Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 Home Tutor in Dubai

Families looking for a Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 home tutor in Dubai usually have no way of judging whether the hours are working, because the subject is opaque to anyone who has not studied it. This page fixes that. It sets out what a parent with no accounting background can check on their own, the three error classes you can count without understanding a single ledger, and the twelve-week trail that shows movement or exposes its absence. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Every session worked from the student's own numbered workings
  • Three error classes counted per paper and reported to the parent
  • Marked practice returned before the next session, dated and kept
  • Free trial lesson first, with no card details collected

How to audit Accounting tutoring when you cannot read a ledger

Accounting is the subject most Dubai parents are least equipped to supervise. English can be read, maths can be checked against an answer, and a history essay can be judged on whether it makes sense. A page of control accounts can do none of those things for a parent who has never studied bookkeeping, and that is why Accounting tutoring runs longer and less accountably than tutoring in almost any other option subject.

The way out is to audit the process instead of the content. An auditor does not re-do a company's bookkeeping; they check that source documents exist, that figures trace from one place to another, and that exceptions are investigated. A parent can do the same thing with a tutor's work, and the three checks involved require no accounting knowledge at all. They are: does the student's own numbered working exist for each session, do the error counts trace from one paper to the next, and is a repeating error being treated as an exception or ignored.

That is the whole method and it works because Accounting produces unusually clean evidence. The subject is procedural and sequential, so every mistake belongs to one of three classes. A transposition error is a wrong digit in the right place. A direction error is a correct figure entered on the wrong side. A format error is correct figures presented in a structure the syllabus does not credit. You can count all three on a marked page without knowing what the page is about, which makes them the ideal measure for a parent to hold.

The second part of the audit is grade movement, and here the honest answer is that it is the least reliable thing available in the short term. A mock mark depends on which paper the Dubai school chose, how it was marked internally and where the school estimated the boundary. Cambridge sets real boundaries after a series against cohort performance, so a February mock boundary is a staff judgement, not a published figure. Error counts move earlier and lie less.

On the search term itself: IB Gram does not run in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. We target the phrase because it is what Dubai parents type, and then answer it properly. The market's in-home rates are published further down with their sources, alongside a format comparison that is specific to this subject rather than generic. Everything we deliver is one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

Nothing here is a promise about a result. No tutor can promise a grade in 0452 and any provider offering one is making a representation it cannot support. What this page commits to is narrower and testable: dated workings in your possession, three numbers you can count yourself, and a review point at which stopping is a real option rather than a difficult conversation.

At a glance

  • Ask for the student's numbered workings, not the tutor's worked examples
  • Count three error classes per paper: transposition, direction, format
  • Check that a repeating error is named as an exception and attacked
  • Treat Dubai mock grades as a rough position, not a measurement
  • Twelve weeks and four comparable papers is the smallest reliable trail
  • IB Gram delivers 0452 support online; UAE home visits are not offered
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What counts as evidence of progress changes with the stage a student is at. The notes below say what to look for at each point in the Cambridge commerce pathway in Dubai.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Accounting 0452 covers seven topic areas and is assessed entirely by written examination, with no coursework. Because nothing is internally assessed, the only evidence that predicts the outcome is marked written practice under timing. Everything else, including school effort grades and teacher comments, is a proxy for that.

In Dubai the subject sits in a commerce option block, often alongside Business Studies, and the critical evidence landmark is the Year 10 end-of-year assessment. Accounting is sequential, so a weak result there is not a snapshot: it is a gap that will still be present in Year 11 unless somebody goes back for it, and it is far cheaper to audit then than in February.

LOWER SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

No Accounting yet, but the evidence that predicts it is already in the house. A maths book with two arithmetic slips per page predicts two transposition errors per ledger. That is the single most useful pre-Year-10 indicator, and it is available for free in any exercise book from the last term.

For Dubai families arriving from an Indian-curriculum school, the predictable gap is vocabulary and layout convention rather than numeracy, and it shows up as format errors in the first Year 10 assessment. Two sessions usually close it. Keeping the last assessment from the previous school makes that diagnosis a ten-minute job rather than a term of guessing.

AS/A LEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

Accounting 9706 raises the demand on interpretation rather than on procedure. The evidence to look at before the transition is not the IGCSE grade but the proportion of it that came from written comment rather than from arithmetic, because that is the half that carries forward and the half AS examines harder.

