IB Maths Tutor in Al Raha Beach

An IB maths tutor in Al Raha Beach usually costs less than parents expect, and the saving has nothing to do with discounts. Market rates for in-home tuition in Abu Dhabi carry a travel premium you pay whether or not it helps your child. IB Gram delivers Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation as one-to-one lessons over live video, booked on Gulf Standard Time. The first lesson is a free trial, and no card is needed to take it.

IB & IGCSE in Al Raha Beach

What you are actually paying for when you hire an IB maths tutor

Start with the arithmetic rather than the brochure. A family in Al Raha Beach booking one hour a week for a school year buys roughly 34 to 36 teaching hours. At the budget end of the Abu Dhabi market that is a commitment somewhere near AED 1,600 to AED 5,400 for the year. At specialist rates it is closer to AED 7,000 to AED 15,000. The number that matters is not the hourly figure on the quote. It is the total, and what share of that total is spent on teaching rather than on logistics.

The travel premium is the single largest avoidable cost in this market. Bestimate's Dubai and Abu Dhabi rate work puts in-home one-to-one tuition at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. Online qualified subject tutors sit at roughly AED 150 to 300. Unitors publishes AED 200 as its own IB starting rate online. The gap between those two columns is not a difference in teaching quality. It is a car, a parking space in a villa community, and forty minutes of someone's evening.

The second avoidable cost is a mismatch between the tutor and the course. Al Raha Beach sits in the middle of a corridor of Diploma schools, and Mathematics splits four ways at Diploma level: Analysis and Approaches at Higher and Standard Level, Applications and Interpretation at Higher and Standard Level. A tutor comfortable with AA Standard Level is not automatically useful on AI Higher Level, where the toolkit paper and the statistics content look nothing like AA's calculus spine. Families pay for ten hours before discovering this, which is ten hours of the year gone.

The third is buying hours when the child needs a diagnosis. A student losing marks on Paper 2 because the graphical display calculator is being used as a last resort rather than a first tool does not need another twenty hours of content revision. They need two hours on calculator strategy and then a different plan. IB maths tuition in Al Raha Beach is worth buying when it is pointed at a named problem, and close to worthless when it is bought as general reassurance before an exam season.

So this page is written as a budget. It publishes the market bands with their sources, shows what the travel premium buys and does not buy, sets out where the money is usually wasted, and puts the AA against AI decision in a table because that decision changes the bill more than any discount will. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to any school, authority or examination board named here. Lessons for families in Al Raha Beach are delivered as one-to-one online tuition; IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home tutoring is a service we run only in India.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Raha Beach families draw on the full IB continuum, and maths support looks different at every stage. The four programmes below set out where the maths load sits and what an Abu Dhabi student in that stage is usually asking for.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Maths in the PYP is embedded in units of inquiry rather than taught as a named timetabled subject, so a parent often cannot tell from a report card whether number fluency is secure. The transferable pieces are place value, fraction sense, the four operations with decimals, and reading a scale. A PYP student who leaves Year 6 shaky on fractions will meet the same gap again in MYP algebra three years later.

Al Raha Beach children overwhelmingly attend PYP schools in the Al Raha and Khalifa City corridor, which means a short school run and a realistic 4.30pm start. At this stage the cheapest intervention in the whole of a parent's spending is twenty minutes of arithmetic practice twice a week rather than a weekly hour of formal tuition.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Mathematics runs as Standard or Extended, and the eAssessment at the end of MYP 5 is marked against four criteria: Knowing and understanding, Investigating patterns, Communicating, and Applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Extended is the route that keeps Analysis and Approaches Higher Level open. The criterion that consistently costs marks is Investigating patterns, because students find the rule and then stop before justifying it.

The MYP to Diploma transition is where Al Raha Beach families usually first spend money on maths. A student arriving in DP1 from MYP Standard rather than Extended typically needs eight to twelve hours of algebraic fluency work before calculus is approachable, and that cost is far lower in the summer before DP1 than in the autumn term of it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Diploma maths is compulsory, and the four routes carry very different loads. Analysis and Approaches is calculus-led and proof-heavy; Applications and Interpretation is statistics-led and modelling-heavy. At Standard Level there are two papers; at Higher Level there are three, with Paper 3 worth 20% and built from two extended problem-solving questions. The Internal Assessment, the Exploration, is 20% at both levels.

