IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Raha Beach

A search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Raha Beach returns whoever has paid to appear nearby, not whoever charges fairly. This page prices the five ways tuition is actually sold in Abu Dhabi, lists the extras that surprise parents after the first invoice, and shows what the distance premium adds. IB Gram teaches both boards one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial and no card details.

  • Five provider models priced side by side, each AED figure attributed
  • The extras checklist: cancellation, minimum blocks, materials, surcharges
  • IB and IGCSE siblings can share one schedule and one point of contact
  • Lessons are online over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address

What a 'near me' search actually returns, and what it costs

Typing a tutor search with 'near me' on the end tells a search engine to prioritise proximity, and proximity is a weak proxy for everything a parent in Al Raha Beach actually cares about. The results that come back are a mixture of agencies with a local landing page, marketplaces listing anyone within a radius, blog posts written to rank, and a handful of independent tutors with good local reputations. The one thing the list does not do is sort by value.

Price is the clearest illustration. The published spread in this market runs from AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 at the premium end, which is a fourteen-fold range for something described by the same two words. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from the equivalent of AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED quotes AED 650. Bestimate's rate work puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500.

Those figures are not five providers charging differently for the same thing. They are five business models with different cost bases, and a parent who understands the models can read a quote in about thirty seconds. A university student tutoring part-time under a private tuition permit has no overheads. An agency has a matching team and a replacement policy. A tuition centre has premises, a licence and staff. A home tutor has a car and an hour of unpaid driving. The rate reflects the model, not the teaching.

The second thing a 'near me' search hides is the extras. The hourly figure is rarely the whole invoice. Minimum blocks, cancellation windows shorter than a school's own notice period, charges for a written report, a travel surcharge to communities on the airport side of Abu Dhabi, and material fees all appear after the decision has been made. There is also the question of whether a quoted price includes VAT, which a provider should answer in writing for their own prices and which this page does not attempt to settle as a general rule.

So the structure of this page is a pricing audit. Five models priced with sources, the extras checklist, what the travel premium buys in this particular corridor, and how a household running one IB and one IGCSE student can share a budget instead of running two. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to any school, authority or board named here, and we hold no accreditation from any of them. Tuition for Al Raha Beach families is delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, which is a service we run only in India.

At a glance

  • Published hourly rates in this market span AED 45 to 650, a fourteen-fold range
  • The rate reflects the provider's cost base, not the quality of the teaching
  • Ask about minimum blocks, cancellation windows and report charges before the first session
  • A travel surcharge to the airport-side communities is common and often unmentioned
  • Two children on two boards can share one schedule, one contact and one review cycle
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A household in Al Raha Beach often has children on two different systems at once. The programmes below set out what each stage demands, so that a single family budget can be allocated sensibly rather than split down the middle.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject rather than by examination, with an eAssessment option at the end of MYP 5 and the Personal Project as a major piece of individual work. Parents find MYP reports hard to read because a criterion level is not a percentage, and that opacity is the commonest reason a family buys tuition without a clear target.

The Al Raha corridor has established MYP provision, so this is the stage at which many Al Raha Beach families first consider paid support. The cheapest effective spend here is a single diagnostic session to translate the criterion levels into named skills, rather than an open-ended weekly booking.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE

Two years, assessed by examination, with Cambridge and Pearson specifications both widely entered in Abu Dhabi. Tiering sets a grade ceiling: Cambridge Core offers grades C to G and Extended A* to E, while Pearson Foundation caps at 5 and Higher runs 9 to 4 with a safety-net 3. Subject choice at the start of Year 10 is effectively a two-year commitment.

IGCSE is the highest-volume tutoring demand in this corridor simply because the cohort is large. It is also where rate shopping is most worthwhile, because specialist supply for mainstream subjects is deep enough that a family does not need to pay the top of the band to get a competent teacher.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three Higher Levels and three Standard Levels, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internal assessment. The workload is front-loaded into coursework deadlines that cluster in the middle of DP2, which is also when exam preparation needs to start.

