intellectual, which is the cheapest kind of gap a family can be presented with.

Dubai's continuum schools feed MYP 5 students directly into DP1 History. The characteristic first-term purchase for that group is the source-paper method, because the critical instinct is already there and only needs the examination's specific question shapes attached to it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE History as the pre-Diploma route

Cambridge and Pearson International GCSE History both carry source work and essay writing, with a shorter answer length and a narrower content span than the Diploma. Students arrive fluent at structured paragraphs and often unpractised at sustained argument across a fifteen-mark essay, where a conclusion that merely restates the introduction caps the mark.

British-curriculum schools hold the largest share of Dubai's private enrolment, so IGCSE History is a common feeder. For this group the money belongs in essay marking rather than in source technique, which is close to the reverse of the MYP profile.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme History

Built on one prescribed subject examined through sources, two world history topics examined through essays, and an internally assessed historical investigation capped at 2,200 words. Higher Level adds a regional option examined through three further essays, which carries a substantial share of the Higher Level grade on its own.

History cohorts in Dubai's IB schools are generally large, which means ample class discussion and very little individual essay marking per student. That imbalance is the specific thing one-to-one hours should be bought to correct, rather than content the class already covers thoroughly.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, personal and professional skills, service learning and language development. History appears inside humanities-oriented pathways, and the assessment demand for that single course, historical investigation included, matches the full Diploma version exactly.

Few Dubai schools run CP with History in it, so a CP student may sit in a very small group or alone. The practical consequence is no peer essays to compare against, which raises the value of an external reader and makes the recurring marking cost harder to avoid.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects are listed below with what they assess and how much written marking they generate, because marking volume rather than teaching time is what drives the real cost of a two-subject arrangement.

History

SL and HL

A source-based paper, two world history essays, and a 2,200-word historical investigation, with a regional option paper added at Higher Level. Marks are lost to essays that narrate rather than argue and to source answers that ignore the mark allocation printed beside the question.

Geography

SL and HL

Written papers plus a fieldwork-based internal assessment. Overlaps History on development, resources and conflict, and shares the demand for evidence used in support of a judgement rather than listed. The fieldwork component has a quite different planning cost profile.

Global Politics

SL and HL

Written papers plus an engagement activity and oral components, built on contested concepts such as power, sovereignty and legitimacy. The essay discipline transfers both ways with History, so a student taking both buys essay marking once and uses it twice.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Guided analysis, comparative essay and oral components. Shares with History the task of building an argument from textual evidence under timed conditions, which is why improvements in one subject frequently appear in the other without extra spending.

Economics

SL and HL

Extended response and data response papers plus short written commentaries. The transferable habit is evaluation against a stated criterion, which is exactly what a History conclusion needs and what most students supply as a summary instead.

Psychology

SL and HL

Short-answer questions, extended-response essays and an experimental report. The critical evaluation of evidence is the shared skill, and the twenty-two mark Psychology essay rewards the same structural discipline as a History essay does.

Business Management

SL and HL

A pre-released case study paper, an unseen paper and a research project. Less overlap with History in content, considerable overlap in the need to apply evidence to a specific situation rather than describe it generally.

Arabic B

SL and HL

Language acquisition assessed through productive and receptive skills plus oral components. Frequently taken alongside History in Dubai, and relevant to this page because KHDA's mandatory Arabic requirements run in parallel with whichever language course a student takes.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed through an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. History is the Diploma subject that feeds Theory of Knowledge most directly, particularly on evidence, perspective and the limits of historical claims, so work on one genuinely supports the other.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three booking shapes, deliberately priced by what they are for. One finishes, one recurs, and one is a single session that saves a term of inefficient reading.

Source-paper method block, four to six sessions

A short finite block on the source-based paper: the two-part short question, the value and limitations question, the compare and contrast question, and the mini-essay that combines sources with the student's own knowledge. Each session returns marked attempts. This block is designed to end, because the method does not need re-teaching once it is secure.

