Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 Home Tutor in Dubai

Looking for a Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 home tutor in Dubai usually starts with one event: a mock came back lower than the family expected and nobody can say exactly which marks went missing. This page answers that with evidence rather than reassurance. Lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, and every fortnight your child's work comes back as a marked script against the Cambridge mark scheme, with the lost marks grouped by cause rather than by topic.

  • Live online one-to-one lessons on Gulf Standard Time, recorded for later revision
  • Covers Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended, including the alternative-to-practical route
  • Past-paper scripts returned marked against the published Cambridge mark scheme
  • A free trial lesson first, with no card details taken before it

Why a mock grade on its own tells you almost nothing

A Dubai physics mock arrives as a letter and a percentage. Neither of those tells you what to fix. A 54 per cent on 0625 Paper 4 can belong to a student who understands electricity and cannot rearrange an equation, or to a student who rearranges confidently and has never properly separated mass from weight. Those two children need completely different terms of work. The first needs twenty minutes of algebra and then volume practice. The second needs three definitions rebuilt from scratch before any question is attempted. A tutor who asks for the script before asking what grade your child is aiming at is working from evidence, and that single habit is the difference between a term that moves a grade and a term that fills a Tuesday evening.

So the first session on a 0625 case is a diagnostic rather than a lesson. Your child sits a recent Extended paper under exam timing, in their own handwriting, with no help. The tutor then marks it against the published Cambridge mark scheme and tags every lost mark into one of five causes: a definition not known, an equation not recalled, a substitution error, a unit or prefix slip, and a command term read as something else. The output is not a percentage. It is a ranked list that says, for example, that eleven marks went on prefixes and conversions, nine on recall of the density and pressure relationships, and four on misreading describe as explain.

That list is what the following weeks are built on, and it is also what you get to see. Parents in Dubai are rarely short of enthusiasm from tutors and almost always short of paperwork. A ranked cause list, a fortnightly marked script and a running tally of which of the six 0625 topic areas is still leaking marks is paperwork you can take into a parents' evening and put next to the school's own data. When the school says your daughter is a solid six and the scripts say she drops eleven marks a paper on unit conversions alone, the conversation changes from opinion to arithmetic.

The URL you clicked says home tutor, because that is the phrase Dubai families actually type into Google. Here is the plain position before you read any further: IB Gram does not send tutors to houses, villas or apartments anywhere in the UAE, and home visiting is a service we run only in India. Physics lessons for Dubai students are delivered live online, one to one, over video, with a shared screen for circuit diagrams and ray boxes. We would rather say that on the first screen than bury it. The argument for it is straightforward: a family in Mirdif or Arabian Ranches gets a specialist who has marked hundreds of 0625 scripts instead of whichever qualified person happens to live inside a drivable radius on a weekday evening.

What follows is the detail: how 0625 is assessed paper by paper, where its marks actually go missing, what Dubai's market charges for physics help in AED, what eight weeks of documented work looks like, and where the honest limits of tutoring sit. None of it requires you to book anything to be useful.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai's British-curriculum schools run a predictable ladder, and Cambridge Physics 0625 sits at the hinge of it. Knowing which rung your child is on changes what a term of tutoring should be doing, so each programme below is described by what it demands rather than by its brochure wording.

LOWER SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before an IGCSE option choice, usually taught as general science rather than separate physics. Checkpoint tests sit at the end of Year 9 in March, May and October windows. Work here is descriptive: observe, record, explain in a sentence. Almost none of it asks a student to rearrange a formula or convert a prefix, which is precisely why the jump into 0625 surprises families.

In Dubai this is where the science groups split. A student placed in the lower set in Year 9 is often routed towards Core 0625 or Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 without the family realising a decision has been taken. A term of numerical confidence work in Year 9 is usually cheaper and easier than fighting a tier change in Year 11.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)

Two years, six topic areas, two tiers. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3 and are capped at grade C. Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4 and can reach A*. Both tiers add a practical component, either the laboratory Paper 5 or the written Paper 6. The syllabus covers motion, forces and energy; thermal physics; waves; electricity and magnetism; nuclear physics; and space physics.

