IB MYP Tutor in Al Qusais

Finding an IB MYP tutor in Al Qusais is harder than finding a maths or science tutor, and for a reason worth knowing: MYP is assessed against criteria rather than papers, so a tutor who teaches content well can still be marking blind. This page explains what an MYP tutor has to know, how to test for it, and what we do when nobody suitable is free.

  • Matched to the subject group and the criteria, not just the subject
  • Lessons over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • Availability and fallback stated before anything is paid
  • Three tasks you can set any MYP tutor to test them

IB & IGCSE in Al Qusais

Why nobody near you seems to know MYP, and what to do about it

Parents in Al Qusais searching for MYP help usually report the same experience. There are plenty of maths tutors, plenty of science tutors, and almost nobody who can explain why a child who understands the work came home with a 4 in criterion B. The feeling that no one nearby knows this programme is accurate, and the reason is structural rather than geographic. MYP does not examine content in the way IGCSE or the Diploma does. It assesses performance against four published criteria per subject, each scored from 0 to 8, and a tutor who has never read those descriptors is guessing at what the marks are for.

That produces a specific and common failure. A competent maths graduate tutors an MYP 4 student, the student's calculation improves, the report comes back unchanged, and nobody can explain it. The usual cause is that the weak criterion was investigating patterns or communicating - generalising a rule and justifying it, or presenting reasoning so another person can follow it - and the tutoring spent ten weeks on arithmetic that was never the problem. The content help was real. It was aimed at the wrong target.

Al Qusais adds a geographic layer to this. The MYP cohorts nearest this neighbourhood sit mainly in Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City rather than in Al Qusais itself, where Indian-curriculum and British-track schools dominate. So a family here is often arranging support for a child who travels to school, in a programme that fewer schools in the catchment run, with a report format that the nearest available tutors have never seen. Searching by distance from Damascus Street is close to the worst possible filter for this particular request.

The honest answer is that MYP support should be matched by subject group and by criterion, over video, from whoever genuinely knows the programme. That pool is small but it exists, and it is far larger than the set of people who happen to live within twenty minutes of Al Nahda Road. This page sets out what an MYP tutor has to know, three tasks you can use to test one in ten minutes, how to read your child's report properly, and what the MYP-to-Diploma transition actually demands.

IB Gram delivers MYP support to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Where we cannot match a subject group and criterion properly, we say so at the match stage with the alternatives and a date rather than filling the slot with someone adjacent and letting a term pass before the next report explains the problem.

At a glance

  • MYP is criterion-assessed, not paper-assessed - four criteria per subject, 0 to 8 each
  • Content tutoring aimed at the wrong criterion changes nothing on the report
  • Send the four criterion scores, not the overall 1-7 grade
  • MYP cohorts near Al Qusais sit mainly in Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City
  • Match by subject group and criterion rather than by driving distance
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

MYP spans five years and three distinct phases, and the help a student needs is different in each. Here is what the programme asks at each stage and where the tutoring supply thins out.

MYPAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

MYP years 1 to 3

The years where criterion language is introduced and most students meet it without ever having it explained. Each subject carries four criteria scored from 0 to 8, assessed through tasks rather than tests, with key concepts, global contexts and statements of inquiry framing the units. A student can be academically strong and score mid-band simply because they do not know what the descriptors ask for.

Dubai schools vary considerably in how explicitly they teach the criteria to students. Ask to see the task-specific clarifications your child's teacher issues with an assessment: those documents are the most useful thing an Al Qusais parent can hand a tutor, and they are rarely requested.

MYPAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

MYP years 4 and 5, and the Personal Project

The stakes rise. Subject work becomes more demanding, the Personal Project arrives in the final year with its own criteria, and students on an eAssessment pathway face on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the IB MYP Certificate. Workload management becomes as much of a problem as any individual subject.

