IGCSE Maths Tutor in Umm Suqeim

Hiring an IGCSE maths tutor in Umm Suqeim is a two-year spending decision, so this page starts with the money. Dubai rates, cheapest band first, with every figure attributed to whoever published it. Then the tier decision between Core and Extended, the difference between Cambridge 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1, and the five places families in this neighbourhood reliably waste money. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free.

IB & IGCSE in Umm Suqeim

What two years of IGCSE maths support actually costs, and what it buys

Most pages about tutoring in Dubai either hide the price or quote one in a currency nobody here transacts in. This one starts with the number, because for an Umm Suqeim family the decision is not really about an hourly rate. It is about whether a recurring monthly cost running from Year 10 into the June or November examination series is worth what it returns, and that question cannot be answered without the figures on the table.

The cheapest end of the Dubai market is advertised from roughly AED 45 an hour. EdFlik publishes rates from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, as read on their own pages in October 2026. A qualified subject tutor working online sits broadly AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. An in-home one-to-one visit with travel included is quoted at AED 180-500, Bestimate's own band being AED 180-350. Specialist IGCSE and IB tutors run AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and at the premium end BartyED publishes AED 650 an hour. Those are market rates, published by those organisations, and not a price list of ours.

Turned into a monthly figure, which is the figure that matters, Bestimate's own Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement are roughly AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages seen in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Over two academic years a mid-market weekly hour is therefore a five-figure commitment in dirhams, which deserves to be planned rather than drifted into.

What the money buys varies enormously, and that variance is the real subject of this page. At the budget band you are usually paying for homework supervision and reteaching of material the student half-remembers. In the middle band you are paying for somebody who knows the syllabus and can plan a term. At the specialist band you are paying for paper technique, tier judgement and the ability to look at a marked script and say which four topics are costing the most. Families waste money by buying the wrong band for the problem they actually have, not by buying too cheaply.

Delivery here is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The in-home band quoted above is a market figure, included because the gap between it and the online band is the clearest cost on this page, and because an Umm Suqeim family is entitled to see what the travel premium is before deciding whether to pay it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Umm Suqeim family can meet three different mathematics structures in the years before sixteen, and each carries a different kind of cost. The British route to IGCSE is examined externally. The Middle Years Programme is not. A-Level and the Diploma then diverge again at sixteen.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE Mathematics

Two years ending in externally marked papers in a June or November series, reported on the 9-1 scale at most UAE centres. Candidates are entered at one of two tiers, Core or Extended with Cambridge and Foundation or Higher with Pearson Edexcel, and the tier caps the achievable grade. There is no coursework in the main mathematics syllabuses, so the entire grade rests on the written papers.

The British curriculum is the largest in Dubai by enrolment, and most schools serving Umm Suqeim run IGCSE at sixteen before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. The cost consequence is that tutoring here concentrates in Year 11 when it should start in Year 10, because the tier decision is usually taken in the first half of Year 11 and a tier set too low is the most expensive mistake available on this page. Once entries are made, changing them is a matter for the school's examinations officer.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Reported against four criteria on eight-point bands rather than by percentage, with no public examination at the end. Some schools run the Middle Years Programme to Year 11 and enter students for IGCSE in parallel, which produces a student working to two different assessment languages at once and a parent reading two incompatible reports.

Several schools in the Jumeirah and Al Sufouh corridor offer the Middle Years Programme alongside, or instead of, IGCSE. For a family budgeting tutoring, the relevant difference is that there is no past paper to practise against, so hours bought for a Middle Years student should be spent on criterion-specific writing and investigation skills. Paying specialist examination-technique rates for a student with no examination is a clean example of buying the wrong band.

A Level / DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Post-16 routes after IGCSE

After IGCSE, schools in this corridor offer A Level mathematics, the IB Diploma's Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation courses, or both. Entry to the harder post-16 options generally depends on the IGCSE grade and the tier it was earned at, which is why the Year 10 tier conversation has consequences three years out.