Dubai centres differ on whether they enter candidates for Paper 5 or Paper 6, and on when they run mocks. Both decisions sit with the school, not with you, so the practical question to ask your head of science is which practical paper the centre enters and in which series. Everything about revision sequencing follows from the answer.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS & A Level

The post-16 route most Dubai British schools offer alongside or instead of the IB Diploma. A Level Physics assumes fluency with everything 0625 treated as new: vectors, graph gradients, exponential decay, and algebraic rearrangement under time pressure. Students who reached grade A on 0625 by memorising worked examples rather than by understanding method are the ones who stall in the first term.

Several Dubai schools require a grade A or B at Extended 0625 before admitting a student to AS Physics. If that threshold is the live question in your house, the tutoring brief is narrow and measurable: lift the specific paper that the entry requirement is read from, and get there before the school's internal deadline rather than after results day.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Physics

The other post-16 fork, offered by a large share of Dubai's international schools. DP Physics at Standard or Higher Level rewards the experimental write-up and the data analysis far more heavily than 0625 does, and it expects uncertainty handling that IGCSE barely touches. The internal assessment is the student's own investigation, marked at school and moderated by the IB.

Dubai families often choose between A Level and the Diploma during Year 11, while 0625 revision is in full flow. The useful 0625 work in that term is the practical paper, because the measurement, uncertainty and graph skills in Paper 5 or Paper 6 are the ones DP Physics picks up and extends immediately.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics 0625 is rarely the only pressure point in a Year 10 or Year 11 timetable in Dubai. These are the Cambridge codes most often requested alongside it, with the specific place each one tends to lose marks.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Six topic areas, two written papers plus a practical component. Marks concentrate in electricity and magnetism and in motion, forces and energy. The reliable leak is numerical: prefix conversion, significant figures and equation rearrangement under time pressure, not conceptual misunderstanding.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

Twelve topic areas running from states of matter to organic chemistry. Stoichiometry is the gatekeeper: a student who cannot move confidently between moles, mass and concentration will lose marks in six separate topics, which is why 0620 grades often sit a band below 0625 grades for the same student.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

The widest recall load of the three sciences, with twenty-one topic areas. Marks go on precision of language rather than on calculation: diffusion described instead of defined, an enzyme answer that never mentions active site shape, a transport answer that leaves out the direction of movement.

Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Double award, Core and Extended

Biology, chemistry and physics in one double-award qualification, with each discipline covered to less depth than its separate syllabus. Students move onto it to protect option-block space. The physics content overlaps 0625 heavily but the paper structure differs, so past-paper choice matters.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The subject that silently determines a physics grade. Rearranging v squared equals u squared plus two a s, handling standard form, reading a gradient from a non-linear axis: all of it is 0580 content being examined inside 0625. Fixing the maths usually lifts both grades.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Extended only

Taken by stronger Dubai sets in Year 11 alongside 0580, and a strong predictor of comfort in AS Physics. Calculus and function work here makes the graph interpretation in Paper 4 feel routine. Students carrying both 0606 and 0625 need session timing planned around the heavier week.

Computer Science (0478)

Core and Extended

Frequently paired with physics by Dubai students heading towards engineering. The logic-gate and binary content shares reasoning habits with the electronics parts of 0625, and both papers punish partial method: an answer with the right idea and no working attracts few marks.

Design and Technology (0445)

Core and Extended

Carries coursework, unlike 0625, which means a Year 11 student holding both faces a coursework deadline during physics revision season. Worth mapping in September so the practical paper preparation does not collide with the design submission week.

First Language English (0500)

Core and Extended

The command-term work that helps physics lives here. Students who read describe, explain, suggest and compare as interchangeable in an English paper read them the same way in Paper 4, and the mark scheme does not forgive it.

Geography (0460)

Core and Extended

Shares the graph, scale and data-description skills that Paper 6 tests. A student who can describe a trend from a climate graph can usually describe one from a cooling curve, once someone shows them the two tasks are the same task.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai families run 0625 physics support, each suited to a different point in Year 10 or Year 11. All of them are delivered live online over video, one student and one tutor, with the shared screen used for circuits, ray diagrams and graph work.

Weekly one-to-one with a fortnightly marked paper

The default pattern for a student working across a full academic year. One session a week on the topic the school is teaching, with a timed past-paper section marked and returned every second week so the cause list stays current rather than becoming a September snapshot.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes, fixed weekday slot
  • Marked script returned with mark-scheme wording quoted
  • Running tally by topic area across the six 0625 topics
  • Recording available for the week's revision

Pre-series intensive block

A short, dense run of sessions in the eight weeks before a June or November series. Content teaching stops almost entirely; the work becomes timed sections, mark-scheme comparison and the specific repair of whatever the cause list ranks first. Suited to a student who understands the physics and underperforms on paper.

