IB DP Business Management Tutor in Dubai

Hiring an IB DP business management tutor in Dubai is a decision about plans, not hours. The published market here runs from about AED 45 an hour for a general subject tutor to AED 450 and above for a Diploma specialist, but the figure that decides your invoice is how many hours the plan needs and when it starts. This page prices three realistic plans against those bands. Lessons run one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time, and the first lesson is free.

Buy a plan with a number on it, not an hour with a rate on it

Ask what a Business Management tutor costs in Dubai and the answers you get are all technically true and none of them useful. Rates published in this emirate run from AED 33 to 52 an hour at Tutopiya's budget end and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik's, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor, to the AED 200 to 450 specialist band on Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table, with BartyED quoting AED 650 for premium named tutoring. Every one of those numbers is the market. None of them tells you what your child's situation will actually cost, because the hourly rate is the smallest variable in the calculation.

The variable that matters is how many hours the plan needs, and that depends on three things a rate card cannot see: when you start, which components are weak, and whether the research project has been begun. A DP1 student who needs one unit closed and a project question approved is buying twelve to eighteen hours across two years. A DP2 student six weeks from the papers with no project draft and a 4 in the mocks is buying twenty-five hours in a fortnight, at a higher rate, for a smaller movement. Same subject, same emirate, same tutor quality, four times the invoice.

Business Management also prices differently from a science or a mathematics course because of where its marks sit. A substantial share of the grade comes from a written response to a case study the school receives in advance, and another large share from a research project the student designs around a real organisation. Neither is content you can cram. Both reward work done early, which is why in this subject specifically the cheapest tutoring is bought in the first year and the most expensive tutoring is bought in the last term.

One more thing to settle before any money changes hands: what the tutor will not do. The research project has to be the student's own work, built on data the student gathered or sourced. A provider who offers to hand over a finished project is selling an academic-honesty finding that attaches to your child's Diploma, not to their invoice. Legitimate support is slower and duller, and it is the only kind worth paying for. The boundary belongs in writing before the first session, not in a conversation after a problem.

So read this page in that order. The first section prices three plans a Dubai family might realistically buy, with the hours and the totals stated at the published market bands. The sections after it explain what those hours are spent on: the command-term ladder that mid-band scripts keep failing to climb, the organisation choice that decides whether the research project works, and the difference the Higher Level extension makes to both. Then the practical layer: permits, VAT, trial conditions, and how many evenings a Dubai Year 12 week actually leaves free.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Business Management is a final-two-year subject, but the skills it is marked on are built across the whole IB continuum: reading a stakeholder's position, using a tool rather than naming it, and handling evidence without exaggerating it. Here is what each IB programme a Dubai school runs contributes.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

There is no MYP business course. The groundwork arrives through Individuals and Societies and through the MYP personal project, which is the first time most students scope a piece of independent work, keep a process journal and meet a word limit. That is closer to the Diploma research project than anything else in the continuum, and students who took it seriously arrive able to plan a timeline.

Many Dubai Diploma candidates come from an MYP cohort on the same campus, and departments here report the same inheritance each year: students who can discuss a company's decisions fluently but cannot apply a named management tool to a specific problem. The repair is technical rather than conceptual and takes two or three sessions per tool.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Business Management sits in Group 3 and runs across both years at Standard or Higher Level. Candidates sit a written paper based on a case study released to schools in advance, a second written paper built on unseen data, and submit a business research project built around a real organisation within a stated word limit. Confirm the current component weightings and limits in the IB subject guide at ibo.org.

Business Management is one of the most frequently chosen Group 3 subjects in Dubai Diploma schools, often running alongside Economics in the same block so students pick one. KHDA inspects these schools annually on a six-band scale and its published reports name subject-level strengths, which is worth reading before deciding whether a mid-term grade reflects teaching or workload.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme combines Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Business Management is a common pairing because the career-related study often sits in the same field. A CP student sits the same Business Management papers and submits the same project, so the subject support required is identical to a Diploma student's.