An Umm Suqeim student entered on the Core or Foundation tier and capped around grade 5 will find several post-16 mathematics routes closed, including A Level mathematics at most schools and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. That is the real price of a cautious tier entry, and it is why a marked Extended paper in Year 10 is worth more than a term of general tutoring in Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What an IGCSE maths tutor is actually teaching depends on the syllabus code on the entry form. Below are the mathematics syllabuses most often met in Dubai schools plus the subjects whose grades move with mathematical fluency, because a family paying for two subjects separately is sometimes paying twice for one problem.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The most widely entered mathematics syllabus in Dubai. Core and Extended are examined on separate paper pairs, and since the 2025 syllabus revision each tier pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper. The non-calculator paper is where years of calculator dependence surface, and it is the cheapest thing to fix early and the most expensive to fix in April.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two written papers per tier, each two hours and worth 100 marks, with a calculator permitted throughout. Candidates used to a non-calculator paper find the arithmetic less exposed here and the question length more demanding. Confirm the tier and paper codes on the entry list rather than assuming, because schools in this corridor run both boards.

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607

Core and Extended

A distinct syllabus often used by schools that run the Middle Years Programme or feed the IB Diploma, with a graphics calculator assumed and a different paper structure from 0580. Preparation material written for 0580 is only partly transferable, and a tutor who does not know which of the two a student sits will waste paid hours on the wrong practice.

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 Extended by stronger Year 11 students, covering calculus, functions and trigonometry at a level closer to AS. It is a genuinely different course rather than more of the same, and students entered for it without a secure Extended foundation lose marks on both syllabuses at once.

Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics

Single tier

The Pearson counterpart to Additional Mathematics, used in some Dubai schools as a bridge into A Level mathematics. Useful for a student heading towards Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level or A Level Further Mathematics, and expensive to tutor without a firm grasp of Higher tier algebra first.

IGCSE Physics

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0625 and Edexcel 4PH1

The science most tightly coupled to mathematics. Students losing physics marks on rearrangement, graph gradients, standard form and unit algebra are losing mathematics marks in a physics costume, and an hour of algebra often lifts both grades at once.

IGCSE Chemistry

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0620 and Edexcel 4CH1

Moles, concentrations, yields and titration arithmetic are where chemistry marks concentrate for able students who dislike calculation. Proportional reasoning taught properly in a maths hour reappears as chemistry marks, which is the cheapest cross-subject win available at this level.

IGCSE Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455, Edexcel equivalents

Break-even, ratio analysis, index numbers and percentage change are the quantitative parts of both courses and the parts Umm Suqeim students most often concede. The arithmetic belongs in a maths hour; the explanation belongs in the subject lesson.

IGCSE Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 and Edexcel 4CP0

Number bases, binary arithmetic, logic gates and algorithm tracing read as mathematics with different vocabulary. A student who can reason through a sequence in a maths lesson will trace pseudocode, and the two subjects are often worth planning in the same week.

Middle Years Programme Mathematics

Standard and Extended, Years 9-11

Marked against four criteria on eight-point bands with no terminal examination. The useful hours here go on criterion B, investigating patterns, where generalisation and justification are rewarded rather than correct arithmetic, and where strong procedural students are first found out.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements an Umm Suqeim family can buy, set out with their cost logic rather than their marketing. All are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

One weekly hour across two years

The arrangement with the lowest total cost per grade moved, because it starts in Year 10 when the tier is still open and the syllabus is still being met for the first time. Spread over two years it is a modest monthly line in a household budget; compressed into Year 11 the same number of hours costs more and achieves less.

  • Starts in Year 10, before the tier entry is decided
  • Lowest total cost for the grade movement it produces
  • Teaching runs ahead of the class rather than repairing it
  • Reviewed each term, with stopping treated as a legitimate outcome

A targeted block before a series

Eight to twelve hours in the run-up to the June or November papers, bought after a marked mock script has identified where the marks are actually going. This is the best value short arrangement available and the worst value one if it is bought without the script, because without it the hours go on whatever the student mentions first.

