IB MYP Online Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Hiring an IB MYP online tutor in Abu Dhabi is a budgeting decision as much as an academic one, and almost nobody in this market publishes a number. This page does: the AED bands providers actually advertise, with the source and the month each was read, why a Middle Years hour is priced below a Diploma hour, what moves the quote in this emirate specifically, and the cost of shifting one criterion level. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time, free trial first, one per student.

  • Every AED figure carries the provider who published it and the month read
  • Market rates, not an IB Gram price list; our pricing comes from a consultation
  • One-to-one lessons over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why nobody publishes an MYP price, and what the numbers are

Three of the six best-ranked tutoring pages for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Abu Dhabi family transacts in. One agency's own list of frequently asked questions includes the question of what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. The effect is that a parent trying to budget for Middle Years support has to collect quotes one at a time and has no way to tell whether a number is normal. This page starts with the numbers instead.

The published positions, read in October 2026, run as follows. At the budget end of online tutoring, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 per hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In the qualified-teacher band, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey puts IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and home tutors at AED 200 to 500. BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Monthly packages seen in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

Those are market rates published by other providers, not an IB Gram price list, and they are quoted here because a parent cannot make a sensible decision without them. What IB Gram charges comes out of a consultation, because the honest answer depends on the subject group, the year, the number of sessions and whether the work is weekly or a short block. The free trial lesson comes first either way, one per student, with no card required.

The more useful part of the page is what moves a Middle Years number up or down, because it is not the same set of variables that moves a Diploma one. An MYP hour is generally priced below a Diploma hour, and for good reasons: the content is less specialised and the tutor pool is wider. There are three specific cases where that logic reverses in Abu Dhabi, and they are the ones where families get a quote they were not expecting. Language Acquisition in a particular phase, Design with its documentation-heavy assessment model, and the final-year Personal Project all draw on a much narrower pool than MYP Mathematics does.

Finally, a unit of measurement that is more honest than AED per hour. The Middle Years Programme is marked in criterion levels, four per subject, each from 0 to 8, and a level only moves when the school next marks a task assessing that criterion. That means the number of assessment opportunities in a term, not the number of hours bought, is what caps how fast progress can appear. Pricing a term of tutoring against the criterion you are trying to shift tells you whether the spend is proportionate. Pricing it against hours tells you almost nothing.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Price tracks programme more than it tracks subject, because the specialisation required and the size of the available tutor pool both change at each transition. The four rows below are the ones that matter for budgeting in an Abu Dhabi household.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

Primary Years Programme

No external examination, progress evidenced through portfolios, observation and whatever standardised measures a school runs. Sessions are short and the skills being built are reading fluency, number facts and written structure. The widest tutor pool of any programme, which is reflected in price.

Primary support is the cheapest hour available in Abu Dhabi and also the one with the highest variance in quality, because a wide pool means little filtering. Buying the budget band here is defensible in a way it is not higher up, provided somebody is checking that reading and number work is actually progressing.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, four published criteria per subject, each scored 0-8 by best fit against descriptors. Assessment is task-based rather than examination-based until the final year, where some schools add on-screen eAssessment or ePortfolios alongside the Personal Project.

The middle of the price range in Abu Dhabi and the band with the sharpest internal spread. MYP Mathematics draws a wide pool and prices near the qualified-teacher band; Design, a specific Language Acquisition phase, or Personal Project supervision support draw a narrow one and price closer to specialist rates.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. External papers plus an internally marked, externally moderated component in each subject, against published criteria and boundaries.

The most expensive band, and the gap is real rather than a mark-up. A Higher Level subject with a moderated internal assessment needs a tutor who has taught that exact course through a final session, and in Abu Dhabi the pool for several Higher Level subjects is thin enough that scarcity alone sets the price.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE after MYP 3

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel courses that several Abu Dhabi schools run in place of MYP 4 and 5. Externally examined with syllabus codes, tiering decisions and published series dates, which makes preparation more standardised and the tutor pool larger.

Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 against IB from AED 200, and that gap is a reasonable guide to the difference across the market. If your Abu Dhabi school moves students into IGCSE in Year 10, budget on the lower band from that point and on more predictable session counts.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Within the Middle Years Programme the price differences are driven by how many tutors genuinely cover a subject group at the year you need. The notes below say where each one sits and why.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended · MYP 1-5

The widest pool in the programme and therefore the most competitive rate. Plenty of tutors can teach the content; far fewer work in criterion terms, and investigating patterns and communicating are where levels are lost. Pay for the second kind, which still sits inside the qualified-teacher band.

