IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Rawdah

Most searches for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Rawdah begin with a subject rather than a format: physics, chemistry, maths, English. So this page starts there too, with the syllabus codes Abu Dhabi schools actually sit, the paper structure behind each one, and the specific mark-scheme traps that turn understanding into a lost grade. Tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video, matched to the code your child is entered for rather than to a postcode.

IB & IGCSE in Al Rawdah

Start with the code, because the code decides the papers

An IGCSE is not one qualification. It is a family of syllabuses from different boards, each with its own paper structure, its own tiering, its own practical arrangements and its own grade scale. Cambridge IGCSE Physics is 0625. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics is 4PH1. They examine overlapping content through different papers, and a student revising from the wrong board's past papers is practising question styles they will never meet. The first thing worth knowing about your child's IGCSE is therefore not the subject but the code.

In Abu Dhabi schools the common codes are Cambridge 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 and 0990 English First Language, 0510 and 0511 English as a Second Language, 0450 Business Studies, 0455 Economics and 0460 Geography, alongside Pearson 4MA1 Mathematics, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology and 4EA1 English Language. Some schools mix boards across subjects, so one student can be sitting Cambridge science and Pearson maths in the same year. Ask the school for the list in writing, subject by subject, and keep the reply where you can find it in Year 11. It is a short email that saves a term of revising from the wrong papers, and the examinations officer answers that question every week.

The second structural fact is tiering. Cambridge splits several subjects into Core and Extended, with Core capping the grades available. Pearson splits mathematics into Foundation and Higher, with Foundation topping out at grade 5 and Higher running 9 down to 4 with a grade 3 safety net. Tier entry is made by the school and it sets a ceiling the student cannot pass however well the papers go, which is why it deserves a conversation in Year 10 rather than a discovery in Year 11.

The third is practical assessment in the sciences. Cambridge science syllabuses offer an alternative-to-practical paper alongside a practical test option, and schools choose which route they enter. The alternative-to-practical paper is its own skill: reading an apparatus diagram, identifying a variable that was not controlled, criticising a method, completing a results table, plotting and interpreting a graph with sensible scales. Students who know the physics and have never practised that paper lose marks on it reliably, and it is one of the easiest gains available in a short block.

IB Gram delivers all of this as live one-to-one online tuition on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For syllabus-specific work that arrangement is an advantage rather than a concession: past papers are annotated on a shared screen, an apparatus diagram can be marked up while both people look at it, and the session is recorded so a student can replay a method before attempting the next question set.

At a glance

  • Ask the school for every subject's syllabus code in writing
  • Cambridge and Pearson papers are not interchangeable for revision
  • Tier entry caps the grade and the school controls the deadline
  • Alternative-to-practical is a separate, learnable examination skill
  • UAE candidates sit the June Cambridge series, with November as the resit route
  • Command terms, not content, decide a large share of lost marks
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Rawdah families usually meet two or three of these routes across one household. Each changes what Year 10 and Year 11 should be building towards.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two-year courses examined by written papers, tiered into Core and Extended in several subjects, with alternative-to-practical or practical test routes in the sciences. Grades are reported A* to G. Cambridge publishes the current assessment model for each syllabus code, and models are revised, so the paper structure should be read at source for the series your child is entered for.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with a separate timetable version for each, and states that it is essential to use the correct version because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Your child's school is the centre, so the school's timetable is the authoritative one for an Al Rawdah family.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Parallel qualifications with codes such as 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1, reported on the 9 to 1 grade scale and tiered in mathematics into Foundation and Higher. Science practical skills are assessed within the written papers rather than through a separate practical test in most routes.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables that are later revised, so plan from the live official timetable.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A-Level, what IGCSE feeds into

The usual continuation for a Cambridge or Pearson student. Entry is typically conditional on minimum IGCSE grades in the relevant subjects, and the step up in algebraic and analytical demand is steep, showing in the first AS mock. Tier entry at IGCSE can therefore close a post-16 door quietly.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, plus five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count of five.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme, the other post-16 route

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, with internal assessments carrying substantial weight and a 45-point total. An IGCSE Extended or Higher-tier student arrives with solid algebra and essentially no calculus, which is the predictable first-term gap in Diploma mathematics.

