Edexcel IGCSE Geography 4GE1 Home Tutor in Dubai

Parents who search for an Edexcel IGCSE Geography 4GE1 home tutor in Dubai are usually solving a logistics problem, not a teaching one: somebody competent, in the house, at a time that fits. This page answers that honestly. It sets out what the Dubai in-home market charges, what travel does to the hour you pay for, how to check a tutor is permitted to work here, and why IB Gram delivers 4GE1 as one-to-one online tuition instead of a visit.

  • Published Dubai market rates in AED, with the source and the date
  • What a visit costs once travel is priced into the hour
  • How to verify a tutor's MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • Online one to one; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The honest answer to a home tutor search, before anything is sold

An Edexcel IGCSE Geography 4GE1 home tutor in Dubai is a real thing you can buy. Independent tutors advertise visits across the city, agencies place them, and rates published by UAE providers in 2026 put in-home one-to-one work in a band of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour depending on the tutor's experience and the distance travelled. If the deciding factor for your family is that somebody physically arrives, that market exists and you should use it with your eyes open about what the premium buys.

What the premium mostly buys is travel. A tutor crossing Dubai at six in the evening is pricing the journey into the hour, and the practical consequence is a smaller pool of available people, less flexibility when a fixture or a work trip moves, and a tendency for the slot to drift later in the exam term when traffic is worst. For a subject like geography, where the useful work is reading a marked script and rewriting an answer side by side, none of that travel is doing anything for the teaching.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai. Home visits are a service we run only in India. For UAE families, tuition is delivered one to one, online, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. That is a deliberate position rather than a limitation, and the reason is specification coverage: 4GE1 schools choose which specification topics they teach, so the tutor who has actually taught your child's entered topics is rarely the tutor who lives twenty minutes away. Over video, proximity stops being a filter.

The rest of this page is written for a parent comparing options on cost and logistics rather than on syllabus detail. It prices the Dubai market model by model with the sources named, shows what the same budget buys online against in-home, explains how to verify that a tutor is legally permitted to tutor in the UAE, sets out what evidence should arrive each month so you can judge whether the money is working, and puts the cost in context against school fees in a year when KHDA has confirmed no fee increase for 2026-27.

One thing this page will not do is quote a price for IB Gram in AED and call it the market rate. Every figure below is attributed to the published source it came from and dated, because a tutoring page that presents its own pricing as market research is not research. Three of the six best-ranking Dubai tutoring pages publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a Dubai household transacts in, so the bare numbers below are worth more than the prose around them. Our own commercial answer is a first session at no charge, one per student, after which you decide, and the decision should rest on the written diagnosis that session produces rather than on anything written here.

Three things change the number on a Dubai tutoring quote for geography: the qualification, the year of study, and how close the exam is. Here is how each one moves it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Geography (4GE1)

A two-year course examined by written papers built around a resource booklet, with school-chosen specification topics and an enquiry element. Humanities tuition generally sits below sciences and maths in this market, and a Year 10 rate is usually lower than a Year 11 rate from the same tutor because exam proximity changes demand.

In Dubai the practical cost driver is the school term. Quotes harden from January onwards as Year 11 families move at once, and the specialist tutors with entered-topic experience fill their evening slots first. A family starting in September pays less per hour for the same tutor than one starting in March, and gets a better choice of slot.

CIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Geography (0460/0976)

The alternative IGCSE geography route in the UAE. Rates are broadly the same, but the pool of tutors is different, and a tutor priced for one board is not automatically useful for the other. Paper structure, enquiry assessment and command word conventions all differ enough to show up in a marked answer.

Dubai families often inherit revision material from an older sibling who sat the other board, which is a hidden cost rather than a saving. If the folder says 0460 and the entry says 4GE1, part of the first paid hour goes on separating what transfers. Confirming the code on the entry slip before you book avoids paying for that.

ALEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level and IB Diploma geography, the next step

Post-16 geography is priced higher than IGCSE across every published band, because the pool of tutors who can mark to those standards is smaller. Published specialist bands for IB, IGCSE and A Level sit around AED 200 to 450 and above per hour, with premium examiner-branded provision quoted higher still.

Worth knowing in Year 11 rather than Year 12, because families who plan two years of support are buying into a rising price curve. A Dubai household budgeting for geography through to Diploma or A Level should price the post-16 years separately rather than extending the IGCSE figure.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Geography support in Dubai is rarely bought alone. These are the areas families most often combine it with, and what each one does to the budget and the timetable.

