Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 Tutor in Dubai

Most pages selling a Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 tutor in Dubai will not tell you what it costs. Three of the six competitor pages we examined for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. This page starts with the dirham figures instead: the published market bands for Dubai, what actually moves the number, how 0653 compares with the double award and with three separate sciences on both cost and certificate, and how many hours a Year 11 candidate realistically needs.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Starting with the number, because nobody else will

A parent in Dubai pricing science tutoring is working almost blind. Of the competitor pages examined for this market in October 2026, three publish no hourly figure anywhere on the page, one publishes a figure that contradicts its own structured data, and two quote in US dollars to families who pay for everything else in dirhams. One of them has a frequently asked question that asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. The effect is that the first quote a family receives becomes their only reference point, whether it is AED 120 or AED 500.

So this page leads with rates, with each figure attributed to the source that published it. The headline bands for Dubai as of October 2026 are these. Budget online tutoring, usually a university student, runs from around AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online sits between AED 150 and AED 300, with Unitors advertising IGCSE support from AED 150. An in-home one-to-one visit including travel runs AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors quoting 200 to 500. Exam specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting around AED 270. Premium named or examiner-level tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED at AED 650.

None of those are IB Gram's prices and none of them are quoted here as ours. They are the market, published so you can judge whether a quote you have received is ordinary or unusual. IB Gram is an independent matching platform that delivers tutoring for UAE families one-to-one over live video; we do not make home visits in Dubai, as that is a service we run only in India. For our own arrangement the honest route is the free trial lesson and the conversation that follows it, because the sensible number depends on the tier, the number of sessions and how close the exam is.

The second half of the pricing question is the one families ask less often and regret more: what are you buying per hour. Combined Science 0653 awards a single grade covering biology, chemistry and physics, which means one tutor can cover the whole subject if they are genuinely comfortable across all three strands. A family paying three separate specialists for a single-award course is usually paying for coordination they do not need. Equally, a tutor who is a biologist pretending to be comfortable with moles and with circuit calculations will cost you more in a wasted term than the hourly difference ever saves.

There is a useful piece of context for budgeting. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are the fixed part of an education budget; tutoring is the part that moves. A family that plans a year of weekly support deliberately in September spends less than one that buys an intensive block in panic in April, and the earlier version works better.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The science route a Dubai school puts a student on decides both the tutoring bill and the post-16 options, and the decision is usually made on a Year 9 options form. These are the four routes, framed by what each costs to support and what each leaves open.

0653Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science, single award

One qualification and one grade covering biology, chemistry and physics. Fewer guided learning hours than the double award or separate sciences, with a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and a practical component, tiered Core and Extended. The cheapest route to support because one competent tutor can hold the whole syllabus.

In Dubai this is often the route a school recommends for a student carrying a heavy subject load or finding three separate sciences unmanageable. Ask what it does to the sixth-form options at your own school before agreeing, because the answer varies between Dubai schools rather than following a national rule.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences, double award

Two grades from one course, with more content than 0653 across the same three sciences. Costs more to support than the single award because there is more syllabus to cover, and less than separate sciences because the papers are shared rather than tripled.

The most common compromise route in Dubai British-curriculum schools. Two science grades on the certificate also help with the Ministry of Education equivalency count, where five accredited subjects at grade E or 3 or better are required on the British track.

SEPAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Three separate sciences

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 taken as three qualifications with three grades. The most content, the most papers and the most expensive to support, because a student needing help in two of the three realistically needs two specialists rather than one generalist.

The standard route in Dubai's selective British-curriculum schools and the expected preparation for A Level sciences. A family supporting two of the three subjects weekly is looking at roughly double the tutoring budget of a 0653 family at the same hourly rate.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Post-16 science progression

A Level sciences or IB Diploma sciences. Entry conditions are set by the individual school, and some Dubai sixth forms specify a grade in a separate science rather than accepting a combined award for a given A Level. This is the real cost of the 0653 decision, and it is not an hourly one.