Several Abu Dhabi schools run a British route to Year 11 and then offer the Diploma, so an Al Rawdah family may be choosing between staying for A-Levels and moving to a Diploma school. That decision is far easier in Year 10, when tier entry can still be aligned with it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry below names the syllabus, the paper shape and the trap that most reliably costs marks in it. This is the level of detail a tutor should be able to discuss before you book them.

Mathematics, Cambridge 0580

Core and Extended

Number, algebra, coordinate geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, transformations, probability and statistics. Cambridge has revised the assessment model, including the balance of calculator and non-calculator papers, so confirm the structure at source. Traps: reverse percentages, bounds rounded away, and histograms with unequal class widths where frequency density is forgotten.

Mathematics, Pearson 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

The same mathematical territory on the 9 to 1 scale, with Foundation capped at grade 5 and Higher running 9 to 4 with a grade 3 safety net. Question phrasing differs from Cambridge enough to matter in timed conditions. Traps: incomplete transformation descriptions and tree diagrams where the second denominator is not changed.

Physics, Cambridge 0625

Core and Extended

Motion, forces, energy, thermal physics, waves, electricity, magnetism and atomic physics, with an alternative-to-practical or practical test route. Traps: stating a relationship without the condition attached, treating a graph gradient as a value rather than a rate, and losing every subsequent mark to a unit conversion made once.

Physics, Pearson 4PH1

Single tier

Comparable content with practical skills assessed inside the written papers. Six-mark extended answers reward a structured explanation, and students who write a list of facts rather than a causal chain lose marks they knew the physics for. Formula recall is less forgiving than many students expect.

Chemistry, Cambridge 0620

Core and Extended

Particles, stoichiometry, electrochemistry, energetics, rates, organic chemistry and chemical analysis. Traps: mole calculations where the limiting reagent is not identified, ionic equations written without charges balanced, and qualitative analysis answers that name a result without naming the observation that produced it.

Chemistry, Pearson 4CH1

Single tier

Similar ground with its own paper structure and question conventions. Organic mechanisms and calculations involving concentration and gas volumes generate the most requests from Year 11 students in this catchment. Practical-method criticism appears inside the written papers and is routinely under-practised.

Biology, Cambridge 0610

Core and Extended

Cells, transport, nutrition, respiration, coordination, inheritance and ecology. The volume of content makes this a long-run subject rather than a crammable one, and the biggest single source of lost marks is answering a command term with the wrong shape of answer rather than with wrong biology.

English First Language, Cambridge 0500 and 0990

Varies by school entry

Reading comprehension, summary writing and directed writing, with coursework in some routes. Marks are lost in summary tasks that quote rather than condense, and in directed writing that ignores the specified audience and form. The examined skill is timed analysis, not quantity of reading.

English as a Second Language, Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Core and Extended routes

Reading, writing, listening and, in 0511, a speaking component. A student entered for the second-language syllabus is examined against different criteria from a first-language candidate, which is one of the most consequential things for a family to confirm before buying tuition.

Business Studies and Economics, Cambridge 0450 and 0455

Single tier

Case-study based papers where marks sit in application to the given business or economy rather than in recited theory. Economics diagrams carry marks that are forfeited through missing labels, and evaluation questions require a judgement with a reason rather than two balanced paragraphs and no conclusion.

Geography and History, Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Single tier

Source-based and case-study assessment where structure decides the mark. History candidates lose marks by describing a source rather than using it as evidence; geography candidates lose marks on skills questions involving maps, graphs and data interpretation that are entirely practisable.

Alternative-to-practical papers across the sciences

Where the school enters this route

A separate examined skill: reading apparatus diagrams, identifying uncontrolled variables, criticising a method, completing results tables, choosing graph scales and drawing valid conclusions. Students who have never worked through one lose marks they would otherwise have earned, and a handful of focused sessions reliably recovers them.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns cover almost every subject-specific request from this catchment. All are live, one-to-one and online.

Single-subject weekly sessions

One subject, one code, one hour a week with the same tutor, following the school's scheme of work. This is the pattern for a subject that has slipped a grade band and needs consistency rather than rescue, and it works best when started in term one rather than after a mock.