A handful of Dubai schools run the Career-related Programme, which means a CP student taking Business Management is frequently the only one in the building on that route. The practical consequence is scheduling: the reflective project and the career-related study compete for the same evenings as the business research project, usually in the first term of the second year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Business Management is five units plus a set of analytical tools, assessed through two written papers and one research project. Below is what a tutor works through with a Dubai candidate, and where the marks most often go missing in each part.

Unit 1: Introduction to business management

Standard and Higher Level

Business types, sectors, objectives, stakeholders, growth and the external environment. It reads as background and carries real marks, because almost every extended answer in the subject requires a stakeholder position and most candidates assert one instead of justifying it from the case material.

Unit 2: Human resource management

Standard and Higher Level

Organisational structure, leadership, motivation theory, industrial relations and change management. The commonest deduction is theory recited rather than applied: a candidate who explains a motivation theory in general terms without connecting it to the named employees in the case loses the application marks entirely.

Unit 3: Finance and accounts

Standard and Higher Level

Sources of finance, costs and revenues, break-even, final accounts, ratio analysis and cash-flow forecasting. This is where Dubai candidates most often need teaching rather than technique, and where a calculation shown without a unit or a conclusion scores the method mark and loses the rest.

Unit 4: Marketing

Standard and Higher Level

Market research, segmentation, the marketing mix, branding and international marketing. Students enjoy this unit and over-write it. The marks go to answers that choose between options and justify the choice with case evidence rather than listing every element of a mix the examiner already knows.

Unit 5: Operations management

Standard and Higher Level

Production methods, quality management, location, supply chain, research and development and crisis management. It is the unit most often rushed at the end of DP2 and the one that appears most reliably in unseen data questions, which makes it the highest-risk gap to leave open.

The pre-released case study

Paper 1, Standard and Higher Level

A case study reaches schools well before the examination, and preparation for it can begin the moment it arrives. Candidates who treat it as reading material rather than as a research task arrive knowing the story and not the numbers, the stakeholders or the tools the case invites.

The unseen data paper

Paper 2, Standard and Higher Level

Short and extended responses built on stimulus material and quantitative extracts never seen before. The skill is reading quickly, extracting the right figure, and spending the writing time on the evaluative part rather than on describing the business in the opening paragraph.

The business research project

Internal assessment, Standard and Higher Level

An independent investigation into a real organisation and a real issue, within a stated word limit and marked against published criteria. Most lost marks come from a question that cannot be answered with the data available, which is a problem created in week one and discovered in month four.

The management toolkit

Both papers, with Higher Level additions

SWOT, Ansoff, BCG, decision trees, force-field analysis, the business plan and more, with some tools reserved for Higher Level in the current guide. Examiners reward a tool used to reach a judgement, not a tool drawn and left unexplained beside the answer.

Command terms and the mark ladder

Both papers

Define, describe, apply, analyse, discuss and evaluate carry different expectations and different mark allocations. Practising the same stem under two different command terms in one session is the fastest way to show a student why their long answers are scoring in the middle.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

There are three distinct jobs in Business Management support and they do not cost the same. Teaching finance and accounts from scratch, preparing a pre-released case study, and supervising a research project need different session lengths, different cadences and different levels of specialism.

Fortnightly consolidation through DP1

Sixty minutes every second week, running slightly behind the school's scheme of work, so units close as they are taught rather than accumulating. This is the lowest total cost across two years and the plan fewest Dubai families choose, because in DP1 the grade still looks recoverable without help. Finance and accounts is the unit this shape protects best.

  • One unit finished before the next begins
  • A short calculation drill in every session
  • Project question scoped during DP1, not in DP2

A case-study block once the material arrives

Four to six sessions concentrated in the weeks after the school receives the pre-released case study. The work is research rather than revision: building a stakeholder map, pulling the numbers out of the appendices, deciding which tools the case actually invites, and rehearsing the extended response under timed conditions with the case open.