Sciences

MYP 1-5 · integrated and separate

A wide pool for content and a narrow one for the investigation criteria, which is where the marks sit. Expect the qualified-teacher band for general support and the upper part of it for somebody who has actually marked inquiring and designing against the descriptors.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Mid-band and plentiful, with the caveat that general English tutors are not the same as MYP Language and Literature tutors. Analysing is assessed as comment on how a text works, not as summary, and that distinction is what you are paying for.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6 · MYP 1-5

The least predictable price in the programme, because the pool depends on the language and the phase. French and Spanish at lower phases are straightforward; a less common language at a higher phase is a scarcity purchase and will be quoted accordingly, if it can be quoted at all.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Mid-band. The useful spend here is on thinking critically and investigating, which is essay structure and research process rather than content. A tutor from a history or geography background covers it; one from a general humanities background may not know the criteria.

Design

MYP 1-5

Surprisingly scarce and therefore priced above what families expect from a subject they think of as practical. The assessed work is the design folder, so you are buying documentation coaching, and few tutors in this market have marked it.

Arts

MYP 1-5 · visual and performing

Narrow pool, and most of the usable work is on the process journal rather than the practical piece. Worth buying as a short block before a unit deadline rather than as a weekly commitment, which keeps the cost proportionate to what can actually be changed.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Rarely tutored and rarely needed, with one exception: the written planning and reflection criteria, where capable athletes lose levels. A short block of two or three sessions is almost always the right purchase here rather than anything ongoing.

Arabic and the federally required subjects

MYP 1-5 · Arab and non-Arab streams

Priced separately from the MYP language subjects and quoted according to the stream. Confirm which stream your child is registered in before asking for a rate, because booking the wrong one buys teaching against material your child is not assessed on.

Personal Project support

MYP 5

The narrowest pool and the highest band inside the MYP, because the work is supervision-adjacent and the honesty boundary is strict. Usually bought as a short block of three or four sessions around scope and journal habits rather than as a weekly arrangement.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases at three different price points, which is more useful than three descriptions of the same weekly session. Pick by what you are trying to change, then price it.

Weekly one-to-one, one named criterion

A 45 or 60-minute session each week against a single named criterion in one subject, with a short task between sessions so there is something to mark before the school's next assessment. The standard purchase and the one most of the published monthly estimates describe.

  • Bestimate's monthly estimate for weekly one-hour work: AED 600-1,200 mid-market
  • 45 minutes is a legitimate and cheaper unit for MYP 1-2
  • One criterion named per term, so the spend has a target
  • Dated session note after each lesson

Fortnightly cycle with set work between

Half the sessions and most of the value, because the limiting factor in the MYP is how often a criterion is assessed rather than how many hours are taught. The tutor sets and marks work in the off week, which keeps the assessment opportunities and halves the contact cost.

  • Roughly half the cost of a weekly arrangement
  • Marked work in the intervening week rather than nothing
  • Suits households running two children on one budget
  • Not suitable where a habit is being built from scratch

Short diagnostic or project block

Three or four sessions with a defined end, bought for a specific purpose: a pre-report diagnosis, a stalled Personal Project, the written criteria in a subject nobody tutors weekly. Ends with something written rather than with a renewal conversation.

  • Fixed number of sessions agreed in advance
  • A written output you can take to the school consultation
  • No ongoing commitment unless you ask for one
  • The proportionate purchase for Arts, Design and PHE criteria

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What an MYP hour costs, and why it is not a Diploma hour

An online Middle Years hour in this market sits below an online Diploma hour, and the published rates show the shape of it. Unitors advertises IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200, a gap that roughly tracks the difference between externally examined secondary work and the Diploma. Bestimate's 2026 survey puts IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. At the budget end, Tutopiya publishes from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 for online tutoring generally, without distinguishing programme. All figures were read in October 2026.

The reason a Middle Years hour prices lower is supply rather than quality. MYP content in most subject groups is within reach of any competent subject teacher, so the available pool is wide, and a wide pool pushes rates down. A Higher Level Diploma subject with a moderated internal assessment needs somebody who has taught that specific course to a final session, and in several subjects that pool is small enough that scarcity alone sets the number.