Geography (4GE1)

Edexcel International GCSE

Humanities pricing, written-answer workload. The work that moves the grade is marking and rewriting, which transfers to a screen share with nothing lost. This is the subject on this page and it is the cheapest of the common combinations to support properly.

History (4HI1)

Edexcel International GCSE

Frequently taken alongside geography and priced the same. The overlap in skills is real, so one tutor covering both source analysis and evaluative writing can reduce the total hours needed, provided they have taught both specifications.

English Language and Literature

IGCSE, both boards

The other writing-heavy subject in a Dubai Year 11 timetable, and the one that competes most directly with geography for a student's evening writing capacity. Running both at once usually needs a sequencing decision rather than two weekly slots.

Business Studies and Economics

IGCSE

Shares the evaluative-writing demand with geography, including the judgement-at-the-end habit. Families combining these two often find that the writing work compounds and the total hours fall after the first half term.

Mathematics (4MA1)

Edexcel International GCSE

Priced higher than humanities in every published band and usually the first subject a Dubai family buys support for. If both maths and geography are weak, maths normally takes the fixed weekly slot and geography takes a fortnightly rhythm with written tasks.

Combined and separate sciences

IGCSE

The most expensive IGCSE support in this market, driven by practical and calculation demand. Relevant here because a household budget that already carries a weekly science slot rarely has room for a second weekly slot in a humanity.

Arabic as a first or additional language

KHDA mandatory subject

Required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. It occupies timetable and homework space in Year 11 and is frequently the subject families forget when planning geography revision time.

Islamic Education and Social Studies

KHDA mandatory subjects

Also required across Dubai private schools, taught with language-of-instruction rules set by KHDA. Schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, and teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic need appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects.

Geographical Investigation support

4GE1 enquiry element

Billed as ordinary sessions, not as a package. Teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own material only. Anything presented as a completed write-up for submission is an academic-integrity breach and would put the candidate at risk, not the provider.

Exam technique across humanities

Years 10-11

Time budgeting by tariff, command word reading and judgement writing. The cheapest intervention available in this market because it applies across every written subject the student sits, and three or four sessions usually exhaust what there is to teach.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy geography support in Dubai, with what each one really costs in money and in time. All IB Gram sessions are online one to one; the first row describes a market we do not operate in.

An in-home visit from an independent tutor

A tutor travels to your community for a fixed hour or two. Published UAE rates for in-home one-to-one work sit at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, and monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions have been advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799. IB Gram does not operate in this market anywhere in the UAE.

  • Highest published hourly band of the three options
  • Smallest pool: whoever will drive to your community at your hour
  • Access, parking and traffic absorb paid minutes at both ends
  • Hardest to replace mid-term if the match turns out wrong

One-to-one online, which is what we deliver

A fixed weekly slot over live video, with screen sharing so the marked script, the mark scheme and the resource booklet are visible to both. Qualified online subject tutors are published across UAE providers in a band of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision quoted around AED 200 to 450 and above.

  • Tutor chosen for entered-topic experience, not for postcode
  • Starts at the agreed minute; no access or travel loss
  • Annotated work comes back in writing after each session
  • A different tutor can be proposed without restarting the search

Small group or centre-based classes

Group teaching at a tuition centre or online in a small cohort. Cheapest per hour, and reasonable for content coverage, but the long evaluative questions in geography need individual marking and rewriting, which a group format cannot give each student in the time available.

  • Lowest cost per hour of the three formats
  • Useful for content catch-up, weak for long-answer marking
  • Pace set by the group, not by your child's weakest question type
  • Centres with premises in Dubai are licensed separately by KHDA

01

What the Dubai market charges, model by model, with the sources named

Three of the six best-ranking tutoring pages for Dubai searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. So here is the AED picture assembled from rates that providers and rate-trackers published themselves and that we read in October 2026. Treat every band as the market, not as our price list, and treat the top of each band as the number a tutor quotes in March rather than in September.

The pattern across the sources is consistent. Budget online provision, typically a university student or a generalist, advertises from roughly AED 33 to 150 an hour. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at roughly AED 150 to 300. In-home one-to-one, with travel priced in, runs about AED 180 to 500. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision is quoted around AED 200 to 450 and above, and premium named or examiner-branded provision has been published as high as AED 650. Monthly figures published for weekly one-hour sessions run from about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

For 4GE1 specifically, two adjustments apply. Humanities subjects generally sit below maths and sciences within each band, so a geography quote tends to land in the lower half of whichever tier the tutor belongs to. Against that, specification-specific experience is scarcer in humanities than families expect, because the entered-topic variation between schools is wider, so a genuinely matched 4GE1 tutor prices like a specialist rather than like a general humanities tutor. The useful question is not which tier is cheapest. It is which tier can mark a long evaluative answer against the levels descriptors.