This is where the money is either well spent or lost. Diploma families in Al Raha Beach commonly buy two years of weekly tuition when a targeted year would serve better: DP1 term two for the course foundations, then a Paper 3 and Exploration block in DP2. An online IB maths tutor in Abu Dhabi can be booked for a defined block rather than an open-ended retainer.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs DP courses with a career-related study and a Personal and Professional Skills core. Maths usually appears as a single DP course alongside the career strand, most often Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level, because the modelling and financial mathematics content maps onto business and engineering pathways more directly than calculus does.

CP cohorts in Abu Dhabi are small, which means in-area tutor supply for a CP maths course is thin and the travel premium on a home tutor is at its most pointless. One-to-one online lessons remove the supply problem entirely, because the pool is not limited to people who can reach Al Raha Beach by 5pm.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths is the reason most Al Raha Beach families reach this page, so the grid below leads with the four Diploma maths routes and the Exploration, then covers the subjects whose grades move when maths improves.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Three papers, with Paper 3 at 20% built from two long problem-solving questions. The content spine is calculus, proof, complex numbers and vectors. Marks go on reasoning that is correct but unwritten, and on integration by substitution attempted without checking the limits.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Two papers, no Paper 3. Differentiation and integration of a narrower function set, plus binomial expansion, sequences and trigonometric identities. The repeated loss is in Paper 1 non-calculator algebra, where surd and index manipulation is the real obstacle rather than the calculus itself.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Statistics-led with a heavy modelling load: regression, hypothesis testing, matrices, graph theory and differential equations solved numerically. Paper 3 rewards a student who can interpret output and write a conclusion in context, and penalises one who reports a number without units.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Two papers with the graphical display calculator assumed throughout. Financial maths, normal distribution, chi-squared and bivariate statistics dominate. Students lose marks by rounding too early and by failing to state the hypotheses before running a test.

The Mathematics Exploration (Internal Assessment)

HL and SL, 20% of the grade

A 12 to 20 page individual piece marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. The commonest failure is a topic so broad that the maths stays at course level. A tutor may question a draft and point at the criteria; the writing stays the student's own.

MYP Mathematics (Extended)

MYP 4-5

The route that preserves access to Analysis and Approaches Higher Level. Quadratics, surds, sequences, trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles and probability. The criterion worth targeting is Investigating patterns, where a general rule must be justified rather than merely stated.

Physics

HL and SL

Diploma Physics shares a border with maths: kinematics graphs, gradient and area interpretation, logarithmic plots in the nuclear and thermal topics, and uncertainty propagation. A student weak on rearranging formulae loses physics marks that look like physics gaps but are algebra gaps.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole calculations, equilibrium constants, pH and the Arrhenius equation all sit on algebra and logarithms. The Chemistry Internal Assessment also needs a defensible treatment of uncertainty, which is where a maths-literate tutor adds more than a chemistry-only one.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level Economics carries quantitative questions on elasticity, tax incidence, and the calculation of national income figures. Diagram accuracy and the correct labelling of axes carry marks, and students who can differentiate find the marginal reasoning considerably easier.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Logic, binary and hexadecimal conversion, Big-O reasoning and the Higher Level abstract data structures topic all reward mathematical habits. The internal assessment is a solution developed for a real client, and the documentation is where marks are most often left behind.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways of buying IB maths tuition in Al Raha Beach, priced and shaped differently. The right one depends on whether you are fixing a named gap, carrying a course across a year, or working towards a single component.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

The default. One hour a week with the same Mathematics specialist, timed to Gulf Standard Time and pointed at whatever the school is teaching that fortnight. Over a school year this is 34 to 36 hours, which is the figure to compare against any package quote you receive. Lessons are delivered over live video with a shared whiteboard and a screen-shared past paper.