  • Two or three sessions a week for six to eight weeks
  • Full Paper 2 or Paper 4 under timing each fortnight
  • Prefix, unit and significant-figure drills between sessions
  • Separate slot reserved for the practical paper

Practical-paper clinic

A focused run on Paper 5 or Paper 6 alone, which is a fifth of the grade and the component students revise last. Work covers reading instruments, tabulating results with consistent decimal places, plotting and drawing a line of best fit, identifying a source of error and suggesting a genuine improvement.

  • Four to six sessions, independent of the theory work
  • Past practical questions worked against the mark scheme
  • Graph plotting checked for scale, labels and units
  • Error and improvement phrasing practised to mark-scheme standard

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

What a 0625 home tutor search in Dubai actually turns up

  • In-home market rate in Dubai: roughly AED 180-500 per hour including travel
  • Online qualified subject tutor: roughly AED 150-300 per hour across the market
  • Extended 0625 specialists are thin on the ground in any single community
  • IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai; that service runs only in India

Type cambridge IGCSE physics 0625 home tutor in Dubai into Google and three kinds of result come back: agencies that will send a qualified adult to your villa, marketplaces listing independent tutors by neighbourhood, and online platforms. Prices for the first group run from roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour once travel is inside the number, and the pool is whoever lives close enough to reach you by 17:00. The second group is cheaper and entirely unvetted. The third group is where we sit, and it is worth being exact about why.

Physics at Extended tier is a narrow specialism. The adult who can teach a Year 9 general science lesson well is not automatically the adult who can tell you that your son's Paper 4 marks are going on prefix conversion rather than on the physics. There are not many 0625 Extended specialists in any one Dubai community, and geography should not be the filter that decides which one your child gets. Removing the drive removes the radius, and the radius is the only reason an in-home search narrows your choice at all.

The honest trade-off is real and worth stating. An adult in the room can take a phone off a desk, notice a slumped shoulder, and keep a reluctant fifteen-year-old sitting down. A screen cannot do that as well. For a student who needs supervision more than they need physics, in-home has a genuine advantage, and we will say so on a call rather than sell past it. For a student who needs the specific marks on their specific script identified and repaired, the specialist matters more than the proximity, and that is the case this page is making.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625: the papers, the minutes and the marks

Everything about sensible revision follows from knowing which three papers your child is actually entered for. Cambridge IGCSE Physics is tiered. A Core candidate sits Paper 1 and Paper 3 and is capped at grade C. An Extended candidate sits Paper 2 and Paper 4 and can reach A*. Both then add one practical component: Paper 5, the laboratory test, or Paper 6, the written alternative to practical. The centre chooses which practical route it offers, and parents are frequently unaware a choice was made.

The weightings are the part worth memorising. The multiple-choice paper carries thirty per cent of the grade in forty questions, which means each question is worth a little under one per cent and a careless minute is expensive. The theory paper carries half the grade over eighty marks in seventy-five minutes, so the working rate is just over a mark a minute with no slack for a long detour. The practical component carries the remaining fifth. Students who treat Paper 6 as an afterthought are discarding a fifth of the grade in the component with the most predictable mark scheme in the whole syllabus.

The topic structure is six areas: motion, forces and energy; thermal physics; waves; electricity and magnetism; nuclear physics; and space physics. Those are not equally weighted in practice. Across recent Extended papers, motion and energy together with electricity and magnetism take the largest share of marks, while space physics and nuclear physics are smaller but highly predictable, which makes them the most efficient topics to secure first. Confirm the content and the paper arrangement for your child's series on the syllabus document at cambridgeinternational.org, because Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle and the version your school teaches is the one that counts.

The five causes of lost marks, and how each one shows on a script

  • Definition not known: specific mark-scheme wording missing from a correct idea
  • Equation not recalled: blank working with a plausible final number
  • Substitution error: correct method, value taken from the wrong line
  • Unit or prefix slip: answers out by factors of a thousand
  • Command term misread: accurate physics that answers a different question

Marking a few hundred 0625 scripts makes the pattern hard to miss. Lost marks almost never come from a student who has no idea what is happening. They come from five repeatable causes, and each leaves a different fingerprint on the page. The point of naming them is that each one has a different and much shorter repair than reteaching a topic.