Not every MYP school in Dubai enters students for eAssessment, and whether yours does changes the final year completely. Confirm with the MYP coordinator in writing, because a student preparing for on-screen examinations needs a different final year from one assessed entirely internally.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The transition into the Diploma Programme

The largest step in an IB education and the one most MYP families underestimate. Assessment switches from criteria applied to tasks to timed written papers with mark schemes, plus internal assessments with their own criteria. Students who scored well in MYP by producing thoughtful extended work can struggle badly with a forty-five minute paper.

Several schools within reach of Al Qusais run the Diploma, and the summer between MYP 5 and Year 12 is the single best window to prepare for this change. It is also the one most often spent assuming that strong MYP grades will carry across, which they frequently do not.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

MYP help in Al Qusais is asked for by subject group, and the pattern of difficulty differs across them. These are the eight groups with what each one's criteria actually demand.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5, standard and extended

Four criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Investigating patterns is the one that surprises families - it asks a student to find a rule, express it generally and justify why it holds, which is closer to proof than to calculation.

Sciences

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Inquiring and designing is where most marks are lost: a research question that is not measurable, or a method with no controlled variable identified, caps the score regardless of how well the experiment went.

Language and literature

MYP 1-5

Analysing, organising, producing text, and using language. Students who write fluently often score mid-band on analysing because they summarise the text rather than examining how the writer produces an effect. The distinction is teachable and rarely taught explicitly.

Language acquisition

Phases 1-6

Listening, reading, speaking and writing, assessed by phase rather than by year group. A student may be in MYP 4 and phase 2 in Arabic or French, and the phase is what the criteria are applied against - a detail that confuses parents comparing their child with a classmate.

Individuals and societies

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating, and thinking critically. Thinking critically is the discriminating criterion: evaluating sources, recognising perspective and limitation, and reaching a judgement rather than presenting both sides and stopping.

Design

MYP 1-5

Inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating. The most commonly misunderstood subject in the programme, because the marks sit in the documented design process rather than in the finished product. A beautiful outcome with a thin process scores poorly.

Arts

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively, and responding. As in design, process documentation carries weight that students who judge their own work by the final piece consistently underestimate. The process journal is assessed, not decorative.

The Personal Project

MYP 5

Planning, applying skills, and reflecting, assessed against its own criteria with a process journal and a report. A tutor may teach the criteria, question a goal's feasibility, review a journal entry and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not plan it, produce it or write the report.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

MYP support divides naturally into three jobs, and they are genuinely different purchases. Most families need the first once and the second occasionally rather than a permanent weekly slot.

A criterion-translation session

One session that takes your child's last report and the teacher's task-specific clarifications and explains, criterion by criterion, what the descriptors ask for and what the student's work is missing. Many families need this once and then stop, because the problem turns out to be comprehension of the assessment rather than of the subject.

  • Built around the report and the actual task sheets
  • Produces a written list per criterion
  • Often answers a question a whole term of tutoring would not
  • Useful in any subject group

Weekly one-to-one by subject group

A fixed slot with the same tutor on Gulf Standard Time over live video, matched to the subject group and aimed at the weak criterion rather than at the syllabus. The student's own task work is annotated during the session rather than described.

  • Matched to the subject group and the criterion in question
  • Work assessed against the published descriptors
  • Slots from 15:45 to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time
  • Reviewed against the next report, not after a set number of weeks

Project checkpoints, within the honesty rules

Scheduled reviews for the Personal Project or a community project, following its criteria in order: planning, applying skills, reflecting. The student sets the goal, does the work and writes the report; the tutor interrogates feasibility, reviews the process journal and marks drafts against the descriptors.