  • Matched to the syllabus code, not the subject name
  • Topic order follows the school's sequence
  • One written target per week
  • Recording available for replay before the next problem set

Alternative-to-practical and skills blocks

A short run of sessions on the examined skills students rarely practise: apparatus diagrams, method criticism, results tables, graph scales, map and data skills in geography, source use in history. Narrow, cheap and reliably productive because the marks are recoverable rather than dependent on new content.

  • Confirms which practical route the school entered
  • Whole past skills papers worked and marked together
  • Focus on the specific mark-scheme language used
  • Four to six sessions with a clear finish point

Multi-subject triage before a series

For a Year 11 student weak across three subjects, a short diagnostic across all three followed by concentrated work on whichever carries the most recoverable marks. The aim is to avoid the common trap of buying three weekly tutors and leaving the student no time to practise any of them.

  • One marked paper per subject to establish the real gaps
  • Priority order set by recoverable marks, not by anxiety
  • Sequential rather than simultaneous where time is short
  • Honest advice when a subject does not need paid help

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Rawdah

01

What this search means in practice, and the first question to ask the school

  • Ask for code, tier and practical route in one email
  • Download past papers only for the confirmed code
  • Diagnose from a marked paper, not from a conversation
  • Expect a small set of repeatable errors rather than a general gap

Directly: an IGCSE home tutor in Al Rawdah, through IB Gram, means a subject specialist matched to the syllabus code your child is entered for, teaching one-to-one over live video at a time that fits an Abu Dhabi school day, with a free trial lesson first. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The search phrase is what parents type, and the honest response is to answer it and then say what is actually delivered.

The first question to put to the school is not about tutoring at all. It is: which syllabus code is each subject entered for, which tier, and for the sciences which practical route. Those three facts determine the papers, the grade ceiling and a whole examined skill, and they are the difference between tuition that lands on the right target and tuition that is broadly about the subject.

Parents are sometimes reluctant to ask, as though it signals distrust. It does not. The examinations officer deals with codes daily and the maths or science department will answer in a sentence. Put the question in an email so you have the reply in writing, because the answer also tells you which past papers to download and which mark schemes to work from.

Once the codes are known, the diagnosis is straightforward. One marked past paper per subject, read against the official scheme, names the recurring failures in about twenty minutes. Nearly always they are a small set of repeatable errors rather than a general absence of understanding, and that is good news: repeatable errors respond to targeted practice far faster than missing knowledge does.

02

The sciences: paper structures, practical routes and the marks nobody practises

Cambridge science syllabuses, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology, are tiered into Core and Extended and offer an alternative-to-practical paper or a practical test depending on what the centre enters. Pearson's 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 assess practical skills inside the written papers instead. The consequence is that two students in the same Al Rawdah street can be examined on experimental skills in entirely different formats.

The alternative-to-practical paper is the most consistently underprepared component in this catchment. It asks a student to read an apparatus diagram, spot the variable nobody controlled, criticise a method, complete a results table with consistent significant figures, choose a sensible graph scale, draw a line of best fit and state a conclusion the data supports. Each of those is a trainable skill with its own mark-scheme language, and none of them appears in a textbook chapter.

In the theory papers the failures are specific rather than general. Physics candidates state relationships without the condition attached and treat a gradient as a value rather than a rate. Chemistry candidates lose mole questions by not identifying the limiting reagent and lose ionic equations by not balancing charge. Biology candidates write accurate biology in the wrong shape, answering an evaluate command with a description. Extended-response questions in all three reward a causal chain rather than a list.

Where a student is studying online and worried about practical work, the honest position is that an online tutor cannot run a titration with your child. What an online tutor can do is teach the examined practical skills thoroughly, work through every past alternative-to-practical paper available for that code, and make sure the student understands the apparatus they have used in school well enough to criticise a method on paper. The school supplies the laboratory; the tutor supplies the examination technique.

Command terms: the examiner hiding inside every question

A large share of lost IGCSE marks has nothing to do with knowledge. It comes from answering the wrong question well. State, describe, explain, compare, evaluate, suggest, calculate and justify each ask for a different structure, and the mark scheme is written to reward that structure. A student who explains when asked to describe has written more and scored less.

