IB Home Tutor in Al Rawdah

Families who search for an IB home tutor in Al Rawdah are usually weighing it against the same option in Al Mushrif or Al Karamah, and finding the quotes move while nothing educational does. This page explains what in-home tuition genuinely costs across these central Abu Dhabi districts, what the travel inside that price is buying, and why the answer lands in the same place whichever street you are on. Lessons here are delivered live, one-to-one, over video.

  • In-home market rates published with their source and date
  • Matched by Diploma course and level, not by driving distance
  • No home visits in the UAE; lessons are live video, one-to-one

IB & IGCSE in Al Rawdah

Three districts, three quotes, one educational answer

Al Rawdah sits in the middle of Abu Dhabi island, bordered by Al Mushrif and Al Karamah, a short run from the main school corridor. Ask three agencies for an in-home Diploma tutor at an Al Rawdah address, then ask the same three for an address ten minutes away, and the quotes will differ. Nothing about the Diploma differs. The same courses, the same papers, the same internal assessment deadlines, the same places marks are lost. What differs is the drive, and once that is visible the comparison a parent is actually making becomes clear.

That is why this page is built as a comparison rather than as a description. You already know what Al Rawdah looks like. What is harder to find out is the published market rate for an in-home visit against an online specialist, what a travel premium buys, whether the tutor in front of you is permitted to work, and whether the pool of people willing to drive here on a Tuesday evening actually contains anyone who has taught Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level. Those four questions have answers, and they do not change between Al Rawdah and Al Karamah.

Set the published bands side by side. In-home one-to-one tuition in this market is advertised at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, on Bestimate's 2026 rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. A qualified subject tutor working online is advertised at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. The gap between the columns is roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour, and that gap is the journey. For a central district like Al Rawdah the journey is short, which is precisely why the premium is harder to justify here than it would be for a family out past Al Samha.

The second comparison matters more and gets discussed less. An in-home tutor is drawn from the set of adults who will travel to your address at the hour you need. An online tutor is drawn from the set of adults who have taught your child's course. For a popular Standard Level subject those two sets overlap. For Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, for Diploma Physics internal assessments, or for Economics commentaries built on current articles, they often do not overlap at all, and no amount of convenience compensates for a tutor learning the course alongside the student.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and this page will not imply otherwise to match a search phrase. What we deliver into Al Rawdah is live one-to-one video tuition on Gulf Standard Time: a shared whiteboard, work annotated on the screen both people are reading, a session that starts at the minute it was booked, and a recording the student can replay before the homework. The comparison above is the argument for it, and a parent is entitled to make that comparison with real numbers rather than slogans.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The three IB programmes below each change what a tutor is being asked to do. A parent comparing formats should know which programme their child is in, because the case for a specialist strengthens sharply as the student moves up.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects over two years, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Most subjects carry an internal assessment worth a substantial share of the grade, and the school sets the draft deadlines. Subject grades run 1 to 7 and feed a 45-point total with up to three core points.

This is where format stops being a matter of taste. A Diploma student needs a tutor who has taught their specific course at their specific level, and in Abu Dhabi that person is frequently not within driving distance of Al Rawdah. A family insisting on an in-home arrangement for Higher Level work is choosing from a smaller pool, which is a real trade-off rather than a neutral preference.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to 5

Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked 0 to 8, with a Personal Project in the final year. There is no terminal external paper in the school-assessed route, so support is about securing understanding and communication rather than examination technique.

For MYP the local pool is broader, because the subject demand is less specialised. This is the stage where an in-home arrangement is easiest to defend on its own terms, particularly for a younger or easily distracted student, and a parent in Al Rawdah choosing that route is not making a mistake.

PYPAges 3-12

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led learning across transdisciplinary units with no external examinations. Any support at this stage is about fluency, reading and confidence, and the honest position is that most primary students do not need a paid tutor at all.

