IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Safa

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Safa is almost always hired against a date rather than a feeling. Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 each carry a written paper and an alternative-to-practical component, and the entry deadline for a series sits months before the first exam. This page is built around the calendar: which series your child sits, what the next eight weeks have to achieve, and how one-to-one lessons over live video fit a school day that ends on Al Wasl Road at 3pm.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Separate specialists for Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE both covered

IB & IGCSE in Al Safa

Start from the date on the exam entry form, not from the last report card

Parents in Al Safa usually start looking for an IGCSE science tutor in Al Safa in one of three weeks of the year: the week mock results come home, the week the school asks for Core or Extended tier decisions, and the week the final entry deadline is announced. All three are calendar events. None of them is really about whether your child is good at science. They are about whether there is enough time left to change a grade, and how that time should be spent.

That matters because science at IGCSE is not one subject. Cambridge Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 are three separate syllabuses with three separate mark schemes, and a child can be two grades apart across them. Pearson Edexcel runs its own versions with its own codes, 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. A tutor who is strong on organic chemistry is not automatically useful on electromagnetic induction. The first job of a term plan is deciding which of the three subjects actually earns the hours, and that decision has to be made from paper-level evidence rather than an overall percentage.

The second thing the calendar forces is honesty about scope. Eight weeks of one weekly session is roughly eight hours of teaching plus whatever the student does between lessons. Eight hours will not rebuild two years of physics. It will comfortably repair one topic family, drill one paper format and fix the habits that lose marks everywhere, which in practice is where most of the grade sits. A plan that promises everything in eight weeks is a plan nobody has counted.

The third is sequencing. Revision that happens in the wrong order wastes the window. Alternative-to-practical skills, for example, improve fast and improve across all three sciences at once, because the same planning, variables and graph-drawing conventions are examined in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Topic content improves slowly and only helps the topic it covers. Early in a window you buy the transferable skills; late in a window you buy past papers under timed conditions. Getting that order backwards is the single most common way a family spends real money and sees no movement.

IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one tuition over live video to families in Al Safa. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. That is stated plainly here because it changes what you are choosing between: not a tutor who lives nearby against a tutor who does not, but a tutor who teaches your child's exact syllabus against whoever can reach Al Safa by 5pm on a Tuesday. On a three-syllabus subject like science, that difference is the whole decision.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Safa families sit across the full British-curriculum ladder and a sizeable IB cohort. These are the programmes that feed into, and out of, IGCSE science, with what each one changes about the term plan.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson International GCSE

Two years, examined at the end, with science taken either as three separate subjects or as a combined award. The separate route means three syllabuses, three sets of papers and three alternative-to-practical or practical components. Grading runs 9-1 on Edexcel and A*-G or 9-1 on Cambridge depending on the syllabus version your school entered.

Al Safa sits inside the densest British-curriculum catchment in Dubai, so most students here take the separate-sciences route rather than combined science, and several schools in the area enter candidates for Cambridge in one subject and Pearson in another. Confirming which board and which code applies to each of your child's three sciences is the first thing a term plan needs; the papers are not interchangeable.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Key Stage 3 science, the year before entry

The year tiering decisions are usually seeded. Schools look at Year 9 attainment when they advise Core or Extended, and a child placed on Core in Year 9 can find the ceiling fixed before anybody discusses it with the family. Quantitative skills are the dividing line: rearranging formulae, percentage change, significant figures and graph gradients.

Several Al Safa schools set science ahead of Year 10 and publish tier guidance at parent evenings in the spring term. If your child is borderline, the useful intervention is a short block of maths-inside-science work during Year 9 rather than a full science programme, because the thing blocking the Extended tier is usually arithmetic confidence rather than biology knowledge.

IB Diploma Programme sciences

Where a large share of Dubai IGCSE science students go next. DP Biology, Chemistry and Physics at HL assume fluency with the quantitative skills IGCSE Extended builds, and the DP internal assessment assumes a student can plan an investigation independently. The gap between a comfortable IGCSE grade 6 and a workable HL start is mostly data handling.

Al Safa and the surrounding Jumeirah districts contain both British and IB schools, so transfers at 16 are routine here in a way they are not in most cities. If your child is heading from IGCSE science into a Dubai IB Diploma, the useful eight weeks after the final paper is uncertainty, error and graph analysis, not more content.

ASAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level sciences

The other post-16 route from the same IGCSE cohort. AS science assumes the Extended tier, not Core, and assumes the alternative-to-practical skills are secure because the practical endorsement builds directly on them. Students arriving from Core-tier IGCSE science often need a bridging block before the first AS assessment rather than after it.

Because tier choice at 14 quietly constrains the A Level options available at 16, the Core or Extended conversation in Al Safa is worth having a year earlier than most families have it. A tutor can show you, with past papers from the actual code, what the Extended tier asks that the Core tier does not.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science is booked subject by subject, paper by paper. These are the components Al Safa families most often ask for, with what each one assesses and where the marks tend to leak.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Marks are lost less on recall than on command terms. 'Explain' needs a mechanism, 'describe' needs the trend, and 'suggest' expects applied reasoning about an unfamiliar organism. Transport, respiration and homeostasis are the topics where a student who 'knows it' still scores two out of five.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

The quantitative half decides the grade. Moles, concentration, titration arithmetic and yield calculations are mechanical once drilled and catastrophic when they are not. Electrolysis and the reactivity series reward precise half-equations rather than general description.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and waves separate grades. Series and parallel circuits, potential dividers and the difference between current, potential difference and resistance account for a disproportionate share of lost marks, usually because the student is pattern-matching to a remembered question instead of reading the circuit drawn.

Alternative to Practical (Paper 6)

Both tiers, all three sciences

The highest-return component to tutor and the most ignored. It tests experiment planning, controlling variables, reading instruments, tabulating results and drawing a line of best fit. The conventions are shared across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, so improvement in one subject carries straight into the other two.

Coordinated and Combined Science

Double and single award

One grade covering all three disciplines, with reduced content per subject and a different paper structure from separate sciences. Students who moved from combined to separate mid-course carry specific gaps, and a tutor needs the school's scheme of work to find them rather than guessing.

Mathematics inside science

Supporting block

Rearranging equations, standard form, unit conversion, percentage change and gradients. Weak science grades in Al Safa are frequently weak arithmetic grades in disguise, and a short block here lifts all three sciences at once rather than one of them.

Extended-response technique

Extended tier

The six-mark questions where candidates write a paragraph and score two. Students are taught to plan against the mark allocation, to use the subject's vocabulary rather than paraphrase, and to answer the question actually asked instead of the adjacent one they revised.

Past-paper diagnosis

All subjects

Working through papers from the exact syllabus code and series, marked against the official mark scheme, then sorted into error types rather than topics. A student who loses marks to misread questions needs a different intervention from one who loses them to unlearned content.

Mathematics (IGCSE, alongside science)

Core, Extended and Further

Frequently booked in the same term as science because the two share the quantitative base. Graphs, proportion and algebraic manipulation appear in both, and families often find one tutor covering maths and one covering a science is the cheaper combination than three science tutors.

Arabic as an additional language

KHDA-mandated stream

Mandatory in Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, and examined on its own terms. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, so the content your child meets depends on which group they are in, and support has to match that stream.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Safa families buy science support, chosen by where the term sits rather than by preference. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video.

Weekly single-subject session

One hour a week on the weakest of the three sciences, running through a term. The default for a student two grades off target with more than a term to go, because it allows topic repair and habit change in the same block. Most Al Safa bookings start here and widen only if the diagnosis says so.

  • One syllabus code, one specialist, one set of papers
  • Written target per fortnight rather than per lesson
  • Scheduled from 4.30pm GST after the Al Wasl Road school run
  • Reviewed against a marked past paper every four weeks

Eight-week pre-series block

Two sessions a week for the eight weeks before a June or November series, split between paper technique and the two topic families that cost the most marks. Built backwards from the exam window rather than forwards from the syllabus, which is the difference between revision and a plan.

  • Diagnostic paper in week one, marked against the official scheme
  • Alternative-to-practical skills front-loaded in weeks one to three
  • Timed full papers from week five onwards
  • Final fortnight spent only on repeated error types

Paper 6 and practical-skills block

A short four to six session block on the alternative-to-practical component alone, taught once and applied across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The cheapest measurable gain available in IGCSE science because the conventions are shared and the marks are formulaic.

