IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Karamah

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Karamah is usually hired to fix something specific, and most families cannot name it yet. This page names it for you: the syllabus codes on your child's entry, the command terms the mark scheme rewards, the traps each subject sets, and how past papers should actually be used. Lessons for Al Karamah run online, one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Karamah

The syllabus is the plan, and almost nobody reads it

Al Karamah is an inland district on the Abu Dhabi island, next to Al Mushrif, and its families use the schools a few minutes away in either direction. Most of its Year 10 and Year 11 students sit Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs across eight to ten subjects. When a parent here searches for a tutor, the trigger is nearly always a single report comment or a mock grade, and the request that follows is usually too general to act on: he needs help with science, she is struggling in maths.

The syllabus turns that into something workable. Every IGCSE subject publishes exactly what it assesses, how each paper is weighted, which command terms it uses and what each one demands. Read it and a vague worry becomes a list. A student is not bad at physics; they are losing marks on explain questions and on graph gradients, and they have never been taught the difference between describe and explain in an examination context. The same is true of calculate against show that, which signal different amounts of written working. That is three sessions of work, not a term of general science support.

The second thing the syllabus settles is which course your child is actually on. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 are different papers with different calculator rules and different tier names. Cambridge Physics 0625 and Edexcel 4PH1 differ in how practical skills are assessed. Revision advice written for the wrong board is worse than none, and it is freely available on the internet, which is why so much of it ends up in a student's notes.

This page is therefore built around content rather than around claims. It sets out the codes, the command terms, the traps each subject reliably sets, how past papers should be used so that they diagnose rather than just occupy an evening, and how practical skills are examined for students who are taught online. The AED market rates and the regulatory position are here too, because a parent deciding where money goes should see both.

On delivery, the position is plain. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Al Karamah; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the student's own papers and mark schemes on screen and working written live on a shared whiteboard. The in-home market here is real and well priced, and the comparison in this page is made with its published figures rather than against a straw man. If you read one section, read the one on command terms, because it is the cheapest set of marks available to any student in this district and almost nobody is taught it deliberately.

At a glance

  • Find the syllabus code on the statement of entry before booking anybody
  • Command terms are examinable skills and they are teachable in a session or two
  • Core and Foundation tiers cap the grade available; that decision is taken in Year 10
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; Cambridge offers February/March in India only
  • All Al Karamah lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages matter for an IGCSE household in this district, because what happens before and after the examined years shapes how they go.

KS3Ages 11-14

Lower secondary, Years 7 to 9

The years in which algebraic fluency and scientific vocabulary are either built or not. There is no external examination, so weaknesses are invisible until Year 10, when the pace doubles. Support at this stage is cheap and unglamorous: fractions, negative numbers, rearranging formulae and writing a full sentence in an answer.

Several schools near Al Karamah run Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests, which are sat in March, May and October and give a genuine external reference point before the IGCSE years begin. A weak Checkpoint result is useful information rather than a verdict, and it arrives early enough to act on without any pressure.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Edexcel International GCSE

Two years of taught content ending in terminal papers, tiered as Core and Extended with Cambridge or Foundation and Higher with Edexcel. Grades gate sixth-form options, so a weak Year 10 narrows Year 12 before anyone discusses it. The work that moves a grade is timed papers marked against the published scheme.

Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Entries are made by the school as an exam centre, and Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version; Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used.

AS/A2Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level, or the Diploma Programme

Where IGCSE grades are spent. Three or four linear subjects, or six Diploma subjects with the core. Students arriving from comfortable Extended grades are frequently surprised by the algebraic and analytical step up in the first term, and that gap is the usual reason a Year 12 asks for help in October.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects. Verify the current wording with the Ministry.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is described by its paper structure and the specific place marks go, because that is the level of detail at which a tutor is either useful or decorative.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended, Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Cambridge bars the calculator in one paper by design; Edexcel allows it in both. Marks go on method lines, rounding instructions and three-dimensional trigonometry sketches far more often than on misunderstood topics.

Physics

Cambridge 0625, Edexcel 4PH1

Electricity produces the widest mark spread at this level. Graph gradients, unit conversions and explain questions that want a mechanism rather than a restatement are the other three reliable losses, and all four are teachable routines.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620, Edexcel 4CH1

Moles calculations, ionic equations and the qualitative analysis tests students memorise in the wrong direction. Many marks are lost by answering a describe question with an explanation and running out of time later in the paper.