Diploma tuition is where the premium tiers of this market earn their rate, because Higher Level component work genuinely requires subject-level specialism. It is also where a household should expect to spend more per hour on fewer hours, rather than fewer dirhams on more.

A-LevelAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A-Level and post-IGCSE routes

The alternative post-16 route from IGCSE, taken by three or four subjects in depth with AS and A2 structures depending on the board. The transition from IGCSE is steeper than most students expect, particularly in mathematics and the sciences, because algebraic fluency is assumed from the first lesson rather than taught.

Because both A-Level and Diploma provision exist within a short drive of Al Raha Beach, Year 11 families here face a genuine fork. A couple of hours with a tutor who has taught both routes is a cheaper way to decide than a term of remediation after choosing wrongly.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Both boards in one grid, because that is how a family budget works. Each entry names the component where marks are most often lost, which is the information a parent needs to judge whether a quoted rate is buying anything.

IB Mathematics (AA and AI)

HL and SL

Four Diploma routes with different content and different papers. Higher Level adds a Paper 3 worth 20% built from extended problem-solving questions, and the Exploration is 20% at both levels. Specialist supply is deepest in Analysis and Approaches.

IGCSE Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 and 0607, Pearson 4MA1

Three specifications in common Abu Dhabi use, with different paper structures and calculator rules. The code on the exam entry statement decides which tutor is useful; a general IGCSE maths label does not.

IB Physics

HL and SL

Heavily mathematical, with uncertainty treatment and graph interpretation carrying marks throughout. The internal assessment rewards a well-controlled investigation rather than an ambitious one, and students lose marks on the evaluation section most often.

IGCSE Physics

Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1

Formula rearrangement, standard form and gradient reading account for a large share of lost marks. A maths-literate tutor can move this grade without teaching new physics content, which matters when a household is buying hours for two children.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, equilibrium and energetics carry the difficulty, and the internal assessment needs a defensible treatment of uncertainty. Higher Level adds depth rather than breadth, which changes what revision looks like in the final term.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations, empirical formulae, percentage yield and the qualitative analysis tables. The tables are learnable in a few hours and are routinely left to the last fortnight, which is a predictable and avoidable loss.

IB English A and English B

HL and SL

English A assesses response to literature through individual oral and written tasks; English B assesses language acquisition across four skills. Students confuse the two courses' demands, and the individual oral is the component most often under-rehearsed.

IGCSE English

First Language and as a Second Language

Directed writing and the composition task carry the heaviest weighting, and the reading questions reward precise quotation over general comment. Second Language candidates lose marks on the summary task more than on anything else.

IB Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy, labelling and the quantitative questions at Higher Level separate grades. Both subjects carry an internal assessment that must be the student's own work, with a tutor's role limited to questioning and feedback.

IGCSE Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Data response and calculation questions on elasticity, break-even and index numbers. Candidates who comment on a table in context rather than restating its figures pick up the marks most frequently left behind.

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the Personal Project

DP and MYP core

All three must be the student's own work. A tutor may discuss a research question, explain a criterion and respond to a draft with questions. Writing, completing or supplying text is malpractice under IB rules and carries consequences for the student.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum

Required in UAE private schools regardless of the international curriculum, with the language of instruction and class organisation set by published regulatory guidance rather than by the school's own preference.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a household can buy tuition across two boards without paying twice for the same overheads. The choice depends on how many children are involved and how different their needs are.

One schedule, two children, two boards

Consecutive one-to-one slots on the same evening, with separate tutors matched to each child's board and level but a single point of contact and a single review cycle. Nothing is shared in the lesson itself, which protects the one-to-one value, but the administration collapses into one conversation.

  • Back-to-back slots mean one evening disrupted rather than two
  • One review conversation covering both children each term
  • Each child keeps a specialist matched to their own specification

Targeted blocks instead of a standing retainer

Hours bought against a named component with an end date, rather than an open weekly booking. A Diploma internal assessment clinic, an IGCSE topic repair block, or a run of timed papers before a series. The total spend is usually lower and the effect is easier to see, because there is something specific to check at the end.

