IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Shakhbout City

A search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Shakhbout City returns six quite different businesses wearing similar words: a freelance neighbour, an agency, an international marketplace, a tuition centre, an online platform and your own school's support. They differ on price, on who employs the tutor, on who carries the risk when a match fails, and on whether anyone has a permit. This page compares them honestly, including us.

IB & IGCSE in Shakhbout City

Six different businesses, one search result

Shakhbout City is a mainland villa community inside the Khalifa City corridor, built as family housing, with the emirate's densest school belt a few minutes away. It is a good place to find tutoring, which is the problem: a local search returns a long list, and the list conceals the fact that the entries are not comparable with one another at all.

There are six models in that list and they are genuinely different businesses. A freelance tutor who lives nearby and works for themselves. An agency that recruits, screens and allocates tutors and takes a margin. An international marketplace where tutors list themselves and set their own prices. A tuition centre with premises, employed staff and group classes. An online platform like this one. And the support your child's school already provides, which is in your fees and which most families use inconsistently.

They differ on the things that matter after the first lesson rather than before it. Who employs the tutor. Who screens them. What happens when the match is wrong in week three. Whether anybody holds a private tuition permit. Whether the price is per hour, per month or per package. Whether there is anyone to complain to. A search result flattens all of that into a row of similar-looking names.

The most useful single question to ask any of them is: who employs this person, and what happens if it does not work? A freelance tutor is both the service and the complaints department. An agency can replace a tutor and has a reason to. A marketplace will let you rebook and holds no view on quality. A centre will keep your child in the class. Those are four different risk positions at broadly similar prices.

The second most useful question is about the permit, because private tutoring in the UAE is regulated and almost nobody in this market mentions it. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE and is granted free of charge for two years. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. It costs the tutor nothing to hold, which makes not holding one a choice rather than a hardship.

On our own model, stated plainly: IB Gram is an online platform. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE — in-home visits are a service we run in India only — and no tutor will travel to a Shakhbout City address. Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time, matched on the named qualification, with a free trial lesson first. We hold no regulator approval, accreditation or partnership and operate no UAE office.

What follows is the comparison: the six models set against each other, what each one is genuinely good at, what your school already gives you for nothing, how a household with two children on two boards should think about it, the permit position by tutor category, and what each model costs in AED with the source for every figure.

IGCSEAges 14–16 · Years 10–11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Terminal examinations at the end of Year 11, identified by syllabus code: Cambridge 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology; Pearson 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1. Cambridge tiers many subjects as Core and Extended; Pearson tiers Mathematics A as Foundation and Higher, and allows modular unit entry in several subjects.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only — not available to an Abu Dhabi candidate. Pearson runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. Use the board's live official timetable rather than a restated date.

MYPAges 11–16 · Years 7–11

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked out of 8 and converted to a 1 to 7 grade on school-set boundaries, with no timed external papers unless the school enters eAssessment. The Personal Project runs through Year 10 or 11 and carries real weight with no external examination attached.

Several schools in this corridor run MYP alongside or into the Diploma, so a Year 10 child here may be on MYP or on IGCSE and parents sometimes do not know which. A behavioural test works: extended projects marked against lettered criteria means MYP; past papers under timing means IGCSE. The answer decides whether tutoring targets criteria or mark schemes.

DPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher and three Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Every subject carries an Internal Assessment worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of its grade, with school-set internal deadlines across both years.

Abu Dhabi schools enter the May session. We publish no IB exam or results dates — the IB sets and revises them, so confirm every one with your school's IB coordinator. What governs a Diploma term is the school's internal deadline calendar, which is also the thing to give any tutor you are assessing, because a good one will plan against it rather than against a syllabus.

ALEVELAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

A Level, as the other post-16 route

The alternative sixth-form pathway after IGCSE, with three or four subjects examined in depth. Several schools in and around this corridor offer both A Level and the IB Diploma, which makes the Year 11 grade set a genuine fork rather than a formality.

