IB DP History Home Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP history home tutor in Dubai is quoted anywhere between AED 150 and AED 650 an hour, and the number moves with level, how close the May session is, and whether the tutor has actually taught the Paper 3 regional option. IB Gram matches your child with a Diploma History specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the hour you pay for is teaching and marking rather than a drive across Dubai.

  • Dubai market rates read from providers' own pages in October 2026
  • Paper 1 carries 30% at Standard Level and 20% at Higher Level
  • The historical investigation is capped at 2,200 words and 25 marks

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What an IB DP History home tutor in Dubai actually costs, and what the fee is paying for

Families searching for an IB DP history home tutor in Dubai are usually asking two questions at once: what does this cost, and is it worth paying for a subject the child is already passing. The honest answer to the first is a range rather than a price. Rates read from Dubai providers' own public pages in October 2026 start near AED 33 an hour for a shared online slot and reach AED 650 an hour for a named premium tutor, with qualified subject specialists clustering between AED 200 and AED 450. Diploma History sits towards the top of that cluster at Higher Level, for one reason: Paper 3 is a regional option that only a minority of tutors have taught through to a final grade.

An hourly figure is buying three separate things, and most quotes do not separate them. The first is the live hour itself. The second is the marking that happens outside it, which for History means reading a 15-mark essay properly against the markbands and writing back something more useful than a tick. The third is subject knowledge narrow enough to matter: a tutor who knows that Question 2 on Paper 1 rewards origin and purpose, not a complaint about bias, saves a student four marks a paper. A rate that looks low usually has the second and third items removed from it.

The in-home figure in Dubai carries a cost nobody puts on the invoice. Bestimate's Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to AED 500. The gap between that and the online band is travel, and travel is also what shrinks your choice of tutor. A family in Mirdif choosing from the tutors willing to drive to Mirdif at 5pm on a Tuesday is choosing from a much shorter list than a family choosing from every Diploma History specialist available at that hour.

IB Gram works the other way round. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around school hours and prayer times. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. That is a deliberate trade: your child gets a History specialist who has taught the Americas or Europe regional option, rather than whoever happens to live twenty minutes away. The trial lesson is free, with no card needed, and no package has to be bought before it.

The rest of this page is built around the number. There is a table of what the Dubai market charges and who publishes each figure, a breakdown of what changes a quote, the assessment structure that explains why Higher Level costs more, the three sections of the historical investigation, the Diploma year counted backwards from the May session, the line a tutor may not cross on coursework, and the permit question every Dubai parent should ask before paying anyone.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

History reaches IB Gram's tutors through three IB routes, and the teaching is different in each. A Middle Years student is building the habit of using evidence; a Diploma candidate is being marked against published markbands; a Career-related student is sitting the same Diploma History course with less timetabled contact.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme History

The course every search for a DP History tutor is about. Students sit a one-hour source paper on one prescribed subject, a 90-minute paper covering two of twelve world history topics, and at Higher Level a 150-minute paper on one of four regional options. Alongside the papers sits the historical investigation, 2,200 words, marked out of 25 by the school and moderated by the IB.

Dubai's IB Diploma cohort is a minority of a very large private sector: KHDA recorded 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with the IB accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment against 37 per cent for UK curricula. One practical effect is that a Diploma History class in Dubai is often small, so a student who falls behind on Paper 3 has few classmates to compare notes with.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Individuals and Societies

The feeder course. MYP History is assessed on four criteria rather than markbands, which means strong MYP writing can still be the wrong shape for Diploma Paper 2. The habits worth fixing early are using a source rather than describing it, and answering a command term instead of writing everything known about a period.

Several Dubai schools run the MYP straight into the Diploma, so students arrive in DP1 having never sat a timed essay under exam conditions. Others switch their cohort to IGCSE at 14 and then into the Diploma, which produces the opposite gap: confident timed writing, no experience of criterion-referenced coursework. Sessions start by identifying which of the two gaps a Dubai student has.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme with Diploma History

Career-related students take at least two Diploma courses, and History is a common choice alongside business or sports-related pathways. The syllabus and the markbands are identical to the Diploma version, so the teaching is the same. What differs is timetabled contact time, which is often lower, and the reflective project running in parallel.

