IB DP Math AA SL Online Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP math AA SL online tutor in Dubai is usually hired after a Paper 1 mark lands lower than the school report suggested, and the first question a parent asks is what an hour should cost. This page publishes the AED bands the Dubai market charges, names what pushes a quote up or down in this emirate, and prices the five AA SL topics separately so you can see which hours are worth buying. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every AED band on this page names the provider that published it
  • One free trial lesson first, with no card details taken
  • Paper 1 is sat without technology, so sessions practise that condition
  • Lessons run online one-to-one; IB Gram runs no UAE centre

What an AA SL hour costs in Dubai, and what the money is actually buying

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level carries 150 teaching hours, two examination papers of ninety minutes each, and one internal exploration marked out of 20. The two papers take 40% and 40% of the final grade; the exploration takes the remaining 20%. That arithmetic matters before any money changes hands, because it tells you where a paid hour can move a grade and where it cannot. A family buying ten hours of general revision for a child whose Paper 1 technique is the actual problem has bought the wrong ten hours at any price.

In Dubai the quoted price for those hours spans a factor of ten. Published market figures run from AED 33 to AED 65 an hour at the budget end of online platforms, through AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, up to AED 500 and beyond for a named premium tutor. The in-home one-to-one band in this emirate is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 once travel sits inside the figure. None of those are IB Gram prices. They are what the market publishes, and the first table below attributes each band to the provider that published it and the month it was read.

What separates an AED 120 hour from an AED 400 hour is rarely the tutor's degree. It is whether the hour is planned against a specific component, whether written work comes back marked, and whether the teaching follows the current AA guide rather than the course that preceded it. A Standard Level brief priced as a Higher Level one is also common in this market. AA HL adds Paper 3, a sixty-minute paper of two compulsory extended-response problems, and ninety more teaching hours. An SL family paying an HL rate is paying for a paper their child will never sit.

Dubai's own school economics frame the decision. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate will not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family already committed to a fixed annual fee, a weekly maths hour is the marginal spend that still moves, and it is worth sizing against that fee rather than considered on its own. The cost-in-context section below does that sum with the published Dubai school-market figures rather than invented ones.

This page is written for the parent doing those sums. It prices AA SL topic by topic, says plainly what the exploration adds to an hours estimate, and explains the two cost lines almost nobody quotes: marking time, and the travel a Dubai in-home arrangement has to absorb somewhere. Lessons themselves run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school day. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; those are an India-only service, and the comparison table states what that choice costs and what it saves.

At a glance

  • Paper 1 (90 minutes, no technology) and Paper 2 (90 minutes, technology) each carry 40% of the grade
  • The mathematical exploration is 20 marks across five criteria, lettered A to E
  • Market online rates for IB maths in Dubai sit roughly in the AED 150-300 band
  • In-home rates quoted across Dubai run AED 180-500 once travel is priced in
  • AA SL is 150 teaching hours; AA HL is 240 and adds a third paper
  • KHDA has confirmed no private school fee increase in Dubai for 2026-27
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

AA SL sits inside the Diploma Programme, which most Dubai IB students reach either from the Middle Years Programme or from IGCSE at a British-curriculum school. The three stages below determine what a maths hour costs at each point, because the assessment load, and therefore the marking a tutor absorbs, differs sharply between them.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Every Diploma candidate takes a mathematics course, and AA SL is the route for students who want algebraic fluency and calculus without the extra ninety hours of HL content. Two ninety-minute papers and one exploration make up the grade. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which is the single most expensive habit to retrain late: a student who has done two years of homework with a graphical display calculator in hand needs deliberate, timed, technology-free practice, and that practice is what the hours get spent on.

In Dubai the DP is the endpoint for a minority of the private-school population: the International Baccalaureate accounts for 7 per cent of enrolment against 37 per cent for UK curricula. That ratio has a pricing consequence. There are fewer DP maths specialists per thousand students in this emirate than IGCSE maths tutors, so DP rates in Dubai sit above IGCSE rates at every tier, and an SL-specific brief is worth stating clearly so you are not quoted for HL.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria rather than papers, so a student can arrive in AA SL with a strong MYP record and a weak grip on algebraic manipulation. The honest version of the cost question here is that MYP 4 and 5 support is cheaper per hour than DP support and tends to shorten the DP bill later. Most of the AA SL work that hurts in DP1, surd and index manipulation, rearranging before differentiating, is MYP-level technique under exam pressure.