Check the published sixth-form entry criteria at your own Dubai school, in writing, before the Year 9 options form is signed. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools creating 16,846 places, so provision is changing and last year's criteria are not a safe guide.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What a tutor charges depends partly on how specialised the subject is. These are the science and supporting codes we are asked about across Dubai, with a note on where each sits in the market's pricing.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science (0653)

Core and Extended, single award

One grade across three sciences. Sits in the general-science band of the market rather than the specialist band, which is why rates for 0653 support tend to come in below separate-subject physics or chemistry. One tutor covering all three strands is the normal and sensible arrangement.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Core and Extended, double award

More content than 0653 for two grades rather than one. Support costs more in hours rather than in hourly rate, because the syllabus is wider and the practical component carries the same weight across a larger body of material.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

The separate-science biology route. Priced in the market much like 0653 because content recall dominates, though Extended-tier specialists who have marked a full series charge toward the upper band.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

Consistently the most expensive of the three separate sciences to support in Dubai, because moles, stoichiometry and electrolysis need a tutor comfortable with the arithmetic as well as the chemistry. This is the strand inside 0653 that most often forces a family to pay for a second tutor.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Priced similarly to chemistry and for the same reason. Formula rearrangement, unit handling and graph interpretation are mathematical skills, and a biologist teaching physics inside a combined course tends to run out of depth at exactly the questions carrying the marks.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science (Double Award, 4SD0)

Single tier

The Pearson counterpart used by some Dubai centres. Different paper structure and a different series calendar, so Cambridge past papers are not interchangeable. Check the board on the statement of entry before paying for any preparation material.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science (Single Award)

Single tier

The Pearson single-award route, broadly equivalent in scope to 0653. The practical arrangements and the paper layout differ enough that a tutor needs to confirm the board rather than assume Cambridge.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The hidden cost inside a combined-science bill. A student losing 0653 marks on rearranging equations, unit conversion or reading a graph has a maths problem appearing in a science exam, and fixing it there is cheaper than fixing it twice.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (0510)

Core and Extended

Relevant because long-answer science marks are awarded for precise wording. Students writing in a second language lose marks to vocabulary rather than to science, which is diagnosable from a marked script and cheaper to address than more content teaching.

A Level and IB Diploma sciences

AS, A2, HL and SL

Where the 0653 decision shows its real price. Post-16 science entry conditions are set school by school in Dubai, and a single combined award sometimes does not satisfy them for a given subject. Worth confirming in writing while the Year 9 options form is still open.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying 0653 support, with the budget consequence of each stated plainly. All of them run as one-to-one live video lessons on Dubai timings.

One tutor across all three strands

The arrangement that makes 0653 cheaper to support than separate sciences. A single tutor holds the whole syllabus, moves between the biology, chemistry and physics content as the diagnostic requires, and carries one picture of where the marks are being lost. No handover, no duplicated diagnostics, one invoice.

  • One weekly session rather than two or three
  • Topic priority set across all three sciences together
  • No time lost to repeated baseline testing

Main tutor plus a short specialist block

For the common case where one strand is dramatically weaker than the others, usually the chemistry calculations or the physics formula work. The main tutor keeps the overall plan and a specialist takes four to six sessions on the single weak strand, then hands back. Costs more for a defined period rather than permanently.

  • Specialist block scoped to a fixed number of sessions
  • Handover note so the main tutor keeps the plan
  • Reverts to the cheaper single-tutor arrangement afterwards

Pre-series intensive, costed up front

Six to eight weeks of two or three sessions a week before a June or November series. The most expensive way to buy support per month and sometimes the right one, particularly after poor mocks. Scoped from a marked baseline paper so the hours go to measured weakness rather than to a full syllabus sweep.

  • Total session count agreed before the block starts
  • Practical component timetabled as its own strand
  • A second comparable paper at the end to show movement

01

What a 0653 tutor costs in Dubai, in dirhams

The table below is the thing this market does not publish. Every figure is attributed to the provider or rate survey that published it, and all of it was read in October 2026. It describes the market rather than IB Gram, and it is here so a parent can tell an ordinary quote from an unusual one. If a tutor quotes you AED 650 an hour, that is a real band in this city, but you should know you are at the top of it and ask what you are getting for the position.

The shape of the market is worth reading before the numbers. The budget tier is mostly university students teaching online, and for a Year 10 student needing content coverage it can be perfectly adequate. The qualified-tutor tier is where most Year 11 work sits. The specialist tier buys someone who has marked a syllabus to the published points through a full series, which matters most in the eight weeks before a paper and matters least in October of Year 10. The premium tier is where examiner claims appear, and that is where scepticism is most warranted, because current examiner status is rarely evidenced and never confers access to marking or boundaries.