What travel does to the hour you are paying for

The in-home premium is not a quality premium. It is a travel premium, and it is worth seeing it broken down, because the parts a family never sees on the invoice are the parts that decide whether the arrangement survives to half term. A tutor driving from Al Barsha to Town Square at six in the evening is committing well over an hour to a sixty-minute lesson. That commitment has to be priced, and it is priced inside the hourly rate rather than as a line item.

The second cost is optionality. A tutor who will travel to your community at your hour is a much smaller set than a tutor who has taught your child's entered 4GE1 topics. Families usually discover this at the point where the first match is not working: replacing an in-home tutor mid-term means restarting the search within the same narrow radius, while replacing an online tutor means choosing from everyone available at that hour. For a subject where entered-topic experience is the thing that matters, that is the whole argument.

The third is drift. Visits start late when traffic is heavy, and the heaviest traffic coincides with the exam term. Access procedures in gated communities absorb minutes at the start, and a tutor with a second student across town absorbs minutes at the end. None of those minutes teach anything. A screen share that opens at the agreed minute and spends the full hour on a marked script is not a compromise against a visit; for this subject it is a straightforwardly better use of the same money.

Is your tutor legally permitted to tutor in the UAE, and how do you check?

This is the question the in-home market makes most urgent and the one almost nobody in the Dubai tutoring SERP answers. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and MoHRE's own service page for it is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time. The permit is granted free of charge for two years.

Eligibility is broader than families assume. It covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so if you see a specific amount quoted on a tutoring site, that amount is not sourced from the ministry.

Two further rules matter for an in-home arrangement. A school teacher tutoring their own enrolled students is a problem rather than a shortcut: Abu Dhabi's ADEK ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the permit carries a code of conduct that also addresses serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Separately, a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram holds none of these as endorsements and claims none; the permit question is about the individual you are inviting to teach your child.

The tutor pool problem nobody mentions in a home tutor quote

  • Ask which specification code and which entered topics the tutor has taught
  • Ask when they last marked a 4GE1 long answer against the levels descriptors
  • Ask what happens, concretely, if the first match does not work
  • Treat a tutor who is available immediately in March with mild curiosity
  • Proximity is a filter with no educational value for this subject

4GE1 schools choose which specification topics they teach. That single fact is what breaks a proximity-based tutor search for this subject. A tutor can be an excellent geographer, have taught IGCSE for a decade, and still not have taught the combination of physical and human environments your child's school entered. In sciences this matters less, because the content is largely fixed. In geography it decides whether the first month is teaching or orientation.

Run the numbers in your head. The set of geography tutors in Dubai is already modest. Narrow it to those with Edexcel rather than Cambridge experience, then to those who have taught the entered topics, then to those free at seven on a Tuesday. Now narrow it again to those willing to drive to your community. The last filter is the one with no educational value at all, and it is usually the one that removes the specialist. Families who insist on it generally end up with a competent generalist and describe the result as fine rather than useful.

Online delivery drops that last filter. It also makes a mid-term change survivable, which matters more than parents expect: a wrong match discovered in week three costs three weeks if the tutor can be replaced from the same hour's availability, and costs a term if the replacement has to live nearby. We will say plainly when no entered-topic specialist is free at your hour, and offer either a different hour or a tutor who states clearly which topics they have and have not taught. What we will not do is present a general humanities tutor as a 4GE1 specialist.

05

Evidence: how a Dubai parent judges whether the money is working

The weakness of in-home tutoring as a product is not the teaching. It is the reporting. A tutor leaves, your child says it went well, and four months later the report arrives. Nothing in that loop lets a parent decide in week six whether to continue. So the test to apply to any provider, including this one, is simple: what arrives in writing, how often, and does it contain a number you can compare to last month's number.

For a written subject like geography, the comparable numbers are available and specific. The mark and the band of the long answer attempted each week. The timing log from a full paper, question by question. The count of case studies rebuilt to template and dated. The ranked list of question types by marks lost, revisited at half term. Four quantities, all of them produced as a by-product of the teaching rather than as extra administration, and all of them visible to a parent who does not teach geography.

