IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What a 0654 tutor costs in Dubai, before anything else

Dubai is the only market in the Gulf where you can get a quote for science tuition ranging from AED 45 to AED 650 an hour for what looks, on the advert, like the same lesson. That spread is not noise. It maps onto four things a parent can check: who is teaching, whether they travel, how long the session runs, and how close you are to the exam series. A Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 home tutor in Dubai sits in the middle of that spread, and the reason is specific to this syllabus rather than to the city.

0654 is a double award. One entry, one set of papers, and a result that carries the weight of two IGCSEs on a university or sixth-form application. Inside it sit biology, chemistry and physics, coordinated so the content links rather than running as three independent courses. A tutor who only teaches physics cannot cover it. A tutor who teaches all three at IGCSE depth is a narrower pool than the Dubai market advertises, and scarcity is the single biggest input into a 0654 quote.

Published UAE rate cards read in October 2026 put budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300, and a tutor who travels to a villa or apartment at AED 180 to 500 once the drive is costed in. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts the in-home band at AED 180 to 350 and the IGCSE and A Level specialist band at AED 200 to 450 and above. Monthly packages advertised in this market cluster around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions where the tutor drives to you. None of those are IB Gram prices; they are what the Dubai market charges, and they are the numbers your quote is being compared against.

The honest position on the phrase in the URL: home visits in Dubai are not a service IB Gram sells, and no tutor will be sent to a UAE address. Our delivery model across the Emirates is one-to-one teaching over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the paper on screen. That is not a hedge dressed as a feature. For a double award in particular it changes who can teach your child: instead of the subset of tutors who happen to cover three sciences and live within a twenty-minute drive of Mirdif or Al Qusais at 5pm, you are choosing from everyone who covers three sciences at all.

What follows is the costing, then the syllabus. If you only read two sections, read the rate table and the component table. Between them they tell you what you are buying, how many hours it realistically takes, and which of the three papers is the cheapest place to find marks before the June series.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0654 sits inside a British-curriculum pathway that most Dubai schools run from Year 7 through to Year 13. Knowing where your child is on that pathway changes what a science tutor should be doing in the session, and how many sessions it takes.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

Three years of integrated science taught as biology, chemistry and physics strands with shared practical skills. Checkpoint tests in science sit in the March, May and October windows Cambridge publishes for Primary and Lower Secondary. Weak Year 9 practical-skills marks are the clearest early signal that Paper 5 or Paper 6 will be a problem two years later.

Dubai schools use Year 9 Checkpoint data to set the Core or Extended tier for Year 10, and that decision is usually made in the spring term. A family that wants Extended science but has a Year 9 report pointing at Core has roughly one term to change the picture, which is why February and March bookings for Year 9 science are heavier here than anywhere else in the calendar.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, including Coordinated Sciences 0654

Two years, typically eight to ten subject entries. 0654 occupies two of them because it is a double award. Candidates sit a multiple-choice paper, a structured theory paper and either a practical test or its written alternative, entered at Core or Extended tier across the whole award rather than paper by paper.

Dubai's British-curriculum schools dominate by enrolment, and 0654 is the pragmatic choice where a timetable cannot fit three separate sciences alongside Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies, which KHDA requires in every Dubai private school regardless of the licensed curriculum. That timetable pressure is why double-award science is more common in this city than the Cambridge global average would suggest.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

Three or four subjects over two years. Science A Levels assume an Extended-tier IGCSE foundation: the quantitative chemistry, mole calculations and electricity content in the first term of AS is pitched at students who met it at Extended, not Core. A double award covers the ground but at less depth than a separate-science entry.

Dubai sixth forms running Cambridge A Level science will usually ask for a grade 6 or above in 0654 before admitting a student to AS Chemistry or Physics, and some ask for separate sciences outright. If A Level science is the plan, that entry requirement is worth reading in Year 10, not Year 11, because the tier decision is harder to reverse later.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects plus the core. International Baccalaureate accounts for 7% of Dubai private-school pupils, so a sizeable minority of 0654 candidates move into DP rather than A Level. DP Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Standard Level are reachable from a double award; Higher Level assumes more quantitative fluency than Core-tier 0654 builds.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. For a Year 11 student on 0654 that widens the post-16 options locally, and it makes the SL-versus-HL science decision a live one in the same term as the IGCSE exams.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A 0654 tutor is covering three mark schemes at once. These are the content blocks the award is built from, plus the neighbouring Cambridge codes families most often confuse it with when they read the statement of entry.

