IB & IGCSE in Al Muroor

The cost of IB maths help in Al Muroor, before anyone talks about pedagogy

Most Al Muroor parents arrive at this search with a figure already in their heads, usually one quoted by a neighbour in the same building. The figures travel badly. A rate that made sense for a Grade 9 MYP maths top-up is the wrong anchor for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level in the second year of the Diploma, and a rate quoted for a group of three is not a rate for one-to-one work. The first job of this page is to separate the bands so you know which one your child's situation actually sits in. Get the band right and everything after it is easier to judge.

Across Abu Dhabi, published market rates split cleanly into four tiers. University-student and budget online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour; EdFlik lists from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors working online sit between AED 150 and 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 plus. Premium named or examiner-badged tutors are quoted up to AED 650, with BartyED at that figure.

The fourth band is the one that matters most on a page with the word home in its URL. An in-home one-to-one visit in the UAE is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is built in, against AED 150 to 300 for the same calibre of teaching delivered online. The gap is not a quality premium. It is petrol, parking and forty minutes of a tutor's evening spent on Airport Road. You pay it, and your child receives nothing extra for it.

That is why IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring at a family's address is a service we run only in India. For an Al Muroor family, every lesson happens one-to-one over live video, shared screen, with the same tutor each week. The practical consequence is that your shortlist is no longer limited to the Analysis and Approaches teachers who happen to live within a twenty-minute drive of Muroor Road, which in a subject this specialised is usually a shortlist of two or three.

The rest of this page spends its words on where money leaks out of a maths package: hours bought before anyone has diagnosed the gap, homework-supervision sessions dressed up as tuition, two-hour blocks that produce ninety minutes of value, and exploration support bought six weeks too late to influence the mark. Those four mistakes account for more wasted dirhams in central Abu Dhabi than any rate difference between providers.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB maths in Al Muroor is taught across three programme stages, and the money behaves differently in each. Primary Years work is cheap and rarely urgent, Middle Years work is where a route choice is quietly being made, and Diploma work is where rates and hours both climb.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-K to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Maths in the PYP is embedded in transdisciplinary units rather than taught as a separate timetabled subject, so a parent often cannot see a gap until the child moves into the Middle Years. Number sense, place value, fractions and the early habits of mathematical reasoning are the real content. Tuition here is short, infrequent and inexpensive, and it is almost always about rebuilding confidence after a school move.

Al Muroor families typically use primary schools in the neighbouring Al Mushrif and Al Nahyan districts, and a change of curriculum on arrival in Abu Dhabi is the common trigger. A child arriving from a CBSE or American primary into a PYP classroom meets a very different relationship with written method, and two or three sessions usually settles it.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP maths is assessed against four criteria, A to D, with criterion D asking students to apply mathematics to real-life contexts. Standard and extended strands run in parallel from around Year 9, and the strand a student sits in by Year 11 shapes which Diploma maths route the school will recommend. Tuition in MYP 4 and 5 is the cheapest intervention available with a real effect on the Diploma.

Across Abu Dhabi island, the extended-strand decision is often made in the spring of Year 9, when a Muroor Road family is still settling into the school and not yet reading reports closely. A student held in the standard strand for two years can still reach Analysis and Approaches, but the catch-up is paid for later at Diploma rates rather than earlier at Middle Years rates.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Diploma maths is one of two courses, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher or Standard Level. SL sits two papers, HL sits three, and every student completes a mathematical exploration worth 20%. This is where hourly rates are highest and where hours are most often bought in the wrong order, because families start with revision when the problem is a two-year gap in algebraic fluency.