Where an Al Rawdah primary family does want help, short and infrequent beats weekly and open-ended. Be sceptical of a two-year plan sold for a nine-year-old, and more sceptical of a premium hourly rate attached to it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects below are the Diploma courses Al Rawdah families most often ask about, with the part of each that a general tutor struggles to cover. This is the list that decides whether proximity or specialism wins for your child.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, functions, proof and calculus, with a no-calculator Paper 1 and an Exploration worth 20%. Higher Level adds complex numbers, induction and differential equations. A tutor who has not taught AA HL cannot usefully prepare a student for Paper 3, which carries a fifth of the grade.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, data and statistics with technology permitted throughout, extending at Higher Level into chi-squared testing, the Poisson distribution and hypothesis testing. Explorations here usually rest on a real data set, so data-source checking is part of the work from the first week.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, fields and nuclear physics, with an individual investigation. Uncertainty handling and graph treatment carry marks students rarely practise, and the gap between calculating a value and explaining a mechanism is where Higher Level grades separate.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Stoichiometry, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium and organic chemistry, with an individual investigation. Organic reaction pathways and the mathematics inside equilibrium problems generate the most requests. An investigation question chosen too broadly cannot produce usable data in the time allowed.

Biology

HL and SL

A content-heavy course where command terms decide marks: describe, explain, outline, evaluate and discuss each want a different structure. Students who know the biology and write the wrong shape of answer lose marks that look mysterious on a report card.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, with internal assessment commentaries built on published news articles. Diagram marks are routinely forfeited through missing labels, and article selection is itself a skill with a deadline attached.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools and theories applied to real organisations, with a research project at Higher Level. The common failure is description where analysis and evaluation were asked for, which is a writing problem rather than a knowledge problem and responds well to feedback on the student's own work.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Textual analysis, a learner portfolio and oral components fixed in the school calendar. The most common waste of tutoring hours is reading additional texts instead of practising timed analysis of the ones already studied.

Psychology

HL and SL

Biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, with a simple experimental study as internal assessment. Marks are lost in methodology and ethics sections rather than in content, and that is teachable quickly by someone who has marked them before.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

DP core

Worth up to three points on the 45-point total, and run on interim deadlines set by the school. Support is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts; no part of either may be written for a student, and the supervisor signs to that effect.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery patterns, all live, one-to-one and online. Which one fits depends on the programme and on how close the nearest deadline is.

Weekly one-to-one by course and level

A fixed weekly slot with the same tutor, matched to the exact Diploma course and level. Sixty minutes suits Standard Level; ninety suits Higher Level, where extended questions do not fit into an hour. The topic order follows the school's scheme of work rather than a generic sequence.

  • Same tutor, same slot, on Gulf Standard Time
  • One written target per week
  • Recording available for replay before homework
  • Plan reviewed against an error log every six to eight weeks

Internal assessment and core coaching

Short blocks timed to the school's own draft deadlines for a subject investigation, the Extended Essay or the Theory of Knowledge essay. The tutor narrows the question, checks the level is right and gives criterion-level feedback on a draft the student wrote. Nothing is written or completed for the student.

  • Booked four to six weeks before the school's deadline
  • Scoped to a question the student can actually finish
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own text
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied material

Two-subject household scheduling

Back-to-back sessions for siblings or for one student taking two subjects, arranged on the same evening with no travel between them. This is the pattern where the format difference is most visible: an in-home arrangement for two subjects means two journeys or one compromise.

  • Consecutive slots on one evening
  • Different tutors for different courses where needed
  • One scheduling conversation rather than two
  • Easier to move as a block when the week changes

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Rawdah

01

The straight answer about home tutoring in Al Rawdah

  • In-home is a real market option at AED 180-500 an hour, travel included
  • IB Gram's UAE delivery is live online one-to-one, stated upfront
  • The pool of willing drivers is not the pool of course specialists
  • Physical presence matters most for the youngest students

In-home Diploma tutoring exists in Al Rawdah and plenty of families use it. The published market rate is AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, on Bestimate's figures of AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages advertised in this market run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Those are real options and a parent choosing one is not being foolish.

What IB Gram offers is not that. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Our delivery into Al Rawdah is live one-to-one video tuition on Gulf Standard Time. Saying this plainly near the top of the page is deliberate, because the alternative is letting a parent read three screens of persuasion before discovering the format.

The case for the online format is not primarily price, although it usually is cheaper. It is the size of the pool. An in-home tutor is selected from the adults who will drive to Al Rawdah at five on a weekday. An online tutor is selected from the adults who have taught the course. For Standard Level Business Management those groups may overlap; for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or a Physics internal assessment, they frequently do not, and course experience is not a quality a short drive can substitute for.