What we do not report is a satisfaction score, a percentile or a predicted grade, because none of those can be evidenced on a single student's work and all of them appear on competitor pages without a sample size, a date or a method. If a provider shows you a figure like that, ask how many students it covers and when it was measured. The absence of an answer is the answer, and it tells you something about everything else on the page too.

06

Putting the cost in context against Dubai school fees

Tutoring is a second education bill in a city where the first one is already substantial. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum schools accounting for 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian 26 per cent, US 14 per cent and International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. Against that, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

That fee freeze is the right anchor for a tutoring decision this year, because it means the household education budget is not moving underneath you. A family deciding whether to add a weekly geography slot is making a marginal decision against a fixed base rather than a rising one. Published monthly figures for weekly one-hour sessions run from roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end up to AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support, so the honest range for a year of 4GE1 support is wide and depends almost entirely on which tier you buy and when you start.

The sequencing advice follows from the numbers rather than from sales logic. Start earlier in the academic year, when rates and slots are both softer. Buy one subject properly rather than three approximately. Front-load the diagnosis, because the first session is what tells you whether this is a technique problem solvable in a term or a content problem that needs longer. And treat the exam-term intensive as a top-up on work already done, not as the plan, because the published premium for late starts is real and the available improvement is smaller.

07

Scheduling around the Dubai school run, activities and Ramadan

  • One fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time beats flexible good intentions
  • Treat mock weeks as assessment weeks, not revision weeks
  • Plan post-Iftar timing for Ramadan in advance, not in the week
  • One short written task between sessions is what makes the hour compound
  • Saturday mornings are the most reliable slot in the exam term

Most Dubai private schools run Monday to Friday with a lighter Friday, so the realistic slots for a Year 10 or Year 11 are weekday evenings between five and eight, and Saturday mornings. Those are also the hours the in-home market is most constrained, because a visiting tutor can serve at most two or three households in an evening and is competing with traffic to do it. The scheduling advantage of online delivery is unglamorous and decisive: the slot you agree is the slot that happens, including in the weeks when the roads do not cooperate.

Build the plan around the school's assessment calendar rather than around the exam date alone. Mock weeks and internal assessment weeks are not revision weeks, and a schedule that assumes they are slips by a fortnight before half term. School trips, sports fixtures and music commitments move more often in Dubai than families admit when the plan is drawn up in September, which is the argument for a fixed weekly slot plus one written task between sessions rather than occasional long blocks.

Ramadan shifts the working day across the UAE, and families routinely move tuition to post-Iftar slots for the month. That works well for a written subject if it is planned in week one of the term rather than improvised in the week itself, because the whole family's evening rhythm changes at once. If the exam term and Ramadan overlap in a given year, decide in advance which weeks are for timed practice and which are for lighter consolidation, and accept that the timed papers should sit outside the heaviest weeks.

08

What a first session has to produce before you spend anything

A free first session is only worth having if it produces a document. Ours is one session per student at no charge, and the deliverable is a written diagnosis: the question types ranked by marks lost, one long answer annotated against the levels descriptors, and a statement of which two specification topics should get the deep work. If a provider offers a trial that produces nothing in writing, you have had a sales call with a teacher present.

Before that session, send two things: the last marked geography paper or long answer, and the most recent school report comment on geography. Two documents are enough to separate four different problems that look identical from the outside, namely missing content, misread command words, poor time budgeting and an unusable case-study bank. The remedies for those four are completely different, and buying tuition before you know which one you have is how families end up paying for general revision.

After the session, the decision should be concrete. A weekly slot, a fortnightly rhythm with longer written tasks, or no tuition at all, which is sometimes the right answer and is a thing we say. If the match between tutor and student is wrong, we propose a different tutor rather than defending the first one, and the slot is not tied to a package you have to exit. The point of attaching the diagnosis to the first hour is that you can judge the rest of the arrangement on evidence you already hold.

Where we tutor

What a home tutor search means in different parts of Dubai

The in-home market is priced by distance as much as by subject, which is why the same tutor quotes differently across the city. Online delivery removes that variable entirely. Here is what each area tends to mean in practice.

Dubai Marina and JBR

High density, high demand, short distances between apartments and several schools, so the in-home pool here is comparatively deep and rates sit at the lower end of the visit band. Parking and tower access still cost a tutor fifteen minutes at each end of a visit.

Palm Jumeirah

A single access route and villa addresses spread along the fronds, which makes a visit a genuinely long round trip from most of the city. Published in-home rates for communities like this sit at the upper end of the band, and the premium is almost entirely travel.