  • Goal screened for feasibility before any work begins
  • Process journal reviewed as an assessed document, not an afterthought
  • Feedback given against the criteria by name
  • No planning, producing or report-writing on the student's behalf

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Qusais

01

What an MYP tutor has to know that a subject tutor does not

The gap is not subject knowledge. A good maths graduate knows more mathematics than an MYP 4 curriculum contains. The gap is assessment literacy, and it has four parts, each of which an MYP tutor uses in every session and a subject tutor has never encountered. The first is the criteria themselves: four per subject group, each scored from 0 to 8, with band descriptors that specify what a student must demonstrate rather than what they must know. Teaching towards a descriptor is a different activity from teaching towards a syllabus.

The second is task-specific clarification. Teachers adapt the general descriptors to a particular task, and those adapted statements are what the work is actually marked against. A tutor who has not seen them is working from the general version, which is like marking an essay against a subject outline rather than a mark scheme. These documents exist in every MYP school and almost no parent thinks to send them.

The third is the programme's conceptual framework: key concepts, related concepts, global contexts and statements of inquiry. A student asked to connect their work to a global context and who treats that as decoration loses marks that have nothing to do with the subject. A tutor who dismisses this framework as jargon will teach good content and leave those marks behind every time.

The fourth is the conversion. Raw criterion scores add to a maximum of 32 and are converted to a 1-7 grade using published grade boundaries. That means a student can lift one criterion by two marks and see no grade movement, or lift two by one mark each and move a whole grade. Knowing where a student sits inside the boundary band is what tells you whether this term's effort will show on the next report - and it is the first thing we work out.

Three tasks that show in ten minutes whether a tutor knows MYP

  • Task one: name the four criteria and the usual weak one
  • Task two: read the report and justify a priority against the grade boundary
  • Task three: mark real work against the descriptors and name the band
  • Listen for whether they ask for the task-specific clarification
  • A tutor who says they do not know MYP has given you an honest answer

Qualification lists do not distinguish between an MYP tutor and a subject tutor, so set tasks instead. Each of these takes a few minutes on a first call, requires no knowledge of the programme from you, and produces an answer you can judge. Use them on any tutor in Dubai, ours included.

Task one: name the four criteria for my child's subject group, and tell me which one is usually weakest for students at this level. A tutor who knows the programme answers immediately and specifically - investigating patterns in mathematics, inquiring and designing in sciences, analysing in language and literature, thinking critically in individuals and societies. A tutor who does not will talk about topics or about the student's general ability instead, which is the answer you are listening for.

Task two: here is my child's last report with the criterion scores. What would you work on first and why? The right answer references the conversion - which criterion, lifted by how much, would move the overall grade given where the raw total sits. A weaker answer picks the lowest number without reference to the boundary, which is sometimes right by accident and is not reasoning.

Task three: here is a piece of my child's work and the task sheet. Mark it against the descriptors and tell me which band it sits in. This is the decisive one. A tutor who has done it before asks for the task-specific clarification before answering, gives a band with a reason, and names what would be needed to reach the next one. A tutor who has not will offer encouragement, correct the content, and avoid the band question entirely.

03

Reading an MYP report properly, and why the overall grade misleads

An MYP report gives four criterion scores per subject, each out of 8, and an overall grade from 1 to 7. Parents in Al Qusais comparing their child with a cousin at a British-curriculum school naturally focus on the overall grade, and that is the least actionable number on the page. It is a conversion of the raw total, so two students with the same grade can have completely different profiles - one even across four criteria, the other strong on two and weak on two - and they need entirely different terms of work.

The useful reading is the shape rather than the level. A profile that is strong on knowing and understanding and weak on the investigative or communicative criterion tells you the student has the content and cannot yet demonstrate it in the form the task demands. That is a teachable, fast-moving problem. A profile that is weak on knowing and understanding and relatively stronger elsewhere tells you the opposite, and the work is slower.

The second thing worth reading is movement across reports rather than position in one. A criterion that has sat at 4 for three reporting cycles is a settled gap and probably has a specific cause the student can name once asked. A criterion that moves between 3 and 6 depending on the task is a consistency problem, usually about planning time or reading the task carefully, and it responds to process work rather than to subject teaching.

