IB Home Tutor in Al Karamah

Most families searching for an IB home tutor in Al Karamah are not shopping; they are reacting to a date. A mock result, an internal assessment deadline, a report that arrived two weeks before the holidays. So this page is organised by the calendar rather than by claims: what this term owes, what the next eight weeks can realistically fix, and how a Diploma year counts backwards from the May session. Lessons for Al Karamah run online, one-to-one, over live video.

  • Planned backwards from the session your child is sitting
  • Internal assessment deadlines mapped before the first lesson
  • One-to-one over live video, never a home visit in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Al Karamah

Work out what the date demands before you work out who to hire

Al Karamah sits inland on the Abu Dhabi island, next to Al Mushrif and a few minutes from the schools most of its families use. It is a quiet, established district, and its Diploma students are mostly in their second year by the time a parent starts searching. That timing is not an accident. The Diploma front-loads teaching and back-loads consequences: Year 12 feels manageable, and then internal assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay and mock examinations all land inside one twelve-week stretch of Year 13.

Which means the first useful question is not who to hire. It is what the next eight weeks have to achieve. A student with one weak Higher Level subject and no internal assessment pending needs a different plan from a student holding three unfinished drafts and a mock timetable. Both are common in this district and only one of them is a teaching problem. The other is a sequencing problem, and hiring a subject specialist for it wastes money that would be better spent on two sessions of planning.

The honest market picture matters here too. In-home tuition in Abu Dhabi is real, widely advertised and priced accordingly: published rates run from around AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is included. That premium pays for the journey, not the teaching. In Al Karamah the drive is short, so the premium is modest; from Khalifa City it is an hour of somebody's evening. A family deciding where the money goes should see that arithmetic rather than be sold around it.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Al Karamah. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and that is stated on every country page on this site. For UAE families the lesson is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own drafts and papers on screen, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time and shifted after iftar during Ramadan. The trade is physical presence for specialist choice, and for Diploma-level work that trade is usually worth making.

What follows is the calendar version of a tutoring page. A term-by-term map of what each stage of the Diploma owes, the session counted backwards from results, the internal assessment crunch described as it actually arrives, what mock season in Abu Dhabi is for, how Ramadan moves the revision window, and an eight-week plan sorted by where a student is starting. Take the part that matches your date and ignore the rest. If you only read one section, read the eight-week table, because it is the one that says plainly what each starting point can and cannot expect, including the cases where the right advice is to stop rescuing one subject and protect the other five.

At a glance

  • Year 13 concentrates internal deadlines, the Extended Essay and mocks into one stretch
  • UAE schools sit the May session; no IB dates are published here without a school or ibo.org source
  • In-home rates in this market run AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included
  • Eight weeks is enough to fix accuracy and sequencing, rarely enough to rebuild a course
  • All Al Karamah lessons are online and one-to-one; home visits are India-only
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The three IB programmes behave differently against a calendar, which is the only thing this page cares about. Each is described in terms of what its assessment rhythm does to a family's year in Abu Dhabi.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

IB Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations and reporting built around learner attributes rather than percentages. The calendar pressure here is the exhibition in the final year, which arrives with a research expectation most ten-year-olds have never met. Support at this stage is about study habits, reading stamina and number fluency, not about examination technique.

Al Karamah families often have a primary child in an IB continuum school and an older one on a different route entirely, because the schools within reach of this district split between the two. That makes the household calendar more crowded than either programme alone suggests, and it is worth mapping both before committing to a weekly slot.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, assessed through tasks spread across the year rather than through terminal papers. The calendar pressure is continuous and low-grade: there is almost always a task due. Students who do not read the criterion a task is assessing lose marks all year without ever failing to understand the content.

The Middle Years Programme ends just as the Diploma option form appears, so the final year doubles as a selection year. A Year 11 student in this district is often choosing between the Diploma and a linear route at a different school, and the decision deserves evidence rather than instinct. Ask for the criteria rubrics; schools rarely offer them unprompted.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the creativity, activity, service requirement, assessed through internally marked work across both years and external papers at the end. The deadline load is the defining feature. Most Year 13 students who ask for help need triage across subjects before they need teaching inside one.

UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no IB examination or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and a date a family books flights around has to come from the school's IB coordinator or ibo.org directly. Internal deadlines are set by the school and are the ones that actually move.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Al Karamah families ask about most, each described by what it demands at this point in the year rather than by its syllabus in general.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency, with the exploration carrying a fifth of the grade. The exploration is the calendar item: it is due long before the papers and it is the thing students postpone. Higher Level adds a third paper rewarding unfamiliar problems rather than recall.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with the graphic display calculator assumed throughout. Calculator technique is a learnable skill that students assume they already have. The exploration here lends itself to real data, which is a genuine advantage if the topic is chosen early and a liability if it is not.

Physics

HL and SL

Extended responses that ask for explanation rather than calculation, plus practical and data-analysis skills that are consistently underprepared. The internal assessment needs a workable research question months before the write-up, and a weak question cannot be rescued by good analysis later.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics and the arithmetic slips that cost more than conceptual gaps. Most internal assessment marks are lost on methodology and evaluation rather than on chemistry. A tutor teaches the criteria and reads drafts; the student designs and writes the work.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume plus command-term discipline: describe, explain, outline and evaluate are worth several grades across a paper. Students who revise by rereading notes plateau early. The repair is answering past questions and checking which verb the mark scheme was actually rewarding.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools applied to real organisations, with the Higher Level research project needing primary or secondary material secured early. Students lose marks by describing a company instead of analysing a decision. The calendar risk is choosing an organisation that will not supply usable information.

History

HL and SL

Source work, essay structure and the internal assessment investigation, which requires a question narrow enough to answer in the word limit. The investigation is a term-long job that students routinely start in the final fortnight, and that is where most of the lost marks come from.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy paired with evaluation. A faultless diagram without explanation scores poorly, and so does fluent prose without a diagram. The internal assessment commentaries are dated to published articles, so the deadline work is finding suitable articles early rather than writing quickly.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the unseen analysis paper reward structure under time pressure more than familiarity with the texts. Students who know the works well still lose marks by not building an argument. Preparation is rehearsal against a clock, not more reading.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

IB core

Two components assessed largely on the quality of the question. A vague research question produces a capped essay however well written. Support means interrogating the question, teaching referencing, and giving feedback on drafts the student has produced themselves.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, matched to where in the year a family is rather than to a package price. All run online, one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

Deadline triage block

Two or three sessions used to map every pending internal deadline across all six subjects, rank them by weight and proximity, and decide what gets done when. It is the cheapest useful thing a Year 13 family can buy, and it frequently reveals that the subject the parent was worried about is not the urgent one.

  • Every internal assessment, draft date and mock plotted on one sheet
  • Ranked by assessment weight and by how far the work has gone
  • Ends with a week-by-week plan the student owns

Weekly subject support

One subject, one fixed hour, same tutor across the block. This is the format for a student who is coping overall and losing marks in one place. The topic order comes from a marked paper or a criterion-marked task, and it is revised each time new evidence arrives rather than on a fixed syllabus march.

  • Sequence set by where marks were actually lost
  • A written note after each session naming the practice task
  • Reviewed against the next mock rather than against session impressions

Eight-week examination run

Two sessions a week in the final stretch, each built on one timed paper marked to the published criteria. New content stops unless something critical is missing. The work is accuracy, pace and question choice, because at that range those move a grade and fresh topics almost never do.

  • One timed paper completed before each session
  • An error log kept so repeated losses become visible
  • Final two weeks spent on question selection and timing, not new material

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Karamah

01

What the next eight weeks can actually achieve

Eight weeks is a real amount of time and a limited one. It is enough to repair accuracy, fix a technique that is leaking marks on every paper, finish a stalled internal assessment draft, or raise a grade where the content is understood and the execution is not. It is not enough to rebuild a two-year Higher Level course from a weak base, and a provider who tells a family otherwise in April is selling hope. Knowing which of those two situations you are in is the single most valuable thing a diagnostic session produces.

The honest version depends on the starting point. A student losing marks to presentation, rounding, command terms and timing can gain substantially in eight weeks, because those are learnable routines rather than knowledge gaps. A student who cannot access half the Higher Level syllabus needs a different conversation, which might be about dropping to Standard Level if the school still allows it, or about accepting a realistic grade and protecting the other five subjects. Both conversations are better had early.

The table below sets out what each starting point can reasonably expect from an eight-week block. It is deliberately unflattering in places. A page that promises the same outcome from every starting position is useless for planning, and planning is the entire purpose of the eight-week window. No tutor, however experienced, can guarantee a grade, and any provider offering one should be treated with real scepticism.