  • Defined start, defined end, defined thing being fixed
  • Easier to compare against a quote from another provider
  • Avoids the retainer that outlives the problem it was bought for

Sibling or pair sessions on shared content

Two students on the same specification and tier working together at a lower per-student rate. This works for shared revision on common content and does not work for personal gaps, which are by definition different. Worth using deliberately for exam technique and badly suited to anything diagnostic.

  • Lower cost per student, typically a substantial discount on one-to-one
  • Suits timed-paper practice and mark-scheme work
  • Not appropriate where the two students' weaknesses differ

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Raha Beach

01

The five ways tuition is sold in Abu Dhabi, priced

Comparing an agency quote with a freelance quote is comparing two different products, and most pages in this market avoid saying so because the comparison makes their own model look expensive. The table below compares the models rather than the brands, with each rate attributed to the provider or rate study that published it, read in October 2026.

What varies between the models is not teaching quality but what happens around the teaching. A freelance tutor found through a community group is the cheapest route and carries the most risk: no replacement if the match is wrong, no record if they stop answering, and no third party to raise a problem with. An agency costs more and exists largely to solve those three problems. Whether that is worth the difference depends on how much a failed match would cost your child in a given term.

Tuition centres sell something different again. A centre with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a licence issued to training institutes rather than to individuals, and the overhead shows in the price. A centre class also means a fixed slot, a set curriculum and a drive, and for some families the structure and the peer pressure are the point rather than the cost.

Platforms sit between the two. The honest description of IB Gram's own model is a matching platform: we hold no premises in the UAE, lessons are one-to-one over live video, and the value is in the matching, the specialist pool and the disclosure. IB Gram does not operate an office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE, and we do not send tutors to UAE homes.

The extras that catch Al Raha Beach parents off guard

  • Is there a minimum block, and how many hours is it?
  • What is the cancellation window, and what is charged inside it?
  • Is a written progress report included or extra?
  • Is there a travel surcharge for Al Raha Beach or Al Reef?
  • Are materials, platform licences or mock packs charged separately?
  • Is the quoted AED figure inclusive or exclusive of VAT, in writing?

The hourly rate is the number a family compares and the invoice is the number they pay. The gap between them is made of six things, and all six are answerable in one message before any money moves. Asking costs nothing and routinely changes which provider looks cheapest.

The first is the minimum block. Some providers quote per hour and sell only in packages of eight or twelve, which converts a trial into a commitment. The second is the cancellation window. A school gives a term's notice of a change; a tutor may require twenty-four hours and charge in full inside it, which collides awkwardly with a child who is genuinely ill. The third is report charges: a written summary of progress is sometimes an extra line rather than part of the service.

The fourth is the travel surcharge, which is specific to communities like Al Raha Beach and Al Reef on the airport side of Abu Dhabi. It may be quoted as a flat addition or folded silently into a higher hourly rate for the area. The fifth is materials. Printed workbooks, platform licences and mock paper packs are sometimes charged separately, and a provider offering a bundle of official past papers as a download is also doing something the boards' copyright does not permit.

The sixth is VAT. Whether a given tuition service is subject to UAE VAT depends on the provider's own circumstances, and this page does not attempt to state the treatment as a general rule. What a parent should do is ask the provider in writing whether their quoted AED figure is inclusive or exclusive, and ask for the tax registration number if they are charging it. A provider who cannot answer that clearly has told you something useful.

03

What the distance premium actually buys in this corridor

Break the in-home premium into its parts and it becomes easy to judge. Market in-home rates in Abu Dhabi run roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate's rate work, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. On the same tier of teacher, the difference is the journey. For a tutor coming to Al Raha Beach from the city or from Khalifa City, that journey is twenty to forty-five minutes each way in the late afternoon, plus community access.

What the premium buys is a person in the room. For a younger student, or one who disengages the moment a screen is involved, that is worth paying for and should be said plainly. Supervision is easier. Written work on paper is easier to see. A tutor can notice a student's posture change when a topic appears.

What the premium does not buy is choice, and this is where the Al Raha Beach geography bites. The pool shrinks to people willing to make that drive at that hour. For a mainstream IGCSE subject the pool is still adequate. For Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 with its investigation paper, Further Pure Mathematics, or a Diploma language B at Higher Level, it shrinks to a handful or to nobody, and a family ends up choosing availability over suitability without quite realising they have done it.