Finally, the conversion matters for deciding whether anything will show. Because the raw total out of 32 maps to a 1-7 grade through boundaries, a student at the top of a band needs one mark to move up and a student at the bottom needs several. Knowing which applies prevents the most demoralising outcome in MYP tutoring: a term of genuine improvement that does not change the number on the report, with nobody able to explain why. Ask the school for the boundary table it applies.

04

eAssessment, the Personal Project, and the boundary a tutor holds

In the final MYP year the programme adds assessments with their own rules, and families should establish early which of them apply. Schools may enter students for MYP eAssessment, which involves on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the IB MYP Certificate, or may assess entirely internally. The two produce quite different final years, and the difference is not always clearly communicated to parents. Ask the MYP coordinator in writing which route your child's cohort is on.

The Personal Project runs in the final year regardless, and it is assessed against its own criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, supported by a process journal and a report. The most common failure is a goal too large or too vague to evidence - a student sets out to build something ambitious, the process journal records enthusiasm rather than decisions, and the report has nothing specific to reflect on. Screening the goal for feasibility at the start is worth more than any amount of help later.

The process journal is itself assessed, which students consistently treat as a formality. It should record decisions, changes of direction, obstacles and what was learned from each, because those are the raw material of the reflection criterion. A journal that reads as a diary of activity scores poorly however impressive the outcome. This is teachable in a single session and almost never taught.

The boundary is the same as everywhere else in the IB and worth stating plainly. A tutor may teach the criteria, interrogate the feasibility of a goal, review a journal entry and explain why it is thin, mark a draft report against the descriptors and say that a section is below standard. A tutor may not plan the project, produce the outcome, write the report or redraft it to completion. The work must be the student's own, and the consequence of a breach falls on the student rather than on whoever sold the help.

05

The MYP to Diploma step, and the summer that decides it

The biggest risk in an MYP education is not a mid-programme dip. It is the transition into the Diploma, where assessment changes shape entirely. MYP rewards extended, thoughtful, well-documented work produced over days against published criteria. The Diploma rewards timed written answers against mark schemes, plus internal assessments with their own criteria and strict honesty rules. A student who has never sat a forty-five minute paper under pressure can lose two grades to the format alone.

The specific gaps are identifiable. Speed and timing, because MYP tasks rarely demand it. Recall under pressure, because MYP work is usually resource-supported. Method marks, because the Diploma awards credit for working rather than only for outcomes. And subject-specific technical content, particularly in mathematics and the sciences, where Diploma courses assume fluency that criterion-based tasks did not require.

The summer between MYP 5 and Year 12 is the right window for this, and it is the most wasted block in the whole IB sequence. There is no competing homework, the student has recovered from the final MYP year, and eight to twelve hours of focused bridging work costs less than a term of remediation in the first half of Year 12. Families in Al Qusais who do this arrive in the Diploma with the format problem already solved.

It also helps to settle subject choices with the Diploma in mind rather than with MYP strengths in mind. A student who scored well in MYP mathematics through investigating patterns may still find Analysis and Approaches hard, because that course examines algebraic fluency under time without a calculator on one paper. Discuss the four Diploma maths courses and the sciences with the coordinator before choices close, and use MYP criterion profiles as evidence rather than the overall grades.

Supply, cost and the fallback when no MYP specialist is free

  • Mathematics and sciences: comfortably staffed with criterion-literate tutors
  • Language and literature, individuals and societies: tighter
  • Design, arts and language acquisition by phase: genuinely scarce
  • Personal Project: needs someone who has marked against its criteria
  • Qualified tutor online published at roughly AED 150-300 an hour (October 2026)

Stating the coverage position is more useful than implying unlimited availability, and no competing page in this market does it. MYP mathematics and sciences are the easiest subject groups to staff with someone who genuinely knows the criteria. Language and literature and individuals and societies are tighter. Design, arts and language acquisition at a specific phase are genuinely scarce, and the Personal Project is scarce in a different way, because it needs someone who has marked against its criteria rather than someone who is good at projects.