  • Begins with a timed past paper, marked against the published scheme
  • Content chosen by the script, not by the student's sense of difficulty
  • Heavy on method writing, question recognition and time management
  • Finite by design, with an agreed end date

A single diagnostic hour

One session, one marked paper, one written verdict on tier and topics. Families use it to decide whether to buy anything at all, and it is the cheapest way to avoid the two expensive errors on this page: paying specialist rates for a supervision problem, and accepting a Core or Foundation entry that a marked Extended script does not justify.

  • A timed paper at the tier in question, properly marked
  • A written note naming the four topics costing the most marks
  • A view on tier that the school can be shown
  • No obligation to book anything afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Suqeim

01

What an IGCSE maths tutor in Umm Suqeim costs, cheapest band first

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. That is why the table below exists: it sets out what Dubai providers have actually published, in dirhams, cheapest band first, with the organisation that published each figure named and the month the page was read.

Read it as a map of what you are buying rather than a league table. The bottom band buys attention and supervision, which is genuinely what some students need and is a waste for others. The middle band buys subject knowledge and a term plan. The specialist band buys tier judgement and paper technique, which is the thing that moves a grade in the final six months. The premium band buys reputation, and reputation should be evidenced before it is paid for.

The gap worth staring at is between the online qualified band and the in-home band. Roughly AED 150-300 against roughly AED 180-500, and most of the difference is the cost of a person crossing Dubai at six in the evening rather than any difference in teaching. For a household in Umm Suqeim 2 or Pearl Jumeira that premium is real money every week for two years, and the thing it buys is presence in the room.

One practical warning about comparing quotes. Ask whether a rate is per clock hour or per lesson, because a fifty-minute lesson priced as an hour raises the real cost by a sixth without changing the headline. Ask what happens to a cancelled session and who absorbs it. Ask whether the figure includes materials, and remember that no legitimate tutor can supply board past papers or mark schemes as downloads, so a materials charge should be for the tutor's own written work.

The tier decision is a money decision as much as a grades decision

Core or Extended with Cambridge, Foundation or Higher with Pearson Edexcel. This is the most consequential and least discussed decision in IGCSE mathematics, and it is usually taken in Year 10 or early Year 11 on the basis of classroom performance rather than a marked paper. For a family budgeting tutoring it is also where the largest sum of money is quietly at stake.

The lower tier caps the grade, usually around a 5. For a student who will not reach that ceiling anyway, entry at the lower tier is sensible and protective: the paper is accessible, the student earns marks rather than staring at questions, and confidence survives. For a student who could reach a 6 or 7 with support, the same entry closes A Level mathematics at most schools and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and no amount of tutoring afterwards reopens them.

So the cost arithmetic runs the other way from how families usually see it. Buying a single diagnostic hour in Year 10, with a timed Extended or Higher paper marked properly, costs one hour at any band on the table above. Accepting a cautious entry and then paying for a post-16 resit, a bridging course or a changed subject plan costs considerably more. The cheap purchase is the early one, and it is cheap precisely because it is early.

Tier entries are made by the school and changed by the school's examinations officer within the board's deadlines. A tutor's legitimate role is to produce evidence a school can read: a marked script, a mark breakdown by topic, and a clear statement of what the student can currently do under time. That is a conversation with the department, not a complaint, and it goes considerably better when it happens in Year 10.

