IB Maths Tutor in Al Falah

Hiring an IB maths tutor in Al Falah is a two-year financial decision, not an hourly one. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level carries three papers plus an exploration worth a fifth of the grade, all of it spread across twenty-four months, so the hourly rate tells a parent almost nothing useful. This page prices the whole course from published Abu Dhabi market figures, sets out the route decision that changes the total more than any discount, and names where the money is actually wasted. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

  • Costed per course and level, not per hour, with every band sourced
  • The Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation route decision, priced
  • Paper weightings for both routes at Standard and Higher Level
  • Free trial lesson first, no card, quote after the diagnosis

IB & IGCSE in Al Falah

Price the course, not the hour

Parents in Al Falah comparing IB maths tutors almost always start by comparing hourly rates, and the hourly rate is close to meaningless in this subject. The reason is structural. A Diploma maths course runs for twenty-four months, carries two or three written papers depending on the level, and includes an exploration written at home across months that is worth about a fifth of the final grade. A number per hour cannot describe a commitment shaped like that, and families who choose on the hourly figure routinely spend more in total than families who plan the whole course at a higher rate.

Here is the market, in AED, with sources named. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, and Unitors lists IB from AED 200. Specialists are quoted at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate showing AED 200 to 450 plus for exam-year specialists. Premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350. Monthly packages in the market sit around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Those numbers become useful only once they are multiplied by a plan. Fortnightly support in one maths subject across two Diploma years is roughly forty hours. Weekly across the same period is nearer eighty. A single exam-term intensive is twenty to twenty-four hours bought at the worst possible moment, when a fifth of the grade has already been produced and cannot be revisited. The arithmetic routinely surprises families: the spread-out plan at the middle band often costs less than the panicked plan at the same band, and it buys supervision of coursework the intensive cannot touch.

The largest single cost variable is not the rate at all. It is the route. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different courses with different demands, and a student sitting the wrong one needs more support for a worse result over two years. Getting that decision right in Year 11, or correcting it in the first weeks of Diploma Year 1, saves more money than any discount in this market. There is a comparison table below rather than a recommendation, because the right route depends on the student and on what the university they are aiming at publishes.

One statement of model before the detail. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For Al Falah families delivery is one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, which is also the cheaper half of the comparison above, since the in-home premium in a community this far from the island is largely a travel charge. We publish no rate card on this page: the trial lesson is free with no card required, and a quote follows the diagnosis so it is attached to a plan rather than to a price list.

At a glance

  • A Diploma maths plan is spent across twenty-four months, not one term
  • The exploration is about a fifth of the grade and is written at home over months
  • Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level sits three papers; Standard Level sits two
  • Published market bands run from roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour
  • The route decision changes the total cost more than any rate negotiation
  • IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three places a cost conversation starts, and the honest total is different in each. Where a family enters the course changes what the money has to buy.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Year 1 mathematics

The cheapest and most effective entry point. Content is being met for the first time, the exploration has not been started, and habits such as writing visible method and defining variables can still be built rather than repaired. Fortnightly support here usually costs less across two years than a weekly intensive in the final spring, and it produces a better internal mark.

Al Falah students commute to Diploma schools in the Khalifa City, Al Raha, Yas Island and island clusters, and the journey eats exactly the independent study hours the exploration needs. Starting in Year 1 is partly a budget decision and partly a scheduling one, because Year 2 evenings in this community are already full.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Year 2 mathematics

The most common and most expensive entry point. By now the exploration is written or nearly written, so a fifth of the grade is largely settled, and the available work is paper technique: Paper 1 without a calculator in Analysis and Approaches, the longer problems on Paper 2, and Paper 3 at Higher Level. Effective, and narrower than a family usually expects.

Families here often start after a disappointing set of Year 2 mocks, which is a reasonable trigger. The honest framing is that the same budget spent twelve months earlier would have covered both the papers and the exploration. If you are reading this in Diploma Year 1, that sentence is the whole value of this page.

Pre-DPAges 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, choosing the maths route

Two to four sessions, used to answer one question: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. It is the cheapest intervention available in the entire programme and the one almost nobody buys. A student placed in the wrong route needs continuous support for two years and still finishes below where the other route would have left them.