The Greens and The Views

Central, well connected and close to several British-curriculum schools, so visiting tutors are easier to find and slots are competitive rather than scarce. Evening availability tightens sharply from January, when Year 11 families in this area move at the same time.

Al Quoz and Al Khail Heights

Mixed residential and industrial, with long signal-heavy approaches at peak hours. Families here report the biggest gap between the promised arrival time and the actual one, which is the hidden cost of a visit nobody prices into the quote.

Town Square and Damac Hills

Outer communities where the drive from central Dubai can exceed the lesson itself. Tutors either decline, quote a travel premium, or cluster several students in one compound on the same evening, which constrains your choice of slot.

Dubai Festival City and Nad Al Hamar

Creek-side communities with heavy directional traffic, so an evening visit from the Marina side is impractical and a morning one is impossible in term time. This is the kind of geography that quietly decides whether weekly tuition survives to half term.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Tilal Al Ghaf

Low density, gated access and long internal roads. Access procedures alone can absorb ten minutes of a paid hour. Online sessions start at the agreed minute, which for a family paying by the hour is not a small difference across a term.

International City and Warsan

Price-sensitive demand and a large pool of budget in-home tutors advertising locally. This is where the gap between the cheapest advertised rate and verified specification experience is widest, and where asking for the permit and the specification code matters most.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the hour, not the location

The only logistical facts that matter are which evenings are genuinely free and which timezone you are in. Your community changes nothing about the tutor pool, because the lesson happens over video. This is the question that replaces how far will you travel.

  2. 02

Send the marked work and the report comment

The last marked geography answer plus the school's latest report line. Those two documents separate a content problem from a command word problem from a timing problem, which is the distinction that decides whether you need a term of teaching or four sessions of technique.

Confirm the entry with the school

Which 4GE1 specification topics were entered and which exam series the student is sitting. One email to the humanities lead. Without it, any tutor is partly guessing, and in a subject with school-chosen topics that guess is expensive.

  4. 04

Take the first session and read the diagnosis

One session per student at no charge, ending in a written ranking of question types by marks lost and one annotated long answer. Judge the provider on that document rather than on the conversation, and compare it to what any other quote offers before it is paid.

  5. 05

Review on the four numbers at half term

Long-answer band, timing log, dated case studies, and the ranked question-type list. If the top item from the first session has not moved, the plan changes or the tutoring stops. Those are the only two honest options.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices attributed, never implied

Every AED figure on this page is a published market band with the kind of source and the month it was read stated. We do not present our own rate as market research, and we do not quote a figure for a fine or a fee that no authority publishes.

Clear about the service we do not sell

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. Saying that before you enquire is more useful than a page that lets the search term imply otherwise.

Specification experience over proximity

Because 4GE1 schools choose their topics, the tutor who has taught your child's entered combination is the variable worth optimising. Online delivery lets you optimise it instead of optimising the drive.

Written evidence after every session

An annotated answer, a mark, a band, and the single change that would move it. A parent who does not teach geography can still read a band moving from one descriptor to the next, which is more than a verbal report after a visit gives you.

The permit question answered, not avoided

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge, valid for two years, and the route to it is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Ask any tutor, including ours, about their permit position, and treat a vague answer as information.

No guarantees, no invented statistics

No promised grade, no claim of KHDA or board endorsement, and no satisfaction percentage. If we cannot state the sample size, the date and the method, the number does not go on the page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Can we book a home tutor for Edexcel IGCSE Geography 4GE1 in Dubai?+

You can buy in-home geography tuition in Dubai from independent tutors and from agencies that place them, at published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour. IB Gram is not one of those providers: we do not offer home visits in Dubai or elsewhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we run only in India. What we deliver to Dubai families is one-to-one online tuition over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. For 4GE1 specifically that trade is favourable, because the tutor can be chosen for entered-topic experience rather than for driving distance.

What does an in-home geography tutor charge per hour in Dubai?+

Published UAE rates read in October 2026 put in-home one-to-one tuition at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions advertised between AED 1,599 and 1,799. Humanities subjects usually sit in the lower half of whichever band a tutor belongs to, so a general geography visit tends to be quoted nearer the bottom of that range and a specification specialist nearer the top. Those are market figures from providers and rate trackers, not an IB Gram price, and the top of each band is what gets quoted once the spring term starts.

Is the travel time included in a Dubai home tutor's hourly rate?+

Almost always, and that is the point parents miss. A tutor driving from one side of Dubai to another at six in the evening commits well over an hour to a sixty-minute lesson, and that commitment is priced inside the hourly figure rather than itemised. You also pay in minutes: gated access, tower parking and a second student across town absorb time at both ends of the visit. Ask any in-home quote two questions, namely where the tutor is travelling from and what happens to the lesson when traffic is bad.

