IB and IGCSE tutors for Al Safa families

Parents comparing IB and IGCSE tutors in Al Safa run into the same wall: almost nobody publishes a price. This page does the opposite. It sets out the Dubai market bands in dirhams with the source named against each one, shows what a full academic year costs across six different provider models, lists the extras that quietly change the hourly figure, and explains how one-to-one online lessons are scheduled around an Al Safa school run.

IB & IGCSE in Al Safa

Why nobody in this market will tell you the price

Of the competing pages ranking for tutoring searches in Dubai, three publish no price at all. One of them runs a frequently asked question titled how much does tutoring cost and then declines to answer it. Two publish prices in US dollars, which is not the currency an Al Safa family pays in. The one competitor with a published hourly rate contradicts it in its own structured data. That is the state of pricing transparency in this market, and it is why a parent can collect four quotes and still have no idea what a fair number looks like.

The spread is enormous and it is real. Published online rates in Dubai start around AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end and run to AED 650 for a premium named tutor. That is a twentyfold range for something all five providers describe as one-to-one tutoring. Without knowing what each band buys, a parent cannot distinguish a reasonable quote from an opportunistic one, and the usual outcome is paying mid-market money for budget-tier teaching.

This page is organised around money rather than around pedagogy. It models what a full academic year costs for a Year 11 IGCSE student and for a Year 12 Diploma student, across six provider models. It names the extras that change the real hourly figure once you account for minimum session lengths, cancellation terms, resource fees and travel. It sets out how many hours a subject genuinely needs, because the hourly rate is the smaller half of the decision.

Al Safa is a useful place to do this honestly. It sits across Sheikh Zayed Road from Al Wasl, holds several of the coast cluster's British-curriculum secondaries inside its own boundaries, and its households span villa plots on the Jumeirah side and apartment stock towards City Walk. The budgets differ enormously, and the same hourly rate means very different things to two families two streets apart.

On format, there is nothing hidden. IB Gram arranges tuition as one-to-one lessons over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own work on screen. Tutors are not dispatched to UAE addresses; in-home visiting exists only in the India service. Part of the reason is cost: published in-home rates in Dubai carry travel time inside the hourly figure, and a family pays for a commute as well as for teaching.

Every figure below names its source and the month it was read. Where a number could not be verified against a primary source, it has been left out rather than estimated, including the fine amounts circulating for unlicensed tutoring, which the ministry has not published. That rule costs this page some confident-sounding sentences and gains it the only thing a parent comparing quotes actually needs, which is a figure they can check themselves against the page that printed it. If a band below looks wrong against a quote you have been given, the source is named and you can go and read it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Price varies by programme more than most parents expect, and it varies for structural reasons rather than arbitrary ones. The notes below explain what drives the cost of tutoring at each stage, which is the part a rate card never shows.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external examination, inquiry-led units, and reporting against learner attributes rather than marks. Tutoring at this stage is the cheapest tier in the market because it needs a strong generalist rather than a subject specialist, and sessions are usually thirty to forty-five minutes. The spend is low; the risk is buying weekly hours for something a reading routine at home would fix.

In Al Safa the commonest primary purchase is English literacy or number fluency support for a child who has moved curriculum mid-primary, which is frequent in this part of Dubai. Six to eight focused sessions is a normal block. A term-long weekly commitment at this stage is rarely the efficient use of a budget.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, converted to a 1-7 grade. Prices sit in the qualified-subject-tutor band because the criteria are specific enough that a generalist underperforms. The Personal Project in Year 11 is the single most expensive item families buy at this stage, and it is the one where the boundary on what a tutor may do matters most.

Al Safa families with a child at an IB continuum school often buy MYP support in Years 9 and 10 to protect the Diploma entry, which is a sensible use of money. Buying it in Year 11 as emergency cover for the Personal Project is the expensive version of the same decision.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. This is where the market's specialist band applies: Bestimate puts specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above, and Higher Level work in scarce subject combinations sits at the top of that. A two-year Diploma plan is the largest single tutoring commitment a Dubai household makes.

