IB Home Tutor in Al Raha Beach

Looking for an IB home tutor in Al Raha Beach usually comes down to one question nobody answers directly: is there anyone within reach who genuinely knows my child's Diploma subject at their level? This page answers it subject group by subject group, names the courses that are scarce everywhere, says what happens when no specialist is free, and gives you the questions that test a tutor's subject knowledge in one exchange.

  • Coverage stated by subject group before you commit
  • Scarce Diploma courses named rather than quietly accepted
  • Honest waiting times, and an honest no where it applies
  • Free trial lesson first, with no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Al Raha Beach

The honest answer about Diploma subject coverage

Al Raha Beach is a waterfront apartment community on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai road, within easy reach of several of the emirate's largest Diploma campuses. That makes it a good place to be an IB family and a slightly misleading place to search for a tutor, because proximity to a school is not proximity to a subject specialist. The two things are unrelated and families routinely conflate them.

Here is the arithmetic that nobody in this market publishes. The Diploma has six subject groups, and within them a student might be taking Biology at higher level, Economics at standard level, Spanish ab initio, Analysis and Approaches at higher level, Visual Arts, and Theory of Knowledge. Each of those is a separate specialism with its own internal assessment, its own criteria and its own paper structure. The number of adults living within a twenty-minute drive of Al Raha Beach who teach any one of them every week is small. For some of them it is zero.

That is not a failure of this community. It is what happens when you filter a narrow specialism by geography. The pool of people who teach Diploma Economics at higher level, understand how the portfolio commentaries are marked, and know where candidates lose evaluation marks is a professional population rather than a local one. Filter by subject and level and it is deep. Filter by postcode and it is almost empty.

There is a second layer of scarcity specific to the Diploma, and it is worth naming because it affects what a family can realistically expect. Internal assessment knowledge is subject-specific and non-transferable. A tutor who can teach Chemistry content competently may never have supervised a scientific investigation and may not know how the evaluation strand is marked. A tutor who teaches History well may not know what a historical investigation's source evaluation section is assessed on. Those are different competencies and they are not implied by subject knowledge.

So this page does something unusual for a tutoring page: it states coverage. Which subject groups we can staff and how quickly, which Diploma courses are scarce in this market regardless of who you ask, what we do when no suitable specialist is available, and how a parent can test subject and internal assessment knowledge in a single exchange before paying anyone. No competitor page we examined in this market discloses a coverage limit of any kind.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Abu Dhabi families are taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. That is what makes stating coverage possible at all: the pool is national rather than local, which is the only reason the answer to the question in the headline is ever yes.

At a glance

  • Six Diploma subject groups, each a separate specialism with its own internal assessment
  • Proximity to a Diploma school is not proximity to a subject specialist
  • Internal assessment knowledge is subject-specific and not implied by subject knowledge
  • Some Diploma courses are scarce everywhere, not just near Al Raha Beach
  • Lessons for Abu Dhabi families are delivered one-to-one over live video
  • No competing page we examined in this market discloses a coverage limit
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Coverage differs by programme as much as by subject, because each programme asks something different of a tutor. These are the programmes behind an IB enquiry from this part of Abu Dhabi.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across two years with three at higher level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internal assessment with published criteria, which means a tutor needs both the content and the assessment knowledge. Those two competencies are separate and have to be checked separately.

Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, and several of the largest Diploma campuses in the emirate sit within a short drive of Al Raha Beach. UAE Diploma schools sit the May session. No IB session or results date appears on this page: the IB's own site blocks automated access, so nothing has been confirmed at source.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject with published level descriptors rather than by terminal paper. Coverage here is easier in one sense and harder in another: more tutors can teach the content, and fewer know the descriptors well enough to explain what a criterion-level mark is actually awarded for.

Not every Abu Dhabi Diploma school runs the Middle Years Programme beneath it, so a DP1 cohort in this emirate mixes criterion-assessed students with International GCSE leavers. Those two groups need different first terms, and a tutor should be asked which they have taught.

COREAcross both Diploma years

The Diploma core

The Extended Essay at up to 4,000 words with a school supervisor, the Theory of Knowledge essay at up to 1,600 words on a prescribed title, the TOK exhibition at around 950 words across three objects, and Creativity, Activity, Service. Core support is process coaching against published criteria rather than subject teaching, which is a distinct skill again.