Worth naming here because tutor models differ in how well they handle it. An agency or platform with a wide pool can cover both pathways across a household; a single freelance neighbour usually cannot. If you have one child heading for A Level maths and another for IB Higher Level, that is two specialisms and the provider model determines whether both are available.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

These are the IB courses households in this corridor most often need, with where the marks go. The IGCSE grid follows separately because the assessment model differs.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, calculus and proof, with HL adding a third paper of extended investigations. Marks go to compressed working rather than to the mathematics in most cases.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led problem solving. A correct calculator result with no stated model earns a fraction of the available credit.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, waves, electricity, fields and nuclear physics with HL extensions. Unit prefixes, unstated assumptions and uncertainty treatment in the investigation are the recurring losses.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Stoichiometry, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms. Organic pathways break first, and an investigation with a clean graph still scores poorly if the method does not justify the range.

Biology

HL and SL

Cells, molecular biology, genetics, ecology and physiology. The data-based paper separates grades, and the loss is describing a trend where a mechanism was asked for.

Economics

HL and SL

Micro, macro, the global economy and development. Diagrams carry heavy credit and must be referenced in the prose; the portfolio commentaries need explicit theory applied to real articles.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Literary and non-literary texts, the Individual Oral, the HL Essay and guided analysis. Paper 1 marks go to content description instead of technique analysis.

Business Management

HL and SL

Structure, human resources, finance, marketing and operations. Numerical questions on ratios and investment appraisal are reliable marks students skip entirely.

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the IA suite

Core and all subjects

An exhibition and prescribed-title essay, a 4,000-word independent essay, and a per-subject Internal Assessment. Our role is teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own drafts only.

Group 2 languages

HL, SL and ab initio

Language acquisition across productive and receptive skills. Coverage is genuinely thinner for less-taught languages, and this is one of the places where provider model matters most.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE side, by syllabus code where it matters. The code is the only unambiguous way to brief any provider.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

Number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics. Algebraic manipulation dominates the losses at the higher tiers because every multi-step question routes through it.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Forces and motion, electricity, waves, thermal physics and radioactivity. Circuits break first; the practical component rewards precise method and control-variable description.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, electrolysis and organic chemistry. Moles and ionic equations concentrate the marks; qualitative analysis rewards learned observations.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Cells, transport, nutrition, respiration, inheritance and ecology. Large content, and the losses are command-term failures rather than gaps in knowledge.

English First and Second Language

0500, 0510 and Pearson equivalents

Reading, directed writing and composition, or the four skills for additional-language candidates. A repeatable writing structure moves this grade faster than reading more does.

Economics and Business Studies

Core and Extended

Markets, the macroeconomy, business functions and finance. Diagram accuracy carries marks and extended answers lose credit for listing without evaluating in context.

Computer Science and ICT

Core and Extended

Data representation, hardware, networks, algorithms and programming. Pseudocode and trace tables are reliable marks that students treat as optional.

Additional and further mathematics

Where offered

Advanced algebra, series, identities and calculus foundations overlapping early AS content. A short bridge into sixth-form maths for a secure student.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Shakhbout City household works with us, which is the online-platform model described in the comparison below. All live over video.

One specialist per qualification

Each child matched to a named course and level on their own evening. A household with an IGCSE Year 11 and a Diploma Year 12 gets two tutors rather than one person covering both, which is the thing a single freelance arrangement structurally cannot provide.

  • A named qualification per tutor
  • Separate slots so neither child waits
  • One point of contact for scheduling both

A defined block against a named problem

Four to six sessions on weaknesses taken from a marked script or a criterion-marked draft. It has a start, an end and a testable outcome, which makes it the easiest thing here to judge afterwards and the hardest to drift.

  • Scoped from real marked work
  • A session count agreed before it starts
  • Reviewed against the next school assessment

Core and coursework coaching

For Diploma students: Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, worked against published criteria. The tutor reads the student's own draft and questions it. Nothing is written, chosen or edited to completion for the student.

  • Criterion-aware feedback on the student's own work
  • Research question interrogated before writing starts
  • Timed to your school's internal deadlines

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Shakhbout City

01

What "near me" returns, model by model

A local search in this corridor returns six businesses that look alike and behave differently. Knowing which one you are talking to is more useful than any claim on their page, because it tells you in advance what they can and cannot do.