The Diploma's cost curve is not flat. It peaks in the spring of Year 12 when Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay draft and the TOK exhibition cluster, and again in the final term of Year 13. Al Safa families who budget evenly across two years usually under-fund the first peak and over-fund the quiet months.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Eight to ten subjects examined at the end of Year 11. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 an hour against AED 200 for IB, and that gap is typical across the market. The cost driver is subject count: a family supporting three IGCSE subjects at two sessions a week each is buying six hours weekly, which is a larger bill than most Diploma plans.

The practical cost-control move for an Al Safa IGCSE household is to triage by what will be continued post-16 and by which papers are closest to a grade boundary. Supporting every weak subject equally is how a budget disappears without a grade moving.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Al Safa families most often pay for, with a note on what drives the price and the hours in each. Scarcity, not difficulty, is what moves a rate: the fewer tutors who have taught a specification to examination, the higher the band.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

The most expensive single combination in the Dubai market, because the pool who have taught it to examination is small. Non-calculator Paper 1 technique and proof work need drilling rather than explaining, which means homework between sessions does most of the work and the session count can be lower than families fear.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Mid-band pricing and frequently under-bought, because parents assume it is the lighter course. The statistics content is where hours go: interpreting regression and significance correctly is a learned habit, and students lose marks describing output rather than naming variables and levels.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Specialist band. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the HL difficulty, and the Internal Assessment adds a separate block of hours around the school's internal deadline. Costing a Chemistry year without budgeting for the IA window is the commonest planning error here.

Physics

HL and SL

Specialist band, and the hardest slot to fill at a Gulf-evening hour. Extended-response technique is the highest-yield work: students describe where the command term asked them to explain, and lose marks they already knew the physics for.

Biology

HL and SL

Mid to specialist band. Content density means hours are spent on retrieval practice rather than explanation, which makes short frequent sessions better value than long ones. Command-term discipline separates a 5 from a 7 more reliably than extra content coverage does.

Economics

HL and SL

Mid-band for teaching, specialist band for the three Internal Assessment commentaries. Each commentary is capped at 800 words and built on a news article, and the marks sit in the link between theory, diagram and article rather than in the theory itself.

English Language and Literature

HL and SL

Often the best value per hour, because the Individual Oral and Paper 1 respond quickly to structured coaching. Rehearsed, timed practice on unseen extracts moves grades faster than reading more texts, and that is a short block rather than a term-long commitment.

IGCSE Mathematics Extended

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1

The highest-volume purchase in Dubai and the most competitively priced. Surds, algebraic fractions, graph transformations and bounds questions appear in every series and are the fastest marks to recover, which makes a targeted six-week block viable.

IGCSE Separate Sciences

Cambridge 0625, 0620, 0610

Three subjects rather than one, so three times the hours if bought uncritically. The practical-skills paper is where marks are cheapest to recover, because candidates are asked to criticise a method and instead describe it, which is a technique fix rather than a content one.

IGCSE English First Language and ESL

Cambridge 0500, 0510 and 0511

Low to mid band. Register and form control carry more marks than vocabulary range, and the penalty for writing an article in letter form applies regardless of language quality. A handful of marked pieces usually achieves more than a term of weekly conversation.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, three price points, three different things being bought. All are delivered one-to-one over live video except where stated, and the cheapest is not the best value in every case.

Weekly one-to-one across a term

The standard purchase and the easiest to over-buy. It is the right format when a subject needs continuous cover through a syllabus, and the wrong one when the problem is a short list of specific topics. Priced at the qualified-tutor or specialist band depending on level, it is the most predictable line in an education budget.

  • Best value when the gap is broad rather than specific
  • Marked homework between sessions does half the work
  • Review the plan at each assessment point, not each term

A targeted block before a specific assessment

Six to ten sessions aimed at a named set of topics or a single paper, then stop. For IGCSE Extended Mathematics this is often the highest-return purchase available, because the recurring question types are finite and drillable. It costs a fraction of a term and frequently achieves more.

  • Built from a marked script rather than a syllabus
  • Finite, so the budget is known before it starts
  • Repeatable the following term if it worked

Coursework review scheduled to internal deadlines

Hours bought around the school's own Internal Assessment and Extended Essay dates rather than weekly. The tutor reads the student's own draft, applies the criteria as questions, and sends it back for the student to revise. No part of the submission is written, rewritten or edited to completion by the tutor.