AN EIGHT-WEEK BLOCK BY STARTING POINT - WHAT IS AND IS NOT REALISTIC

02

The Diploma year counted backwards, term by term

Families plan forwards and the Diploma runs backwards. Everything is dated from the examination session, and by the time an external paper is sat, most of the internal grade is already fixed. That is why a Year 13 parent in February is working with far less room than the twelve remaining weeks suggest, and why a Year 12 parent in February has more room than they realise. The structure, rather than any date, is what a family needs to see.

Working back from the session: external papers come last. Before them sits the final revision stretch, and before that the school's mock window, which exists to diagnose rather than to predict. Before that the internal assessment deadlines fall, usually clustered, because every subject wants its coursework in before mocks. Before those, the Extended Essay progresses through a question, a supervisor meeting, a first draft and a final submission. And before all of it, in the first term of Year 12, sit the subject and level choices that determine how hard everything afterwards will be.

Two Abu Dhabi specifics change this picture. Schools here are inspected by ADEK, and inspection windows occupy staff attention at particular points in the year, which is not a reason to panic but is a reason not to expect rapid feedback in those weeks. And Ramadan moves earlier each year, which means the month lands at a different point in the Diploma cycle each time: some years it sits in the internal assessment crunch, others in the revision run. Plan the slot for the month before it begins.

03

Why internal deadlines bite harder than examinations

  • Internal deadlines are school-set, so they move, cluster and collide
  • The nearest-deadline strategy produces a term of half-finished work
  • One sheet with every deadline on it beats another hour of subject teaching
  • Behind on coursework means absent from lessons, which shows up in the mock

Parents worry about papers and students are broken by coursework. The reason is arithmetic. Internal assessment carries a meaningful share of the grade in most subjects, the deadlines are set internally rather than by the IB, and they are therefore the ones that slip, cluster and collide. A Year 13 in Al Karamah can easily face a chemistry write-up, an economics commentary, a maths exploration and an Extended Essay revision inside three weeks, each set by a different teacher who is unaware of the others.

The failure mode is predictable. The student does the one with the nearest deadline, submits it half finished, and starts the next one already behind. Nothing in that sequence is a knowledge problem, and buying subject tutoring to solve it is buying the wrong thing. What helps is a single sheet with every deadline, every draft date and every mock on it, ranked by weight and by how far the work has gone. Two sessions produce that sheet, and it usually changes what the family thought the priority was.

There is a second, quieter cost. Students who are behind on coursework stop attending to teaching, because the urgent work crowds out the important work, and a term of that leaves gaps that surface in the mock. Catching the sequencing problem early protects the teaching as well as the deadlines. This is the part of Diploma support that no competitor page in this market describes, and it is the part that most reliably changes an outcome.

04

Home tutoring in Al Karamah: what the market charges, and what travel buys

In-home tutoring is a real and substantial market in Abu Dhabi, so the fair thing is to price it properly rather than dismiss it. Published rates for a one-to-one visit including travel run from about AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors quoted between AED 200 and 500. Monthly in-home packages in the market sit at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those figures belong to the providers who published them.

Compare that with a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and a specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. The gap between the in-home and online bands is travel: the drive, the fuel, and the session that cannot be refilled when a family cancels at five o'clock. In Al Karamah the drive is short, so that premium is small. From the mainland communities it is the largest line in the price.

The thing travel does not buy is teaching quality, and on a calendar-driven page that matters. A travelling tutor has to fit inside a radius and inside the traffic, which shrinks the pool of people who have actually taught the Higher Level component your child is failing. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and for Al Karamah the lesson runs online instead. The case for it is in the comparison table rather than in adjectives.

05

What a mock is for, and how Abu Dhabi families misread it

  • Ask for the marked script, not just the grade
  • Losses concentrated at the end of a paper mean timing, not knowledge
  • The week after mock results is the most productive tutoring week in the year
  • A strong mock means on course, because the course is not finished yet

A mock examination is a diagnostic instrument that families routinely treat as a prediction. The grade on the front is the least informative part of it. What matters is the mark breakdown by question and by criterion, because that is what tells a tutor where the marks went. A student with a grade 4 who lost most of it to timing on the last two questions is in a completely different position from a student with a grade 4 spread evenly across the paper, and the plan for each is different.