The freelance local tutor is an individual working for themselves, usually resident in Khalifa City, Shakhbout City or Al Reef. The agency recruits and allocates tutors and takes a margin for doing so. The international marketplace lists tutors who set their own prices and manage their own quality. The tuition centre holds premises and employs staff, selling mostly group classes. The online platform matches and delivers over video. And your school's own support sits inside your fees.

The differences that matter appear in week three rather than week one. If the tutor is ill, who teaches? If the match is wrong, who replaces them and at whose cost? If the subject turns out to be outside their strength, who says so? If you want a second child covered on a different qualification, can they? If something goes wrong, is there anybody other than the tutor to raise it with?

The comparison table below sets the six against each other on exactly those questions. We have included ourselves in it, with the limitations stated rather than omitted, because a comparison that puts the author at the top of every column is not a comparison.

One note on how to read it. No row is the right answer for every household. A freelance neighbour suits a single-child, single-subject case well; a centre suits broad revision at low cost; the school's own provision suits almost everything first. The table is there to let you ask each model the question it is weakest on.

The freelance tutor who lives nearby

  • Strong on relationship, price and local reputation
  • You carry screening, continuity, scope and quality assurance
  • The permit is free, so not holding one is a choice — ask to see it
  • A teacher from your child's own school carries a reported conflict

This is the option a local search surfaces most and the one worth understanding properly, because it is genuinely good at some things. A freelance tutor living in this corridor can be excellent, is often known to other families, builds a long relationship with a child, and charges without a margin on top. For a household with one child, one subject and a tutor who happens to own that exact qualification, it is hard to beat.

What you carry in exchange is everything an organisation would otherwise carry. Screening: you are verifying the qualification claim yourself, and the way to do that is to ask for the syllabus code and the level and judge the answer. Continuity: if they are ill or leave the country, the arrangement stops that week. Scope: one person has one or two specialisms, so a second child on a different board is usually out of reach. And quality assurance: if the sessions drift into homework supervision, the person you would raise it with is the person doing it.

There is also the permit question, which is more relevant to this model than to any other. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years, and tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Because it costs nothing, a freelance tutor who does not hold one has chosen not to, and asking to see it is a reasonable, non-confrontational request before a first paid session.

One Abu Dhabi-specific caution. ADEK's professional-ethics rules have been reported as prohibiting private and charter school staff from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit code of conduct is reported to bar the same. Treat that as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document if it applies to you. A teacher from your child's own school is not the shortcut it appears to be.

03

Agencies and marketplaces: who is accountable

These two are often confused and they sit at opposite ends of the accountability spectrum. An agency recruits, screens and allocates, holds a relationship with both sides, and can replace a tutor when a match fails. A marketplace is a listing: tutors advertise themselves, set their own prices, and the platform's role ends at introduction and payment.

The agency margin buys something real, and the thing to test is whether that something is being delivered. Ask what screening consists of, whether tutors are matched by syllabus code and level or by subject name, what the replacement policy is in writing, and whether anybody reviews whether the sessions are working. An agency that cannot answer those is charging a margin for an introduction, which is a marketplace with an office.

Marketplaces are good for breadth and poor for assurance, and in this market they have a specific local failing: several price in US dollars, a currency no family in Shakhbout City pays a tutor in, and some route UAE parents to contact numbers outside the country without stating where the teaching comes from. Both are discoverable in advance and both tell you that localisation was not a priority.

A related caution applies across these models. Self-asserted ratings are common and some are internally inconsistent — competitor pages in this market display different review counts and scores in different places on the same page, and one shows a rating drawn from twenty reviews alongside a far larger claimed student count elsewhere on the same page. A rating nobody can audit is not evidence. We publish none, which is why there is no star rating anywhere on this page.

04

The tuition centre a few minutes away

  • Good value for content coverage; poor value for a diagnosed weakness
  • Count two car journeys per session and a fixed, unrecoverable timetable
  • A centre with premises needs its own institute permit; ask for the number
  • No individual tutor or online platform can hold that permit

Centres are the model most under-rated by parents who have decided they want one-to-one, and most over-rated on price. The honest position is that a centre is good value for broad content coverage and shared revision, and poor value for a diagnosed individual weakness, which is the opposite of how families usually deploy it.