  • Priced as a block against the school's deadline calendar
  • Feedback mapped to criterion letters and mark bands
  • The authorship boundary stated to the student in session one

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Safa

01

What a full year of tutoring actually costs an Al Safa household

An hourly rate is almost useless on its own. What a family needs is the annual figure, because that is what competes with the school fee, the activity bill and everything else. The table below models a year at three different intensities, using the published Dubai bands rather than invented numbers, and sets them next to the other costs an education budget already carries.

The modelling assumes a thirty-six week academic year with sessions paused through the long summer break and the examination period itself, which is how most Dubai families actually run it. One session a week at the qualified-tutor band is the commonest pattern for a single IGCSE subject. Two sessions a week at the specialist band is typical for a Diploma Higher Level subject in an examination year. The Internal Assessment block is a separate, finite purchase.

The figures that surprise parents are usually the multi-subject ones. Supporting three IGCSE subjects at one session each is three times the hourly cost, and it arrives in the same month. That is the arithmetic behind the advice to triage: pick the subjects where a grade is genuinely close to a boundary and where the subject will be continued, and leave the others to the school.

One piece of context is unusually helpful this year. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For a household budgeting education spending, a flat fee bill makes the tutoring line easier to plan than it has been in several years.

Six provider models, and what each one is actually selling

Every competitor page in this market compares itself favourably against an unnamed set of other platforms. That comparison is worthless. What a parent needs is a neutral description of the models available in Dubai, what each charges, and what each does and does not include, so they can work out which one matches their problem.

There are six. A specialist agency charges a premium and takes responsibility for matching and replacement. An international marketplace charges less and leaves the matching to you. A freelance independent tutor is the cheapest per hour and carries the most variability in quality and continuity. A tuition centre group class is cheaper still per student but is not one-to-one. A school-run support session is usually free and is constrained to that school's staff and timetable. And a platform like IB Gram arranges one-to-one online teaching matched to a named syllabus.

The table compares them on the dimensions that matter when something goes wrong, not when everything goes right. Whether the rate is published. Whether in-home is even on offer. Whether the tutor's MoHRE permit has been checked. What happens if the match is poor after two sessions. Whether a trial exists and on what condition. Every rate in it is attributed to whoever published it.

Two columns deserve attention. The permit column matters because individuals offering private tutoring in the UAE need a MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and a parent is entitled to ask to see it. The replacement column matters because a mismatched tutor is the commonest way money is wasted in this market, and a model with no replacement route turns a bad match into a sunk cost.

The extras that quietly change the real hourly figure

  • Minimum session length, and whether two short hours are allowed instead
  • Cancellation terms, and whether a missed session moves or disappears
  • Registration, resource or materials fees charged on top
  • Whether the rate changes in the examination term
  • Whether the quoted figure is the all-in figure, in writing

A quoted rate is the start of the arithmetic, not the end of it. Several common terms move the real cost per hour of teaching substantially, and none of them are dishonest if they are stated. The problem is that they usually appear after the first session rather than before it.

Minimum session length is the biggest. A two-hour minimum is standard for in-home work in Dubai, partly because a tutor cannot justify a crossing for sixty minutes. For a fifteen-year-old, two hours in one sitting is frequently less productive than two separate hours in the same week, so the family pays for two hours and receives rather less than two hours of useful teaching.

Then there is cancellation. A twenty-four hour policy is normal and reasonable. A policy that charges in full for a session cancelled because a child is ill, in a market where school absence is common, changes the annual figure by several sessions. Ask what the policy is and whether the session can be moved rather than lost. Resource fees, registration fees and examination-season surcharges are all worth asking about explicitly, as is whether the rate rises in the final term, which it does with several providers.

The last one is VAT. Whether tuition is taxed is not something this page will assert without a Federal Tax Authority citation, and nor should any other page. What a parent can and should establish is simply whether the number they have been quoted is the number that will be charged. Ask for the all-in figure per month, in writing, before the first paid session.