Every Diploma student already has a school supervisor for the Extended Essay, which is free and carries institutional accountability. A paid block should supplement that rather than replace it, and the school's internal deadlines are what any block has to be scheduled against.

CPAges 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Diploma courses combined with a career-related study and the CP core, including the reflective project and a language development portfolio. A small presence in Abu Dhabi, and correspondingly the hardest programme to staff, because the core components are unfamiliar to most Diploma tutors.

Where a student near Al Raha Beach is on the Career-related Programme, say so in the first message. The component list is different enough that a tutor matched on subject alone will be working to the wrong framework from the start.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Abu Dhabi families most often ask for, with the internal assessment named in each case, because that is the part where subject knowledge and assessment knowledge come apart.

Biology

HL and SL

Written papers plus the scientific investigation. The investigation is marked on criteria including evaluation, where honest treatment of limitations earns more than an ambitious topic does. A tutor who has never supervised one will teach the content well and the component badly.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the reasoning load. The scientific investigation requires laboratory access the school controls, so a tutor's role is design, data handling and evaluation rather than practical work. Uncertainty treatment is where marks concentrate.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields reward algebraic fluency; data-based questions reward graph discipline and error analysis. Students who derive correctly still lose marks for not stating assumptions, which is an explicit requirement rather than a stylistic nicety.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Two papers at standard level, three at higher, plus the exploration at a fifth of the grade. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. Higher level adds proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers, series and differential equations, none of which appears in the other route.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same paper structure, calculator throughout, and a very different content list: regression, chi-squared and t-tests, matrices and graph theory at higher level, Voronoi diagrams at standard. A tutor from the other route is not a near substitute.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and explicit evaluation decide the top bands. The portfolio of commentaries is a substantial internal component with its own word limit per commentary, and a tutor needs to know how the commentaries are marked rather than only the economics.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven papers plus a research project with its own word limit. Marks follow application to the specific organisation. Recited theory without the business in front of it sits mid-band however accurate it is.

History

HL and SL

Source handling in Paper 1 is assessed on its own terms: origin, purpose, content, value and limitation. The historical investigation is the internal component, with a word limit and a separately marked evaluation of sources and methods that narrative routinely crowds out.

Geography

HL and SL

Fieldwork is the internal component, with a stated word limit and criteria rewarding methodology and evaluation over presentation. Command terms such as examine and to what extent require explicit structure students rarely supply unprompted.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Guided textual analysis, comparative essay, the individual oral and an additional essay at higher level. The individual oral is built on a global issue and two extracts, is fully knowable in advance, and is therefore the component where preparation converts into marks most reliably.

Languages B and ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Papers plus listening and an individual oral. The scarcest group to staff at Diploma level in this market, because the combination of language, level and IB assessment knowledge narrows the pool sharply. Ab initio in particular is a specific course rather than beginner teaching.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition of around 950 words across three objects, both marked against published criteria. Support is process coaching on the student's own work, and it is a distinct competency from any subject specialism.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four shapes of Diploma support, chosen by the subject and the component rather than by habit. All are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not attend UAE addresses.

Subject and level matched weekly sessions

A weekly slot with a tutor matched to the named subject at the named level, working from that subject's current guide and following the school's topic order. The match is made at subject and level, not at group, because higher and standard level are different courses with different components.

  • Matched to the subject at the stated level
  • Works from the current subject guide
  • Follows the school's own scheme of work
  • Written note after each session

Internal assessment coaching

A bounded block on one subject's internal assessment, built on its published criteria and their mark allocations. This requires assessment knowledge rather than subject knowledge, so we match for it explicitly rather than assuming a subject tutor has it.

  • Criterion-by-criterion work with mark allocations
  • Topic or research question tested for viability
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only
  • Scheduled from the school's internal deadline

Core process coaching

Support on the Extended Essay research question, the Theory of Knowledge essay or the exhibition, within the published word limits and against the published criteria. A distinct competency from subject teaching, and one that supplements the school supervisor rather than replacing them.

  • Research question tested for scope and answerability
  • Criteria explained with their mark allocations
  • Word limits treated as hard boundaries
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never text supplied

Honest no, with the detail written down

Where we cannot staff a subject, level and slot properly, we say so and give you the subject, level and component written out so you can look elsewhere with precise information. This is a stated policy rather than a courtesy, because a mismatched tutor costs a term as well as a fee.