The first is a definition not known. The answer gestures at the right idea in the student's own words and the mark scheme wanted a specific phrase, so a two-mark definition scores one or zero. The second is an equation not recalled, which shows as a blank space or a half-remembered symbol string followed by a correct-looking number that cannot be arrived at. The third is a substitution error: the right equation, the right rearrangement, and a value put in from the wrong line of the question. The fourth is a unit or prefix slip, which is the biggest single leak in this syllabus and shows as answers out by factors of a thousand, kilojoules treated as joules, centimetres never converted to metres.

The fifth is the command term. Describe wants what happens; explain wants why; suggest invites a reasoned possibility; compare requires both sides named in the same sentence. A student who reads all four as write what you know will produce a page of accurate physics and collect a fraction of the marks. That one is fixable in about two sessions, and it is usually worth more marks than any topic revision you could do in the same time. Which is why the cause list, and not the topic list, is what drives the plan.

Home tutor or online tutor for Dubai physics: what actually changes

The comparison most Dubai families are making is not online versus in-home in the abstract. It is this tutor who can reach my community versus that tutor who cannot. Once the question is put that way, the variables worth comparing are cost, the size of the pool you choose from, what happens to a diagram during the lesson, and what survives the lesson afterwards.

Travel is the hidden cost. An in-home rate quoted at AED 250 for sixty minutes includes a drive that may run forty minutes each way on a weekday evening, which is time you are paying for inside the hourly number. The same AED 250 paid for an online hour buys sixty minutes of a specialist's attention and no driving. That is before the second effect, which is availability: a tutor who is not driving can offer the 19:30 slot to a Marina family and the 20:30 slot to an Al Qusais family on the same evening, so the hard-to-fill times are easier to get.

Then there is the artefact. Physics is taught on a diagram, and a diagram drawn on a kitchen pad belongs to whoever picks the pad up. On a shared screen the circuit, the ray trace and the velocity-time graph are annotated in colour, saved, and sent with the session notes. A student revising in April can reopen the exact diagram from October. That matters more in this subject than in most, because the marks in waves and electricity are very often diagram marks.

What Dubai families pay for IGCSE Physics help, in AED

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the remaining ones quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. The table below is the market, assembled from rates those providers publish themselves and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table. None of these figures is an IB Gram price list. They are here so you can recognise an outlier when you are quoted one.

Read the bands as what you are buying rather than as a quality ladder. The budget band is generally a university student or a recent graduate working from the textbook, which can be entirely adequate for a Year 9 student consolidating general science and is rarely enough for Extended Paper 4 under timing. The middle band buys a qualified subject teacher. The specialist band buys someone who knows the 0625 mark scheme well enough to tell you which specific wording scored and which did not. The premium band at the top is named individuals and examiner-marketed tutors, and that is also the band where claims need the most scrutiny.

Two pieces of local context make the numbers mean something. Dubai's private school fees were frozen for the 2026-27 academic year, confirmed by KHDA in May 2026 under the emirate's economic incentives package, so a tutoring budget set last year has not been squeezed by a fee rise this year. And Dubai has 227 private schools serving 387,441 students across seventeen curricula, with the UK curriculum taking the largest share of enrolment, which is why physics tutoring demand in this city clusters hard around Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE rather than around any single school's internal scheme. For our own pricing, the next step is the free trial lesson and a short consultation rather than a published table, because the right session length and frequency for a Core Year 10 student and an Extended Year 11 student eight weeks from a series are not the same product.

Eight weeks of 0625 on paper: the evidence file

Progress in physics is not smooth and does not announce itself in a report card. A student can spend three weeks fixing prefix conversion and show no grade change at all, because the mark gain is hidden behind an untouched second problem. The only way to see it is to write it down. The sequence below is how a typical eight-week block runs, and what lands in your inbox at each stage.

The first fortnight produces the ranked cause list, built from one timed paper sat under exam conditions. Weeks three to six attack the top two causes only, which is the hardest discipline in the whole process: a parent watching a tutor spend four weeks on units and command terms while the school teaches nuclear physics will reasonably ask why. The answer is arithmetic. Repairing an eleven-mark leak is worth more than adding a four-mark topic, and it transfers to every paper afterwards.

Week seven is a full paper under timing, marked the same way as the first one, with the two cause lists side by side. That document is the point of the exercise. It shows whether the marks moved, where they moved from, and what the next block should attack. If the top cause has not moved by week seven, something in the approach is wrong, and we would rather find that in week seven than in a results envelope. No tutor can promise a grade; what can be promised is that you will know, every fortnight, exactly where the marks stand.