04

How many hours a subject actually needs

Hours needed is a bigger lever on total cost than the hourly rate, and it is the question providers are least willing to answer, because the honest answer is usually fewer hours than they would like to sell. It depends on three things: whether the gap is content or technique, how far the next assessment is, and how much work the student does between sessions.

A technique gap is cheap. If a student knows the material and loses marks on command terms, working-out discipline or timing, six to ten sessions with marked past papers in between will usually shift the pattern. A content gap is more expensive because the teaching has to happen before the drilling can. A two-term gap in algebraic fluency is not a six-session purchase, and anyone selling it as one is taking the money and hoping.

The multiplier nobody prices in is homework. A student who does the work set between sessions roughly doubles the value of each hour paid for, because the session is then spent on diagnosis and correction rather than on first exposure. A student who does none converts every session into a lecture, and lectures are the most expensive way to learn anything. That is worth saying to the student, not only to the parent paying.

The table sets out indicative blocks for the commonest Al Safa purchases. They are starting points for a conversation with a tutor after a diagnostic session, not quotations. A diagnostic that concludes fewer hours are needed than you expected is the most valuable thing a first session can produce.

Online, in-home or group: what each format buys in Al Safa

This choice is often framed as a quality question and is really a cost and access question. In-home tutoring in Al Safa is genuinely available and widely used; villa households here have the space for it and the published rate band is AED 180 to 500 an hour. What that rate buys is a tutor physically present and a supervision problem solved. What it does not buy is a wide choice of specialist, because the pool is whoever can reach this part of Jumeirah at the hour you need.

Group classes at a tuition centre are cheaper per student and are a different product. Four students sharing an hour means each gets a quarter of the tutor's attention, which works for revising known material and works badly for diagnosing why one particular student keeps losing method marks. For IGCSE revision in a strong subject it can be good value. For a Diploma Higher Level weakness it rarely is.

Online one-to-one sits between them on price and above both on tutor choice. IB Gram delivers lessons in this format: live video, shared whiteboard, the student's own script on screen, one student and one tutor. Tutors are not sent to addresses in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, and home visiting is confined to the India service. The gain is that a specialist in a scarce combination becomes reachable regardless of where they sit at five in the afternoon.

The table makes the comparison on the dimensions that actually differ. Note the travel column: in Al Safa a tutor crossing from the inland side is pricing the crossing into the hour whether or not it is itemised, and that is a real part of why the in-home band sits where it does.

Why cheap coursework help is the most expensive thing in this market

There is a tier of provider in this space selling finished work. One operator advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price in dirhams. Measured by the hour it looks like a bargain against a specialist's rate. It is the most expensive purchase available in Dubai tutoring, because the price of being caught is the Diploma.

The IB's authenticity requirement sits on the student. A coordinator who reads a draft that does not sound like the person who wrote the rest of the course is required to act, and a malpractice finding can remove the award. The provider who sold the work faces nothing. The asymmetry is the entire point, and it is why this needs saying plainly on a page about cost.

Legitimate coursework support is substantial and worth paying for. A tutor can teach the content the investigation rests on, explain what each criterion asks for in the IB's own wording, read the student's own draft and put the criteria to them as questions, and teach referencing, uncertainty handling and a research question narrow enough to answer in the word limit. That work genuinely moves marks and leaves the authorship where it belongs.

The test to apply to any provider is one question: what will you do with my child's draft, and what will you refuse to do? A tutor who answers that clearly is a teacher. A provider who is vague about it, or who offers to tidy it up, is selling the student a risk nobody has quoted them for.

07

Checking a tutor is permitted to teach, which costs nothing

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid two years
  • Ask to see it before the first paid session
  • No fine schedule is published, so distrust any page quoting one
  • KHDA oversees schools; it does not license individual tutors

Verification is free and almost nobody does it. Private tutoring by individuals in the UAE is regulated through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and, on the government's own account, is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen.

MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because the permit is free and quick, a tutor who does not hold one has no cost-based excuse. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are, in the government's wording, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, so any page quoting a specific figure is quoting something unverified.

Two further points are worth knowing before paying anyone. Dubai's schools are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, but KHDA does not license individual tutors; the permit it issues to training institutes with premises is a different instrument, and no provider should imply otherwise about itself. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics framework has been reported as barring school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school.

