IGCSE Maths Tutor in Al Raha Beach

Most parents searching for an IGCSE maths tutor in Al Raha Beach are really asking one question: is there anybody nearby who knows the exact syllabus my child is sitting? The honest answer is that proximity is the wrong filter. Four different IGCSE maths specifications are taught in Abu Dhabi schools, and the right tutor is the one who knows the code on your child's exam entry. IB Gram matches on syllabus and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched on syllabus code and tier, not on how close a tutor lives
  • Cambridge 0580, 0607, 0606 and Pearson 4MA1 taught as separate courses
  • One-to-one lessons over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • A free trial lesson first, with no card details collected

IB & IGCSE in Al Raha Beach

Proximity is the wrong filter for an IGCSE maths tutor

A parent in Al Raha Beach types the search with a map in mind. Somebody within a fifteen-minute drive, ideally in the same community or in Al Raha Gardens, who can arrive after the school run. It is a reasonable instinct and it produces a poor shortlist, because the thing that determines whether a maths tutor is useful has nothing to do with where they sleep.

What determines it is the specification. A student at one Al Raha corridor school may be entered for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended, sitting Papers 2 and 4. A student two kilometres away may be on Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 Extended, which requires a graphics calculator and ends with a compulsory investigation paper that 0580 does not have. A third may be on Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, 4MA1, Higher tier, where both papers allow a calculator and each is worth half the grade. These are different courses that share a word.

The difference is not cosmetic. On 0580 Extended a calculator is permitted in both papers but the questions are written on the assumption that algebra carries the method, so a student who reaches for the calculator first is practising the wrong reflex. On 0607 the graphics calculator is mandatory and a correct answer without the required sketch or table loses marks. On 4MA1 Higher the back pages carry proof-style and vector questions that reward a written argument rather than a calculation. Three different sets of habits, three different first lessons.

The practical consequence is that a tutor who is excellent on 0580 Extended can waste six weeks of a 0607 student's time by drilling the wrong paper style, and will not know to teach the investigation at all. A tutor who has only taught 4MA1 will build a student's method around calculator availability, which is exactly the habit that loses marks on a 0580 Paper 2. None of that is visible from a profile that says IGCSE Maths.

So the first thing to do is not to search harder but to find out what your child is actually sitting. The information is on the exam entry statement the school issues, on a past paper header, or available from the head of mathematics in one email. A four-digit code and the word Core, Extended, Foundation or Higher is all you need. With that in hand the shortlist changes completely, and the geography stops mattering.

IB Gram matches on that basis. We are an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to any school, authority or examination board named on this page. IGCSE maths tuition in Al Raha Beach is delivered as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is something we offer only in India, and we would rather say so on the page than after you ask.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Raha Beach families reach IGCSE maths from several directions, and the stage a student is at changes what a tutor should be doing. The four stages below cover the whole British-curriculum maths route through an Abu Dhabi school.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 Mathematics

The three years before the IGCSE course begins, and the period when the tier decision is quietly being made. Negative numbers, fractions as operators, index laws, linear equations, ratio and proportional reasoning. A student who leaves Year 9 unable to manipulate a fraction confidently will meet that same weakness in algebraic fractions two years later, dressed differently.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens students are mostly in British-curriculum campuses within the Al Raha and Khalifa City corridor, so Year 9 reports arrive early enough to act on. This is the cheapest point in the whole route to fix arithmetic fluency, and the stage at which proximity to a tutor matters least of all.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE Mathematics

A two-year course assessed entirely by written examination, with no coursework component in any of the common specifications. The tier set in Year 10 caps or opens the grade available. Cambridge 0580 Core candidates can be awarded grades C to G and Extended candidates A* to E; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation caps at grade 5 while Higher runs 9 down to 4 with a safety-net 3.