Diploma students in Al Muroor commute out to IB schools on Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island and the Al Raha corridor, which pushes the realistic start of a weekday session past six in the evening. Online delivery is what makes a 7pm or 8pm Higher Level session possible at all without adding a tutor's drive time to the fee.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A maths tutor for an Al Muroor Diploma student is rarely tutoring maths in general. These are the specific courses and components the money is actually being spent on, and the ones where the cost per mark gained differs most.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

The algebra-heavy route, with proof, complex numbers, vectors and the full calculus toolkit including differential equations and Maclaurin series. Three papers plus the exploration. Marks are lost in Paper 1 because it is sat without a calculator and students have practised everything with one. This is the most expensive tuition in the subject and the one where an unqualified tutor is exposed fastest.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

The same mathematical culture as HL with a narrower syllabus: functions, trigonometry, sequences, differentiation and integration, and a lighter statistics load. Two papers plus the exploration. The commonest failure is a student who chose AA SL for a university prerequisite and is really an AI student, spending sessions on binomial expansion they will never be fluent in.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Modelling, statistics, graph theory, matrices and complex numbers in applied contexts, with heavy expectation of technology use. Three papers plus the exploration. Students lose marks by writing calculator answers without the modelling justification examiners pay for. Fewer tutors in Abu Dhabi cover AI HL properly, which is exactly where a local-only shortlist breaks down.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Statistics, financial maths, two-variable modelling and an introduction to differentiation, all technology-assisted. Two papers plus the exploration. It is a serious course, not a soft option, and the marks sit in correct interpretation of regression and chi-squared output rather than in manipulation. Tuition here is often the best value in the whole Diploma.

Mathematical exploration (the maths IA)

SL and HL

A piece of independent mathematical writing worth 20% of the final grade, marked against criteria A to E covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. A tutor may teach the criteria, question the mathematics and give feedback on drafts. No tutor may write any part of it.

Paper 1 technique, no calculator

SL and HL

At both levels Paper 1 is sat without technology, and it is the component Abu Dhabi students most consistently underperform because school practice is calculator-rich. Exact-value trigonometry, surd manipulation, logarithm laws and by-hand differentiation are the recoverable marks, and six focused sessions on them usually move more grade than six general revision hours.

Paper 3 extended response, HL only

Higher Level

Two long investigative questions worth 20% of the Higher Level grade, built to test whether a student can follow an unfamiliar mathematical thread under time pressure. It cannot be revised for by topic. It is trained by doing whole papers under timing and then dissecting the structure of the question, which is slow, specific work most generalist tutors never touch.

MYP extended maths, criteria A to D

MYP 4 and 5

Knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying maths in real-life contexts. Criterion B rewards generalisation and proof of a pattern, which is the skill the Diploma exploration later assumes. Students lose marks writing correct answers with no justification, and the fix is cheap at this stage.

MYP to Diploma bridging in algebra

Year 11 into Year 12

The specific gap between a comfortable MYP 5 student and a functioning Analysis and Approaches student: fluency with indices and surds, confident rearrangement, factor and remainder work, and the function notation the Diploma assumes from week one. Eight weeks over the summer at mid-band rates prevents a year of Diploma-rate remediation.

University prerequisite planning for maths

Years 11-13

Engineering, economics and medical routes each expect a particular maths course, and UAE and overseas admissions teams read AA and AI differently. Getting this right in Year 11 is free. Getting it wrong means a resit, an extra year, or a foundation programme, and those are the largest avoidable costs in this entire subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery patterns account for almost all IB maths tuition bought in central Abu Dhabi, and they cost very different amounts for reasons that have little to do with teaching quality. Here is what each one buys.

Weekly one-to-one online, the default

A fixed sixty or ninety-minute slot with the same tutor each week, held over live video with a shared digital whiteboard. The student's own school material drives the agenda, and the tutor keeps a written record of what was covered so the next session starts where the last one stopped. This is what IB Gram delivers to Al Muroor families, and the rate carries no travel component.

  • Same tutor every week, so no restart cost in session one
  • Written notes and the whiteboard saved after each lesson
  • Slots from 6pm Gulf Standard Time, after the island's school run clears
  • Rescheduling without losing the slot in mock and exam weeks

Intensive blocks before mocks and finals

A compressed run of sessions over two to six weeks, aimed at a named target such as Paper 1 non-calculator technique or the Higher Level Paper 3 question structure. Intensives are expensive per week and cheap per mark when they are pointed at a diagnosed weakness, and wasteful when they are bought as general revision in the last fortnight.