The in-home band sits higher than the online band at every tier for one reason, which is travel. Somebody pays for the drive, either inside the hourly rate or as a minimum booking length. In a city where a cross-town evening run takes forty minutes each way, a nominally cheaper in-home rate can work out dearer per hour of actual teaching, and the pool of tutors willing to make the drive at five in the afternoon is small.

Monthly packages are where comparison gets hard, and that is sometimes deliberate. The figures seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Divide before you compare: the first works out near AED 100 a session and the second near AED 200 an hour. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

What actually moves the number in Dubai

  • Format and travel: the single largest cost difference in Dubai
  • Proximity to the exam series: March costs more than September
  • Block bookings and longer sessions usually reduce the effective hourly rate
  • Extended-tier preparation is a wider body of material than Core
  • The MoHRE permit is free, so it cannot justify a premium

Five things change a 0653 quote in this city, and only one of them is the tutor's qualifications. The first is format, which is really travel, and it is the largest single factor. The second is how close the exam is: demand for science tutoring in Dubai concentrates between the January mock results and the June series, and a tutor with a full diary in March has no reason to discount. Booking the same tutor in September usually costs less per hour for the same person.

The third is session length and commitment. Hourly rates quoted for a single session are routinely higher than the same tutor's rate inside a ten-session block, and ninety-minute sessions often price below two separate hours. The fourth is how many strands you need covered. A family needing only the chemistry inside 0653 is buying a narrower service than one needing all three, and a tutor who has to prepare across the full syllabus every week will price for that preparation whether or not they say so.

The fifth is tier, and it is the one parents never ask about. Extended-tier preparation requires the tutor to be fluent in supplement content as well as core, which is a genuinely larger body of material. A quote given before anyone has established whether your child is a Core or Extended candidate is a guess. Establish the tier from the statement of entry and then ask for a number.

What does not legitimately move the price is a claimed approval. Nobody in this market is approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson to tutor your child privately, and a tutor charging a premium for implying otherwise is charging for nothing. The one credential that exists is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge, so it cannot honestly be used to justify a higher rate either.

03

One grade for three sciences: what 0653 actually is

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 is a single award. The student studies material drawn from biology, chemistry and physics and receives one grade covering all three. It is tiered, so Core candidates and Extended candidates sit different papers, and the assessment has the familiar Cambridge science shape of a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and a practical component. Always confirm the exact paper numbers and the practical choice against your child's statement of entry, and check the current syllabus on the Cambridge International website, because centres make the practical choice at their own level.

What a parent needs to understand about the single award is that it is not a reduced version of one science; it is a reduced version of three. Coverage of each strand goes less deep than a separate-subject syllabus, which makes the course manageable, and that reduction is exactly what post-16 admissions tutors are looking at when they set entry conditions. The content is real and the grade is real. The question is whether one science grade is enough for what your child wants next.

The practical consequence for tutoring is that 0653 rewards a generalist in a way separate sciences do not. A tutor needs to be genuinely comfortable moving from osmosis to mole calculations to circuit diagrams inside a single hour, which is a less common skill than it sounds and is the thing worth testing in a trial lesson. Ask a prospective tutor to explain a mole calculation and then a food-chain question. Hesitation on either is useful information.

The other consequence is that the loss is harder to locate. A student with three separate science grades knows which subject is weak. A 0653 student has one number that averages everything, so a marked paper broken down by strand is the only way to find out whether the problem is the biology recall, the chemistry arithmetic or the physics reasoning. That diagnostic is worth an hour before any teaching happens.

04

0653, 0654 or three separate sciences: cost against certificate

This is the decision that costs real money, and it is usually made on a Year 9 options form by a thirteen-year-old. The table compares the three routes on the two axes a family actually cares about: what supporting it costs across two years, and what the certificate leaves open afterwards.

The arithmetic on the left of the table is straightforward. At the same hourly rate, a family supporting one weekly session for a single-award course spends roughly half what a family supporting two weekly sessions for separate sciences spends. Over two years at AED 200 an hour, that difference runs into five figures in dirhams, which is not trivial even against Dubai school fees. The double award sits between the two, usually needing one longer session rather than two.