The corridor's schools split between Cambridge and Pearson, and a handful enter students for Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 because it suits an IB-bound cohort. An IGCSE maths tutor in Al Raha Beach has to be matched to whichever of those three a particular school uses, and that varies by school rather than by neighbourhood.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 is a separate qualification sat alongside 0580 Extended by stronger cohorts. It introduces differentiation, integration, binomial expansion, logarithms and vectors ahead of A-Level or Diploma study. Students find the jump in abstraction harder than the volume of content, and the papers reward clean algebraic presentation rather than speed.

Only some campuses in the Al Raha and Khalifa City corridor offer 0606, which makes it a textbook case for online matching. A student may be the only person in their year group taking it, and the school may have one teacher covering it, so a specialist from outside the emirate is often the only realistic second opinion.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A-Level, IB Diploma and the transition out

What IGCSE maths is for. A-Level Mathematics assumes fluency with surds, indices and algebraic manipulation from day one, and IB Diploma Analysis and Approaches assumes the same. The students who struggle in the first term post-16 are almost never the ones who found IGCSE content hard; they are the ones who passed it with heavy calculator dependence.

Al Raha Beach sits beside both A-Level and IB continuum provision, so Year 11 students in this community face a genuine fork. A short block of work on non-calculator fluency in the summer after IGCSE is the highest-value maths tuition available at that moment, and it is rarely the thing families buy.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below is organised by specification and topic area rather than by a generic subject name, because that is how a tutor should be chosen. Each entry names what the component assesses and where Abu Dhabi candidates most often lose marks.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended

Papers 2 and 4

Paper 2 is short-answer and fast; Paper 4 is structured and longer. Algebraic fractions, simultaneous equations with a quadratic, bounds, and transformations of graphs carry the heaviest loss. Marks go on unsimplified answers and on working that jumps a line the examiner needed to see.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Core

Papers 1 and 3

A narrower syllabus with grades C to G available. The losses cluster in ratio, percentage change in both directions, and reading a compound bar chart. Core candidates who are quietly capable of Extended are the single most common misallocation in this market.

Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 Extended

Papers 2, 4 and 6

A graphics calculator is required throughout and Paper 6 is a compulsory investigation. Students lose marks by producing a correct answer without the required sketch or table, and by stopping the investigation at a pattern rather than a justified generalisation.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1 Higher

Papers 1H and 2H

Two papers, each worth half the grade, with a calculator permitted in both. The characteristic losses are in vectors, circle theorems, and the proof-style questions at the back end of each paper where students write a calculation instead of an argument.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1 Foundation

Papers 1F and 2F

Capped at grade 5. Content weighting sits on number, ratio and basic algebra. The most valuable tutoring here is not new content but timing and method, because Foundation candidates routinely leave achievable marks on the last two pages unattempted.

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606

Papers 1 and 2

Calculus, logarithms, binomial expansion, trigonometric identities and vectors, taken alongside 0580 Extended. The difficulty is abstraction rather than volume, and presentation carries real marks: a correct result from unreadable working scores less than it should.

Pearson Edexcel Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1

Papers 1 and 2

The Pearson counterpart to Additional Mathematics, covering series, calculus, coordinate geometry and proof. Usually offered to a small group within a year cohort, which makes in-school support thin and an external specialist disproportionately useful.

IGCSE Physics (Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Physics marks are frequently lost to maths rather than physics: rearranging a formula, handling standard form, reading a gradient. A maths-literate tutor can move a physics grade without teaching any new physics content at all.

IGCSE Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Mole calculations, concentration, percentage yield and empirical formula questions are arithmetic problems in chemical clothing. Candidates who are secure on ratio and proportion score consistently higher on these without extra chemistry revision.

IGCSE Economics and Business

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Both carry calculation and data-response questions: elasticity, break-even, index numbers, percentage change. Students who can interpret a table and comment on it in context rather than restating the numbers pick up the marks most often left behind.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working, each suited to a different stage of the IGCSE maths course. The choice should follow the diagnosis rather than the calendar.