  • Stakeholder and numbers audit before any essay practice
  • Two timed extended responses, marked against the band descriptors
  • A one-page summary the student writes and the tutor questions

Research project supervision, billed by milestone

Three to five sessions spread across the project rather than booked weekly: one to test whether the question can be answered with obtainable data, one on method and the organisation's cooperation, one on the criteria read against a draft, one on the final structure. Billed by milestone because projects move in bursts and a weekly slot pays for the quiet weeks.

  • Question tested for answerability before a month is committed to it
  • Criteria read against the draft with the descriptor open
  • The student writes every word; the tutor comments and asks questions

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Three realistic plans, priced against what the Dubai market publishes

A plan is the only unit of purchase that can actually be compared between providers, so here are three, costed at the published bands rather than at any price of ours. The first starts in DP1 and keeps the subject from going wrong. The second starts after the DP2 mock examinations and repairs specific components. The third starts in the final six weeks and does what can still be done. The hourly rate is similar in all three. The totals are not remotely similar.

Notice what the table shows about timing. The DP1 plan uses more calendar and fewer hours, because a unit closed in the week it is taught takes two hours and the same unit rebuilt in April takes five, alongside five other subjects competing for the same evenings. The final-term plan is not bad value per hour; it is expensive because it is buying technique under a clock, usually at two sessions a week, and because by then the research project is either finished or a crisis.

Use these as a template for interrogating any quote you receive. Ask the provider to state the number of sessions, the length of each in minutes, whether marking between sessions is included, and what the total comes to. If they cannot or will not put a total next to a plan, you are not being sold a plan. You are being sold an open-ended hourly arrangement with your family's exam calendar as the only thing limiting it.

02

Why the hourly rate is the least informative number in the decision

A Dubai parent comparing AED 220 against AED 380 an hour is comparing the wrong two things. The cheaper option may need three sessions to teach break-even analysis properly and may not mark a timed paper at all; the dearer one may do it in a single session and return a marked script with band descriptors attached. On a per-mark basis the dearer tutor can be the cheaper purchase, and on a different task the opposite is true. The rate tells you almost nothing without the task attached to it.

Three things sit inside a rate and are rarely itemised. Marking: reading a Business Management data-response paper properly takes a tutor twenty-five to forty minutes, and whether that happens between sessions or not at all is the largest hidden variable in a Dubai invoice. Session length: 45, 60, 90 and 120-minute sessions are all quoted as a session fee here, so convert everything to a per-sixty-minute figure before you compare. Written feedback to the parent: some include it monthly, some never produce anything in writing.

There is a fourth, specific to this subject. Ask whether research project supervision is billed at the same rate as teaching. Some providers charge a premium for it, some refuse it, and some quietly offer the thing they should not offer. Settle it in the first conversation. A plan that covers the two written papers and leaves the project unsupervised has left a substantial share of the grade outside the arrangement you just paid for.

03

Command terms, and the ladder your child's long answers are failing to climb

The most frequent complaint from Dubai parents in this subject is that their child writes at length, clearly knows the material, and scores in the middle. The cause is almost always the command term. Business Management mark schemes attach different expectations to define, describe, apply, analyse, discuss and evaluate, and the mark allocation follows the term rather than the topic. A candidate who answers an evaluate question with a well-organised description has written a good answer to a question that was not asked.

The ladder is learnable in a handful of sessions because it is structural rather than conceptual. An apply question wants the theory tied to the named business in the stimulus. An analyse question wants a chain of consequence with a because in it. A discuss question wants both sides. An evaluate question wants both sides plus a judgement that follows from the weight of the argument and refers to the organisation's own objectives and context. Most mid-band scripts stop one rung short, consistently, in every question.

The drill that moves it fastest is unglamorous. Take one stem and answer it twice in one session under two different command terms, then compare the two answers against the descriptors side by side. Students see the difference immediately in a way no explanation achieves. Three or four sessions of that, plus a marked paper between each, is typically what separates a candidate writing competent middle-band prose from one writing shorter answers that score higher.