The column on the right is the one that matters more. Post-16 science entry conditions in Dubai are set school by school. Some sixth forms accept a combined or co-ordinated award for entry to a given A Level science and some ask for a grade in the separate subject, and the only reliable way to find out is to read your own school's published criteria or to ask the head of sixth form in writing. Dubai's provision is expanding quickly, with seven new private schools and 16,846 new places arriving for the 2026-27 intake, so a criterion that applied two years ago is not a safe guide.

Where a family has a genuine choice, the useful question is not which route is hardest but which route your child can carry alongside everything else on the timetable. A student taking three separate sciences and scraping passes has a worse certificate than the same student taking the double award and doing well, and a worse experience of Year 11. Where there is no choice because the school has made it, the arithmetic above still tells you what to budget.

Tutoring cost in context: fees, the KHDA freeze and a year of support

Tutoring is almost never budgeted against anything. It arrives as a monthly figure with no reference point, which is how a family ends up spending more on panic support in one spring term than on a year of planned weekly sessions. The table below puts a year of 0653 support next to the other education costs a Dubai family already carries, using published market figures rather than our own.

The anchor is the fee position. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For planning purposes that means the fixed part of the budget is known, so the variable part can be planned rather than reacted to.

The pattern across the rows is the familiar one. Weekly support from September costs more in total than an eight-week spring block and costs less per unit of improvement, because the spring block is triage rather than teaching. Two sessions a week is not twice as effective as one; it is the right answer only when a measured diagnostic says two strands both need rebuilding. And the cheapest line in the table is the diagnostic itself, which is an hour that regularly saves a family from buying the wrong plan.

One honest caveat on everything in this section. The market figures are published rates read in October 2026 and they move. The structure of the comparison is the durable part: price per hour of actual teaching, not per hour booked; plan from a baseline rather than from a worry; and do the arithmetic on monthly packages before comparing them with hourly quotes.

Which of the three sciences inside 0653 costs the most to fix

A single grade hides where the loss is, so the first useful piece of work is a marked paper broken down by strand. Across the 0653 scripts we see from Dubai students, the pattern is consistent enough to be worth stating: the biology marks are usually the most secure, the physics marks are the most volatile, and the chemistry marks are the most expensive to recover.

Chemistry is expensive because the losses are arithmetic rather than recall. Mole calculations, relative formula mass, reacting masses and anything involving concentration require a student to rearrange a relationship and carry units through it, and a candidate who cannot do that reliably loses the same marks in every paper regardless of how much chemistry they revise. Rebuilding it means going back to the maths, which takes several sessions before any chemistry marks move. Families often interpret that lag as the tutoring not working, when it is the only order in which it can work.

Physics is volatile for a related reason. Formula selection, unit conversion and graph interpretation are skills that either fire under exam pressure or do not, and a student who can do them calmly at home will still lose the marks in a timed paper if the routine is not automatic. The remedy is short, frequent and boring: the same calculation types repeated until the method is reflexive. It is cheap in hours and unpopular with teenagers.

Biology is usually the most secure strand, which creates its own trap. A student who feels competent in biology will choose to revise biology, because revision that feels productive is the revision people do. A tutor's least popular and most valuable contribution is to insist that the hour goes to the strand carrying the loss. That is also why the marked breakdown matters: it takes the argument out of the room and puts it in a document.

07

How many hours a 0653 student actually needs

This is the second half of the pricing question and the one that decides what you spend. The honest answer is that it depends on when you start and on what the diagnostic finds, but the ranges are not mysterious and anybody quoting a fixed package without seeing a marked paper is guessing.

A Year 10 student with no particular crisis, working weekly in step with the school, is looking at something like thirty sessions across the year. That is the cheapest effective pattern available, because it is teaching rather than repair, and it removes the need for an intensive block later. A Year 11 student starting after poor winter mocks typically needs eighteen to twenty-five sessions between February and the June series, weighted towards the strand carrying the measured loss, with the practical component taking four to six of those as its own protected strand.