  • Each question type drilled separately against its own mark allocation
  • Value and limitations taught through origin, purpose and content explicitly
  • Compare and contrast practised as a linked structure, not two descriptions
  • The mini-essay timed, because it is where students run out of clock

Essay marking, recurring across a term

Weekly or fortnightly fifteen-mark essays written under timing and returned annotated, with the criteria strands commented separately so a student can act on structure without re-reading the knowledge comments. This is the recurring cost in History and the one worth paying a specialist rate for, because it is the thing a large class cannot supply.

  • One timed essay per cycle across both world history topics in rotation
  • Mark allocation written beside each paragraph on the returned script
  • Judgement and argument commented separately from factual accuracy
  • A repeatable plan structure built to survive examination pressure

Reading and investigation planning, single sessions

One session to sequence the reading efficiently, and one to test an investigation question for answerability before research starts. Both are cheap, both are one-offs, and both remove work that would otherwise be bought at crisis rates later. The student does all the reading and all the research themselves.

  • Reading ordered so each text makes the next one faster
  • Investigation question tested against available sources before any drafting
  • Word budget allocated across the three sections of the investigation at the outset
  • Historiography identified where the course expects it, not collected at random

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The one component where tutoring is cheap, and the one where it is not

A direct answer first. In Diploma History, the best value a family in Dubai can buy is a short finite block on the source-based paper, because that paper rewards a fixed method across four questions with published mark allocations and the method, once learnt, holds for two years. The worst value is content re-explanation, because the class teacher and the textbook already supply it and a tutor summarising a chapter is selling an inferior copy of something the family already owns.

Between those sits essay marking, which is the recurring cost and the one families most often underestimate. A fifteen-mark essay improves through repeated marked practice and plateaus without it, which means the spending does not finish the way source-paper work does. Any honest plan says this out loud, because the alternative is a family who budget for six weeks and are surprised in February.

The table below sorts the components into those three categories. The final column is the one to read twice: it says whether the spending ends, recurs, or should never have started. Nothing like it exists on any competitor page in this market, which is odd, because it is the first thing any experienced History teacher would tell a parent who asked honestly.

The method for using it is a diagnostic. One session attempting a source-paper question set and one timed essay, both marked, tells a family which row their money belongs in. That diagnostic is the free trial here, and its output is a written note rather than an impression. A family who buys a term of weekly hours without it is choosing a row at random, and the rows differ in value by a factor that matters.

The source paper, question by question, with the marks beside each

The source-based paper is examined on a prescribed subject chosen by the school, and its structure is the same whichever subject that is. Four questions, twenty-four marks in total, each rewarding a distinct and learnable behaviour. Students lose marks here not through ignorance but through writing the wrong kind of answer for the mark allocation printed beside the question, which is why this is the component where a short block of teaching produces the largest measurable gain.

The first question has two parts worth three and two marks, asking what a source conveys. It wants content, accurately read, in proportion to the marks. Students write a paragraph where two sentences would score full marks, and the minutes come out of the mini-essay at the end of the paper. The second question, worth four marks, asks for the value and limitations of a source with reference to its origin, purpose and content, and those three words are the structure. An answer that discusses reliability in general terms without anchoring it in origin, purpose and content is answering a different question.

The third question, worth six marks, asks the student to compare and contrast two sources. The marks are in the linkage: an answer that describes source A and then describes source B has not compared anything, however accurate both descriptions are. A linked structure, where each point addresses both sources together, is the whole technique and it is quickly taught. The fourth question, worth nine marks, is a mini-essay requiring the sources and the student's own knowledge in combination, and it is where timing failures land because it comes last.

The table sets out the four questions with their marks, what each tests and the error that recurs. Read the final column as a practice list. Each of those errors is procedural, which means marked attempts fix it, and that is why the block finishes rather than running all year. A provider proposing weekly source-paper work across a full term is proposing to be paid for something that should be complete by half term.