Price per hour makes a centre look decisively cheaper. Price per minute of attention directed at your child's specific error does not: a group class at a fraction of the one-to-one rate may give a student five to fifteen minutes of individual correction in an hour, with the pace set by the group. If the problem is that your child has not covered a topic, that is fine. If the problem is a habit of compressing working, a group class will not see it.

The costs a centre does not quote are worth counting. Two car journeys per session at the hour this corridor's roads are busiest, which is a parent's time as well as a student's. A fixed timetable, so a clash with a school activity is a paid session lost and not recovered. And a class composition you do not control, which may mix boards and tiers.

There is a regulatory distinction worth knowing, because it is the source of the most dangerous claim in this market. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: in Dubai it requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. A centre holding that permit can say so and show the number. An individual or a platform cannot, and any provider implying regulator approval it does not hold is making a claim you should ask to see evidenced.

05

What your school already gives you for nothing

  • Fees already buy teaching, revision provision, papers and departmental advice
  • Ask about tier, syllabus code, set staffing and the revision programme
  • Collect all Diploma internal deadlines on one sheet in September
  • Paid help gets efficient once you know what it is for

This belongs in the comparison because it is the cheapest entry on the list and the least used. Your fees already buy subject teaching, a revision programme, access to past papers through the exams officer, departmental advice on tier and option choices, and the attention of a teacher who sees your child three or four times a week.

Families in this corridor commonly skip straight past it, partly because asking feels like a complaint. It is not. The questions that get the most useful answers are specific and administrative: which tier is my child provisionally entered for and what would change that decision; which syllabus code and which paper pattern applies for their exam year; does this set have a settled teacher this year; what does the department's own revision provision contain and when does it run; and for a Diploma student, what are the internal deadlines across all six subjects and the core.

That last one is worth a paragraph of its own. A Diploma student carries well over twenty school-set dates across two years, set independently by different departments with no coordination around your child's particular combination. Collecting them on one sheet in September and finding the fortnight where three collide prevents more damage than any amount of tutoring bought in that fortnight. It is free and it takes one meeting.

Only after those questions does paid help become efficient, because by then you know what it is for. A tutor's hour is worth a great deal aimed at a named weakness and very little spent covering ground the school is already covering adequately.

06

Two children, two boards, one household

  • IGCSE paper drilling and IB criterion coaching are different skills
  • One tutor covering both is a generalist in at least one role
  • Models with a pool handle this; a single freelance arrangement does not
  • Stagger the spending, because the two calendars peak at different times

This is where the provider models separate most sharply, and it is common in this corridor because the school belt runs both British and IB pathways within minutes of each other. A household can easily have a Year 11 sitting Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and a Year 12 on IB Chemistry Higher Level with an Internal Assessment due.

Those are different professional skills. Drilling a 0620 paper against a Cambridge mark scheme and reading an IB investigation draft against published criteria are not variations of one job. A single freelance tutor covering both is, by arithmetic, a generalist in at least one of the two roles, and the weaker role is usually the one with coursework attached because it is harder to fake.

The models that handle this well are the ones with a pool: an agency with depth, a marketplace if you are willing to do the selecting, or a platform that matches per qualification. The models that handle it badly are a single freelance arrangement and a centre, where the two children end up in whatever classes exist rather than in the ones they need.

The practical household point is scheduling rather than cost. Two specialists on two evenings is straightforward online and genuinely awkward in person, where it means two separate journeys or one compromise. And the two children's calendars peak at different times — IGCSE pressure concentrates in Year 11, Diploma internal deadlines arrive steadily across two years — so the budget should stagger rather than double.

07

Is the tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Almost nobody in this market answers this, so here it is. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligibility is broader than parents assume. Applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. So a university student tutoring in Khalifa City is expressly eligible, which also means they have no excuse for not holding one.

