IB Maths Tutor in Al Rawdah

Hiring an IB maths tutor in Al Rawdah is a smaller decision than the ones sitting around it: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher Level or Standard Level, Diploma or A-Level. This page sets those comparisons out with the trade-offs named, because the wrong course choice costs more tutoring hours than any single topic gap. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the course your child actually takes.

IB & IGCSE in Al Rawdah

The comparisons that decide a maths grade, in the order they arrive

Families in Al Rawdah usually come to tutoring with the smallest question first: who is good, and how much. The decisions that move a Diploma mathematics grade sit upstream of that. Which course, AA or AI. Which level, Higher or Standard. Whether the Diploma is the right post-16 route at all when A-Level maths sits at the same schools. Each of those is a comparison with real consequences, and each is cheaper to get right in Year 11 than to compensate for in Year 13.

Take the level question. A 7 at Standard Level and a 4 at Higher Level are not close in effect, even though the Higher course looks more impressive on a form. The 7 protects the overall 45-point total, frees evenings for the subjects a university offer genuinely depends on, and leaves a student confident rather than permanently behind. The 4 does none of that. The only reason to take Higher Level mathematics is that the degree route requires it or the student is genuinely strong in it, and a tutor whose first instinct is to encourage the higher level is not acting in your child's interest.

The course question is sharper still, because the two courses are not a harder and an easier version of each other. Analysis and Approaches examines algebra, functions, proof and calculus, with a Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation examines modelling, data and statistics with technology permitted throughout. Both cover the same five named topics and diverge rapidly within them. By the end of DP1 an AA student has met implicit differentiation and complex numbers while an AI student has met chi-squared testing and the Poisson distribution, and no tutor can merge those two paths afterwards.

The third comparison is the one Al Rawdah families actually started with, and it is the least important: whether to hire somebody local. Al Rawdah sits between Al Mushrif and Al Karamah, minutes from the main school corridor, so local in-home tuition is genuinely available at published rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. The limitation is not price but pool size. The adults willing to drive here on a Tuesday evening are not the same set as the adults who have taught Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and for Paper 3 work that difference is the whole thing.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition into Al Rawdah over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For mathematics that arrangement is more than acceptable: the whiteboard is shared, graphs are plotted on the screen both people are reading, past questions are annotated live, and the session is recorded so a method can be replayed before the homework. What the format buys is the ability to choose a tutor by course rather than by distance.

At a glance

  • A 7 at Standard Level usually beats a 4 at Higher Level
  • AA and AI diverge within one term and cannot be merged later
  • Higher Level adds a third paper worth 20% of the grade
  • The Exploration is 20% in every course and level combination
  • In-home market rate is AED 180-500 an hour, travel inside the price
  • Course experience is the variable proximity cannot supply
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three routes carry mathematics for a sixteen-year-old in Abu Dhabi, and the comparison between them is usually made on reputation rather than on fit. These are the differences that matter in practice.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme mathematics

Two courses, AA or AI, at Standard or Higher Level, each with five syllabus topics, a toolkit strand and a 20% Exploration. Standard Level is two papers at 40% each; Higher Level is three papers weighted 30%, 30% and 20%. Grades run 1 to 7 within a 45-point Diploma total that also carries Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

Diploma students in Al Rawdah usually attend one of a modest number of schools offering the programme in Abu Dhabi, several of them off the island. The internal deadlines that drive the year, particularly the Exploration draft date and the mock window, are set by the school rather than by the IB, so ask for the written internal calendar early.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A-Level mathematics

Pure mathematics with mechanics or statistics as applied content, examined by written papers with no coursework. Narrower than the Diploma, which suits a student who wants depth in three subjects rather than breadth in six, and it does not carry an Exploration or a core.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, plus five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3. The IB points threshold for equivalency is not published in that source, so verify it on moe.gov.ae before relying on any figure.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to 5

Middle Years Programme mathematics

Four assessment criteria, each marked 0 to 8: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Strong on investigation, light on sustained timed algebra, which is the predictable shape of the gap when a student reaches DP1.