Dubai has a smaller number of schools offering the Career-related Programme than the Diploma, and a Career-related History student can end up as the only one in a school taking that subject. That is the clearest case for one-to-one teaching: there is no class to be taught alongside, and the published markbands are unforgiving about essays written without feedback.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma History is not one syllabus, it is a set of routes a school picks from. These are the ones Dubai schools most often teach, and the ones IB Gram's History tutors cover. Check your child's choices against the school's own course outline before booking, because Paper 1 and Paper 3 are not interchangeable between schools.

Paper 1: The move to global war

SL and HL

Japanese expansion in East Asia 1931-41 and Italian and German expansion 1933-40. The most commonly taught prescribed subject in Dubai. Source work centres on Manchuria, Abyssinia and the Rhineland, where students confuse the chronology of League of Nations responses and lose the Question 4 judgement mark.

Paper 1: Rights and protest

SL and HL

The civil rights movement in the United States 1954-65 and apartheid South Africa 1948-64. Rich in photographs and speeches, which is where students over-trust a visual source. Value and limitations marks come from naming the photographer's purpose, not from observing that a photograph is staged.

Paper 1: Conflict and intervention

SL and HL

Rwanda 1990-98 and Kosovo 1989-2002. The newest of the five prescribed subjects and the one with the thinnest textbook coverage, so a tutor's own source selection matters more here. Students struggle to separate causes of conflict from the stated justifications for intervention.

Paper 2: Authoritarian states (20th century)

SL and HL

Emergence, consolidation and the aims and results of domestic policy, examined across two regions. The most popular Paper 2 topic worldwide and the one most often answered badly, because students write a narrative of one leader instead of a comparative argument answering the command term.

Paper 2: Causes and effects of 20th-century wars

SL and HL

Long and short-term causes, practices and effects, again across two regions. The trap is scale: an essay on the causes of the Second World War that stays in Europe cannot access the top markband, because the examiner is looking for two regions properly used, not mentioned.

Paper 2: The Cold War - superpower tensions and rivalries

SL and HL

Rivalry, mistrust and accord, leaders and nations, and Cold War crises. Chronologically huge and therefore the hardest to revise late. Sessions build a crisis-by-crisis grid with dates, actors and outcomes, because Paper 2 essays here fail on precision rather than argument.

Paper 2: Independence movements (1800-2000)

SL and HL

Origins and rise of independence movements, methods, and the challenges of newly independent states. Taught less often in Dubai, which means fewer revision resources and a stronger case for one-to-one teaching built on the school's own case studies.

Paper 3: History of Europe

HL only

One of four regional options, worth 35% of the Higher Level grade on its own. Three essays in 150 minutes from a wide choice of eighteen sections. Students arrive at this paper with less preparation than any other component because schools teach it in DP2.

Paper 3: History of the Americas

HL only

The regional option chosen by many Dubai schools with North American teaching staff. Same shape as the European option: three essays, 15 marks each, 150 minutes. Revision is manageable only if a student narrows to five or six sections and knows them in real depth.

Internal assessment: the historical investigation

SL and HL

A 2,200-word investigation on a question of the student's own choosing, in three sections: identification and evaluation of sources, the investigation itself, and a reflection. Marked out of 25 by the school, then moderated. Worth 25% at Standard Level and 20% at Higher Level.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai families buy Diploma History teaching from IB Gram, each with a different cost shape. All three are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, with the session time set in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one through the Diploma

One or two hours a week across DP1 and DP2, following the school's own scheme of work. The tutor marks one piece of written work between sessions, which is where most of the grade movement happens. This is the lowest cost per mark gained and the model most Dubai families start with.

  • One timed essay or source question marked between every session
  • Markband feedback in writing, not just a grade
  • Session time fixed to Gulf Standard Time, adjusted for Ramadan hours
  • Pauses for school exam weeks without losing the slot

Historical investigation clinic

A short block of three to five sessions around the internal assessment: narrowing the question, testing whether the sources exist, understanding what the three sections are marked on, and reading one draft. The tutor teaches and gives feedback. The investigation remains entirely the student's own work.

