IGCSE Maths Tutor in Al Falah

An IGCSE maths tutor in Al Falah is usually hired after a disappointing mock, at which point the question is not what an hour costs but which hour is worth buying. Some interventions in this subject move a grade for six sessions. Others cost a term and change nothing, because they treat the wrong problem. This page sorts them by what they fix and what they cost in AED, and lists the free checks to run first. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Falah

Which hour is worth buying?

Nearly every IGCSE maths enquiry from Al Falah arrives in the same week of the year: the week the mock results come home. The instinct is to buy hours, as many as the budget allows, as soon as possible. It is the wrong first move, and it is expensive. In this subject the gap between a well-aimed six sessions and a badly aimed twenty is not a matter of degree; one moves a grade and the other produces a calmer student with the same result.

The reason is that IGCSE maths marks are lost in four distinct ways, and only one of them responds to re-teaching. A student can lose marks to genuine unknown content, which does need teaching. Or to method that was never written down, so a correct approach earned nothing. Or to arithmetic, mostly on the Cambridge non-calculator paper. Or to reading, where a question asked for a reason and received a calculation, or asked for three significant figures and received a decimal that was right two lines earlier. Those four need completely different interventions, at completely different costs, and a single past paper sorted against the mark scheme tells you which you are dealing with.

Here is the market, for reference, in AED with sources named. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified online subject tutor runs roughly AED 150 to 300, Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350. Premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. Three of the six competitor pages measured for this project publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars.

What those bands do not tell a parent is value, which is why the first table on this page prices interventions rather than hours. A six-session method-repair block at the middle band costs less than a quarter of a term of weekly sessions and is more likely to move a grade when the diagnosis says method. The same six sessions are worth little if the student genuinely has not learned the syllabus. Neither statement is a sales position; they are just the two situations, and they need to be told apart before any money moves.

One note on delivery. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are offered only in India. For Al Falah families, which sits well out towards the airport road, lessons are one-to-one over live video, and the in-home premium in a community this far from the island is largely the journey. We publish no rate card here. The trial lesson is free with no card required, and the quote follows the diagnosis so it is attached to a plan.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The same budget buys very different value at different points in the course. Here is what each stage should be spending on, and roughly how much it takes.

Year 10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

The first IGCSE year

The cheapest year to intervene in and the least used. Content is being met for the first time, so a gap costs four sessions rather than fourteen, and the habit of writing visible method can be built instead of repaired. This is also the only year in which the tier decision can still be changed, which makes a small spend here worth more than a large one later.

For an Al Falah household this is also the easiest year to protect an evening in, because homework volume is lower and the commute has not yet collided with revision demand. Four to six sessions in Year 10 routinely replace a full term of Year 11 fees, and a family that uses them to test the tier is buying information rather than teaching.

Year 11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

The examination year

When nearly all spending happens, and when it is most likely to be misdirected. The right sequence is a diagnostic first, then whichever of the four error categories is largest, then timed papers with mark schemes read afterwards. The wrong sequence is a block of hours bought on the strength of a grade rather than a diagnosis.

The weeks immediately after the winter break are the most productive revision weeks in a UAE school year, and families who begin in February have already spent them. In Al Falah, where the evening offers one usable block after a long commute, that lost time cannot be recovered by adding a second weekly session later.

ResitAges 16+

The November series as a second attempt

A real option that is rarely costed properly. A resit is a narrow, well-defined target: one or two papers, known weaknesses, a short and intense plan. Support for it is usually cheaper than a full year of weekly sessions, because the diagnosis already exists in the form of a result.

Cambridge International runs June and November, and UAE candidates sit those two series; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November. Entries for a resit go through a centre, so the first call is to the school's exams officer rather than to a tutor.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths is where the request starts, and the cost of the subjects usually added alongside it depends on how much overlap there is. These are the common combinations and what each one really needs.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 (Extended)

Extended, A* to E

Two written papers of equal weight, one without a calculator. Most of the purchasable value sits in non-calculator fluency, visible method and the long questions at the back of each paper, which are technique problems rather than content problems.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 (Core)

Core, C to G

A secure C rather than a reach for more, since the route is capped. Spending is best aimed at number, ratio, percentages, mensuration and data handling, plus a question order that banks reliable marks before fatigue.

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607

Core and Extended

Graphics-calculator technique and the investigation component. Cost is driven by the written investigation rather than by content, and a student treating it as 0580 with extra buttons will lose most where the marks are easiest to earn.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two calculator papers graded 9 to 1. The cheapest version of this is to confirm the tier early, because preparing a Foundation candidate for a grade 7 is paying for something the entry cannot award.