So the free check is: ask to see the MoHRE permit, and ask whether the tutor teaches at your child's own school. Both questions take a minute and both are things a straightforward provider answers without hesitation.

08

Spending an Al Safa tutoring budget in the right order

  • Start with the free question to the subject teacher
  • Buy a diagnostic, not a term, as the first paid item
  • Fix technique before content where the diagnosis allows
  • Protect post-16 subjects ahead of ones being dropped
  • Hold a reserve block for the spring coursework crunch

If the budget is finite, and for most households it is, the order of spending matters more than the total. The sequence below is the one that tends to produce the most movement per dirham, and it starts with something free.

First, ask the subject teacher whether the lost marks on the last assessment were on content never covered or on questions the child could have answered. That single question is free and it determines everything that follows. Second, buy a diagnostic session rather than a term. A diagnostic produces a named topic list and an honest statement of how many hours are needed, which is the information the rest of the budget depends on.

Third, spend on technique before content where the diagnostic allows it, because technique is the cheaper fix and it compounds across subjects. A student who learns to read command terms properly carries that into every paper they sit. Fourth, protect the subjects that will be continued post-16 ahead of the ones that will not. A grade in a subject being dropped in August is worth less than a grade in the subject that will carry a university application.

Last, keep a reserve for the coursework window. Diploma families consistently under-budget the spring of Year 12, when Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay draft and the TOK exhibition arrive together. A block held back for that month is better value than the same money spread thinly across the quiet autumn.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Safa

Budgets and logistics differ sharply between the communities around Al Safa, and both change what format makes financial sense. These notes are about cost and scheduling rather than scenery.

Al Safa 1 and 2

Villa plots with study space, so a desk and a wired connection are usually available. In-home tutoring is easy to arrange here, which is also why local in-home quotes tend to sit at the upper end of the published AED 180 to 500 band.

Al Wasl

Immediately north across the main road, sharing the same school run. Families here frequently compare quotes with Al Safa neighbours, which is the single most useful price check available and costs nothing.

Jumeirah 3

Longer secondary school runs push a workable first slot later, and a later slot narrows the tutor pool for in-home work, which pushes the rate up. Online removes that constraint entirely at no price premium.

Umm Suqeim

Weekend morning sessions are common here because weekday evenings compete with activity schedules. Weekend rates are not usually higher, but minimum session lengths often are, so check the terms.

City Walk

Apartment living with no dedicated study room. The practical cost here is equipment rather than hours: a stylus tablet and decent headphones make an online session materially more productive for Maths and Science.

Al Manara

Inland towards Al Khail Road. Drive times in from a tutor's side of the city are the hidden component of any in-home quote, and in this direction they are the reason a two-hour minimum is standard.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Newer stock with fewer schools inside the community, so longer runs and later starts. Families here often split a block across two children, which is the cheapest way to use a specialist's hour.

Al Quoz 1

Just inland of the Al Safa boundary and home to several schools. Worth noting because tutors quoting in-home rates for Al Safa often live on this side and price the crossing into the hour.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the board, the level and the last marked script

A syllabus code and a recent marked paper tell a tutor more than a paragraph of description. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different papers; Standard and Higher Level are different courses. The script shows where marks are going, which is what the plan should be built on.

  2. 02

A diagnostic session with an hours estimate attached

The first session watches the student work rather than teaching at them, and ends with a named topic list and a realistic number of sessions. If the honest number is six rather than a term, you hear six. An estimate that always comes back as a term is not an estimate.

  3. 03

An all-in figure in writing before anything is paid

Rate, session length, cancellation terms, whether the figure changes in the examination term, and what is included. Al Safa families routinely collect four quotes on different bases and cannot compare them. One written monthly figure solves that in a sentence.

  4. 04

Weekly work, marked before the session not during it

Homework is set each session and marked before the next one starts, so the paid hour is spent on correction rather than on reading. That single discipline is the difference between an hour of teaching and an hour of supervision, at the same price.