COMMAND TERMS IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT - WHAT EACH ANSWER MUST CONTAIN AND THE FAILURE WE SEE MOST
Command termWhat the answer must containThe failure we see mostWhere the marks actually go
Define and describeA precise term, in subject language, nothing morePadding a two-mark definition into a paragraph and losing time later in the paperAccuracy and brevity; a longer definition scores no higher
ApplyThe theory tied explicitly to the named organisation in the stimulusCorrect theory explained in general terms with no reference to the caseApplication marks, which are lost entirely when the business is not named in the answer
AnalyseA chain of consequence: this change leads to that effect because of this mechanismA list of effects with no causal link between themAnalysis marks, which depend on the because rather than on the number of points
DiscussBoth sides, with evidence drawn from the material on eachOne side argued thoroughly and the other mentioned in a closing sentenceBalance; a one-sided discussion caps in the middle band however well written
EvaluateBoth sides, plus a judgement that follows from the weight of argument and the organisation's objectivesA judgement asserted in the final line without reference to what preceded itThe top band, which is reachable only when the conclusion is argued rather than announced
04

Choosing a Dubai organisation the research project can actually use

The research project goes wrong in week one, not in month four. A student picks a business they find interesting, writes a question they cannot answer with any data they will be able to obtain, and discovers the problem after the school's first draft deadline. Rescuing that costs more tutoring hours than the entire rest of the subject, which makes the first two hours of project supervision the highest-value money in this plan. The test is simple and can be applied before anything is written: name the data, name the source, name the date you will have it.

Dubai gives students more options than most cities, and some of them are better than others. A family-owned business with a cooperative owner yields primary interview data and genuine internal detail. A listed company on the Dubai Financial Market yields published accounts that support ratio analysis without needing anyone's permission. A large multinational's regional office is interesting and usually impenetrable, because nobody at that level answers a student email. A free-zone startup is accessible and often has no accounts worth analysing yet.

There is a practical and ethical layer too. Anything a business shares in confidence has to be handled as the owner permits, anonymised if asked, and never published in a way that identifies individuals without consent. Teach that early: it is both good research practice and the way the project criteria expect the student to behave. A tutor's job here is to make the student sceptical about their own question before the school's deadline makes the point for them.

05

Standard against Higher Level, and what the difference costs in hours

Higher Level Business Management adds content within the units, additional tools, and a longer and more demanding written response to the pre-released case study. Confirm the current structure and weightings in the IB subject guide at ibo.org rather than taking them from any tutoring page, including this one, because guides are revised and tutoring websites are not. What does not change is the practical consequence: Higher Level needs more hours for the same grade, and it needs them in different places.

The honest comparison matters at two moments. The first is the level decision at the start of DP1, where the deciding factor is usually the rest of the timetable rather than the subject itself. The second is a level change partway through, which Dubai schools will sometimes permit in the first year and almost never in the second. A family considering the move should price the catch-up before the conversation with the coordinator, because the extra content is real and arrives all at once.

For hiring, the difference is specific rather than general. Ask a prospective tutor which Higher Level tools they teach and how they prepare the longer case-study response, and ask how many Higher Level candidates they have taken through to a May session. A tutor who teaches both levels well can answer in two sentences. A tutor who mostly teaches Standard Level will answer in generalities, and your child will find the gap in the first week of the final term.

06

Business Management or Economics: picking the Group 3 subject that fits the degree

Many Dubai schools block Business Management and Economics against each other, so the choice is real and is usually made with poor information. The short version: Economics is more analytical and more diagrammatic, with a stronger mathematical flavour and an assessment built on timed written argument. Business Management is more applied, more case-based, and carries a research project built on a real organisation. Neither is harder in the abstract. They are difficult in different ways and they suit different students.

For university routes, the pattern matters more than the prestige. Quantitative economics degrees typically specify a mathematics course rather than Economics itself, most commonly Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and some will accept Applications and Interpretation. Business, management and marketing degrees generally accept either Group 3 subject and care more about the overall points total. Finance programmes vary enough that the only reliable method is reading the published entry requirements for the specific courses on your child's list.