This is teachable in a few sessions and it transfers across every subject. Describe asks what happens, in order, with no reasons. Explain asks why, with a causal chain. Compare asks for both items in the same sentence, not two separate paragraphs. Evaluate asks for a judgement supported by the strongest reason, which means a conclusion is required rather than optional. Suggest invites a reasoned possibility, so a sensible answer earns credit even when it is not the model one.

The way to learn it is on the student's own marked work. Take a paper, find every question where marks were lost, and classify each loss: wrong content, wrong structure, or wrong reading of the command. In most Year 11 papers the second and third categories together outnumber the first, which is why command-term work is one of the highest-yield things a tutor can do early.

Mark schemes are published by the boards and should be read on their sites rather than redistributed. We cite and link them rather than supplying copies, because reproducing syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables is a copyright matter. A tutor's job is to teach a student to read the scheme, which is a skill they then keep for every paper they sit.

04

Using past papers properly, which is not the same as doing lots of them

Every family knows past papers matter. Fewer know that the value sits in the marking rather than the attempting. A student who completes ten papers and checks only the final answers has learnt almost nothing about where their marks went. A student who completes four and marks each one against the official scheme, classifying every lost mark, has built a map of their own weaknesses.

The method is simple enough to run without a tutor, although most students do not run it alone. Attempt a paper under timing. Mark it against the published scheme, awarding marks exactly as written rather than generously. Record each lost mark by topic and by type: content, structure, command reading, arithmetic, units. Count the categories. Then spend the next two sessions on whatever the count names, not on whatever feels hardest.

Two or three cycles in, something useful happens: the log stops looking like the student's intuition. Students almost always believe their problem is the hardest topic on the syllabus. The log usually says the problem is units, or incomplete transformation descriptions, or significant figures, or answering describe questions as explain questions. Those are cheap to fix and worth real marks across every paper.

Timing deserves separate treatment. Many Al Rawdah students lose marks at the end of a paper rather than throughout it, which is a pacing failure rather than a knowledge one. The fix is practising sections against the clock and learning to leave a stuck question and return, which sounds obvious and is almost never trained. A student who collects the final ten accessible marks instead of abandoning them has changed a grade boundary without learning any new content.

05

What subject tuition costs when a student needs more than one

The hourly rate is the wrong unit for a family in this position. A Year 11 student weak in three subjects does not need one rate; they need to decide how many subjects to pay for, which is the decision that actually sets the bill. Three weekly sessions is three times the cost and, more importantly, removes the evenings in which the student would otherwise practise. That trade-off is usually worse than it looks on paper.

With that framing, the published bands read in October 2026 are these. A qualified subject tutor working online is advertised at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Budget online tuition, often delivered by university students, runs AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel included, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors AED 200 to 500. Specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-led tuition reaches AED 500 to 650 and above on BartyED's published rate.

The practical approach for three weak subjects is triage rather than parallel coverage. One marked paper per subject establishes which carries the most recoverable marks. Start with that subject alone, at one session a week. Reassess after four weeks. Often the technique work transfers: command-term discipline learnt in biology shows up in geography, and significant-figure discipline learnt in chemistry shows up in physics. That transfer is why sequential beats simultaneous more often than families expect.

All of these are market figures from named published sources, not IB Gram prices; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson, when subject, code and session length are known. And a reminder worth repeating: a premium rate does not improve a wrong diagnosis. Paying examiner-level money to fix a student's handling of unequal-width histograms is an expensive route to a cheap problem.

Online against in-home for a subject that has a laboratory attached

Science is the subject where the in-home question is asked most sharply, because parents reasonably wonder whether a screen can teach something that happens on a bench. The answer depends on which part of science you mean. Apparatus handling happens in the school laboratory under a teacher, and no private tutor in either format substitutes for that. Examination technique for practical papers happens on paper, and a shared screen suits it well.

In-home tuition in this market is advertised at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price. A tutor in the room reads a student's working as it appears and holds attention better with a younger student. Against that, the pool shrinks to those who will drive to Al Rawdah at the hour you want, the start time is subject to traffic, and nothing from the session can be replayed afterwards.