Weekly one-to-one on a named specification

An hour a week with a tutor who teaches your child's exact code and tier, working a fortnight behind the school's scheme of work so that content is consolidated rather than previewed. Past paper questions are screen-shared and worked line by line on a shared whiteboard, and the session can be rewatched afterwards.

  • The tutor keeps the record of which topics are closed and which are open
  • Paper-specific technique built in from the start, not added at the end
  • Suits a student who understands the content but loses marks predictably

Topic repair block

A short run of sessions aimed at two or three named topics rather than at the whole course. Algebraic fractions, bounds, circle theorems and vectors are the usual candidates. Each topic is taught, then tested with past paper questions from the correct specification, then revisited a fortnight later to check it held.

  • Three to six hours per topic is typical for a genuine content gap
  • Ends with evidence rather than an impression
  • Cheapest useful intervention after a disappointing mock

Investigation and Additional Mathematics support

For students on Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, where Paper 6 is a compulsory investigation, and for those taking 0606 or 4PM1 as an extra qualification. These are the courses where school capacity is thinnest and where a specification-matched specialist makes the clearest difference.

  • Investigation technique: pattern, conjecture, justification, generalisation
  • Graphics calculator method taught as a tool rather than a last resort
  • Bridges directly into A-Level or Diploma maths content

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Raha Beach

01

Which IGCSE maths specification is your child actually sitting?

This is the question that makes the search answerable. Four specifications account for almost all IGCSE maths entries in Abu Dhabi schools, and they differ in ways that change how a tutor works from the first session. The code is a four-character string on the exam entry statement, and it is also printed on the header of every past paper the school hands out.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is the most widely entered. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3; Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4. Paper 2 is short-answer and relentless, Paper 4 is structured and allows partial credit across a longer question. A calculator is permitted in all four papers, but the Extended questions are written on the assumption that algebra, not the calculator, carries the method.

Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is the one that catches parents out. It requires a graphics calculator, uses non-calculator and calculator papers in a different arrangement, and ends with a compulsory investigation paper. Schools that run an IB continuum often prefer it because the investigation and the graphing work map onto Diploma habits. A tutor who has never taught the investigation paper is not equipped for this course.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, 4MA1, uses two equally weighted papers with a calculator allowed in both. Specification B, 4MB1, is a different structure again. Pearson also offers Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 as the extension route where Cambridge offers Additional Mathematics 0606. Ask for the code, then read the table below.

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher: what the tier decides

The tier is a bigger decision than most families realise, because it sets a ceiling. On Cambridge 0580, Core candidates can be awarded grades C to G and Extended candidates A* to E. On Pearson 4MA1, Foundation tier caps at grade 5 while Higher runs from 9 down to 4 with a safety-net 3. A student placed on the lower tier cannot reach the top grades however well they perform, and no amount of tutoring changes that arithmetic.

Schools make the tier decision for sound reasons, usually from Year 10 assessment evidence, and it is often right. The cases worth questioning are specific: a student whose weakness is arithmetic speed rather than conceptual understanding, a student who joined the school mid-course and was placed cautiously, and a student whose Year 10 results were depressed by something other than maths. Those are the three situations in which a diagnostic session earns its fee immediately.

The decision usually stays open until the entry deadline, which sits months before the exam window. That is the window in which evidence can change a placement, and it closes quietly. A parent who wants the tier reconsidered needs marked work showing the student handling Extended or Higher content, not a conversation about potential, and they need it before entries go in.

The reverse case matters too. A student struggling badly on Extended content who is moved to Core can convert a likely E into a secure C, which for the Ministry of Education's five-subject equivalency count is the difference between a subject that counts and one that is marginal. Tutoring aimed at the right tier beats tutoring aimed at the ambitious one.

What 'knows the syllabus' actually means in a maths tutor

  • Ask which papers your child sits and what each is worth; a specialist answers without checking
  • Ask which two topics to start with and why those two specifically
  • Ask what the tutor wants to see from the last mock paper before planning
  • Watch whether the tutor stops the student to ask what the examiner can see
  • Count how much your child speaks in the trial lesson rather than how much the tutor does

Parents use the phrase constantly and providers repeat it back without content. It is worth defining, because it is testable in a single free trial lesson. A tutor who knows the specification can name the papers your child will sit and their weightings without looking them up. They know whether a calculator is available in each one. They know which topics are on the Extended syllabus but absent from Core, and which appear on 4MA1 Higher but not on 0580 Extended.