Paper 2: two essays, two topics, and why the second topic doubles the marking

  • Technique transfers between the two topics; content does not transfer at all
  • Take a position in the first paragraph and organise the body by factor, not by date
  • Deploy specific evidence in support of each factor, rather than listing what happened
  • Reach a judgement that answers the question asked, not a summary of the essay
  • Practise the plan structure against a clock until it is automatic

The world history paper requires two essays, each drawn from a different one of the twelve world history topics, and schools choose which two topics they teach. That structure has a direct cost consequence that families rarely anticipate. Essay technique is one skill, so it transfers between topics. Content is two separate bodies of material, so revision does not transfer at all. A student who is confident in one topic and shaky in the other has a content problem in half the paper and no technique problem anywhere.

That distinction is worth money. A tutor marking essays across both topics in rotation is buying technique improvement once and applying it twice, which is efficient. A tutor re-teaching the content of the weaker topic is doing work the student should be doing from the textbook, which is not. The correct response to a weak second topic is usually a reading plan plus essays on that topic specifically, so the marking exposes the content gaps and the student fills them by reading.

The essays themselves reward argument over narrative, and this is the structural failure that dominates the component. A student who tells the story of the event accurately, in chronological order, with a conclusion summarising what happened, will sit in the middle bands however much they know. An essay that scores above that takes a position in the first paragraph, organises the body around the analytical factors rather than the chronology, deploys specific evidence in support of each factor, and reaches a judgement that answers the question as asked.

The practical teaching sequence is a plan structure that survives pressure. Students can produce a good essay with two hours and no stress; the paper gives them considerably less. Building a repeatable plan shape, practising it against a clock until it becomes automatic, and marking the results with the argument strand commented separately from the factual strand is what converts knowledge into marks. That is recurring work, it is the main thing worth a specialist rate in this subject, and a family should plan for it across a term rather than a fortnight.

04

Higher Level: the regional option paper and what the extra weight costs

Higher Level students sit a third written paper on a regional option, choosing a region and studying several sections within it, examined through three essays. It carries a substantial share of the Higher Level grade, which both lowers the share held by the other components and raises the total volume of essay writing considerably. A family budgeting for Higher Level History should expect the recurring marking cost to be meaningfully higher than at Standard Level, and should expect it for a structural reason rather than a vague one.

The content span is the other cost driver. The regional option covers a wider body of material than a single world history topic, and that material must be known in enough specific detail to supply evidence for three essays rather than one. There is no efficient substitute for reading here, and a tutor who offers one should be treated with scepticism. The useful intervention is sequencing: deciding which sections to secure first, which to leave until later, and what the minimum evidence base for each looks like.

The compensating advantage is that the essay skill is identical. A Higher Level student who has had essays marked properly on the world history topics does not need separate technique coaching for the regional option; they need the same marking applied to different content. Families are sometimes sold the regional option as a distinct product requiring its own block of coaching, and that is usually a way of selling the same skill twice.

One scheduling point follows from the structure. Three papers plus an internally assessed investigation makes the final two terms of Higher Level History dense, and the regional option is frequently the component left until last because it is taught last. Mapping it into the revision calendar in DP1 rather than discovering it in DP2 is both cheaper and less distressing, and it is the kind of planning a single early session can set up.

05

The historical investigation: 2,200 words across three sections

The internally assessed component is a historical investigation on a question of the student's own choosing, capped at 2,200 words and assessed across three sections worth twenty-five marks in total. The structure matters for budgeting because the three sections are very unequal in both marks and word count, and students routinely allocate their effort in inverse proportion to the marks available.

The first section identifies and evaluates the sources, carrying six marks, and requires two sources evaluated for value and limitations with reference to their origin, purpose and content. The skill is identical to the one taught for the source paper's second question, which means a student who has done the source-paper block already owns most of this section. That overlap is a genuine saving and worth knowing about before paying for separate investigation coaching.

The second section is the investigation itself, carrying fifteen marks and most of the word count. It wants a focused question answered with evidence and a clear argument, with different perspectives considered where the question invites them. The commonest failure is a question too broad to answer in the words available, and it is a planning failure rather than a writing failure. Testing a question for answerability takes one session and prevents the expensive outcome, which is a student discovering in the final draft that the question was never answerable with the sources they can reach.