For an Al Rawdah family comparing an IB continuum school with a British-curriculum school, this is the real comparison: a criterion-based middle school against a terminal-examination one. Both lead into the Diploma, and the practical difference shows up in the first term of DP1 rather than at the point of choosing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma mathematics splits into the components below. The comparison column matters: at Higher Level the same topic is examined with more depth and a different paper structure, and that is where tutoring hours go.

Number and algebra

AA and AI, SL and HL

Sequences, series, exponents, logarithms and the binomial theorem, extending at AA Higher Level into proof by induction, complex numbers and partial fractions. The Higher Level extension is a different kind of work rather than more of the same, which is why a Standard Level tutor cannot simply stretch upwards.

Functions

AA and AI, SL and HL

Domain and range, composites, inverses and transformations, with quadratic, rational and exponential models. AI leans on fitting a function to data; AA leans on manipulating it exactly. The recurring error in both is applying transformations in the wrong order.

Geometry and trigonometry

AA and AI, SL and HL

Solids, the sine and cosine rules, radian measure and trigonometric equations, with vectors and compound-angle identities at AA Higher Level. Calculators left in degrees for radian questions invalidate every line that follows, which is a habit rather than a gap.

Statistics and probability

AA and AI, SL and HL

Data presentation, regression, probability rules and the binomial and normal distributions, extending at AI Higher Level into chi-squared testing, Poisson and hypothesis testing. This is where AI is genuinely harder than AA rather than lighter.

Calculus

AA and AI, SL and HL

Differentiation and integration with kinematics and volumes of revolution, extending at AA Higher Level into implicit differentiation, Maclaurin series and differential equations. AI treats calculus more numerically. Most lost marks trace to a missing constant or a chain rule on the wrong inner function.

The Exploration

20% at every course and level

An individual investigation of roughly 12 to 20 pages, marked out of 20 across presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Mathematics above course level scores badly because understanding cannot be shown, which surprises ambitious students.

Paper 1

SL 40%, HL 30%

Sat without a calculator in AA and with technology in AI. The comparison matters for preparation: AA requires paper fluency with surds, logarithms and radians, while AI requires knowing which calculator function to reach for quickly.

Paper 2

SL 40%, HL 30%

Calculator-permitted across all five topics, awarding method marks for a written setup even when the final value is wrong. Students who type into the calculator and record only the answer forfeit marks they had genuinely earned.

Paper 3

HL only, 20%

Two extended problem-solving questions crossing topics, present at Higher Level and absent at Standard. This single component is the strongest practical argument for matching a tutor to the exact level, because it cannot be prepared for by doing more short questions.

Graphical display calculator fluency

All courses

Solving numerically, finding intersections, evaluating definite integrals, running regressions and reading distributions on the specific model the school uses. Transfers from other systems often arrive without these skills and lose marks on questions they understand perfectly.

Mock papers and predicted grades

DP1 and DP2

School mocks produce the predicted grade a university sees when it makes an offer. Preparing specifically for a school's own mock is bounded, legitimate work with an obvious end date, and it is often more consequential than the student believes at the time.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, all live, one-to-one and online, chosen by which comparison the family is currently standing in front of.

Course-choice advisory sessions

One or two sessions in Year 11 or early DP1 to settle AA against AI and Higher against Standard on evidence rather than impression. The tutor works sample questions from each course with the student and reports what they saw. It is a bounded piece of work with no ongoing commitment attached.

  • Sample questions from both courses, worked live
  • A written summary the family can take to the school
  • University requirements checked on the institution's own pages
  • No pressure towards the higher level

Weekly one-to-one at the matched level

A fixed slot with a tutor who teaches that exact course and level. Ninety minutes for Higher Level, because Paper 3 practice does not fit into an hour; sixty for Standard Level. The topic order follows the school's scheme of work rather than a generic sequence.