Where a Dubai sixth form offers 9706 it usually sets a 0452 grade condition. A student whose marked scripts show clean ledgers and thin interpretation comments has exactly the profile that struggles in the first AS term, and the useful spend in Year 11 is on the comments rather than on more ledger drill.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

No direct Accounting equivalent exists in the Diploma. Financial statements appear inside Business Management, which also carries an internally assessed research project, so the evidence a Diploma student produces is drafts and supervisor feedback rather than timed scripts, under strict rules about authorship.

International Baccalaureate students are roughly 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment and three new IB schools join the 2026-27 intake. For an Accounting student the relevant point is that the Diploma route sets no requirement in the subject, so a 0452 grade matters for learning rather than for admission there.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Evidence takes a different form in each subject a Dubai commerce block pairs with Accounting. The notes below describe what a parent can actually verify in each, which is also how to tell a thorough tutor from a pleasant one.

Accounting (0452)

Cambridge IGCSE

The cleanest evidence of any option subject: errors fall into three countable classes and the counts can be compared across papers. Ask for the student's numbered workings and the count, and the subject stops being opaque to a parent without accounting training.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

The usual partner subject. Evidence here is behavioural rather than numerical: does the answer refer to the business in the printed case, and does it reach a judgement. Countable, but you are counting sentences rather than arithmetic slips.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

The evidence is diagram accuracy and the number of steps in a causal chain. A marked script annotated 'reasoning stops after one step' is useful feedback; one annotated 'needs more depth' is not, and the difference is how to judge a tutor's marking.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

If the Accounting workings show correct method with wrong arithmetic, the evidence is pointing at maths. That is worth noticing because it is a cheaper problem: a few 0580 sessions beat several Accounting sessions treating a symptom at Accounting rates.

First Language English (0500)

Cambridge IGCSE

Relevant to the interpretation half of 0452. Students whose English work shows thin development write thin comments on financial performance, and the two weaknesses appear in both sets of marked scripts at the same time.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Cambridge IGCSE

Many Dubai candidates sit ESL, and the Accounting evidence shows it as terminology slips: provision for reserve, drawings for expenses. These are visible on a marked page and are not a sign of weak understanding, which is worth knowing before buying content hours.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Cambridge IGCSE

Carried by stronger Dubai cohorts alongside the commerce options. The evidence to watch is seasonal: Accounting accuracy often dips in the term 0606 becomes demanding, and that is a time-budget problem rather than a comprehension problem.

Information and Communication Technology (0417)

Cambridge IGCSE

Common in Dubai commerce-leaning blocks. Progress evidence is completed practical task files with error counts, so it is countable in the same spirit as Accounting, and a student who manages one well often manages the other.

Geography (0460)

Cambridge IGCSE

Frequently the competing option at Year 9. Its evidence trail includes a skills paper, which produces early measurable signals in map and graph work, so the two subjects give feedback on different timescales across Years 10 and 11.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (0544)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken alongside the option block by many non-Arab students in Dubai, where Arabic is a mandatory subject in private schools regardless of curriculum. Worth tracking separately in the evidence file because the school timetable treats it as compulsory rather than optional.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three session patterns that leave a usable paper trail, with what each one puts in the file. All are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

Write, mark, recount

The standard pattern for an exam-year student. The student works a structured component alone between sessions, the tutor marks it with every error located and classified, and the session is spent on the classified errors. What goes in the file is a dated script plus three numbers, which is what makes week six comparable with week one.

  • One structured component written independently each week
  • Errors located and classified, not circled
  • Three counts recorded: transposition, direction, format
  • Scripts kept dated and in order by the family

Exception clinic

Short sessions attacking one repeating error that has survived general practice, which in 0452 is usually depreciation treatment, a control account sequence or the layout of a limited company's statements. The file entry is narrow and fast: instances of that specific error per paper, falling or flat.

  • Thirty to forty-five minutes, twice a week
  • One named error class per block
  • Measured as instances per paper, not as a grade
  • Block ends when the count reaches zero twice running

Audit-only review

A single session for families who already have a tutor and cannot tell whether it is working. The tutor reads the existing marked work, counts the three error classes across the papers available and writes a short note saying what the trail shows. It frequently ends with advice to continue with the current tutor.