Three cases reverse this inside the MYP, and they are where Abu Dhabi families get an unexpected quote. Language Acquisition in a specific language and phase can be scarcer than any Diploma subject. Design is assessed through the folder rather than the artefact, and very few tutors in this market have marked that folder against the criteria. Personal Project support is supervision-adjacent work with a strict honesty boundary and the narrowest pool in the programme. For those three, expect a figure closer to the specialist band and treat a very low quote as a signal that the person has not done the work before.

The five things that move an MYP quote in this emirate

  • Subject group, not subject, sets the band inside the MYP
  • Arabic stream support is a second purchase, best sequenced across terms
  • On-screen eAssessment in the final year narrows the pool further
  • Demand peaks before reporting rounds, when least can be changed
  • Early-evening slots are the scarce resource, not the tutors

Abu Dhabi has its own cost drivers, and they are not the ones a generic tutoring price guide lists. The first is the subject group rather than the subject: a Mathematics request and a Design request at the same year level sit in different bands because the pools are different sizes, and a parent who assumes a single MYP rate will be surprised by the second quote.

The second is the Arabic requirement. Private schools in the UAE teach Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, and the Arab and non-Arab streams are genuinely different subjects with different material and different languages of instruction. A household needing Arabic support alongside the MYP subjects is making two purchases, not one, and the honest planning move is to sequence them across terms rather than run both at once. The third is the final-year assessment model: where a school enters students for on-screen MYP eAssessment or ePortfolios, final-year support becomes more specialised and prices accordingly, so establish with the coordinator whether your school does.

The fourth is timing within the term. Abu Dhabi schools cluster their assessment, and demand for tutors rises sharply in the weeks before a reporting round, which is also the point at which the least progress can be bought. The fifth is the evening slot. Nothing about an online rate depends on distance, but the early-evening slots that a mainland household can actually use are finite, and they fill first. Booking in August for an October start costs nothing and secures the slot that makes the whole arrangement survivable.

03

Cost per criterion level, which is the only unit that matters

AED per hour is the wrong unit for the Middle Years Programme, and it is why parents feel they cannot tell whether tutoring is good value. The programme is marked in criterion levels: four criteria per subject, each from 0 to 8, awarded by best fit against published descriptors. A level changes when the school next marks a task assessing that criterion, which in some subject groups happens twice a term. So the hard ceiling on progress is the assessment calendar, not the number of hours a family buys.

Reframed properly, the question becomes how much it costs to shift one named criterion, and the answer is usually fewer sessions than parents expect for process criteria and more than they expect for content ones. Communicating in Mathematics, which marks whether reasoning is presented so a reader can follow it, is often two or three sessions of habit work. Inquiring and designing in Sciences, which requires a documented investigation process, is a term. Knowing and understanding, where the gap is content, depends entirely on how much content is missing and is the only one where more hours genuinely buy more progress.

The practical use of this framing is that it stops a household buying hours against the wrong target. A student sitting at 7 on knowing and understanding and 3 on investigating does not need more teaching; they need a process habit, and three sessions plus consistent task practice will do more than a term of content revision costing five times as much. Ask any tutor to name the target criterion and estimate the sessions before you agree a rate. The estimate is the useful number.

Five years of the MYP, costed as a whole

Middle Years support is usually bought as a reaction to one report, and priced one term at a time. Looked at across the five years the programme runs, the arithmetic changes the decision. A household that buys one weekly session for the whole of MYP 1 to 5 is making a very large commitment; one that buys a short targeted block in three of those five years is making a modest one, and in most cases it buys more.

Bestimate's published monthly estimates give a usable frame for the sums: AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end for a weekly one-hour session, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. A school year of roughly nine teaching months at the mid-market estimate is therefore a five-figure annual commitment per subject. Across five MYP years, continuously, that is a sum most families would want to see justified against a specific target rather than against a general sense of support.

The alternative pattern that works is targeted and cheaper. Three or four sessions in MYP 1 or 2 to establish habits and written structure, while they are cheap to change. Nothing in MYP 3 unless a specific criterion stalls. A term in MYP 4 on the process criteria that the next programme will rely on. A short block in MYP 5 on the Personal Project and the route decision. That shape costs a fraction of continuous tutoring and front-loads the spend where the habit returns compound, which is the genuine argument for acting early rather than a sales line about getting ahead.