The decision is therefore different for different children in the same household. A Year 7 student who needs supervision as much as teaching may genuinely be better served by a person in the room. A Diploma student working on a Paper 3 question needs the best specialist available and a whiteboard they can rewatch. IB Gram serves UAE families online for both cases and does not run home visits in the UAE, so for the first case we say what the honest trade-off is rather than pretending it does not exist.

04

Running one IB and one IGCSE student on a single budget

Households in this corridor frequently have a Diploma student and a Year 10 or 11 candidate at the same time, and the instinct is to split the tutoring budget evenly. That is almost always the wrong allocation, because the two stages have very different marginal returns on an hour of tuition.

The Diploma student's hours are worth more per hour and should be fewer. Higher Level component work, Paper 3, and internal assessment feedback genuinely require subject-level specialism, and the top of the market band is justified for them. But the Diploma student also has school support, a coordinator, and a structured deadline calendar, so a targeted block beats a standing weekly slot.

The IGCSE student's hours are cheaper and often need to be more numerous, because the common losses are habit-shaped rather than concept-shaped: rounding, units, missing method steps, unattempted final pages. Those take repetition rather than brilliance to fix, and a competent mid-tier tutor will do it as well as a premium one. Spending the premium rate here is a waste of the household's money.

The practical structure that works is consecutive slots on one evening, separate specialists, one point of contact, and one termly review covering both children. The administration cost collapses, the disruption is confined to a single evening, and each child keeps a tutor matched to their actual specification. The table sets out a worked allocation for a two-child household at market rates, and the figures are indicative of the market rather than an IB Gram price list.

Who regulates the schools, and why a parent should know

Parents in Abu Dhabi deal with ADEK and often do not realise that the authority differs by emirate, which matters the moment a family moves within the UAE or compares a school across emirates. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate.

Sharjah's private education is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah's by its Department of Knowledge. The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Those five bodies are the complete regulator map for UAE private schools, and it is worth knowing that the Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so their remit extends beyond inspection.

None of these authorities regulates private tutoring rates, which is the single clearest explanation for why school fees have a controlled structure and tutoring prices span a fourteen-fold range. What does govern individual tutors is the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit regime, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, under which the private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai would need a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific licence with initial approval, a six-month completion window and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a different thing from an individual's tutor permit, and neither should ever be presented as an endorsement of a platform.

What to send when you ask three providers for a quote

Most quotes a family receives are vague because the request was vague. A message that says a Year 10 student needs help with maths produces a price for an hour of generic tuition, and the quotes cannot be compared because nobody is pricing the same thing. Six lines of information changes that entirely.

Send the board and the specification code with tier: Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Higher, IB Analysis and Approaches Standard Level. Send the year group and the school's own assessment calendar. Send the most recent marked assessment, which is worth more than any description of the problem because the losses are visible on it. Name the component that is going wrong rather than the subject.

Then ask the six extras questions in the same message: minimum block, cancellation window, whether a written report is included, whether a travel surcharge applies to Al Raha Beach, whether materials are charged separately, and whether the quoted figure includes VAT. Ask what happens if the match is wrong in week three. Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit and under which category.

The answers sort the market faster than any amount of browsing. A provider who prices a named component, answers the extras in writing, and discloses where the tutor is based has given you a comparable quote. A provider who returns an hourly rate and a paragraph about confidence has not, and the gap between those two responses is a better predictor of the next thirty hours than any rate on this page.

07

Ramadan, holidays and when the tutoring year actually works

Scheduling is a cost too, because a slot that keeps getting missed is money spent on nothing. The UAE academic year has a distinctive rhythm, and a family planning a term's tuition should plan around it rather than discover it.

Ramadan shortens the school day across the UAE and shifts the shape of an evening completely. Study after Iftar works well for many families and badly for others, and the only sensible approach is to agree the Ramadan arrangement in advance rather than to cancel week by week. Some students do their best concentrated work in the quiet late evening of that month; others need the block moved out of it altogether. Both are legitimate and both need deciding before it starts.