  • Question tested against sources that genuinely exist and are accessible
  • Section 1 source evaluation taught through origin, purpose and content
  • One draft read, with written feedback against the published criteria
  • No material supplied for the student to submit as their own

Pre-session paper drill

A concentrated block in the weeks before the May session, built on timed questions rather than content coverage. Standard Level students drill Paper 1 and two Paper 2 topics; Higher Level students spend most of the block on Paper 3, because it is worth more than any other single component and is usually the least rehearsed.

  • Paper 1 run to the clock at roughly 2.5 minutes per mark
  • Paper 2 essays written in 45 minutes, marked against the 15-mark bands
  • Paper 3 narrowed to five or six sections known in real depth
  • Command-term drill: evaluate, examine, to what extent, discuss

What the Dubai market charges for Diploma History tuition

  • Ask for the rate per 60 minutes, not per session, before the first lesson
  • Ask whether marking between sessions is included or billed separately
  • Ask whether the tutor has taught your child's exact Paper 1 and Paper 3 options
  • Ask what happens to unused hours if the match does not work

A Diploma History tutor in Dubai costs between AED 150 and AED 450 an hour at the qualified-specialist end of the market, with cheaper shared-online options below that and named premium tutors above it. Every figure in the table was read from the provider's own published page in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price: IB Gram quotes per match, after a free trial lesson, because a Standard Level student needing Paper 1 technique and a Higher Level student starting the Europe regional option are not buying the same hour.

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. That is the single most useful thing to know before you ring anyone: a page that will not name a currency UAE families transact in is not going to name a rate either. The figures below are published, dated and attributable, and you should expect any tutor you contact to be equally specific before the first session rather than after it.

Read the monthly row carefully. An advertised AED 799 package for eight online sessions is close to AED 100 an hour, which sounds cheaper than everything above it until you check session length and whether marking is included. An AED 1,599 in-home package for four two-hour visits is AED 200 an hour, with travel folded in. The per-hour figure is the only comparable number, and working it out before you sign is worth more than any discount on offer.

Six things that move a History tutoring quote in this emirate

  • Higher Level costs more because Paper 3 specialists are genuinely scarce
  • Booking late buys the scarcest hours of the year at the worst rate
  • A 90-minute session is usually cheaper per hour than a 60-minute one
  • Marking between sessions is where the grade moves; confirm it is included
  • In-home travel premiums vary by community and are never itemised

The same tutor will quote two different numbers to two Dubai families in the same week, and the reasons are predictable. Level is the largest single factor. Higher Level History carries Paper 3, a 150-minute paper on one regional option worth 35% of the grade, and the pool of tutors who have taught a regional option through to a final grade is much smaller than the pool who can teach Paper 1 source skills. Scarcity sets that price, not prestige.

Proximity to the session is the second factor. A family booking in September for a May sitting is buying a weekly slot at a standard rate. A family booking eight weeks out is buying scarce evening hours in the busiest period of the tutoring year, and intensive blocks are quoted accordingly. The third is session length: a 90-minute slot usually costs less per hour than a 60-minute one, because the tutor's preparation and marking is spread over more teaching time.

The remaining three are worth asking about explicitly. Whether marking is included changes the real cost of an hour more than any headline rate. Whether the tutor teaches your child's exact options matters, because a History tutor who has taught Rights and protest but not The move to global war will spend your first three sessions learning the material. And in-home delivery adds a travel premium that varies by community: the same tutor charges a Mirdif family more than a Barsha family for reasons that have nothing to do with teaching. Online removes that line from the invoice.

03

Paper 1: twenty-four marks, four questions, one hour

Paper 1 is the component where tutoring produces the fastest measurable change, because the four questions reward a technique rather than a body of knowledge. The paper gives four sources on a prescribed subject and asks four questions worth 3+2, 4, 6 and 9 marks, for 24 in total, in sixty minutes. A student who has learned the shape of each question can gain several marks within a handful of sessions without learning any new history at all.

The two questions that cost Dubai students most are the 4-mark value and limitations question and the 9-mark judgement. On the first, students write about bias in the abstract. The marks are in origin, purpose and content: who produced this, why, and what that does to its usefulness for the specific question asked. A speech given to rally supporters has a purpose that limits it as evidence of public opinion and makes it valuable as evidence of how a government wanted to be heard. That sentence is the mark.