  • Variables, control and experiment planning
  • Reading scales, tabulating and significant figures
  • Graph plotting, best-fit lines and gradient work
  • Evaluation and improvement questions against the mark scheme

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Safa

01

What an IGCSE science tutor in Al Safa is being asked to fix this term

  • Count the usable hours before buying any of them
  • Diagnose from a marked paper, not from a report grade
  • Spend the first block on skills that transfer across all three sciences
  • Accept that one weekly session will not move three subjects at once

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Safa is hired, nine times out of ten, to move one or two of three subjects by one or two grades inside a fixed number of weeks. That is the whole brief. Everything else follows from counting the weeks and then deciding which of Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 the hours go to.

The counting part is simple and almost nobody does it. Take the date of the first science paper in your child's series. Subtract the school's own mock window, the half-term break and the week of the Eid or winter holiday if they fall inside the period. What remains is the number of teaching hours actually available. A family that starts in the first week of a term with a weekly session has perhaps twelve usable hours before a June series; a family that starts after the mocks has five. Those are different plans, not the same plan with less of it.

The deciding part is where paper-level evidence replaces instinct. A school report that says 'working towards grade 5 in science' tells you nothing actionable. A marked Paper 4 tells you that eleven of the lost marks were in quantitative chemistry, six were command-term failures spread across topics, and four were on a single unlearned topic. The first of those is a four-session fix, the second is a habit, and the third is twenty minutes. Without that breakdown, the hours get spread evenly across three syllabuses and nothing moves far enough to change a grade.

The honest limit is worth stating as well. Science grades move reliably when there is a specific, diagnosable gap and at least six weeks. They move less reliably when a student is near their ceiling in all three subjects, when the real problem is attendance or sleep, or when the family wants three subjects lifted simultaneously on one session a week. A tutor who tells you which of those you are in before taking money is worth more than one who agrees to everything.

02

The exam series, counted backwards from the paper

UAE candidates sit two series a year. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, warning that 'it is essential that you use the correct version of the timetable for your zone' because Cambridge 'cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam' after a zone mix-up. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. The February and March Cambridge series is offered to India only and is not available to candidates in the UAE, so ignore any revision plan built around it.

The pattern that matters more than the exact dates is the gap between the entry deadline and the exam. Entries close months in advance, which means the decision about which tier and which subjects your child is entered for is made long before anybody knows how the revision went. For the Pearson November 2026 series the final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students in January; November 2025 results landed with students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 Pearson results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well ahead of a series, including the November series a full year out, and revises those drafts more than once, so the live official timetable is the only version worth planning against.

Read backwards, that produces a usable shape for an Al Safa family. Entry decisions and tier confirmation happen roughly five to six months before the papers. Mocks sit eight to twelve weeks out and are the last honest diagnostic before the real thing. The final eight weeks are for timed papers and error elimination, not new content. Results arrive two to three months after the papers, and the enquiry-about-results and retake windows open immediately after that, which is why a family hoping to resit in the next series has to decide quickly rather than wait for the next school term.

The practical consequence is that the best eight weeks of tutoring your money can buy are the eight weeks before mocks, not the eight before the exam. Mock results drive predicted grades, predicted grades drive sixth-form and university conversations, and a child who fixes their paper technique before mocks gets a better prediction and a calmer final term. Families who arrive after mocks can still move a grade; they just have fewer options about how.

Eight weeks, three sciences: what the plan actually contains

Eight weeks is the standard unit because it is long enough for a habit to change and short enough that a family can see the end of it. With two sessions a week that is sixteen hours of teaching; with one it is eight. The plan below assumes the shorter version, because that is what most Al Safa families start with, and it assumes the student does roughly the same amount again between sessions.

Weeks one to three go to shared skills. Alternative-to-practical conventions, graph plotting, significant figures, rearranging equations and the discipline of reading what a question asks before answering it. These are taught once and used in all three sciences, which is the only way eight hours touches three subjects honestly. A student who cannot draw a line of best fit is losing marks in Biology, Chemistry and Physics simultaneously, and fixing that costs one session.