  • Cheapest route to continuity, because the tutor keeps the running record of what is fixed
  • Best for a student who is coping but losing marks in predictable places
  • Pauses during school holidays without losing the slot

Diagnostic block, four sessions

Four hours bought deliberately as an investigation rather than as teaching. The tutor works through a recent paper or two with your child, marks against the real criteria, and reports which losses are content, which are method and which are exam technique. Families who do this first usually buy fewer total hours afterwards, which is the point.

  • Produces a written list of named topics rather than a general impression
  • Useful before committing to a two-year plan
  • Often shows that the problem is calculator strategy rather than content

Exploration review clinic

A short block built around the Mathematics Internal Assessment. The tutor interrogates the proposed topic against the criteria, checks that the mathematics will reach beyond course level, and reviews the student's own drafts with questions rather than corrections. Nothing is written for the student, and no text is supplied for them to use.

  • Topic viability checked before weeks are spent on an unworkable idea
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • A record of what was discussed, which supports the school's authenticity requirements

Paper 3 and final-stretch intensive

For Higher Level students in the run-up to the exam series, concentrated on the 20% component that most students meet least. Two sessions a week for six to eight weeks, each built around one extended problem-solving question worked slowly and then a second worked under time. This is the block where the hourly rate is worth paying at the top of the band.

  • Targets the component with the smallest amount of available practice material
  • Timed conditions from the second week, not the last
  • Can run alongside the school's own revision programme rather than duplicating it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Raha Beach

01

What an IB maths tutor costs in Al Raha Beach, by the month

Hourly rates mislead parents because nobody buys one hour. The useful number is what leaves the account each month, and on a weekly one-hour schedule that is roughly four or five sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour tuition in this market run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are the brackets a family in Al Raha Beach should be planning against.

Against those monthly figures, the packages advertised in the emirate start to make sense. An online package at around AED 799 a month for eight sessions works out near AED 100 a session, which is budget-tier pricing bought in bulk. An in-home package at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits is roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour, which is the in-home band with travel folded in. Neither is a bargain or a rip-off; they are different products.

The table below is the market, not an IB Gram price list. Rates are drawn from published competitor pages and Bestimate's Dubai and Abu Dhabi rate work as read in October 2026, and they are ranges because this market genuinely has no single price. IB Gram's own position is to start with a free trial lesson and quote after it, once the subject, level and the number of hours are actually known.

Read the right-hand column first. A family comparing AED 180 with AED 300 is comparing the wrong things if one figure includes a drive to Al Raha Beach and the other does not. The travel premium is real money and it buys physical presence, which is worth something to some students and nothing to others. What it does not buy is a wider choice of specialist, and at Higher Level that is usually the more valuable of the two.

Where families in this corridor waste money on maths tuition

  • Buy a diagnosis before you buy a block of hours
  • Match the rate to the difficulty of the work, not to the whole year
  • Put a termly review point in the plan and actually use it
  • Ask the school what free support exists before paying for the same thing
  • Compare total annual hours, not hourly rates, when weighing two quotes

The first waste is buying hours before buying a diagnosis. A parent sees a 4 on a report, books twenty hours, and the tutor spends six of them finding out what is wrong. Those six hours cost the same as the useful ones. Four deliberate diagnostic sessions at the front end change the shape of the whole year, because they turn a vague problem into a list: quadratic inequalities, the chain rule in composite functions, calculator-based solving on Paper 2.

The second is paying a specialist rate for work that does not need one. Catching up on MYP algebraic manipulation does not require a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist at the top of the band. Interpreting a Paper 3 mark scheme does. Families who use one rate for everything either overpay on the easy work or under-resource the hard work, and the second is the more expensive mistake because it shows up in the final grade.

The third is the retainer that outlives its purpose. A weekly slot booked in DP1 term one often runs for two years because nobody cancels it, long after the original gap closed. The honest version of a tutoring plan has review points in it. At the end of each term, the question should be whether the named problem from the diagnostic is still a problem, and if it is not, the hours should move to the next one or stop.