  • Matched to AA HL, AA SL, AI HL or AI SL
  • Error log by topic drives the session agenda
  • Recording available for replay before homework
  • Reviewed every six to eight weeks against the log

Exploration coaching timed to the school deadline

A short block four to six weeks before the school's internal draft date, focused on the five criteria. The tutor narrows the question, checks the mathematics sits at course level and gives criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft. Nothing is written or calculated for the student.

  • Topic narrowed to something finishable at the right level
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own text
  • No drafting, no supplied calculations, no editing to completion
  • Ends when the draft goes to the school

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Rawdah

01

Answering the search, then naming the comparison that matters more

  • Distance is the least consequential variable in this decision
  • Course and level fit outrank tutor quality in effect
  • Ask for a first session that reports what it found, bluntly
  • Every comparison on this page carries its own table

Directly: an IB maths tutor in Al Rawdah through IB Gram is a Diploma mathematics specialist matched to your child's exact course and level, teaching one-to-one over live video at an Abu Dhabi-friendly hour, with a free trial lesson first and no block of hours bought in advance. There is no travel and no tutor arriving at a UAE address, because in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India.

Having answered that, the more useful conversation is about the choices around the tutoring. Al Rawdah families comparing tutors by distance are comparing the least consequential variable available to them. The consequential ones are whether the student is on the right course, at the right level, with the Exploration under control, and whether the hours being bought are aimed at the topics an error log actually names.

There is a reason this ordering gets inverted. Distance and price are easy to compare; course fit is not, because it requires somebody to look at the student's work and say something uncomfortable. A first session that reports the student is on the wrong course is worth more than a term of competent teaching on the wrong course, and it is also the harder conversation to have, which is why many providers do not have it.

So the sections below work through the comparisons in the order they bite: level, course, Diploma against A-Level, the step up from IGCSE, cost by format, and the pool of available tutors. Each has a table, because a comparison without numbers is just an opinion with paragraphs attached.

02

Higher Level or Standard Level: comparing the cost of each in points

The level decision is usually framed as ambition against safety, which is the wrong frame. It is a comparison between two outcomes with different point totals and different time demands, and the right answer depends on what the university offer actually requires. A Diploma is marked out of 45 and a university looks at the total as well as the individual subject grade, so a level choice that costs two points in maths and two more in a subject starved of time is a four-point decision rather than a one-subject one.

Higher Level mathematics adds a third paper worth 20% of the grade, roughly 100 more teaching hours over two years in most school timetables, and a body of content the Standard Level student never meets: at AA that means complex numbers, induction, Maclaurin series and differential equations. The honest question is not whether the student could pass it but whether those hours produce more value in mathematics than they would in the subject the offer actually hangs on.

There are students for whom Higher Level is plainly right. They enjoy proof, they finish problem sets early, they ask why rather than how, and their target degree requires it. For those students the Higher course is the correct and enjoyable choice and tutoring is about depth rather than survival. The failure mode is the student who is capable and uninterested, pushed up by a school's grade profile or a family's expectation, who then spends two years behind.

If the decision is live, settle it on evidence. A short advisory block works sample Higher and Standard questions with the student and reports what happened: fluency, stamina, how they responded to an unfamiliar problem. Combine that with the actual entry requirements on the target universities' own admissions pages for the intake year in question, and the decision usually makes itself.

03

AA against AI, compared through the degree the student actually wants

Comparing the two courses on content alone produces a stalemate, because each is harder than the other somewhere. The useful comparison runs backwards from the degree. Certain routes commonly specify Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, sometimes with a minimum grade. Others accept either course. A few are indifferent to mathematics entirely, and a student in that position who takes AA HL out of caution has bought two difficult years for nothing.