Does an online geography session really work as well as a tutor at the kitchen table?+

For this subject the honest answer is that it works better, because the work that moves a 4GE1 grade is reading a marked script against a mark scheme and rewriting an answer. On a screen share both people see the same annotation at the same time, which is awkward with one paper copy between two heads. The in-home format wins on two genuine things: a young or easily distracted student, and a household that wants a visible adult presence. Neither of those is about geography, and both are legitimate reasons to choose differently.

What should a Dubai family budget each month for 4GE1 geography support?+

Published monthly figures for weekly one-hour sessions run from roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 for mid-tier provision, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. For geography, a realistic plan is one weekly session through the year at mid-tier rates, with a denser block in the final eight to twelve weeks. Starting in September costs less per hour than starting in March and gives a better choice of slot, because Year 11 demand across Dubai arrives all at once after the winter break.

Are tutoring fees in Dubai quoted with VAT included or added?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing before the first invoice. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as a general rule here, because that is a Federal Tax Authority question and tutoring pages that assert it are guessing. What a parent can reasonably require is that any quoted AED figure states whether it is inclusive or exclusive, and that a provider charging VAT shows a tax registration number. The market bands cited on this page are the figures providers published; whether each is inclusive is not consistently stated by those sources.

How do I check that a geography tutor is permitted to work in the UAE?+

Ask directly about the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service through its smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Eligibility covers school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine amounts are published, so ignore any figure quoted online.

Can my child's own geography teacher tutor them privately in Dubai?+

Treat it as a boundary to avoid rather than a shortcut to arrange. The private tuition permit carries a code of conduct addressing tutors serving students affiliated with their own school, and in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school. Beyond the rules, the arrangement is bad for the student: the person marking the school assessment should not also be the person paid to prepare them for it. Ask for a tutor with no connection to your child's school.

Why is it hard to find a 4GE1 geography specialist near our community?+

Because 4GE1 schools choose which specification topics they teach, so the useful tutor is not the nearest geographer but the one who has taught your child's entered combination. Filtering an already modest pool by Edexcel rather than Cambridge experience, then by entered topics, then by your available hour, leaves a small set. Adding a willingness to drive to your community removes most of what is left, and that last filter does nothing for the teaching. This is the main reason we deliver 4GE1 online rather than by visit.

What written evidence should arrive after each paid session?+

Four things, cumulatively: the annotated long answer with its mark and band, a per-question timing log whenever a full paper is sat, the count of case studies rebuilt to template and dated, and a ranked list of question types by marks lost that gets revisited at half term. All four are by-products of the teaching, so no provider needs extra administration to produce them. If what arrives instead is a satisfaction rating or a predicted grade, ask how many students it covers and when it was measured.

Does it cost more to start geography tutoring in the exam term?+

Yes, in two currencies. Rates harden from January as Year 11 demand across Dubai arrives at once, and the specialists with entered-topic experience fill their evening slots first, so the money buys a narrower choice. The second cost is the available improvement: technique work on command words and time budgeting still pays in eight weeks, but rebuilding a case-study bank and closing content gaps does not compress well. Starting in the autumn is cheaper per hour and materially more useful per hour.

Is a small group class a reasonable way to save money on geography?+

For content coverage, yes, and the per-hour cost is the lowest of the three formats, with online monthly packages of eight sessions advertised from around AED 799. For the long evaluative questions, no. Those marks come from individual marking against levels descriptors and from rewriting one answer properly, which a group format cannot give every student in the time available. A workable compromise is group teaching for content with occasional one-to-one sessions bought specifically for long-answer marking.

Do Dubai school fees and tutoring costs both rise every year?+

Not this year on the school side. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Tutoring is a separate, unregulated market and moves with demand rather than with policy, which is why the same tutor quotes differently in September and in March. For a household planning a year of geography support, the useful consequence is that the base education bill is fixed, so the tutoring decision is a marginal one against a stable number.

What happens if the first tutor is not the right match for our child?+

Say so early and we propose a different tutor from the same hour's availability, without restarting the search. That is the structural advantage of online delivery over an in-home arrangement: replacing a visiting tutor means finding another person willing to drive to your community at your hour, which can cost a term. We would rather be told in week two than discover it in a half-term review. There is no package to exit, and the written diagnosis from the first session transfers to whoever takes over.