The third section is a reflection carrying four marks, connecting the investigation to the methods and challenges historians face. It is short, it is specific, and it is the section students most often write as an afterthought at two in the morning. Written properly it refers back to concrete difficulties the student actually met, which is only possible if the investigation was conducted deliberately. The academic-honesty position across all three sections is simple: the student researches and writes every word, and a tutor teaches, questions and comments on the student's own drafts.

What Dubai charges for History, and why essay subjects price differently

The published bands apply to History as to any Diploma subject. A qualified online subject tutor in Dubai is advertised at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and an IB or IGCSE specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, as of October 2026. In-home one-to-one is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the rate. Budget online provision, usually delivered by university students, starts well below those figures. Each band in the table traces to a named publisher.

Essay subjects price differently from problem-based subjects for a reason worth understanding. Marking a fifteen-mark History essay properly takes a specialist a substantial fraction of a lesson's length, because there is no answer key and the judgement has to be made against criteria and then explained to the student in a way they can act on. A provider quoting at the bottom of a band is almost always quoting for contact time alone. The question to put directly is whether written work is marked and returned inside the rate, and how many scripts a term includes.

The final column in the table estimates the hours typically needed for each kind of work in this subject, which is the figure families actually want and which no competitor page supplies. Read it as a planning aid rather than a quotation: a student's starting point changes the numbers, which is what the free diagnostic exists to establish. Monthly package pricing circulating in Dubai includes around AED 799 for eight online sessions at the budget end, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits at the mid tier.

Local context helps frame the total. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate students at 7 per cent of enrolment, so Diploma specialists are serving a minority curriculum and price accordingly. KHDA also confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package, which means a two-year tutoring plan is being budgeted against a flat school fee rather than a rising one.

UAE Social Studies, Arabic and Islamic Education alongside Diploma History

No competitor page in this market mentions this at all, and it is a real part of a Dubai History student's week. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with those requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. These sit alongside the Diploma rather than inside it, and they occupy timetable space that a family planning tutoring needs to account for.

The organisational rules are specific. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details affect any plan. Instructional time for these subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Schools are also required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. And for the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is not permitted, which is a genuine constraint on how support for them may be described by anyone.

The practical upshot for a History family is scheduling rather than content. More discrete mandatory blocks means less timetable slack, so a fixed protected weekly slot outperforms a flexible arrangement that erodes. Ramadan moves the whole pattern later and a post-Iftar slot is a normal request that costs nothing extra over video. On examination timing, this page publishes no IB dates: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so nothing here is confirmed from the IB directly, and the session windows belong with the school's Diploma coordinator or ibo.org.

Sources, past papers and what a tutor may not supply

  • Official papers, mark schemes and guides are cited and linked, never supplied as downloads
  • The student locates, reads and evaluates their own sources, because that is the assessed skill
  • Historiography must be read, not collected as names attached to one-line positions
  • Any offer of finished assessed work should be refused regardless of price

History is the subject where requests for material are most common and most often misplaced. Families ask for mark schemes, past papers, syllabus documents and subject guides, and the answer on these pages is consistent: those documents belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. A tutor may reference them, cite the official address, and link out. Supplying them as downloads is not something any legitimate provider should be doing, whatever the price.

The same boundary covers the historical investigation, in a form specific to this subject. A tutor may teach source evaluation, question whether an investigation's question is answerable, point out that a section is under-evidenced, note that a reflection has drifted into generality, and comment on drafts the student has written. A tutor may not locate and summarise the student's sources for them, nor author any part of the submission. Research is the skill being assessed, so outsourcing it removes the thing being marked.

There is a historiography caution worth making explicitly. Where a course expects engagement with differing historical interpretations, a student needs to have read enough to represent those interpretations honestly. A list of historian names attached to one-line positions, collected from a revision site, is detectable and weak: an examiner can tell the difference between a student who has read an argument and one who has memorised a label. A tutor can point a student towards what is worth reading, and that is a legitimate and useful service; reading it is still the student's job.