There is one thing an in-home tutor does better and it deserves saying. Physical presence holds the attention of a young or distractible student in a way a screen does not, and it reads a page over a shoulder without being asked. For a Primary Years student that can be decisive. For a DP2 student working Paper 3 under timing, the decisive factor is whether the tutor has marked that paper before.

02

Al Rawdah against Al Mushrif and Al Karamah, line by line

The three districts share housing types, school catchments and traffic patterns. A Diploma student in any of them is likely to attend one of the same handful of schools, meet the same internal assessment deadlines, and lose marks in the same places. On the educational questions the comparison returns identical answers, which is worth knowing before paying a premium framed as local knowledge.

Where differences appear, they are operational. Al Rawdah's position between two neighbours makes journeys short in both directions. Al Mushrif's school density means a tutor can sometimes chain two visits, which occasionally shows up as a slightly lower quote. Al Karamah behaves almost identically to Al Rawdah. Push further out, to Al Bateen or across the bridge to Al Reem, and the journey lengthens enough to change both the price and the reliability of the start time.

A parent can test this directly. Request an in-home quote for your own address and for a friend's address in the next district, with the same subject, level and session length. If the two differ by more than a rounding, ask what the difference is for. The answer will be travel, and it is legitimate for a tutor to charge for their time in a car; it is just not a cost that teaches your child anything.

The practical conclusion for all three districts is the same. Decide the format on the strength of the subject match first, then on cost, then on convenience. If the best available match for your child's course happens to live in Al Mushrif and will travel, that is a good outcome. If the best match for Higher Level Chemistry does not live in Abu Dhabi at all, a short drive is not worth the downgrade.

What the travel premium costs in central Abu Dhabi and what it buys

Take the two published columns and subtract. A qualified subject tutor working online is advertised at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. An in-home one-to-one visit is advertised at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350. Across the tiers the premium works out at roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour, and at the specialist end TutorChase publishes AED 270 while Bestimate puts specialist work at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, with premium examiner-led tuition reaching AED 500 to 650 and above on BartyED's published rate.

What the premium buys is a person in the room. What it does not buy is more teaching time, better course knowledge, or a wider choice of tutor. For a short central journey it is a modest sum; across a two-year Diploma at one session a week it becomes a real line in a household budget, and it is the one line that produces no learning at all.

There is also a hidden cost that does not appear in the hourly rate. A tutor travelling to Al Rawdah at 4.45pm is subject to the same traffic as everybody else, so a booked hour can start late and still end on time. Over a term, a pattern of fifteen-minute late starts is several hours of tuition paid for and not received, which no invoice ever itemises.

Two honesty notes about these figures. They are market rates read from named published sources in October 2026, not IB Gram prices; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson, when course, level and session length are known. And a higher rate is not evidence of a better match: premium pricing applied to a wrong diagnosis is an expensive way to reach the same gap, which is why the first lesson here is a diagnosis rather than a sales call.

Format against format: the factors that decide a Diploma outcome

A fair comparison needs more than cost. The table below sets the two formats against the factors that actually move a Diploma grade: who is available to teach, whether the session happens when it was booked, what can be reviewed afterwards, and how quickly a missed lesson is replaced. On some of these the formats are close. On tutor pool and reviewability they are not.

Reviewability is the most underrated. Most forgetting happens between the lesson and the homework, which is often two or three days later. A recording and an annotated shared document mean a student can return to the exact moment a method was explained. When a tutor leaves a house, the explanation leaves with them, and what remains is whatever the student wrote down while trying to keep up.

Replacement matters in an examination term. If a tutor is unwell in the week before a mock, an online arrangement usually finds an alternative slot with the same or another qualified tutor within days. An in-home arrangement needs someone free and able to travel, which in practice means the session is lost. Over a term that is a continuity question rather than an inconvenience.

None of this makes in-home tuition a bad choice for every family. It makes it a choice with a specific profile: better for young students who need presence, worse for specialised Higher Level work, more expensive per hour of actual teaching, and more fragile under traffic and illness. A parent in Al Rawdah who reads that profile and still prefers a person in the room has made an informed decision, which is the point of publishing it.