For code-specific work the online format has a concrete advantage: a past paper and its mark scheme can be open on screen for both people, an apparatus diagram can be annotated live, and the recording lets a student revisit the moment a graph scale was chosen. Marking a paper together is the single most valuable hour in IGCSE tutoring, and it is easier to do well on a shared screen than across a kitchen table.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. If you do engage an independent in-home tutor here, ask for their MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since the permit costs nothing there is no innocent reason to lack it.

Entries, series and what happens after the results arrive

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only, so an Al Rawdah candidate sits June with November as the resit route. Entries are made by the school as the examination centre, which also means the school holds the deadline for any tier change.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are past dates cited so they can be checked. Because Pearson publishes provisional timetables that are later revised, any revision plan should link the live official timetable rather than restate a date.

After results, the decision most families face is whether to resit. The useful framing is marks rather than feelings: request the breakdown, see which paper and which question types lost the marks, and ask whether a November entry with targeted work would plausibly move it. A resit that repeats the same preparation usually repeats the same result, and a student who needs a specific grade for a specific post-16 route should make the decision on that requirement rather than on disappointment.

One thing worth planning for: the gap between sitting and receiving results is months, and the resit decision has to be made quickly once they arrive. A family that already knows the November route exists, and what its entry deadline looks like at their school, makes that decision calmly. One meeting it for the first time in late August does not.

Checks, claims and the things no tutoring company can honestly promise

  • No tutor can guarantee a grade; treat any such claim as disqualifying
  • Ask for the permit number behind any approval claim
  • Distrust percentages published without sample size, date and method
  • A provider willing to tell you to stop is worth more than one who never does

Private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are regulated by ADEK, which supervises their licensing and accreditation and publishes its own inspection ratings. Dubai is regulated by KHDA, Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the Ministry of Education. Read ratings and policies on the regulator's own site.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum six months to complete the steps and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. When an agency describes its tutors as regulator-approved, ask which permit and what number.

Nor can any tutor promise a grade. No tutor, however experienced with 0620 past papers, can guarantee an outcome that depends on a student's own work on a specific morning. Statistics without a sample size, a date and a method should be read the same way: a published claim of a satisfaction percentage or an average tutor score means nothing unless the underlying data can be produced.

What can be promised is narrower and more useful. A tutor matched to the code. A diagnosis in the first lesson. Marking against the published scheme rather than generously. An error log that drives the plan. Disclosure when no specialist is free, including where a tutor is based outside the UAE. And a recommendation to reduce or stop when the log says the problem has gone, which is the test of whether a provider is selling teaching or selling hours.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Rawdah

Al Rawdah sits in the middle of the island, which means a tutor working with students here is working across the same school network as the districts around it. The notes below are about school intake and session timing.

Al Rawdah

Central district between Al Mushrif and Al Karamah with short runs to the main school corridor. A 4.30pm session start is normally workable, and two consecutive sibling sessions fit comfortably into one evening.

Al Mushrif

Neighbouring district with high school density and a mixed British and IB intake. Households here commonly need two boards covered at once, which is the clearest argument for matching by syllabus code.

Al Karamah

On Al Rawdah's other side, with the same catchments and timings. Students from both districts frequently sit the same papers at the same centre, so revision groups across the two work well.

Al Nahyan

Dense residential area feeding the central schools. Later finishes at some schools push sessions towards 5pm, which is worth confirming before fixing a weekly slot.

Al Bateen

Villa communities west towards the marina. Longer school runs mean evening sessions dominate, and a lesson that begins at the booked minute is worth more here than in a dense central district.

Al Mushrif Gardens

Quieter residential pocket inside the same catchment. Families often coordinate two subjects for one student on separate evenings rather than stacking them, which protects the practice time between sessions.

Al Reem Island

One bridge out, with newer schools and a younger cohort. Science practical entries differ between newer and established schools, so confirm the route the school has chosen rather than assuming.

Khalifa City

Mainland cluster where several schools finish earlier, opening a 3.30pm slot. Al Rawdah families with children at both island and mainland schools often use that difference to stagger sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Rawdah

Central island schools serving Al Rawdah

These schools sit a mix of Cambridge and Pearson subjects, sometimes across different departments in the same building, which is exactly why a tutor should be given the code rather than the school name. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings.