One market caution to close on. At least one operator in this search results page sells completed internal assessments outright. That is an academic-integrity breach, it triggers IB malpractice procedures, and the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller. Any provider offering finished work, model investigations to submit, or memorisable essays presented as examination answers should be declined. The honest alternative is less convenient and it is the only one that survives scrutiny.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

These notes are about where History cohorts in Dubai are large enough that individual essays go unmarked, and about what living far from the main school corridor does to an in-home quote and not at all to an online one.

Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh

The emirate's largest Diploma cohorts, which means big History classes and the thinnest individual essay marking per student. The clearest place in Dubai to buy recurring essay feedback rather than content.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Established schools and short commutes, so in-home quotes sit lower in the published AED 180 to 500 band here than in outlying communities. Worth checking any local quote against the table below regardless.

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and The Springs

Villa communities feeding long-established Diploma provision. Higher Level History students here often take the regional option paper, which adds three essays to the marking load and therefore to the recurring cost.

Mirdif and Nad Al Sheba

Continuum schools, so History students arrive from MYP with source instincts and without the per-question method. Four to six sessions on the source paper is the characteristic first purchase and it finishes.

Dubai Hills Estate and Arabian Ranches

Long school runs in both directions, which makes a weekday in-home slot before 18:00 impractical and priced accordingly. Weekend mornings suit essay work, which needs a clear head rather than a spare hour.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

Apartment living and higher quoted rates across household services. Sixty-minute online sessions with a headset work better here than long blocks in a shared room, and keep the weekly cost predictable.

Jumeirah Village Circle, Al Furjan and Dubai Investments Park

Budget-conscious communities a long way from the Diploma corridor. This is where the travel component inside an in-home rate is most visible, and where the online case needs no argument at all.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Dubai's densest Diploma provision, with History cohorts large enough that weekly individual essay marking is arithmetically impossible for the class teacher. Students we support attend schools in this area; no relationship with any of them is implied or claimed.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Mirdif, Dubai Festival City and Al Jaddaf

Continuum and established international schools whose History intake arrives largely from MYP. The typical profile here is a student with genuine critical instincts and no familiarity with the source paper's per-question mark allocations.

  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which component is losing the marks

Diploma History Standard Level, source paper is fine, essays capping at nine out of fifteen is a brief that can be priced precisely. Needs help with history is not. Naming the component is what prevents a family buying content hours for an argument problem, which is the commonest waste in this subject.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson that sorts the spending

The first session costs nothing and produces marked evidence: one source-paper question set and one timed essay. You receive both annotated plus a written note saying whether your money belongs in the finite source block, the recurring essay marking, or neither. That note is the deliverable.

  3. 03

Agree a plan that says when the spending stops

Before any block, the plan should state the component targeted, the number of sessions, how many marked scripts you will receive, the price per session and the cancellation terms. A source-paper block should have an end date written into it. A plan with no end date for finite work is a plan to be billed indefinitely.

  4. 04

Sessions with written work returned marked

Sessions run over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time. Timed work comes back annotated against the published criteria before the next session, with argument and structure commented separately from factual accuracy so the student can act on one strand at a time.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks and move the money

Source-paper work usually finishes inside six weeks, at which point the spending should either stop or move to essay marking. Read the marked scripts and decide. If no Diploma History specialist is free in your window, you are told at the enquiry rather than matched with a general humanities tutor at specialist rates.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Spending sorted into ends, recurs and wasted

The source-paper block finishes. Essay marking recurs. Content re-explanation should not be bought at all. Saying which is which costs this platform recurring revenue and saves a Dubai family real money, which is why no competitor page in this market says it.

Published rates, attributed, with hours attached

Every AED band here names the provider or survey that published it, and the rate table adds the hours each kind of work typically needs. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in dollars rather than dirhams.