Pearson Edexcel Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

Single tier

Taken alongside 4MA1 by stronger candidates. Specialist availability is thinner, so the real cost includes a longer match time as well as a higher rate. Work is mostly technique against unfamiliar question structures.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

The most economical subject to add to maths, because equation rearrangement and graph work transfer directly. Where physics marks are being lost to algebra, a maths block is cheaper than physics sessions and does more.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Mole arithmetic and titration calculations are maths in a chemistry context, so a numerate student gains quickly. Organic naming and electrolysis products are the reliable marks worth securing early.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Data and statistics questions plus the structure of long extended responses. The cheapest improvement is writing timed answers rather than reading notes, which costs nothing and is the thing most students have never done.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450

Core and Extended

Calculation marks are easy for a numerate student and evaluation marks are where everyone loses. Short, focused blocks on diagram accuracy and the explain-versus-evaluate distinction give better value than continuous support.

Arabic and UAE Social Studies alongside the IGCSE course

School-dependent

Mandatory in UAE private schools beside the licensed curriculum, and a cost in hours rather than dirhams. Any realistic Year 11 revision budget has to account for the timetable space they occupy.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases, each matched to a different diagnosis. All are one-to-one over live video, and the first one exists so the other two are bought for the right reason.

Diagnostic session, free

One session in which the student attempts questions pitched at their tier while the tutor watches the method rather than the answers. It ends with a statement of which of the four error categories is largest and whether the entry tier can award the grade the family is aiming at. No card is required and nothing follows automatically.

  • Questions at the real tier, not a generic set
  • Method watched as it forms, not marked afterwards
  • Error categories named, with the largest identified
  • Tier suitability stated plainly

Targeted repair block, six to ten sessions

Aimed at whichever category the diagnosis named. A method-repair block looks nothing like a content block: it is short, repetitive and focused on written working, rounding discipline and question order. A content block is slower and covers specific untaught topics. Buying the wrong one is the most common waste in this market.

  • Scope fixed by the diagnosis, in writing
  • One short task between sessions, marked at the next
  • Progress re-measured on the same question types
  • Block ends; nothing renews automatically

Timed-paper phase before the series

The final six to eight weeks. Full papers sat to real duration with the mark scheme read aloud afterwards, so the student learns what each mark is awarded for. This is the phase that converts knowledge into marks, and it is wasted on a student who has not yet learned the content, which is why it comes last.

  • Papers sat to the full published duration
  • Mark-scheme walkthrough after every attempt
  • Minutes-per-mark pacing built deliberately
  • A running list of the three topics still costing most marks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Falah

01

Interventions ranked by what they fix and what they cost

This is the table most families would like before they spend and almost never get. It lists the interventions available in IGCSE maths, what each one actually treats, how many hours it takes and what that costs at the published mid band of AED 150 to 300 an hour. The figures are market rates from provider pages rather than IB Gram prices; our trial is free and our quote follows a diagnosis.

Read it alongside the honest caveat. Nothing in the right-hand column is a promise. An intervention that is well matched to the diagnosis has a good chance of moving a grade; the same intervention aimed at the wrong problem has almost none, which is the entire argument of this page. Nobody can promise a grade in an externally assessed qualification, and a provider who does is describing their marketing.

The pattern that emerges is consistent across the Abu Dhabi families we see. The cheapest items sit at the top, and they are the ones least often purchased, because they look too small to be serious. A tier check is an email. A full paper sat cold is a weekend. A mark-scheme walkthrough is one session. Those three cost almost nothing and they decide whether the expensive items are worth buying at all. The most expensive item, a term of weekly general support bought without a diagnosis, sits at the bottom for a reason. It is not that the teaching inside those hours is poor; it is that nobody has told the teaching where to aim.

Four checks that cost nothing and should happen first

  • Syllabus code and tier, in writing, from the exams officer
  • One full past paper sat cold at home, to the real duration
  • Mark that paper against the published scheme and sort the losses into four categories
  • Confirm the exam centre and its Cambridge administrative zone

The first check is the entry. Ask the school's exams officer, in writing, for the syllabus code and the tier for mathematics. Parents frequently do not have this, and it is not inattention: Abu Dhabi schools often write only IGCSE maths in reports. The code decides whether a calculator is permitted in every paper and whether an investigation component exists. The tier decides the maximum grade available, and Cambridge 0580 Core cannot award above a C while Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation caps at grade 5.