They also know the mark scheme, which is a separate kind of knowledge. IGCSE maths papers award method marks for work that leads towards a correct answer even when the final line is wrong, and they withhold marks for an answer that appears without the step that justifies it. A tutor who has marked or taught against the published mark schemes will stop a student mid-question to ask what the examiner can see, which is a habit no amount of content knowledge substitutes for.

And they know the sequence. Circle theorems before vectors is a different lesson from vectors before circle theorems, and neither is useful if simultaneous equations are still shaky. A tutor who knows the syllabus builds a route through it from where the student actually is, rather than following the textbook order because the textbook is in front of them.

You can test all three in a trial lesson by asking three questions. Which papers does my child sit and what are they worth. Which two topics should we do first, and why those. What would you want to see from the last mock before deciding. A tutor who answers those three crisply is a specification specialist. One who answers in generalities about confidence and foundations is not, regardless of how close they live to Al Raha Beach.

Where Abu Dhabi IGCSE candidates lose maths marks, topic by topic

Loss patterns in IGCSE maths are strikingly consistent, which is good news because it makes them addressable. The largest single cluster across both boards sits in algebraic manipulation: algebraic fractions, rearranging a formula where the subject appears twice, and solving a quadratic when the question did not announce that it was a quadratic. These are not conceptually difficult. They are unpractised.

The second cluster is in proportional reasoning. Reverse percentages, compound interest over a non-integer number of periods, direct and inverse proportion with a constant to find, and best-buy comparisons with awkward units. Students who can do forward percentage change confidently often cannot run it backwards, and examiners test the backwards direction deliberately.

The third is geometric reasoning, which is where Higher and Extended candidates separate. Circle theorems require a named reason, not just a correct angle, and vectors require an argument written in vector notation rather than a diagram with arrows. Pearson Higher papers place these towards the back, which means they also collide with the timing problem and get attempted badly or not at all.

The fourth is presentation. Marks are lost to unsimplified answers, to premature rounding carried through a multi-step calculation, to units omitted from a final line, and to working that skips the step the mark scheme needed. A tutor who fixes only these four habits, teaching no new content whatsoever, will usually move a grade boundary's worth of marks. It is also the fastest cluster to address, which makes it the sensible place to start after a disappointing mock rather than the place to finish.

Cambridge or Pearson: how to find out, and why the answer matters

Families often do not know which board their child is entered with, and the school rarely volunteers it in a form a parent notices. There are three reliable ways to find out. The exam entry statement names the board and the specification code. Any past paper the school issues carries the board's name and the code in the header. And the head of mathematics will answer the question in one line if asked directly.

Knowing the board matters for a reason beyond matching a tutor. Past papers are specification-specific, and a student revising from the wrong board's papers is practising the wrong question styles. A 0580 Extended candidate working through 4MA1 Higher papers will meet question formats that do not appear on their own paper and will miss the ones that do. The time is not wasted exactly, but it is spent at a poor exchange rate.

The boards also differ in how they release material. Both publish past papers and mark schemes through their own channels, and both treat that material as their copyright. A tutor should reference and link official material rather than distributing it, and a provider offering a bundle of papers as a download is not doing your child a favour. Use the school's access and the boards' own sites.

One more practical difference. Pearson publishes provisional timetables for forthcoming series well ahead of time, which is why any session plan should link the live official timetable rather than quoting a date that may be revised. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the correct zone timetable is essential, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after using the wrong one.

The honest answer about tutor supply near Al Raha Beach

Here is the position stated plainly. There are qualified maths tutors living within driving distance of Al Raha Beach, and the market rate for an in-home visit in Abu Dhabi runs roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's rate work, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Those tutors exist and some of them are good. What the geography cannot guarantee is that any of them teaches your child's specification and tier.