The 9-mark question fails on time and coverage rather than on argument. It needs all four sources and some of the student's own knowledge, and it is routinely attempted with eleven minutes left and three sources used. The fix is mechanical: allocate on the mark weighting, roughly two and a half minutes per mark, and write the Question 4 plan before answering Question 3. Sessions run this to the clock until the allocation is automatic rather than intended.

DP HISTORY PAPER 1 - WHAT EACH QUESTION IS ACTUALLY TESTING
QuestionMarksWhat the examiner is testingWhere Dubai students lose it
Question 1 (a) and (b)3 + 2Direct comprehension of two sourcesParaphrasing the source instead of extracting separate points; writing a paragraph where three distinct points earn the marks
Question 24Value and limitations of one source, using origin, purpose and contentGeneric complaints about bias; listing a limitation that is really a strength for the question asked
Question 36Compare and contrast two sourcesTwo separate summaries with no linking sentence; three comparisons and no contrasts
Question 49A judgement on the question using all four sources plus own knowledgeStarting with eleven minutes left; using three sources; no own knowledge at all
Whole paper24Sixty minutes, roughly 2.5 minutes per markOver-writing the 6-mark compare and leaving the 9-mark judgement half-finished

Why Higher Level History costs more: how the grade is assembled

Standard Level and Higher Level History share Paper 1 and Paper 2 and the historical investigation. Higher Level adds Paper 3, and that single addition reorders everything. At Standard Level, Paper 2 is the biggest component at 45%, so the sensible tutoring priority is two world history topics taught to essay standard. At Higher Level, Paper 2 drops to 25% and Paper 3 arrives at 35%, which means the largest component of the grade is a paper most schools begin teaching in DP2.

That is the structural reason a Higher Level quote is higher. It is also the reason a Higher Level student who starts tutoring in February is in a worse position than a Standard Level student who starts at the same time. Three essays in 150 minutes on a regional option, chosen from eighteen sections, is not a technique problem that can be drilled in six weeks. It is a knowledge problem, and knowledge takes months.

The practical plan differs by level and is worth stating plainly to any tutor you speak to. A Standard Level student should be spending roughly half of session time on Paper 2 essay construction and most of the rest on Paper 1 technique, with the investigation handled in a short block. A Higher Level student should narrow Paper 3 to five or six sections early in DP2, learn those properly, and treat Paper 1 as the component to be polished in the final weeks because it responds to drilling faster than anything else.

05

The historical investigation: 2,200 words, three sections, twenty-five marks

  • Section 1: two sources evaluated on origin, purpose, value and limitation
  • Section 2: an argued investigation, not a narrative of events
  • Section 3: a short reflection on the historian's method, worth easy marks
  • The 2,200-word limit excludes footnote citations but not quotations in the body
  • Test the question against sources that are genuinely reachable before writing

The internal assessment is the component where a tutor's role has to be described precisely, because the rules are strict and the consequences of breaking them fall on the student. The investigation is a 2,200-word piece on a question the student chooses, in three sections: identification and evaluation of sources, the investigation itself, and a reflection on what doing the work revealed about the discipline. The school marks it out of 25 and the IB moderates.

Most lost marks are structural rather than historical. Section 1 asks for an evaluation of two sources using origin, purpose, value and limitation, and students instead summarise what the sources say. The investigation section needs an argument with evidence, not a chronology. The reflection is short and is routinely treated as an afterthought, when it is the easiest section to do well in because it asks a question the student can actually answer: what did researching this teach you about how historians work.

Question choice is the other half of the problem, and it happens before any writing. A question that cannot be answered with sources a student in Dubai can reach is a question that will produce a weak investigation however hard they work. Sessions test a question against real availability first: library access through the school, open archives, published collections. A tutor teaches that process, reads one draft and writes feedback against the published criteria. The investigation itself has to be the student's own work from the first word to the last, and no IB Gram tutor supplies finished coursework for a student to submit.

06

The Diploma History year counted backwards from the May session

Nobody in this search publishes a calendar, and it is the single most useful thing a parent can be given. The table below counts backwards from the May session that Dubai schools sit, in relative terms rather than dates. That is deliberate. IB session and results dates in this project have not been confirmed against ibo.org, which blocks automated checking, so the only dates you should act on are the ones your school's IB coordinator gives you in writing.