  • Two or three sessions a week against one named component
  • Whole papers under timing, then dissected line by line
  • A written gap list after the first session, revised at the end
  • Only worth buying once the gap has been identified

Exploration coaching across the autumn

Short, spaced sessions tracking the mathematical exploration from topic choice through to the final draft. The student writes; the tutor teaches the five criteria, pushes on the mathematics and asks the questions a moderator would ask. Bought in September this changes the mark. Bought in the week before submission it mostly buys proofreading at a specialist's rate.

  • Criteria A to E taught explicitly, with the mark allocation named
  • Mathematics interrogated for depth, not decorated
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, never writing on their behalf
  • A clear line drawn and explained at the start about academic honesty

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Muroor

01

What IB maths tuition costs around Al Muroor, by tier

  • Rates rise with level, not with year group: AA HL costs more than AI SL at the same age
  • A two-hour minimum is a travel cost in disguise
  • Package prices are usually cheaper per hour and harder to exit
  • Ask every provider which band their figure sits in before comparing

An IB maths tutor in Al Muroor costs between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour online for a qualified subject specialist, and between AED 200 and AED 450 or more for a tutor who works specifically on IB, IGCSE and A-Level. In-home one-to-one visits in this market are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. Those are market figures published by providers in 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

The table below sets the published bands against each other so you can see what the format, rather than the teaching, is costing you. Read the in-home column as travel-inclusive: nobody drives across Abu Dhabi island at 6pm for free, and the cost of that drive reaches you as a higher hourly figure or as a two-hour minimum booking.

Monthly packages circulating in this market give the clearest picture of the real commitment. Around AED 799 a month buys eight online sessions. In-home packages of four two-hour visits are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A Higher Level Analysis and Approaches student in Year 13 is in that top row, and planning on the budget row is the most common reason a family runs out of money in April. One more thing to hold: a rate is only comparable when the session length and the booking minimum are stated alongside it, and many quotes in this market omit both.

The four places maths money leaks in a Diploma year

  • One diagnostic hour before any package, with recent school assessments to hand
  • Specialist rates for teaching, not for supervised silence
  • Sixty or seventy-five minutes beats two hours for abstract work
  • Exploration support in September, not in the week of the deadline

Spending badly on maths tuition is not usually about paying too much an hour. It is about buying the right hours in the wrong order. Four patterns recur across central Abu Dhabi, and each has a specific cost attached.

The first is buying a package before anyone has diagnosed the gap. A ten-hour block looks like a saving against a single hour, but if six of those hours go on topics the student already holds, the effective rate on the useful four is more than double the sticker price. A single diagnostic session, with the student's last two school assessments in front of the tutor, costs one hour and routinely redirects the other nine.

The second is paying specialist rates for homework supervision. A tutor who spends an hour sitting beside a student working through set questions is doing something a quiet room and a worked-solutions file would do for nothing. The hour is only worth AED 250 if the tutor is teaching something the student could not have reached alone. The third is the two-hour block bought for convenience: concentration on abstract mathematics measurably degrades after about seventy-five minutes, and the second hour of a Thursday evening double is frequently the most expensive low-value hour a family buys all year.

The fourth is late exploration support. The mathematical exploration is 20% of the grade and its mark is largely determined by the topic chosen and the depth of mathematics available in it. Both decisions happen in the first fortnight. A tutor engaged in September can steer them. A tutor engaged ten days before the school deadline is reading a finished piece of work whose ceiling is already set, at the same hourly rate, for a fraction of the effect.

03

Online against in-home maths tuition on Muroor Road

This is the comparison most Al Muroor parents are really making, and it deserves honest numbers rather than a sales line. In-home tutoring is a real service that real families in Abu Dhabi buy, and it has genuine advantages: a young child stays in a familiar room, a parent can hear what is happening, and nothing depends on a connection.