The route should be decided against what the student's intended universities publish, not against prestige. Engineering and mathematics programmes commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, while many business, economics and social-science programmes accept either. Check the specific programme's published requirement rather than relying on a general reputation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per subject tracks how much of the grade sits outside the exam hall and how scarce the specialism is. These are the mathematics courses and the neighbouring subjects Al Falah families most often pay for together.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Two papers at forty per cent each, one without a calculator, plus the exploration at twenty. The non-calculator paper is where most of the tutoring value sits, and it is a technique problem rather than a content problem, so interventions are short and measurable.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty per cent, plus the exploration at twenty. The most expensive maths course to support, because Paper 3 rewards extended problem solving that cannot be drilled from a topic list and needs practice over months.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

A calculator is permitted in both papers, each at forty per cent, with the exploration at twenty. Cheaper to support than Analysis and Approaches at the same level, because much of the work is method that a student can practise independently once it is taught properly.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Three papers plus the exploration, with heavier statistics and modelling content. Specialist availability is thinner than for Analysis and Approaches, so the practical cost includes a longer match time rather than only a higher rate.

The mathematics exploration

SL and HL

Twenty marks across five criteria and about a fifth of the subject grade. Supervision is cheap when booked while the work is being scoped and drafted and expensive when bought as crisis hours, which is the single largest avoidable cost in an IB maths budget.

IB Physics

SL and HL

Frequently bought alongside maths, and often unnecessarily. Where the physics marks are being lost to algebra rather than to concepts, a maths repair block is cheaper and more effective than physics sessions. That substitution is worth testing before buying both.

IB Chemistry

SL and HL

Stoichiometry and the quantitative questions are a maths problem in a chemistry context, so a numerate student can gain quickly. The scientific investigation needs supervision on the same long timescale as the maths exploration.

IB Economics

SL and HL

Higher Level carries more quantitative work, which suits a strong mathematician. The cost driver is the portfolio commentaries, which need structured feedback at the right moments rather than many hours of teaching.

IB Computer Science

SL and HL

Scarce in this market, particularly at Higher Level, so the real cost includes waiting. Families whose child takes it should ask about availability in Diploma Year 1 rather than in the spring of Year 2.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and International Mathematics 0607

Core and Extended

Relevant here as the run-up. A student entering the Diploma from 0607 Extended has the investigative habit the exploration rewards; one entering from 0580 usually needs it built, which is a short block in Year 11 rather than a term in Year 12.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The pattern you buy drives the total more than the rate does. These three cover almost every Al Falah maths budget, all one-to-one over live video.

Route decision block, two to four sessions

Bought in Year 11 or the first weeks of Diploma Year 1 to settle one question: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher. It ends with a written recommendation against the student's evidenced strengths and the published requirements of the universities they are aiming at. Cheapest useful purchase in the whole programme.

  • Diagnostic questions from both routes, sat under time
  • Algebraic fluency tested separately from problem solving
  • Written recommendation with the reasoning stated
  • No obligation to buy anything further

Fortnightly across two Diploma years

Roughly forty hours spread over twenty-four months, with frequency rising before internal deadlines and the exploration supervised while it is being written. This is the lower-total option for most families and the one most often skipped, because the pressure that triggers a purchase has not arrived yet in Year 1.

  • Exploration criteria taught by letter in Diploma Year 1
  • Paper technique added from the middle of Year 2
  • Total hours planned at the start so the spend is predictable
  • Frequency reduced during the school's own assessment weeks

Final-term paper intensive

Twenty to twenty-four hours in the closing stretch, twice weekly: one session on the components still losing marks, one on timed papers with the mark scheme read afterwards. Genuinely effective on paper technique and unable to touch the exploration, which by then is written. Offered only after a diagnosis establishes what it is for.

  • Papers sat to full duration, never shortened
  • Non-calculator discipline drilled separately for Analysis and Approaches
  • Paper 3 practice built over weeks for Higher Level students
  • A running list of the three components still costing most marks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Falah

01

What two Diploma years of maths support actually cost

The useful question is not what an hour costs but what the course costs, so here it is at the published mid band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, with the patterns Al Falah families actually buy. The figures are market rates from provider pages, not IB Gram prices; our trial is free and our quote follows a diagnosis.

Two things stand out when the arithmetic is laid out. The first is that fortnightly support across both Diploma years frequently costs less than a single twice-weekly final term, and buys supervision of the exploration that the final term cannot. The second is that the route decision block, at two to four hours, is by far the highest return per dirham in the list, because a student in the wrong route pays for two years of remedial support and still lands below where the other route would have left them.