The long summer break is the other structural feature, and it is the most under-used tuition window in this market. Transition work belongs here: the non-calculator fluency block between IGCSE and post-16 maths, the MYP to Diploma algebra bridge, the Extended Essay research question settled before DP2 starts. Buying those hours in the summer costs the same as buying them in October and is worth considerably more, because nothing else is competing for the student's attention.

Within a term, the pattern worth avoiding is the fortnight before a school's own internal deadline, when a student is least able to absorb new teaching and most in need of time. Plan intensive blocks either side of those deadlines. And where a family travels between Abu Dhabi and abroad during holidays, online delivery on a stated time zone means the schedule can follow them rather than pause, which is a practical advantage over any visiting arrangement.

How IB Gram answers the 'near me' question

The honest answer to a 'near me' search is that we are not near you, and that this is deliberate rather than a limitation we are apologising for. IB Gram matches Al Raha Beach families with tutors who teach their child's exact course, and delivers lessons one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India.

What replaces proximity is specificity. You tell us the board, the course, the level and the component. We propose a tutor who teaches that, and say where they are based before you book rather than after. The first lesson is a free trial with no card details collected, which is the point at which you can test whether the tutor can name your child's papers and their weightings without looking them up.

Matching takes a couple of working days for mainstream IGCSE subjects and for Diploma courses with deep supply. It takes longer for thin ones, and where nobody suitable is free we give one of three answers: a waiting date, a disclosed tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus on the same clock, or an admission that we cannot cover it well. The third answer loses the booking, which is why so few pages in this market contain it.

On the two things this page has been about, the position is simple. Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate study that published it, with the month it was read, and none of them is an IB Gram price list. And every extra on the checklist is a question we will answer in writing before you commit, because a quote a parent cannot compare is not really a quote.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Raha Beach

Distance is the variable this page is interrogating, so these notes concentrate on what travel actually costs between Al Raha Beach and the communities around it. Lessons are delivered online, so none of it constrains who can teach your child.

Al Raha Beach

Al Zeina, Al Muneera and the Channel buildings. Visiting tutors frequently add a surcharge for the airport-side run, and building access adds unpredictable minutes that a parent pays for in the hourly rate.

Al Raha Gardens

A short hop inland, but a different access profile: gated villa community with its own entry procedure. The drive is five minutes and the gate can be ten, which is the kind of detail that never appears in a quote.

Khalifa City

The nearest deep school cluster and the place most Al Raha Beach secondary students travel to. A tutor working across both areas spends real time on the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan corridor between afternoon bookings.

Al Reef

Further out towards the airport and commonly carrying the highest travel surcharge of the communities on this side. Families here see the clearest price difference between an online and a visiting tutor.

Yas Island

A bridge crossing from the mainland and a long return leg for students who school inland. Visiting tutors covering both Yas and Al Raha Beach in one evening effectively charge two households for one journey.

Saadiyat Island

High-fee campuses and a second bridge. The travel economics here are the worst in the emirate for in-home tuition and the reason island families are the quickest to move to online delivery.

Al Reem Island

Tower blocks with lift waits and visitor registration. The unpredictability, rather than the distance, is what pushes a visiting tutor's effective hourly cost up in this community.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Large mainland sectors with a substantial IGCSE cohort. Local tutor supply is better here than on the islands, which makes it the one nearby community where a proximity search returns something useful.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the component, the code and the tier

Board, specification code where there is one, level and the thing actually going wrong. A request that says Cambridge 0580 Extended, Paper 4 structured questions, mock grade 5, gets a comparable quote. A request that says help with maths does not.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked assessment

One marked mock or internal assessment is worth more than a page of description, because the losses are visible on it. It also lets a tutor say in the trial lesson which two topics to attack first and why those two, which is the test of whether they know the specification.

  3. 03

Ask the six extras questions in writing

Minimum block, cancellation window, report charges, travel surcharge, materials, VAT position. Ask all six of every provider you approach, including us. The answers reorder the shortlist more often than the hourly rates do.