03

Cambridge 0580 against Edexcel 4MA1, and why the board changes the plan

Schools serving Umm Suqeim run both boards, sometimes in the same building for different cohorts, and the two examine mathematics differently enough that practice written for one is only partly useful for the other. A family paying for hours should know which code is on the entry form before the first lesson, not after the first mock.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper in each tier since the 2025 syllabus revision. That non-calculator paper is a specific discipline: fractions, surds, standard form and algebraic manipulation done cleanly by hand, under time. Students who have spent four years typing expressions into a handset meet it late and lose marks to arithmetic rather than to method.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, syllabus 4MA1, runs two written papers per tier, each two hours and worth 100 marks, with a calculator permitted throughout. The arithmetic is therefore less exposed and the question length more demanding, and preparation shifts towards sustaining accuracy across a long paper and towards using the calculator efficiently rather than towards manual manipulation.

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 is a third syllabus, common in schools that also run the Middle Years Programme or feed the IB Diploma, with a graphics calculator assumed and its own paper structure. Because syllabuses are revised, the only safe method is to read the current syllabus document on the board's own site for the series your child will sit, and to link it rather than to rely on a summary. Any tutor who cannot tell you which code they are teaching to is guessing with your hours.

Five ways IGCSE maths money gets wasted in this catchment

  • Buying the specialist band for a supervision problem, or the budget band for a technique problem
  • Starting in April rather than in Year 10, so hours go on patching instead of teaching
  • Paying a tutor to repeat the school's lesson a week later
  • Group classes chosen on headline price and pitched at the middle of the room
  • A travel premium paid by default rather than because presence is what is needed

Waste here is rarely dramatic. It looks like a reasonable arrangement that quietly returns nothing, and it is usually one of five patterns. Naming them is more useful than any amount of reassurance, because each one is avoidable by a decision rather than by spending more.

The first is buying the wrong band. A student whose problem is that nobody checks their homework does not need an examination specialist at the top of the table, and a Year 11 candidate three months from a series does not need a patient supervisor. The second is starting too late. The same twenty hours bought across Year 10 and Year 11 produce more than twenty hours bought in April, because content can still be taught properly rather than patched.

The third is paying for reteaching that the school is already doing. A tutor who covers the same lesson the class covered, a week behind, is adding repetition rather than teaching, and repetition is the cheapest thing in a student's life to arrange for free. The fourth is group classes bought on price. A group of six at a third of the one-to-one rate looks like value until the content is pitched for the middle of the room, at which point a stronger student is paying to be bored and a weaker one is paying to be lost.

The fifth is the travel premium paid without thinking. The published in-home band runs to AED 500 an hour against AED 150-300 for a qualified tutor online, and for many Umm Suqeim households the premium buys a commute rather than a better mathematician. It is a reasonable thing to buy if presence in the room is what the student needs; it is pure cost if it is simply the arrangement that was assumed.

05

A two-year IGCSE maths budget for an Umm Suqeim household, written out

Families plan tutoring in hourly rates and pay for it monthly, which is how a reasonable decision becomes an unexamined standing order. The table below converts the published bands into the shapes families actually buy, so the total is visible before the first lesson rather than after the twentieth.

The figures are derived arithmetic on published market bands, not an IB Gram price list and not a quote. They assume roughly thirty-six teaching weeks in a Dubai school year, which is why a weekly hour comes out near nine hours a term. Term structures differ between schools in this corridor, so treat the row shapes as the useful part and recalculate the totals against whatever rate you are actually offered.

Context helps as well. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A household whose school fees are flat for a year has a clearer view of what a tutoring line can absorb, and that is a better moment to plan two years of support than the week before a mock.

The last row is the one most families never price. Entering as a private candidate, resitting a paper in a later series, or bridging into a post-16 course that a capped tier closed are all real costs with real administrative steps, and they are the costs that a single early diagnostic hour is competing against. Seen that way, the cheapest line in the table is the first one.

Where IGCSE maths marks leak, and which leaks are cheap to fix

  • Cheapest: writing method so method marks are earned rather than declined
  • Cheap: recognising which method a question's phrasing is asking for
  • Mid-price: rearrangement, algebraic fractions, indices and standard form
  • Mid-price: choosing the quadratic method the question implies
  • Expensive: number sense and fraction fluency carried forward from Year 7

A marked script is the only honest basis for spending money on this subject, because marks do not leak evenly. They leak in a small number of recognisable places, and some of those places are far cheaper to repair than others. Knowing which is which is how a family buys ten useful hours instead of thirty vague ones.