Biology

Cambridge 0610, Edexcel 4BI1

The highest content volume of the three sciences and the strictest command-term discipline. Rereading notes produces an early plateau. Answering past questions and checking which verb the scheme rewarded is what moves the grade.

English as a First Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990

Directed writing and the reading passages, where marks depend on selecting evidence rather than summarising it. Students who write fluently and generally still lose heavily on the targeted-response questions that demand precision.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A different course with different expectations, and Al Karamah households sometimes discover mid-year that their child is on it. Exercise-level accuracy and listening technique matter more than vocabulary breadth here.

Economics

Cambridge 0455

Diagrams plus structured evaluation. The four-mark explain questions are where grades are made, and students lose them by writing a definition and stopping. Data-response discipline is a short, learnable skill.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450

Applying a concept to the case study in front of you rather than reciting it. Marks are allocated for application and judgement, and generic answers score about half. Past-paper case practice is the entire method.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Early calculus, functions and trigonometric identities for students heading to a linear maths course or Higher Level. Usually timetabled as a twilight option, which makes it the subject most likely to need outside support.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Theory papers that reward precise technical vocabulary, plus practical components where marks go on following the task specification exactly. Students who code confidently often write poor theory answers, which is a separate skill.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by what the syllabus work needs. All run online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to the Abu Dhabi school day.

Syllabus audit and rebuild

The first sessions walk the published syllabus for one subject against the student's own work, marking each statement as secure, shaky or absent. What follows is taught in that order. It is slower to start than diving into past papers and it produces a plan that survives contact with a mock.

  • Every syllabus statement rated against real evidence
  • Teaching order set by the gaps, not by the textbook
  • Re-audited after each mock so the plan stays honest

Mark-scheme and command-term clinic

A short block aimed at students who know the content and keep losing marks. Each session takes real questions and real published schemes and works on what the verb demanded: describe, explain, suggest, compare, calculate. Most students gain more here than from any amount of additional content teaching.

  • Real questions marked against the published scheme
  • Command terms taught explicitly, with model answers compared
  • Timing practised, because unfinished papers are the biggest single loss

Pre-series paper programme

Two sessions a week in the six to eight weeks before a June or November sitting. One timed paper is completed before each session and marked to the scheme; the lesson is spent on the losses in order of volume. New content stops unless something critical is genuinely missing.

  • Papers sat under exam conditions, calculator and non-calculator separately
  • An error log carried across the block so patterns show up
  • The final fortnight spent on timing and question order

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Karamah

01

What an IGCSE tutor in this district is usually being asked to fix

Across first sessions with students from the central island schools, the same five losses appear, and only one of them is a knowledge gap. The largest is the command term: answering an explain question with a description, or a suggest question with a definition. The second is working not shown, which forfeits method marks even when the final answer is right. The third is the instruction inside the question, meaning units, significant figures and exact form. The fourth is timing, with the last two questions rushed or blank. The fifth is a genuinely missing topic.

This ordering matters because it decides what to buy. Four of the five are technique, and technique responds quickly: a student who is taught to read the verb and show the working can gain marks within a fortnight without learning anything new. The fifth takes longer and is the only one that needs sustained subject teaching. A tutor who starts by teaching content rather than by reading a marked paper is likely to be working on the one in five rather than the four.

The table sets out the traps by subject, because they are not the same everywhere. Physics punishes gradients and unit handling; chemistry punishes the direction of a qualitative test; biology punishes the verb; business punishes generic answers that never touch the case study. A single session spent identifying which of these a particular student owns is worth more than a month of general support, and it is the first thing any match conversation here should establish.

Cambridge or Edexcel: find the codes before you book anybody

Both boards are widely entered in Abu Dhabi, sometimes within one school and occasionally within one student's subject set. The codes are on the statement of entry the school issues and on the front cover of every past paper the department distributes. If neither is to hand the exams officer will confirm them in one email. This is a five-minute job that changes which tutor is right and which past papers are worth sitting.

The practical differences are specific rather than philosophical. In maths, Cambridge 0580 examines one non-calculator paper and one calculator paper, while Edexcel 4MA1 allows a calculator in both and splits the marks equally between two papers. Tier names differ: Core and Extended against Foundation and Higher. In the sciences, the arrangements for practical assessment differ, which matters a great deal for a student taught partly online. In English, Cambridge's first-language and second-language routes are different qualifications with different expectations.