Weeks four to six go to the one topic family the diagnostic named. For Chemistry that is usually moles and concentration; for Physics, circuits; for Biology, the processes where a mechanism is required rather than a description. The work here is narrow on purpose. One topic family taught to the point of fluency produces a bigger grade movement than six topics revisited briefly, because partially-known topics are exactly what the mark scheme punishes.

Weeks seven and eight go to timed papers and nothing else. Full papers from the exact syllabus code, marked hard, with every lost mark classified as content, technique or misreading. Then the same error types retested the following week. No new content is introduced in this block however tempting it looks, because a topic learned in week eight is not reliable in week nine and the time spent on it comes out of paper practice that is.

Core or Extended: a decision with a deadline attached

Cambridge IGCSE sciences are tiered. Core caps the grade available; Extended does not. The school decides which tier a candidate is entered for, and that entry is made months before the exam, which makes the tier conversation a calendar event rather than an academic one. Once entries close, the ceiling is fixed for that series regardless of how the final ten weeks of revision go.

The consequence sits two years later. AS and A Level sciences assume Extended-tier content and Extended-tier quantitative fluency. A student entered for Core because they were borderline in Year 10 can find the A Level route closed at 16 by a decision taken at 14, usually without the family understanding that was what was being decided. Dubai schools vary in how early and how firmly they tier, so the useful question at a parent evening in Al Safa is not 'how is she doing' but 'which tier is she currently on track for, and what would move her'.

What actually moves a borderline student onto Extended is rarely more biology. It is the arithmetic inside science: rearranging a formula, handling standard form, converting units, reading a gradient. Those are the skills Extended papers assume and Core papers mostly avoid. A short block on them during Year 9 or early Year 10 costs a fraction of a two-year tutoring programme and changes the tier question while it is still open.

If the entry has already been made at Core, the honest position is that this series has a ceiling and the work should aim at the top of it, with the Extended conversation moved to the next series or to the bridging year. Pretending otherwise wastes a term. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences are untiered, so a student on an Edexcel code faces a different version of this question: one paper set, no ceiling, and a wider grade range to defend.

05

Where IGCSE science marks actually go missing

  • Command terms: describe gives the trend, explain gives the mechanism, suggest applies to the unfamiliar
  • Quantitative speed matters as much as quantitative accuracy
  • Annotate the diagram in front of you before reaching for a remembered method
  • Plan a six-mark answer against six marks, not against the topic

Most lost marks in IGCSE science are not lost to ignorance. They are lost in four repeatable ways, and all four are visible on a marked paper if somebody bothers to classify them. Knowing which of the four a student is in changes the plan completely, which is why the diagnostic session exists.

The first is command-term failure. A question says 'explain' and the student describes. The content is right and the marks are not awarded, because 'explain' requires a because, a mechanism, a causal link. This costs a grade on its own in Biology more often than in the other two sciences, and it is a two-session fix because it is a reading habit rather than missing knowledge.

The second is quantitative collapse. The student knows that concentration is moles over volume and still cannot get through a three-step titration calculation under time pressure, because each individual step is slow. Speed here is not a nicety; a candidate who takes four minutes on a two-minute calculation runs out of paper. Drill is the only remedy and it works quickly.

The third is pattern-matching. The student recognises a circuit that looks like one they revised, answers the remembered question, and ignores the detail that was changed. Physics punishes this hardest. The fix is forcing annotation of the actual diagram before any calculation begins. The fourth is the six-mark extended response, where a paragraph of correct general knowledge scores two of six because it was not planned against the mark allocation. Teaching a student to count the marks and plan that many distinct points is mechanical and reliable.

06

Practical science when the lessons are online

The reasonable question about online science tuition is what happens to the practical work. The answer is specific rather than reassuring: the practical component most IGCSE candidates in Dubai sit is Paper 6, the alternative to practical, which is a written paper about experiments rather than an experiment. It is examined on planning, variable control, instrument reading, tabulation, graph work and evaluation. Every one of those is taught better with a shared screen, a mark scheme and a real candidate response than with a beaker.

Where a school enters candidates for the practical test rather than the alternative, the hands-on work belongs to the school laboratory and always has; no tutor in any format substitutes for it. What a tutor contributes is the surrounding competence: knowing what the examiner wants recorded, how many significant figures the data justifies, why the anomalous point is circled and excluded from the line, and what an 'improvement' answer has to name. Students routinely perform an experiment competently and then lose half the marks writing it up.