The third observation is less comfortable. A weekly plan across two years in one maths subject is a substantial commitment at any band, and for many households it is not the right purchase. A fortnightly plan with two concentrated blocks, one around the exploration and one before the papers, achieves most of the effect at roughly half the hours. Families are rarely offered that option because it is worth less to the seller, which is reason enough to put it in a table. Read the totals as a range rather than a quotation: a student who needs only technique repair will sit at the lower end of each row, and one carrying real content gaps from Year 11 will sit above it.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the decision that moves the total

These are two different mathematics courses, not a harder and an easier version of one. Analysis and Approaches is built around algebraic technique, proof and calculus, and one of its papers is sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation is built around modelling, statistics and the interpretation of real data, with a calculator permitted throughout at Standard Level. A student with strong algebraic fluency and weak interpretive writing is a different proposition from a student with the reverse profile, and placing either in the wrong course is expensive in both money and grades.

The decision should be made against what the student's intended universities publish, and nothing else. Engineering and mathematics programmes commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level; many business, economics and social-science programmes accept either route. The only reliable method is to read the published entry requirement for the specific programme, in the year the student will apply, rather than inheriting a reputation. Where a family is unsure, the safer route is the one the student can actually perform in, because a 4 in the prestigious course is worth less than a 6 in the appropriate one.

Where this becomes a cost question is in the support each route needs. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the most expensive maths course to support in this market, because Paper 3 rewards extended problem solving built over months rather than drilled from a topic list. Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is the cheapest to support well, because much of the work is method that transfers to independent practice once taught. Two to four hours spent settling this decision in Year 11 routinely saves twenty or more later.

03

The twenty marks you cannot buy back in the final term

The exploration is worth about a fifth of the maths grade and is marked out of 20 across five criteria. Presentation carries 4 marks for coherent organisation. Mathematical communication carries 4 for correct notation, defined variables and labelled graphs. Personal engagement carries 3 for genuine independent thinking. Reflection carries 3 for discussing what the results mean and what the limitations are. Use of mathematics carries 6, the largest single allocation, for mathematics that is relevant, correct and at a level appropriate to the course.

This is where IB maths budgets go wrong. A family that starts tutoring in Diploma Year 2 after poor mocks is buying paper technique, which is useful, while a fifth of the grade has already been decided by a document written without supervision. Six to eight hours spent while the exploration is being scoped and drafted is cheap and changes that fifth. The same six to eight hours bought in the fortnight before submission are expensive, stressful and mostly cosmetic, because the mathematics in the piece is already chosen and the reflection has already been skipped.

The boundary on that help is fixed and worth stating in a page about money, because the market sells across it. A tutor teaches what each criterion rewards, works a comparable example on a different topic, and gives feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor does not choose the topic, supply text, or edit a draft until the thinking has stopped being the student's. One provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price; the consequences of that purchase fall on the candidate as a malpractice matter, not on the seller. Nobody should be paying for that, at any band.

D: Reflection3As results appearAdded as an afterthought and marked as one
E: Use of mathematics6At topic selectionUnrecoverable if the mathematics is too thin
04

Where IB maths money is wasted, specifically

  • Content teaching bought when the loss is pacing, arithmetic and unwritten method
  • Two years of remedial support instead of two hours on the route decision
  • Group classes bought for a Higher Level Paper 3 problem
  • Hours bought when the student has simply never sat a full paper to time
  • Starting in Diploma Year 2, once the exploration is already written

The first waste is buying content teaching when the problem is paper technique. A student who understands the syllabus and scores 4 is usually losing marks to pacing, non-calculator arithmetic and unwritten method, not to gaps in knowledge. Twelve hours of re-teaching produces a student who understands the content slightly better and scores the same. Twelve hours of timed papers with the mark scheme read afterwards produces a different result, and a diagnostic session tells you which situation you are in.

The second is paying for two years of remedial support in the wrong route rather than two hours on the route decision. The third is buying group classes for a Paper 3 problem: extended problem solving at Higher Level cannot be taught at group pace, because the whole point is the individual student's approach to an unfamiliar question. The fourth is buying hours when what the student needs is papers; some students have never sat a full past paper under time, and that costs nothing but a weekend.

The fifth is the most expensive and the least visible: starting in Diploma Year 2. By then the exploration is written, so a fifth of the grade is settled, and the available work is narrower than the price suggests. None of these wastes is a sign of a careless parent. They happen because the market sells hours, and hours are easier to sell than diagnoses. The questions in the table below cost nothing to ask and remove most of the risk before any money moves.