Dubai runs a large MYP cohort across the IB continuum schools in Al Barsha, Nad Al Sheba and Mirdif, and families often buy their first maths hours in MYP 5 when subject choices are being made. The practical Dubai point is timing: MYP 5 sessions can start straight after a 3pm finish, while DP1 students carrying the exploration and a Diploma timetable usually need a 6pm or 7pm slot, which is the busiest and least discounted part of a tutor's week.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE to DP maths bridge

Most AA SL students in Dubai arrive from IGCSE rather than MYP, and the gap is specific rather than general. IGCSE Extended maths rewards procedure; AA SL rewards justification, exact values in radians, and reading a question that does not say which method to use. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 closes much of that gap, and a student who has sat it generally needs fewer paid hours in DP1 than one who has not, which is a real saving rather than a sales line.

Dubai is heavily British by enrolment, so the IGCSE-to-DP bridge is the commonest transition a Dubai maths tutor is asked to handle. Families who buy four or five bridging hours in the summer between Year 11 and DP1 report a cheaper DP1 than those who wait for the first reported grade in November. The bridge is also the point to settle the AA or AI question, because switching course after the first term costs taught hours that nobody refunds.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

AA SL is the subject in the URL, and the grid below shows it alongside the other Diploma subjects Dubai families most often add to the same timetable. Each description is written around the component that absorbs tutoring hours, because that is what determines the size of the bill rather than the subject's reputation.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

SL is 150 hours over two ninety-minute papers plus the exploration; HL is 240 hours and adds the sixty-minute Paper 3. The expensive component at SL is Paper 1, because technology-free algebra and calculus need timed drilling rather than explanation. Ask any quote to state whether it is priced for SL or HL.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

AI allows a calculator in both papers and weights statistics far more heavily than AA. Hours here go on modelling and on writing conclusions in context, not on manual algebra. A student quoted an AA rate for AI work, or the reverse, is being priced by level and not by course.

Physics

HL and SL

Physics shares its mathematics with AA, so a weak AA SL algebra base shows up twice on a report. Paper 1B is the data-analysis section where uncertainty and gradient work decide marks, and it is the cheapest part of Physics to fix because the technique is narrow and testable.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Chemistry hours concentrate on calculation chains, moles into concentration into yield, and on the scientific investigation. A family already paying for AA SL often finds the chemistry calculation problem disappears once the algebra does, which is worth testing before buying a second subject's hours.

Biology

HL and SL

The marking load here is the highest of the sciences because extended-response answers need to be read closely rather than scanned. Statistics, standard deviation, error bars and correlation, is where AA SL and Biology overlap, and one tutor can sometimes cover both without a second hourly rate.

Economics

HL and SL

Economics is diagram-and-definition work plus three internal commentaries, so the hours split between technique and coursework supervision. Dubai students often take Economics alongside AA SL for business degree routes, and the quantitative HL paper is where the AA habits pay for themselves.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study work rewards structure over content recall, so sessions are short and frequent rather than long. Costs tend to be lower per hour than maths or physics in the Dubai market because the specialist pool is deeper, which makes it a useful subject to pair into the same weekly slot.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The solution component dominates the hours, and the rest is pseudocode discipline that sits very close to AA SL algebra. Dubai has a thin specialist pool at HL, so availability rather than price is usually the constraint, and we say so before you commit to a slot.

Design Technology

HL and SL

A design-cycle subject where the internal work is most of the grade, so hours are spent on process discipline and on evidencing iteration. The maths load is light, which is why it is a common partner subject for a student whose paid hours are already going into AA SL.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways Dubai families buy AA SL hours, each priced differently because each absorbs a different amount of preparation and marking. The trial hour comes before all of them, and nothing is charged until after it has happened.