The thinner the course, the worse the local odds. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 with its investigation paper, Additional Mathematics 0606, and Pearson Further Pure 4PM1 are each taken by small numbers in any given Abu Dhabi year group. The chance that a specialist in one of them happens to live near Al Raha Beach and be free at 5pm on a Tuesday is not a plan. It is a coincidence a family would be waiting for.

IB Gram's answer is to remove the distance constraint rather than to pretend to satisfy it. Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which means the pool is every qualified teacher of that specification rather than every qualified teacher within a twenty-minute radius. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, and saying so is more useful than implying otherwise and disappointing a family at the booking stage.

Where no specification specialist is free, we say which of three things is true: a waiting time with a date on it, a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus on the same clock, which we disclose rather than conceal behind a phone number, or an honest admission that we cannot cover it well. The last of those loses us the booking and is still the right answer.

MoE equivalency: how many IGCSEs count, and at what grade

This is the part of the British-curriculum route that competitor pages in this market almost entirely skip, and it changes which grades matter. For the Ministry of Education's equivalency of a secondary school certificate on the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. They must also submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade.

Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for that count. That detail matters because at least one competing site ranking for these searches tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects, which is not what the published clarification says. Getting the number right is worth more to a family than any amount of marketing copy.

Mathematics is almost always one of the five, which is why a borderline maths grade has consequences beyond the subject itself. It also explains why moving a student to the tier they can actually secure a grade on is sometimes better advice than keeping them on the ambitious tier. A secure C or 4 that counts towards equivalency is worth more than a marginal E that might not.

Equivalency is a process run by the Ministry and the emirate attestation authorities, not by a tutoring platform, and nothing on this page should be read as IB Gram performing or guaranteeing any part of it. Verify the current requirements on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority before acting, and treat tutoring as help with the grades rather than help with the paperwork.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside IGCSE maths

A family budgeting for IGCSE maths tuition should know what else is on the timetable, because the mandatory UAE subjects take real teaching time and occasionally real tutoring money. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, and must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Every emirate's requirement sits on that federal baseline.

In Dubai, KHDA's published guidance makes Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies mandatory in all private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with the requirements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. The guidance also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ.

The language-of-instruction rules are specific. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students. For non-Arabs, Islamic Education and the Moral, Social and Cultural studies strand are taught in the school's licensed-curriculum language. Schools must also ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects.

Two further details are worth a parent's attention. Instructional time for the mandatory subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and the guidance advises a minimum of 25 minutes for any mandatory subject lesson. And the use of any different or additional content for these subjects without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, which constrains how any tutoring in them can honestly be described.

Sitting the exams: the June and November choice

Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only, so no Abu Dhabi candidate is sitting it and any page that tells a UAE parent otherwise is giving them a date they cannot act on. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November.

For most Al Raha Beach students the decision is made by the school: Year 11 sits the June window, with November available as the resit route. Where a student needs one subject improved rather than a whole set, the November series is the efficient option, and the tutoring block that supports it runs through the summer and the first weeks of the autumn term rather than in the spring.

Results timing is worth planning around because it drives the resit decision. Pearson's published pattern is instructive: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. A family deciding on a resit needs the tutoring conversation booked before results arrive, not after.

Private candidate entry is a separate matter. A student not entered through their own school pays entry fees directly and must find a centre that accepts private candidates, and the fee depends on the number of subjects. Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Raha Beach

The communities below share the Al Raha corridor's schools and its traffic. Because lessons are delivered online, the same specification specialist takes students from all of them, and the notes concern school choice and timing rather than tutor coverage.

Al Raha Beach

Al Zeina, Al Muneera and the Channel buildings. A waterfront apartment community whose secondary students mostly travel inland, so the realistic weekday session window opens around 4.45pm rather than straight after the bell.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community immediately inland with an IB continuum school on its doorstep, which means a number of Year 11 students here are choosing between an A-Level and a Diploma route and need different maths preparation accordingly.