Mixing boards across a subject set is allowed and reasonably common, and it creates one hazard worth naming: a student revising from a sibling's or a friend's resources may be sitting a different paper. We ask for the codes before matching a tutor, not as bureaucracy but because a specialist on the wrong board will teach the content well and miss the examination behaviour, which is where the marks are. The codes also decide which past papers are worth sitting, and sitting the wrong ones is a quiet way to lose a term of revision.

Command terms, and why they are the cheapest marks available

  • State: a fact, no reasoning, no padding
  • Describe: what happens, in order, without the because
  • Explain: the mechanism, with the because made explicit
  • Suggest: principle applied to something unfamiliar, so several answers may score
  • Calculate: the working shown line by line, units carried through

Every IGCSE paper is written in a controlled vocabulary, and each verb has a defined expectation. State wants a short fact with no reasoning. Describe wants what happens, in sequence, without why. Explain wants the mechanism and the because. Suggest wants a plausible application of principle to an unfamiliar situation, which means there is rarely one right answer. Compare wants both sides addressed in the same sentence structure. Calculate wants the working on the page.

Students lose marks on this constantly, and it is not a reading problem. Nobody has taught them the vocabulary as a vocabulary. A Year 11 can usually be shown the difference between describe and explain in twenty minutes, then needs four or five marked attempts before the habit holds. That is one and a half sessions to recover marks across every science paper and most of the humanities, which is the best return available anywhere in IGCSE tutoring.

The method is simple enough that a parent can support it at home. Take a past question, cover the answer, write a response, then read the published mark scheme and count where the marks actually sat. Students are surprised by how often the scheme awards a mark for something they thought was obvious and withholds one for the part they laboured over. Doing that ten times across a subject changes how a student reads every question afterwards, and it costs nothing beyond the papers the department already hands out every week.

04

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: a Year 10 decision

  • Core and Foundation cap the grade; the cap is set before the examination
  • Headroom, not confidence, is the right test for a tier decision
  • Entries close months before the paper and the tier is fixed then
  • A strong lower-tier grade can beat a weak higher-tier one if the subject stops at sixteen

Tiering is the highest-stakes administrative decision of the IGCSE years and it is often taken without the family in the room. Core and Foundation cap the top grade available; Extended and Higher reach the full range but include harder content and less generous mark schemes. The school decides, usually late in Year 10, based on assessment evidence. Changing it afterwards is possible until final entries close and awkward after that.

The useful test is not confidence, it is headroom. A student scoring near the top of Core assessments is limited by the route rather than by ability, and that cap may close a sixth-form door nobody has mentioned yet. A student who is reaching the bottom of the Extended range under exam conditions may be better served by a strong Core grade than a weak Extended one, particularly if the subject is not continuing. Both arguments are legitimate and they point in opposite directions.

Bring the last two assessment papers to the subject teacher and ask directly what the tier is costing or protecting. If a short block of tutoring is worth buying in Year 10, it is the one that answers this question rather than the one that follows the decision. We would rather sell three diagnostic sessions in October of Year 10 than twenty remedial ones in April of Year 11, and the sequencing matters more than the total. Ask the school when its entry deadline falls, because the answer sets how long the decision stays open.

05

Past papers done properly, not just done

  • Sat to time, without notes, or it is not a past paper
  • Marked strictly against the published scheme, with nothing given for intention
  • Losses logged by type rather than by topic, so patterns appear
  • Board materials referenced and linked, never reproduced or distributed by us

Most students who say they have done past papers have read them. The difference between reading a paper and sitting one is most of the value. A paper sat under time, without notes, then marked against the published scheme by someone who applies it strictly, produces a list of specific losses. A paper worked through with the answers alongside produces a feeling of familiarity and no information at all.

The sequence that works is this. Sit the paper to time. Mark it hard, against the real scheme, giving nothing for intention. Record each loss by type, not by topic: method not shown, verb misread, unit wrong, timing, content missing. After three papers the pattern is obvious, and the pattern is what gets taught. A student who discovers that half their losses are timing will spend the next fortnight on pace rather than on content, which is the correct response and not the instinctive one. The instinctive response to a bad paper is to read more notes, and reading more notes is what produced the bad paper.