05

The costs around the tuition that nobody quotes you

  • Headphones with a microphone, and a second camera view for mathematics
  • Ask the coordinator about final-year entry arrangements and any charges
  • Confirm the Arabic stream before booking anything
  • One diagnostic session is cheaper than a term aimed at the wrong target

The hourly rate is rarely the whole number. Several real costs attach to Middle Years support in Abu Dhabi, and none of them appears in a tutoring quote. The first is equipment, and it is small but genuinely necessary: headphones with a microphone rather than laptop speakers, and for mathematics a second device or a phone propped over the page so the tutor can see written working. A tutor who cannot see the working cannot diagnose anything, which turns a paid hour into a conversation.

The second is school-side charges in the final year. Where a school enters students for on-screen MYP eAssessment or ePortfolio submission, there may be an entry charge, and the amount is set by the school rather than published centrally. Ask the coordinator what the entry arrangements and costs are for your child's subjects rather than assuming. The same applies to any resource the school requires for the Personal Project, which varies enormously with what the student chooses to do.

The third is the cost of the wrong purchase, which is the largest hidden number in this market. A term of content revision bought for a student whose problem is a process criterion produces no report movement and roughly a five-figure sense of grievance. A tutor booked for the wrong Arabic stream teaches material the child is not assessed on. A weekly commitment bought for a subject the school assesses twice a term spends most of its hours in the gaps between assessments. Each of those is avoidable with one diagnostic session, which is the cheapest hour on this page.

06

Where online delivery actually changes the number

Comparing an online quote with a visiting quote on the hourly rate alone misses most of the difference, because the two have different cost structures rather than different prices for the same thing. Travel is the obvious element: a visiting tutor's week is built around journeys, and whether or not the drive is itemised, it is paid for in the rate and in the inflexibility of the slot. Published figures bear this out, with in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and home tutors at AED 200 to 500 in Bestimate's 2026 survey against online rates starting far lower.

Three less obvious elements matter more for a Middle Years budget. Minimum session length is one: a 45-minute online session is a normal unit and for an MYP 1 or 2 student it is the right one, whereas almost nobody drives across Abu Dhabi for 45 minutes. Cancellation loss is another: a child home ill loses a session either way, but a visiting arrangement loses the tutor's travel time too and the policy reflects that. The third is the fortnightly option, which only really works online, because marked work can move between tutor and student without anybody travelling.

The element that does not change is the one families assume will. Online delivery does not reduce what a scarce specialist charges. A tutor who has marked MYP Design folders or teaches a rare Language Acquisition phase is scarce in absolute terms, and removing the drive does not add anybody to that pool. What online delivery does is give an Abu Dhabi household access to that person at all, which for several subject groups in this programme is the difference between a specialist and whoever was available nearby.

07

Buying the cheap hour: when it is sensible and when it is waste

The budget band is real and it has a legitimate use. Tutopiya publishes online tutoring from AED 33 to 52 per hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, and at those rates a household can buy regular supervised homework time for a younger Middle Years student. For an MYP 1 or 2 child whose problem is starting work rather than understanding it, a reliable adult presence four times a week at the budget rate may do more than a single specialist hour costing the same in total.

Where the cheap hour is wasted is any criterion that is marked against descriptors the tutor has never read. A budget tutor can teach content accurately and still produce no change in a report, because the levels being lost are in investigating, communicating or reflecting, and those require somebody who knows what the descriptor band above actually asks for. Paying a low rate for work against a process criterion is not a slower route to the same place; it is usually no route at all.

The test is simple enough to apply before booking. Ask the tutor which criterion they would target and what the band above requires. A tutor at any price point who answers in terms of topics and revision is being honest about what they do, and that is fine for homework supervision. A tutor who answers in terms of a named criterion and a descriptor strand is doing the other job. Buy the first cheaply and the second properly, and do not expect the first to deliver the second at any number of hours.

08

VAT, invoices and what to settle before the first payment

  • Confirm what the rate includes: marking, tasks, notes, session length
  • Ask whether the quoted figure includes VAT and whether a TRN is held
  • Settle notice, pause and replacement terms before the first payment
  • Ask about the MoHRE permit and about your child's own school

Before any money moves, three things are worth having in writing, and none of them is controversial enough to cause friction with a reasonable provider. The first is what the rate covers: session length, whether marking between sessions is included, who sets the between-session task, and what written record you receive. A quote of AED 250 an hour that includes marked work between sessions is a different purchase from the same number for contact time only.