The second is a full past paper, sat at home, to the real duration, with a phone in another room. Most students who arrive after a bad mock have never done this voluntarily, and the attempt itself is diagnostic. The third is marking it against the mark scheme with the student present, sorting every lost mark into method, arithmetic, reading or unknown content. That half hour is the single most informative thing available to a parent in this subject, and it requires no subject knowledge, only the published scheme.

The fourth is the exam centre. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that using the correct version of the timetable for your zone is essential, and is explicit that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after reading the wrong version. The zone follows the centre rather than the home address, so ask the exams officer and get it in writing. Done together, these four checks cost nothing, take under two hours of a weekend, and frequently change what a family should buy. Occasionally they show that nothing needs to be bought.

03

The tier trap, priced

This is the most expensive misunderstanding in IGCSE mathematics, and it is entirely administrative. The route or tier a student is entered for sets a ceiling on the grade that can be awarded, independently of performance. Cambridge grades 0580 Core from C to G and Extended from A* to E. Pearson Edexcel caps 4MA1 Foundation at grade 5 and runs Higher from 9 to 4. A candidate on the lower option who answers every question correctly still cannot be awarded above the cap.

The cost of not knowing this is a whole term of fees spent preparing for a grade that was never available. We see it most often in the spring of Year 11, when a family has been buying weekly sessions since January in pursuit of a grade 7 while the entry is Foundation. Nobody involved acted carelessly. The school recorded the tier, the report said IGCSE maths, and the tutor taught what was asked. The question that would have surfaced it takes one line in an email.

The window matters as much as the fact. Tier changes are possible up to the point final entries are submitted, which sits months before the papers, and after that the ceiling is fixed. So the check belongs in Year 10 or the autumn of Year 11, not in the spring. If the tier turns out to be wrong for the student's ambitions, the conversation with the school is about evidence: a full paper sat at the higher tier under time is a stronger argument than a parental opinion, and it costs a weekend.

04

The four error categories, and which are cheap to fix

Sorting a marked paper into four categories is the whole method, and the categories differ enormously in what they cost to repair. Reading errors are the cheapest. A question asks for a reason and receives a calculation; asks for three significant figures and receives a decimal that was correct two lines earlier; asks for the answer in a particular form and receives it in another. One or two mark-scheme walkthroughs usually change this behaviour permanently, because the student has simply never seen what the examiner was waiting for.

Method errors are next, and they are the largest category in most Abu Dhabi diagnostics we run. The student can do the mathematics and writes one line, so when the final step fails, nothing is credited. Examiners award method marks only for method they can see. Six to eight sessions of insisting on written steps, with the marks pointed out each time, converts near-misses into partial credit across an entire paper. This is a habit intervention, which is why it works faster than content teaching and why it is so often skipped in favour of re-teaching topics the student already knows.

Arithmetic is third, and specific to the Cambridge non-calculator paper. Short daily drilling beats long weekly sessions here, and the gain shows on the calculator paper too because less time is lost on the early questions. Content is last and most expensive: genuinely untaught topics, usually bearings, similar-shape scale factors, compound percentage change, histograms with unequal class widths and vectors, because they arrive late in most schemes of work. Eight to fourteen hours is a realistic range, and this is the only category where buying a lot of hours is the correct response.

Group, centre, self-study or one-to-one: cost per useful hour

Cost per hour and cost per useful hour are different numbers. A tuition centre group class is cheap per student and cannot follow one student's gaps, which is precisely what the purchase is for when the diagnosis names three specific topics. Self-study is free and works well for arithmetic drilling and for sitting timed papers, and poorly for anything requiring feedback on method, since the student cannot see what they cannot see.

Online one-to-one sits in the middle of the published bands at AED 150 to 300 an hour, and every one of those minutes is spent on this student. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500 including travel, and from Al Falah the top of that range is realistic because the evening-peak journey is long. The useful comparison is not which is cheapest but which delivers the thing the diagnosis asked for, at the lowest total.

The practical answer for most families is a combination, which no provider has an incentive to recommend. Free self-study for the arithmetic drilling and the timed papers. One-to-one for the diagnosis, the method repair and the mark-scheme walkthroughs, which is where feedback is irreplaceable. A group class only if the student is broadly behind across the syllabus rather than specifically behind in a few places. Sequenced that way, a household spends less and buys more, which is the whole of the advice on this page. The one requirement is that somebody at home checks the self-study half actually happens, because an unsupervised drilling plan quietly becomes no drilling plan and then the paid hours go back to re-teaching.