It also carries costs that do not appear on an invoice. The travel premium is the visible one. The invisible ones are the shortlist and the schedule. A tutor who must physically reach a flat behind Muroor Road by 6pm can realistically serve a radius of a few kilometres, which for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level in Abu Dhabi narrows the field to a handful of people. If none of them is an AA HL specialist, the family quietly accepts a generalist and pays the specialist premium anyway.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Every Al Muroor lesson is one-to-one over live video, which means the match is made on subject and level rather than on postcode, and the hour you pay for is sixty minutes of teaching rather than forty minutes of teaching and twenty of someone else's commute. The table sets the two formats against each other on the terms that matter to a Diploma maths student. There is also a quieter advantage. An online session can be held when a family is travelling between Abu Dhabi and somewhere else, and Al Muroor households travel a great deal; a Year 13 maths programme that stops for three weeks in February does not recover by itself.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that sets the bill

No single decision changes an Al Muroor family's tuition spend more than which maths course the student sits. The two courses are not a harder and an easier version of the same thing. They are different subjects with different assessment cultures, and a student placed in the wrong one needs support for two years rather than two terms.

Analysis and Approaches rewards algebraic fluency and formal method. Applications and Interpretation rewards modelling judgement and correct interpretation of technology output. A student with strong number sense and weak abstraction will fight AA HL every week for two years at specialist rates; the same student in AI HL is frequently a comfortable 6. The grade is not the only consideration, because university prerequisites differ, but the cost of fighting the wrong course is real and it is paid in hours.

Check the prerequisite before the preference, and check it against the actual universities on the shortlist rather than a general impression. Engineering and mathematics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level. Business, economics, psychology and most health-science routes accept Applications and Interpretation, and many accept either. Where a family is undecided between a UAE university and an overseas one, the safe move is to read both admissions pages in Year 11 and keep the record, because this is also the conversation in which a school's blanket advice and a specific department's requirement sometimes disagree. One practical test, usable at a kitchen table: ask the student to explain why a method works rather than to perform it. A student who can justify is an Analysis and Approaches student; a student who can apply confidently but cannot justify is usually happier and better rewarded in Applications and Interpretation.

What a single maths session should actually produce

  • A written gap list in syllabus language after session one
  • Saved worked solutions, not notes that leave with the tutor
  • Practice chosen against a named weakness, not a chapter number
  • Timed component practice built in before mocks
  • A clear statement when weekly tuition is no longer the right purchase

If you are paying AED 250 for an hour, you are entitled to know what the hour is supposed to leave behind. A good IB maths session is not a conversation about maths. It produces artefacts you can see, and a parent who checks for them twice a term will spot a drifting arrangement long before the report does.

By the end of a first session there should be a written gap list: the specific topics and skills the tutor believes are weak, in syllabus language, with the evidence that led to each. Not 'needs to work on algebra' but 'rearranges correctly but loses sign on expansion of a bracketed negative; cannot yet use the factor theorem unprompted'. That document is what the next eight weeks are purchased against, and if it does not exist, nobody can tell you later whether the money worked.

By the end of any session there should be worked solutions the student can reopen, a short set of practice questions chosen for a named weakness rather than a chapter, and one sentence about what comes next. Across a term you should expect timed component practice, not only topic work, because the Diploma is marked under timing. And you should expect to be told when tuition is no longer the right spend. A student who has closed the gap and now needs volume of past papers does not need a tutor every week, and a tutor who says so is worth more than one who does not.

06

The exploration: what a tutor may do, and what no tutor may do

  • Criteria A to E taught explicitly, with mark allocations named
  • Topic depth interrogated early, while the topic can still change
  • Written feedback on the student's own drafts
  • Nothing written, supplied or rewritten on the student's behalf

The mathematical exploration is 20% of the final maths grade, and it is the component where paying for the wrong kind of help can end a Diploma rather than improve it. The boundary is set by IB academic-honesty rules, it is not negotiable, and it is worth stating in plain language before any money changes hands.

A tutor may teach the assessment criteria and what each one rewards. A tutor may discuss candidate topics and press on whether the mathematics in them is deep enough to reach the higher bands. A tutor may question a method, point at an unjustified step, ask why a model was chosen, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may teach the mathematics the exploration needs, which is often mathematics slightly beyond the taught course.