Essay marking as the actual product

A class of twenty-eight cannot have twenty-eight fifteen-mark essays individually annotated weekly. That arithmetic is the whole case for one-to-one hours in History, and it is why scripts come back with mark allocations beside each paragraph rather than with a grade and a sentence.

Overlaps used rather than sold twice

Source evaluation taught for the written paper also covers most of the investigation's first section, and essay technique taught for the world history topics covers the Higher Level regional option. Those overlaps are a saving, and they are pointed out rather than quietly re-sold.

Honest limits on what can be supplied

No official papers, mark schemes or guides as downloads, because they are not ours to distribute. No finished assessed work at any price. No grade guarantee, no fabricated statistics, and no claim of KHDA, MoHRE or IB approval, which this platform does not hold.

Scheduling built around a Dubai week

Sessions sit after the school day in Gulf Standard Time, allow for the mandatory KHDA subject blocks that crowd a Diploma timetable, move later during Ramadan, and survive school events through a reschedule window rather than a forfeited paid hour.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an IB DP History online tutor in Dubai cost per hour?+

Published Dubai figures as of October 2026 put a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and a Diploma or IGCSE specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above. Unitors publishes IB rates from AED 200, TutorChase publishes AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate survey covers the specialist band. Those are market rates from the sources named, not a price list for this platform. In History the more important question is how many hours you need, because the source-paper work finishes in four to six sessions and essay marking recurs.

How many marks is each question on the source paper worth?+

The paper carries twenty-four marks across four questions. The first has two parts worth three and two marks, asking what a source conveys. The second, worth four marks, asks for value and limitations with reference to origin, purpose and content. The third, worth six marks, asks for comparison and contrast of two sources. The fourth, worth nine marks, is a mini-essay using the sources together with the student's own knowledge. Confirm the current allocation with the school's coordinator. Writing the wrong length for the marks printed beside a question is the most common avoidable loss on this paper.

How do I find out which prescribed subject my child's school teaches?+

Ask the class teacher or the Diploma coordinator, and do it before buying any revision material. The source paper is examined on one prescribed subject chosen by the school from a published set, and the content differs entirely between them. Students who revise from an online resource covering a different prescribed subject waste real time, and it happens often enough to be worth checking explicitly. The same applies to the two world history topics for the essay paper and, at Higher Level, to the regional option. Three questions to the coordinator saves a term of misdirected work.

Why does the second world history topic need as much work as the first?+

Because essay technique transfers between topics and content does not. The paper requires two essays from two different topics, so a student who is confident in one and shaky in the other has a content gap covering half the paper with no technique gap anywhere. The efficient response is a reading plan for the weaker topic plus marked essays written specifically on it, so the marking exposes the gaps and the student closes them by reading. Paying a tutor to re-teach that topic's content is paying for work the textbook already does.

How long is the historical investigation allowed to be?+

The current limit is 2,200 words across the whole investigation, covering all three assessed sections. The allocation between sections should follow the marks rather than the student's enthusiasm: the investigation itself carries the large majority of both the marks and the words, source evaluation takes roughly a fifth, and the reflection is short. Confirm the limit with the school's coordinator before drafting begins. Cutting an over-length draft late is the worst outcome, because what gets removed under time pressure is almost always argument rather than padding.

What belongs in the reflection section of the investigation?+

A short, specific account connecting the investigation the student actually did to the methods and challenges historians face: the limits of the available sources, the problem of perspective, the gaps the student could not fill, the choices made about what counted as evidence. What loses marks is generic commentary about history as a discipline that could have been written without doing any investigation at all. Written properly it refers back to concrete difficulties encountered, which is only possible when the research was conducted deliberately rather than assembled at the end.

Can a tutor choose my daughter's investigation question for her?+

A tutor can test a question she has proposed, which is the useful thing, and should. The test is practical: is it narrow enough to answer in 2,200 words, do sources exist that she can actually reach, and does it invite more than one perspective. A tutor handing her a question removes the first piece of historical judgement the component assesses. The honest version is that she brings two or three candidate questions, the tutor questions each one, and she chooses. That single session prevents the expensive outcome of discovering in the final draft that the question was never answerable.