  • A clear answer rather than a placeholder tutor
  • The subject, level and component written down for you
  • Where a waiting time is realistic, we name it
  • No pressure to accept a different subject or tutor

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Raha Beach

01

Coverage by Diploma subject group, stated plainly

This is the section competitors in this market do not write. For mainstream Diploma subjects at a common evening slot, a match is usually available within a few days. For others it takes longer, and for a small number the honest answer is that we will not staff it well and you should look elsewhere with the subject and level written down.

The pattern follows demand and teacher supply rather than difficulty. Mathematics, the sciences and the individuals and societies group are the deepest, because they are the largest Diploma cohorts worldwide and therefore the largest teaching populations. English A is deep. Languages B and ab initio are much thinner, because the pool is the intersection of a specific language, a specific level and IB assessment knowledge. The arts are thinnest of all, and internal assessment coaching in the arts is a specialism of its own.

Within mathematics there is a further split worth stating, because families assume a single pool. Analysis and Approaches at standard level is the easiest match of the four. Applications and Interpretation at higher level is the hardest, because its content includes matrices with eigenvalues, graph theory and Markov chains that most Analysis and Approaches teachers have never taught. A tutor who says they can teach any of the four is describing a willingness rather than a specialism.

The table below gives the position by group with typical match times and the fallback in each case. Treat the times as typical rather than promised, because availability depends on the slot as much as the subject, and a 16:30 request is a much narrower ask than a 19:00 one.

02

Why a Diploma specialist is scarcer than an International GCSE one

  • The Diploma candidate population is far smaller than the International GCSE one
  • Higher level and specific routes are smaller cohorts again
  • Internal assessment knowledge is a separate competency from content knowledge
  • The core has no British-track equivalent and a small competent pool

Families moving from the British track into the Diploma often expect tutoring to be equally easy to arrange and find it is not. There are three structural reasons, and understanding them makes a waiting time easier to accept than a vague apology would be.

The first is cohort size. International GCSE is sat by a far larger global candidate population than the Diploma, which means a far larger teaching population and therefore a far larger pool of people who could tutor it. Within the Diploma, higher level in a given subject is a smaller cohort again than standard level, and a specific route like Applications and Interpretation at higher level is smaller still.

The second is the internal assessment. Every Diploma subject has one, each has its own criteria and mark allocations, and knowing them is a separate competency from teaching the content. A teacher who has taught Chemistry for ten years in a non-IB system knows the chemistry and does not know how a scientific investigation's evaluation strand is marked. That is not a criticism; it is simply a different body of knowledge, and it is the one families most need and least often check for.

The third is the core. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay have no equivalent in the British track, and coaching them requires familiarity with their published criteria and with what a 1,600-word or 4,000-word limit forces. The pool of people who can do that competently is small, and it does not overlap neatly with any subject specialism.

Taken together, those three facts mean that a Diploma family should expect to wait occasionally and should be suspicious of instant availability across every subject and level. A provider who can staff anything immediately is either very large or is matching on subject name alone, and the second is much more common than the first.

03

How to test whether a tutor knows the subject

A parent can establish this in one exchange, and the test is not about mathematics or chemistry. It is about assessment structure, because that is the knowledge a generalist lacks and cannot improvise. Ask a question whose answer is specific to the subject and level, and listen for whether the reply contains numbers and component names or adjectives and reassurance.

The useful questions are short. What is the internal assessment in this subject called, what share of the grade does it carry, and what are its criteria? Which papers does my child sit at this level and how are they weighted? What is the word limit on the internal component? Where do candidates at this level most often lose marks, and in which component? A specialist answers all four without hesitating. A generalist answers in terms of topics and effort.

The second test is about the student's own work. Send one marked paper or draft before the first session and see whether the tutor refers to it. A tutor who opens by naming two or three specific places on the script where marks were available is working from evidence. A tutor who opens by asking your child how they find the subject is working from a script, and that difference persists for as long as the arrangement does.