Schools in this emirate usually run mocks about a term before the session, which is late enough to be realistic and early enough to act on. The first week after results is the most productive tutoring week of the year, and it is routinely wasted on disappointment. Bring the marked script rather than the grade. A specialist reading the script will produce a ranked list of losses in twenty minutes, and that list is actionable in a way that a grade never is.

The second misreading is treating a strong mock as a finish line. Diploma mocks are typically sat before every topic has been taught, so a good grade in February says the student is on course rather than done. The useful response to a strong mock is to sharpen question choice and attack the hardest paper, not to reduce the work. Either way, the mock is evidence, and evidence beats four weeks of impressions about how sessions are going.

06

Ramadan, Eid and where the revision window actually goes

  • Ramadan sits at a different point in the Diploma cycle each year
  • Agree post-iftar timing before the month begins, not in its first week
  • A short summer block before the second year has no competing deadlines
  • After the session is finished, the right recommendation is to stop

Ramadan moves roughly eleven days earlier each year, so it does not sit at a fixed point in the Diploma cycle. In some years it lands in the internal assessment crunch, in others in the final revision run, and the planning consequences are different in each case. School hours shorten, family routines move later, and the genuinely productive study window often sits after iftar rather than in the afternoon when a tired student is fasting.

The practical approach is to decide the schedule before the month starts. Sessions can shift to post-iftar timing for the whole month and return afterwards, and students who agree that in advance keep their momentum. Those who improvise it usually lose the first fortnight and then try to recover it during Eid, when nobody is working. Online delivery makes the shift easy, because a nine o'clock session costs no one a drive across the island.

Eid and the long summer break raise a separate question: should a Diploma student work through them. For a student entering their second year, a short block over the summer on the hardest Higher Level subject is one of the highest-return things available, because it is the only period with no competing deadlines. For a student who has just finished the session, the answer is no. Rest is part of the plan, and a provider who sells August sessions to a student who has already sat their papers is selling to the parent's anxiety.

Who is permitted to teach your child in Abu Dhabi

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page for private tutor licensing lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website or e-services system.

Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, which is why no amount should be quoted at you; a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source. Asking a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit is entirely reasonable, and the permit is held in the individual's own name rather than by an agency on their behalf.

Abu Dhabi adds a layer. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff indicates that teachers may not provide paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the current wording with ADEK before relying on it. Beyond the rule there is a plain conflict: the person marking your child's internal assessment should not be paid to prepare it with them.

Academic honesty when the deadline is three days away

  • Teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own draft is inside the rules
  • Writing, rewriting or finishing a draft is outside them, and the student carries the risk
  • Triage under pressure is legitimate help and usually the most valuable kind
  • Any provider offering to produce assessed work should end the conversation

The pressure point for integrity is not a student's character; it is a Tuesday with two drafts due on Thursday. That is when a service offering to finish the work looks reasonable, and at least one page competing for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright. The consequence does not land on the provider. The school authenticates the work, the board treats submitted work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the student's diploma is what is at risk.

The workable boundary is this. A tutor may teach the skills a component needs, explain the published criteria, interrogate a research question until it is answerable, demonstrate referencing, and read a draft the student has written and say where it does not yet meet the criterion. A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure in their own words, supply paragraphs, invent data or edit a draft to completion. The test is whether the words and the thinking remain the candidate's own.

In a deadline crunch the most useful honest help is triage rather than production. Deciding which component gets the remaining hours, cutting a bloated draft back to what the criteria reward, and accepting a lower mark on one piece to protect two others is real support and it is entirely legitimate. We would rather have that conversation and lose the sale than be in the business of producing coursework, and saying so on the page is more use to a parent than saying it in the terms.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Karamah

Al Karamah shares a school calendar with the districts around it, and the differences between them are mostly about travel time and when a session can start.

Al Mushrif

Immediately adjacent and in the same catchment. Mock timetables and internal deadlines tend to be identical for students from both districts, so a tutor working across the pair is planning against one calendar rather than two.

Al Nahyan

A few minutes north-east, denser and more mixed in curriculum. Diploma numbers are smaller here than in the villa districts, so a Year 13 in Al Nahyan has fewer classmates sitting the same papers to revise with.

Al Bateen

West along the shore, and the district whose Diploma cohorts most resemble this one's. Several second-year students here carry the same Higher Level combinations, which makes shared mock timing a useful planning signal.