There is a copyright point worth stating. Past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents belong to the boards, and we do not reproduce or distribute them. They are referenced and linked from their official sources, and your school's department supplies them routinely. Any provider offering a download library of board materials or unreleased content is doing something it should not, and that is worth noticing before you trust the rest of its advice.

06

Science practicals when teaching happens online

  • Practical assessment arrangements belong to the school and the board, not to a tutor
  • Most practical marks on paper go to method reading, data handling and graphs
  • Those are paper skills and they are badly underpractised
  • Where the school has left a technique untaught, raise it with the department

This is the honest question for any online science arrangement and it deserves a direct answer. Practical skills in IGCSE science are assessed through the school's own arrangements, which vary by board and route, and the school owns that entirely. An online tutor does not and cannot deliver the practical component. What an online tutor can do is prepare a student for how practical skills are examined on paper, which is where most of the marks for those skills actually sit.

That preparation is specific: reading a method and identifying the variable that was controlled, spotting why a result is anomalous, recognising which apparatus gives the stated precision, drawing a table with units in the headings, plotting a graph with sensible scales and a line of best fit, and writing a conclusion that refers to the data rather than to expectation. Those are paper skills, they are heavily weighted, and students practise them far less than they practise content.

The work is done with the student's own laboratory records and real past questions on screen. Where the school's scheme of work has left a technique untaught, we say so and suggest the parent raise it with the department rather than attempting to substitute for a laboratory. A tutoring platform that implies it can replace practical work is overselling, and a parent is better served by knowing exactly which part of the job sits with the school, and by hearing it before the first invoice rather than after it.

07

What the Abu Dhabi market charges, and what a visit adds

Cheapest first, because that is the order a parent actually shops in. Budget online tuition, typically a university student, runs about AED 45 to 150 an hour: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. That tier is honest homework supervision and it is useful for a Year 8. It is not a mark-scheme specialist, and buying it for a Year 11 four weeks before a paper is the most common waste of money in this market.

Above that, a qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Subject specialists run AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-branded tuition reaches AED 500 to 650, where BartyED quotes AED 650. An in-home one-to-one visit including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500.

Set the two bands side by side and the in-home premium is the journey. It is small in Al Karamah, where the drive from most of the island is short, and large anywhere across the bridge. What it does not buy is a wider choice of teacher, which is the opposite of what a family needs when the subject is Additional Mathematics or second-language English. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; the lesson runs online, and the arithmetic above is the argument.

The series, the permit and the lines a tutor may not cross

  • June and November for Cambridge in the UAE; February/March is offered in India only
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November
  • The private tuition permit is free, valid two years, and held in the tutor's own name
  • A tutor gives feedback on the student's own work and never produces it

UAE candidates sit two series. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in June and November and offers the February/March series to India only, which is why Indian revision timetables found online are useless here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Provisional timetables are published well ahead and then revised, so take dates from the board's live timetable and confirm your school's Cambridge administrative zone with the exams officer, because each zone has its own version.

On who may teach, the UAE regulates private tutoring by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day turnaround. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you.

On what a tutor may do, the boundary is the same in every subject. A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has produced. Nobody here writes a coursework piece, a controlled assessment or an investigation, and a provider offering to is not a cheaper alternative but a malpractice risk carried by the student. Abu Dhabi adds one more rule: press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates school staff may not privately tutor students enrolled at their own school. Verify the current wording with ADEK.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Karamah

The districts around Al Karamah share its schools and its traffic, and the differences that matter are about when a session can start.

Al Mushrif

Adjacent, same catchment, same mock timetables. A tutor working across both districts is planning against one school calendar rather than two, which makes revision timing easier to coordinate.

Al Nahyan

North-east, denser housing and a wider spread of curricula. Subject requests here are less concentrated, and a student may be the only one in their street sitting a particular board.

Al Bateen

West along the shore, a short run away. Several island cohorts sit here, so Extended science and maths requests from Al Bateen look much like those from Al Karamah.

Al Zahiyah

The older downtown grid near Abu Dhabi Mall. Apartments rather than villas, so a quiet, fixed online hour matters more than the length of the session.