The consequence of not holding one is stated and the amount is not. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, and a figure circulating in this market could not be verified, so any specific amount quoted to you should be treated with suspicion. This page quotes none.

The useful parental action is simple and polite: ask to see the permit before the first paid session. It is free to hold, quick to obtain and the person either has it or does not. For a centre, ask instead for the institute permit number and check it with the regulator. And be clear that naming a regulator is not the same as being approved by one — IB Gram holds no ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, Ministry, MoHRE, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, and operates no office or centre in the UAE.

08

What a tutor may and may not do, whichever model you choose

  • Allowed: teaching, explaining criteria, questioning a draft, teaching citation
  • Not allowed: writing, completing, or modelling assessed work
  • Papers and mark schemes are linked to their source, never redistributed
  • No unevidenced examiner claims and no statistics without n, date and method

This boundary is set by the examination boards rather than by any provider, so it applies identically to a freelance neighbour, an agency, a centre and us. A tutor may teach the content a task rests on, explain what each criterion or mark scheme rewards, question a method until the student finds its weakness, read a draft the student wrote and name which criterion it undersells, teach referencing and honest method description, and run timed practice on a different task.

A tutor may not write any part of assessed work, draft a paragraph for the student to adapt, edit a draft to completion, rewrite sentences so the final text is partly theirs, generate a research question and hand it over, supply data the student did not gather, or provide a worked model of the live task. There is an operator in this market selling completed Internal Assessments at a published price; that is an academic-integrity breach, it is a malpractice trigger for the student rather than the seller, and it is not a service we offer at any fee.

There is a copyright boundary too, worth using as a test when comparing providers. Board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson or the IB. We reference them and link the official source rather than redistributing them. A provider handing you a folder of scans is not giving you a bonus; they are distributing somebody else's copyrighted material, which also tells you how they treat rules generally.

Two more comparison tests. We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners where current examiner status cannot be evidenced, and we do not use examiner status to imply access to marking or boundaries. And we publish no statistic without a sample size, a date and a method, which is why there are no satisfaction percentages or median-score claims anywhere on this page.

What each model costs, with the source for every figure

Published market rates for this emirate, read in October 2026. Budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An in-home one-to-one visit at AED 180 to 500, per Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors up to 500. A named IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium examiner-led provision at BartyED reaching AED 650.

Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions give AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Package rates seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Three observations about that list. Three of the competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and one asks the price question in its own frequently-asked-questions block and then declines to answer it. Two of the pages that do publish quote in US dollars. And no page in the entire researched set cites a source for a single AED figure, which is why every figure above carries one.

IB Gram publishes no hourly price on this page. There is a free trial lesson and a consultation, and the figure follows once the qualification, level and frequency are known. We also disclose coverage limits before payment and state when a tutor is not UAE-based, which no competitor researched for this market does.

Where we tutor

Where the providers around Shakhbout City actually are

The provider models cluster differently across the corridor. Because our lessons are online, where you live changes the slot rather than which specialist is available.

Shakhbout City

Mainland villa community in the Khalifa City corridor. Freelance tutors advertise here heavily because the housing is family housing and the schools are minutes away, which makes it attractive territory.

Khalifa City

Immediately adjacent, with the emirate's densest school cluster and the largest resident tutor population in the corridor. Where most agency tutors serving Shakhbout City actually live.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

The dense mainland grid, with the broadest curriculum mix in the emirate and the highest concentration of tuition centres serving this corridor.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community with international schools adjacent, including IB provision. Comparable housing to Shakhbout City and the same freelance supply.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartments and townhouses on the airport road, with the Al Raha schools nearby. Agencies list it alongside Shakhbout City routinely.

Al Reef

Affordable villas and apartments near the airport, popular with school staff, and therefore a real source of freelance tutors across this corridor.

Masdar City

The research district by the airport with no school inside it. Its families use the same providers, which tightens slot availability in the second term.

Yas Island

Newer British-curriculum schools north of the airport road. A chosen commute from this corridor, and far enough that in-home models price the journey heavily.