Saadiyat Island

Fifteen minutes out, considerably more at pickup. Saadiyat school days end late and co-curricular programmes run long, so a realistic weekday slot for a student there starts at six rather than four.

Khalifa City

Across the Khaleej Al Arabi towards the airport. The term-time round trip costs a travelling tutor well over an hour, which is where the in-home travel premium stops being defensible for a weekly arrangement.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

The corridor towards the Dubai road, with long bus routes. Students arrive home tired, so a shorter session held reliably beats the ninety-minute block a travelling tutor needs in order to justify the drive.

Al Reem Island

A bridge away with a young population, so most of its students are in primary and lower secondary. Diploma demand there is thin, which is one reason local tutor pools cannot be relied on for second-year support.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Start with the date, not the subject

Tell us what is due and when: internal assessment deadlines, the mock window, the session. The calendar decides whether this is a teaching job or a sequencing job, and those need different people and different numbers of sessions.

  2. 02

Send the marked script or the draft

A mock script with the breakdown, or a draft with supervisor comments. Twenty minutes with real marked work tells a specialist more than any description, because the marks show where the loss is rather than where it feels like it is.

  3. 03

Free trial, spent on the diagnosis

The first session costs nothing and is used to produce a ranked list of what is costing the most marks and what the remaining weeks can realistically fix. That list is yours whether or not anything follows it.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the Ramadan plan together

Choose the hour that survives the school finish, the bus run and the activity that owns a weekday evening, and agree now what happens during Ramadan. A slot decided in advance holds; one improvised in the first week of the month does not.

  5. 05

    Re-plan when a mock lands

Mock results are the best evidence of the year and the week afterwards is the most productive tutoring week available. The sequence is rewritten then, and if the error log has flattened, fewer sessions are the honest recommendation.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Planned from the calendar backwards

The first thing we establish is what is due and when, because that determines whether a family needs subject teaching, deadline triage or a realistic conversation about a Higher Level grade. Three different answers, and only one of them is more hours.

Delivery stated before anything else

Lessons for Al Karamah are online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. A parent should know that from the first screen rather than at the point of booking.

Honest about what eight weeks can do

Some starting points gain a great deal in eight weeks and some do not. The table on this page says which is which, including the cases where the answer is to protect the other five subjects instead of rescuing one.

Market rates published with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, and kept separate from our own arrangement. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote dollars at families who pay in dirhams.

The integrity line held under pressure

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. Nobody here produces an internal assessment or an essay, including in the week it is due, and a competitor selling exactly that is the reason this needs saying out loud.

Availability disclosed, not implied

Deadline season and pre-session weeks are the tightest in the year. Where the right specialist is not free, the answer is a date and an alternative rather than a booking that quietly becomes a mismatch in session two.

Student and parent reviews

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Karamah: your questions answered

Will an IB home tutor actually come to our villa in Al Karamah?+

Not from IB Gram. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and every UAE lesson is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. That is a genuine limitation and it is stated here rather than discovered at booking. The in-home market in Abu Dhabi does exist, with published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel. What that premium pays for is the journey. The case for taking the lesson online is that the tutor can be chosen for the component rather than for the drive.

Is eight weeks long enough to change my son's Diploma grade?+

It depends entirely on where he is starting. If he understands the content and is losing marks to timing, command terms and presentation, eight weeks is genuinely productive, because those are routines rather than knowledge. If half a Higher Level course is inaccessible, the honest answer is no, and the better plan is to protect the other five subjects and discuss the level with the school. A diagnostic session on a marked script will tell you which case applies, and that is worth buying before anything else.

Which internal assessment should my daughter finish first?+

Rank them by assessment weight and by how far each has already gone, not by which deadline is nearest. The nearest-deadline strategy is why Year 13 students end the term with four half-finished pieces. Put every deadline, draft date and mock on one sheet, then decide deliberately, accepting a lower mark on one component if that protects two others. Two sessions produce that sheet, and in this district it regularly shows that the subject the parent was worried about is not the urgent one.

When do UAE schools sit the IB examinations?+

UAE schools sit the May session. This page deliberately publishes no IB examination or results dates, because the IB's own website blocks automated checking and a date a family books flights around should come from the school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly. What can be planned on is the structure: external papers last, a final revision stretch of six to eight weeks before them, the school mock window roughly a term earlier, and internal deadlines clustered before the mocks.