What the monthly packages hide, and what the resit route costs

  • Ask whether unused sessions roll over and how long the package stays valid
  • Ask whether hours can move between subjects or between siblings
  • Ask what happens to the package if the tutor changes
  • Resit entries and any entry fees go through the centre, not through a tutor

Monthly packages in this market sit around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are real figures and the headline is the least important part of them. What matters is in the terms: whether unused sessions roll over, how long the package remains valid, whether hours can move between subjects or siblings, and what happens if the tutor changes mid-package.

A package that cannot flex around the school's own assessment weeks, a family trip or Ramadan is cheaper per hour and more expensive per useful hour, because the sessions that cannot be moved are the sessions that are lost. Ask those four questions before committing to any monthly arrangement, including a cheap one. Ask also whether the quoted price includes any applicable tax; we do not state the VAT treatment of tuition in the UAE on this page because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation, and an unsourced tax statement is not something a page should hand a parent.

The resit route deserves a mention because it is frequently cheaper than families assume and rarely explained. Cambridge runs June and November and UAE candidates sit those two series; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November. A resit is a narrow target with a diagnosis already attached, namely the result itself, so a short intense plan often costs less than a year of weekly support. Entries are made through a centre, so the first conversation is with the school's exams officer about entry deadlines and any entry fees they charge, which vary by centre and are not something this page will invent a figure for.

07

What we measure, and what we will not claim

  • Progress measured on timed questions and classified errors
  • Tutor changed at our cost if the match is wrong
  • No statistics published, because none could be evidenced
  • No accreditation claimed, no UAE premises, and a published coursework boundary

A page this concerned with value owes a parent a statement of how progress is judged. The measure is timed questions. A cold paper at the start, every lost mark classified into the four categories, then the same question types repeated after the repair work. At six sessions you receive a statement naming what has moved and the three topics still costing the most marks. That is checkable, and it is deliberately not a report that the student seems more confident, because confidence is not a measurement and is the easiest thing in the world to produce.

If the match is wrong, the tutor changes at our cost. The most common quiet failure in this market is a family persisting politely with someone competent who is not right for their child, and a scheduled review removes the social awkwardness of saying so. Nothing renews automatically, and a household that wants only the free diagnosis can take it and spend nothing further.

What we will not publish is any statistic we cannot evidence: no satisfaction percentage, no score-improvement figure, no student count, no self-asserted rating. In the pages researched for this project, one provider showed two contradictory review totals on a single page and another showed a perfect score from twenty reviews next to a far larger claim about students taught. We also claim no accreditation: IB Gram holds no licence, approval or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and has no premises in the UAE. On coursework the boundary is fixed: a tutor teaches, marks and gives feedback on your child's own work, including on a 0607 investigation, and never produces it or supplies submittable text.

Where we tutor

Al Falah and what the surrounding geography does to a quote

Where a family lives changes the in-home price and nothing about the paper. These are the communities around Al Falah and how the geography shows up in a figure.

Al Falah

Villa community towards the airport road and a long way from the island. In-home quotes here sit high in the published AED 180 to 500 band, because the evening-peak journey is long in both directions and is billed.

Al Shamkha

The nearest large neighbour and usually the cheapest in-home option for an Al Falah family, since a tutor already working out this way has a shorter run between appointments.

Khalifa City

The deepest resident specialist pool on the mainland and the lowest in-home quotes, which is the clearest evidence available that the premium further out is a travel charge rather than a quality difference.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

A dense international-school belt where many Al Falah children are enrolled. Tutors here will travel out, and the quote reflects the distance rather than any difference in the teaching.

Yas Island

Newer schools serving the eastern communities. Journeys are tolerable off-peak and poor during it, so evening in-home arrangements from here are the first to slip into cancellations.

Masdar City and the airport corridor

The shortest realistic run for a travelling tutor reaching Al Falah, and still priced above an online session because the journey exists at all.

Al Wathba and the outer mainland

Further out again, where in-home quotes reach the top of the band. Families here get the clearest value from online delivery, since nothing about the pricing changes with distance.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Falah

The Al Falah, Al Shamkha and airport-road corridor

The shortest school runs available locally. Ask at admission which maths syllabus the school enters candidates for and at which tiers, because both decisions affect what a family will later be able to buy with any budget.