In bigger Year 11 cohorts, tier entry and practical-route decisions are taken at department level and communicated late in the year. That is the practical reason to ask about both in Year 10, while there is still room to influence them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes, the tiers and the practical routes

Every subject's syllabus code, the tier where one applies, and for the sciences whether the school entered the alternative-to-practical or the practical test. One email to the examinations officer usually produces all of it, and it changes which past papers are worth downloading.

  2. 02

    One marked paper per subject

Before any plan is written, a recent marked paper per subject is read against the official scheme and every lost mark classified by topic and by type. That twenty-minute exercise names the real problem faster than any conversation about how the term has felt.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

One full lesson, no card required and no hours bought first. The tutor works the weakest question types from the marked paper and tells you what they found, including when a subject does not need paid help at all.

  4. 04

Triage, then a plan with an order

Where more than one subject is weak, the plan names which to start with on the basis of recoverable marks rather than anxiety, and keeps the student's practice evenings protected. Sequential work beats parallel coverage more often than families expect.

  5. 05

    Re-test, then reduce

After four to six weeks a fresh paper is worked and the new error log compared with the first. If the logged failures have gone, the recommendation is fewer sessions or none, and the next subject in the queue moves up.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the syllabus code

0625 and 4PH1 are different examinations with different practical arrangements. Matching to the code the school entered is what stops a student revising from papers they will never sit, and it is a check a proximity search cannot perform.

Alternative-to-practical treated as a real paper

Apparatus diagrams, method criticism, results tables and graph scales are examined skills with their own mark-scheme language. They are routinely untrained and the marks are recoverable, which makes them one of the cheapest grade gains available.

Command terms taught explicitly

A large share of lost marks comes from answering the wrong question well. Describe, explain, compare and evaluate want different structures, and learning that transfers across every subject a student sits.

Marking against the published scheme

Papers are marked exactly as the scheme is written rather than generously, with every lost mark classified. We cite and link board materials rather than redistributing them, because reproducing papers and mark schemes is a copyright matter.

Triage instead of three tutors

Buying weekly sessions in three subjects removes the evenings in which a student would practise any of them. Starting with the subject carrying the most recoverable marks usually produces a better result for less money.

No promised grades, no unsourced statistics

No tutor can guarantee an outcome that depends on a student's own work on the day, and no percentage should be published without a sample size, a date and a method. Every AED figure here carries the source that published it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Rawdah: your questions answered

How do I find out which science syllabus my child is entered for?+

Email the examinations officer and the head of science and ask for the syllabus code, the tier and the practical route in writing. Cambridge codes look like 0625, 0620 and 0610; Pearson codes look like 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. The practical route matters because Cambridge centres choose between an alternative-to-practical paper and a practical test, and the two examine different skills. Keep the reply, because it tells you exactly which past papers and mark schemes are the right ones to work from.

What is the alternative-to-practical paper and why does it cost marks?+

It is a written paper that examines experimental skills without a laboratory: reading apparatus diagrams, identifying variables that were not controlled, criticising a method, completing results tables with consistent significant figures, choosing graph scales, drawing lines of best fit and stating conclusions the data supports. Each of those has its own mark-scheme language and none appears in a textbook chapter, so students who have never worked through one lose marks they would otherwise earn. A few focused sessions reliably recover them.

Can an online tutor help with science practicals at all?+

Not with handling apparatus, which belongs in the school laboratory with a teacher, and no private tutor in any format substitutes for that. What an online tutor can do is teach the examined practical technique thoroughly: working through every available alternative-to-practical paper for the right code, marking it against the scheme, and making sure the student can criticise a method and justify a graph scale on paper. The school supplies the bench; the tutor supplies the examination skill.

Why do command terms matter more than the topic my child finds hard?+

Because a large share of lost marks comes from answering the wrong question well. Describe wants what happens in sequence with no reasons; explain wants a causal chain; compare wants both items held together in each point; evaluate wants a judgement with the strongest supporting reason. A student who explains when asked to describe writes more and scores less. Classifying lost marks on a real paper usually shows structure and command reading outnumbering missing content, and that is quicker to fix.