  5. 05

A stop review at the next assessment point

The plan is reviewed when the next graded piece of work comes back, with stopping treated as a legitimate outcome. Sometimes the answer is fewer hours in that subject and a block in another. A provider who never recommends reducing is not reviewing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Published bands with named sources

Every dirham figure on this page names who published it and when it was read, from EdFlik's AED 45 to 65 through to BartyED's AED 650. Three of the pages competing for this search publish no price at all, and two publish dollars.

Annual cost, not just an hourly rate

The hourly figure is the smaller half of the decision. Hours needed, session minimums and cancellation terms move the annual total far more, so those are modelled here rather than left for a parent to discover after the first invoice.

Hours estimated honestly after a diagnostic

A technique gap is a six to ten session purchase and a two-term content gap is not. A diagnostic that concludes you need less than you expected is the most valuable output a first session can have, and it is the one most providers avoid producing.

Online delivery, with the reason stated

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, with the student's own work on screen. Tutors are not dispatched to UAE addresses. Part of the rationale is cost: published in-home rates carry travel time inside the hourly figure, and a family pays for the commute.

The coursework boundary priced in

A tutor teaches, explains criteria and reviews the student's own draft. Nobody writes or completes an assessed submission. Completed coursework sold cheaply is the most expensive purchase in this market, because the malpractice consequence lands on the student.

Coverage limits disclosed before payment

Some level and time-slot combinations have no UAE-based specialist free, Higher Level Physics at a Gulf evening hour among them. Where that applies you are told before booking, not afterwards, and offered the wider network at the same online one-to-one format.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Safa: your questions answered

What is a fair hourly rate for IGCSE tutoring in Al Safa?+

Judged against published Dubai rates, a qualified subject tutor working online sits around AED 150 to 300 an hour, based on Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Below roughly AED 150 you are generally buying a generalist or a university student, which EdFlik and Tutopiya price from AED 33 to 65. In-home work runs AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the figure. Ask which band a quote belongs to and what the tutor has actually taught to examination, rather than negotiating the number alone.

Why do so few Dubai tutoring sites publish their prices?+

Because the spread is wide and publishing a number invites comparison. Across the pages competing for these searches, three publish no price at all, one asks the price in its own frequently asked questions and then does not answer, and two quote in US dollars rather than dirhams. One provider's published rate contradicts the figure in its own page data. The practical consequence for a parent is that quotes arrive on different bases and cannot be compared, which is why asking for a single all-in monthly figure in writing is worth more than any amount of negotiation.

How much should I budget for a full Diploma year in Dubai?+

For one Higher Level subject at two sessions a week across a thirty-six week year, the published specialist band of AED 200 to 450 an hour gives roughly AED 14,400 to 32,400. One subject at a single weekly session halves that. Add a finite block of eight to ten sessions for the Internal Assessment window, which lands in the spring of year one. Most families under-budget that spring and over-budget the quiet autumn, so holding a reserve for the coursework crunch is more useful than spreading the same money evenly.

Is a tuition centre group class worth it instead of one-to-one?+

For revising material a student already broadly understands, yes, and the cost per student is clearly lower. For diagnosing why one particular student keeps losing method marks or misreading a command term, no, because four students sharing an hour each receive a quarter of the attention. The useful test is whether the problem is coverage or diagnosis. Coverage problems suit a group; diagnostic problems need one-to-one. A Higher Level weakness is almost always diagnostic, which is why group revision rarely shifts it.

Do tutoring rates go up closer to the exams in Dubai?+

With several providers, yes, and it is rarely mentioned at the point of quotation. Bestimate's Dubai figures place specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above, which is the top of the market, and demand for the final term concentrates on a small pool of specialists. The sensible step is to ask directly whether the rate changes in the examination term, and to secure a slot earlier at a stated rate rather than negotiating in March. Getting that commitment in writing costs nothing and removes the commonest unpleasant surprise.

Does the quoted price include VAT, and how do I check?+

Ask for the all-in figure that will actually be charged, in writing, before the first paid session. This page will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and none is offered here. What matters practically is simply whether the number quoted is the number invoiced, and whether a tax registration number appears on the invoice. A provider who cannot give you one monthly figure in writing is a provider whose annual cost you cannot forecast.