Saadiyat Island

Cultural district with a small number of well-known international schools. Agencies there and here overlap less, so a cross-city in-home arrangement is the least efficient option available.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Shakhbout City

Shakhbout City, Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

One continuous school belt with British, IB, Indian and Arab curriculum provision. The density is why every provider model is represented here, and why a local search returns so many non-comparable options.

The islands and the wider city

Where families in this corridor enrol for a specific programme. Relevant to the comparison because an in-home model priced for this corridor becomes considerably more expensive when the school, and therefore the timing, sits across the city.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school first, and write down the answers

Qualification name, syllabus code, tier, paper pattern for your child's exam year, and for a Diploma student every internal deadline. Free, one meeting, and it determines whether you need a tutor at all.

  2. 02

Identify which model you are talking to

Freelance, agency, marketplace, centre or platform. Then ask the model-specific question: who employs the tutor, who screens them, and what happens in week three if the match is wrong.

  3. 03

    Ask to see the permit

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years, so a tutor either holds one or has chosen not to. For a centre, ask for the institute permit number and check it with the regulator.

  4. 04

Send marked work and take a free trial

A genuine hour on your child's own script or draft, not a sales call. At the end, ask the tutor to name what is costing marks. We say plainly before you pay if coverage for that subject is thin.

  5. 05

Agree a block and a review point

A defined session count, a slot in Gulf Standard Time, and a named assessment to review against. Sessions shift post-Iftar during Ramadan and pause across school exam weeks without the slot being reassigned.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A comparison that includes us

The table on this page puts six models side by side with our own limitations stated — no home visits, no regulator approval, no UAE office, no published hourly rate. A comparison that flatters its author is not a comparison.

Accountability named, not implied

We match the tutor, and if it is not working we change them. That is a different position from a freelance arrangement where the service and the complaints department are the same person, and worth knowing before week three.

Every AED figure carries its source

No page in the researched competitor set cites a source for a single AED figure. Every band here names the provider or Bestimate's 2026 table and the date it was read.

Coverage limits and delivery location disclosed

Thin subjects are named before payment, and we state when a tutor is not UAE-based rather than routing you through a local-looking contact and letting you find out in week three.

No ratings, no statistics, no claimed approvals

We publish no star ratings, no satisfaction percentages and no success figures, because we could not evidence them with a sample size, a date and a method. We claim no regulator approval of any kind.

The free options named first

Your school's teaching, revision provision, past papers and departmental advice are already paid for. We say so on a page intended to sell tutoring, because paid help only becomes efficient once those are used.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Shakhbout City: your questions answered

What kinds of tutoring providers will a Shakhbout City search actually return?+

Six, wearing similar words. A freelance tutor working for themselves, usually resident in this corridor. An agency that recruits, screens and allocates for a margin. An international marketplace where tutors list themselves. A tuition centre with premises and employed staff. An online platform. And your own school's support, which sits inside your fees. They differ on who employs the tutor, who screens them, what happens when a match fails, and whether anyone holds a private tuition permit — none of which a search result shows.

What is the single best question to ask any tutoring provider here?+

Who employs this person, and what happens if it does not work? A freelance tutor is both the service and the complaints department. An agency can replace a tutor and has a commercial reason to. A marketplace will let you rebook and holds no view on quality. A centre will keep your child in the class. Those are four materially different risk positions at broadly similar prices, and the answer tells you more about what you are buying than any claim on the provider's page does.

Is a freelance tutor who lives nearby a good option?+

Often yes, for a household with one child, one subject, and a tutor who genuinely owns that qualification. They can be excellent, they are usually known to other families, and there is no agency margin. What you take on is screening, continuity, scope and quality assurance: you verify the qualification claim yourself, the arrangement stops if they are ill or leave, a second child on a different board is usually out of reach, and if the sessions drift the person you would raise it with is the person doing it.

How do I verify that a local tutor really knows my child's qualification?+

Ask for the syllabus code and the level rather than the subject, then judge the reply. Cambridge codes are four digits such as 0580 or 0620; Pearson codes look like 4MA1 or 4CH1; IB courses come back as a subject plus Higher or Standard Level. A tutor who asks which tier applies and which paper pattern governs your child's exam year knows the qualification. One who treats IGCSE as a single thing, or offers to cover two children on two boards, has answered a different question.