Khalifa City

Across the Khaleej Al Arabi towards the airport, with a term-time round trip of well over an hour. This is where an in-home travel premium stops making sense for a weekly arrangement.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Long bus routes along the Dubai road corridor. Students arrive home tired, so shorter, more frequent sessions work better than one long block.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A mainland community with a wide curriculum mix and the longest journeys in the sample. Families here are the most sensitive to a travel premium that buys no additional teaching.

Khalifa City and the Al Raha corridor

Large campuses carrying a substantial share of the emirate's IGCSE entries. Their mock timetables often differ from the island schools', which matters if a student is revising with a cousin on the other side of the bridge.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School

Saadiyat, Al Reem and Al Bateen

Newer island campuses, several running the Diploma in sixth form. A student moving there after Year 11 meets a different assessment style, and Extended grades are what open that door.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes and one marked paper

Syllabus codes from the statement of entry, the tier, and a recent marked paper with the breakdown. Those three things narrow the match faster than anything else, and they take five minutes to assemble from a past-paper cover and an email to the exams officer.

  2. 02

Free trial spent on the marked paper

The first session costs nothing and is used to classify the losses by type: method not shown, verb misread, units, timing, content missing. You should finish it with a ranked list, and that list is useful whether or not anything follows.

  3. 03

Agree the sequence and the slot

The tutor sets a teaching order from the audit and shares it in writing. The slot is fixed against the real week, including the mandatory Arabic, Islamic studies and social studies homework, and the Ramadan arrangement is agreed in advance rather than improvised.

  4. 04

Switch to timed papers before the series

Six to eight weeks out the format changes to one timed paper before each session, marked strictly to the published scheme. New content stops unless something critical is missing, because at that range accuracy and pace move a grade and new topics rarely do.

  5. 05

    Stop when the log flattens

If the error log stops producing new patterns and the student is working accurately to time, fewer sessions are the right recommendation and we will say so. Tuition that continues out of habit is money better spent on the next subject.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The syllabus is the plan

Teaching order comes from auditing the published syllabus against the student's own work, not from the textbook sequence. That produces a plan a parent can read and a student can see the end of, which is also why it survives a disappointing mock.

Matched by code and tier

The first filter is which board, which paper and which tier a tutor has taught recently. Distance from Al Karamah is not a criterion, because online delivery removes it, and removing it is what makes a genuine specialist available.

Command terms taught explicitly

The verb in the question is examinable and almost never taught as such. A session and a half on it recovers marks across every science and humanities paper, which is the best return available in IGCSE tutoring and the first thing we look at.

Board materials referenced, never reproduced

Past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents belong to Cambridge and Pearson. We link them from their official sources and do not host or distribute them, and a provider offering a download library is doing something worth noticing.

Rates on the page with sources

Every AED figure is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, and kept separate from our own arrangement. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, which is the gap this page closes.

Delivery and limits stated up front

Lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video; home visits are an India-only service. Practical assessment belongs to the school. Where we cannot help, the page says so rather than letting a parent find out in session two.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Karamah: your questions answered

Will a tutor come to our home in Al Karamah for IGCSE lessons?+

Not from IB Gram. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and all UAE lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. The in-home market in Abu Dhabi is real, with published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, so the option exists elsewhere. What the premium buys is the journey rather than better teaching, and from Al Karamah the drive is short enough that the premium is modest and the choice of tutor is the bigger variable.

How do I find out which IGCSE syllabus codes my child is entered for?+

They are printed on the statement of entry the school issues and on the front cover of every past paper the department distributes. The exams officer will confirm them in one email. It matters because 0580 and 4MA1 are different papers with different calculator rules, and 0500 and 0510 are different English qualifications altogether. A tutor working from the wrong code will teach the content competently and miss the examination behaviour, which is where most of the recoverable marks sit.

My son knows the science but keeps losing marks. What is going on?+

Almost always the command term. Explain questions answered with a description score about half, and suggest questions answered with a definition score nothing. Add working not shown, units dropped mid-calculation and the last two questions rushed, and that is four causes of lost marks that have nothing to do with knowing the science. All four are teachable in two or three sessions, and they recover marks across every paper rather than in one topic.

Should my daughter move from Core to Extended in Year 10?+

Test for headroom rather than confidence. Core and Foundation cap the top grade available, so a student sitting near the top of Core assessments is limited by the route rather than by ability, and that cap may close a sixth-form option nobody has discussed. A student who only reaches the bottom of the Extended range under timed conditions may do better with a strong Core grade. Take the last two assessment papers to the subject teacher and ask what the tier is costing.