What hidden extras catch Dubai parents off guard?+

Five recur. Minimum session length, with a two-hour minimum standard for in-home work, which often means paying for more sitting than a teenager uses productively. Cancellation terms that charge in full rather than moving a session. Registration or resource fees added on top of the hourly rate. A rate that rises in the examination term. And travel time priced inside an in-home hour without being itemised. None are improper if disclosed. All are worth asking about before the first session rather than after the first invoice.

How many tutoring sessions should an Al Safa family book to start with?+

Book one diagnostic session, not a term. The diagnostic should watch the student work through a past paper question or a recent marked script and end with a named topic list plus a realistic session count. A technique gap usually needs six to ten sessions with marked practice between them. A content gap spanning two terms needs considerably more and anyone promising otherwise is overselling. Committing to a full term before the diagnosis exists is how budgets are spent without a grade moving.

Is in-home tutoring in Al Safa worth the premium over online?+

It depends on what the premium buys. For a younger child who needs physical supervision to stay on task, often yes. For a Diploma Higher Level subject, usually not, because the in-home pool is limited to tutors who can reach this part of Jumeirah at the hour you need and the published band of AED 180 to 500 includes their travel. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, delivering one-to-one tuition over live video instead, which removes the drive-time constraint on which specialist you can reach.

Which IGCSE subjects give the best return on tutoring money?+

Extended Mathematics and the practical-skills papers in the separate sciences, because in both the recurring question types are finite and drillable. Surds, algebraic fractions, graph transformations and bounds questions appear in every Mathematics series and are routinely skipped by candidates who have not been shown them. In the sciences, candidates asked to criticise a method frequently describe it instead, which is a technique correction rather than a content one. Both are short-block purchases rather than term-long commitments, which makes them the cheapest marks available.

What should I do first if my child's grades have slipped?+

Something free. Ask the subject teacher whether the lost marks on the most recent assessment were on content never covered or on questions your child could have answered, and ask to see the marked script rather than the summary grade. Content gaps and technique gaps need different interventions at different costs, and an organisation problem needs neither. Buying weekly subject tutoring before that question is answered is the commonest way an Al Safa household spends a term's budget without changing anything.

Are Dubai school fees going up for 2026-27?+

No. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, as part of Dubai's second economic incentives package. KHDA also reported seven new private schools opening for 2026-27, four British curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 additional places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26. For a household planning a tutoring budget, a flat fee bill makes the rest of the education line considerably easier to forecast this year.

What happens to my money if the tutor is not the right match?+

That depends entirely on the model you bought from, which is why it is worth asking before paying. An agency usually operates a formal rematch. A marketplace leaves you to search again. A freelance arrangement has no mechanism at all, so a poor match becomes a sunk cost and the search restarts from nothing. Ask specifically what happens after two sessions if it is not working, and get the answer in writing. A mismatched tutor is the single commonest way tutoring money is wasted in this market.

Can I reduce the cost by sharing a tutor between two of my children?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but check the subjects and levels first. A tutor fluent in Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics Extended is not automatically fluent in Diploma Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and the two need different preparation. Where the levels are close, sharing a specialist's hour across two children is genuinely efficient and keeps the vocabulary consistent at home. Where they are not, two tutors at the right level will cost more and waste less. Ask what each tutor has taught to examination, not what they are willing to cover.

Is a free trial lesson genuinely free?+

Ask what the condition is, because there usually is one. Common conditions include a shorter session than a paid one, a requirement to book a block afterwards, a card held on file, or a trial with a different tutor from the one who would teach the course. None of those are improper, but a trial is only informative if it is with the tutor who would actually teach your child, at the level they would teach, using your child's own work. Confirm all three before scheduling it.

Know the bands before you take the first quote

The reason tutoring money gets wasted in Al Safa is not that rates are high. It is that the bands are invisible, the hours are never estimated honestly, and the terms arrive after the first session. Those three things are fixable in an afternoon: read the published bands above, ask the subject teacher the free question, and insist on one all-in monthly figure in writing. IB Gram arranges one-to-one lessons over live video, matched to the syllabus code your child's school entered, with an hours estimate after a diagnostic rather than before it.