A student six weeks out needs triage, and it is worth being blunt about what that can achieve. Six weeks at two sessions a week is twelve hours. Twelve hours can rebuild two topics properly, fix command-word technique across all three strands, and prepare the practical component. It cannot teach a year of unlearnt content, and a tutor who implies otherwise is selling you something. The right use of a short block is to concentrate it on the highest-yield weaknesses the baseline paper identifies, and to leave the rest alone deliberately.

The number to watch is not hours booked but movement between two comparable papers. If the second paper has not moved, more hours of the same plan will not move the third one. That is the point at which the plan changes or the tutor does, and it is a conversation we would rather start than have you chase. There is no refund promise tied to an outcome here, because an honest provider cannot offer one, and no grade guarantee, because nobody can.

08

Paying for tutoring in the UAE: permits, invoices and what free means

Three administrative points are worth knowing before money changes hands, and they are all things competitor pages in this market skip. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no amount can be quoted honestly. The official route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, with a stated completion time of two working days.

The second is tax. Ask every provider in writing whether a quoted figure includes VAT, because a quote that turns out to be exclusive changes the comparison you thought you were making. We will not state the VAT treatment of tuition fees as fact on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an assumption, and IB Gram publishes no tax registration number here. What a parent can reasonably insist on is a clear statement of whether the number quoted is the number payable.

The third is what free means. The trial lesson offered here is one full-length one-to-one session over live video, at no charge, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. That is the entire condition, stated in the same place as the offer, which is how any free claim should be made. If another provider's free trial requires a card, a minimum booking or a sign-up to a monthly plan, those conditions should appear next to the word free rather than three clicks away.

One last disclosure belonging in this section. IB Gram is an independent matching platform with no premises anywhere in the UAE and no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with physical premises and annual renewal requirements. We are not approved, accredited or endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson, and no school named on this page has any relationship with us. Those bodies appear here because understanding them helps a parent spend sensibly.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Hourly rates in Dubai are not uniform across the city, and the reason is almost entirely travel. These are the communities we are asked about most for combined science, and what the local market tends to look like.

Deira and Al Rigga

Older, densely populated and well served by a wide range of schools. The local tutoring market here is competitive at the budget end, which pushes quoted rates down, and genuinely thin for a specific syllabus code at Extended tier.

Al Karama and Oud Metha

Central and accessible, with several long-established schools nearby. In-home rates here sit lower than in the outer communities simply because travel is short, which makes it the one part of Dubai where the price gap between formats narrows.

International City

Large apartment population a long way from the main school clusters. In-home quotes here carry a visible travel premium, and families consistently report that evening bookings arrive late. Video delivery removes both problems at once.

Al Warqa'a and Mirdif South

Established villa and apartment mix with a dense school cluster nearby covering several curricula and a wide ability range. Core and Extended entries commonly sit in the same year group here, which makes the tier question the first thing a tutor should ask.

Nad Al Sheba

Spread-out villa community where journeys are long in every direction. Families here report the largest difference between a quoted hourly rate and the real cost per hour of teaching once travel is counted in.

Town Square and Mudon

Newer communities a long way south of the established school corridors. Secondary students travel out by bus, so a 17:30 session start is realistic and anything earlier usually is not.

Remraam and Dubailand

Affordable family housing with growing school provision and small Year 11 cohorts. Whole-class revision provision is limited, which is why families here often start weekly support in Year 10 rather than buying triage in Year 11.

Al Quoz and Barsha Heights

Mixed residential and commercial, central enough that in-home travel costs are modest. The local pool is mostly general science tutors rather than tier specialists for a particular syllabus code.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Deira, Garhoud and the eastern school corridor

A wide spread of curricula and a wide ability range inside the same year groups, inspected by KHDA on its six-band scale. Combined and co-ordinated science entries are common here, and students we support frequently arrive without knowing whether the entry is single or double award.