For students who already know they want to run or join a business, the research project is a genuine argument for Business Management: it is the only part of the Diploma where a student negotiates access to a real organisation, gathers data from it and reaches a judgement a stakeholder could act on. For students who enjoy abstract reasoning and diagrams, Economics tends to feel better and to score better. A diagnostic hour in each, with a marked piece of work from both, settles the question faster than any advice.

07

Academic honesty, secondary data and the project boundary

The research project must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach method, explain what each criterion rewards, ask whether the data gathered can support the conclusion being reached, and point out that a section does not answer its own research question. A tutor may not supply the text, select the organisation, construct the analysis or rework a draft to completion. That line is not a stylistic preference, and the consequence of crossing it attaches to the candidate's Diploma rather than to the tutor's invoice.

Secondary data brings its own rules. Published accounts, market reports and news coverage can be used, and they must be cited where they came from, with the date. Reproducing an IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus document, a mark scheme or a grade-boundary table is not permitted and no tutor should be circulating them; the correct move is to reference the official page and link to it. If a student uses a generative AI tool for anything, from summarising an article to tidying a sentence, the school's own policy governs it and the honest route is to declare it.

There is a cheap test any Dubai parent can run without reading the project. Ask your child to explain, without notes, why they chose that organisation, what data they have, and what the data does not let them say. A student who did the work answers in under a minute, including the limitations. A student who did not will describe the company instead. Any tutor charging a specialist rate will have run that test already and should be willing to tell you what the answer was.

08

Permits, VAT, trial conditions and the Dubai week

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated, and the detail is worth knowing because it gives you a question that separates a professional from an opportunist. Individuals offering private lessons need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so disregard any figure you see quoted.

Ask about approval claims as carefully as about price. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, and no platform should describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson unless it holds the specific permit and can produce the number. IB Gram holds none of them and does not occupy premises in the UAE. On money, ask whether a quoted figure includes VAT and ask what the condition on any free trial is, since a trial with an undisclosed condition is not free.

Then do the timetable arithmetic, because it decides whether a plan survives contact with reality. Every Dubai private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies alongside its licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring these arrangements from the start of the 2025-26 academic year and calculating the time on a 40-minute lesson unit. Add six Diploma subjects, the core, travel and any after-school commitment, and most Year 12 weeks have one usable weekday evening plus part of a weekend. During Ramadan, sessions commonly move later; schedule that in advance rather than renegotiating weekly.

09

Availability, fallback and the honest version of getting started

Business Management is widely taught in Dubai Diploma schools, so specialist coverage at Standard Level is usually good and a match is normally made within a few days. Higher Level case-study work in the fortnight before a mock series is the pinch point, and project supervision in the weeks around a school draft deadline is the second. We would rather tell you the slot is full than fill it with whoever happens to be free, which is the commonest quiet failure in this market and one no competing page in this search discloses.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with sessions recorded so revision does not depend on notes taken live, a shared whiteboard for break-even charts and ratio work, and screen sharing for case-study appendices. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a home anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. In-home tuition is a real product here, published at AED 180 to 350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 table with some home tutors at AED 200 to 500, and the premium buys presence while narrowing the pool of specialists to those willing to drive to your community at your hour.

The honest version of getting started is short. Tell us the level, the next school deadline, and whether the research project has a question yet. Take the free first lesson, which is one per student with no card details taken, and use it as a diagnostic that produces a marked script. Read the plan and the total. Start, change tutor, or stop. If the marks are flat after six weeks of consistent attendance, the diagnosis was wrong, and the plan should change or end rather than renew.

Areas we cover across Dubai

For a Business Management student, the practical effect of where you live in Dubai is two-fold: when a weekday session can start, and which organisations are close enough to approach for primary research. Below are the communities the enquiries come from, with both in mind.

Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and DIFC

Apartment living with short school runs and an unusual advantage for this subject: a dense concentration of small businesses, head offices and service firms within walking distance, which makes a primary-research interview genuinely arrangeable rather than theoretical.