The rule for checking is strict and worth following. Read the entry requirements on the university's own admissions page, for the intake year the student will apply to, for the named programme. Requirements vary between institutions and change between years. No tutoring page, including this one, should be treated as the source for a requirement that determines a two-year course choice, and any site presenting a blanket list of degree-to-course mappings is simplifying something that varies.

What can be said generally is the pattern of fit. Engineering, mathematics, physics and many economics routes commonly expect the algebraic and calculus-heavy content that AA provides, and a student arriving at such a degree from AI can find the first year steeper. Business, design, psychology and several health-science routes commonly accept AI, and for a student who thinks statistically the AI course is a better two years and often a better grade.

The student's own disposition is the tiebreaker and it is legitimate evidence rather than sentiment. A student who enjoys exactness and proof will work harder in AA and do better. A student who wants to know what a number means in context will engage with AI and produce a stronger Exploration. Two years is long enough that enjoyment compounds into grades, which is why pushing a statistically minded student into AA for prestige tends to produce neither the grade nor the interest.

Diploma mathematics against A-Level mathematics, as two post-16 routes

Several Abu Dhabi schools run a British curriculum to Year 11 and then offer either A-Levels or the Diploma, which makes this a live comparison for Al Rawdah families rather than an abstract one. The two routes produce different workloads, different kinds of mathematics and different university conversations, and the comparison is rarely made properly before the decision is taken.

A-Level mathematics is narrower and deeper. Three or four subjects, pure mathematics with mechanics or statistics, no coursework, no core, and the student's whole timetable pointing at a small number of papers. A student who already knows they want engineering and dislikes essay subjects often thrives here. The Diploma is broader: six subjects, three at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and a 20% Exploration inside mathematics itself.

For tutoring the practical difference is where the pressure lands. An A-Level student needs sustained technical work across two years with the pressure concentrated in the examination series. A Diploma student needs the same technical work plus management of internal deadlines that arrive throughout, which is why Diploma tutoring is more often seasonal and deadline-shaped while A-Level tutoring is more often steady.

On equivalency the routes are documented differently. For the British track, the Ministry of Education's requirements are published: one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, plus five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that five. No IB points threshold appears in that source, so a family should verify the IB position on moe.gov.ae rather than accept a figure from a commercial page.

05

The step from IGCSE into Diploma maths, and what it actually costs to close

Most Al Rawdah Diploma students arrive from IGCSE, and the transition has a predictable shape. An Extended or Higher-tier IGCSE student has strong algebra, confident trigonometry, reasonable statistics and essentially no calculus. The first term of DP1 introduces calculus quickly and assumes an algebraic fluency that IGCSE rewarded but did not require under sustained time pressure.

The gap is narrow and specific, which is good news. Surds and index laws at speed, standard form, the factor and remainder theorems, function notation used precisely, and the habit of writing a solution a marker can follow without guessing. Eight to twelve sessions in DP1 term one normally closes it. The same gap discovered in DP2 costs considerably more, because by then it sits under a year of newer content that also needs attention.

Students arriving from the Middle Years Programme have a different gap: investigation skills are strong, formal proof and timed technical writing are not. Students arriving from CBSE often have more calculus than the course needs and no experience of a graphical display calculator. Each of these is a different eight-week plan, and a tutor who offers the same plan to all three has not asked where the student came from.

The comparison worth making here is about timing rather than tutor. Buying help in September is cheaper than buying it in February for exactly the same problem, because in September the problem is one topic and in February it is one topic plus everything built on top of it. Families routinely wait for a report card to justify the spend, which is understandable and expensive.

Comparing formats by what a monthly budget actually buys

Set a monthly figure and see what each format delivers for it, which is a more honest comparison than an hourly rate. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for weekly one-hour sessions put budget tuition at AED 240 to 600 a month, mid-range at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist exam-year work at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Advertised monthly packages in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Read those two packages against each other. Eight online sessions a month at AED 799 is roughly twice the contact of four in-home sessions at AED 1,599 to 1,799, for less than half the money. The in-home figure is not a rip-off; it is what the format costs once travel is inside it. But a family deciding between them should see that the comparison is eight hours against eight hours at very different prices, or eight hours against four at double the cost.