Two deadlines on the list are set by your school rather than the IB, and they are the ones that bite. The internal deadline for the historical investigation usually sits around six months before the session, which means the work is being done in the same term as the heaviest content teaching for Paper 3. Families who treat the investigation as a DP2 problem discover that it collides with the only term available for learning the regional option.

The useful habit is to work from the table in reverse at the start of DP1 and mark two dates in a shared calendar: the school's investigation deadline and the week mock papers are sat. Everything else arranges itself around those two. A tutoring plan built this way costs less overall, because the expensive hours are the ones bought in a panic eight weeks before a paper. Ramadan falls inside the revision window in the current cycle, which shifts evening study later for many Dubai households and is worth planning for rather than discovering in week one.

One more entry belongs on any family's version of this table, and it is the enquiry upon results window after grades are published. A remark or a category-two enquiry has to be requested through the school within a fixed period, and the decision is usually made in a few rushed days in July when families are travelling. Ask the IB coordinator in DP2, not in July, what the school's internal cut-off is and what evidence it wants before it will submit one.

Where a History tutor has to stop: academic honesty in practice

  • A tutor teaches technique, explains markbands and gives written feedback
  • A tutor never supplies text or finished coursework for submission
  • Ask to see what feedback on a draft actually looks like before booking
  • Published past papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, never copied out

This search returns at least one provider selling completed internal assessments. That is not a cheaper version of tutoring, it is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the student rather than the seller. A candidate found to have submitted work that is not their own faces an IB malpractice investigation and can lose the Diploma. No price makes that a reasonable risk, and any page offering it should end your consideration of that provider.

The boundary itself is not vague once it is stated. A tutor may teach the skills a component needs, explain what the markbands reward, discuss a question the student has chosen, point towards the kinds of source that exist, read a draft the student has written, and give feedback in writing on what is weak and why. A tutor may not supply text for the student to use, rewrite paragraphs into a final form, or hand over an answer to be submitted.

The practical test a parent can apply is simple. Ask what the tutor sends back after reading a draft. Feedback that names criteria and asks questions is teaching. A returned document with new sentences in it is not, and a student who submits it has a problem that no grade improvement compensates for. IB Gram tutors work on the student's own writing, and the authorship declaration a candidate signs is one the student should be able to sign honestly.

The same boundary applies to materials. Published IB, Cambridge and Pearson papers, mark schemes and subject guides are referenced and linked to their official source rather than copied into a handout, because reproducing them is a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. Generative tools sit in the same category: a student may use them to find reading, and may not use them to produce sentences that go into an assessed piece. Dubai schools increasingly ask candidates to log their research process, and a student who has been taught to keep that log has an easier conversation if the question is ever asked.

Permits, regulators and checking a Dubai tutor is allowed to teach

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine amount is published for tutoring without a permit; treat any figure as unverified
  • KHDA inspects Dubai private schools from Outstanding to Very Weak
  • Ask any tutor directly whether they hold the MoHRE permit

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and most parents are never told this. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted to you as fact.

MoHRE's own service page is titled 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee, and states a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app and e-services system. That is the route to point any tutor towards, and the answer to the awkward question of whether yours holds one is simply to ask. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram is neither approved nor endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no page here should suggest otherwise.

Dubai's schools are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, Sharjah with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which is a rule worth knowing before accepting a well-meant offer from inside the staff room.

09

Tutoring cost in the context of a Dubai school-fee budget

  • One weekly specialist hour across a 36-week year: roughly AED 7,200-16,200
  • KHDA confirmed no private-school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • Early hours in DP1 cost less and achieve more than panic hours in DP2
  • Coverage limits are disclosed before you book, not after

A tutoring decision is made inside a household budget that is already carrying school fees, and the figure that matters is annual rather than hourly. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For families planning two years of Diploma support, that stability is the one fixed point in the calculation.

Work the arithmetic forwards rather than backwards. One weekly hour at the specialist band through a 36-week school year sits between roughly AED 7,200 and AED 16,200 across the year, depending on where in the band the tutor falls. Two hours a week doubles it. A short investigation clinic of four sessions is a one-off cost. A pre-session intensive block is a third line. Most Dubai families who get good value buy one weekly hour across DP1 and DP2 rather than a large block in the final term, because the cheaper hours are the early ones.