What is the right way to use past papers for IGCSE revision?+

Sit the paper to time, without notes, then mark it strictly against the published scheme and give nothing for intention. Record each loss by type rather than by topic: method not shown, verb misread, unit wrong, timing, content missing. After three papers the pattern is visible, and the pattern is what should be taught. Reading papers with the answers alongside produces familiarity and no information, which is why so many students who have done past papers gain nothing from them.

If the lessons are online, who covers the IGCSE science practical work?+

The practical component belongs to the school and the board, and no tutor delivers it. What an online tutor prepares is how practical skills are examined on paper, which is where most of those marks sit: identifying controlled variables, spotting anomalous results, choosing apparatus with the stated precision, tabulating with units in the headings, plotting sensible scales and writing conclusions that refer to the data. Those are underpractised paper skills, and they are worked on using the student's own laboratory records.

When are the IGCSE examinations for a candidate in Abu Dhabi?+

UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Cambridge runs its IGCSE examinations in those two windows and offers the February/March series to India only, so an Indian timetable found online does not apply. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Both boards publish provisional timetables and both revise them, so take dates from the live official timetable and ask your school's exams officer which Cambridge administrative zone the centre belongs to, because each zone has its own version.

Can one child in Al Karamah sit Cambridge for maths and Edexcel for science?+

Yes, and it is reasonably common in Abu Dhabi, sometimes within one school. The hazard is revision material: a student working from a sibling's or a friend's resources may be practising for a different paper in the same subject. Keep a written list of the code for every subject and check revision resources against it. It also means a single tutor for all sciences is less likely to be the right answer than one specialist per board and subject.

What does an online IGCSE tutor cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

The market sorts into bands. Budget online tuition runs about AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online is roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists reach AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270. Those are the providers' own published figures. IB Gram begins with a free trial lesson and confirms its rate in the match conversation.

Is the cheapest tutoring tier ever the right choice?+

Yes, for the right job. A university student at the budget end is good value for a Year 8 who needs a homework habit, supervision and someone to explain fractions patiently. The mistake is buying that tier for a Year 11 six weeks from a paper, because the job then is strict marking against a published scheme and a ranked diagnosis, which is a different skill. Match the tier to the task and the cheap option is sometimes exactly right.

Do you supply past papers and mark schemes to students?+

No. Past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents are the boards' copyright material, and we reference and link them from their official sources rather than hosting or distributing them. Your child's department supplies them routinely, and the official sites carry the current syllabus. A provider offering a download library of board materials, or anything unreleased, is doing something it should not, which is worth weighing before trusting its advice on anything else.

Does a private tutor in Abu Dhabi need a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day turnaround. Tutoring privately without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat specific amounts quoted to you with caution.

How many IGCSE passes does the Ministry count for British-track equivalency?+

The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects. At least one page ranking for these searches states six subjects; the sourced figure is five. Verify the current requirement with the Ministry of Education directly. IB Gram describes the process and does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency.

Can a tutor help with a coursework or controlled assessment task?+

Only within the rules, and the rules are clear. A tutor can teach the technique, explain the published criteria, question the student's reasoning and give feedback on what the student has already written. A tutor cannot write, rewrite, restructure in their own words or edit a piece to completion. The school authenticates submitted work, so the consequence of crossing that line falls on the candidate. Any provider offering to produce the work should end your search rather than win it.

How quickly can an Extended science tutor be arranged for Al Karamah?+

Mainstream Extended maths and sciences are usually matched within a few days in term time. Smaller options such as Additional Mathematics, second-language English and computer science are thinner, and demand across everything concentrates in the weeks before a series. Where the right specialist is not free, we say so and offer a later weekday hour, a single diagnostic session the student can act on alone, or a waiting list with a date, rather than filling the slot with a mismatch.

Bring the codes, the tier and one marked paper

Everything useful on this page starts from three pieces of information: the syllabus codes, the tier, and one recently marked paper. With those, a specialist can tell you in a single session whether the problem is the command terms, the working, the units, the clock or the content, and how long each would take to fix. The trial lesson costs nothing and is spent on exactly that. Lessons for Al Karamah run online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to the school week. If the right specialist is not free, we will tell you and give you a date.