The cheapest repair is method writing. Examiners award method marks for a correct approach even when the final answer is wrong, and a student who writes only answers forfeits every one of them. This is a habit, not a knowledge gap, and it responds to a handful of marking sessions. The second cheapest is question recognition: knowing that a particular phrasing wants a ratio method, or that a worded problem is a simultaneous equation in disguise. That too is pattern exposure rather than new content.

The mid-price repairs are the standard algebra leaks. Rearranging formulae with the subject appearing twice. Fractions in algebraic form. Indices and standard form under time. Solving quadratics by the method the question implies rather than the one the student prefers. Each of these takes a few weeks of short regular practice and each reappears across several papers, which is why they are good value.

The expensive repairs are the structural ones. A student who does not have secure number sense, or who cannot handle fractions without a calculator, is carrying a gap from Year 7 into a Year 11 paper, and that is months of work rather than weeks. The honest thing to say to a family in April is that this gap cannot be closed before a June series, and that the useful plan is to secure the marks that are reachable rather than to pretend otherwise.

07

The June and November series, counted backwards from an Umm Suqeim diary

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so any plan built around it is built on the wrong calendar for a Dubai family. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are likewise available in May and June and again in November.

The important structural fact is that entry deadlines sit months before the papers, and they are administered by the school rather than by the family. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November results reach students in January, with the November 2025 results having landed on 22 January 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Those are the published dates for those series, and they are the right shape to plan against.

Cambridge adds a trap worth knowing. Every examination centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. That is the school's responsibility to administer, but it is the reason a parent should take dates from the school's own entry letter rather than from a general timetable found online.

Because provisional timetables are published ahead of each series and can be revised, the only safe method is to work from the live official timetable on the board's own site and from the school's entry confirmation. A tutoring plan that counts backwards from a confirmed paper date is worth considerably more than one that counts forward from today, and the counting backwards is where a mock script, a targeted block and a final technique phase fall into their natural order.

08

Is the person you are paying permitted to tutor in Dubai?

  • The MoHRE private tutor permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Eligibility covers school teachers, employees, students and unemployed residents
  • No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you
  • A KHDA training-institute permit applies to premises, not to individual tutors
  • A child's own classroom teacher should be treated as off limits

This is a cost question as well as a legal one, because an arrangement that cannot continue is money spent on a relationship with no term. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and MoHRE's own service page lists it as private tutor licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system.

The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because the permit carries no fee, any tutor who cites permit costs as a reason for a higher rate is describing something else. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted to you either.

A separate regime applies to anything with premises and staff. A tutoring operation running a centre in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested ahead of expiry. That is a specific permit issued to institutions, and no individual tutor and no online platform should describe themselves as approved by KHDA on the strength of it. IB Gram does not hold it and does not claim it.

There is also a conflict-of-interest rule worth knowing before a family hires a teacher from their own child's school. The permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their school. Treat your child's own classroom teacher as off limits and ask the school if in doubt.

09

Starting, pausing and stopping without wasting money

The first hour is free and it exists to produce a decision rather than a relationship. A useful trial lesson ends with a short written note naming what is secure, what is not, which tier the evidence supports, and which three or four topics are costing the most marks. If what comes back is encouragement without specifics, you have learned something useful at no cost and you should stop there.

Tell us the syllabus code if you know it and the school and year group if you do not. Cambridge 0580 Extended, Edexcel 4MA1 Higher and Cambridge 0607 are three different requests, and a request that says only IGCSE maths takes longer to match because the matching has to be redone once the code is known. Tell us the hour your child is genuinely home and settled, measured rather than hoped for, because a slot that starts late every week is a slot you are part-funding for nothing.