Costs, for context rather than as our price list. Published Dubai market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200 and TutorChase listing AED 270; budget platforms advertise far lower, with Tutopiya from around AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. For MYP specifically the budget band carries a particular risk, because criterion literacy is not something a capable undergraduate necessarily has. In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel.

Our fallback, stated before any payment: if a tutor who knows your child's subject group and criteria is free in your window, you get one. If not, you are told at the match stage with three options - a different time slot with the right person, a tutor with adjacent expertise starting now while we hold the specialist slot, or a wait with a date attached. For a one-off criterion-translation session the wait is usually short, because that is a single session rather than a weekly commitment.

What we will not do is place a content tutor with an MYP student whose problem is a criterion and let two reporting cycles pass. That failure is invisible while it happens: the sessions feel productive, the student is working, and then the report comes back unchanged. It is the single most common complaint we hear from Al Qusais families about tutoring they bought elsewhere, and avoiding it is most of what this page is about.

07

KHDA, MYP schools in this catchment, and what inspection ratings do not tell you

Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects on a published six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and the rating belongs to the school as a whole. For a parent choosing an MYP school around Al Qusais, more useful questions are how long the school has been authorised for the programme, whether the cohort is entered for eAssessment, and how consistently the criteria are explained to students.

That last point matters because MYP is interpreted locally. Two authorised schools can apply the same descriptors with noticeably different strictness, which is why a student moving school mid-programme sometimes sees scores shift without anything changing in their work. It is also why a tutor needs the task-specific clarification from your child's own teacher rather than a generic version downloaded from elsewhere.

The regulator map is worth knowing in this catchment because Al Nahda sits on a border. Dubai is KHDA; Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which u.ae states regulates private education in the emirate and which, with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK; Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education.

Alongside MYP, Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies and stating that combined classes are strictly prohibited due to different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. That load shapes the week any MYP tutoring plan has to fit into. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the IB or any other body named here.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Qusais

Where a family lives in this part of Dubai affects which MYP school their child attends and how long the day is. Here is the practical picture neighbourhood by neighbourhood.

Al Qusais 1 and 2

Dominated by Indian-curriculum and British-track schools, so MYP students living here usually travel. That makes the after-school window shorter than the postcode suggests and pushes sessions to the evening or the weekend.

Al Qusais 3

Closest to the Sharjah approach and the evening traffic peak. Families here lose late-afternoon slots to the commute more often than anywhere else in the cluster, which is why online scheduling holds better through a term.

Al Nahda

Straddling the Dubai-Sharjah boundary, with households on either side answering to different regulators. Parents comparing MYP provision here are often comparing schools inspected under two different frameworks.

Al Mamzar

Home to one of the catchment's established IB cohorts, which makes it the main source of MYP enquiries in this area. Requests here skew towards MYP 4 and 5 and towards the Personal Project rather than towards the early years.

Al Garhoud and Festival City

Where several of the area's MYP classes actually sit. Long school days with co-curricular commitments routinely push a session past 19:30, which suits an online slot and defeats an in-home one.

Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

Mostly IGCSE-track schools, so MYP enquiries from here often come from families who have recently moved into the programme from another system and are reading a criterion report for the first time.

  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Oud Metha

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the criterion scores, not the grade

The four scores per subject from your child's last report, plus the subject group and MYP year. The overall 1-7 is a conversion and the least actionable number available; the four scores are what a tutor can actually work on.

  2. 02

Ask the teacher for the task sheet

The task-specific clarification issued with an assessment is what the work was marked against. It takes one email to request and it changes what a first session can do, and almost no family thinks to send it.

  3. 03

    Start with a criterion-translation session

One session that reads the report and the task sheet and explains, criterion by criterion, what the descriptors ask for and what is missing. Some families need only this, because the problem was assessment comprehension rather than the subject.