  • One session, no ongoing commitment
  • Reads work produced by somebody else
  • Written note on what the existing trail shows
  • Often concludes that no change is needed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Three checks a Dubai parent can run without knowing any accounting

The first check is for source documents. Ask to see what your child wrote, not what the tutor demonstrated. A folder of beautiful worked examples in a tutor's handwriting is evidence that the tutor can do Accounting, which was never in question. A folder of the student's own numbered workings, dated, with somebody else's marks on them, is evidence about your child. If the first folder exists and the second does not, the sessions have been lectures.

The second check is tracing. Take two papers from different weeks and ask for the error counts. The numbers should be comparable, which means both papers were marked the same way and the counts cover the same three classes. If the tutor cannot produce them in a minute, they are not being kept, and a count reconstructed on request from memory is not a count. This is the single most informative question available to a parent in this subject.

The third check is exceptions. In any set of marked papers one or two errors will keep reappearing. The audit question is whether the tutor has named them and done something specific, or whether general practice is being used in the hope they wash out. Ask what the current target is. A good answer is a sentence: 'depreciation on disposals, down from four instances a paper to one'. A poor answer is 'we are working through past papers'.

The table lays these out with what good looks like in each case. None of it requires you to know what a control account is. It requires only that you ask for documents, numbers and a named target, which is exactly what you would ask for about any other service you were paying several thousand dirhams for across a year.

02

Why the student's own workings are the only usable evidence

  • Require numbered, ordered workings; unreadable workings cannot be diagnosed
  • Practice written alone and timed, then sent in for marking
  • Marking that locates the error, not marking that scores the answer
  • A second attempt at the same question type in the following session

Accounting is unusual in how completely it hides a student's understanding from a final answer. A statement can balance for the wrong reasons, and a wrong figure can carry forward so that every subsequent line is consistent and incorrect. This means the answer alone is close to uninformative. The workings are where the thinking is, and a marker who only looks at totals is marking the wrong thing.

It also means practice has to be numbered and legible, which sounds like a trivial administrative point and is not. A student who writes workings in a scatter across the page cannot be told where the error entered, so they learn that the answer was wrong and nothing about why. Insisting on numbered, ordered workings is the cheapest single intervention available in this subject, and it is one a parent can enforce without understanding a line of it.

This is also why practice has to be independent. A script produced with a tutor sitting alongside measures the pair. The characteristic 0452 failures are failures of unsupported execution: reversing a direction under time pressure, losing track of which side an adjustment belongs to, forgetting a closing entry. All of those disappear when somebody is watching, and reappear in the exam hall.

So the arrangement that generates evidence is simple and slightly inconvenient. The student writes alone, timed, and sends it in. The tutor marks it with the error located and classified, and returns it before the session. The session is spent on the classified errors and on a second attempt at the same question type. Everything in the file is then about the candidate rather than about the arrangement.

03

The three error classes, and how to count them yourself

Every mistake in a 0452 script belongs to one of three classes, and the classes are distinguishable by sight rather than by understanding. A transposition error is a digit problem: the right figure in the wrong form, 4,570 written as 4,750, or a total added incorrectly. A direction error is a side problem: the correct amount entered as a debit when it should have been a credit, or deducted when it should have been added. A format error is a presentation problem: the figures are right and the structure is not what the syllabus credits.

Each class has a different cause and a different fix, which is why counting them separately matters. Transposition errors are an accuracy and checking habit, and they respond to a mechanical routine rather than to teaching. Direction errors are conceptual: the student has not internalised what the entry represents, and more drill alone will not help. Format errors are pure syllabus knowledge, and they close in one or two sessions with somebody who knows the required presentation.

A parent can count all three on a marked page. Transposition errors appear as a corrected figure with the same digits. Direction errors appear as an amount moved from one column to another. Format errors appear as a comment about structure, or as a whole section rewritten in a different order. You do not need to know why the structure is wrong to notice that the marker has rewritten it.

The reason this is worth the ten minutes is that it converts an opaque subject into three numbers that move. A student at six transposition, three direction and two format errors in week one, sitting at two, zero and zero by week six, has improved in a way no mock grade would have shown that early. A student whose direction count has not moved after six weeks has a conceptual gap that more practice is not going to close, and that is a finding worth acting on.

04

The errors that carry forward, and why one mistake can look like ten

This is the single most misread thing in Accounting marking, and it causes Dubai families to buy hours they do not need. A statement is a chain, so a mistake in an early step propagates: the gross profit is wrong, therefore the profit for the year is wrong, therefore the capital figure is wrong, therefore the statement does not balance. A marker sees four wrong figures. The student made one mistake.