05

What you can verify before you pay anyone

Almost everything that matters in this purchase is checkable in advance, and none of it requires you to know the mathematics. Ask what each component of your child's course is worth; a tutor who has planned the course answers immediately. Ask for the exploration criteria by letter and mark allocation. Ask which route and level they have taught to examination, and when. Ask what they will not do with coursework, and listen for a boundary rather than for reassurance.

Then the administrative checks. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time and no fee. Ask to see it, and treat a quoted permit fee as a signal about the provider. Ask who bears the cost of changing a tutor if the match is wrong. Ask how progress will be reported and in what units: an answer about confidence is not a measurement.

Finally, be sceptical about published numbers. Several providers in this market show satisfaction percentages, student counts and star ratings with no sample size, date or method attached, and in the pages researched for this project one showed two contradictory review totals on a single page. We publish none of those figures, for the same reason we would not accept them from anyone else. What we do publish is a free diagnostic trial with no card required, a written plan with the hours counted, and a six-session review measured on timed questions.

06

Why the in-home premium from Al Falah is a travel charge

  • In-home quotes rise with distance from the island, which is travel, not quality
  • The local in-home pool is small once a route and level are specified
  • Higher Level Paper 3 support is where a generalist substitution costs most
  • Screen supervision and visible working are real trade-offs: test them in the trial

In-home one-to-one in Abu Dhabi is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. The clearest evidence that the gap is travel rather than teaching is geographic: quotes sit lower in Khalifa City, where journeys are short and specialists are concentrated, and higher in the outer communities where the drive is long. Al Falah is one of those outer communities.

There is a second cost that never appears on an invoice. Choosing in-home from here means choosing among tutors willing to drive out towards the airport road at the evening peak, which is a much smaller group than the set of people who teach Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level well. For a Standard Level student the two groups may overlap enough to be irrelevant. For a Higher Level student with a Paper 3 problem, the local set is often empty, and the usual outcome is a competent generalist, which is the one substitution in this market that costs marks rather than money.

The honest counter-case deserves stating. A younger or distractible student is easier to supervise in the room. A tutor can see written working on paper without any equipment. Online needs a tablet and stylus or a phone propped over paper, and that is worth testing in a free trial rather than assuming. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service available only in India, so if a physical presence is genuinely what your child needs, buy it locally with the premium understood. This page would rather say that than take a booking it is the wrong answer to.

07

What we will not promise, whatever the budget

  • No grade or points promise; the Diploma is externally assessed
  • No statistics published, because none could be evidenced
  • No regulator or board accreditation, and no UAE premises
  • No coursework produced, and no board documents redistributed

No grade and no points total. The Diploma is externally assessed, the maximum is 45 points with 24 required for the award, and the result belongs to the student on the day. Any provider promising a 7 is describing their marketing rather than their teaching, and in a market where several pages publish unverifiable success statistics it is worth saying plainly that we publish none: no satisfaction percentage, no score-improvement figure, no self-asserted rating, because we could not show you the sample size, the date and the method behind any of them.

No accreditation either. IB Gram holds no licence, approval, certification or partnership from the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International or Pearson. It has no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Those claims are the most dangerous ones available to a page like this, which is exactly why they are ruled out here rather than left ambiguous.

And nothing that crosses the coursework boundary at any price. A tutor teaches, marks and gives feedback on your child's own work. A tutor does not produce it, does not supply submittable text, and does not edit a draft until the thinking is no longer the student's. We also do not publish or supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; we cite them and link to the official source, because reproducing them is a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. What is on offer is a free diagnostic trial, an honest total, and a plan whose hours are counted before you commit to any of them.

Where we tutor

Al Falah and where the cost of distance shows up

Distance is priced in this emirate, and the in-home quotes prove it. These are the communities around Al Falah and what the geography does to the figure.

Al Falah

Villa community towards the airport road, well away from the island. In-home quotes here sit in the upper part of the published AED 180 to 500 band because the evening-peak journey is long in both directions.

Al Shamkha

The nearest large neighbour and the cheapest in-home option available to an Al Falah family, since a tutor already out this way has a shorter run. Online pricing is unaffected by any of it.

Khalifa City

The emirate's deepest pool of resident subject specialists and the lowest in-home quotes on the mainland, which is the clearest evidence available that the premium elsewhere is a travel charge rather than a quality signal.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

A dense international-school belt where many Al Falah Diploma students are enrolled. Tutors based here will travel out, and the quote reflects the distance rather than the teaching.

Yas Island

Newer school provision serving the eastern communities. Journey times from Al Falah are moderate off-peak and poor inside it, so evening in-home arrangements are the first to slip.