  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Our Own English High School
  • The Westminster School
  • Al Ittihad Private School Al Mamzar
  • Dubai Scholars Private School

Southern Dubai: Dubailand, Town Square and Remraam

Newer and fast-growing provision with secondary cohorts still building, which means revision support inside school varies year to year. Families we work with in these communities tend to start earlier and buy fewer total hours as a result.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Establish tier and board first

Core or Extended, Cambridge 0653 or a Pearson equivalent, and which practical component. A quote given before these are known is a guess, because Extended preparation covers a wider body of material. The statement of entry has all three, and the exams officer at your child's school can confirm them by email.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper for a strand breakdown

A single combined-science grade averages three sciences and hides the loss. A recent script marked and broken down by strand tells us whether the problem is biology recall, chemistry arithmetic or physics reasoning, and those three need different plans and different numbers of hours.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, no card details

One full-length one-to-one session over live video at no charge, with no obligation to continue. Use part of it to test whether the tutor is genuinely comfortable across all three strands: ask for a mole calculation and then a food-chain explanation, back to back, and listen for hesitation.

  4. 04

Agree the hours and the price in writing

Session length, number of sessions, whether the figure includes VAT, and what happens if you stop. Monthly packages need dividing before they can be compared with hourly quotes. Anything described as free should carry its conditions in the same sentence as the word.

  5. 05

Review against a second comparable paper

Six weeks in, the same paper format under the same timing, marked the same way, with the strand breakdown repeated. If it has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does. Buying more hours of a plan that is not working is the most common way money is wasted in this market.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure on this page carries its source

Market rates are attributed to the provider or survey that published them and dated to October 2026. None of them is presented as IB Gram's price. That is the opposite of the pattern in this market, where three of six ranking pages publish no price at all and one contradicts its own structured data.

One tutor for the whole single award

0653 awards one grade across three sciences, so the economical arrangement is one tutor who can genuinely hold all three strands. That removes duplicate diagnostics, handover loss and two of the three invoices, and it is testable in a trial lesson rather than taken on trust.

The diagnostic comes before the quote

A strand-by-strand breakdown of a marked paper decides how many hours are needed and where they go. Chemistry arithmetic takes longer to repair than biology recall, so the same student can need twelve hours or twenty-five depending on what the script shows. Quoting before that is guesswork.

No premium for credentials nobody holds

The only tutoring credential that exists in the UAE is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and it is issued free of charge. Nobody can charge a premium for a regulator approval in private tutoring, because no regulator issues one, and claims of current examiner status should be evidenced before they are paid for.

Free means free, with the conditions in the same place

The trial is one full-length one-to-one video session, at no cost, with no card details taken and no obligation. Those are all the conditions and they appear beside the offer rather than in a footnote, which is the standard any provider should be held to in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 tutor cost in Dubai?+

Published Dubai market rates as of October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, an exam specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, and an in-home visit including travel at AED 180 to 500. Budget online options start around AED 45, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes. Because 0653 is a single award covering all three sciences, it usually sits in the general-science band rather than the specialist band.

Is one tutor for 0653 cheaper than hiring three separate science tutors?+

Substantially, and that is the main financial argument for the single award. 0653 awards one grade across biology, chemistry and physics, so one tutor who is genuinely comfortable across all three strands can hold the whole syllabus. You pay for one session a week rather than two or three, one diagnostic rather than three, and no coordination between tutors. The caveat is real: a tutor who is a biologist pretending to be at ease with mole calculations and circuit questions will cost you a wasted term, which is far more expensive than the hourly difference.

Why do two Dubai tutors quote AED 150 and AED 450 for what sounds like the same thing?+

Five factors move the number and only one is qualifications. Format and travel is the largest, because somebody pays for the drive. Proximity to the exam series is second: March demand in Dubai is heavy and tutors with full diaries do not discount. Then session length and block commitment, how many of the three strands you need covered, and the tier, since Extended preparation is a wider body of material than Core. A quote given before anyone has checked whether your child is a Core or Extended candidate is a guess rather than a price.

Do science tutoring rates in Dubai rise closer to the June series?+

In practice, yes, because demand concentrates between the winter mock results and the exam period while the supply of experienced tutors does not change. A tutor with a full March diary has no reason to discount, and the hours left available at that point tend to be the awkward ones. Booking the same person in September or October usually costs less per hour and buys teaching rather than triage. If you are already in the spring, the sensible response is to scope the block tightly from a marked baseline rather than to buy open-ended hours.

Is a small group class at the budget end worth it for Combined Science?+

It depends entirely on what the problem is. Group teaching at AED 45 to 150 per student is genuinely cheaper and genuinely less targeted, and for a 0653 student that matters more than it would for a single subject. A group is usually set by year rather than by tier, and the single grade means different students in the room are losing marks in different sciences. If your child needs content coverage, a group can work. If the loss is concentrated in chemistry arithmetic, a group will not reach it.