Cambridge markers generally handle this through own-figure credit, awarding marks for correct method applied to a figure the student brought forward, which is why a script can look catastrophic and score respectably. The practical consequence for a parent reading marked work is to resist counting wrong numbers. Count located errors instead, which is what a properly marked script shows and why the marking has to locate rather than score.

The diagnostic consequence is more important. If a tutor responds to a propagated error by re-teaching the whole topic, several hours are being spent on material the student knows. The correct response is to find the upstream step and fix only that, which is usually a single conceptual point and often a direction error. This is the difference between a tutor who marks and a tutor who marks diagnostically, and it is visible in the plan for the next session.

The audit question that catches this is short: of the errors in this paper, how many were separate mistakes? A tutor who has marked the script properly will answer with a small number and name the upstream step. A tutor who has not will describe the topic. Ask it once per block and you will learn more about the tutoring than a term of progress conversations would tell you.

05

A twelve-week 0452 trail for a Dubai Year 11

The block below is written out because 'we will track progress' is a phrase every tutoring provider uses and almost nobody specifies. It assumes a student with direction errors in the verification and procedures areas and weak interpretation comments, which is the commonest Year 11 profile in this subject. It is an illustration rather than a prescription, and the point of publishing it is so you can ask any provider for something comparable.

Note the structure of the measurement. The same component is sat in week one and week eleven so that the comparison is like for like. The error counts are reported every week, in the same three classes, so the trend does not depend on a grade estimate. And weeks four and eight are explicitly decision points rather than milestones, meaning stopping or changing the target is on the table at both.

Note also how little content teaching appears. Three of the twelve weeks involve re-teaching, and they are the weeks where the diagnosis said direction errors indicated a conceptual gap. The remaining weeks are practice, marking and conversation about the marking, because in a procedural subject that is what moves marks. A plan weighted towards demonstration should prompt a question about why.

Twelve weeks also happens to fit the gap between a Dubai school's February mock and a June series with room to spare, which is when most families in this subject actually start. Starting at the Year 10 end-of-year assessment instead gives the same twelve weeks at lower pressure and usually at lower total cost, because the gaps are smaller and fewer of them have compounded.

06

What a Dubai mock mark and a school report can tell you

A mock grade is the evidence Dubai parents have most of and it carries less information than it appears to. Each centre selects or writes its own mock, marks it internally, and estimates where the boundary sits. Cambridge sets real boundaries after each series against how the cohort performed, so a February boundary is a professional judgement by the school rather than a published figure. Two Dubai students with the same understanding can receive a 5 and a 7.

The reporting scale compounds it. Some Dubai centres report IGCSE on the 9 to 1 scale and others on A* to G, depending on the syllabus version entered, while sixth-form conditions are quoted on one or the other. A parent reading 'grade 6 required' against a mock reported as a B is comparing two different systems, and this is one of the most common misreadings we see in first messages from families.

What a mock is genuinely good for is the script underneath it. Ask the school for the marked paper and the mark breakdown by question rather than the grade. That document is free, it is the most useful thing a tutor can see before a first session, and for Accounting it is particularly informative because the error classes are visible on it immediately.

School reports are a weaker signal still, because effort grades and attainment grades get conflated and because a comment written for thirty students is necessarily general. The exception is a specific remark naming a topic area. 'Struggles with control accounts' is a diagnosis and worth acting on; 'needs to apply himself more consistently' is a classroom-management note and should not be bought hours against.

07

Home tutoring in Dubai for Accounting: the market, and what we actually do

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The market's rates belong on the page anyway, because a family searching for a home tutor is pricing a real option. In-home one-to-one in Dubai is quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour with travel absorbed, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table showing 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages of around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits are common.

Online one-to-one is quoted lower: roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor and AED 200 to 450 for an exam-board specialist, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and TutorChase quoting AED 270. Those are the providers' own published figures from 2026 and not an IB Gram price list; our route starts with a free trial lesson and a plan agreed with the family.

For the audit this page is about, the format difference that matters is not the rate. It is whether the arrangement produces a file. In-home sessions default to one long weekly visit, because travel makes short visits uneconomic, and long visits tend to be spent working through problems together. Together is the enemy of evidence: the script measures the pair. The format that generates a usable trail is the one where the student writes alone and somebody marks it, and that is easier to sustain over video.