The fourth is duplication. Several Al Raha and Khalifa City schools run their own after-school maths clinics at no extra charge, and a paid tutor covering the same ground in the same week is money spent twice. Ask the school what support already exists before buying, and point the paid hours at what the school does not cover: the Exploration, Paper 3, and the gaps that are personal to your child rather than general to the class.

03

Online against in-home maths tuition for an Al Raha Beach household

IB Gram delivers to Al Raha Beach as one-to-one online tuition over live video. We do not run home visits in the UAE; that is a service we offer only in India. Being plain about that is more useful than pretending otherwise, because it lets the comparison be made on the merits rather than on availability.

The case for online in this specific corridor is supply. Al Raha Beach is roughly equidistant from the island campuses and the inland Khalifa City cluster, which is pleasant for a school run and unhelpful for finding a tutor. The pool of people who hold a Mathematics degree, know Applications and Interpretation Higher Level, and can be physically present in Al Muneera at 5pm on a Tuesday is small. Remove the travel constraint and the pool is the pool of qualified Mathematics teachers, which is a different order of choice.

The case for in-home is real and worth stating. Some students, particularly younger ones and those with attention difficulties, work better with another person in the room. A physical presence makes it harder to disengage. Written work on paper is easier to supervise than work on a tablet. For a Year 7 student who needs supervision as much as teaching, that can matter more than specialist depth.

For Diploma maths specifically, the balance tips towards online, and the reason is the whiteboard. Mathematics at this level is worked out line by line, and a shared digital whiteboard with a screen-shared past paper and a recorded session is a better teaching surface than a kitchen table. The student can rewatch the worked solution. That is not available from a visit.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that changes the bill

No tutoring decision costs an Al Raha Beach family more than the maths route chosen at the end of MYP 5. It sets two years of difficulty, determines whether Paper 3 exists, and narrows or widens the degrees your child can apply to. Getting it wrong and switching in DP1 term two is expensive in both money and time, because the content overlap between the two courses is smaller than the shared name suggests.

Analysis and Approaches is the calculus route. It rewards algebraic fluency and formal reasoning, and at Higher Level it includes proof, complex numbers and vectors. Applications and Interpretation is the statistics and modelling route, built around the graphical display calculator, regression, hypothesis testing and, at Higher Level, matrices and graph theory. A student who enjoys a clean algebraic manipulation and a student who enjoys interpreting a dataset are not the same student.

University prerequisites are where the real cost sits. Engineering, mathematics, physics and most economics degrees at competitive universities expect Analysis and Approaches, commonly at Higher Level. Many business, psychology, design and life-science routes accept either. Universities in the UAE and the wider Gulf vary, and the only reliable method is to read the prerequisite page for the specific programme and the specific intake year rather than relying on a general rule.

The practical advice is to spend money on the decision rather than on recovering from it. Two or three hours with a Mathematics specialist at the end of MYP 5, working through sample questions from both courses with your child, costs less than one month of remedial tuition in DP1. A Maths AA tutor in Abu Dhabi and a Maths AI tutor in Abu Dhabi are looking for different things in a student, and they will tell you honestly which way the evidence points.

Tutoring cost in context: fees, exam entry and a two-year Diploma plan

Tuition is a small line next to school fees, which is exactly why it gets approved without scrutiny. Putting it beside the other numbers changes how carefully it is bought. A family already paying substantial annual fees for a Diploma place in this corridor is adding a few thousand dirhams, and the question worth asking is not whether it is affordable but whether it is the best use of that few thousand.

The emirate-level backdrop is relevant. In Dubai, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the following academic year under the emirate's economic incentives package. Abu Dhabi runs its own fee regime through ADEK, which governs when and how a school may apply for a tuition increase. Neither authority regulates private tutoring rates, which is why the tutoring market has a five-fold spread and school fees do not.

Exam entry is the cost parents forget. Diploma candidates sitting through their school pay registration through the school and it is usually folded into fees. A private candidate pays separately, and the figure depends on the number of subjects and the centre. Any family considering a resit outside their school should get that quote in writing before planning the tutoring around it.