The online format has one concrete advantage here that is worth stating plainly. Marking a graph is a visual, iterative activity, and a shared screen with an annotated PDF is closer to how an examiner works than a tutor leaning over a kitchen table. Past papers, mark schemes and the student's own marked work sit side by side, the session is recorded for revision, and the same material is available again the night before the exam.

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, and a page that implied otherwise would be selling something we do not run. For a science family in Al Safa the trade is explicit: you give up a person in the room, and you get a specialist in the specific syllabus code and the specific paper your child is losing marks on.

07

What a term of science support costs in this market

Price a term rather than an hour and the market gets easier to read. An eight-week block at one session a week is eight hours; the same block at two sessions is sixteen. Multiply the hourly band by those numbers and the difference between tiers of tutor stops being abstract. Eight hours at the budget end of the Dubai market is a few hundred dirhams; eight hours of named-examiner teaching is several thousand. Both are sold as 'science tutoring in Dubai'.

The published figures, attributed to whoever published them, run like this. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, which is the budget online band where tutors are often university students. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200, which is the qualified-subject-tutor band. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350, home tutors generally at AED 200 to 500, and specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above. BartyED sits at AED 650. Monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

Those are market rates from the sources named, not IB Gram's price list. Three of the six ranking pages in this search publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family pays a tutor in. The reason to publish the bands is that they let you check a quote: a tutor asking AED 400 an hour for Year 10 single-subject science is asking at the specialist exam-year rate for work that is not specialist exam-year work, and you can now see that.

What the number should be judged against is the plan, not the hour. Sixteen hours spent on a diagnosed topic family and paper technique is worth more than forty hours of general science revision at a lower rate, and both have a price you can calculate before you start. Ask any tutor for the eight-week plan in writing and the cost of it in total. A tutor who cannot produce that is selling hours rather than an outcome, and hours are the thing families in Al Safa most often over-buy.

Online against a tutor driving to Al Safa at five o'clock

The in-home option in Al Safa is real and worth understanding before dismissing it. Market rates for in-home one-to-one sit at AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's table and up to AED 500 for home tutors generally, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. The gap is largely travel. A tutor crossing Dubai to Al Safa for a 5pm session on Al Wasl Road is committing ninety minutes of unpaid time to deliver sixty minutes of teaching, and that arithmetic is inside the hourly rate whether or not anybody says so.

What the premium buys is a person in the room, which genuinely helps some students: younger children, students who will not engage with a screen, and families who want the session visible from the kitchen. What it costs is not only money. It narrows the tutor pool to whoever can reach your address at the hour you need, and on a three-syllabus subject that is a sharp constraint. There are not many Chemistry 0620 specialists in Dubai; there are fewer who can be on Al Wasl Road at 5pm on a Tuesday in term time; and the intersection of those two sets is where the compromise happens.

The scheduling cost compounds in the pre-exam weeks, which is exactly when the sessions matter most. A travelling tutor can hold perhaps four sessions in an afternoon, so the 4.30pm and 5pm slots every family wants are allocated by who booked first in September. Sessions get cancelled for traffic. Rescheduling means finding another slot that works for the drive as well as the student. Online, the constraint is only the student's own timetable.

IB Gram's answer to all of this is to deliver one-to-one over live video and to be explicit that we do not send tutors to UAE addresses. The comparison table sets the two models side by side on the terms that matter to a science family: who you can actually get, what it costs, and what happens the week before the paper.

Academic honesty, coursework and what a science tutor may not do

  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work
  • Completed coursework sold as a service is malpractice, whatever it is called
  • Boards' papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, never redistributed
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free for two years; ask whether your tutor holds one

IGCSE science carries less assessed coursework than the IB, but the honesty line still matters and the market in this search includes providers who cross it. One site in this cluster sells completed IB Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is not a grey area. Submitting work a student did not produce is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student, not the seller.