One diagnostic hour, priced as one hour

A single session with a recent Paper 1 or a mock script in front of both of you. The output is a written note naming the specific topics losing marks and an estimate of the hours each needs. Families who start here usually buy fewer hours in total, because the spend goes where the marks are rather than across the whole syllabus.

  • One hour, one marked script, one written diagnosis
  • No commitment to a weekly slot afterwards
  • Useful immediately before a school parents' evening

A component block bought against one paper

A fixed number of hours aimed at Paper 1 or at Paper 2 rather than at the subject. Paper 1 blocks are drilled without technology; Paper 2 blocks are drilled with the calculator the student will actually take into the exam room. The block is agreed in advance, so the total is known before the first session rather than after the fifth.

  • Typically four to six hours per paper
  • Timed questions under exam conditions in every session
  • The student's own calculator model, not a generic one

A weekly hour with marking inside the fee

The standard arrangement for a DP1 or DP2 student. One hour a week in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, with between-session work set and returned marked to the markscheme. Marking is not billed separately, which matters because a tutor who charges for marking time has an incentive to set very little of it.

  • A fixed weekly slot held for the term
  • Written work returned marked before the next session
  • A short note after each session, in plain language

Exploration supervision, counted in hours

Support for the mathematical exploration is sold as hours, not as a package with a page count attached. Sessions interrogate the student's topic choice, the mathematics behind it and the quality of the reflection. Nobody on our side types any part of the document; the file that goes to the school is the student's own from first line to last.

  • Topic viability checked before the student invests weeks in it
  • Feedback aimed at the criterion letters, not at prose polish
  • Every word in the submitted file is the student's own

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the Dubai market charges for AA SL, and who publishes each figure

A qualified AA SL tutor working online in Dubai is advertised in the AED 150 to AED 300 band as of October 2026. Below that sit budget online platforms from roughly AED 33 to AED 65. Above it sit specialist agencies at AED 200 to AED 450 and named premium tutors at AED 500 and more. In-home one-to-one across Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500, with the drive absorbed inside the hourly figure rather than itemised. Those are published market rates, and each row in the table names its source and the month it was read.

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this search publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts school costs in. That is the reason this page leads with a table instead of a promise. A parent comparing four providers needs a number, a unit, a currency and a date, and the absence of all four is what makes the Dubai tutoring market feel arbitrary when it is actually fairly predictable.

Read the table by what the hour includes rather than by the headline figure. An AED 160 hour with no marking and no planning time is often more expensive per mark gained than an AED 240 hour that returns a scored script each week, because the cheaper hour pushes all the diagnostic work back onto you. The monthly package rows exist because they are what Dubai providers actually advertise, and they are the cleanest way to compare a weekly online arrangement against a fortnightly home visit.

IB Gram does not publish a fixed price list on these pages, and that is deliberate rather than coy. The rate for an AA SL match depends on the component, the hours and the specialist, and quoting a single number for 150 hours of syllabus would be the same sleight of hand the market already runs. The trial lesson happens first, the rate is agreed in writing before the second session, and the bands below tell you whether what you are quoted is normal for this emirate.

Pricing AA SL by topic: which hours actually move the grade

The AA SL guide allocates its 150 hours unevenly, and so should your spending. Calculus takes 28 hours of teaching, statistics and probability 27, geometry and trigonometry 25, functions 21 and number and algebra 19, with a further 30 hours for the toolkit and the exploration. A parent who knows those weightings can ask a far better question than how much per hour. The better question is which of those five blocks is losing marks, and how many hours that block realistically needs.

The failure patterns are consistent enough to budget against. In number and algebra, marks go on logarithm laws applied in the wrong direction and on sequences where the first term is misidentified. In functions, on transformation order and on inverse notation. In geometry and trigonometry, on working in degrees when the question is in radians. In statistics, on conditional probability and on describing a regression line without reference to the context given. In calculus, on the chain rule and on the signs in kinematics problems.

The right-hand column of the table converts hours into money at AED 200, which sits in the middle of the Dubai online band. It is market arithmetic, not an IB Gram price list, and it exists so you can see the shape of a sensible budget. Two or three hours of logarithm repair is a few hundred dirhams. A full calculus rebuild in DP2 is over a thousand. The exploration is the largest single line, which is why it has a section of its own further down.