The second is tax treatment, stated as a question rather than an assumption. Ask whether the quoted rate includes value added tax and whether the provider holds a tax registration number. This page does not state how UAE VAT applies to tuition fees, because that treatment is set by the Federal Tax Authority and should be read from its own guidance rather than from a tutoring website. What a parent needs is simply to know whether the number they were quoted is the number they will pay.

The third is the cancellation, pause and replacement position. What notice is required, what happens if a child is ill, whether a block can be paused over a school holiday or during Ramadan, and what happens if the match is wrong after two sessions. Ask also whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, and whether they teach at your child's school, since ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of their own enrolled students. Those two questions cost nothing to ask and are the ones most families never think of.

09

If you only have one term's budget, spend it here

A household with one term of tutoring money and a child somewhere in the Middle Years Programme has a genuine allocation problem, and the default answer, the weakest subject, is usually wrong. The weakest subject on a report is often weak for a content reason that will be retaught anyway. The expensive problem is a process criterion sitting at 3 or 4 across several subjects at once, because that pattern will follow the student into the next programme and get more expensive every year.

The order that produces most value from a single term is this. Start with one diagnostic session that reads the report and the last two marked tasks and names the criterion pattern. Then spend the bulk of the term on one process criterion in one subject, with marked work between sessions, because process habits transfer across subjects in a way content does not. Reserve two sessions at the end for the written review, which is what you take into the school consultation.

What not to do with a single term's budget is spread it across three subjects, buy the final weeks before a report, or put it on the subject the child dislikes most. Thin coverage produces no marked evidence in any subject. The final weeks before a report arrive after the assessments that set it. And a disliked subject usually needs a conversation with the school rather than a tutor. Each of those is an easy mistake because each feels responsible, which is exactly why it is worth writing the allocation down before the first session rather than after the third.

Where we tutor

What changes the number by community in Abu Dhabi

Location does not change an online rate directly, and it changes several things that feed into it: which schools a community feeds, which subject groups come up, and what time of day a session has to happen. The notes below are about the cost consequences rather than the academics.

Khalifa City

The highest MYP volume in the emirate and the most competitive quotes, because tutors who teach these subject groups are already working in this corridor. The cost pressure here is the evening slot: a 17:30 start is in demand and the earliest slots get taken first.

Saadiyat Island

MYP 5 and Personal Project enquiries dominate, which sits in the narrowest and dearest part of the Middle Years market. A short block of three or four sessions is the proportionate purchase, not a weekly commitment through the year.

Al Reem Island

Frequent mid-year arrivals, which means diagnostic sessions rather than long programmes. Budget for two or three sessions to establish which criteria the new school is actually marking before committing to a term.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Households with children in two programmes at once, so the real budgeting question is allocation between an MYP child and a Diploma one. The Diploma hour costs more and the MYP hour buys a longer-lasting habit.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Larger families and tighter budgets, where the fortnightly cycle with set tasks between sessions is usually the best value available. It halves the cost per child while preserving most of the assessment opportunities.

Yas Island

Younger cohorts and activity-heavy weeks. The weekend morning slot is the one that survives here, and a 45-minute session rather than a full hour keeps both the attention and the cost proportionate for MYP 1 and 2.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mixed-curriculum neighbourhood where parents compare MYP tutoring quotes against IGCSE ones and find the IGCSE band lower. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200, which explains most of the gap.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Bilingual households managing the Arabic stream alongside MYP language subjects, which is effectively two purchases. Sequencing them across terms rather than running both at once is what keeps the total manageable.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Saadiyat IB schools

These schools generate the MYP 4 and 5 enquiries, including Personal Project work, which sits at the upper end of the Middle Years range. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; no affiliation with any of them exists.

  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • The Pearl Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Khalifa City, Al Raha and mainland schools

A cluster where IB and British-curriculum schools sit side by side, so families here are often pricing MYP tutoring against IGCSE tutoring for a child of the same age. The published gap between the two bands is a reasonable guide.

  • GEMS World Academy - Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what you want to change, not which subject

Send the report, the last two marked tasks and their clarifications. A tutor who reads them can name the criterion that is costing levels, which is what makes an estimate meaningful. A subject name on its own produces a generic rate and a generic plan.