The third test is about limits. Ask what they would not do: whether they would write any part of an internal assessment, whether they can supply mark schemes, whether they would tutor a student at a school where they teach. A tutor with clear answers to those has thought about the boundaries. The correct answers are no, no and no, and in this market they are not universal, which is why the question is worth asking out loud.

What is the internal assessment in this subject, and its criteria?Names it and lists the criteria with their marksDescribes coursework in general termsAssessment knowledge, not content knowledge

04

What happens when no specialist is free

This is the part of the conversation this market avoids, and it is the reason the headline question on this page gets asked in the first place. There are three honest outcomes and we would rather name all of them than imply that the answer is always yes.

The first is a waiting time. For a subject at a level we cover but cannot staff at your preferred slot, the answer is usually a date rather than a refusal: a week, sometimes two, often with a later evening slot available sooner. A date we can meet is worth more than an immediate placement with the wrong person, and across a two-year Diploma a fortnight's wait is a small cost against a term of misdirected work.

The second is a partial match. In several cases we can cover the content but should not pretend to cover the internal assessment, or the reverse. Where that is true we say which, and a family can decide whether content support alone is worth buying while the school handles the assessment side. That is a legitimate arrangement and it is better than a tutor covering a criterion they have never seen marked.

The third is a refusal. For the thinnest cases, particularly in the arts and in some language B and ab initio combinations, the honest answer is that we will not staff it well. In that situation you get the subject, level and component written out so that you can look elsewhere with precise information, which is more useful than a sympathetic email. We would rather lose the enquiry than take a fee for a term of approximate teaching.

05

The internal assessment is where coverage really bites

  • Every Diploma subject has an internal assessment with published criteria
  • Assessment knowledge is subject-specific and not implied by content knowledge
  • A tutor explains criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • No tutor writes, rewrites, edits to completion or supplies text

Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment, each is marked against published criteria with stated mark allocations, and together they represent a substantial and controllable share of a student's final result. They are also where a subject-only tutor is least useful, which makes them the sharpest test of whether coverage is real.

The mathematics exploration is marked out of twenty across five criteria: presentation at four marks, mathematical communication at four, personal engagement at three, reflection at three, and use of mathematics at six. A tutor who knows that can explain why an elegant piece pitched below the course level cannot reach the top band. A tutor who does not will praise the mathematics and miss the ceiling.

The same structure recurs with different criteria in every subject. The sciences have an investigation whose evaluation strand rewards honest limitations over ambitious topics. History has an investigation with a separately marked evaluation of sources and methods. Economics has a portfolio of commentaries each inside its own word limit. Geography has fieldwork marked on methodology and evaluation. Language A has an individual oral built on a global issue and two extracts, which is entirely knowable in advance.

What a tutor may legitimately do is the same across all of them: explain each criterion and what its marks are awarded for, test whether a topic or research question the student proposed can reach the top band, teach the techniques the student has chosen, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. No tutor may write the work, rewrite a draft into its final form, edit it to completion or supply text for submission. One page competing for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright, and the risk in that transaction falls on the student.

06

What the school already covers, and why to ask first

  • Every Diploma student already has an Extended Essay supervisor
  • In scarce subjects the school's teacher may be the only local assessment expert
  • For absence, the class teacher has information no tutor has
  • Buy a paid block for diagnosis, criterion literacy and genuine coverage gaps

Before coverage becomes a problem worth solving, it is worth checking what is already provided. Diploma schools give every student a supervisor for the Extended Essay and a subject teacher responsible for internal assessment guidance. Those people know the school's internal deadlines, have seen previous cohorts' submissions, and carry accountability for the student's progress in a way no external provider does.

That matters particularly in the scarce subjects. If your child is taking a language B course or an arts subject that is hard to staff externally, the school's own teacher is not merely the free option, they may be the only person within reach with the relevant assessment knowledge. The useful move is to ask the department what support exists and when, rather than to assume the answer is a private tutor.

For content that has been missed through absence, the school is strictly better informed. The class teacher knows what was covered, which examples were used, and what the class is now assumed to know. An external tutor filling that gap will teach the topic as they normally would, which may be at a different depth or in a different order, leaving the student slightly out of step rather than caught up.

Where a paid hour then earns its place is narrow and real: individual diagnosis from the student's own work, criterion literacy explained at length, feedback on a specific draft, and coverage of a subject or route the school is thin in. That is what a block should be bought for, and it is a better conversation to have after the school has been asked than before.