The supply question belongs in the same conversation. Diploma History specialists who have taught a specific regional option are not evenly available across every evening hour in Gulf Standard Time, and a page that pretends otherwise is hiding something. If no UAE-based specialist covers your child's exact option at the hour you need, IB Gram says so and offers the nearest alternative, which may be a tutor teaching from India on the same Gulf Standard Time slot. The rate is quoted before the trial, and nothing is booked until you have seen the teaching.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities, their Diploma schools, and what the commute does to a History session

Where a family lives in Dubai changes two things about tutoring: which Diploma schools are realistic, and what time a session can actually start. The notes below are about scheduling and school clusters, not about sending anyone to an address.

Emirates Hills and Dubai Hills Estate

Served by Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and the Dubai Hills schools. Buses release late, so a 6pm start works better than 5pm for a DP2 student who also has a Paper 3 reading list to get through.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

The densest school cluster in the emirate, with both Diploma and A Level options within a few kilometres. History groups here are often large enough to be taught as a class, which makes one-to-one useful mainly for Paper 1 source technique.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Apartment-heavy, with families commuting into Media City and Internet City. Sessions land best between 7pm and 9pm once a parent is home, and a quiet room matters more than it does in a villa community.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Further from the Diploma cluster on the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor, so school runs are long and in-home tutoring here carries the heaviest travel premium in the market. Online removes that premium entirely.

Arabian Ranches and Motor City

Villa communities with established Diploma feeders nearby. Weekend mornings are genuinely viable here, which suits timed Paper 2 essay practice better than a weekday evening after seven hours of school.

Deira, Al Garhoud and Festival City

Older Dubai, with long-established private schools running both Indian and international curricula. Students switching from a CBSE background into Diploma History need extra work on argument structure rather than content recall.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Mostly apartments, with students bussed out to schools in Barsha, Nad Al Sheba or Jumeirah. Evening traffic on the Al Khail corridor is the practical reason many of these families book online rather than in-home sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Diploma History along the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor

The schools most Dubai families mean when they say they want a Diploma History tutor. Several run the Middle Years Programme underneath the Diploma, so students reach DP1 with coursework experience but little timed essay practice.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • Dubai American Academy

Diploma History in Jumeirah, Mirdif and the northern communities

A second cluster, smaller and more spread out. Diploma History groups in these schools can be in single figures, which is why a student who misses two weeks of the regional option has very little to catch up against.

  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Universal American School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Villa-community Diploma schools: Ranches, Hills and Meadows

Schools serving the villa belt, several of which offer both the Diploma and A Levels, so a History student may be choosing between the two routes in Year 11 and needs the assessment difference explained before choosing.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Hartland International School

Schools are named here as context for the Dubai Diploma market only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the options, not just the subject

Diploma History is a set of routes. The useful first message names the prescribed subject for Paper 1, the two world history topics for Paper 2, the regional option if your child is at Higher Level, and the stage the historical investigation has reached. That one paragraph decides which tutors are a genuine match.

  2. 02

See the rate before the trial

IB Gram quotes per match rather than publishing a single price, because a Standard Level technique block and a two-year Higher Level plan are different pieces of work. The quote arrives with the proposed tutor and the proposed hour, in AED, per 60 minutes, with marking stated as included or not.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One full session at no cost, with no card details and no package attached. Watch for one thing in particular: does the tutor mark the student's actual writing in the session, or talk about history. The first moves a grade and the second is a lecture your child can get free on the internet.

  4. 04

Fix a weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time

A repeating hour set around school pick-up, bus times and prayer times, with Ramadan timings adjusted when the session would otherwise sit across Iftar. The slot pauses for school exam weeks and holidays without being lost, because consistency across two Diploma years is what produces movement.

  5. 05

Review the evidence every six weeks

Marked Paper 1 questions, timed Paper 2 essays with band scores, and the state of the investigation, reviewed together. If the marks are not moving after six weeks of consistent work, the match or the plan changes. That review is the point at which a different tutor is offered rather than argued against.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate is named before you commit

Three of the six most visible pages in this search publish no price and two quote in US dollars. IB Gram quotes in AED, per 60 minutes, before the trial lesson, and states whether marking between sessions is included. You can compare that figure against the published market table on this page.