Spending in this order is almost always cheaper than spending evenly. Fix the technique that appears in every paper first, which means algebra and calculus, then buy exam-condition practice, then spend on the exploration. Families who reverse that order pay for exploration supervision while Paper 1 marks continue to leak, and the final grade reflects the leak rather than the document.

The exploration is 20 marks, and it is bought in hours rather than pages

The mathematical exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria, and in AA SL it carries a fifth of the final grade. Criterion A rewards presentation, B mathematical communication, C personal engagement, D reflection and E the use of mathematics, with six of the twenty marks sitting on E alone. The IB recommends a piece of roughly twelve to twenty pages. Nothing in that structure rewards length, which is the first thing worth knowing before anyone is paid for help with it.

The cost question here has an honest answer and a dishonest one. The dishonest version is a fixed fee for a finished document, which is what the essay mills in this search sell, at prices up to several thousand dirhams. That is academic malpractice under IB rules, it is the student who faces the consequence, and no reputable provider in Dubai should be offering it. The honest version is hours: time spent interrogating a topic choice, teaching the mathematics the student has chosen to use, and reading a draft against the criterion letters.

In practice six to eight hours spread across DP1 term three and DP2 term one covers most students. The expensive mistake is a topic chosen in week one that cannot carry SL-level mathematics, discovered in week nine. One hour spent testing viability before the student commits saves five hours later, and that is the single highest-return hour on this whole page.

The boundary is simple and we state it on every page. A tutor may ask questions, teach a technique in a parallel example, point at an undefined symbol, and say where a reader loses the thread. The student makes every choice and types every word. Schools in Dubai run their own internal deadlines and their own authenticity checks, and a document that does not sound like the student who submitted it is the one thing guaranteed to attract attention.

Online hours against a Dubai doorstep: the arithmetic of travel

Somebody always pays for the drive. In an in-home arrangement the travel sits inside the hourly rate, which is why the Dubai in-home band starts at AED 180 and runs to AED 500 while the online band starts lower. A tutor crossing from the Marina to Mirdif at five in the afternoon is committing ninety minutes to deliver sixty, and no pricing model absorbs that for free. It shows up as a higher rate, a two-hour minimum, or a tutor drawn only from the immediate neighbourhood.

That last consequence is the one that costs marks rather than money. Restricting the search to AA SL specialists who live within a sensible drive of your community shrinks the pool to whoever is nearby and free, in an emirate where the Diploma is 7 per cent of private enrolment. A family in Al Qusais looking for a tutor who has taught the current AA guide and marked Paper 1 scripts is choosing from a handful of people if distance is a filter, and from a far larger group if it is not.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and no sentence on this site should suggest otherwise for a UAE family. What a Dubai family gets instead is a one-to-one hour over live video, on a shared screen where the tutor and the student write on the same page, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the script marked and returned between sessions. The table sets that against the alternatives on cost, logistics and tutor pool.

The case is not that online is always better. It is that for a two-year DP course with a fixed weekly slot, the household that removes the drive removes the commonest reason sessions get cancelled in Dubai, which is traffic rather than reluctance. A cancelled hour in exam term is the most expensive hour there is, because it is the one that does not get replaced.

Tutoring cost in context: Dubai fees, the freeze and the marginal hour

Dubai's private school sector enrolled 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula. UK curricula took 37 per cent of students, Indian 26 per cent, American 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. Those proportions explain the shape of the tutoring market in this emirate: a deep pool of IGCSE and CBSE maths tutors, a much shallower one of Diploma AA specialists, and prices that follow scarcity rather than difficulty.

The fee position for 2026-27 is unusual and worth planning around. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a household whose largest education line is now fixed for a year, the tutoring decision is a marginal one, and marginal decisions deserve a number rather than a feeling.

Supply is also moving. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four following UK curricula and three offering the International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. More IB seats in the emirate means more Diploma students competing for the same thin pool of AA specialists, and the practical effect of that on a Dubai family is availability in the 6pm to 8pm window rather than price.