Biology content within 0654

Core and Extended

Characteristics of living organisms, cells, enzymes, nutrition, transport in humans and plants, respiration, coordination, reproduction, inheritance and organisms in their environment. Marks go missing on enzyme graph interpretation and on genetics crosses where the student knows the biology but writes the ratio without the gametes.

Chemistry content within 0654

Core and Extended

Particles, atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, electrochemistry, energetics, rates, acids and bases, the periodic table, metals, chemistry of the environment and organic chemistry. The mole is the single heaviest loss point, and it is an Extended-tier problem far more than a Core one.

Physics content within 0654

Core and Extended

Motion, forces, energy, work and power, thermal physics, waves, light, sound, magnetism, electricity, electromagnetism and radioactivity. Electricity circuits cost more marks than any other physics block in a double award, usually because series and parallel reasoning was never practised on a drawn circuit.

Practical skills across all three sciences

Paper 5 or Paper 6

Measuring, recording, plotting, drawing conclusions and evaluating a method. This is assessed either as a timed practical test or as a written alternative, and it is the component where a tutor can move marks fastest because the skills are generic and examinable in a predictable format.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Single award, Core and Extended

The single-award sibling of 0654. Same three sciences, less content, one IGCSE grade rather than two. Dubai schools sometimes move a student from 0654 to 0653 in Year 11 if the workload is unmanageable, and the switch changes which papers are entered.

Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652

Single award, Core and Extended

Chemistry and physics only, no biology. Chosen where a student wants the two quantitative sciences without the biology load. The chemistry and physics content overlaps heavily with 0654, so a tutor who teaches one usually teaches the other.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

The separate-science biology entry. Deeper than the biology inside a double award, with its own practical paper. Students who want Biology at A Level or DP Higher Level are usually better served here, and some Dubai sixth forms say so in their entry requirements.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Separate-science chemistry, with substantially more organic chemistry and more quantitative work than the 0654 chemistry strand. The commonest reason a Dubai family adds tutoring in Year 11 is a plan to sit 0620 alongside or instead of the double award.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Separate-science physics. More mechanics, more electricity, and a practical paper that rewards graph-drawing precision. A 0654 student considering Physics A Level should look at the 0625 content list to see what the double award leaves out.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The quiet dependency. Rearranging formulae, standard form, ratio and gradient work all show up in 0654 chemistry and physics answers. A student losing marks on calculation questions in science frequently has a maths problem wearing a science costume.

Pearson Edexcel Science Double Award 4SD0

Single tier

The Edexcel equivalent of a double award, used by some Dubai schools instead of Cambridge. Untiered, with a different paper structure. Worth naming because parents searching for 0654 help sometimes find their child is actually entered for 4SD0.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

KHDA mandatory subjects

Required in all Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and language-of-instruction rules set by KHDA. These sit on the same timetable as 0654 and are part of why double-award science exists in Dubai at all.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy 0654 support, with honest notes on where each one is a waste of money. All of them run as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one across all three sciences

A single 60 or 90-minute session each week, rotating through biology, chemistry and physics according to what the school is teaching. This is the format that fits the coordinated structure of 0654, because the tutor can follow the school's sequence rather than imposing a separate one. Most Year 10 families start here.

  • 60 minutes suits Year 10; 90 minutes suits Year 11 past-paper work
  • Tutor follows your school's scheme of work, not a generic plan
  • Marked written work returned between sessions
  • One subject strand per session beats trying to cover all three

Practical-skills block for Paper 5 or Paper 6

A short run of four to six sessions aimed only at the practical component. Measuring and recording, tables, graph plotting, anomalous results, conclusions and method evaluation. Because the skills are generic across the three sciences and the question formats repeat, this is usually the highest-yield block a 0654 student can buy.

  • Which paper your school entered decides the whole approach
  • Graph work practised on paper, scanned and marked
  • Method evaluation taught as a template, not a guess
  • Four to six sessions is normally enough

Pre-series intensive before the June or November papers

Two or three sessions a week in the final six to eight weeks, built entirely around timed questions from past series and the mark schemes that go with them. Useful if the content is broadly there and the problem is exam technique or timing. Expensive and largely wasted if the content is not there, which is why the first session is diagnostic.