Paper 6: the cheapest fifth of the grade to recover

  • Tabulate with consistent decimal places before plotting anything
  • Choose a scale that fills more than half the grid in both directions
  • Name the specific measurement when asked for a source of error
  • An improvement must change the method, not the student's attitude

The alternative to practical carries a fifth of the IGCSE Physics grade and is, by a wide margin, the most predictable paper in the syllabus. It asks a student to read a scale, tabulate results, plot points, draw a line, identify a source of error and suggest an improvement. The same half-dozen tasks recur series after series. Despite that, it is the paper most Dubai students revise last, usually because the school teaches practical skills inside lessons rather than as a revision topic with its own past papers.

The marks lost on it are mechanical and fixable in a handful of sessions. Scales read to the wrong precision. A results table with inconsistent decimal places, which costs a mark before any physics is done. Axes chosen so the plotted points occupy a third of the grid, which costs the scale mark. A line of best fit drawn through the first and last points instead of through the trend. An improvement suggested as be more careful, which earns nothing because it is not a change to the method.

The error-and-improvement questions have their own grammar, and that is learnable. An acceptable source of error names a specific measurement and why it was imprecise. An acceptable improvement names a specific change that would reduce that imprecision: repeat and average, use a larger distance, insulate the beaker, view the scale at eye level to avoid parallax. Four to six sessions spent purely on this component is a smaller investment than any topic rescue, and it operates on a full fifth of the grade. For a student sitting Paper 5 in the school laboratory instead, the written preparation is similar but the timing work differs, so confirm the entry with the head of science before planning the block.

Counting backwards from a Cambridge series

  • Confirm your child's zone timetable with the exams officer, not from a forwarded file
  • Ask in the autumn term which tier and which practical paper the centre will enter
  • Final entries close months before the paper; tier changes close with them
  • Work the revision plan backwards from the series, not forwards from today

Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October windows. The decisions that shape your child's result sit months before the exam, and almost all of them belong to the school rather than to you. The useful habit is to work backwards from the series date and ask the centre a specific question at each milestone.

The chain runs further ahead than most families expect, and the two UAE series are not interchangeable. A June entry is the main sitting: final entries close in the spring, months before the first paper, and a tier or practical-route change closes with them, which is why the conversation with your head of science about tier and practical route belongs in the autumn term rather than the spring. November is the resit and catch-up sitting, and taking it costs a student most of an academic year, so treating it as a safety net is an expensive habit rather than a plan. Where a Dubai school enters Pearson Edexcel instead, the published dates show the same arithmetic in firm numbers: the November 2026 International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, roughly two months after the last paper. Take the exact Cambridge dates for your own series from the statement of entry your centre issues rather than from any date quoted on a website.

One administrative detail is worth knowing because it has consequences. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable for each. Its own guidance states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask the exams officer which zone your child's school sits in and work from that timetable alone, not from a PDF a friend forwarded from another country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, which several Dubai schools use instead, runs in May or June and in November, publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, and issued its June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026.

09

What a 0625 tutor may and may not do

  • No coursework in 0625: every mark is examined at the centre
  • A tutor marks and explains a student's own work and never produces it
  • Reference official syllabus and paper sources rather than redistributing them
  • MoHRE's private tuition work permit is free for two years under Resolution 710 of 2023

Cambridge IGCSE Physics has no coursework component, which removes the sharpest academic-honesty question from this subject. The marks all come from examinations sat under supervision at the centre. That does not leave the question of boundaries empty, and it is worth knowing where the lines sit before you hire anyone, because the market around these queries contains providers who cross them.

A tutor teaches, questions, marks and explains. A tutor does not sit a paper, does not supply material a centre has not released, and does not produce work that a student will submit as their own. For subjects that do carry an internal assessment or coursework, including the sciences at IB Diploma level, the same rule holds in a sharper form: a tutor may teach the method, discuss the plan and give feedback on a student's own draft, and may never write, complete or redraft it to submission. Any provider offering to produce an internal assessment is offering a malpractice route, and the student carries the consequence.

Two practical points round this out. First, syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are Cambridge's copyright material; a tutor should reference them and point to the official source rather than hand over a folder of redistributed PDFs. Second, private tutoring in the UAE is permitted but regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligibility extending to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals offering private tutoring in the UAE without that permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any page quoting a specific figure with caution. The application route is MoHRE's own service page for private tutor licensing.