  • Liwa International School
  • Reach British School
  • Emirates National School
  • GEMS Founders School, Masdar City

The Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas Island belt

Where many Al Falah secondary students are enrolled. Both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel entries appear across this belt, so the board cannot be inferred from a school's name and must be confirmed in writing before a revision plan is built.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • West Yas Academy
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

Schools are named only to describe the Al Falah catchment. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them, and none is a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Run the four free checks

Syllabus code and tier in writing, one full past paper sat cold, that paper marked against the published scheme with the losses sorted into four categories, and the exam centre plus its Cambridge zone confirmed. Two hours of a weekend, no cost, and it frequently changes what should be bought.

  2. 02

    Take the free diagnostic session

The tutor sets questions at the real tier and watches the method rather than the answers, then names the largest error category and whether the entry can award the grade you are aiming at. No card is required and nothing follows automatically if you would rather stop there.

  3. 03

Buy only the block the diagnosis names

A method-repair block, an arithmetic drilling pattern, a content block or a timed-paper phase. These look nothing alike and cost different amounts, and buying the wrong one is the most common waste in this market. The scope is written down before the first paid session.

  4. 04

Re-measure on the same question types

Progress is checked against the questions that were failing, not against a general impression. If the block has done its work you stop; if a second category has emerged, you are told which, and whether it is worth addressing before the series.

  5. 05

Sequence the final weeks as papers, not content

The last six to eight weeks are full papers sat to real duration with the mark scheme read afterwards. Frequency is reduced during the school's own assessment weeks, and sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan on request.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We price interventions, not hours

The table on this page ranks what can be bought by what it fixes and what it costs, cheapest first. The three cheapest items cost nothing at all and decide whether the expensive ones are worth buying, which is not an argument that sells hours.

The free checks come first and we say so

A tier check, a paper sat cold, a mark-scheme walkthrough and a centre confirmation. Four things a parent can do without us, in a weekend, that frequently change the purchase or remove the need for it.

The tier trap is surfaced early

Cambridge 0580 Core cannot award above a C and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation caps at grade 5. A term of fees spent chasing a grade the entry cannot award is the most expensive avoidable error in IGCSE mathematics.

Every AED figure names its source

Each band here cites the provider that published it. Three of the six competitor pages measured for this project publish no price at all and the other two quote in US dollars, which makes value impossible to judge before spending.

We recommend formats we do not sell

Free self-study for arithmetic drilling and timed papers, one-to-one only where feedback is irreplaceable, and a group class when the student is behind everywhere. That combination usually costs a household less than any single format.

Nothing is claimed that cannot be checked

No grade promises, no published statistics, no accreditation and no UAE premises. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Falah: your questions answered

How many IGCSE maths sessions does an Al Falah student actually need?+

It depends entirely on which of four error categories is costing the marks. Reading errors take one or two mark-scheme walkthroughs. Method errors, the largest category in most diagnostics, take six to eight sessions, because they are a habit rather than a knowledge gap. Non-calculator arithmetic takes four to six, spread as short drills. Genuinely untaught content takes eight to fourteen. Buying hours before the category is identified is the most common way money is wasted in this subject, and a single marked paper identifies it.

What is the cheapest thing that actually improves an IGCSE maths grade?+

Three things that cost nothing. Asking the school in writing for the syllabus code and the tier, because a capped entry silently limits the grade. Sitting one full past paper at home to the real duration, which most students who arrive after a bad mock have never done voluntarily. And marking that paper against the published mark scheme with the student present, sorting every lost mark into method, arithmetic, reading or unknown content. Together they take under two hours of a weekend and frequently change what should be bought.

Why would a term of weekly tutoring not move my child's maths grade?+

Because most of those hours go on re-teaching content the student largely knows, when the marks are being lost to pacing, unwritten method and misread questions. A student who understands the syllabus and scores a C is usually losing partial credit across the whole paper rather than failing whole topics. Twelve hours of re-teaching produces slightly better understanding and the same grade. Twelve hours of method repair and timed papers with mark schemes read afterwards addresses the actual loss, and a diagnostic session tells you which case you are in.

Could my child be entered for a tier that cannot award the grade we want?+

Yes, and it is the most expensive misunderstanding in this subject. Cambridge grades the 0580 Core route C to G and Pearson Edexcel caps the 4MA1 Foundation tier at grade 5. A candidate on the lower option who answers everything correctly still cannot be awarded above the cap. Tier changes are possible until final entries are submitted, which is months before the papers, so the check belongs in Year 10 or the autumn of Year 11. The email that surfaces it is one line long.