07

Al Raha Beach scheduling, and the one thing that is genuinely local

  • Al Raha Beach is close to several large Diploma campuses, which widens the evening
  • 17:00 is workable for most households; 16:30 for those nearest their campus
  • Paper work needs ninety minutes; assessment coaching works in sixty
  • The durable slots across a Diploma year are 18:00 and 18:30 Gulf Standard Time

Having argued that coverage is national rather than local, the one thing that genuinely is local deserves its own section: when a session can start. Campuses serving Al Raha Beach finish their taught day between about 14:45 and 15:30, with co-curricular sessions running later on some days. The community's advantage is that several large Diploma campuses sit within a short drive, so arrival home is often between 15:40 and 16:15 rather than later.

Allowing three quarters of an hour at home, that puts a workable session start at 17:00 for most Al Raha Beach households and 16:30 for those closest to their campus. Our Abu Dhabi scheduling range runs from 16:30 to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time, and across a full Diploma year the slots that survive are 18:00 and 18:30, because a slot that only works on a quiet week will break within a fortnight.

Session length should follow the component. Past-paper work needs ninety minutes, because the unit is a paper sat under conditions plus the marking and the marking is where most of the learning happens. Internal assessment coaching works in sixty, since the material is the student's own draft. Core process coaching on a research question can be shorter still. Choosing the duration before the purpose is a common and avoidable waste.

For context on cost, published market bands put in-home one-to-one at AED 180-500 an hour with travel included against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. Bestimate quotes AED 180-350 for in-home, Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's specialist band runs AED 200-450 and upwards. Those are attributed market figures rather than our prices, and IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE.

08

Two checks that apply to whoever you hire

  • Ask for permit status under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023; it is free for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so treat any penalty figure as unverified
  • We do not arrange tutoring by a teacher at your child's own school
  • Regulator approval is a numbered permit, not a descriptive word

Whatever the coverage answer turns out to be, two pieces of due diligence are the same for every provider and both are quick. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Because the permit is free and quick, an independent tutor without one has no cost excuse, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted to you is unverified and should be treated that way. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal category requiring an educational services permit for a training institute.

There is an Abu Dhabi-specific point that matters here more than elsewhere, because this community sits beside several large campuses. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as barring teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit-holder's own school. We treat that as press-reported rather than as exact policy wording, and we do not arrange for a child to be tutored privately by a teacher at their own school.

The second check concerns standing. Regulator approval is a numbered permit rather than an adjective. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. We name those bodies to explain what they govern. Any provider claiming otherwise about itself is making a statement you can ask them to evidence.

Where we tutor

Al Raha Beach and the areas its Diploma families draw on

This list is about where tutors and campuses actually are, because that is what determines whether a local match exists at all. Each entry names the relevant fact.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartment districts on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai road, close to several of the emirate's largest Diploma campuses. Convenient for school, thin for resident Diploma subject specialists, which is the distinction this page turns on.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community immediately inland, sharing campuses with Al Raha Beach. The same convenience and the same scarcity: proximity to a Diploma school rather than to a pool of Diploma teachers.

Khalifa City

The largest concentration of Diploma places and of resident secondary teaching staff in the emirate. The deepest local pool available to an Al Raha Beach family, and the origin of most in-home quotes they will receive.

Yas Island

East along the coast with its own provision, reached without the inland loop that other island journeys require. A plausible origin for an in-home tutor, though the resident teaching population is small.

Al Reem Island

Dense vertical community towards the city, with growing provision. Shares Diploma cohorts with the Al Raha corridor in several cases, which means shared internal deadline calendars.

Saadiyat Island

Further along the coast with its own campus provision. Named here because cross-community in-home arrangements between the islands and the Al Raha corridor are impractical in the late afternoon.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Older central districts with the longest-established Diploma provision in Abu Dhabi. Relevant to coverage because experienced Diploma teachers have worked at these campuses for years and many still live nearby.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Reef

Inland communities where much of the emirate's teaching workforce lives. The real source of the Abu Dhabi in-home tutor pool, and a long drive to the coast at the hour sessions run.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Raha Beach

The Al Raha corridor

Students we support here are spread across the six Diploma subject groups unevenly, with the sciences, mathematics and individuals and societies heavily represented and the arts and language B groups thinner. That distribution is what shapes how quickly a match can be made.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level

Not the subject group. Biology at higher level and Biology at standard level are different courses with different component weightings, and Analysis and Approaches at higher level and Applications and Interpretation at standard level share almost nothing. The level is half the match.