KHDA, the school report and what an inspection band means for physics

  • KHDA oversees private education quality in Dubai and publishes banded inspection judgements
  • Ask how mocks have historically mapped to final grades at your child's centre
  • Dubai fees are frozen for 2026-27, confirmed by KHDA in May 2026
  • Seven new private schools and 16,846 new places arrive for 2026-27

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects schools and publishes a banded judgement, from Outstanding down to Very Weak, which families read as a league table. For a physics parent, the band is less useful than the detail underneath it, because an Outstanding school can still have a Year 11 physics set taught by a non-specialist in a year when recruitment went badly.

The more useful question for a 0625 family is what the school's own data says about this subject and this cohort. Ask for the physics set's internal assessment pattern, who is teaching it this year, and how mock grades have mapped onto final grades in the last two series at that centre. A school with a consistent pattern of mocks sitting a grade below finals is marking harshly on purpose, and a panic over a mock result in that context is wasted energy. A school where mocks have historically overstated the final grade is the one where a November mock at grade six deserves immediate attention.

Two further pieces of Dubai context shape the market your family is shopping in. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate will not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. And the sector keeps expanding: the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four following a UK curriculum and three offering the International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose six per cent. More UK-curriculum places means more 0625 candidates each year, which is exactly why specialist availability in the weeks before a series tightens, and why an early booking is worth more than a late one.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Delivery is online, so none of these notes are about drive times for our tutors. They are about when a 0625 session can realistically start in each part of Dubai, because the school run and the activity timetable decide that, and a session scheduled at a time your child is still in a car is a wasted session.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Large British and Indian school intakes, with many families running two or three school runs. Realistic physics slots start from 18:30 on weekdays, and Saturday mornings are the most requested window of the week for Year 11.

Arabian Ranches and The Springs

Villa communities feeding JESS Arabian Ranches and nearby British schools. Sport and swim squads dominate 16:00 to 18:00, so the workable 0625 pattern here is one long weekday evening session plus one weekend review.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Apartment living with shared study space at a premium. Headphones and a recorded lesson matter more here than anywhere else in the city, because a 19:00 physics session often happens in a room with a sibling in it.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short school runs and a dense cluster of British secondary schools, so afternoon starts from 16:30 are achievable. Families in this stretch tend to ask for two shorter sessions a week rather than one long one.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Barsha South

Newer family communities with a fast-growing Year 10 and Year 11 population. Mock season here clusters in late November and early March, which is when demand for Extended 0625 diagnostic work peaks.

Al Qusais and Deira

Older established neighbourhoods with heavy Indian-curriculum and mixed British intakes. Evening traffic through Al Ittihad Road makes a 17:00 start unreliable, so 19:00 and 20:00 slots are the dependable ones.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Serves families at the Silicon Oasis schools and the university cluster. Older siblings at university often share the study space, which makes recorded sessions and written summaries unusually useful here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

British-curriculum secondaries, central and coastal Dubai

Schools in this group typically run Extended 0625 as the default for upper sets and enter Paper 6 rather than Paper 5. Students we support from these schools most often arrive after a November mock, with electricity and prefix conversion as the presenting problem.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa British School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

British-curriculum secondaries, new communities and the southern corridor

A faster-growing group with wider ability spread, so Core and Extended entries sit side by side in one year group. Tier confirmation tends to land late here, which makes an early diagnostic paper more valuable than it is elsewhere.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • Hartland International School
  • Repton Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • South View School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Schools are named as context for the Dubai curriculum ecosystem that families ask us about; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the last marked script

Not the report card, the actual paper. A photograph of each page is enough. The script tells a physics specialist in ten minutes what a conversation takes an hour to approximate, and it means the first session can start from evidence rather than from introductions.

  2. 02

A short call about the paper, not the price

Twenty minutes to establish tier, centre, practical route, series and what the school has said. We will tell you on this call if the problem looks like supervision rather than physics, because in that case an online specialist is the wrong purchase and you should hear that before paying.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson with a diagnostic set

One full session at no cost and with no card details taken. Your child works through a short set of Extended questions chosen to separate recall problems from method problems, and you receive the marked set afterwards whether or not you continue with us.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the school timetable

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time at a fixed weekday or weekend hour, chosen around the school run, activities and the school's own assessment calendar. Mock weeks are planned around in advance rather than rescheduled in a hurry when they arrive.