  • Timed questions marked against the published mark scheme
  • Rates rise across this market close to a series; book early
  • Sessions can move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan
  • Not the right format if whole topics are missing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a Coordinated Sciences 0654 home tutor costs in Dubai

A 0654 tutor in Dubai costs between AED 150 and AED 400 an hour at the qualified-subject-specialist end of the market, and between AED 45 and AED 150 an hour where the tutor is a university student working online. Those are market figures taken from published UAE rate cards and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026. They are not IB Gram prices, and any provider quoting you a single number without asking which tier your child sits and which practical paper the school entered is quoting blind.

The table below is organised by provider model rather than by brand, because the model is what actually determines the rate. A tutor who drives to Mirdif at 5pm is pricing a 90-minute round trip into a 60-minute lesson. A tuition centre is pricing a lease in Al Quoz. A marketplace is pricing in a platform margin and often in a currency that is not dirhams. Reading the band next to the model tells you what proportion of your money is buying teaching.

Two Dubai-specific details change the arithmetic. First, double award means the tutor must hold biology, chemistry and physics to IGCSE depth; the pool of people who do is smaller than the pool advertising science tuition, and that scarcity sits at the top of the band rather than the bottom. Second, rates in this market move with the exam calendar. A tutor with open slots in September is a different commercial proposition from the same tutor in March, six weeks before the June series. Families who book the practical-skills block in the autumn consistently pay less for it than families who book in April.

What IB Gram does rather than publishing a price list: a trial lesson at no charge, one per student and with no card details taken, then a quote that depends on tier, session length and how many weeks are left. If a figure matters to you before you commit time to a consultation, say so in the first message and ask for the band in writing.

The six things that move your quote in this emirate

  • Travel: the single largest input into any in-home rate in this city
  • Coverage: three sciences in one tutor narrows the pool and raises the band
  • Session length: 90 minutes usually has a lower effective hourly rate
  • Timing: autumn bookings cost less than April bookings in this market
  • Siblings: priced per student, not per session, across most providers
  • Tier: Extended-tier preparation takes more hours than Core

Parents often assume the variable is tutor quality. In Dubai it is more often logistics. Six inputs explain most of the spread between an AED 150 quote and an AED 450 one, and four of them are things you can change before you ask for a price.

Travel is the biggest. A tutor driving from Deira to Dubai Sports City at 5.30pm is committing two hours to deliver one, and no sustainable rate hides that. The second is coverage: a double-award tutor is being asked to hold three syllabuses, and generalists who teach one science will either decline or quietly cover only the part they know. The third is session length, where a 90-minute slot almost always has a lower effective hourly rate than a 60-minute one because the setup cost is amortised. The fourth is timing in the exam cycle. The fifth is whether siblings share the slot, which this market prices at a discount per student rather than per session. The sixth is tier, because Extended-tier preparation involves quantitative chemistry and electromagnetism work that takes longer to teach than the Core equivalents.

The permit position is worth knowing because it sits behind some of the cheapest quotes you will see. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so nobody should be quoting you an amount. Ask any tutor you are considering whether they hold the permit; it costs them nothing to obtain, which makes not having one a choice rather than a hardship.

A separate rule applies in Abu Dhabi and is worth knowing if you move emirates: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. It is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document here, so verify it against the current ADEK text before relying on it, but the principle behind it — your child's own class teacher should not be their paid tutor — is sound practice in Dubai too.

03

Coordinated Sciences 0654 is one grade covering three sciences

0654 is Cambridge's double-award coordinated science. A candidate sits one set of papers and the result is reported as a double award, which is why it occupies two slots on a results sheet. The content is coordinated rather than combined: the biology, chemistry and physics strands are sequenced so that ideas like energy transfer or particle behaviour are met in a consistent form across all three, instead of three departments teaching the same idea three different ways.

The assessment has three components. A multiple-choice paper, a structured theory paper, and a practical component that is either a timed practical test or a written alternative to it. The tier your school enters decides which versions of the first two your child sits: Core candidates take the Core multiple-choice and Core theory papers, Extended candidates take the Extended versions. The practical component does not change with tier, which is one reason it is the fairest place to chase marks. Component weightings and durations are printed in the Cambridge syllabus document for 0654; the version that matters is the one for your child's exam series, and it is worth downloading from cambridgeinternational.org rather than trusting a summary, including this one.