Pausing is normal and should cost nothing. Travel weeks, mock fortnights, Ramadan and the examination period itself all change what a household can absorb, and a sensible arrangement pauses rather than limps. Stopping should be equally easy: there is no minimum term, and a term review that concludes the hour is no longer earning its place is a successful review, not a failed one.

On availability, we state the limit rather than imply none. There are hours in a Dubai evening when every specialist in a narrow subject is already teaching, and the alternatives are then put to you plainly: a different hour with the tutor you want, the hour you want with a tutor who is strong but less specialised, or a place in the queue. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not provide in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, so you will never be quoted the travel premium this page has spent so long describing.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Umm Suqeim

The notes below are about cost and logistics rather than scenery, because those are what differ between one Umm Suqeim street and the next when a weekly tutoring hour has to be paid for and kept.

Umm Suqeim 1

Nearest the city end of Beach Road, with short runs to Jumeirah College and Jumeirah English Speaking School. Short commutes mean an earlier slot is affordable in time terms, which matters because evening hours are the ones in shortest supply and therefore the hardest to secure.

Umm Suqeim 2

The middle strip between Beach Road and Al Wasl. Arrival times here are the least predictable in the neighbourhood, so a family booking a 4.30pm slot often pays for lessons that start late and end on time, which is a quiet way to lose a sixth of what you buy.

Umm Suqeim 3

The western end bordering Al Sufouh, with schools inside the community. Students at a school within walking or minutes' driving distance can genuinely use a four o'clock slot, which is usually easier to book and therefore easier to hold for two years.

Al Safa

Jumeirah Baccalaureate School and Horizon English School sit here, minutes from Umm Suqeim 1. Families often run a weekend double rather than two weekday hours, which prices out at the same hourly rate but wastes less of each session on settling.

Al Manara

Inland of Al Wasl Road with quick access to Safa and Al Barsha schools. Sibling schedules rather than traffic set the slot here, and households with two IGCSE candidates should compare a staggered pair of hours against one shared session, which is cheaper and usually less effective.

Al Wasl

The corridor towards the city, convenient for the Jumeirah schools and Safa Park. Two children on one evening is the common pattern, and the practical saving comes from booking both slots with the same tutor where the subjects allow it.

Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3

Older villa plots east of Umm Suqeim feeding the same coast-road schools. Journeys are short in distance and slow in practice on a weekday, so the real arrival time should be measured for a fortnight before a slot is paid for.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Newer coastal developments with longer runs to the inland schools. These are the addresses where the in-home travel premium is largest, and therefore where the gap between the AED 180-500 in-home band and the AED 150-300 online band is most worth looking at.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Umm Suqeim

Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and the Jumeirah coast

The schools inside or minutes from the neighbourhood. Between them they run both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel entries, which is why the first question a tutor should ask is the syllabus code rather than the year group.

  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Safa British School, Al Safa
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim 3
  • Raffles International School, Umm Suqeim
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Al Safa

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and the inland ring

The inland schools taking a large share of Umm Suqeim 3 children. Commutes from these gates are the longest in the catchment, which pushes slots later and makes an evening hour more valuable than a mid-afternoon one.

  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School, Al Barsha
  • GEMS Metropole School

Schools are named as the educational context of this neighbourhood; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or commercial relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code and the real arrival time

Cambridge 0580, Edexcel 4MA1 or Cambridge 0607, the tier if it is set, and the hour your child is actually home and settled. If you do not know the code, send the school and year group and we will establish it before matching anybody to the slot.

  2. 02

A free diagnostic lesson with a marked paper

One hour with the tutor who would teach the weekly slot, built around a timed paper at the relevant tier. It ends with a written note on tier, on the topics costing the most marks, and on whether paid hours are the right purchase at all.