Khalifa City

The deepest school cluster on this side of Abu Dhabi, spanning British, American and IB provision. Cambridge and Pearson specifications are both in use here, sometimes in schools a few streets apart, which is the clearest illustration of why code matters more than catchment.

Al Reef

Airport-side community with longer bus journeys for secondary students. Sessions settle later in the evening here, and families with two IGCSE candidates usually take back-to-back slots after 5.30pm.

Yas Island

Fast residential growth with limited secondary provision on the island itself, so Year 10 and 11 students commute into the Al Raha and Khalifa corridor. The commute is the reason online slots fill faster here than visiting tutors are booked.

Saadiyat Island

A small number of high-fee campuses with mixed IGCSE and Diploma pathways. Cohorts are small enough that a single Additional Mathematics or Further Pure class may have very few students in it.

Al Reem Island

Tower living with a growing Year 7 to 11 population. Building access and lift waits make a visiting tutor's arrival time unpredictable in a way that does not apply to villa communities.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mainland sectors with a wide curriculum spread and a large IGCSE cohort. Pearson specifications are well represented here, and demand concentrates on 4MA1 Higher tier work in Year 11.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Raha Beach

Al Raha and Al Raha Gardens campuses

The closest provision to Al Raha Beach, and the cluster where the Cambridge and IB routes sit side by side. IGCSE maths requests from students we support here are mostly 0580 Extended and 0607 Extended, with the investigation paper the single most common reason a family looks outside the school for help.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Yasmina British Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City and Al Reef

A broad inland cluster covering several boards. Both Cambridge and Pearson maths specifications are entered from this cluster, which is why the first question we ask a Khalifa City or Al Reef family is for the code on the exam entry statement rather than the name of the school.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National School
  • Reach British School
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Island campuses: Saadiyat, Yas and Al Reem

Small year groups and high fees. Students we support from the islands most often need Additional Mathematics or Further Pure support, precisely because those classes are the smallest in a small cohort and in-school capacity for them is limited.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Aldar Academies campuses on Yas Island

Schools are named to describe the educational context of Al Raha Beach and the neighbouring communities. IB Gram is independent and has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school, group, authority or examination board mentioned here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the code before you shortlist anyone

Ask the school for the exam entry statement, or read the header of a past paper. You are looking for a four-character code and a tier word: 0580 Extended, 0607 Extended, 4MA1 Higher, 4MA1 Foundation. That single string changes the entire shortlist and takes one email to obtain.

  2. 02

Send us the code, the tier and the last mock paper

A marked mock is worth more than any description of the problem, because the losses are visible on it. We use it to pick a tutor who teaches that specification and to decide which two topics the first sessions should attack.

  3. 03

Test the tutor in the free trial lesson

Ask which papers your child sits and what each is worth, which two topics to start with and why, and what the tutor wants to see from the mock. Crisp answers mean a specification specialist. The trial is free and no card details are collected to take it.

  4. 04

Work in topic blocks with evidence at the end

Each block targets named topics, teaches them, tests them against past paper questions from the correct board, and revisits them a fortnight later to confirm they held. The output is marked work, not a progress adjective.

  5. 05

Confirm the tier decision before the entry deadline

Entries close months before the exam window. If the tier looks wrong, the school needs marked work showing the student handling the higher-tier content, and it needs it before that deadline rather than after a disappointing mock in the spring.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on specification, not on postcode

A tutor is proposed because they teach your child's code and tier. Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, Additional Mathematics 0606 and Pearson 4MA1 are treated as four different courses, because in practice they are.

Mark-scheme literacy, not just content knowledge

IGCSE maths awards method marks and withholds them for missing steps. Tutors who have worked against the published mark schemes stop a student mid-question to ask what the examiner can see, which is the habit that moves grades.