What is the practical difference between Combined Science 0653 and Co-ordinated Sciences 0654?+

0653 is a single award giving one science grade; 0654 is a double award giving two grades from one course, with more content across the same three sciences. In cost terms the double award needs more hours rather than a higher hourly rate, usually one longer weekly session rather than two. In certificate terms the double award puts two science grades on the record, which helps both with sixth-form entry conditions and with the Ministry of Education equivalency count of five accredited subjects on the British track.

Will a single combined science award limit my daughter's A Level options in Dubai?+

It can, and the answer is school-specific rather than national. Some Dubai sixth forms accept a combined or co-ordinated award for entry to a given A Level science and some ask for a grade in the separate subject. The only reliable way to find out is to read your own school's published entry criteria or ask the head of sixth form in writing, ideally before the Year 9 options form is signed. Dubai provision is changing quickly, with seven new private schools and 16,846 new places arriving for 2026-27, so older criteria are not a safe guide.

How many sessions does a Year 11 0653 student usually need before the exam?+

Starting after the winter mocks, eighteen to twenty-five sessions between February and a June series is the usual range, weighted towards the strand the marked paper shows is weakest, with four to six of those protected for the practical component. A Year 10 student working weekly in step with the school is looking at around thirty sessions across the year, which is the cheapest effective pattern because it is teaching rather than repair. A student starting six weeks out has twelve hours and should spend them on triage.

Which of the three sciences inside 0653 takes the longest to fix?+

Chemistry, almost always, because the losses are arithmetic rather than recall. Mole calculations, relative formula mass, reacting masses and concentration all require rearranging a relationship and carrying units through it, so rebuilding them means going back to the maths before any chemistry marks move. Families often read that lag as the tutoring failing. Physics marks are the most volatile, needing short repeated drilling until the method is automatic under time pressure. Biology is usually the most secure strand, which is why students choose to revise it.

Are tutoring fees in Dubai quoted with VAT included?+

Ask, in writing, every time. A quote that turns out to be exclusive of tax changes the comparison you believed you were making, and providers in this market are inconsistent about stating it. We will not assert the VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that needs a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an assumption, and IB Gram publishes no tax registration number here. What you can insist on from any provider is a plain statement of whether the figure quoted is the figure payable.

Should I buy a monthly package or pay by the hour for 0653 support?+

Divide before you decide. Packages seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which works out near AED 100 a session, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which works out near AED 200 an hour. A package is good value when the sessions will definitely be used and poor value when the plan is still unclear. For a first month, hourly or a short defined block keeps the decision reversible, which matters more than the small discount.

Does my tutor need a UAE licence, and does that make the lessons more expensive?+

A permit is required and it does not justify a higher price. Private tutoring in the UAE falls under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years to eligible applicants, who include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor using it to justify a premium is charging for paperwork.

What should I send a tutor to get an accurate quote for 0653 support?+

Four things, and they take five minutes to gather. The statement of entry, which shows the syllabus code, the tier and the practical component. A photograph of the most recent marked science assessment with the marks visible. The school's scheme of work or a note of which topics have been taught. And the date of the exam series your child is entered for. With those, a quote is a calculation. Without them, every number you are given is a guess dressed as a price.

If we stop 0653 sessions after a fortnight, what happens to the money?+

You should never be in a position where that question is expensive to answer, which is why the first step here is a free full-length trial lesson with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. Beyond that, agree in writing how sessions are paid for and what notice applies before you commit to a block. We publish no refund promise tied to an outcome and no grade guarantee, because neither would be honest. What exists instead is a documented plan and a second comparable paper that shows whether it worked.

Price the diagnostic before you price the package

The cheapest hour you will spend on Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 support in Dubai is the one that establishes where the marks are going. A single grade covering three sciences hides the loss, and a plan built without that breakdown is how families end up paying for twenty hours of biology revision while the chemistry arithmetic stays broken. Get the tier from the statement of entry, get a recent paper marked by strand, then decide how many hours you are buying and from whom. The trial lesson is a full-length one-to-one video session at no charge, with no card details taken.