Al Barsha, Barsha Heights and Emirates Hills

The deepest band of Diploma provision in the emirate, where Business Management usually runs as a full class at both levels. Requests here are weighted towards the pre-released case study and towards marking, because the five units are generally covered on schedule.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Two schools inside the district and several more one interchange away, so a 4.30pm start works most days. The retail and food-service businesses at ground level in both towers clusters are the commonest subjects of research projects from this area.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

Bigger households and later bus arrivals push a realistic session start towards half past six. Smaller Diploma cohorts here sometimes mean Business Management is taught alongside another Group 3 subject by the same teacher, which shows up as thin coverage of finance and accounts.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Quoz

Short runs to several Diploma schools, and families who tend to buy ninety-minute sessions because a timed paper and its read-back will not fit into sixty minutes. The Al Quoz industrial and creative district next door is useful for an operations-focused project.

Arabian Ranches, The Springs and Motor City

Inland communities where the school run can take forty minutes each way at the wrong hour, which is why online tuition was normal here before it was normal elsewhere. Weekend morning sessions are more popular in this band than anywhere else in Dubai.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

The Al Barsha and Emirates Hills Diploma band

Where Business Management is most reliably offered at both levels with a dedicated teacher. Families in this band usually want case-study preparation and marked papers rather than content teaching, and they tend to start asking in the first term of DP2 once the case study has arrived.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the deadline and the project status

The first message that helps names the level, the school's next internal deadline, whether the pre-released case study has arrived, and whether the research project has a question yet. Those four facts determine the plan and therefore the total. Without them any quote is an hourly rate with no end date attached to it.

  2. 02

A free diagnostic hour that produces something you can read

The first lesson is free, one per student, with no card details taken. It ends with a marked piece of work: one timed extended response, marked against the band descriptors, with the command term identified and the rung the answer stopped at named. That shows whether you are buying content, technique or structure.

  3. 03

A written plan with hours, sessions and a total

You get the plan in writing: which component first, how many sessions, how many minutes each, whether marking sits inside the rate, and what the whole thing comes to. Compare that total against the published bands in the first table on this page. A plan without a total is not something you can evaluate.

  4. 04

Monthly review, with stopping treated as a normal outcome

Each month brings the marked work and a short written note on what moved and what did not. If the marks are flat after six weeks of consistent attendance, the diagnosis was wrong, and the plan changes or ends. Stopping costs nothing beyond the sessions already taught, and no package locks you in.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Plans with totals, not open-ended hourly arrangements

Every plan we propose states the number of sessions, the length in minutes and the total, so it can be compared against the AED bands the Dubai market publishes. Three of the six pages competing for this search publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which makes any comparison impossible before you commit.

The research project treated as a costed component

A substantial share of this grade sits in one independent investigation, and plans that quietly cover only the written papers leave it outside the arrangement you paid for. Project supervision is priced as milestones because projects move in bursts, and a weekly slot bills you for the quiet weeks in between.

Marking stated before you pay, not implied

Reading a Business Management data-response script properly takes a tutor twenty-five to forty minutes. Whether that happens between sessions, during them, or not at all is the largest hidden variable in a Dubai tutoring invoice, so we settle it in writing in the first conversation rather than in month two.

Online delivery, which widens the pool rather than the postcode

There are no home visits in the UAE. The practical gain is selection: a family in Motor City is choosing among everyone who teaches Higher Level Business Management at seven in the evening, instead of among those willing to drive inland at that hour for an AED 180 to 350 in-home rate.

A written boundary on what a tutor will not do

The research project is the student's own work. We teach method, read drafts against the criteria and ask the questions a moderator would ask. We do not supply text, select the organisation or rework a draft to completion, and we put that in writing, because the providers selling the alternative are selling your child a malpractice finding.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Is it cheaper to buy Business Management support in DP1 or wait for the DP2 mock results?+

DP1, by a wide margin, and the saving is in hours rather than in the hourly rate. A DP1 maintenance plan is typically twelve to eighteen hours across two years, because a unit closed in the week it is taught takes about two hours. The same unit rebuilt after the mocks takes four or five, alongside five other subjects competing for the same evenings, and usually at two sessions a week. At the AED 200 to 450 specialist band published for Dubai, that is the difference between roughly AED 2,400 to 8,100 and AED 4,000 to 12,600 for a smaller movement.