The practical choice is made by the school, not the family. Paper 5 is a hands-on test sat in a laboratory with a supervisor; Paper 6 is a written alternative that asks the same skills in the abstract, with described apparatus and supplied readings. Schools without the laboratory capacity to run a timed practical for a large cohort choose Paper 6. Some Dubai schools with strong facilities still choose Paper 6 because it is easier to invigilate across multiple sessions. Ask which one is entered before paying for any practical preparation, because preparing for the wrong one is the most common way families waste money on this syllabus.

One more structural point that catches parents: entry is at the award level, not the paper level. You do not sit Extended chemistry and Core biology. The tier applies to the whole double award, so a student strong in biology and weak in quantitative chemistry has a genuine decision to make, and it is a decision about where the grade ceiling sits rather than about effort.

A tutor in the room versus a tutor on screen, costed for a Dubai school run

This is the comparison the search term implies, so here it is without the sales gloss. A tutor who travels to you is buying back a logistical problem: nobody drives to a centre, the student is in a familiar room, and younger children settle faster. Those are real advantages and parents who want them are not wrong. What they cost, in this city, is a rate at the upper end of the AED 180 to 500 band, a tutor chosen from whoever is within reasonable driving distance of your community, and a session time dictated by traffic rather than by when your child concentrates best.

Home visits in Dubai are not something IB Gram sells, so this page cannot pretend to be neutral. What it can do is show the trade honestly. The case for live video on this particular syllabus is unusually strong, and it is about supply rather than technology. Double-award science needs a tutor who holds biology, chemistry and physics at IGCSE depth. In a drive-time radius around Al Furjan or Dubai Silicon Oasis on a weekday evening, that is a handful of people. Without the radius, it is everyone who teaches the syllabus. The practical component makes the same point from the other direction: Paper 6 is a written paper about described apparatus, and teaching it on a shared screen with the diagram annotated live is at least as effective as teaching it across a dining table.

The honest limitation is Paper 5. If your child's school entered the hands-on practical test, some of that preparation genuinely belongs in a laboratory, and the right answer is to use the school's practical sessions properly rather than to buy a tutor who claims to replace them. What a tutor can do for Paper 5 is everything around the apparatus: planning the table before the readings start, choosing scales, spotting anomalous results, and writing the conclusion and evaluation that carry the marks. That part transfers to a screen without loss.

The third option families consider is a tuition centre group class, usually sold as a monthly package. It is the cheapest per hour and the weakest fit for 0654, because a group moving at one pace cannot serve a student whose biology is fine and whose chemistry is not. For a double award specifically, the whole point of one-to-one is that the three strands are almost never equally weak.

Core or Extended: the decision that changes how many hours you buy

  • Tier applies to the whole double award, not paper by paper
  • Core caps the achievable grade; Extended opens the top band
  • Core tutoring is about completeness and command terms
  • Extended tutoring is about quantitative chemistry and circuits
  • Evidence for a tier change has to exist before the entry deadline

Tiering is where 0654 differs most sharply from a single-science entry, and where a tutoring budget is most often misallocated. The tier is set by the school, usually on the strength of Year 9 data and early Year 10 assessments, and it applies to the entire double award. A Core entry caps the grade a candidate can be awarded; an Extended entry opens the top grades but puts harder content and harder papers in front of a student who may not be ready for them.

The practical consequence for a parent buying hours: a Core student and an Extended student need different tutoring. A Core candidate is working on completeness and command-term precision — making sure every question gets a scoring answer rather than a half-answer, and that describe, explain, state and suggest are each answered in their own register. An Extended candidate is working on the quantitative spine: moles, concentrations, rearranged equations, circuit reasoning and multi-step calculations where the marks sit in the working rather than the answer.

If your child is borderline, the most useful thing a tutor can do in the first month is diagnose which content, specifically, is keeping them in Core. It is almost never all three sciences. In the double-award cohorts we see in Dubai, the blocker is most often quantitative chemistry, followed by electricity in physics. Both are teachable in a defined number of weeks, and both show up as a visible change in school assessment marks, which is the evidence a school needs before it moves a student up a tier. That conversation has a deadline: once the entry is submitted it is a school administrative matter to change it, not a teaching one.