Set against those figures, the table below sketches a two-year Diploma maths plan built the way this page argues for: a diagnostic block, a lighter maintenance year, an Exploration clinic, and an intensive before the exam series. The total is deliberately shown against the alternative of two years of unexamined weekly tuition, because the two are not far apart in cost and are very far apart in effect.

06

What a maths tutor may and may not do with the Exploration

The Mathematics Internal Assessment is 20% of the grade at both levels and it must be the student's own work. The boundary is not a matter of taste. The IB treats the submission of work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student, including the loss of the Diploma. A page in this market that is vague about this boundary is doing families a disservice, and at least one site competing for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright.

What a tutor may do is substantial. They may discuss whether a proposed topic will support mathematics beyond course level. They may explain a criterion in the published guidance and point at where a draft fails to meet it. They may teach a technique the student has decided to use. They may ask why a step follows from the one before, which is the most useful question available and the one students answer least well. They may read a draft and respond with questions.

What a tutor may not do is write, rewrite, edit to completion, supply text, supply the maths, choose the topic on the student's behalf, or hand over a worked model to be adapted. IB Gram tutors do none of those things, and a tutor who offers to is a risk to your child's Diploma rather than a shortcut to it. If a provider's pitch includes a finished piece of work, that is the signal to stop the conversation.

Keeping a record helps. Schools ask candidates to account for how a piece of work developed, and a student who can point to dated drafts and a note of what was discussed in each session is in a far stronger position than one who cannot. Sessions on the Exploration are therefore organised around the student's own draft history, not around a tutor's template.

07

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted, and it is permitted by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone offering private tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and the published guidance does not set out a fine schedule, so no figure should be quoted to you as fact.

The eligible categories are wider than parents expect. They include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own service, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

One restriction matters specifically in Abu Dhabi. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a comparable restriction. This has been press-reported rather than read from the policy document itself, so treat it as the direction of travel and verify the current wording with ADEK. The practical consequence is clear enough: do not seek out your child's own class teacher as a paid tutor.

For an Al Raha Beach family the verification question is simple to ask and revealing to hear answered. Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit, ask which category they hold it under, and ask whether they are employed at your child's school. A provider who cannot answer has not asked.

The exam calendar, counted backwards from the series

Tutoring money is spent well or badly depending on when it is spent, and the calendar is what decides that. Abu Dhabi Diploma candidates sit the May session. Cambridge IGCSE and O Level candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only and does not apply here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Those are the fixed points everything else hangs from.

IB session and results dates are not restated on this page. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so rather than publish a date that might be wrong, the honest instruction is to take the exact exam window and results date from your child's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly. What can be said safely is the shape: internal deadlines for the Exploration land well before the exam window, and mock examinations sit a term ahead of it.

Counting backwards is the useful exercise. If the Exploration draft is due to the school in the first half of DP2, the topic has to be settled in late DP1, which means the viability conversation belongs in DP1 term three and not in DP2. If Paper 3 is 20% of a Higher Level grade, the intensive work on it belongs in the twelve weeks before the series, not in the final fortnight when every other subject is also competing for time.

For Cambridge candidates, the zone detail is worth knowing. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school which zone it sits in, then read that timetable rather than a general one.

Getting started, and what happens when no specialist is free

The honest version of starting is short. You tell us the board, the subject, the level and the component that is going wrong. We propose a Mathematics specialist and a time. The first lesson is a free trial with no card required, and after it you decide whether to continue. Nothing about that process requires anyone to travel to Al Raha Beach.

Matching for Diploma maths usually takes a couple of working days for Analysis and Approaches at either level, because the pool is deepest there. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level takes longer, because fewer teachers have carried a cohort through the matrices, graph theory and numerical differential equations content. Specific pairings, such as Applications and Interpretation Higher Level alongside Physics Higher Level with the same tutor, take longer again.