How should we use the week after mock results?+

It is the most productive tutoring week of the year and it is usually wasted on disappointment. Get the marked script rather than the grade, and have a specialist read it. Losses concentrated in the final questions mean timing. Losses spread evenly mean coverage. Losses on explanation questions mean command terms. Each of those has a different fix, and twenty minutes with the script produces a ranked list that is actionable in a way the grade on the front never is.

What does a Diploma tutor cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

The market bands are published by the providers themselves. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Named specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and premium examiner-branded tuition quoted at AED 500 to 650, where BartyED states AED 650. In-home visits including travel are AED 180 to 500. IB Gram starts with a free trial lesson and confirms the rate in the match conversation.

How do Al Karamah families keep Diploma revision going through Ramadan?+

Yes, and agreeing it before the month starts is the difference between keeping momentum and losing a fortnight. School hours shorten, routines move later, and the productive study window usually sits after iftar rather than in the afternoon. Ramadan shifts earlier each year, so it falls at a different point in the Diploma cycle each time, sometimes in the coursework crunch and sometimes in the revision run. Online delivery makes the change simple, because a late session costs nobody a drive across the island.

Is a summer block worth it before the second year of the Diploma?+

For a student entering the second year, usually yes, because it is the only stretch of the calendar with no competing deadlines. A short block on the hardest Higher Level subject, or on getting an Extended Essay question settled, pays back disproportionately. For a student who has just finished the session, no. Rest belongs in the plan, and a provider selling sessions to a student whose papers are already sat is selling to a parent's anxiety rather than to a need.

Does the tutor need a permit to teach my child privately in Abu Dhabi?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day turnaround. Tutoring privately without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so be wary of any specific amount quoted to you.

Could we pay my child's own Diploma teacher for extra sessions?+

In Abu Dhabi you should assume not. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates that private and charter school staff are barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct restricts serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the current wording with ADEK. There is also a conflict worth avoiding: the person who assesses an internal assessment and sets the mocks should not be paid to prepare the student for them.

Can a tutor finish an internal assessment if the deadline is in three days?+

No, and anybody who offers to should end your search. The school authenticates submitted work and the board treats work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, with the consequence falling on the student rather than the provider. What a tutor can legitimately do under that pressure is triage: decide which component gets the remaining hours, cut a bloated draft back to what the criteria reward, and accept a lower mark on one piece to protect two others. That is genuine help and it is often the most valuable kind.

My Year 12 looks fine. Is it too early to arrange anything?+

It is the best time, and almost nobody uses it. Year 12 is where level choices are still reversible, where an Extended Essay question can be settled calmly, and where a weak technique can be fixed before it is reinforced across two years of practice. Families who arrange support in the first year typically need fewer hours overall than families who arrive in February of the second year, because the work is preventive rather than remedial. One session a week is normally enough at that stage.

How many sessions a week should a Year 13 in this area be doing?+

One a week through the autumn, moving to two in the six to eight weeks before the session if the error log justifies it. Starting at two is usually counterproductive: the student has no time to practise between sessions, so the tutor re-teaches instead of correcting. A Year 13 here also carries the mandatory Arabic, Islamic studies and social studies lessons alongside six Diploma subjects and the core, so free evenings are fewer than the subject list implies.

Does online tutoring work for a student who is already overwhelmed?+

Often better than in-home, because it removes a visitor from a stressed household and because the sessions can be shorter and more frequent. A sixty-minute slot twice a week is easier to hold than one ninety-minute block that a travelling tutor needs to justify. The student's own drafts and papers stay on screen, working is written live on a shared whiteboard, and a written note after each session means the plan survives a week where nothing else does.

What if the right Higher Level specialist is not free this term?+

We say so and give you options rather than filling the slot. A later weekday hour with the right tutor usually beats an immediate hour with the wrong one. A single diagnostic session produces a ranked list the student can work through alone. A waiting list with an actual date lets a family plan. Niche Higher Level subjects and core specialists are thinner year round, and demand concentrates before the session, which is why the diagnostic is worth booking in the autumn.

Tell us the date and we will tell you what it can carry

Start with what is due rather than with what is wrong. Send the mock script or the stalled draft, take the free trial with it open, and finish that session with two things: a ranked list of where the marks are going and an honest view of what the remaining weeks can achieve. Lessons for Al Karamah run online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to the Abu Dhabi school week and moved after iftar during Ramadan. If the specialist you need is not free this term, we will say so and give you a date rather than a substitute.