  2. 02

Say which component is the problem

A paper, the internal assessment, the individual oral, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge. Content matching and assessment matching are separate, and telling us which you need is what lets us say honestly whether we can cover it.

  3. 03

Send one marked paper or draft

A returned test, a mock, or an annotated internal assessment draft. It converts the first session from an interview into teaching and lets you test whether the tutor works from evidence or from a script.

  4. 04

    Hear the coverage answer

We tell you whether we can staff that subject, level and component at that time, and whether the answer is a date, a partial match or a no. For the thinnest cases you get the detail written out so you can look elsewhere with precise information.

A full one-to-one session over live video at no cost and with no card details taken. Judge it on whether the tutor named the internal assessment and its criteria, referred to the work you sent, and was clear about what they would not do.

    Ask the school in parallel

Especially in a scarce subject, where the school's own teacher may hold the only relevant assessment knowledge within reach. Every Diploma student already has an Extended Essay supervisor, and departmental support is included in your fees.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Coverage stated before you commit

We say which subject groups we can staff, how quickly, and where the answer is a waiting time, a partial match or a no. No competing page we examined in this market discloses a coverage limit of any kind, which makes an undisclosed limit the market norm.

Content and assessment matched separately

Knowing a Diploma subject and knowing how its internal assessment is marked are different competencies. We match for them separately rather than assuming one implies the other, because in practice it frequently does not.

Matched at subject and level, not at group

Higher and standard level are different courses with different components, and within mathematics there are four distinct courses. A tutor who offers to teach any of them is describing willingness rather than specialism.

A refusal rather than a placeholder

Where we cannot staff something well, you get the subject, level and component written out to take elsewhere. A mismatched tutor costs a family a term of misdirected work as well as a fee, and the second cost is much the larger.

The school named as the first option

Every Diploma student already has a supervisor and a subject teacher with assessment responsibility. In scarce subjects they may be the only relevant expertise within reach, and for absence they hold information no external tutor has.

No claims, no reproduced materials, no unverified dates

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge, and no UAE office. We reproduce no board documents and publish no IB session or results date.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Raha Beach: your questions answered

Is there an IB specialist living near Al Raha Beach for my child's subject?+

Possibly not, and that is the honest answer rather than a discouraging one. Al Raha Beach sits close to several large Diploma campuses, but proximity to a school is not proximity to a subject specialist. The number of adults within a short drive who teach, say, Diploma Economics at higher level every week and know how the portfolio commentaries are marked is small. Filter by subject and level rather than by postcode and the pool is deep; filter by distance and it is nearly empty.

Which IB Diploma subjects are genuinely hard to staff?+

Languages B and ab initio, because the pool is the intersection of a specific language, a specific level and IB assessment knowledge. The arts are thinner still, particularly for internal assessment coaching. Within mathematics, Applications and Interpretation at higher level is the hardest of the four routes, because its content includes matrices with eigenvalues, graph theory and Markov chains that most Analysis and Approaches teachers have never taught. Those are scarce everywhere, not only in this community.

Why is a Diploma tutor harder to find than an IGCSE one?+

Three reasons. The Diploma candidate population is far smaller globally than International GCSE, so the teaching population is smaller. Higher level in a subject is a smaller cohort again, and a specific route smaller still. And every Diploma subject has an internal assessment with its own criteria, so a tutor needs assessment knowledge as well as content knowledge, and those are separate competencies that a long career teaching the subject elsewhere does not supply.

How do I test whether a tutor really knows my child's Diploma subject?+

Ask four questions. What is the internal assessment in this subject called, and what are its criteria with their mark allocations? Which papers does my child sit at this level and how are they weighted? What is the word limit on the internal component? And where do candidates at this level most often lose marks, and in which component? A specialist answers all four without hesitating. A generalist answers in terms of topics, effort and confidence.