When no suitable specialist is free, there are three honest answers and we give whichever is true. The first is a waiting time, with a date. The second is a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus over the same live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is how IB Gram serves many Gulf families and which we disclose rather than conceal. The third is that we cannot cover it well, in which case we say so instead of placing a generalist into a Higher Level seat.

What a family should expect in return is a record. After the diagnostic block you receive a list of named topics and components rather than a general impression, and after each term there is a review point where the plan either moves on or stops. That is also the mechanism that stops a retainer outliving its purpose, which this page has argued is where most of the wasted money in this market goes.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Raha Beach

Al Raha Beach sits on the airport side of Abu Dhabi, and the communities around it share schools, traffic and session timings. Online delivery means the same Mathematics specialist takes students across all of them, so the notes below are about logistics rather than coverage.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartment buildings along the Channel and Al Muneera, with Al Zeina at the northern end. Most Diploma students here travel inland to school rather than within the community, so a 4.45pm or 5pm session start is realistic on a weekday.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community directly inland, and the home of one of the corridor's established IB continuum schools. Families here often have a shorter school run than Al Raha Beach and can take a 4.15pm start, which matters when a sibling needs the later slot.

Khalifa City

The largest school cluster in this part of the emirate, with British and American curriculum campuses alongside IB provision. Pick-up queues run long, so Khalifa City IB maths tutor bookings tend to settle at 5.15pm or later.

Al Reef

Closer to the airport, with a mix of villas and apartments and a longer bus ride for most secondary students. Evening sessions after 5.30pm work better here than the mid-afternoon slots that suit the island communities.

Yas Island

Residential growth has outpaced secondary school provision, so many Yas families drive into the Al Raha and Khalifa corridor for Diploma places. The return leg is the constraint on session timing, not the lesson itself.

Saadiyat Island

Cultural district with a small number of high-fee campuses and a largely Diploma and A-Level cohort. The bridge crossing is the reason online slots are taken up here faster than in-home visits are booked.

Al Reem Island

Dense towers with a young family profile and a growing MYP population. Lift waits and building access make in-home tuition awkward in a way that is specific to tower communities rather than villa ones.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mainland sectors with a wide spread of curricula and a large Indian and Arab expatriate population. Demand here leans towards IGCSE and MYP maths, with Diploma support concentrated in a handful of campuses.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Raha Beach

Al Raha and Al Raha Gardens

The nearest IB continuum provision to Al Raha Beach, and the reason the corridor has a settled Diploma cohort rather than a scattered one. Students we support in this cluster are most often on Analysis and Approaches, with Applications and Interpretation taken by the business and design-leaning half of the year group.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Yasmina British Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City and Al Reef

A broad mix of British, American and IB campuses serving the inland villa communities. Maths requests from this cluster split between MYP Extended preparation and Diploma Paper 1 non-calculator work, which is the component Khalifa City students name most often.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National School
  • Reach British School
  • Abu Dhabi International School

The islands: Saadiyat, Yas and Al Reem

High-fee campuses with small Diploma cohorts, which is exactly the situation where a single school may offer only one of the two maths routes. Families on the islands reach us most often for Applications and Interpretation Higher Level, where in-emirate specialist supply is thinnest.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Sorbonne-adjacent international campuses on Al Reem

Schools are named here as the educational context of Al Raha Beach and the surrounding communities. IB Gram is an independent platform and has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school, school group, authority or examination board mentioned on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

Board, course, level and the thing that is actually going wrong: Paper 1 algebra, the Exploration topic, Paper 3 reasoning, calculator strategy. A request that names a component gets matched faster and more accurately than one that says a child needs help with maths.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson, at no charge and with no card required, with the proposed Mathematics specialist. Watch for whether your child talks during it. A trial where the tutor explains for fifty minutes and the student says four words tells you something useful about the next thirty hours.

  3. 03

Buy a diagnosis before a block

Four sessions used as an investigation rather than as teaching, producing a written list of named topics and components. This is the step families skip and then pay for twice, because an undiagnosed problem absorbs the first six hours of any block of tuition.

  4. 04

Set the schedule around the school run

Al Raha Beach students mostly travel inland to school, so slots from 4.45pm work better than mid-afternoon ones. Lessons run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the only buffer needed is the walk from the car to the desk.