Set against the school fee, a weekly AA SL hour at the middle of the Dubai online band is a small fraction of annual spend and the only part of it you can aim precisely. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 for specialist exam-year support. Those are the brackets to hold in your head when a provider quotes you a monthly figure without an hourly one.

06

Who may legally charge you for a maths hour in Dubai

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

Individuals offering private tutoring without that permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, so any page quoting you a specific figure is guessing, and we will not repeat the number that circulates. The useful thing for a parent is the question, not the penalty: ask the person you are paying whether they hold a private tuition work permit, and ask what their status was when they applied.

Two further limits matter in this emirate and the one next door. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the tutor's own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar; that is press-reported and worth checking against the current ADEK document before anyone states it as settled wording. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity again, and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute.

IB Gram holds no such permit, runs no premises in the UAE, and does not present itself as endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board. We match students to tutors and we deliver lessons online. Saying that plainly is more useful to a Dubai parent than the regulator logos several pages in this search display without the underlying permit to justify them.

The AA SL year counted backwards, and what each stage costs

Dubai DP students sit the May session, and the spending pattern across a Diploma year is predictable enough to plan. DP1 term one is cheap because nothing is assessed externally yet and the technique problems are still small. DP1 term three is where exploration hours begin. DP2 term one is the most expensive stretch of the two years, because mocks, predicted grades and the exploration deadline all land inside a few weeks. By March of DP2 the cost of a new tutor rises sharply, because the remaining slots in the Dubai market are the expensive ones.

We publish no IB examination or results dates on this site. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so every date a page could state would be second-hand, and a wrong date in a revision plan is worse than no date. Confirm your child's session window, internal deadlines and upload dates with the school's IB coordinator, and with the assessment pages on ibo.org, before you build a schedule around them.

Where dates are published by the board itself, they illustrate how early the real deadlines sit and how long the tail runs afterwards. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE gives the fullest published picture: the June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, while the November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026 — roughly two months after the papers in both cases. The November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026, and entries for it closed long before it opened in late October. Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June series, with November as the resit route, and the same shape applies: entries close in the spring, forecast grades are collected ahead of the papers, and results and certificates follow weeks after the last one. The pattern is the same for any board: entries close months before anyone sits anything, and nothing about the result is quick.

Two Dubai-specific items belong in the plan. Ramadan shifts the household rhythm, and sessions that move to a post-Iftar slot keep running where sessions that simply pause do not resume. And Dubai schools set their own mock windows, usually in DP2 term one or early term two, which is the moment a diagnostic hour is worth most because a real script finally exists to mark.

08

Spending nothing first: what to do before you pay anyone

  • Ask the school for the next assessment date before buying any hours
  • Read the school's published KHDA inspection band; it is free
  • Sit one timed, technology-free Paper 1 at home and keep the script
  • Take the free trial lesson before agreeing any rate
  • Ask any provider for a rate per hour, in AED, with marking stated

Several of the useful moves cost nothing. The subject teacher's own clinic, usually a lunchtime or after-school slot, is free and specific to the school's scheme of work. The school's published assessment calendar tells you when the next real data point arrives. KHDA inspection reports are public and tell you the band the school sits in on a six-point scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, which is context for whether a reported grade reflects the cohort or the child.

The next free thing is a timed paper done honestly at the kitchen table. Ninety minutes, no calculator for Paper 1, no notes, and a parent timing it. Most families discover something from that hour they would otherwise have paid a tutor to tell them, which is that the problem is pace, or algebra, or a specific topic, rather than maths in general. Keep the script. It is the thing that makes the first paid hour useful.

Then there is the trial lesson. IB Gram gives one free trial lesson before any payment, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue, and the point of it is that you watch a specific tutor work with your specific child rather than reading claims about tutors in general. If the match is wrong, say so and we change it or tell you we cannot.