Honest answers about supply

For thin courses such as 0607 or Further Pure 4PM1 we give a waiting time with a date, disclose when a tutor is based outside the UAE, or say we cannot cover it well. The third answer costs us the booking and is still the right one.

Delivery stated on the page, not at checkout

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; that is a service we offer only in India. Nothing on this page implies a tutor arrives at an Al Raha Beach address.

Official material referenced, never redistributed

Past papers, mark schemes and specifications belong to Cambridge and Pearson. We point to the boards' own sites and your school's access rather than handing out bundles, which protects your child and respects the boards' copyright.

No accreditation claimed that we do not hold

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. Schools and regulators are named on this page as context, not as endorsers.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Raha Beach: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE maths syllabus my child is sitting in Abu Dhabi?+

Three reliable routes. The exam entry statement the school issues names the board and the specification code. Any past paper handed out in class carries the board and code in its header. And the head of mathematics will confirm it in a single email if asked directly. You are looking for a four-character code plus a tier word, such as 0580 Extended, 0607 Extended, 4MA1 Higher or 4MA1 Foundation. That string determines which tutor is useful, which past papers your child should be revising from, and which paper styles the tutoring should drill.

Is Cambridge 0580 the same course as Cambridge International Mathematics 0607?+

No. They share a subject but differ structurally. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended uses Papers 2 and 4, both with a calculator permitted, and has no investigation component. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 requires a graphics calculator, arranges its calculator and non-calculator papers differently, and ends with a compulsory investigation paper. Schools running an IB continuum often prefer 0607 because the graphing and investigation work maps onto Diploma habits. A tutor who has only taught 0580 will not know how to prepare a student for the investigation paper at all.

Does it really matter whether a maths tutor lives near Al Raha Beach?+

Not for the quality of the teaching. It matters only if a tutor has to travel, and travel is what the in-home premium pays for: roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour in this emirate by Bestimate's rate work, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Distance also narrows the pool to whoever happens to be free nearby, which for a thin specification such as 0607 or Further Pure 4PM1 is close to nobody. IB Gram teaches over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so location is not a filter.

My child is on Foundation tier. Can tutoring get them to a grade 7?+

No, and any provider suggesting otherwise is misleading you. Pearson 4MA1 Foundation tier caps at grade 5 and Cambridge 0580 Core caps at grade C. The ceiling is set by the entry, not by the student's performance on the day. What tutoring can do on a capped tier is secure the top available grade, which matters for the Ministry of Education's five-subject equivalency count. If the ceiling itself is the problem, the conversation to have is with the school about the tier, and it has to happen before the entry deadline.

Can the tier my child was entered for be changed?+

Usually yes, until the entry deadline, which sits months before the exam window. What the school needs is evidence rather than ambition: marked work showing your child handling Extended or Higher content at a reasonable standard. The three cases most worth raising are a student whose weakness is arithmetic speed rather than understanding, a student who joined mid-course and was placed cautiously, and a student whose Year 10 results were depressed by something unrelated to maths. A diagnostic session can produce that evidence quickly.

Which IGCSE maths topics cost Abu Dhabi students the most marks?+

Four clusters account for most of it. Algebraic manipulation, especially algebraic fractions and rearranging a formula where the subject appears twice. Proportional reasoning run backwards, particularly reverse percentages. Geometric reasoning, where circle theorems need a named reason and vectors need an argument written in vector notation rather than a diagram. And presentation: premature rounding, missing units, unsimplified answers and working that skips the step the mark scheme required. The fourth cluster is pure habit, teaches in about two hours, and often returns a grade boundary's worth of marks.

Should my child revise from Cambridge papers if they are entered with Pearson?+

No. Past papers are specification-specific and the question styles differ. A 4MA1 Higher candidate working through 0580 Extended papers will meet formats that will not appear on their own paper and will miss the proof-style and vector questions that will. The time is not wasted exactly, but it is spent at a bad exchange rate during the months when time is scarcest. Use the correct board's material through the school's access and the board's own site, and ask any tutor to confirm which board's papers they are setting.