Masdar City and the airport corridor

Between Al Falah and the island, and the shortest realistic run for a travelling tutor. Still priced above an online session, because the journey exists at all.

The island and Saadiyat

Home to several well-known Diploma schools and the longest commute from Al Falah. An in-home arrangement from here is the most expensive version of the same hour of teaching.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Falah

Diploma schools Al Falah students attend

Most Al Falah Diploma students travel to this belt, and the school decides which maths routes and levels are actually timetabled. That is a cost question as well as an academic one, because a student pushed into the only level on offer may need continuous support for two years.

  • Raha International School

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the route, the level and the year

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher, Diploma Year 1 or Year 2. Those three facts determine the realistic plan and the realistic total, and they let us tell you in the first reply whether what you want costs more than you are expecting.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson used as a diagnostic

A working session with no card required. The tutor pitches questions at the route and level, watches the method rather than the answers, and separates algebraic fluency from problem solving, which is the distinction that decides whether a route correction is worth discussing.

  3. 03

A written plan with the hours counted

You receive the component priorities, the exploration timeline and the total hours the plan needs, placed across the months rather than averaged into a weekly habit. Counting hours at the start is what stops a household discovering in the spring that it has spent twice what it intended.

  4. 04

Sessions placed where they are worth most

Fortnightly through Diploma Year 1 with the exploration supervised while it is being drafted, concentrated blocks before internal deadlines, and twice weekly only in the final stretch after a diagnosis. Sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan on request.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions, with a route check

The tutor reports what has moved on timed questions and whether the route and level still look right. If the match is wrong we change the tutor. In a two-year programme a polite mismatch can run for terms, which is the most expensive failure available here.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We price the course, not the hour

An hourly rate cannot describe a twenty-four-month commitment with a fifth of the grade written at home. The cost model here sets each realistic plan against its total hours so you can compare commitments rather than two numbers describing different things.

The route decision is treated as the biggest saving available

Two to four hours spent settling Analysis and Approaches against Applications and Interpretation routinely saves twenty or more hours of remedial support later. It is the cheapest purchase in the programme and the one almost nobody is offered.

Exploration supervision is placed early

Twenty marks across five criteria, written at home over months. Six to eight hours while the work is being scoped changes that fifth of the grade; the same hours in the final fortnight are stressful and mostly cosmetic.

Every AED figure here names its source

The bands on this page cite the provider that published each one. None of the competitor pages measured for this project cites a source for a single AED figure, and three publish no price at all, which makes value impossible to judge before spending.

You are handed the checks to run on us

Component weightings, criteria by letter, route and level taught to examination, the coursework boundary, the MoHRE permit and the units progress is reported in. All six are answerable in one free trial session, ours included.

Nothing is claimed that cannot be checked

No grade promises, no published statistics, no accreditation and no UAE premises. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Falah: your questions answered

What does an IB maths tutor cost for a family in Al Falah?+

Published Abu Dhabi bands run wide: budget online tutoring from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified online subject tutor at AED 150 to 300 with Unitors listing IB from AED 200, specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-led provision reaching AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Those are provider figures, not IB Gram prices. The more useful number is the course total, which is why this page costs each plan in hours.

How much should we budget for two Diploma years of maths support?+

At the published mid band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, fortnightly support across both years is roughly forty to forty-four hours, or about AED 6,000 to 13,200 in total. A lighter structure of fortnightly sessions plus two concentrated blocks runs nearer twenty-eight to thirty-two hours. Weekly across two years is eighty or more hours and is only justified for a student well behind. The point of the comparison is that the spread-out plan often totals less than a panicked final term and also covers the exploration.

Is it cheaper to start IB maths support in Diploma Year 1 or Year 2?+

Year 1, usually by a wide margin, and for a structural reason rather than a commercial one. By Year 2 the exploration is written or nearly written, so about a fifth of the grade is already settled and the available work narrows to paper technique. The same budget spent twelve months earlier buys both the papers and the coursework. Families most often start after poor Year 2 mocks, which is a reasonable trigger and an expensive moment, since the cheapest fifth of the grade has gone.

Which maths route costs more to support, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the most expensive to support in this market, because Paper 3 rewards extended problem solving that has to be built over months rather than drilled from a topic list, and because one paper is sat without a calculator, which is a separate strand of work. Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is the cheapest to support well, since much of it is method that transfers to independent practice once taught properly. Availability also differs, and a longer match time is part of the real cost.