  4. 04

Hear the availability answer before paying

If a tutor who knows your child's subject group and criteria is free in your window, you get one. If not, you are told at the match stage with the alternatives and a date, rather than placed with a content tutor and left to find out at the next report.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the criterion, not the subject

A student weak on investigating patterns needs a different term from one weak on knowing and understanding, even in the same subject at the same level. Matching on the subject name alone is the most common reason MYP tutoring produces no change on a report.

We ask for the task sheet

Work is marked against the teacher's task-specific clarification, not against the general descriptors. A tutor who has not seen it is marking from the wrong document, and asking for it costs nothing and changes what the first session can achieve.

You get the test tasks

The three tasks on this page work on any MYP tutor in Dubai, including ours. Name the criteria, justify a priority against the grade boundary, mark real work and state a band. A page that hands you the audit is doing something different from one asking for trust.

Coverage limits published

Design, arts and language acquisition by phase are genuinely scarce, and the Personal Project needs someone who has marked against its criteria. We say which applies to your request at the match stage rather than after a payment has been taken.

Honest about the Personal Project

We teach its criteria, screen a goal for feasibility, review a process journal and mark drafts. We do not plan projects, produce outcomes or write reports. The work must be the student's own, and the consequence of a breach falls on the student.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Qusais: your questions answered

Why does my child's MYP grade not improve even though we have a tutor?+

Usually because the tutoring is aimed at the wrong criterion. MYP assesses four criteria per subject from 0 to 8, and a student can improve their content knowledge considerably while the weak criterion - investigating patterns, inquiring and designing, analysing, thinking critically - stays where it was. A tutor who has not read the descriptors will teach content well and miss the target entirely. Send the four criterion scores rather than the overall grade, and ask any tutor which criterion they are working on and why.

Is it realistic to find an MYP tutor near Al Qusais?+

Near Al Qusais, less so than you would hope, and for structural reasons. The MYP cohorts in this catchment sit mainly in Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City rather than in Al Qusais itself, so local tutors have rarely seen the programme. Searching by distance from Damascus Street is close to the worst available filter for this request. Matching by subject group and criterion over video opens a pool that is small in absolute terms but much larger than the set of people living twenty minutes away.

Which documents turn a first MYP session from a chat into a diagnosis?+

Three things. The four criterion scores per subject from the last report, not the overall grade. The task-specific clarification sheet the teacher issued with a recent assessment, which is what the work was actually marked against. And a piece of your child's own marked work. With those, a first session can diagnose rather than explore. Without them, the tutor is working from general descriptors and the student's self-report, which is how ten weeks get spent on something that was never the problem.

How do MYP criterion scores become the 1-7 grade on the report?+

The four criterion scores, each out of 8, add to a raw total out of 32, which is converted to a grade from 1 to 7 using published grade boundaries. That conversion is why two students with the same overall grade can have completely different profiles and need different work. It also means a student at the top of a boundary band may need one extra mark to move up while one at the bottom needs several. Ask your child's school for the boundary table it applies.

Which MYP criterion causes the most trouble in mathematics?+

Investigating patterns, consistently. It asks a student to find a rule, express it in general terms and justify why it holds - closer to proof than to calculation - and most students meet that demand without anyone explaining it. A child who can calculate fluently and reliably scores in the middle band here, which baffles parents looking at the overall grade. It is teachable and it moves relatively quickly once the expectation is made explicit, often within one reporting cycle.

How can I test whether a tutor really knows the MYP before paying?+

Set three tasks on the first call. Ask them to name the four criteria for your child's subject group and say which is usually weakest. Show them the report and ask what they would prioritise and why, listening for a reference to the grade boundary rather than just the lowest number. Then give them a piece of real work and the task sheet and ask them to name the band it sits in. A tutor who has done this before asks for the task-specific clarification first.