  4. 04

Use the free trial as an audition

One lesson at no charge, no card details collected. Count how much your child speaks. Ask the tutor afterwards which two topics they would start with. A tutor who answers in named topics is worth their rate; one who answers in adjectives is not.

  5. 05

Book a block with an end date, then review

Hours bought against a named component with a defined finish, rather than an open weekly slot. At the end, check whether the named problem closed. If it did, the hours move or stop. That single discipline is what stops a tutoring budget drifting upwards unexamined.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every rate on this page carries its source

Each AED figure is attributed to the competitor page or rate study it came from, with the month it was read. No ranking page in this market cites a source for a single rate, and an unsourced number is not something a parent can act on.

The extras are answered before you commit

Minimum blocks, cancellation windows, report charges, surcharges, materials and the VAT position are the gap between a quoted rate and an invoice. We answer them in writing on request rather than after the first month.

Both boards from one point of contact

A household running a Diploma student and an IGCSE candidate gets a specialist matched to each and one conversation covering both, with consecutive slots so a single evening is disrupted rather than two.

Delivery disclosed, including where the tutor is

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE and has no office, centre or branch here. Where a tutor is based outside the emirate we say so before you book.

A clear line on assessed work

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, complete or supply any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project. That boundary protects the student's qualification.

No regulator or board status claimed

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Those bodies appear on this page because parents need to know what they do, not as endorsers.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Raha Beach: your questions answered

Why do IB and IGCSE tutor rates in Abu Dhabi vary from AED 45 to AED 650 an hour?+

Because the figure reflects a business model rather than a level of skill. A university student tutoring under a private tuition permit carries no overheads and advertises from the low end; EdFlik quotes from AED 45 to 65. An agency funds matching, vetting and a replacement policy, which is where Unitors' AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB sits. A visiting tutor prices in a car and an unpaid hour of driving, which Bestimate puts at AED 180 to 350. A premium brand charges for reputation; BartyED quotes AED 650. Read the model, then the rate.

What extra charges should I ask about before booking a tutor in Al Raha Beach?+

Six, and all are answerable in one message. The minimum block, because some providers quote hourly and sell only in eights or twelves. The cancellation window and what is charged inside it. Whether a written progress report is included or extra. Whether a travel surcharge applies to Al Raha Beach or Al Reef, which is common on the airport side. Whether materials, platform licences or mock packs are billed separately. And whether the quoted AED figure includes VAT, which should be confirmed in writing by the provider for their own prices.

Is a cheaper tutor actually worse for my child?+

Not automatically, and the question is better asked per task. Habit-shaped losses, which is most of what costs IGCSE candidates marks, respond to repetition rather than to brilliance: rounding, missing units, unattempted final pages, working that skips the step the mark scheme needed. A competent mid-tier tutor fixes those as well as a premium one. Where the premium genuinely buys something is Diploma Higher Level component work, internal assessment criteria and thin specifications, because those need subject-level depth that the budget tier generally does not have.

Does IB Gram have an office or centre in Abu Dhabi I can visit?+

No. IB Gram has no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE, and we would rather state that than let a footer address imply otherwise. Tuition for UAE families is delivered as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. We also do not send tutors to UAE addresses; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. If a provider competing for this search shows a UAE address, it is worth checking whether they actually occupy it, because at least one ranking page shows a Dubai footer on an Abu Dhabi page.

How should I split a tutoring budget between a Diploma child and an IGCSE child?+

Not evenly. The Diploma student's hours should be fewer and more expensive, because Higher Level component work, Paper 3 and internal assessment feedback need real subject depth, and the school already provides structure around them. The IGCSE student's hours should be cheaper and more numerous, because the common losses are habits that respond to repetition. A worked allocation at market rates might be ten specialist hours plus a four-hour assessment clinic for the Diploma student, and fourteen mid-tier hours split between topic repair and timed papers for the IGCSE candidate.