What the local pool can hold, and what it cannot

Abu Dhabi is a smaller tutoring market than Dubai, and the Diploma is a narrow qualification within it. Put those together and some courses simply do not have a local in-home specialist available at the hour a family wants. Pages that imply otherwise are making a promise the market cannot keep, and a parent discovers it in week three rather than before paying.

The pattern is predictable. Standard Level mathematics, Business Management and English have the broadest coverage. Higher Level sciences narrow sharply, particularly around internal assessment season, when the same small group of specialists is in demand across every school at once. Economics commentaries, Psychology methodology and Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 are the three requests most likely to find nobody free locally.

Our position on this is to disclose it. When no specialist for a course is available, you are told, given an expected wait, and offered the alternatives in writing: another qualified tutor on the same course in a different slot, a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course on Gulf Standard Time and disclosed before booking, shorter and more frequent sessions until the preferred slot clears, or waiting. Several competitor sites route UAE families to non-UAE numbers without mentioning it; the syllabus is the same wherever the tutor sits, but the parent should be told.

The free trial lesson is where this becomes concrete. One full lesson with the matched tutor, no card required, used to establish whether the course and level are right, where the marks are going, and whether these two people can work together. If the match is wrong we change it, and if your child needs three sessions rather than thirty you should hear that in the first conversation rather than the tenth.

Academic honesty: the boundary that protects the Diploma

Every Diploma subject carries work that must be the student's own, and the IB treats breaches as malpractice with consequences that reach the whole Diploma rather than one grade. That makes the boundary around tutoring a safety matter rather than a policy footnote, and it is one place where this SERP contains genuinely dangerous offers.

What a tutor may do is substantial. Discuss and narrow a research question. Explain a technique the student then applies themselves. Check that the mathematics or the methodology sits at the level of the course. Read a draft the student wrote and give feedback against the published criteria. Teach the difference between describing a result and evaluating it. Help a student build a working schedule so the draft is finished before the school's deadline.

What a tutor may not do is equally clear. No part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project may be produced for a student. A tutor does not supply calculations, does not rewrite paragraphs into their own words, and does not edit a piece to completion. The supervisor signs to the authenticity of the student's work, so a breach places the student's own declaration in question.

One competitor in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright. A family should treat that as disqualifying rather than convenient: it exposes the student to a malpractice finding and the school to an investigation. We also do not publish or supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, because reproducing them is a copyright matter. Those materials should be reached through the board's own site or the school.

Verifying an in-home tutor in Abu Dhabi before you let them in

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit; it is free and lasts two years
  • Distrust any quoted fine amount; no schedule is published
  • Do not engage your child's own classroom teacher privately
  • Treat regulator-approved tutors as marketing language rather than a credential

If you do choose an in-home arrangement in Al Rawdah, there are checks worth making, and they are quick. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

MoHRE's own service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, listing no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any specific amount quoted at you is unverified and should be treated as such.

In Abu Dhabi there is one more rule. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff are reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it, and in the meantime do not arrange paid private tuition with your child's own classroom teacher however convenient it appears.

Finally, be alert to borrowed authority. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no tutoring company should imply otherwise. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the steps and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific thing, and it is not what an agency means when it calls its tutors regulator-approved.

08

Who regulates what, and where a parent should actually look

Education regulation in the UAE is emirate by emirate, and knowing which body governs your child's school saves time when something needs raising. For Al Rawdah the body is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and covers Al Ain as well as Abu Dhabi city.

Elsewhere: Dubai is regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority; Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not only inspection sits with the emirate regulator.

There is also a federal baseline worth knowing. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That is the rule behind the mandatory subjects that sit alongside the Diploma on your child's timetable, and it is the reason those lessons cannot simply be dropped to make room for extra Higher Level study.

The practical instruction: read inspection ratings on the regulator's own site, ask the school for its curriculum and assessment calendar in writing, and treat any claim of regulator endorsement by a tutoring company as a reason for more scepticism rather than less. These bodies publish directly, and the published version is always better than a summary on a commercial page.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Rawdah

The notes below compare Al Rawdah with its neighbours on the only three things that change a tutoring arrangement: the length of the school run, the first realistic session slot, and how far an in-home tutor would have to travel.

Al Rawdah

Central island district between Al Mushrif and Al Karamah. Mixed villa and apartment housing with short runs to the main school corridor, so a 4.30pm start is usually achievable and an in-home tutor's travel is genuinely brief.