What are the possible answers when a Diploma subject cannot be staffed?+

One of three things, all stated plainly. A waiting time, usually a week or two, often with a later evening slot available sooner. A partial match, where we cover the content but not the internal assessment or the reverse, and we say which. Or an honest no, in which case you get the subject, level and component written out so you can look elsewhere with precise information. We would rather lose an enquiry than take a fee for approximate teaching.

Can a tutor who teaches the subject also coach the internal assessment?+

Not automatically, and this is the check families most often skip. A teacher with ten years in a non-IB system knows the chemistry and may never have seen how a scientific investigation's evaluation strand is marked. The criteria, their mark allocations and the common failures are a separate body of knowledge. Ask specifically whether they have coached that component and what its criteria are, rather than assuming subject expertise covers it.

What exactly does the mathematics exploration get marked on?+

Five criteria totalling twenty marks: presentation at four, mathematical communication at four, personal engagement at three, reflection at three, and use of mathematics at six. The last of those rewards mathematics that is correct, relevant and commensurate with the course, which means an elegant piece pitched below the student's own course level cannot reach the top band however well written it is. A tutor who knows that will say so; one who does not will praise the mathematics and miss the ceiling.

Does IB Gram send Diploma tutors to Al Raha Beach addresses?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Abu Dhabi families are taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. On a page about coverage that is the whole reason an answer of yes is ever possible: the pool is a professional population rather than the set of people willing to drive to this community in the late afternoon.

Should I ask my child's school before looking for a tutor?+

Yes, and especially in a scarce subject. Every Diploma student has a supervisor for the Extended Essay and a subject teacher responsible for internal assessment guidance, both included in fees and both carrying accountability. In a language B or arts subject that is hard to staff externally, the school's teacher may be the only person within reach with the relevant assessment knowledge. For missed content the class teacher also knows exactly what was covered.

Is a tutor who teaches at my child's school a good option?+

Not one we will arrange. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as barring teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit-holder's own school. We treat that as press-reported rather than exact policy wording, and either way we do not arrange for a child to be tutored privately by a teacher at their own school.

What time can a Diploma session start for an Al Raha Beach family?+

Earlier than for most Abu Dhabi communities, because several large Diploma campuses are a short drive away. Taught days finish between about 14:45 and 15:30, arrival home is often between 15:40 and 16:15, and allowing three quarters of an hour at home that makes 17:00 workable for most households and 16:30 for those closest to their campus. Our range runs 16:30 to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time, and 18:00 and 18:30 are the slots that survive a full year.

How long should a Diploma session be?+

Let the component decide. Past-paper work needs ninety minutes, because the unit is a paper sat under genuine conditions plus the marking afterwards, and the marking is where most of the learning happens. Internal assessment coaching works well in sixty, since the material under discussion is the student's own draft. Core process coaching on a research question can be shorter again. Choosing a duration before choosing a purpose wastes part of every session.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay if we already have a supervisor?+

Yes, as a supplement rather than a substitute. The school supervisor knows the internal deadlines, has seen previous cohorts and carries accountability. A tutor adds time: testing whether a research question is answerable within 4,000 words, explaining what each criterion rewards, teaching research and referencing skills, and giving feedback on a draft the student wrote. No tutor may write the essay, rewrite a draft into its final form, edit it to completion or supply text.

Why does this page not list every subject as available?+

Because that would not be true, and an undisclosed coverage limit is the norm in this market rather than the exception. No competitor page we examined discloses one at all, and several conceal the fact that delivery is not local. Stating which groups are deep, which are thin and where the answer is a refusal is more useful to a parent than a list of everything, and it is the only version of the claim we can stand behind.

What is the first message I should send about a Diploma subject?+

Five things: the subject, the level, which component is the problem, the campus your child attends, and the time they are realistically home. Add one marked paper or draft and the first session can open with teaching. Those five facts let us answer the coverage question honestly in one reply, and they are also exactly what any other provider needs in order to give you a truthful answer rather than a reassuring one.

Ask for the coverage answer, not the reassurance

Send the subject, the level and the component, and ask directly whether that combination can be staffed and by when. A provider who answers with a date, a partial match or an honest no is telling you something; one who answers yes to everything is matching on subject name alone. IB Gram teaches Abu Dhabi Diploma students one-to-one over live video, matches content and assessment knowledge separately, writes the detail back to you when we cannot help, and starts with a free trial lesson and no card details taken.