What is the investigation paper on 0607 and how is it prepared for?+

Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 includes a compulsory investigation paper that 0580 does not have. It asks a student to explore a situation, find a pattern, form a conjecture and then justify or generalise it, with a graphics calculator available throughout. The commonest failure is stopping at the pattern. Preparation is a distinct skill rather than extra content: working through past investigations slowly, writing the justification out in full, and learning which calculator output needs to be reproduced on the page. A tutor who has not taught it will not know this.

Does a borderline maths grade affect my child's UAE certificate equivalency?+

It can, because maths is almost always one of the subjects counted. The published clarification for the British track states that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. A marginal maths grade therefore puts one of the five at risk, which is part of why securing the top grade on an achievable tier can be better advice than staying on an ambitious one. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae before acting on it.

Do Abu Dhabi students sit IGCSE maths in November as well as June?+

Yes. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and both are open to UAE candidates; the February and March series is offered to India only and does not apply here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. For most Year 11 students the school enters them for the June or May/June window, with November used as the resit route or to improve a single subject. If a resit is likely, book the tutoring conversation before results arrive rather than after, because the November preparation window is short.

Which schools around Al Raha Beach do the IGCSE students you support attend?+

They come from across the Al Raha and Khalifa City corridor and the island campuses, including Al Yasmina Academy, Yasmina British Academy, Raha International School, GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi, Reach British School, Emirates National School and Repton Abu Dhabi. Those schools describe the neighbourhood's educational context and nothing more. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them. Because lessons are online, which campus a student attends has no bearing on which specification specialist is available to them.

Will a tutor based outside the UAE know my child's school deadlines?+

They will if you tell them, and that is how it should work. School internal deadlines, mock windows and reporting dates are set by your child's school, not by the board, so a tutor learns them from the student's planner in the first session and works to them. What a tutor brings from outside is specification knowledge, which is set by Cambridge or Pearson and is the same in Abu Dhabi as anywhere. Where an IB Gram tutor is based outside the UAE we disclose it before you book, and lessons are timed to Gulf Standard Time.

Is Additional Mathematics 0606 worth taking alongside 0580 Extended?+

For a student heading towards A-Level Mathematics or IB Analysis and Approaches, often yes, because it introduces differentiation, integration, logarithms and binomial expansion a year early and makes the post-16 start much less punishing. For a student still fighting 0580 Extended algebra, no; it adds abstraction to an unstable base. The practical difficulty is supply. Small numbers take 0606 in any Abu Dhabi year group, in-school capacity is thin, and specialist tutors for it are scarce enough that matching can take up to a week.

What does a tutor do about my child relying on the calculator for everything?+

Treat it as the diagnosis rather than a side issue. Heavy calculator dependence passes IGCSE and then collapses in the first term of A-Level or IB Diploma maths, which is why so many students who found IGCSE manageable struggle immediately afterwards. The fix is short, unglamorous and effective: non-calculator work on indices, surds and fraction arithmetic, done in short bursts across several weeks rather than in one block. On Cambridge 0580 the calculator is permitted in both papers, so nothing in the exam forces the habit to change.

How quickly can an IGCSE maths tutor be matched for a Year 11 student?+

For Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher, usually one to two working days, because the specialist pool for those two is the deepest. Core and Foundation tier matches take two to three days, since fewer tutors choose to specialise there. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 takes three to five working days because the investigation paper narrows the field. Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1 can take up to a week. Where nobody suitable is free we give a date, disclose a non-UAE tutor, or say we cannot cover it.

Get the code first, then the tutor

The useful version of this search is not a wider radius around Al Raha Beach but a four-character code and a tier word. Ask the school for the exam entry statement, send us the code and a marked mock paper, and we will propose a tutor who teaches that exact specification rather than a general IGCSE maths tutor in Al Raha Beach. The first lesson is a free trial with no card details collected, and it is the right moment to test whether the tutor can name your child's papers and their weightings without looking them up. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