One caution. A tier change is a school decision made on school evidence, and no tutor can promise one. What a tutor can do is make the evidence exist by a particular date. If a provider tells you they can get your child moved to Extended, ask them what they are actually proposing to do, and treat the promise itself as a warning sign.

06

Paper 5 or Paper 6: the cheapest marks on this syllabus

The practical component carries roughly a fifth of the double award and is the only part that does not change with tier. It is also the part most families ignore until the mock results come back, which is why it is the best value block of tutoring available on 0654. The skills involved are generic, the question formats repeat across series, and almost all of the marks are awarded for things that can be taught rather than things that have to be remembered.

Start by finding out which paper the school entered. Paper 5 is a timed practical test under supervision; Paper 6 is a written alternative that assesses the same skills from described apparatus and supplied readings. The two demand different preparation. A student entered for Paper 6 does not need laboratory time; they need practice reading a described method, spotting the controlled variable, and writing an evaluation that identifies a weakness in the procedure rather than in their own performance. A student entered for Paper 5 needs both the bench skills and the paperwork around them.

What repeatedly costs marks in both versions: tables drawn after the readings are taken rather than before, so columns are missing headings or units; graph axes chosen so the points occupy a third of the grid; best-fit lines drawn through the first and last point instead of through the trend; conclusions that restate the readings instead of answering the question asked; and evaluations that say the student should have been more careful. Each of those is a rule a tutor can teach in one session and a student can practise in ten minutes a week.

A reasonable plan for a Year 11 student in Dubai is four to six focused sessions on the practical component, taken in the autumn term rather than in the spring. Autumn is when tutors have availability and rates sit lower across this market, and the skills, once learned, keep paying through mocks and into the final series. Do not buy this block without first confirming the paper number on the statement of entry.

07

Where 0654 marks actually go missing, science by science

  • Chemistry: moles, reacting masses, electrode products
  • Physics: series and parallel circuits, moments, radioactive vocabulary
  • Biology: data interpretation and genetics working
  • All three: command terms and unshown calculation steps

Double-award students rarely lose marks evenly. The pattern across Dubai cohorts is consistent enough to plan around, and it matters for budgeting because it tells you which strand to buy hours for rather than paying for a general science tutor to cover everything slowly.

In chemistry, the mole dominates. Moles, concentration, reacting masses and anything requiring a balanced equation to be used rather than merely written. The underlying problem is usually arithmetic fluency rather than chemical understanding: a student who cannot rearrange a formula confidently will not produce a multi-step calculation under time pressure, however well they understand the reaction. The second chemistry loss point is electrochemistry, where products at each electrode are learned as a list instead of a rule and then misapplied.

In physics, electricity is the single biggest loss. Series and parallel reasoning, potential difference across components, and resistance combinations. Students who can recite the equations still lose marks because they do not sketch the circuit before calculating. Second is moments and equilibrium, where the geometry gets dropped. Third is radioactivity, which is normally a vocabulary problem rather than a physics one.

In biology, the content is better retained and the marks go on technique. Graph and data interpretation questions where the answer is in the figures and the student writes from memory instead. Genetics crosses written without the gametes, so the ratio appears with no working to support it. Transport and exchange questions where the answer needs a structure named and a function given, and only one of the two arrives. Across all three sciences, the quiet thief is the command term: describe answered as explain costs marks even when the science is right, and it is the fastest single thing to fix in a first month of tutoring.

08

Budgeting two years of 0654 support in a Dubai context

Tutoring is bought alongside school fees, and in Dubai that context has changed. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family planning two years of IGCSE support, a flat fee year is the first piece of good news in a while, and it makes a weekly tutoring line easier to commit to.

The scale of the market explains why the rate spread is so wide. Dubai had 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula, with UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and International Baccalaureate at 7%. A UK-curriculum share that size means tens of thousands of IGCSE candidates in any given series, and a tutoring market deep enough to contain both a AED 45 university student and a AED 650 specialist. The 2026-27 intake adds seven more private schools and 16,846 places, so demand for Year 10 and 11 support is not about to soften.

A realistic two-year plan, costed at market rates rather than ours: a weekly 60-minute session through Year 10 at the qualified-tutor band, stepping up to 90 minutes in Year 11, with a four-to-six-session practical block in the autumn of Year 11 and a short intensive before the series. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those are the brackets to plan against.