Al Mushrif

Immediate neighbour with several long-established private schools and a mixed British and IB intake. Rates quoted here should match Al Rawdah's; a difference is travel pricing rather than anything educational.

Al Karamah

On the other side of Al Rawdah, similar housing and the same school catchments. The useful comparison point: two quotes for these two districts that differ materially tell you something about the agency rather than the market.

Al Bateen

West towards the marina, more villa-led, longer runs. The first workable slot shifts later into the evening, which matters more for an in-home arrangement that has to absorb the drive as well.

Al Mushrif Gardens and Al Nahyan

Dense residential areas sharing the central school network. Multi-child households are common, and back-to-back sessions work cleanly when no travel sits between them.

Al Reem Island

One bridge crossing out. At 5pm that crossing is the single largest component of an in-home tutor's journey, and it is pure cost with no teaching attached.

Khalifa City

Mainland, towards the airport, with its own school cluster. Several schools there finish earlier than island schools, which opens a 3.30pm slot an Al Rawdah family rarely has.

Saadiyat Island

Premium international schools and a longer commute from the centre. Diploma cohorts are large enough that a student can usually find a classmate on the same course at the same level for shared revision.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Rawdah

Al Rawdah, Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

These three districts feed the same set of central schools, which is the structural reason their tutoring markets are indistinguishable. Students we support attend schools in this cluster. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings; read a rating there rather than on any tutoring site.

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the level and the school

Which Diploma subjects, at which levels, at which school, and what the last marked piece of work said. A photograph of annotated work is more useful than a description, because the marker has usually already named the problem.

  2. 02

We match on course experience first

The tutor is chosen for having taught that course at that level. Distance does not enter the calculation, because the lesson is a video call. Where the right specialist is not free, you get the wait and the alternatives rather than a near-enough substitute.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, used as a diagnosis

One full lesson, no card required, no block of hours bought first. The tutor finds where the marks are actually going and says what they found, including when the honest answer is a handful of sessions rather than a term.

  4. 04

A short written plan, reviewed on evidence

Topics in priority order with an error log behind them, built backwards from the school's own deadlines where those are known. The plan names what the student does between sessions, which is where most of the improvement happens.

  5. 05

Review, then reduce or stop deliberately

Every six to eight weeks the log is compared with where it started. When the recurring failures have gone, the recommendation is fewer sessions or none. Continuing by default is the most common way tutoring money is wasted.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The in-home comparison made with real numbers

Published market bands, with the source and the date attached, so a parent can see that the gap between formats is travel. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all, and two quote in a currency UAE families do not transact in.

Matched by course, not by driving distance

The pool of adults who will drive to Al Rawdah is not the pool who have taught Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Choosing from the second group is the decision that most affects whether the hours turn into marks.

Delivery stated before the persuasion

Lessons are live, one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service runs only in India. You know the format in the first paragraph rather than the tenth.

The academic-honesty line drawn explicitly

A tutor teaches, explains and gives feedback on work the student wrote. No internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay is produced here. One competitor in this market sells completed Internal Assessments, which puts a student's whole Diploma at risk.

No borrowed regulator authority

We hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We explain what those bodies do so that a parent can see which claims are impossible.

Availability disclosed in writing

If no specialist for a course is free, you receive the expected wait and the alternatives. Where a tutor is based outside the UAE, you are told before booking rather than after the first invoice.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Rawdah: your questions answered

Can I actually get a tutor to come to our house in Al Rawdah?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Independent tutors and agencies in Abu Dhabi do provide it, at published market rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, and monthly packages advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. What we deliver into Al Rawdah is live one-to-one video tuition on Gulf Standard Time, matched to your child's Diploma course and level.

Why would an online tutor suit a Diploma student better than a local one?+

Because of who is in each pool. An in-home tutor is selected from the adults willing to drive to your address at the hour you need. An online tutor is selected from the adults who have taught your child's course at their level. For Standard Level Business Management those groups may overlap. For Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, a Physics internal assessment or Economics commentaries, they often do not, and course experience is not something a short drive can replace.

Do in-home rates in Al Rawdah differ from Al Mushrif or Al Karamah?+

Slightly, and the difference is travel rather than teaching. These three districts share housing types, school catchments and traffic patterns, so a Diploma student in any of them meets the same courses, deadlines and mark losses. A tutor able to chain two visits in a school-dense area may quote marginally less. Online rates do not vary by street at all, which is a useful control: if a quote moves between two central addresses, you now know what moved it.