Is a tuition centre group class good value for IGCSE maths in Abu Dhabi?+

It is cheap per student and cannot follow one student's gaps, so the answer depends on the diagnosis. If the student is broadly behind across the syllabus, a group class can work and is good value. If the losses are three named topics or one bad habit such as not writing method, group pace will not touch them and the saving is illusory. The sequence that avoids the mistake is diagnosis first, format second, which is also the order no provider has an incentive to recommend.

Can self-study replace a maths tutor for a Year 11 student here?+

Partly, and the split is worth knowing. Self-study is free and genuinely effective for arithmetic drilling and for sitting full papers to time, which are two of the most valuable activities available. It is poor for feedback on method, because a student cannot see what they cannot see, and that is exactly where a marked paper and a walkthrough change behaviour. Most households get the best value from a combination: free self-study for the drilling and the papers, paid hours only where feedback is irreplaceable.

Why is an in-home maths tutor dearer in Al Falah than nearer the island?+

Because the journey is inside the price. In-home one-to-one across Abu Dhabi is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, and the quotes sit lower in Khalifa City, where specialists are concentrated and drives are short, and higher out towards the airport road. Al Falah is at the expensive end of that geography. Online one-to-one sits at roughly AED 150 to 300. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service available only in India.

What should I check before committing to a monthly tutoring package?+

Four things, none of which appear in the headline price. Whether unused sessions roll over. How long the package stays valid. Whether hours can move between subjects or between siblings. And what happens if the tutor changes mid-package. Market packages sit around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, and a package that cannot flex around school assessment weeks, travel or Ramadan is cheaper per hour and dearer per useful hour.

Does the November series make a cheaper second attempt possible?+

Often yes, and it is rarely costed properly. A resit is a narrow target with the diagnosis already supplied by the result, so a short intense plan frequently costs less than a year of weekly support. Cambridge runs June and November, and UAE candidates sit those two series; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November. Entries go through a centre, so the first call is to the school's exams officer about deadlines and any entry fee they charge.

How do I know whether the losses are reading errors rather than real gaps?+

Mark a full paper against the published scheme with your child sitting beside you and watch where the marks go. Reading errors have a signature: the working is correct and the answer is in the wrong form, to the wrong accuracy, or answers a different question than the one asked. Content gaps look different, with whole question types left blank or abandoned after one line. You need no subject knowledge to sort these, only the scheme, and reading errors are the cheapest category in the whole list to fix.

Is it worth starting IGCSE maths tutoring in February for June papers?+

It is worth starting, and you have missed the best weeks. The period immediately after the winter break is the most productive revision window of a UAE school year, and a February start concedes it. What remains still works if the plan narrows: method repair, non-calculator drilling and timed papers with mark schemes read afterwards, rather than an attempt to cover a syllabus. Trying to teach everything in the time left tends to produce a calmer student with an unchanged grade, which is the outcome families most regret paying for.

Do you quote a fixed price for IGCSE maths support?+

Not on this page, deliberately. A rate quoted before a diagnosis is a number attached to nothing, and the whole argument here is that the right purchase varies by a factor of ten depending on what is actually wrong. The trial lesson is free with no card required, the diagnosis names the largest error category, and the quote follows that with the hours counted. We also do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition, because that would require a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an assumption.

What if the tutor turns out to be the wrong fit for my child?+

We change them, at our cost, and the review at six sessions exists to make that easy to say. The most common quiet failure in this market is a family persisting politely with someone competent who is simply not right for their child, usually because raising it feels awkward. A scheduled review removes the awkwardness. Nothing renews automatically either, so a household can take the free diagnosis, use the written plan with the school, and spend nothing further.

Can a tutor help with the Cambridge 0607 investigation without crossing a line?+

Yes, within a fixed boundary. A tutor can teach what an investigative write-up has to contain, work a comparable example on a different problem, and give feedback on your child's own attempt against the published criteria. A tutor must not supply text for submission or edit a draft until the thinking has stopped being the student's. One provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that exposes the candidate to malpractice proceedings rather than the seller, which is why our boundary is published rather than negotiable.

Spend two free hours before you spend anything else

If your child is sitting IGCSE maths from an Al Falah school and the mock disappointed, do the free work first. Ask the school in writing for the syllabus code, the tier and the exam centre with its Cambridge zone. Have your child sit one full past paper at home to the real duration. Then mark it against the published scheme together and sort every lost mark into method, arithmetic, reading or unknown content. Bring that to a free trial lesson and the tutor will confirm or correct it and name the block worth buying. No card is required, nothing renews automatically, and if the diagnosis is all you need, take it and stop.