  2. 02

Ask for an estimate in sessions, then in AED

Any competent tutor can say roughly how many sessions a named criterion needs: two or three for a habit, a term for a documented investigation process. Multiply that out yourself. A rate without a session estimate is a number you cannot evaluate.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson at no charge, no card required. It should end with a target criterion, a reason and an honest session estimate. If it ends with enthusiasm and no diagnosis, you have learnt something useful about the tutor at no cost.

  4. 04

    Settle the terms in writing

Session length, whether marking between sessions is included, notice and pause policy, what happens if the match is wrong, whether the quoted figure includes VAT, and whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition permit. Five minutes, before any payment.

  5. 05

Review on the evidence at week eight

Read the session notes, the tutor-marked tasks and the first school-marked task on the target criterion. Continue, change target, change tutor or stop. Buying another term because the sessions felt productive is how a modest budget becomes a large one.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Numbers with a source and a date

Every AED figure here names the provider who published it or the survey it came from, with October 2026 as the read month. Three of the best-ranked pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote in dollars.

Market rates, not a disguised price list

The bands on this page are what other providers advertise. What IB Gram charges comes out of a consultation after the free trial, because the honest figure depends on subject group, year, frequency and whether marked work between sessions is included.

Priced against the criterion, not the hour

Tutors give a session estimate for a named criterion before a rate is agreed, because the assessment calendar caps how fast a level can move. That makes the spend evaluable rather than open-ended.

Cheaper units genuinely available

Forty-five-minute sessions for younger Middle Years students, and a fortnightly cycle with marked work in between for households running two children on one budget. Both are hard to buy from a visiting tutor and straightforward online.

Honest about where a low rate works

The budget band is useful for homework supervision at MYP 1 and 2 and ineffective against a process criterion, and we say which is which. Paying a low rate for descriptor-level work is usually no route to the result rather than a slower one.

No claimed approvals and no UAE office

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education or the IB, occupies no UAE premises, and publishes no statistic it cannot evidence. Regulators are explained here only where they affect your decision.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does an online MYP tutor charge per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Published market rates, read in October 2026, run from AED 33 to 65 at the budget end, where Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In the qualified-teacher band Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150, and TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 survey puts specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. Common MYP subjects usually sit between AED 150 and 300; Design, Arts, scarce language phases and Personal Project work sit higher because the pool is far smaller.

Why is Middle Years tutoring cheaper than Diploma tutoring?+

Supply, not quality. Most MYP content is within reach of any competent subject teacher, so the pool is wide and rates fall. A Higher Level Diploma subject with an externally moderated internal assessment needs somebody who has taught that exact course through to a final session, and for several subjects that pool is small enough that scarcity sets the price. The published gap is visible in Unitors' own rates, IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200. Three MYP areas reverse the logic: Design, scarce Language Acquisition phases and Personal Project support.

Is a tutor at AED 50 an hour ever a sensible purchase?+

Yes, for one specific job. For an MYP 1 or 2 student whose problem is starting work rather than understanding it, regular supervised homework time at the budget rate can do more than one specialist hour costing the same in total. Where it fails is any criterion marked against descriptors the tutor has never read. A budget tutor can teach content accurately and produce no report movement, because the lost levels sit in investigating, communicating or reflecting. Ask which criterion they would target; the answer tells you which job they are doing.

How many sessions does it take to move one criterion level?+

It depends entirely on which criterion. Communicating in Mathematics, which marks whether reasoning is written out so a reader can follow it, is often two or three sessions of habit work. Analysing in Language and Literature is usually four to six. Inquiring and designing in Sciences is a term, because it needs a documented process and is only assessed when a formal investigation is set. Knowing and understanding depends on how much content is missing and is the only target where more hours reliably buy more progress. Ask for the estimate before agreeing a rate.

Does a monthly package work out cheaper than paying by the hour?+

Sometimes, and the comparison is only fair if both quotes describe the same thing. Packages seen in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market. Before comparing, establish session length, whether marking between sessions is included, what happens to unused sessions, and the notice period. Those four answers usually matter more than the headline figure.

Do quoted tutoring rates in the UAE include VAT?+

Ask, every time, and get the answer in writing. This page does not state how UAE value added tax applies to tuition, because that treatment is set by the Federal Tax Authority and should be read from its own guidance rather than from a tutoring website. What you need as a parent is narrower: whether the figure you were quoted is the figure you will pay, and whether the provider holds a tax registration number. A provider who cannot answer either question clearly is telling you something about their invoicing generally.