What a science tutor may legitimately do is teach, model, question and give feedback. A tutor may work through a past-paper question, mark a student's own attempt against the official scheme, explain why three marks were withheld and set a comparable question to test whether the explanation landed. A tutor may teach the structure of a practical write-up and critique the student's draft. A tutor may not produce the write-up, dictate it line by line, or edit it until the words are the tutor's rather than the student's.

There is also a copyright line that tidy operations respect. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB. We reference them and link to the official source; we do not host or redistribute them, and a tutor offering a drive full of boards' material is telling you something about how else they operate.

The regulatory position in Dubai is worth knowing too. Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-based: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount can be quoted. Applications go through the MoHRE service 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing'. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for school staff bar paid tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar.

KHDA, mandatory subjects and the week your child actually has

Any science plan for an Al Safa family has to fit a real week, and in Dubai that week contains more than the licensed curriculum. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and it requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of which international curriculum the school is licensed for, with those requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Federal rules say the same thing from above: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must follow the Ministry's general regulations.

The detail is specific enough to plan around. KHDA requires separate classes by group: 'For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited due to the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction.' Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Schools must also ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects.

For a Year 11 student in Al Safa taking three separate sciences plus maths plus the mandatory subjects, the timetable is close to full before any tutoring is added. That is the real argument for a narrow eight-week block rather than an open-ended weekly commitment across three sciences: the hours have to come from somewhere, and in exam year they come out of sleep or revision. One diagnosed subject, taught properly for eight weeks, is more deliverable than three subjects taught thinly for a year.

The wider market context is useful for judging what a tutoring budget is being set against. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Safa

Al Safa sits between Sheikh Zayed Road and the Jumeirah coast, on the Al Wasl Road corridor. These are the neighbouring districts whose families book the same subjects, with what differs about each one's school day.

Al Safa 1 and Al Safa 2

Villa communities either side of Al Wasl Road, with Safa Park between them. School pickup clears by about 3.15pm, so a 4.30pm or 5pm science session is realistic on weekdays without cutting into homework.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

The coastal strip immediately north. Families here commute along Jumeirah Beach Road, where the afternoon crawl adds 15 to 25 minutes between 3pm and 4pm, which is exactly why online sessions start later here than the clock would suggest.

Al Wasl

The inland side of the same corridor, with a mix of villas and low-rise apartments. Shares school catchments with Al Safa almost entirely, so sibling bookings across the two districts are common.

Umm Suqeim

Further along the coast towards Burj Al Arab. Heavier British-curriculum concentration and a high share of separate-sciences entries, so Paper 6 requests dominate in the spring term here.

Al Manara and Al Safa Park surrounds

Quieter residential blocks with short school runs. Students here often manage two sessions a week in the final six weeks before a series without the schedule collapsing.

City Walk and Al Bada'a

Apartment living closer to the city, with a wider spread of curricula including Indian-board and American schools. Science bookings here more often involve a curriculum transfer than a tier decision.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Newer coastal developments with fewer schools inside them, so longer commutes in both directions. Later start times and weekend-morning sessions are the norm rather than the exception.

Al Satwa and Al Hudaiba

The older inner districts on the Dubai side of Al Safa, with denser apartment housing and strong Indian and British school representation. Shares the Al Diyafah Street commute into Jumeirah.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Safa

Al Safa and Al Wasl

The schools immediately inside or bordering the district. Several run both British and IB pathways, which is why Al Safa produces more IGCSE-to-Diploma transfers than most Dubai neighbourhoods. KHDA publishes an inspection rating for each of them on its own site.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Horizon English School Dubai
  • Safa British School
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • Al Safa Private School

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

The coastal cluster most Al Safa families also consider, within a 10 to 20 minute drive along Jumeirah Beach Road. British curriculum dominates by enrolment, with IGCSE at 16 before a split into A Level or the IB Diploma.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Al Ittihad Private School Jumeirah
  • Raffles International School

Schools are named here as local context for families choosing a programme; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement by any school is implied, and inspection ratings should be read on KHDA's own site.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the three codes and the date

Which board and syllabus code each science is entered for, which tier, and when the series is. Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. A school report is useful; the codes and the date are what the plan is actually built from.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper, not a grade

One recent marked paper per science, ideally a mock. We classify every lost mark as content, technique or misreading, and that classification decides which subject gets the hours. This is the step most families skip and the one that determines whether the term works.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched specialist

One full session, no payment and no card, with the tutor matched to the weakest subject. You hear how they explain the thing your child cannot do. If the match is wrong, say so and we match again rather than asking you to make it work.