On availability we would rather be dull than optimistic. AA SL at Standard Level is well covered, and a match in Dubai typically takes a few days. If no specialist is free in the slot you need, we say that, and the options are a different slot, a tutor in another time zone whose evening is your afternoon, or a wait. What we will not do is put a general maths tutor in front of a Diploma student and let the rate imply a specialism that is not there.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

AA SL students in Dubai are spread across the emirate, and because this page is about cost it is worth saying what the geography does to a price. An online hour costs the same from any of these communities. An in-home hour does not, because somebody has to pay for the drive at the exact hour Dubai traffic is worst.

Dubai Marina

Dense towers, short walks to school, and the highest in-home quotes in the emirate because parking and lift time are real minutes. A 5pm online slot starts at 5pm here; an in-home 5pm slot is often agreed as 5.30pm.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Lower published in-home rates than the Marina, but a longer drive from where most DP maths specialists live, which usually reappears as a minimum two-hour booking. Families here most often choose online for that reason alone.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villa communities with strong school access and a school-run finish around 3.15pm. The practical effect on cost is that a 4pm slot is genuinely available, which is the cheapest part of a tutor's week to book.

Mirdif

A long-established family district on the eastern side, well served by IB continuum schools. In-home quotes here carry a Marina-to-Mirdif crossing that nobody enjoys at 5pm, so the online saving is largest in this part of Dubai.

Al Qusais

Older, well-connected and metro-served, with a mixed curriculum intake. Group tuition centres are common and cheap per head here, which makes it the area where the group-versus-one-to-one cost question comes up most often.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Academic City sits next door, so tutor supply is better than the drive time suggests. Evening slots fill early because the student population is large, and late bookings in exam term are the ones that attract premium rates.

The Springs and The Meadows

Low-rise villa communities feeding the Arabian Ranches and Al Barsha school corridor. Household bookings for two siblings are common here, and a shared slot is the one legitimate way to lower the cost per child.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai: Al Barsha to the Marina

The densest IB corridor in the emirate, with several Diploma cohorts within a few kilometres. Students we support from this corridor typically need AA SL help on Paper 1 technique in DP1 and on exploration structure in the first term of DP2.

  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy

Central and eastern Dubai

A broader spread of IB continuum and Diploma schools from Nad Al Sheba through to Deira. Session timing matters more here than in the west, because school finish times and the crossing to central Dubai shape which evening slots a family can realistically hold each week.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai

Named schools are listed as context for Dubai families choosing support; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them and claims no endorsement from any school or school group.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marks, not the worry

Tell us the level, the school, the last two maths grades and which paper is weaker. A photograph of a marked script is worth more than a paragraph of description, because it shows whether marks are lost on method, on accuracy or on time. That single message is usually enough to brief a tutor properly.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial hour

One lesson, free, no card details taken, and no commitment afterwards. Your child works with the tutor we propose rather than with a sample lesson. Sit in for the first ten minutes if you want to; most parents do once and then stop, which is the outcome we are aiming for.

  3. 03

Agree the component and the hours

Before the second session we put in writing what the hours are aimed at, how many of them we think it takes, and the rate per hour in AED. A plan that cannot name a component is not a plan. If the estimate turns out wrong, we revise it in front of you rather than quietly extending it.

  4. 04

Run the weekly hour with the marking inside it

A fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, work set between sessions, and that work returned marked to the markscheme before the next lesson. The note after each session names what was covered and what is still wrong. Marking is not a separate line on anything you receive.

  5. 05

Review the spend at six weeks

Six weeks in, we look at the marked scripts together and make one of three decisions: continue as we are, change the component the hours are aimed at, or stop because the problem is fixed. Stopping is a legitimate outcome and we will say so when the evidence supports it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every AED figure here names its source

The rate bands on this page are attributed to the provider that published them and the month they were read, because a price without a source is decoration. You can check each one. That also means you can tell whether a quote you receive elsewhere sits inside the Dubai market or outside it.

A Standard Level brief priced as Standard Level

AA SL is 150 hours and two papers. AA HL is 240 hours and three. Quoting an SL student at an HL rate is common in this market and easy to spot once you know the difference. We write the level into the plan so the rate attaches to the course your child is actually sitting.