The honest counter-argument stands. A Year 10 student who will not sit down without an adult present is better served by an adult in the room, and the in-home market rate may be buying supervision rather than subject depth. Supervision is a legitimate purchase. It is simply a different one, and a family should know which of the two they are paying for.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the option block

Any honest account of a Dubai student's week has to include the mandatory subjects, because they occupy timetable space that families planning tutoring often forget. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisational detail is specific. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies.

Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson should run at least twenty-five minutes. For a family planning Accounting tutoring the relevant arithmetic is simple: these subjects are already in the week, so the free evening hours are fewer than a timetable of eight IGCSE options suggests.

One constraint worth knowing for anyone considering tutoring in these subjects too. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, and schools are required to ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach them. That is a real limit on how support in those subjects can be described, and it is a reason to treat them separately from an option subject like 0452 rather than bundling everything into one plan.

09

How sessions run, the limits, and what we will not claim

A family sends a marked 0452 paper or the topic areas the school has flagged. The trial lesson is free, collects no card details, and is spent classifying the errors on that paper. It ends with a written note: the three baseline counts, the named upstream steps, a target, and an estimate of how many sessions it should take. If the estimate is four sessions, the note says four.

Sessions then run one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, with workings on a shared screen. Practice is set, written alone and timed, marked with every error located and classified, and returned before the next session. The counts go to the parent in plain language, and the scripts belong to the family in date order. That is the file, and it is the thing that makes the tutoring auditable by somebody who has never studied the subject.

On availability, the honest version. Accounting has a smaller cohort in Dubai than maths or the sciences, and the specialists who can mark financial statements and incomplete records properly are not always free at the hours families want. When nobody suitable is available we say so, name the limitation on the nearest alternative, and give the likely wait. We would rather lose a booking than put a generalist in front of a Year 11 eight weeks out.

Two boundaries do not move. A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has produced, and nobody here will produce assessed material for a student under any board. And we reference Cambridge material rather than distributing it, working from the copies the school has issued. IB Gram holds no accreditation from KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, operates no UAE premises, and makes no promise about a grade.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

These notes are about the practical business of generating evidence in a Dubai household: when a student can realistically sit an uninterrupted paper, and what each community's rhythm does to that.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Apartments with shared study space, so the weekly structured paper usually lands at the weekend. Keeping the dated workings in one folder matters more here than in a villa, because paper migrates in a flat and an undated script is worth very little.

Al Barsha and The Greens

Short school runs make a weekday evening slot realistic, which allows the useful split: paper written midweek, marking reviewed at the weekend. The gap between writing and seeing the marking is what stops a student recalling their answer instead of rereading it.

Dubai Hills Estate

Late returns from co-curricular commitments push weekday sessions past 7pm, and accuracy work after a long day produces error counts that overstate the problem. Weekend papers give a cleaner baseline for the file.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Local supply of commerce specialists is thinner than in the Jumeirah corridor, which historically meant the choice of tutor was made on proximity. The evidence standard should not vary with distance, and over video it does not have to.

Al Qusais and Muhaisnah

Dense in schools with well-subscribed commerce options, so group tuition is common. Worth knowing for the audit: group sessions rarely produce individually marked workings, so the evidence file stays empty even when attendance is perfect.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

Weekend mornings are the most productive window, and a full structured paper plus live marking needs about two uninterrupted hours. Families here tend to produce the most consistent evidence trails for exactly that reason.

Heavy congestion between 4pm and 6pm makes travel-based arrangements unreliable in term time, and an inconsistent slot produces an inconsistent file. A fixed online slot that never slips is what makes week-on-week comparison possible at all.

Dubai centres where commerce options are well subscribed

Well-known Dubai schools running Cambridge IGCSE at Key Stage 4 with commerce subjects in the option block. Mock papers and internal boundary estimates differ between centres, which is the main reason a mock grade from one school cannot be compared with a mock grade from another.