Is doing more past papers always better?+

No. The value sits in the marking rather than the attempting. Ten papers with only the final answers checked teaches very little; four papers marked against the official scheme with every lost mark classified by topic and type builds a map of the student's actual weaknesses. Two or three cycles in, the log usually contradicts the student's intuition, naming units, significant figures or command reading rather than the hardest topic on the syllabus. Those are cheap to fix and worth marks across every paper.

My child runs out of time at the end of every paper. Is that fixable?+

Yes, and it is a pacing problem rather than a knowledge one, which makes it one of the faster wins available. The training is practising sections against the clock, learning to leave a stuck question and come back to it, and treating the last ten accessible marks as marks rather than as a lost cause. Students are rarely taught this explicitly. A candidate who collects the final questions instead of abandoning them can cross a grade boundary without learning any new content.

We need help in three subjects. Should we book three tutors?+

Usually not. Three weekly sessions triples the cost and removes the evenings in which your child would otherwise practise any of the three. Start with one marked paper per subject to see which carries the most recoverable marks, work on that subject alone for four to six weeks, then reassess. Technique often transfers: command-term discipline learnt in biology shows up in geography, and significant-figure discipline learnt in chemistry shows up in physics, so sequential work compounds in a way parallel coverage does not.

Which IGCSE subjects do Abu Dhabi students most often ask for help in?+

Mathematics, physics and chemistry lead, with English First Language close behind where a student is sitting the first-language syllabus rather than the second-language one. In mathematics the requests cluster around histograms with unequal class widths, reverse percentages and transformation descriptions. In the sciences they cluster around mole calculations, graph interpretation and the alternative-to-practical paper. In English they cluster around summary writing, where students quote instead of condensing and lose marks for it.

Does it matter whether my child sits 0500 or 0510 English?+

A great deal. Cambridge 0500 and 0990 are First Language English syllabuses; 0510 and 0511 are English as a Second Language, with 0511 carrying a speaking component. They are examined against different criteria, so a student entered for the second-language syllabus is not being assessed as a first-language candidate and should not be prepared as one. Confirm the code in writing before buying any tuition, because the wrong preparation here is particularly wasteful.

What should we do if the results are a grade below what the sixth form requires?+

Get the component breakdown from the examinations officer, see which paper and which question types lost the marks, and check the actual entry condition for the post-16 route rather than assuming it. Then decide about a November entry on that evidence. Cambridge offers a November series and Pearson runs November as well as May and June. A resit with the same preparation tends to produce the same result, so the plan has to come from the breakdown.

How quickly can a tutor start once we have the codes?+

Usually within a few days in term time, and the first session is a free trial lesson used as a diagnosis rather than an introduction. Availability tightens before mock windows and in the weeks before a series, when the same specialists are in demand across every school at once. If nobody is free for a particular code, you are told the expected wait and given the alternatives in writing, including where a tutor is based outside the UAE, which you hear before booking rather than afterwards.

Can a tutor give us past papers and mark schemes?+

We cite and link them rather than supplying copies. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are published by Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is a copyright matter. Your child's school can also provide them. What a tutor adds is teaching the student to read a mark scheme properly, which is a skill that keeps paying across every paper they sit, rather than handing over a folder of PDFs nobody works through.

Is a cheaper online tutor good enough for IGCSE science?+

It depends on the job. Budget online tuition advertised at AED 45 to 150 an hour can genuinely cover homework supervision and confidence in Year 9 or early Year 10. For Year 11 work that needs mark-scheme marking, alternative-to-practical technique and triage across topics, the qualified band at AED 150 to 300 is the right place to be, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Premium rates of AED 500 and above make sense only for a narrow need already precisely identified.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our home in Al Rawdah if we pay more?+

No. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE at any price; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Independent tutors and agencies in Abu Dhabi do provide it, at published market rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. Our delivery into Al Rawdah is live one-to-one video tuition on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the syllabus code your child is entered for, with the past paper and its mark scheme open on a shared screen.

Send the codes and we will send the right specialist

The most useful first message for an IGCSE enquiry from Al Rawdah is a list: each subject, its syllabus code, its tier, and for the sciences the practical route the school entered. Add a recent marked paper and a tutor can name the real failures before the first lesson ends. We match on the code rather than the subject name, mark against the published scheme rather than generously, and tell you when a subject does not need paid help. The first lesson is free. Tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we offer only in India.