The hourly bands behind all of this, read in October 2026: budget online AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; qualified online subject tutor AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; in-home AED 180 to 500 with travel included, Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350; specialists AED 200 to 450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270; premium examiner-led AED 500 to 650 and above, BartyED publishing AED 650.

For context, the comparison families most often make is against school fees rather than against other tutors. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total; Abu Dhabi fees are regulated separately by ADEK. Every tutoring figure quoted here is a market rate from a named published source, not an IB Gram price; ours comes after the free trial lesson.

The pool comparison, and what we do when the right tutor is not free

The final comparison is the one that justifies the format. An in-home arrangement selects from adults who will travel to Al Rawdah at the hour you need. An online arrangement selects from adults who have taught your child's course at their level. For AA Standard Level those sets overlap reasonably. For AA Higher Level Paper 3, or AI Higher Level statistics, they frequently do not overlap at all in a market the size of Abu Dhabi.

Being honest about that cuts both ways, because it means our own pool is finite too. Higher Level mathematics specialists fill up, particularly in the weeks before mock windows and internal assessment deadlines. When nobody is free for a course, you are told, given an expected wait, and offered the alternatives in writing rather than quietly matched to whoever is available.

Those alternatives are specific: another qualified tutor on the same course in a different slot; a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same IB course on Gulf Standard Time, disclosed before you book rather than after; shorter and more frequent sessions until the preferred slot clears; or a named wait. In DP1 term one, waiting is often the right answer rather than a disappointment, because nothing is yet urgent.

The free trial lesson is where all of these comparisons stop being abstract. One full lesson with the matched tutor, no card required, used to establish whether the course and level are right, where the marks are going, whether the Exploration is on track, and whether these two people work well together. If the match is wrong we change it. If the honest finding is that your child needs three sessions rather than thirty, that is what you should hear.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Rawdah

These notes exist to show what does and does not change across the central island. On course choice, paper structure and the Exploration the answer is the same everywhere; only timing moves.

Al Rawdah

Between Al Mushrif and Al Karamah, close to the main school corridor. Short runs make a 4.30pm slot workable, and two sibling sessions fit into one evening when no travel sits between them.

Al Mushrif

Neighbouring district with high school density. A Diploma student here faces the same AA and AI decision on the same timetable, which is why quotes differing between the two districts are quoting travel.

Al Karamah

The other immediate neighbour, with identical catchments and timings. Students from both districts often sit the same courses at the same schools, making shared revision practical.

Al Bateen

Villa communities west towards the marina with longer school runs. Evening sessions dominate, and Higher Level work benefits from ninety-minute slots that are easier to protect when nobody travels.

Al Nahyan

Dense residential area inside the same school network. Later school finishes at some schools push the first workable slot towards 5pm, worth confirming before fixing a weekly time.

Saadiyat Island

Premium international schools and larger Diploma cohorts, so a student there can usually find a classmate on the same course at the same level. Al Rawdah cohorts are often smaller, which makes a matched tutor more valuable.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Mainland communities with established IB provision. The comparison with the island is instructive: the course is identical, the commute is not, and the tutoring question lands the same way.

Khalifa City

Airport-side cluster where several schools finish earlier, opening a 3.30pm slot. Families with children on both sides of the bridge use that gap to stagger two subjects.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Rawdah

Al Rawdah, Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

These districts share a central school network in which Diploma places are a minority of provision. The practical consequence is small course cohorts: a student may be one of a handful taking Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in their year. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own ratings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the level and the target

AA or AI, Higher or Standard, the school, and what the student is aiming at after school. The last part matters because it determines whether the current level is the right one, which is a bigger question than any topic gap.