Where families overspend: buying three sciences' worth of tutoring when one strand is the problem, booking the practical block in April instead of October, paying for a tutor who travels when the same money buys a better-matched tutor on screen, and continuing a weekly session through a term where the student needed marked written work instead. Where families underspend: skipping the practical component entirely, and leaving the tier conversation until the entry is already in.

What a 0654 tutor may and may not do, and how to verify one

There is a line in this market that matters more in science than parents expect, because 0654 has no coursework. There is no internal assessment to mishandle, which removes the worst temptation. What remains is more mundane and still worth stating: a tutor teaches, explains, sets practice and marks it. A tutor does not sit a paper, does not supply the school's internal assessment answers, and does not distribute copyrighted Cambridge material. Past papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge; the right thing for a tutor to do is point you at cambridgeinternational.org and at your school, not host a download library.

On verification, three checks cover most of the risk. Ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system; MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Ask which syllabus code and which practical paper they have taught most recently, and listen for whether they ask you the same question back. Ask for a marked piece of work from the first session, because a tutor who marks to the published mark scheme will show you where the marks were and were not awarded.

What nobody in this market should be telling you: that they hold KHDA approval, ADEK approval or Cambridge accreditation as a tutoring provider. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, with initial approval, a maximum six-month window to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold one and does not operate premises in the UAE, which is why this page describes an online service and not a centre. Any provider implying board accreditation for private tutoring is describing something that does not exist in that form.

Finally, grades. No tutor can promise a grade on 0654 or anything else, and a provider that offers one is either misunderstanding the assessment or hoping you will not notice. What can be promised is specific and checkable: that the right papers are being prepared for, that written work comes back marked, and that you will be told plainly when a plan is not working.

Areas we cover across Dubai

Double-award science is not evenly spread across Dubai. It concentrates in the school clusters where timetables are tight and cohorts are large, and the practical effect for a parent is how late a weekday session can realistically start.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

One of the densest British-stream school clusters in the city, with large Year 10 and 11 cohorts and timetables that routinely run double-award science rather than three separate entries. Sessions here work best from 5.30pm once buses have cleared Damascus Street.

Mirdif

Villa communities feeding several mid-fee British-curriculum schools. Families often need two siblings taught the same evening, which is straightforward online and expensive when a tutor is driving in from Deira or Sharjah.

Al Barsha and Tecom

A mixed cluster of large British and IB schools. Students here are more likely to be weighing separate sciences against the double award, because the schools offer both and the choice is made in Year 9.

International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Long school runs and apartment living. The commute cost that pushes an in-home quote towards the top of the AED 180-500 band is at its worst here, which is why online sessions dominate in these communities.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Al Furjan

Fast-growing family areas with newer schools and smaller science departments. Practical provision varies, so the Paper 5 versus Paper 6 question matters more here than in older, larger schools.

Dubai Sports City and Motor City

Self-contained communities where an evening tutor visit means a drive out and back along Hessa Street. Online sessions avoid the 45-minute round trip that a 60-minute lesson otherwise carries.

Deira and Al Garhoud

Older, larger schools with established science departments and some of the biggest double-award cohorts in Dubai. Sessions commonly sit at 6pm or later because after-school activities run until 5.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Khail

Newer premium schools, more likely to enter separate sciences. The 0654 enquiries here are usually from students who moved mid-year from a school that entered the double award and now need the gap mapped.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Deira

Large British-curriculum schools with multi-form Year 10 and 11 entries. Double-award science is common in this cluster because the KHDA mandatory subjects plus a full option block leave little timetable room for three separate sciences. Confirm the entry code on your child's statement of entry rather than assuming.

  • Our Own English High School
  • The Westminster School Dubai
  • Cambridge International School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Garhoud

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej

Mid-fee British-curriculum schools serving villa communities, with science departments that often run both the double award and separate sciences in parallel sets. Students we support in this cluster are usually in the set that will sit the Extended tier but started the year in Core.

  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School
  • Credence High School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Al Barsha, Tecom and Dubai Hills

A cluster where separate sciences are more common, so 0654 enquiries here often follow a mid-year transfer. The useful first session is a content audit: what the previous school had covered, and what the new paper structure now requires.