Can two children in the same household share a tutor to save money?+

Only where the content is genuinely shared. Two students on the same specification and tier can work together productively on timed paper practice and mark-scheme technique, and the per-student rate is substantially lower. It does not work for diagnostic or gap-closing work, because two students' gaps are by definition different and one of them ends up watching. The arrangement that usually serves a two-child household better is consecutive one-to-one slots on the same evening with separate specialists and a single point of contact.

Which authority regulates my child's school in Abu Dhabi?+

The Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. The authority differs elsewhere in the UAE: KHDA in Dubai, the Sharjah Private Education Authority in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula and assessment methods. None of them regulates private tutoring rates, which is why tutoring prices spread so much more widely than school fees do.

Do I need to check whether a tutor has a UAE permit?+

Yes, and it takes one question. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Working without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount quoted to you as unverified. Ask which category the tutor holds it under.

How do I write a tutoring request that gets comparable quotes?+

Six lines. The board and specification code with tier. The year group and the school's assessment calendar. The component that is going wrong, named rather than described. The most recent marked assessment attached. The six extras questions asked in the same message. And a question about what happens if the match is wrong in week three. Providers who price a named component and answer the extras in writing have given you something comparable. Providers who return an hourly rate and a paragraph about confidence have not, which is itself informative.

When in the UAE school year is tutoring money best spent?+

The summer break is the most under-used window in this market and often the most valuable, because transition work belongs there: non-calculator fluency between IGCSE and post-16 maths, the MYP to Diploma algebra bridge, an Extended Essay research question settled before DP2 begins. Within term time, the twelve weeks before an exam series return the most per hour on technique and timed papers. The period to avoid for new teaching is the fortnight before a school's own internal deadline, when a student needs time rather than more input.

How does tutoring work during Ramadan in Abu Dhabi?+

The school day shortens and the evening changes shape, so the arrangement should be agreed before the month starts rather than negotiated week by week. Post-Iftar sessions work well for many students, who find the quiet late evening their most productive concentrated time. Others do better having the block moved out of Ramadan entirely and resumed afterwards. Both are reasonable. What wastes money is a standing slot that gets cancelled four weeks in a row, since a missed session is the one cost with no educational return at all.

Will lessons continue if we travel between Abu Dhabi and abroad?+

Yes, and that is one practical advantage of online delivery over any visiting arrangement. Lessons are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time by default, and where a family is travelling the slot can move to suit the time zone they are in rather than pausing for the trip. It does need stating in advance so the tutor's own week can accommodate it. Families who travel frequently often keep a lighter but unbroken schedule through holidays rather than a heavy term-time one with month-long gaps, which works better for retention.

What happens if the tutor is not the right match after a few sessions?+

Say so early rather than waiting for the term to end. A mismatch is usually visible by the third session, and the signals are consistent: your child speaks very little, the sessions cover ground rather than fixing anything named, and there is no running record of what has closed. We rematch on request, and the information from the first attempt makes the second one better because the component and the loss pattern are now documented. Ask any provider what their replacement policy is before booking, not after.

Are tutors allowed to give me past papers and mark schemes?+

They should reference and link them rather than distribute them. Past papers, mark schemes, specifications and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and reproducing or supplying them as downloads is a copyright matter rather than a grey area. Your child's school has legitimate access, and the boards publish material through their own channels. A provider offering a bundle of papers as a selling point is doing something that should make a parent cautious rather than pleased, and it says something about the rest of their practice.

How quickly can a tutor be matched for a student in Al Raha Beach?+

For mainstream IGCSE subjects and Diploma courses with deep supply, usually one to two working days. For thinner courses, longer: Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Further Pure Mathematics and some Diploma language B courses can take up to a week. Where nobody suitable is free we give one of three answers rather than a vague reassurance: a waiting date, a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus on Gulf Standard Time and disclosed as such, or an admission that we cannot cover it well.

Price the model, then the hour

A search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Raha Beach sorts by distance, which is the one variable that does not affect the teaching. Sort by model instead. Work out whether you are buying a freelancer with no overheads, an agency with a replacement policy, premises with a licence, or a matching platform, then read the rate against that. Ask the six extras questions of everybody including us, send a marked paper with your request, and use the free trial as an audition. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no card details collected for the trial.