  5. 05

Review at the end of each term

The question is whether the named problem from the diagnostic is still a problem. If it is closed, the hours move to the next thing or stop. If it is not, the plan changes rather than continuing unchanged, and that is also when a different tutor can be requested.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates on this page carry their source

Every AED figure here is attributed to the competitor page or rate study it came from, with the month it was read. No ranking page in this market cites a source for a single rate, and a number without a source is not information a parent can act on.

Specialist choice instead of catchment

Removing the drive to Al Raha Beach changes who can teach your child. An Applications and Interpretation Higher Level specialist is findable online and rarely findable within a twenty-minute radius of a specific Abu Dhabi community at 5pm on a weekday.

A boundary on assessed work that we state plainly

Tutors teach, question and review. They do not write, complete or supply any part of an Exploration, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. That boundary protects your child's Diploma, and it is the difference between a tutor and an essay service.

Delivery disclosed rather than implied

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one online over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE. Where a tutor is based outside the emirate, we say so before you book rather than routing you to a number and hoping you do not ask.

A plan with an endpoint in it

Tutoring that is reviewed each term either closes a gap or changes shape. An open retainer does neither, and it is the most common way money is quietly wasted in this market. Review points are built into how a block is proposed.

Independent of every school and board named here

IB Gram holds no accreditation, approval or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. Schools appear on this page as local context, not as clients or endorsers.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Raha Beach: your questions answered

How much should I budget for an IB maths tutor in Al Raha Beach for a full school year?+

Work from hours rather than from an hourly rate. One session a week across a school year is about 34 to 36 hours. At the budget online tier reported for this market, roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, that is around AED 1,600 to AED 5,400. At qualified subject-tutor rates of roughly AED 150 to 300 it is around AED 5,100 to AED 10,800. At specialist rates of AED 200 to 450 or more it rises further. Those bands come from published competitor pages and Bestimate's rate work read in October 2026. Ask any provider for the annual hour count, not just the rate.

Why does in-home maths tuition in Abu Dhabi cost more per hour than online?+

Because you are paying for travel. Market in-home rates in this emirate run roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's figures, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. The difference covers the drive, the fuel and the time a tutor cannot sell to anyone else. That premium buys physical presence in the room, which genuinely helps some students. It does not buy a wider choice of specialist, and at Higher Level that trade is usually the wrong way round.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to my villa or apartment in Al Raha Beach?+

No. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. We state this before you book rather than after. For Diploma mathematics the online format has a practical advantage beyond cost: a shared digital whiteboard with a screen-shared past paper is a better surface for working a problem line by line than a kitchen table, and the session can be rewatched.

Is it worth paying a specialist rate for MYP maths, or only for the Diploma?+

Match the rate to the difficulty of the work. Rebuilding algebraic fluency in MYP 4 or 5 does not need a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist at the top of the market band; a competent qualified teacher at mid-tier rates covers it well. Interpreting a Paper 3 mark scheme, or judging whether an Exploration topic will support mathematics beyond course level, does need that depth. Families who apply one rate to everything either overpay on the straightforward work or under-resource the hard work, and the second mistake is the one that shows in a final grade.

My child is choosing between Maths AA and AI next year. Can a tutor help us decide?+

Yes, and it is the cheapest useful thing you can buy at that point. Two or three sessions with a Mathematics specialist, working through sample questions from both courses with your child present, costs a fraction of a term of remedial tuition in DP1 after a wrong choice. Analysis and Approaches is calculus and proof led; Applications and Interpretation is statistics and modelling led with the graphical display calculator assumed throughout. The decision also depends on university prerequisites, so read the requirement page for the specific degree and intake rather than a general rule.

What is Paper 3 and why does it need its own block of tutoring?+

Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level in both Diploma maths routes and is worth 20% of the grade. It consists of two extended problem-solving questions that build across several parts, so a student has to sustain a line of reasoning rather than answer discrete items. It is also the component with the least practice material available, which is why schools often reach it late. Concentrated work across the twelve weeks before the exam series, one question worked slowly and a second worked under time, is a better use of money than spreading the same hours across two years.