  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Hartland International School

Named schools are listed as local context only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school, group or regulator mentioned on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the statement of entry

The single most useful thing you can share first. It shows the syllabus code, the tier and the practical paper number. Those three facts decide what the first session covers and stop a tutor preparing for the wrong component, which is the commonest avoidable waste on this syllabus.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic trial lesson

One lesson at no charge, one per student, with no card details taken. The tutor works through questions from each of the three strands to find out where marks are actually going, then tells you which strand to buy hours for. If the answer is that school support is enough for now, you will be told that.

  3. 03

Agree the plan and the evidence

Session length, weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, which strand leads, and what marked work comes back between sessions. Rates are quoted against tier and weeks remaining, not pulled from a list, and you get the figure in writing before the first paid lesson.

  4. 04

    Weekly teaching with marked work

One-to-one over live video with a shared whiteboard and the paper on screen. Written work is set, marked against the published mark scheme, and returned with the marks attributed to specific criteria so you can see what moved and what did not.

  5. 05

    Review before the series

A checkpoint six to eight weeks out: what the mocks showed, whether the practical block has been done, whether the tier is still right, and whether the final weeks should be timed papers or content. This is also the point to decide whether to stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate conversation happens first

You get the market bands with their sources before you get a sales pitch, and the quote depends on tier, session length and weeks remaining. No single headline number, because a single number for a double award would be guesswork.

Three sciences, one tutor

0654 is coordinated, so the person teaching it holds biology, chemistry and physics at IGCSE depth rather than one of the three. Online delivery is what makes that pool large enough to match properly instead of settling for whoever is nearby.

The practical component is treated as a subject

Paper 5 and Paper 6 need different preparation, and the paper number comes from your statement of entry rather than an assumption. The skills block is deliberately short because the marks available are predictable.

Marked work, not reported progress

Written answers come back marked against the published mark scheme, with the marks attributed. That is the evidence a school needs for a tier conversation, and it is the only honest way to show a parent whether anything is changing.

Scheduling built for Dubai

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time, after school runs and activities, and they move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. No travel time on either side, so a 90-minute lesson costs 90 minutes.

What we will not claim

No regulator approval, no board accreditation, no grade promises, no statistics without their source. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and operates no premises in the UAE, and the page says so rather than leaving you to find out.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 tutor cost in Dubai?+

Market rates in Dubai for a qualified science tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and AED 200 to 450 and above where the tutor is an IGCSE and A Level specialist. A tutor who travels to your community sits in the AED 180 to 500 band once the drive is priced in. Those figures come from published UAE rate cards and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026, and they are market rates rather than IB Gram prices. Double award pushes a quote upward because the tutor must cover biology, chemistry and physics.

Why does a 0654 home tutor in Dubai quote more than an online one?+

Because you are paying for the drive. A tutor travelling to Mirdif or Dubai Sports City for a 5.30pm session commits around two hours to deliver one, and that shows up in the rate rather than disappearing. The published in-home band of AED 180 to 500 an hour reflects it. The second cost is invisible: you choose from tutors within driving distance of your community rather than from everyone who teaches the syllabus, which on a three-science award is a much smaller group. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; lessons run one-to-one over live video.

Is Coordinated Sciences 0654 worth two IGCSEs on a Dubai school report?+

Yes. 0654 is a double award, so one entry and one set of papers produce a result reported as two IGCSE grades. That is why it appears twice on a results sheet and why it counts twice towards a sixth-form entry requirement expressed as a number of subjects. It is not the same as sitting Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 separately: three separate entries give three grades and cover more content per science. Which route suits your child depends on what they want to study after 16, and Dubai sixth forms differ in what they ask for.

Which practical paper will my child sit for 0654, Paper 5 or Paper 6?+

That is the school's choice, not yours, and it is printed on the statement of entry. Paper 5 is a timed practical test in a laboratory with a supervisor. Paper 6 is a written alternative assessing the same skills from described apparatus and supplied readings. Schools with limited laboratory capacity for a large cohort usually enter Paper 6. Find the paper number before paying for any practical preparation, because the two require genuinely different work and preparing for the wrong one is the most common way money gets wasted on this syllabus.

Can my child be entered for Extended in chemistry and Core in biology?+

No. On 0654 the tier applies to the whole double award, so a candidate is either a Core candidate or an Extended candidate across all three sciences. That is why a student who is strong in biology and weak in quantitative chemistry faces a real decision rather than a subject-by-subject one. Core caps the grade that can be awarded; Extended opens the top grades but puts harder papers in front of the student. The school sets the tier from its own assessment data, and changing it after entry is an administrative process with its own deadline.