No travel on anyone's invoice

Lessons run online one-to-one, so no part of what you pay covers a drive across Dubai at five in the afternoon. The practical gain is not only the money. It is that the session on the worst traffic day of the week still happens, which is the hour families most often lose.

Marking sits inside the hour

Written work comes back scored against the markscheme without a separate charge. A tutor billing for marking time has a quiet incentive to set very little of it, and the marked script is the only evidence either of us has about whether the hours are working.

A stated boundary on the exploration

We teach technique, question topic choices and read drafts against the criterion letters. The student makes every decision and types every word of what is submitted. The essay mills in this search sell finished documents for thousands of dirhams; that route puts the student's diploma at risk, not the seller's.

An honest answer when nobody is free

If no AA SL specialist can cover your slot, we say so and offer a different time, a tutor in another time zone, or a wait. Filling the gap with a general maths tutor while charging a specialist rate is the quiet failure mode of this market, and it is the one families discover last.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is a fair hourly rate for an AA SL tutor in Dubai right now?+

As of October 2026, a qualified subject tutor working online in Dubai advertises roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, and an IB specialist AED 200 to AED 450. Below that, budget platforms publish AED 33 to AED 65 for short or shared slots. Above it, named premium tutors advertise AED 500 and more. A rate inside the AED 180 to AED 320 band for one-to-one online AA SL support with marking included is normal for this emirate. Ask what the figure includes before comparing two of them, because an hour without marking is a different product.

Why does Paper 1 cost more tutoring time than Paper 2 in AA SL?+

Paper 1 is sat without technology. A student who has spent two years doing homework with a graphical display calculator within reach has to rebuild manual algebra, exact trigonometric values and differentiation by hand, under time pressure. That is retraining rather than explaining, and retraining takes repeated timed practice across several weeks. Paper 2 allows the calculator, so the work there is mostly about reading questions accurately and using the machine efficiently. Both papers carry 40% of the grade, but the hours needed are rarely split evenly, and most AA SL families end up spending more on the technology-free paper.

How many hours of AA SL support does a Dubai student usually buy in a term?+

A weekly hour across a Dubai school term comes to about twelve to fourteen sessions, and that is the commonest arrangement for a DP1 student with one weak topic area. A DP2 student working through mocks, the exploration and exam technique together more often buys a weekly hour plus a block of four to six before each mock window. Starting with one diagnostic hour and a marked script is cheaper than committing to a term in advance, because the diagnosis usually narrows the work to two topics rather than five.

Is AA SL cheaper to tutor than AA HL, and by how much?+

Per hour, specialists in the Dubai market usually quote the same rate for both, or a modest premium for HL. The real difference is in how many hours a course needs. AA HL is 240 teaching hours against 150 at SL, and it adds Paper 3, a sixty-minute paper of two compulsory extended-response problems worth 20% of the grade. An HL student therefore has more syllabus and one more assessment format to prepare. If a provider quotes you an HL rate for an SL student, say which course your child sits and ask for the quote again.

Does supporting the mathematical exploration cost extra?+

It is sold as hours, and those hours are inside the same rate rather than a separate product with a page count attached. Most AA SL students need six to eight hours spread between the third term of DP1 and the first term of DP2. The expensive version is the one that goes wrong: a topic chosen in week one that cannot carry Standard Level mathematics, discovered in week nine. One hour testing viability early saves several later. Any provider offering a fixed fee for a finished document is selling malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student.

Do Dubai tutors charge more for a session that starts after 7pm?+

Many do, and the reason is supply rather than greed. Between 6pm and 8pm every Diploma family in the emirate wants the same slot, and a tutor with a full diary prices the scarcest hours accordingly. Families in communities with an early school finish, such as Dubai Hills Estate or The Springs, can often hold a 4pm or 4.30pm slot, which is the cheapest and most reliable part of the week to book. Online delivery helps here too, because a tutor in a different time zone may have an unremarkable afternoon where Dubai has a rush.