Where exactly is the line between Exploration coaching and doing the work for my child?+

No, and any provider offering to should be avoided. The Exploration is 20% of the maths grade and must be the student's own work; submitting work that is not the candidate's own is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student. A tutor may test whether a topic will support mathematics beyond course level, explain a published criterion, teach a technique the student has chosen to use, and read a draft and respond with questions. Writing, editing to completion or supplying a model to adapt all sit on the wrong side of that line.

Do private maths tutors in Abu Dhabi need a permit, and how do I check?+

Yes. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Ask the tutor directly whether they hold one and under which category. Working without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, treat any specific figure quoted to you with scepticism.

Can my child's own school maths teacher tutor them privately for a fee?+

In Abu Dhabi you should assume not. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a comparable code of conduct. This has been reported in the press rather than read from the policy document, so verify the current wording with ADEK before relying on it. The practical position is straightforward: do not approach your child's class teacher as a paid tutor, and treat any provider marketing that arrangement as a risk.

Which schools near Al Raha Beach do the students you support attend?+

Students we support in this corridor come from the Al Raha and Al Raha Gardens campuses, the Khalifa City cluster and the island schools, including Raha International School, Al Yasmina Academy, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi and Repton Abu Dhabi. Those names describe the educational context of the neighbourhood. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and online delivery means a school's location has no bearing on which Mathematics specialist is available to your child.

What time can a maths session realistically start for an Al Raha Beach student?+

Most secondary students in Al Raha Beach travel inland to school rather than within the community, so the return leg lands later than the school bell suggests. A 4.45pm or 5pm start works reliably on a weekday; mid-afternoon slots rarely do. Because lessons run over live video, the only buffer needed is the walk from the car to a desk, which is typically ten to fifteen minutes rather than the half hour a visiting tutor would require. Families with two children usually take consecutive slots on the same evening.

How many sessions does a Diploma maths student usually need before the grade moves?+

There is no reliable general figure, and anyone offering one is guessing. What is predictable is the shape. Four diagnostic sessions identify which losses are content, which are method and which are exam technique. Content gaps in a named topic often close in three to six focused hours each. Method and exam-technique problems take longer because they are habits. A student losing marks through early rounding or through treating the calculator as a last resort can change that in a handful of sessions; rebuilding two years of missing algebra cannot.

Do Abu Dhabi IGCSE candidates sit the February and March Cambridge series?+

No. Cambridge offers the February and March series to India only. Candidates in the UAE sit the June series and the November series, and November functions as the main resit route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. One further detail matters: every Cambridge exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school which zone it sits in.

What happens if there is no Applications and Interpretation Higher Level specialist available?+

We tell you, with one of three honest answers. The first is a waiting time with an actual date attached. The second is a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus over the same live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is disclosed before you book rather than hidden behind a phone number. The third is that we cannot cover it well, in which case we say so rather than placing a generalist into a Higher Level seat. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level has the thinnest specialist supply of the four Diploma maths routes.

Is an online maths tutor based outside Abu Dhabi a problem for my child?+

It depends on two things: the syllabus and the clock. A tutor who has taught Analysis and Approaches Higher Level through to the exam series knows the same course your child's school teaches, because the course is set by the IB rather than by a country. Timing is the practical constraint, and it is solved by booking on Gulf Standard Time so lessons sit in your evening rather than someone else's. What does change is choice: the pool stops being people who can drive to Al Raha Beach and becomes qualified Mathematics teachers.

Start with a diagnosis, not a retainer

If you take one thing from this page, make it the order of operations. Find out what is actually going wrong before buying a block of hours, match the rate to the difficulty of the work, and put a review point at the end of each term so the plan either moves on or stops. An IB maths tutor in Al Raha Beach is worth real money when the hours are pointed at a named component and close to worthless when they are bought as general reassurance. Tell us the board, the course, the level and the component, take the free trial lesson, and decide after it. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