  4. 04

    The eight-week plan in writing

Fortnightly targets, which topic family is being repaired, which paper is being drilled and the total hours and total cost. Scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, usually from 4.30pm after the Al Safa school run, with weekend mornings available in the pre-series weeks.

  5. 05

Review against a paper every four weeks

A fresh paper, marked hard, compared with the diagnostic. Error types either moved or they did not. If they did not, the plan changes rather than the student being told to work harder, and we will say when the honest answer is that the subject is near its ceiling.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Three sciences, three specialists

Biology, Chemistry and Physics are matched separately by syllabus code. One tutor covering all three is convenient and usually means a generalist on at least two of them, which shows up at the quantitative end of Chemistry and the circuits end of Physics.

The plan is counted, not promised

You get a number of usable hours before the series, a target per fortnight and a total cost. Nothing on this page claims a grade; grades are awarded by Cambridge and Pearson, and no tutor controls them.

Paper 6 treated as a subject

The alternative-to-practical component is the highest-return block in IGCSE science and most tutoring ignores it. Taught once, it pays in all three subjects, which is the only honest way eight hours improves three syllabuses.

Market rates published, with sources

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the providers who published them, with the tier they apply to. Three of the six pages ranking for this search publish no price at all; you should be able to check a quote before you accept it.

Online delivery stated, not buried

Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE and holds no KHDA or MoHRE accreditation to claim, and we would rather say both here than have you find out after a payment.

Availability disclosed when it is short

If no specialist is free for a code and a slot in the window you need, we say so and tell you when one is, rather than putting a generalist in the session. Al Safa's 4.30pm to 6pm window is the most contested one we schedule.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Safa: your questions answered

How many weeks before the exam should IGCSE science tutoring in Al Safa start?+

Eight weeks before your child's school mocks is the highest-value window, not eight weeks before the real papers. Mocks set predicted grades, and a student whose paper technique is fixed before mocks gets a better prediction and a calmer final term. If you have already passed mocks, six to eight weeks before the series still allows one topic family to be repaired and paper technique to be drilled. Under four weeks, the honest plan is timed papers and error elimination only, because new content learned that late is not reliable under exam pressure.

Which exam series do IGCSE science candidates in Dubai actually sit?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. The February and March Cambridge series is offered to India only and is not available to UAE candidates, so revision plans built around it are planning for the wrong country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask your school's exams officer which zone your centre is in.

Do we need separate tutors for Biology, Chemistry and Physics?+

Usually for two of the three, rarely for all three at once. Each is a distinct syllabus with its own mark scheme, and a tutor strong on organic chemistry is not automatically useful on electromagnetic induction. What changes the calculation is that the shared skills block, roughly the first three weeks of a plan, lifts all three sciences at once: command terms, graph work, significant figures and the alternative-to-practical conventions are examined identically across them. Most families start with one specialist on the weakest subject and add a second only if the diagnostic says the hours are justified.

What does Paper 6 test, and can it really be taught online?+

Paper 6 is the alternative to practical. It is a written paper about experiments, examining planning, variable control, reading instruments, tabulating results, plotting graphs, drawing lines of best fit and answering evaluation and improvement questions. None of it requires apparatus, and all of it requires a mark scheme and a real candidate response to work against. A shared screen with an annotated PDF is closer to how an examiner marks than a tutor leaning over a table, and the conventions transfer directly between Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which makes it the cheapest measurable gain in the subject.

My child is entered for Core science. Can a tutor get them onto Extended?+

Not for a series whose entries have already closed, because the tier is fixed at entry and so is the grade ceiling. For that series the sensible aim is the top of the Core range. For the next series, or during Year 9 and early Year 10, the tier question is open and the thing that usually moves a borderline student is the arithmetic inside science rather than more biology: rearranging formulae, standard form, unit conversion and reading gradients. A short block on those is far cheaper than a two-year programme and changes the conversation while the school can still act on it.