Dubai centres reporting on different IGCSE grade scales

Some Dubai centres report IGCSE results on the 9 to 1 scale and others on A* to G, depending on the syllabus version entered. Any evidence file should record which scale a mock grade is on, because sixth-form entry conditions are quoted on one or the other and families routinely compare the wrong pair.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send one marked paper

A photograph of a marked 0452 attempt with the school's annotations visible is the fastest start available, and it is free. If there is no marked paper, the list of topic areas the school has raised will do. Naming the areas rather than the subject is what turns a first reply into a plan instead of a questionnaire.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, spent classifying errors

One session at no cost and with no card details collected, worked through your child's own attempt. It produces the three baseline counts, the upstream steps behind any propagated errors, a named target and a session estimate. The note is yours whether or not you book anything after it.

  3. 03

Set the target and the metric together

The target names an error class and an area, such as direction errors in the verification topic. The metric is instances per paper. Both go in writing before the block starts, because a target agreed afterwards is always the one that happens to have been met.

  4. 04

Student writes alone, tutor marks and locates

Practice is written independently and timed, then sent in. Marking locates each error and classifies it rather than scoring the answer, and separates genuine mistakes from figures that were carried forward. The session works the located errors and repeats one question of the same type.

  5. 05

Decide at four sessions and again at eight

Two fixed decision points with stopping as a real option at both. If the target count is not falling, the diagnosis or the match is wrong and more hours will not fix either. The counts, the scripts and the written note stay with the family in all cases, including when the decision is to stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The subject stops being opaque

Three error classes a parent can count on a marked page without knowing what a ledger is. That is the whole proposition of this page, and it is checkable against any tutor, including ours. Accounting is the one option subject where this kind of audit is genuinely easy.

Marking locates, it does not score

A marked script shows where each error entered and whether later wrong figures were separate mistakes or one mistake carried forward. That distinction decides whether the next three hours re-teach a topic the student knows or fix the single step that actually failed.

The file belongs to you

Dated scripts in date order, three counts per paper, a named target and a written note. Held by the family, readable by your child's subject teacher, and not dependent on our summary. Tutoring that cannot be inspected from outside is tutoring nobody can evaluate.

Independent practice, by design

Work written alone and timed, because the characteristic failures in this subject are failures of unsupported execution. They vanish when an adult is sitting alongside and reappear in the exam hall, which is the main reason a long weekly supervised session can feel productive and change very little.

Two fixed decision points

Four sessions and eight sessions, with stopping on the table at both. The most expensive thing in Dubai tutoring is not an hourly rate; it is a block that renews quietly for three terms because nobody set a point at which the evidence had to justify continuing.

Sourced figures, no borrowed credibility

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider that published it in 2026, and every regulatory statement names its source. We publish no invented rating or statistic, claim no regulator approval, and make no promise about a grade in any subject or series.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

I know nothing about accounting. How can I tell whether 0452 tutoring is working?+

Run three checks that need no accounting knowledge. Ask to see your child's own dated, numbered workings rather than the tutor's worked examples. Ask for error counts on two papers from different weeks and check they are comparable. And ask what the current named target is, expecting an answer like 'direction errors in control accounts, four a paper down to one'. If the workings do not exist, the counts are not kept and the target is 'working through past papers', there is nothing yet to evaluate.

What are the three error classes in Accounting that I should be counting?+

Transposition, direction and format. A transposition error is a digit problem, such as 4,570 written as 4,750 or a total added wrongly. A direction error is a side problem, where the correct amount is entered as a debit instead of a credit. A format error is correct figures presented in a structure the syllabus does not credit. You can see all three on a marked page: corrected digits, amounts moved between columns, and sections the marker has rewritten in a different order.

Why does one mistake in my child's statement make ten figures wrong?+

Because a statement is a chain. An early error carries forward, so the gross profit, the profit for the year and the capital figure are all wrong from one mistake, and the statement will not balance. Cambridge markers generally award own-figure credit for correct method applied to a figure brought forward, which is why a script can look dreadful and score respectably. The practical point is to count located errors rather than wrong numbers, and to ask a tutor how many separate mistakes a paper actually contained.

Should my child do 0452 practice with the tutor or on their own?+

Alone, timed, then sent in for marking. The characteristic failures in Accounting are failures of unsupported execution: reversing a direction under pressure, losing track of which side an adjustment belongs to, omitting a closing entry. Those disappear when somebody is sitting alongside and reappear in the exam hall. A script produced together measures the pair rather than the candidate, which is why a long supervised session can feel productive and leave the evidence file empty.