How much of an in-home quote is the journey?+

Roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour depending on tier, comparing published bands. A qualified subject tutor online is advertised at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, while in-home one-to-one runs AED 180 to 500 with travel included and Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350. At the specialist end TutorChase publishes AED 270 and Bestimate puts specialist work at AED 200 to 450 or more. These are market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

What is the hidden cost of a tutor arriving late because of traffic?+

A booked hour that starts fifteen minutes late and ends on time is forty-five minutes of teaching paid at the full rate, and no invoice itemises it. Across a term of weekly sessions that pattern adds up to several hours bought and not received. It is the cost nobody quotes, and it is structural rather than anybody's fault: a tutor driving across the island at 4.45pm faces the same roads as everyone else.

Is a screen a problem for a teenager who struggles to concentrate?+

It can be, and that is the honest limit of the format. Physical presence holds attention and reads a page over a shoulder in a way video does not, which matters most for younger and more distractible students. For a DP2 student working extended questions under timing, the stronger predictor of progress is whether the tutor has taught and marked that course. Where attention is the main problem, shorter and more frequent sessions usually work better than longer ones.

What happens to a lesson if the tutor is unwell in mock week?+

With an online arrangement the slot is usually refilled within the week, either with the same tutor at a different time or with another qualified tutor on the same course. With an in-home arrangement a replacement has to be free and able to travel, so in practice the session is lost. In an examination term that is a continuity issue rather than an inconvenience, because the weeks before a mock are the ones that produce the predicted grade.

Can a tutor help with my child's Diploma internal assessment at all?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor can discuss and narrow the research question, explain a technique the student then applies, check that the work sits at course level, and give criterion-level feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor cannot produce any part of it, supply the calculations, rewrite paragraphs or edit it to completion. The supervisor signs to authenticity, so a breach puts the student's own declaration in question and can reach the whole Diploma rather than one grade.

A company offered to supply a finished Internal Assessment. Is that legitimate?+

No, and it is a reason to walk away. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Submitting purchased work is malpractice under IB rules, with consequences that can extend to the entire Diploma rather than a single subject, and it places the school in the position of having certified something untrue. Legitimate support is teaching, process coaching and feedback on the student's own writing, and any provider unwilling to describe its service in those terms has told you what it is.

Do private tutors in Abu Dhabi have to be permitted, and is the permit expensive?+

They do, and it is free. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it costs nothing, there is no innocent reason for a working tutor not to hold one, and individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Why should I be suspicious of a tutor advertised as regulator approved?+

Because the approvals being implied are specific things issued to specific entities. ADEK licenses and accredits private schools. A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval, a six-month completion window and annual renewal. Neither of those makes an individual tutor approved. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and any company claiming such a status should be asked to produce the number.

Which body do I contact if I have a problem with the school itself?+

For Al Rawdah, ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and publishes its own inspection ratings. Dubai families go to KHDA, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and families in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the Ministry of Education. Read ratings and policies on the regulator's own site rather than on a commercial page.

Can one tutor take two of my children on the same evening?+

Often yes, and online delivery makes it straightforward: two consecutive slots with no travel between them, and different tutors for different courses where the subjects need it. An in-home arrangement for two children in different courses means either two journeys or one tutor stretched across both, which is where quality usually slips. Ask which courses and levels any tutor has actually taught before agreeing to a shared booking, rather than assuming competence transfers between subjects.

What if the Higher Level specialist we need is not available in Abu Dhabi?+

You are told, and given the alternatives in writing: another qualified tutor on the same course at a different time, a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course on Gulf Standard Time and disclosed before booking, shorter and more frequent sessions until the preferred slot clears, or a named wait. Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 are the requests most likely to find nobody locally free, particularly during internal assessment season when every school needs the same people at once.

Compare the pool, not the postcode

If you are weighing an IB home tutor in Al Rawdah against the online alternative, the comparison worth making is between the group of adults who will drive to your street and the group who have taught your child's course. Send us the subjects, the levels, the school and the last marked piece of work, and we will match a Diploma specialist on course experience and tell you honestly what is achievable in the time available. The first lesson is free. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we offer only in India.