How many hours does supervising a business research project usually take?+

Three to five sessions, if they are spent in the right places. The first and most valuable tests whether the research question can be answered with data the student can actually obtain, which is where most projects fail. The second covers method and the organisation's cooperation. The third reads a draft against each criterion with the descriptor open. A fourth and fifth tighten structure and the judgement. Booked as milestones rather than as a weekly slot, because projects move in bursts around school deadlines and a standing weekly session pays for the quiet weeks in between.

Which command terms carry the most marks in a Business Management paper?+

The evaluative ones, and they are where mid-band scripts stop a rung short. Define and describe questions are small and should be answered briefly. Apply questions require the theory tied explicitly to the named organisation in the stimulus. Analyse questions need a chain of consequence with a because in it. Discuss needs both sides. Evaluate needs both sides plus a judgement that follows from the weight of argument and refers to the organisation's own objectives. A student who writes well but never climbs the last rung will score consistently in the middle across every long question on the paper.

Can my child use a Dubai company for the research project?+

Yes, and local access is one of the real advantages of studying here. The deciding factor is data rather than interest. A family-owned business with a cooperative contact gives primary interview material and internal detail. A company listed on a UAE exchange gives published accounts that support ratio analysis without needing anyone's permission. A regional office of a multinational is usually impenetrable to a student email. Settle what may be published and what must be anonymised in writing before any interview takes place, because a project built on data the owner later withdraws cannot be rescued near a deadline.

Does a free-zone startup work as the subject of a research project?+

Access is often excellent and financial history is often the problem. Founders in free zones tend to answer emails, explain decisions candidly and give a student more detail than a large company ever would, which makes the method section strong. What they frequently cannot provide is two or three years of comparable figures, so any question requiring trend or ratio analysis collapses. Test that before committing: ask what financial information exists, for how many years, and in what form. If the answer is one incomplete year, keep the organisation and change the question to something qualitative that the available evidence can support.

What primary data can a Dubai student realistically collect from a business?+

Interviews with one or two decision-makers, a short structured questionnaire to staff or customers where the organisation permits it, observation of a process, and internal documents the owner agrees to share. What students usually cannot get is anything commercially sensitive, anything about identifiable individuals without consent, or anything from a company whose regional office never replies. Plan for a response rate far below what the student expects and build the question around the data they will definitely have rather than the data they hope for. Consent, anonymisation and the date of collection all belong in the method section.

Business Management or Economics for a student heading to a business degree?+

Most business, management and marketing degrees accept either and care more about the overall points total, so choose on fit rather than on prestige. Economics is more analytical and diagrammatic with a stronger mathematical flavour; Business Management is more applied, case-based and carries an independent research project. Quantitative economics degrees usually specify a mathematics course rather than the Group 3 subject, commonly Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Read the published entry requirements for the specific universities on your child's list, then use a diagnostic hour in each subject to settle the preference with marked work rather than opinion.

What extra content does Higher Level Business Management add?+

Additional content inside several of the five units, further tools in the management toolkit that Standard Level candidates do not meet, and a longer, more demanding written response to the pre-released case study. Confirm the current structure and weightings in the IB subject guide at ibo.org rather than relying on any tutoring page. In tutoring terms, Higher Level typically needs two to four extra hours per unit where the extension content is examined, and the case-study block grows from about four sessions to six and needs to start earlier. The research project component is the same, with a higher expectation of depth in the judgement.