How long before marked Accounting work shows a real trend?+

About four papers, which in practice means four to six weeks for a weekly block and twelve weeks for a full before-and-after comparison. One improved paper proves nothing: it may reflect an easier question set or a better night's sleep. Four independently written papers of the same component, marked the same way, with three error counts each, is the smallest set that supports a conclusion. That is also why the first and last papers in a block should be the same component rather than two different ones.

Will IB Gram send an Accounting tutor to our villa or apartment in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not offer in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we run only in India. Dubai families are taught one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, with workings on a shared screen. For the evidence this page is about, the format matters: online arrangements make it easier to sustain the pattern of writing alone and having the script marked, which is where the usable record comes from.

What should a Dubai tutor's written feedback on an Accounting paper contain?+

Four things. Where each error entered, which class it belongs to, whether later wrong figures were separate mistakes or one error carried forward, and what the next session will do about the most frequent one. A tick-and-total marking job gives none of that. The difference is not thoroughness for its own sake: a tutor who cannot separate one propagated error from ten separate ones will spend hours re-teaching a topic your child already knows.

Does a direction error mean my child needs more practice?+

Usually the opposite. A direction error means the entry has been memorised rather than understood, so the student does not know which way it should go when the question is phrased unfamiliarly. More drill reinforces the memorisation. The fix is conceptual: a short re-teach of what the entry actually represents, after which the error class tends to collapse quickly. If a direction count has not moved after six weeks of practice, that is the finding, and it should change the plan.

Can I ask a tutor to review work my child's existing tutor has marked?+

Yes, and for Accounting it is a reasonable single purchase. One session reading the existing marked papers, counting the three error classes across them and writing a note on what the trail shows is usually enough to tell you whether the current arrangement is doing its job. It frequently concludes that no change is needed, which is a useful outcome for a family who simply had no way of judging an opaque subject.

How reliable is a mock grade from a Dubai school in Accounting?+

As a rough position only. Each centre selects or writes its own mock, marks it internally and estimates its own boundary, while Cambridge sets real boundaries after a series against cohort performance. Two Dubai students with the same understanding can receive different grades. Ask instead for the marked script and the breakdown by question, which is free and is the single most useful document a tutor can see, because the error classes are visible on it at a glance.

My child's report says he must apply himself more. Is that worth buying tutoring against?+

Not on its own. A comment written for a class of thirty is necessarily general, and effort remarks get conflated with attainment. The exception is a report that names a topic area: 'struggles with control accounts' is a diagnosis you can act on and cost. 'Needs to apply himself consistently' is a classroom-management note. Before committing to hours, ask the subject teacher which topic areas are weak, because that question converts a report into something a tutor can work from.

Do the UAE mandatory subjects affect how much tutoring time we actually have?+

Yes, and families regularly underestimate it. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on forty-minute lesson units. Those lessons are already in the week, so the number of free evening hours available for an option subject like Accounting is smaller than an eight-subject timetable implies.

What does an in-home Accounting tutor cost in Dubai compared with online?+

In-home one-to-one is quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour with travel absorbed, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages of roughly AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits are common. Online, a qualified subject tutor is quoted at AED 150 to 300 and a specialist at AED 200 to 450. These are the providers' published 2026 figures, not an IB Gram price list.

Can a tutor check my child's school assignment in Accounting?+

A tutor can teach the topic it rests on, discuss how to approach it and give feedback on what your child has written. A tutor will not produce the piece or rework it into something your child did not write, and that limit applies under every board. Cambridge IGCSE Accounting has no coursework component, so school-set tasks here are internal practice rather than assessed material, but we apply the same boundary to them and say so to the student at the outset.

When should a Dubai family start auditing the tutoring rather than trusting it?+

At the fourth session. By then there should be two or three independently written papers, three error counts each, and a named target. That is the earliest point at which the three checks produce a real answer, and it is early enough that stopping costs very little. Leaving the first audit until the February mock means a term has already been bought on faith, and in a sequential subject like Accounting a term of unaddressed gaps compounds rather than waits.

Ask for the workings, the counts and the target

Accounting is the subject Dubai parents feel least able to supervise and, oddly, the one that is easiest to audit. You do not need to understand a ledger to ask for your child's own dated workings, three error counts per paper and a named target, and those three things are enough to tell whether hours are being spent well. Send a recent marked 0452 attempt and the free trial lesson will produce the baseline counts and the first target at no cost, with no card details collected. The note is yours to use, including if you decide the tutor you already have is doing the job.