  3. 03

Agree the shape and the total before the first invoice

Weekly across two years, a targeted block before a series, or nothing further. The number of hours, the rate per clock hour and the expected total are stated in writing first, so the monthly figure is a decision rather than a standing order nobody revisits.

  4. 04

Teach ahead, then test under conditions

Lessons run slightly ahead of the school's scheme so the class consolidates rather than confuses, and once a term the student sits a past paper under timed conditions, marked against the published scheme. The plan then follows what the script shows rather than what anyone assumed.

  5. 05

    Review the cost every term

A short conversation about what has moved, what has not, and whether the hour still earns its place in the budget. Reducing to fortnightly, pausing for a travel block, or stopping altogether are all normal outcomes and none of them requires notice.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures you can check before you talk to us

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the organisation that published it, with the month the page was read. You can sanity-check any quote in this market, including ours, against sources you can open yourself rather than against an assurance.

Matched to the syllabus code, not to the year group

Cambridge 0580 Extended and Edexcel 4MA1 Higher are examined differently, and practice written for one is only partly useful for the other. A tutor is proposed because they teach the code on your child's entry form.

Tier evidence a school can read

A marked timed script with a topic-by-topic mark breakdown, produced early enough to inform the entry decision. That is a document a mathematics department can act on, and it is worth more than an opinion delivered in April.

No travel premium, because nobody travels

The published in-home band runs to AED 500 an hour against AED 150-300 for a qualified tutor online, and most of that gap is a commute. Teaching over live video removes the premium and widens the pool of tutors who teach your exact syllabus.

No minimum term and no package pressure

Hours are bought in the shape the evidence supports. Pausing for travel or examinations costs nothing, stopping needs no notice, and a term review that ends the arrangement is treated as a result rather than a problem.

Limits disclosed before you commit

When no specialist is free at the hour you want, we say so and set out the alternatives honestly. Nobody is matched on the grounds of being available, because that failure only surfaces when a mock script comes back in the spring.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Suqeim: your questions answered

How much should an Umm Suqeim family budget per month for IGCSE maths tutoring?+

Bestimate's published Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement run roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, as read in October 2026. Market packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are market figures rather than ours. The useful exercise is to multiply whatever rate you are offered by the number of teaching weeks in your school's year before agreeing to it.

Is a cheaper tutor at AED 45 an hour a false economy for IGCSE maths?+

Not automatically. If the problem is that nobody sits with your child while they work, the budget band does that job and does it for a fifth of specialist money. It becomes a false economy when the problem is paper technique, tier judgement or a topic-level diagnosis from a marked script, because those need somebody who knows the syllabus and the mark scheme. The error families make is not buying cheap; it is buying the wrong band for the problem they actually have, in either direction.

Does the Core tier cap my child's IGCSE maths grade?+

Yes. Core with Cambridge and Foundation with Pearson Edexcel both cap the achievable grade, generally around a 5. For a student who would not reach that ceiling anyway the lower tier is protective, because the paper is accessible and marks are earned rather than stared at. For a student capable of a 6 or 7 it closes A Level mathematics at most schools and Higher Level Diploma mathematics, and tutoring afterwards does not reopen them. Settle it with a timed higher-tier paper, marked properly, in Year 10.

Which IGCSE maths syllabus is my child entered for, and does it change the tutoring?+

It changes it substantially, and the entry form is the only reliable source. Cambridge 0580 pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator paper in each tier since the 2025 revision, so manual manipulation matters. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 runs two two-hour papers of 100 marks each with a calculator throughout, so sustained accuracy and calculator efficiency matter more. Cambridge 0607 International Mathematics assumes a graphics calculator and has its own structure. Ask the school for the code and read the current syllabus on the board's own site.

Is it cheaper to put two of my children in one tutoring session?+

It is cheaper per child and usually less effective, which is the honest answer. Two students at different stages share an hour pitched between them, so one is revisiting and the other is behind for most of the lesson. Where it does work is two children at genuinely the same point in the same syllabus, revising together before a series. For ordinary teaching, two staggered half-length slots generally return more per dirham than one shared hour, and the arithmetic is worth doing before booking.