Matched on the option, not the subject

A History tutor who has taught Rights and protest is not interchangeable with one who has taught The move to global war, and a Paper 3 specialist in the Americas is not a Europe specialist. Matching happens at that level, which is why the first question asked is about options rather than grades.

Marking is where the grade moves

A 15-mark Paper 2 essay read properly against the markbands produces more improvement than an hour of content revision. Every weekly plan includes one marked piece of written work between sessions, with feedback that names the band and the reason, not a grade and a tick.

The coursework line is stated, not implied

Competitors in this search sell completed internal assessments. IB Gram tutors teach the skills, explain the criteria, discuss the student's chosen question and give written feedback on a draft. No text is supplied for submission, because the risk of that falls entirely on your child.

Coverage limits are disclosed up front

Diploma History specialists for a specific regional option are not available in every evening hour. When no UAE-based tutor covers the exact option at the time you need, you are told, and offered the nearest alternative on the same Gulf Standard Time slot with the rate stated beforehand.

Delivery is online and the page says so

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The trade is deliberate: a specialist in your child's exact paper instead of whoever is within driving distance.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB DP History tutor in Dubai cost per hour?+

Published Dubai rates in October 2026 run from about AED 33 an hour for shared online sessions to AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Qualified subject specialists cluster between AED 200 and AED 450, and in-home visits run AED 180 to AED 500 once travel is priced in. Higher Level History sits towards the top of the specialist band because the Paper 3 regional option is taught by a smaller pool of tutors. Those are market figures read from providers' own pages, not IB Gram prices. IB Gram quotes per match in AED, per 60 minutes, before the free trial lesson.

Why does Higher Level History cost more per hour than Standard Level?+

Because of Paper 3. Higher Level students sit a 150-minute paper on one regional option, writing three essays worth 15 marks each, and that paper alone is 35% of the grade. The pool of tutors who have taught a regional option through to a final grade is much smaller than the pool who can teach Paper 1 source technique, and scarcity sets the rate. Standard Level students sit Papers 1 and 2 and the investigation only, where Paper 2 is the largest component at 45%. The teaching plan is genuinely different, not just priced differently.

Is the Paper 3 regional option worth paying a specialist rate for?+

At Higher Level, yes, and earlier than most families think. Paper 3 is 35% of the grade, offers three essays from eighteen sections, and is taught in DP2 in most Dubai schools, which leaves the largest component of the grade as the least rehearsed. A tutor who has taught that option helps a student narrow to five or six sections and learn them in real depth rather than skimming all eighteen. Paper 1 technique can be drilled in weeks; Paper 3 knowledge cannot, so paying for the scarce skill early costs less overall than paying for panic hours later.

How many hours of History tutoring does a DP2 student usually need?+

A weekly hour across DP1 and DP2 is the pattern that produces the most movement for the least money, because the marking between sessions is where improvement happens. Families starting in DP2 typically need more: one weekly hour plus a short investigation block of three to five sessions, and often a pre-session block focused on Paper 3 at Higher Level. A student arriving eight weeks before the session is buying the scarcest hours of the tutoring year at the worst rate. There is no fixed number, and any tutor who quotes one before seeing marked work is guessing.

Can a tutor help with the historical investigation without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, within a boundary worth stating clearly. A tutor may discuss the question the student has chosen, teach how source evaluation is assessed, explain what the three sections are marked on, point towards the kinds of source that exist, read one draft and give feedback in writing on what is weak and why. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite paragraphs into a final form, or hand over anything for submission. The investigation has to be the student's own work throughout. One provider in this search sells completed assessments; that is malpractice and the consequence falls on the candidate.

What does the 2,200-word limit on the historical investigation include?+

The limit covers the written content of all three sections: the identification and evaluation of sources, the investigation itself, and the reflection. Quotations inside the body count towards it. Citation footnotes and the bibliography do not form part of the word allowance, though footnotes used to carry argument rather than references are a problem examiners notice. Students most often go over by writing a narrative Section 2, then cut the reflection to fit, which loses marks in the easiest section of the three. Planning the word split before drafting is the fix: the investigation section should take the largest share.