What do IGCSE science tutors charge per hour in Dubai?+

The published market splits into bands. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 at the budget online end. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above, with in-home visits at AED 180 to 350. BartyED sits at AED 650. Those are the providers' own figures, not ours. Price an eight-hour block rather than an hour and the bands become easier to compare.

Is an in-home science tutor in Al Safa worth the extra cost?+

It depends on what the premium is buying. In-home rates run AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, and most of that gap is travel time rather than better teaching. A person in the room genuinely helps younger students and those who will not engage with a screen. What it costs beyond money is the tutor pool: you can only hire someone who can reach Al Safa at your hour, which on a three-syllabus subject means compromising on the specialist. IB Gram delivers online only in the UAE.

How does the free trial lesson work before we commit?+

One full one-to-one session over live video with the tutor matched to your child's weakest science, with no payment and no card details taken beforehand. The point is for you to hear how that tutor explains the specific thing your child cannot currently do, rather than to be sold to. If the match is wrong, tell us and we match again. If you decide not to continue, nothing is owed. Trials are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, usually after 4.30pm on weekdays or on a weekend morning.

Can sessions fit around the Al Safa school run and Al Wasl Road traffic?+

Yes, and the format removes most of the problem. Pickup around Al Safa and Jumeirah clears by roughly 3.15pm, and the Jumeirah Beach Road crawl adds 15 to 25 minutes between 3pm and 4pm, which is why sessions here usually start at 4.30pm or 5pm rather than straight after school. Because lessons are over live video, nobody is driving to the session and a bad traffic afternoon does not cancel it. In the pre-series weeks, weekend mornings are the slot most Al Safa families add.

Which schools near Al Safa do you support students from?+

Students we work with attend schools in and around Al Safa and the Jumeirah coast, including Jumeirah College, Horizon English School Dubai, Safa British School, Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Latifa School for Girls, Jumeirah English Speaking School and Al Ittihad Private School Jumeirah. Those are named as local context, not as partners or clients, and no school endorses us. KHDA publishes each school's inspection rating on its own site, which is the place to read it rather than a tutoring page. What matters for a plan is the syllabus code the school entered, which varies between schools in the same street.

Does a private science tutor in Dubai need a permit?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-based. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you. The application route is MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service.

Can a tutor help with a science practical write-up without crossing a line?+

A tutor can teach the structure of a write-up, explain what the mark scheme rewards at each stage, critique a draft the student wrote and set a comparable task to check the feedback landed. A tutor cannot produce the write-up, dictate it, or edit it until the words belong to the tutor. The distinction is not cosmetic: submitted work must be the student's own, and one provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, which is malpractice and puts the student at risk rather than the seller.

How much time between lessons does my child need to put in?+

Roughly the same again as the lesson, which for one weekly session means about an hour. Less than that and the session becomes a weekly explanation that does not stick; much more than that in exam year and it comes out of sleep, which costs more than it gains. What the between-lesson hour is spent on matters more than its length: a specific set of questions on the topic just taught, timed, then marked against the scheme so the next session starts from evidence rather than from a conversation about how it went.

What happens if no specialist is free for my child's syllabus code?+

We tell you, and we tell you when one is, rather than putting a generalist into the slot. The 4.30pm to 6pm weekday window is the most contested one in Dubai, and in the eight weeks before a series specialist availability in a specific code tightens further. Options we will offer are a different time, a weekend morning, a shorter block with a named start date, or a different subject first if the diagnostic shows that is where the marks actually are. What we will not do is fill the hour and leave you to discover the mismatch in week three.

Do you offer Arabic and the other KHDA-mandated subjects alongside science?+

Yes, as separate one-to-one streams. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Support has to match the stream your child is actually in. KHDA also expects school teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education to hold its approval for those subjects, so ask what a tutor's background in the specific stream is rather than in Arabic generally.

Count the weeks, then book the eight that matter

If your child sits IGCSE science in the next June or November series, the most useful thing you can do this week is find out the three syllabus codes, the tier for each, and the number of teaching weeks left once mocks and holidays are removed. Send us one marked paper per science and we will tell you which subject the hours should go to and what eight weeks can realistically move. The trial lesson is free and takes one slot after the Al Safa school run. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and if we cannot staff the code you need we will say so.