Why is an in-home maths tutor in Dubai more expensive than an online one?+

Because you are buying a commute as well as an hour of teaching. Published Dubai bands put in-home one-to-one at AED 180-500 including travel, with Bestimate quoting AED 180-350, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The difference is largely the cost of someone crossing the city in evening traffic, not a difference in subject knowledge. It buys presence in the room, which some students genuinely need. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, so the premium is not something we can quote.

When should we start paying for IGCSE maths support, Year 10 or Year 11?+

Year 10, if the aim is value rather than reassurance. The same number of hours bought across two years produces more than the same hours compressed into the spring of Year 11, because content can still be taught properly rather than patched, and because the tier decision is still open. Twenty hours in Year 10 and Year 11 together typically moves more than thirty hours bought in April. The one good reason to start late is a targeted technique block chosen by a marked mock script.

Do IGCSE maths tutoring rates in Dubai go up before the exams?+

Demand does, which has the same effect on availability as a price rise. The weeks before a June or November series are when every specialist's evening slots fill, so the hours left are the inconvenient ones and the choice of tutor narrows to whoever is free. Families who fix a slot in the autumn keep both the hour and the person. Rather than watching for a price change, assume the scarce resource is the evening slot and book it early, because that is the thing that actually runs out.

What hidden extras show up on a Dubai tutoring invoice?+

Four recur. A lesson priced as an hour but taught for fifty minutes, which raises the real cost by a sixth. A cancellation rule that charges the family for a tutor's change of plan. A materials line, which should only ever cover a tutor's own written work, because board past papers and mark schemes cannot legitimately be supplied as downloads. And a package that bills for hours the student will not use. Ask about each before the first invoice rather than after it, and ask whether a quoted figure includes VAT.

Are group IGCSE maths classes in Al Barsha better value than one-to-one online?+

On the headline rate, yes; on cost per mark gained, usually not. A group of six is taught at the pace of the middle of the room, so a stronger student pays to revisit material and a weaker one pays to fall behind quietly. Groups work where the content is genuinely common, for instance a timed-paper clinic in the last month before a series. For teaching new algebra to a specific student with a specific gap, the one-to-one hour is the thing that does the work.

Which exam series will my child in Dubai sit for Cambridge IGCSE maths?+

June or November. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those. The February and March series is offered to India only, so a plan built around it is built on the wrong calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations run in May and June and again in November. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers and are administered by the school, so take your dates from the school's entry confirmation and the board's live official timetable.

Does a maths tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE permit, and does it add to the fee?+

A permit is required and it adds nothing to the fee, because it is free. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule. Any tutor citing permit costs in a quote is describing something else.

Can we pause IGCSE maths lessons during travel or mock weeks without paying?+

Yes, and the arrangement should be built to allow it. Dubai households travel in the long breaks, mock fortnights absorb every free evening, and Ramadan reorganises the whole week. An arrangement that limps through those periods at reduced attention wastes money more quietly than one that pauses cleanly and restarts. There is no minimum term here, pausing costs nothing, and the sensible pattern is to agree the likely pause weeks at the start of the term rather than negotiating each one as it arrives.

Will tutoring help my child meet UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Tutoring is not required for equivalency and nobody should tell you otherwise. For the British track the Ministry's published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Mathematics is commonly one of the five, so a secure pass matters. Verify current requirements on the Ministry's own channel rather than through any tutor.

What should a first diagnostic hour produce for the money?+

A document, not a feeling. Expect a timed paper at the relevant tier marked against the published scheme, a mark breakdown showing which topics the marks actually went to, a clear statement on whether the current tier entry is supported by that evidence, and a recommendation on how many hours are worth buying and in what shape. If what comes back is a general sense that your child is capable and needs confidence, the hour has told you about the tutor rather than the student.