My child writes long Paper 2 essays and still scores 8 out of 15. Why?+

Length is rarely the problem and is often a symptom. Essays in the 7-9 band usually have knowledge but no sustained argument answering the command term, and they stay inside one region when the topic requires two used properly rather than mentioned. An essay on the causes of a twentieth-century war that remains in Europe cannot reach the top bands however detailed it is. The repair is structural: a plan that states a judgement in the first paragraph, paragraphs that each advance that judgement with precise evidence, and 45 minutes of practice until the shape is automatic.

Does paying more for an examiner-branded History tutor change the mark?+

Not by itself. Examiner experience can be genuinely useful, because someone who has applied markbands at scale explains them more precisely than someone who has read them. What it does not provide is access to papers, grade boundaries or marking in progress, and any suggestion otherwise should end the conversation. Ask two questions before paying a premium: what evidence is there of current examiner status, and which Paper 1 and Paper 3 options has this person actually taught. The second question predicts the mark more reliably than the first, and the premium in this market is often attached to the first.

Which Paper 1 prescribed subject is easiest to pick up at short notice?+

The move to global war, for a practical reason rather than an intellectual one: it is the most widely taught prescribed subject in Dubai, so textbook coverage, past questions and source collections are abundant. Rights and protest is similar, with the added difficulty that its photographic sources tempt students into over-reading a visual. Conflict and intervention is the thinnest on resources, which makes a tutor's own source selection matter more. You do not choose this, though. The school does, and a tutor who has not taught your child's option will spend the first sessions learning it.

Can History sessions avoid Dubai school pick-up and bus times?+

Yes, and the scheduling is more flexible than in-home tutoring allows because nobody is driving. Apartment communities such as Dubai Marina and Business Bay usually settle on a 7pm to 9pm slot once a parent is home. Villa communities including Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills often prefer a weekend morning, which suits timed essay practice far better than a weekday evening after seven hours of school. Ramadan timings are adjusted so a session does not sit across Iftar, and the slot holds through school exam weeks rather than being surrendered to them.

Does a History tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE permit, and does it cost anything?+

A permit is required, and it is free. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, but no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you are quoted as unverified.

Are there cheaper times of year to buy History tutoring in Dubai?+

Effectively yes, though it is about availability rather than discounts. Weekly slots booked in the first term of DP1 are bought at standard rates with a real choice of tutors and hours. The same request eight weeks before the May session competes for the scarcest evening hours of the year, and intensive blocks are priced accordingly. The cost difference across two Diploma years is substantial, and the grade difference is larger, because content built over eighteen months cannot be compressed into six weeks at any price. Early hours are both cheaper and worth more.

How should a Dubai family budget History tutoring alongside school fees?+

Work in annual terms. One weekly specialist hour across a 36-week school year falls roughly between AED 7,200 and AED 16,200 depending on where in the market band the tutor sits, with an investigation clinic and a pre-session block as separate one-off lines. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package, so the fee side of the budget is stable for planning purposes. Most families who report good value bought one consistent weekly hour rather than a large block late on.

What happens if no Dubai-based DP History specialist is free at our hour?+

You are told before booking rather than after. Specialists for a specific Paper 3 regional option are not available in every evening hour in Gulf Standard Time, and pretending otherwise is how families end up with a tutor learning the option alongside the student. When no UAE-based match exists for the exact option and time, IB Gram offers the nearest alternative, which may be a History specialist teaching from India on the same Gulf Standard Time slot, with the rate stated beforehand. Lessons are online in either case, so the delivery does not change.

Is the historical investigation mark moderated, and can a tutor predict it?+

The school marks the investigation out of 25 and the IB moderates those marks, which can move a whole cohort up or down. A tutor can tell you what the published criteria reward and where a draft currently falls short of them, and that is useful. A tutor cannot predict a final mark, and anyone offering a number is selling confidence rather than information. The honest version is a reading of the draft against each section's criteria with the weaknesses named, which is what a student can act on in the time remaining before the school's internal deadline.

Start with the rate, the options and one free lesson

Send three things: your child's Paper 1 prescribed subject, the two world history topics for Paper 2, and the Paper 3 regional option if they are at Higher Level. Add where the historical investigation has reached and the hours that work in Gulf Standard Time. You get a proposed tutor, a rate in AED per 60 minutes with marking stated as included or not, and one free trial lesson with no card and no package attached. If the teaching does not convince you, nothing is owed and nothing is booked. If it does, the slot is fixed weekly and the marked work starts the following week.