Does my child need weekly MYP tutoring or something shorter?+

Often something shorter. A substantial share of the MYP enquiries we take from this neighbourhood are resolved by one criterion-translation session: reading the report and the task sheet and explaining what the descriptors actually ask for. If the problem was comprehension of the assessment rather than of the subject, nothing more is needed this term. Weekly support makes sense where there is a genuine content gap underneath, or in the final year when the Personal Project and subject work compete.

What is the MYP Personal Project and where do students lose marks on it?+

A final-year project assessed against its own criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, supported by a process journal and a report. Marks are lost in two places. A goal too large or too vague to evidence, so the journal records enthusiasm rather than decisions. And a process journal treated as a formality, when it is an assessed document whose job is to record decisions, obstacles and what was learned - the raw material the reflection criterion needs. Screening the goal early is the highest-value intervention.

Where exactly does a tutor stop on an MYP Personal Project?+

Within clear limits, yes. A tutor may teach the criteria, question whether a goal is feasible and evidenceable, review a journal entry and explain why it is thin, mark a draft report against the descriptors and state that a section is below standard. A tutor may not plan the project, produce the outcome, write the report or rewrite it to completion. The work must be the student's own under IB academic-honesty rules, and a breach puts the student at risk rather than whoever sold the assistance.

Is my child's school entering them for MYP eAssessment?+

Ask the MYP coordinator in writing, because it changes the final year substantially and is not always communicated clearly to parents. Schools may enter students for eAssessment, which involves on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the IB MYP Certificate, or may assess entirely internally. A student preparing for on-screen examinations needs timed practice and format familiarity that an internally assessed student does not. Either way, the answer should shape how the final year is planned rather than emerging halfway through it.

How big is the jump from MYP 5 into the IB Diploma?+

Larger than most families expect, and the problem is format rather than content. MYP rewards extended, documented work produced over days against criteria; the Diploma rewards timed written answers against mark schemes. A student who has never sat a forty-five minute paper under pressure can lose ground to the format alone. The gaps are identifiable: speed, recall without resources, method marks, and technical fluency in maths and the sciences. Eight to twelve hours in the summer between usually closes them.

Should MYP grades decide my child's Diploma subject choices?+

Use the criterion profiles as evidence rather than the overall grades. A student who scored well in MYP mathematics largely through investigating patterns may still find Analysis and Approaches difficult, because that course examines algebraic fluency under time with no calculator on one paper. A student strong on knowing and understanding in sciences may be better placed than their grade suggests. Take the four scores per subject to the coordinator before choices close and ask which course they actually point towards.

What does MYP tutoring cost around Al Qusais?+

Published Dubai market rates, read in October 2026: a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB tuition from AED 200 and TutorChase publishing AED 270. Budget platforms advertise from around AED 33 to 65 an hour, which for MYP carries a specific risk because criterion literacy is not something a capable undergraduate necessarily has. In-home visits run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel. Those are other providers' figures; we quote against the subject group and the work required.

Do you send MYP tutors to homes in Al Qusais or Al Nahda?+

No. Every UAE lesson we arrange runs one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we operate only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the Emirates. For MYP the online format has a practical advantage beyond cost: the pool of tutors who are genuinely criterion-literate is small, and insisting that one of them also lives near Damascus Street reduces it to almost nothing. Matching over video is what makes a proper match possible at all from this neighbourhood.

Send the four scores and the task sheet

If you are looking for an IB MYP tutor in Al Qusais, the two documents that change everything are your child's four criterion scores per subject and the task-specific clarification sheet their teacher issued with a recent assessment. With those, a first session can say which criterion is actually weak, whether lifting it would move the grade given where the raw total sits, and what the student's work is missing. Some families need that single session and nothing more. Send the subject group, the MYP year and your workable time windows, and we will tell you plainly whether a criterion-literate tutor is free or what the wait is. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