  2. 02

We check the comparison before selling hours

If the course or level looks wrong on the evidence, you hear that first. A short advisory session works sample questions from both courses and reports what happened, and the summary is written so you can take it to the school.

  3. 03

Matched to the exact course and level

An AA Higher Level student is matched to a tutor who teaches AA Higher Level and can talk through a Paper 3 question. Where the specialist is not free, you get the wait and the alternatives rather than a near-enough substitute.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson, then a plan with an order

One full lesson, no card required. The tutor locates the real gap, checks the Exploration position, and builds a plan that spends time in proportion to marks rather than in syllabus order.

  5. 05

Review against the log, then reduce

Every six to eight weeks the error log is compared with where it started. When the recurring failures have gone, the recommendation is fewer sessions or none. Renewal by default is how tutoring budgets quietly double.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The level conversation held honestly

A 7 at Standard Level usually serves a student better than a 4 at Higher Level, and we will say so. A provider whose first instinct is to encourage the higher level is selling hours rather than advising on a 45-point total.

Course fit checked against the real requirement

AA and AI diverge within a term. We check the named university's own admissions page for the intake year rather than repeating a generic mapping, because requirements vary between institutions and change between years.

Matched by course, not by distance

The adults who will drive to Al Rawdah are not the adults who have taught AA Higher Level. Online delivery makes course experience the selection criterion, which is the variable that actually moves a Paper 3 mark.

Rates compared as monthly budgets

Eight online sessions advertised at AED 799 a month against four in-home sessions at AED 1,599 to 1,799 is the comparison families need, and it comes with its sources. Our own fee follows the free trial lesson.

Academic honesty on the Exploration

A tutor narrows a question, teaches a technique and gives criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft. Nothing is written or calculated for the student, and no provider should offer to produce assessed work.

Availability and tutor location disclosed

Higher Level specialists fill up before mock windows. You are told the wait in writing, and where a tutor is based outside the UAE you hear it before booking rather than after the first invoice.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Rawdah: your questions answered

Is Higher Level maths worth taking if the university will accept Standard Level?+

Usually not. A 7 at Standard Level protects the 45-point total and frees hours for the subjects the offer genuinely depends on, while a 4 at Higher Level helps nobody. Higher Level adds a third paper worth 20% of the grade and a body of content the Standard student never meets. The exceptions are real: engineering, mathematics, physics and many economics routes commonly expect Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, so check the named programme's own admissions page for the intake year being applied to.

How early does the AA and AI decision become irreversible?+

In practice by the end of DP1 term one, and formally a little later depending on the school. The courses diverge quickly: an AA student meets implicit differentiation and complex numbers while an AI student meets chi-squared testing and the Poisson distribution, and those paths cannot be merged afterwards. That is why a single advisory conversation in Year 11, with sample questions from both courses worked in front of the student, is worth more than remedial tutoring in DP2.

Which Diploma maths course suits a student who likes statistics?+

Applications and Interpretation, in most cases, and it is worth saying that AI is genuinely harder than AA in the statistics strand rather than a lighter version of it. AI Higher Level reaches chi-squared testing, the Poisson distribution and hypothesis testing, which AA never covers. A statistically minded student pushed into AA for prestige tends to produce neither the grade nor the interest, and two years is long enough that engagement compounds into marks.

What does Paper 3 add that Standard Level students never see?+

Two extended problem-solving questions worth 20% of the Higher Level grade, running across syllabus topics and building from an accessible opening into unfamiliar territory. It rewards stamina and tidy notation rather than recall, and it cannot be prepared for by completing more short questions faster. This single component is the strongest practical reason to match a tutor to the exact level rather than to the subject, because a Standard Level specialist has never taught it.

We are choosing between the Diploma and A-Levels. How does maths compare?+

A-Level mathematics is narrower and deeper: three or four subjects, pure maths with mechanics or statistics, no coursework and pressure concentrated in the examination series. Diploma mathematics sits inside six subjects plus the core, carries a 20% Exploration, and spreads pressure across internal deadlines all year. A student certain about engineering who dislikes essay subjects often does better on A-Levels; a student who wants breadth or is undecided often does better on the Diploma.