  5. 05

    A marked return every fortnight

A timed section sat, marked against the mark scheme, tagged by cause, and returned with a running topic tally. At week seven the full paper and the two cause lists go side by side, which is the document that decides what the next block does.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Marking comes before teaching

The first thing that happens is a paper sat under timing and marked against the published scheme. Everything after that is chosen from the cause list it produces. It is slower to start and considerably faster to move marks than beginning with chapter one.

Matched by syllabus code, not by subject label

Physics 0625 Extended, Physics 0625 Core, Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 and Pearson 4PH1 are different papers with different mark schemes. The match is made on the code your child's centre has entered them for, which is the question we ask before anything else.

The work stays the student's own

A tutor explains, questions, marks and models method. A tutor never produces work a student will hand in. In this subject that mostly means practice papers are your child's handwriting and nobody else's, which is also the only way the marked diagnosis means anything.

A written record you can use elsewhere

Marked scripts, cause lists and topic tallies accumulate into something you can take to a parents' evening and set beside the school's data. Families use it most often to open a conversation about tier entry or set placement with specific numbers attached.

Honest about delivery and about availability

Lessons are live online over video; we do not place tutors in UAE homes. When no Extended 0625 specialist is free in the slot you need, you will be told that and offered the alternatives rather than matched with whoever is available that evening.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

My son's 0625 mock came back at 48 per cent. What should I send a tutor first?+

Send the script itself, page by page, rather than the grade. A percentage tells a physics specialist almost nothing: 48 per cent on Extended Paper 4 could be a student who lost eleven marks to prefix conversion and otherwise understands the syllabus, or one who has not secured a single definition in electricity. Those need different terms of work. With the marked paper in hand, a tutor can tag the lost marks by cause within about ten minutes and tell you on the first call whether this is a content problem, a method problem or an exam-technique problem. Photographs of each page are perfectly adequate.

Which mark scheme do you mark my child's 0625 practice papers against?+

Against the published Cambridge mark scheme for the paper your child sat, with the relevant wording quoted back in the margin so you can see exactly which phrase earned the mark and which one did not. That matters more than a total. A student who writes the current gets bigger instead of the current increases has produced the right idea and the wrong answer, and seeing the two side by side fixes it in one session. We reference and point to official Cambridge sources rather than redistributing syllabus or paper documents, which are Cambridge copyright material.

Does an in-home physics tutor in Dubai really cost more than an online one?+

In this market, yes, and the difference is mostly travel. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors commonly quote AED 200 to 500, with the drive built into the number. Online rates for a qualified subject tutor run around AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Those are the market's published figures, not an IB Gram price list. The practical effect of the gap is roughly one extra session a month for the same monthly spend.

Can my daughter move from Core to Extended 0625 during Year 11?+

Sometimes, and the deadline is administrative rather than academic. Tier is part of the entry the centre submits to Cambridge, and final entries close months before the examination period. Once that window shuts, the tier is fixed for that series. So the conversation to have with the head of science is in the autumn term, not after a spring mock. Bring evidence: a marked Extended paper section showing she can access the grades above C is a far stronger case than a request. If the window has closed, the realistic options are the next series or a different route post-16.

Is Paper 5 or Paper 6 better for my child, and do we get to choose?+

The centre chooses, not the family. Paper 5 is the practical test sat in the school laboratory over seventy-five minutes; Paper 6 is the written alternative to practical over sixty minutes. Both carry a fifth of the grade and both examine the same skills: reading instruments, tabulating, plotting, identifying error, suggesting improvement. Students who are confident with apparatus often prefer Paper 5; students who freeze with equipment in front of them usually score better on the written route. Ask your head of science which one the centre enters, because the revision work differs in timing even though the content overlaps heavily.

How many marks does a unit or prefix slip actually cost across a 0625 paper?+

On the scripts we mark it is routinely the largest single leak, and it compounds because the same habit recurs in every numerical topic. Centimetres left unconverted in a density calculation, kilojoules treated as joules in a thermal question, milliamps entered as amps in a circuit question: each is one or two marks, and a paper can hold half a dozen of them. The repair is mechanical rather than conceptual, usually two sessions plus short drills, and it transfers to every paper your child sits afterwards. Which is why it generally gets attacked before any topic revision.