What is the difference between a tutoring agency and a marketplace?+

Accountability. An agency recruits, screens and allocates, holds a relationship with both sides and can replace a tutor when a match fails — and the margin should be buying that. A marketplace is a listing: tutors advertise themselves, set their own prices and manage their own quality, and the platform's role ends at introduction and payment. Test an agency by asking what screening involves, whether matching is by syllabus code or subject name, and whether the replacement policy exists in writing.

Should I trust the star ratings on tutoring websites?+

Treat an unauditable rating as decoration rather than evidence. Competitor pages researched for this market display different review counts and scores in different places on the same page, and one shows a rating drawn from twenty reviews alongside a far larger claimed student count elsewhere on the page. Self-asserted review markup is also against structured-data policy and carries a manual-action risk for the site. We publish no star rating anywhere, which is why you will not find one on this page to compare against theirs.

Is a tuition centre near Shakhbout City better value than one-to-one?+

Cheaper per hour, often not per useful minute, and good at the opposite thing from what families use it for. A group class may give your child five to fifteen minutes of individual correction in an hour with the pace set by the group — fine for content coverage, useless for a habit of compressing working. Count the unquoted costs too: two car journeys per session at the busiest hour, and a fixed timetable where a clash with a school activity is a paid session lost and not recovered.

Can a tuition centre be approved by a regulator when a tutor cannot?+

Yes, and this is the source of the most misleading claim in this market. An operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual: in Dubai it requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, up to six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. A centre holding one can show the number. An individual tutor or an online platform cannot hold it, so any such provider implying regulator approval is making a claim worth challenging.

Do private tutors around Shakhbout City need a permit, and does it cost them?+

Yes, and no. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE's own service page listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time via its smart app, website or e-services system. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it is free, not holding one is a choice rather than a hardship.

What happens to a tutor working without a permit?+

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, and a figure circulating in this market could not be verified, so treat any specific amount quoted at you with suspicion — including amounts quoted as reassurance. The practical point for a parent is that the permit is free and quick to obtain, so asking to see it before the first paid session is a reasonable request rather than an accusation.

We have one child on IGCSE and one on the IB Diploma. Which model handles that?+

One with a pool. Drilling a Cambridge 0620 paper against a mark scheme and reading an IB investigation draft against published criteria are different professional skills, so a single freelance tutor covering both is a generalist in at least one role — usually the one with coursework attached. An agency with depth, a marketplace if you will do the selecting, or a platform matching per qualification can staff both. A centre will place both children in whatever classes exist rather than the ones they need.

What does our school already provide that we are not using?+

Subject teaching, a revision programme, past papers through the exams officer, departmental advice on tier and options, and a teacher who sees your child several times a week. Ask specific, administrative questions: which tier is my child provisionally entered for and what would change it, which syllabus code and paper pattern applies for their exam year, does this set have a settled teacher, and for a Diploma student every internal deadline across six subjects and the core. All free, and more consequential than most tutoring.

How much does each provider model cost in AED around here?+

Published figures read in October 2026: budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik from 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300, Unitors quoting IGCSE from 150 and IB from 200. In-home visits at AED 180 to 500, per Bestimate's 2026 table at 180 to 350 with independent tutors to 500. Named specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at 270. Premium examiner-led at BartyED reaching 650.

Does IB Gram send anyone to a Shakhbout City address?+

No. We are an online platform and we run no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time, with each child matched to a named qualification and level. We hold no regulator approval, accreditation or partnership, operate no UAE office or centre, publish no star ratings or success statistics, and state coverage limits and whether a tutor is UAE-based before you pay for anything.

What should we ask before paying any provider in this corridor?+

Five things. Who employs the tutor and what happens if the match fails. Whether matching is by syllabus code and level or by subject name. Whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition permit, or for a centre the institute permit number. What they will refuse to do on assessed coursework — a clear refusal is a good sign. And how you will both know in six weeks whether it is working, which should be a named external assessment rather than an impression.