What does AED 150 an hour buy for AA SL in the Dubai market?+

At the bottom of the qualified-tutor band, AED 150 buys a planned one-to-one hour with a competent maths graduate, usually online, usually without written marking between sessions. It does not normally buy someone who has taught the current AA guide to a Diploma cohort or marked Paper 1 scripts against a markscheme. That can still be the right purchase for a student whose problem is Year-11-level algebra rather than Diploma technique. Be explicit about which it is, because paying Diploma rates to fix IGCSE algebra is the commonest overspend in this market.

Should we pay for a package of ten AA SL lessons up front?+

Only after a diagnosis, and only if the package says what the hours are aimed at. Dubai providers advertise monthly packages around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour home visits, and a block can genuinely be cheaper per hour. The risk is buying ten hours of general revision when the marks are leaking from two topics. Take a diagnostic hour first, get the written note, and then buy a block against a named component. Ask what happens to unused hours before you transfer anything.

Does the AED rate change if we move from Dubai to Sharjah?+

For online delivery, no: the rate follows the subject, level and specialist rather than the emirate. For in-home arrangements it changes considerably, because the drive changes and so does the local supply of Diploma specialists. The regulator also changes. Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA; in Sharjah the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. The practical consequence of a move is usually the school's internal calendar rather than the tutoring rate, and that calendar is what a revision plan is built around.

How do school fees in Dubai compare with a year of weekly maths support?+

Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 schools in 2024-25, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that fees will not rise for 2026-27 under the emirate's AED 1.5 billion incentives package. Against a fixed annual school fee, a weekly maths hour is a small marginal line. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 for specialist exam-year support. Those brackets are the ones to compare a monthly quote against.

Is a two-student AA SL pair cheaper per child than one-to-one?+

Yes, and it is the one legitimate way to lower the cost per child. Two siblings or two classmates at the same level sharing a slot usually pay more than a single student in total and less each. It works when both are genuinely at the same point in the syllabus and have the same weak topic. It fails when one is rebuilding algebra and the other is polishing exam technique, because half of each hour is then spent waiting. Group sizes above three stop being one-to-one teaching in any useful sense, whatever the rate says.

What is the cheapest honest way to start fixing an AA SL grade?+

Sit one timed Paper 1 at home with no calculator and no notes, keep the script, and read it with the markscheme beside it. That costs nothing and usually identifies whether the problem is pace, algebra or a specific topic. Then use the free trial lesson to have a specialist read the same script. Between those two steps most families learn what they would otherwise have paid several hours to be told, and the first hour they do pay for lands on the right topic rather than on a tour of the syllabus.

Does IB Gram charge for the travel a Dubai in-home tutor would bill?+

No, because there is no travel. Lessons for UAE families run one-to-one over live video, so nothing in the rate covers a drive across the emirate at five in the afternoon. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; that is a service we provide only in India. The market in-home band of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour has the tutor's journey inside it, which is also why in-home tutors are usually drawn from your immediate area rather than from the full pool of AA SL specialists.

Are AA SL rates in Dubai quoted with VAT included?+

Providers differ, and the UAE tax treatment of tuition is not something to take from a tutoring page. Ask the provider directly whether the figure quoted is inclusive, and ask for their tax registration number if they are charging it. We state on any quote we issue whether the AED figure is inclusive. For the market bands published on this page, treat the numbers as advertised headline rates and confirm the tax position before comparing two providers, because an exclusive quote and an inclusive one differ by more than most families expect.

What happens to our fee if a Dubai school moves the mock exams?+

Nothing automatically, but the plan should move. Schools in the emirate set their own mock windows, and a date change of two weeks can turn a planned block of exam-technique hours into a badly timed one. Tell us as soon as the school publishes a new date and we reshape the block rather than running it on the original schedule. Sessions are booked weekly, so a slot can be moved or paused without a penalty. Blocks already agreed are re-sequenced rather than re-sold.

Start with one marked script and one free hour

If you have a recent AA SL paper with marks on it, that is enough to brief a tutor properly. Send the level, the school and the paper that went wrong, and we will propose a specialist and a free trial lesson with no card details taken. After the trial we put the component, the estimated hours and the AED rate in writing, and nothing is charged before that. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, fitted around a Dubai school day. If no specialist is free in the slot you need, we will tell you that instead of filling it with someone who is not one.