How do we decide between the two IB maths routes without wasting two years?+

Buy two to four diagnostic hours in Year 11 or the opening weeks of Diploma Year 1. The session tests algebraic fluency separately from problem solving and interpretation, because a student strong in one and weak in the other belongs in a specific route. Then read the published entry requirement for the exact university programmes your child is aiming at, in the year they will apply. Engineering and mathematics commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, while many business and social-science programmes accept either.

Why does the exploration matter so much to the budget?+

Because it is about a fifth of the subject grade and it is produced at home across months, so it is the part of the grade a final-term intensive cannot touch. It is marked out of 20 across five criteria: Presentation 4, Mathematical communication 4, Personal engagement 3, Reflection 3 and Use of mathematics 6. Six to eight hours of supervision while the topic is being chosen and the mathematics written is cheap and changes that fifth. The same hours a fortnight before submission are largely cosmetic.

Can I pay a tutor to write or finish my child's maths exploration?+

No, and you should not want to. A tutor teaches what each criterion rewards, works a comparable example on a different topic, and gives feedback on your child's own draft. Choosing the topic for them, supplying text or editing a draft until the thinking is no longer theirs crosses into malpractice, and the consequences fall on the candidate rather than on whoever was paid. One provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price, which is a reason to avoid them rather than an option.

My child understands the content but scores 4. Is more teaching the answer?+

Usually not. That profile points to pacing, non-calculator arithmetic and unwritten method rather than to gaps in knowledge, and twelve hours of re-teaching tends to produce a student who understands slightly more and scores the same. Twelve hours of timed papers with the mark scheme read afterwards is the intervention that fits. A single diagnostic session tells you which situation you are in, and it is the difference between spending usefully and spending politely.

Are group IB maths classes good value for a Higher Level student?+

Not for a Paper 3 problem. Extended problem solving at Higher Level is about an individual student's approach to an unfamiliar question, and group pace cannot address that because the point is what this student does when they do not recognise the problem. Group teaching can work for content coverage at Standard Level, where the material is common and the gaps are shared. The sequence that avoids wasting money is a diagnosis first, then the format, rather than the format first.

Why is an in-home maths tutor more expensive in Al Falah than in Khalifa City?+

Because the price includes the journey. In-home one-to-one is quoted across Abu Dhabi at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, and the quotes sit lower in Khalifa City, where specialists are concentrated and drives are short, and higher in outer communities like Al Falah where the evening-peak run is long. That geographic pattern is the clearest evidence available that the premium is travel rather than expertise. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are available only in India.

Do monthly tutoring packages in this market work out cheaper?+

Sometimes, and the terms matter more than the headline. The packages seen in the market are around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Before committing, ask whether unused sessions roll over, how long the package stays valid, whether the hours can move between subjects, and what happens if the tutor changes. A package that cannot flex around internal deadlines and school assessment weeks is cheaper per hour and more expensive per useful hour.

Does paying a premium rate improve my child's IB maths grade?+

It improves the match rather than the outcome, and nobody can honestly promise the outcome. What the higher bands reliably buy is someone who has taught and marked the exact route and level, who can say why a correct answer scored two out of four, and who can name the three components still costing marks. That raises the quality of the work and leaves the grade with the student on the day. We publish no score-improvement figures, because we could not show you the sample size, date and method behind one.

What should I ask an IB maths tutor before paying anything?+

Six things, none about price. What is each component of this course worth? Name the exploration criteria by letter with their mark allocations. Which route and level have you taught to examination, and when? What will you not do with the exploration? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free of charge for two years? And how is progress reported, in what units? A tutor who answers all six precisely is a different proposition from one who answers on rate alone.

If our budget only covers a few hours, where should they go?+

It depends on the year. In Year 11 or early Diploma Year 1, spend them on the route decision, which is the highest-return purchase in the programme. In Diploma Year 1, spend them on exploration supervision while the topic is being chosen and the mathematics written. In Diploma Year 2, spend them on a diagnostic plus timed papers with mark schemes read afterwards. What not to do with a small budget is buy general content teaching, because that is the pattern most likely to produce no measurable change.

Count the hours before you compare the rates

If you are weighing IB maths support for an Al Falah household, the first useful step costs nothing. Tell us the route, the level and the Diploma year, then take a free trial lesson with no card required. The tutor will pitch questions at that route and level, separate algebraic fluency from problem solving, and tell you which components are costing marks and whether the route still looks right. You will then have an honest total in hours as well as a rate, including the cheaper structures most providers do not offer. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If the written diagnosis is all you want, take it and stop there.