Do we pay more for a tutor who has marked Business Management papers?+

Usually yes, and it is worth it for one job rather than all of them. Someone fluent in the band descriptors is valuable when the problem is technique: a marked script that names the rung the answer stopped at is worth several sessions of general teaching. For closing a gap in finance and accounts, that premium buys nothing extra. Note also the caution on examiner claims: nobody should describe a tutor as a current IB examiner without evidence, and examiner status must never be presented as access to marking, boundaries or unseen paper content. Ask what they have marked and when.

How do we compare a per-session fee with a monthly block in Dubai?+

Convert both to a cost per sixty minutes of teaching, then add what is missing. Monthly online blocks advertised in the emirate sit around AED 799 for eight sessions, and in-home blocks at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Neither usually states whether marking between sessions is included, whether unused sessions roll over, or what notice cancellation needs. Ask those three questions in writing. A block is good value for continuous DP1 consolidation and poor value for project supervision, because project work clusters around deadlines and a monthly block bills you for the gaps.

Why does my child write long answers in Business Management and still score 4?+

Almost always the command term rather than the content. Long answers that describe when the question said evaluate, or that explain a theory correctly without connecting it to the named organisation, sit in the middle band however fluent they are. The diagnosis takes one marked script: if the content is accurate and the structure is orderly, the problem is the rung the answer stopped at. The fix is three or four sessions of the same stem answered under two different command terms and compared against the descriptors, plus a marked timed paper between each session to check the habit is transferring.

What should a Business Management diagnostic lesson actually produce?+

A marked piece of work you can read, not a conversation about your child's potential. Ask for one timed extended response, sat before the session and marked before it starts, returned with the command term identified, the band stated, the rung the answer stopped at named, and three specific corrections. A specialist produces that in the free first lesson. A generalist offers encouraging comments and a package. The marked script also tells you which of the three purchases you are actually making, which is the only way to judge whether a quoted total is reasonable.

Does the tutor need to have worked with the pre-released case study before?+

Not that specific case, which is new each time, but they should have prepared candidates for one. The skill is a process: building a stakeholder map, pulling the numbers out of the appendices, deciding which tools the case genuinely invites rather than listing all of them, and rehearsing the extended response with the case open under timed conditions. Ask how they would spend the first two sessions after the case reaches the school. Someone who has done it answers concretely and immediately. Someone who has not will talk about reading it carefully, which is not a method.

Which evenings are actually free in a Dubai Year 12 week?+

Fewer than parents assume, and the arithmetic is worth doing before buying a weekly slot. Every private school in Dubai teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies alongside its licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring these arrangements from the start of the 2025-26 academic year and calculating the time on a 40-minute lesson unit. Add six Diploma subjects, the core, travel, and any sport or service commitment. Most households end up with one usable weekday evening and part of a weekend. Plans built on two weekday sessions in such a week are abandoned within a month, and the missed sessions are money gone.

What should we ask about a tutor's permit before paying?+

Ask directly whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. A legitimate tutor knows what it is, knows it costs nothing, and answers plainly. Anyone who says tutoring is not really regulated here, or quotes a permit fee, has told you how they treat other rules. Also check approval claims: no provider should describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson without holding the specific permit and being able to show the number.

Can one tutor cover Business Management and an Extended Essay written in it?+

Often, and it can be efficient, but check the fit rather than assuming it. An Extended Essay in business and management is a research task with its own criteria, word limit and supervisor at the school, and the school's supervisor remains the person responsible for the process. A tutor who teaches the subject well can help a student sharpen a research question, understand what the criteria reward and read a draft critically. They must not write any part of it or construct the argument. Confirm the current requirements with the school's coordinator, and keep the supervisor informed about any outside support.

Price the plan, then decide whether to buy it

If your child sits Business Management at a Dubai school, ask for a plan with a total on it rather than an hourly rate. Tell us the level, the next internal deadline, whether the pre-released case study has arrived and whether the research project has a question yet. The free first lesson produces a marked extended response with the band and the missing rung named, which is what tells you whether you are buying content, technique or structure. One free lesson per student, no card details taken. Lessons run live and one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time; there are no home visits in the UAE, and that service runs only in India.