How big is the jump from IGCSE maths into DP1?+

Narrow but steep. An Extended or Higher-tier IGCSE student arrives with strong algebra and trigonometry and essentially no calculus, and DP1 introduces calculus quickly while assuming algebraic fluency at speed. The specific gaps are surds and index laws under time pressure, standard form, the factor and remainder theorems, and writing a solution a marker can follow. Eight to twelve sessions in term one normally closes it; the same gap found in DP2 costs considerably more.

Why is buying help in September cheaper than buying it in February?+

Because in September the problem is one topic and in February it is one topic plus everything built on top of it. A calculus gap identified in term one takes a handful of sessions. The same gap discovered in a January mock has to be fixed alongside the newer content that also needs attention, which doubles the work and compresses it into less time. Families understandably wait for a report card to justify the spend, and that delay is the most expensive habit in Diploma tutoring.

Does an Al Rawdah family pay more for maths tuition than one in Al Mushrif?+

For online tuition there is no reason for any difference, and if a quote moves between two central addresses, what moved is travel. In-home rates do vary by distance, with published bands of AED 180 to 500 an hour including the journey, Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350. A tutor who can chain two visits in a school-dense district sometimes quotes slightly less. None of this affects the course, the papers or the Exploration.

How does a monthly package compare between online and in-home tuition?+

Advertised packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. That is eight hours of contact against eight hours, at less than half the price, or eight sessions against four depending on how you count. The in-home figure is not unreasonable; it is what the format costs once travel sits inside it. Seeing both numbers together is what lets a family decide deliberately.

Can a tutor tell us whether our child is on the wrong course?+

A good one will, and it is uncomfortable rather than routine, which is why some providers avoid it. The evidence comes from working sample questions from both courses and both levels with the student and watching fluency, stamina and the response to an unfamiliar problem. A written summary of that session is something a family can take to the school. A first session that reports a wrong course is worth more than a term of competent teaching in the wrong one.

What does an AA Higher Level tutor do that a general maths tutor cannot?+

Teach proof by induction properly, work complex numbers in both Cartesian and polar form, handle implicit differentiation and differential equations, and prepare a student for Paper 3 by working whole extended questions untimed and then timed. A general maths tutor can usually support Standard Level content competently. The Higher Level extension is a different kind of mathematics rather than more of the same, and it shows within two or three sessions.

How is the Exploration marked, and what can a tutor legitimately do?+

It is marked out of 20 across five criteria, with use of mathematics carrying the most marks and presentation, communication, personal engagement and reflection carrying the rest. That means more than half the marks sit outside mathematical difficulty. A tutor can narrow the question, check the mathematics sits at course level, teach a technique the student applies, and give criterion-level feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor cannot write, calculate or edit any part of it to completion.

Are IB maths tutors in Abu Dhabi required to hold a permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so distrust any amount quoted at you.

What if the AI Higher Level specialist we need is booked out?+

You are told, with an expected wait and the alternatives written down: another qualified tutor on the same course at a different time, a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course on Gulf Standard Time and disclosed before booking, shorter and more frequent sessions until the preferred slot clears, or a named wait. AI Higher Level is the narrowest specialism of the four combinations, and availability is tightest in the weeks before mock windows and Exploration deadlines.

Settle the course question, then book the hours

Before paying for an IB maths tutor in Al Rawdah, it is worth knowing whether the course and the level are the right ones, because that decision outweighs the choice of tutor. Tell us the course, the level, the school and what your child is aiming at afterwards, and we will match a Diploma mathematics specialist and say plainly what the evidence shows, including when the honest answer is to change course rather than to buy lessons. The first lesson is free. Tuition runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we offer only in India.