My child is in Core and we want Extended. Can a tutor move them up?+

A tutor cannot move a tier; a school does, on its own evidence. What a tutor can do is make that evidence exist before the entry deadline. In Dubai double-award cohorts the blocker is usually one thing rather than three: most often quantitative chemistry, sometimes electricity in physics. Both are teachable in a defined number of weeks, and improvement shows up in school assessments, which is what a head of science will look at. Any provider who promises a tier change rather than describing the work should be treated with real scepticism.

How many sessions does a Year 11 student on 0654 usually need?+

A common pattern in Dubai is one 90-minute session a week through Year 11, plus a block of four to six sessions aimed only at the practical component, taken in the autumn term rather than the spring. If the content is broadly secure and the problem is timing or technique, two or three sessions a week in the last six to eight weeks works. If whole topics are missing, an intensive is the wrong purchase and a longer weekly plan is cheaper overall. The diagnostic session exists to tell you which situation you are in.

Do Dubai tutoring rates really rise closer to the exam series?+

Yes, and the effect is noticeable. A tutor with open slots in September is in a different commercial position from the same tutor in March, six weeks before the June series, when every Year 11 family in the emirate is looking for the same hours. The practical skills block is the clearest example: the content does not change between October and April, but availability and price do. Families who plan the practical component into the autumn term consistently pay less for it and get more use out of it, because the skills carry through the mocks as well.

Does a 0654 tutor need a permit to teach privately in Dubai?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so nobody should quote you an amount. The permit costs nothing to obtain, which makes it a fair question to ask any tutor.

Can online lessons really prepare a student for a laboratory practical test?+

Partly, and the honest split matters. If the school entered Paper 6, the written alternative, there is no laboratory requirement at all and a shared screen with an annotated diagram works well. If the school entered Paper 5, the bench skills belong in the school laboratory and the right move is to use those sessions properly. What transfers fully to video is everything around the apparatus: designing the results table before taking readings, choosing graph scales, drawing a best-fit line through a trend, identifying anomalies, and writing conclusions and method evaluations that actually score.

Which 0654 topics cost Dubai students the most marks?+

Three stand out. In chemistry it is the mole: reacting masses, concentrations and anything that needs a balanced equation used rather than written, usually because formula rearrangement is shaky rather than the chemistry. In physics it is electricity, particularly series and parallel reasoning where students calculate without sketching the circuit. In biology the content is better retained and marks go on technique: data questions answered from memory, and genetics crosses written without the gametes. Across all three, command terms quietly cost marks when describe is answered as explain.

Should we switch from 0654 to Combined Science 0653 if Year 11 is too heavy?+

It is a real option and schools in Dubai do it, usually at the start of Year 11. 0653 is the single-award version: same three sciences, less content, one IGCSE grade instead of two. The gain is workload; the cost is a slot on the results sheet and, potentially, a sixth-form entry requirement expressed in subject counts. It also changes which papers are entered, so any tutoring plan has to be rebuilt around the new structure. Discuss it with the head of science before paying for more hours on the double award.

Does my child still need Arabic and Islamic Education alongside 0654?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students with specified languages of instruction. Those subjects sit on the same timetable as science, which is part of why double-award science is more common in Dubai than a separate-science entry: the timetable has to fit them. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met.

What should I ask a 0654 tutor before paying for the first month?+

Four questions. Which practical paper has my child been entered for, and how does that change your plan? Which tier are we working towards, and what evidence would a school need to change it? What written work will come back marked, and against which mark scheme? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? A tutor who asks for the statement of entry before quoting is telling you something useful. So is one who quotes a single hourly figure without asking anything at all.

Are IGCSE science grades enough for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

For the British track, the Ministry requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at E or above or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Because 0654 is a double award it contributes two of the five. Equivalency is handled by the Ministry, not by any tutoring provider, and the requirements should be verified on moe.gov.ae before you rely on them.

Start with the statement of entry, not the price list

If you take one thing from this page, make it this: find the tier and the practical paper number before you buy any hours for Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654. Those two facts decide what good tutoring looks like for your child, and they are the difference between four well-aimed sessions and twenty vague ones. Send them over with a note on which of the three sciences is the problem, and the trial lesson will tell you whether tutoring is the right purchase at all. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, around Dubai school hours.