Is it better value to start tutoring in MYP 2 or wait until MYP 5?+

Earlier is cheaper for process habits and later is cheaper for content. A process criterion sitting at 3 or 4 in MYP 2 is a habit, and three or four sessions can change it while it is still cheap. The same gap discovered in the second Diploma year costs several times as much, because the stakes are higher and the pool is dearer. Content gaps are different: much of what is weak in MYP 2 gets retaught anyway. The targeted pattern that works is short blocks in MYP 1 or 2, a term in MYP 4, and a project block in MYP 5.

Can we book 45-minute sessions instead of a full hour?+

Yes, and for MYP 1 and 2 students it is usually the better unit as well as the cheaper one. Attention at eleven or twelve does not reliably hold for sixty minutes after a long school run, and a session that ends while the student is still engaged produces more than one that ends when they have stopped. Forty-five minutes is a normal online unit; it is rarely available from a visiting tutor, because almost nobody drives across Abu Dhabi for three quarters of an hour.

Does my child need a separate tutor for each MYP subject?+

Usually not, and the reason is about criteria rather than about subjects. If the pattern on the report is a process criterion sitting low across several subjects, one tutor working on that habit in one subject will produce change in the others, because the habit transfers. Separate tutors make sense where two genuinely different content gaps exist, or where one subject group is specialised enough to need its own person, such as Design or a particular Language Acquisition phase. Spreading one budget across three subjects usually produces no marked evidence in any of them.

What does Personal Project support cost, and is it worth buying?+

It sits at the upper end of the Middle Years range, in Bestimate's specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above, because the pool of tutors who have worked within the project's honesty boundary is small. It is worth buying as a short block of three or four sessions rather than as a weekly arrangement. Most stalled projects fail on scope rather than effort, and questioning a goal until the student narrows it themselves usually unblocks it in one session. No tutor may contribute any part of the work itself.

Are there extra costs for MYP eAssessment in the final year?+

Possibly, and the figure is set by your school rather than published centrally, so ask the MYP coordinator directly. Not every school enters students for on-screen eAssessment or ePortfolio submission, and the subjects entered vary, which means the first thing to establish is whether yours does and in which subjects. It matters for budgeting in two ways: any entry charge the school passes on, and the fact that final-year support for an assessed subject draws on a narrower and dearer pool of tutors than general MYP work.

Why would a Language Acquisition tutor cost more than a Mathematics one?+

Because the pool is smaller and the match is narrower. MYP Mathematics is taught by a very wide set of tutors, which keeps rates competitive. Language Acquisition is assessed in phases rather than year groups, and a request for a particular language at a particular phase can be scarcer than any Diploma subject. French and Spanish at lower phases are straightforward; a less commonly taught language at a higher phase is a scarcity purchase. A very low quote for one of those is usually a signal that the tutor has not worked in that phase before.

Is group tutoring cheaper for an MYP student?+

Per hour, yes, with centre and group packages advertised in this market from around AED 799 a month. Whether it is better value depends on what you are buying. Group work suits a confident student who wants structure and pace, and it works against the specific problem most Middle Years students have, which is a single criterion that needs individual diagnosis and marked work. A group cannot mark your child's investigation against the descriptors each fortnight. The honest middle option is a fortnightly one-to-one cycle with set work between sessions.

What should I settle in writing before the first payment?+

Five things. What the rate covers, including session length and whether marking between sessions is included. Whether the quoted figure includes VAT and whether a tax registration number is held. The notice, pause and replacement terms, including what happens if the match is wrong after two sessions. Whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. And whether they teach at your child's school, since ADEK ethics rules bar that arrangement.

What is the cheapest honest way to support an MYP student in Abu Dhabi?+

Ask the school first, because most Abu Dhabi schools already run departmental clinics and catch-up sessions inside the fees you pay. Then buy one diagnostic session to name the criterion pattern on the report. Then spend a single term on one process criterion in one subject, with marked work between sessions, because process habits transfer to the subjects you are not paying for. That sequence costs a fraction of continuous weekly tutoring across five years and, for most students, produces more durable change.

Get the session estimate before you get the rate

The AED bands on this page are the market's, published by named providers and read in October 2026, and they exist here because a parent cannot budget against silence. What turns a band into a decision is the session estimate for a named criterion, which any competent tutor can give you after reading a report and two marked tasks. Send those, take the free trial lesson, and ask what the target criterion is and how many sessions it needs. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