Is the Higher Level regional option worth paying extra hours for?+

It needs extra hours of essay marking rather than a separate block of technique coaching, and that distinction matters financially. The regional option is examined through three further essays and carries a substantial share of the Higher Level grade, so the volume of marking rises. The essay skill itself is identical to the one used on the world history paper, so a student already having essays marked properly does not need a second course of technique teaching. Families are sometimes sold the regional option as a distinct product, which is usually the same skill charged for twice.

How do you teach source evaluation over live video?+

The sources sit on a shared screen and get annotated live, which works better than passing a printed sheet across a table. The student marks up origin, purpose and content as they read, the tutor can see the order in which they notice things, and that order is where the teachable material is. Timed attempts are then written and marked offline with the mark allocation written beside each answer, and returned before the next session. For a paper that is mostly about reading closely under pressure, sharing the reading in real time is a genuine advantage of the format.

Can a tutor give my son past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and any provider who offers to should prompt a question about what else they are willing to distribute. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and subject guides belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or supplying them is copyright infringement. What a tutor can legitimately do is reference them, cite the official source, and point to where a school or a student may lawfully access them through the school's own subscription. Schools hold the appropriate access, so the coordinator is the right first stop for practice material.

Does Dubai's mandatory Social Studies requirement overlap with Diploma History?+

They run in parallel rather than overlapping usefully. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs in the Arabic first-language, Islamic Education and Social Studies strands. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. For the mandatory subjects, additional or different content without prior Ministry permission is not permitted. The practical effect on a History family is scheduling: more discrete blocks means less timetable slack for a weekly tutoring slot.

How many essays a week should a History student be writing before the examinations?+

Fewer than families expect, written properly, rather than many written quickly. One timed essay a week, marked and reviewed before the next is attempted, produces more improvement than three written without feedback, because the point of the exercise is to act on the marking. In the final month the useful pattern shifts towards plans rather than full essays: a plan takes fifteen minutes, exposes whether the student can structure an argument under pressure, and can be reviewed quickly. Full timed essays then confirm that the plan survives being written out.

Is History a harder Diploma subject than Geography?+

They are demanding in different ways, so the comparison is a poor basis for a choice. History carries a heavy reading load, a source-based paper with its own method, and essays that reward sustained argument. Geography carries more diverse content, quantitative elements, and a fieldwork-based internal assessment with a distinct planning burden. Students who read widely and write well usually find History the better fit; students who prefer applied data and a structured investigation often prefer Geography. Choose on the student's working habits, and check target university requirements before either is dropped.

My child's class has moved on from a topic they never understood. What now?+

Separate the content gap from the technique gap before spending anything, because they need different responses. A content gap in a topic already taught is closed by reading, a clear sequence and some retrieval practice, and that is cheap or free. What a paid hour adds is a reading order and a set of marked essays on that topic, so the marking shows precisely which parts of the content are still missing. Buying a tutor to re-deliver the lessons the class has already had is the expensive version of the same outcome, and it is slower.

Does starting History late cost more than starting a science late?+

Usually, and the reason is the reading rather than the teaching. A science student joining late faces a finite set of concepts and problem types that can be taught in sequence. A History student joining late faces a body of material that has to be read, and nobody can read it for them, so the catch-up time is largely the student's own and cannot be compressed by buying hours. What paid hours do add is a sequence for the reading and marked essays that show whether it is landing. Start earlier where that is still possible.

Find out which kind of spending you actually need

The free trial lesson for Diploma History marks two things: a source-paper question set and one timed essay. You receive both annotated and a written note saying whether your money belongs in the finite source-paper block, in recurring essay marking, or in neither because the real gap is reading the student has to do themselves. Sessions for UAE families run online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school day. If no Diploma History specialist is free in your window, we say so at the enquiry rather than after a block has been paid for.