What does calculate want in 0625 that determine does not?+

Calculate expects a numerical answer reached by working you can see, with the unit attached. Determine often expects you to extract a value from supplied data or a graph first, then use it, so the reading step itself carries marks. Describe asks what happens; explain asks why, and an answer with no causal link scores nothing even when every fact in it is correct. Suggest invites a reasoned possibility rather than a remembered fact. A student who treats these as interchangeable writes accurate physics and collects a fraction of the marks available, and two focused sessions usually corrects it.

My child understands physics in class but freezes in the exam. Is that a 0625 content problem?+

Usually not. Freezing shows up as a specific pattern on a script: strong early questions, blank or abandoned working in the second half, and marks lost on long structured items rather than on multiple choice. That is a timing and sequencing problem. The theory paper runs at just over a mark a minute across eighty marks in seventy-five minutes, so a four-minute detour on one part costs the last question entirely. The work is timed sections rather than more content: question triage, a rule for abandoning a stuck part, and practice at the real rate rather than untimed at the kitchen table.

How soon after starting should I expect to see the grade move?+

Expect to see the marks move before the grade does, and expect to see it in writing at week seven. A fortnight of repair work on unit conversion can lift a paper total by eight or nine marks without crossing a grade boundary, which looks like nothing on a report and is substantial progress. That is exactly why the week-seven document puts the first and second cause lists side by side. No tutor can promise a grade in a given series, and anyone who does is selling something they cannot deliver. What is reliable is that you will know where the marks stand every fortnight.

Do your physics tutors hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit?+

Ask, and check, for any tutor you consider anywhere in this market. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years, with eligibility covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Where a tutor is resident in the UAE and giving private lessons here, that is the relevant document. Individuals tutoring in the UAE without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published.

We live in Mirdif and weekday evenings are tight. What time can a 0625 session start?+

From around 18:30 on a weekday is the realistic answer for most Mirdif and Al Warqa families, because two school runs and an activity slot usually occupy the window before that. Saturday morning is the single most requested slot of the week among Year 11 families in that part of Dubai, so it books out earliest. Because lessons are delivered online, the start time is set by your household rather than by a tutor's route across the city, which is the main scheduling advantage: a 19:30 slot is as easy to staff as a 16:30 one.

Can the same tutor take 0625 Physics and 0580 Maths for one child?+

Often yes, and in this particular pairing it is frequently the better arrangement. A large share of lost physics marks are really maths marks: rearranging an equation, handling standard form, reading a gradient off an awkward axis. A tutor who sees both papers can fix the algebra inside the physics question rather than treating them as separate projects. The limit is time, not capability. Two subjects at Extended tier in Year 11 need two slots a week, and a single session split between them tends to do neither properly in the weeks before a series.

What happens if no Extended 0625 specialist is free in the slot we need?+

You get told. The honest position is that physics at Extended tier is a narrow specialism and the weeks before a June or November series are when availability tightens, because every centre's candidates want the same evenings. If the slot you need is unavailable, the options are a different time with the right specialist, a waiting position for the slot you want, or a referral elsewhere. What will not happen is a match with a generalist presented as a physics specialist, which is the quiet failure mode across this market.

Is it too late to start 0625 work in February before a June series?+

No, but the work changes shape. February is too late to reteach six topic areas and early enough to repair exam technique, secure the predictable topics and recover the practical paper. In that window the sensible plan is a diagnostic paper in the first week, then the top two mark-loss causes, then Paper 6 as a self-contained block because it is a fifth of the grade with the most predictable mark scheme in the syllabus. What February cannot absorb is a tier change, since final entries close months before the examination period.

Should we wait for the November series instead of entering in June?+

That decision belongs to the school, and it is driven by entry deadlines rather than by readiness. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and the entry window for each closes well in advance, so a deferral is a conversation to have with the exams officer early rather than a choice to make after a disappointing mock. Weigh it against the post-16 timetable too: a November result arrives after most Dubai sixth-form and Diploma places have been offered, which can matter more than the extra months of preparation.

Start with the script, not with a sales call

If your child is sitting Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 at a Dubai school and the last mock came back below expectation, the fastest useful step is to send the paper. We will tag the lost marks by cause, tell you what the pattern suggests, and book a free trial lesson with no card details taken. Lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, with the shared screen used for circuits and graphs and a marked script returned every fortnight. If the diagnosis points somewhere other than tutoring, we will say so on the call.