No tutor may write any part of the exploration, supply text to paste, restructure the student's prose into their own, or produce the mathematics for the student to transcribe. Work bought in is malpractice under IB rules, with consequences that fall on the student rather than on whoever sold it. There is a real market in completed Internal Assessments in this region, advertised at four-figure dirham prices. Buying one risks the whole Diploma, and the pages selling them are the clearest reason a parent should ask any provider to state its honesty policy in writing before the first session. Say the boundary out loud with your child as well. A student who knows exactly what help is legitimate asks for it earlier and uses it better, and a student who is unsure tends either to ask for nothing or to accept something they should not.

07

Counting backwards from the maths papers

Cost control in a Diploma maths year is mostly a scheduling problem. The hours are not expensive in the abstract; they are expensive when they are bought in the last six weeks, which is when every family in Al Muroor wants them and when the specialists with capacity are the ones nobody else booked.

Work backwards from the papers rather than forwards from today. Abu Dhabi IB schools sit the May session, and the school's own internal deadlines land months before it. Exploration topic approval and first drafts fall in the autumn of Year 13. Mock papers usually sit in the winter term. Predicted grades are issued off the back of those mocks, which makes the mock window the single highest-stakes assessment point of the year for university applications, and the one families routinely treat as practice.

For Cambridge IGCSE students in the same household, note that UAE centres sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered in India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November timetable ending on 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. Specific IB session and results dates change and are published by the IB, so confirm them with your child's Diploma coordinator rather than with any tutoring website, including this one. Book the specialist hours you expect to need in the winter term before the winter term arrives. Capacity in this market is consumed in the order it is requested, not in the order of need.

ADEK, your tutor's permit, and two things you can verify yourself

  • ADEK licenses and inspects Abu Dhabi private schools and publishes inspection outcomes
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No official fine schedule is published, so quoted amounts are unverified
  • A teacher privately tutoring their own enrolled student is outside ADEK's ethics rules

Private schools in Abu Dhabi are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection outcomes. ADEK is named by none of the tutoring competitors researched for this project, which is an odd gap given it is the body that actually governs the schools these students attend.

Private tutoring is separately regulated at federal level. Individuals offering private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so any specific figure you see quoted online is unverified.

Two things follow for an Al Muroor parent, and both are checkable. First, ask any tutor whether they hold a current private tuition permit, and understand that the permit is a legal clearance, not a teaching qualification or a regulator's endorsement of anyone's maths teaching. Second, note that ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. A tutor who offers to teach your child privately while teaching them at school is offering something they should not, and that is reported policy worth verifying against the current ADEK document before anyone acts on it.

09

What happens when no specialist is free

  • Availability stated with a date, not implied
  • The named tutor before the trial, not after it
  • A clear distinction between covering a course and specialising in it
  • A match change without a negotiation if the trial does not fit

Every tutoring page in this market implies infinite availability. None of them has it. Analysis and Approaches Higher Level and Applications and Interpretation Higher Level are small, specialised cohorts, and the number of people who teach them well and are free at 7pm Gulf Standard Time in February is finite. Saying so is more useful to an Al Muroor parent than pretending otherwise.

When a request comes in for a course and level with no immediate specialist free, there are three honest answers and we will give you whichever applies. The first is a waiting time with a date attached. The second is a tutor who covers the course solidly but is not the deepest specialist available, named as such, usually a reasonable choice for SL work and a poor one for HL Paper 3. The third is that we cannot cover it well at the hours you need, which is sometimes the correct answer and always better than a bad match that burns a term.

The one thing that does not happen is a quiet substitution. You are told who is teaching your child, what they teach, and what their experience of the specific course and level is, before the trial lesson rather than after it. If the trial does not work, the match changes without an argument, because a mismatch identified in week one costs an hour and a mismatch tolerated to half term costs a grade. The same transparency applies to timing. If the only slot a specialist can hold is 8.30pm on a Tuesday, you are told that before you commit rather than discovering it in week three, because a slot a family cannot sustain is a slot that quietly becomes a cancellation habit.

Al Muroor sits inland on Abu Dhabi island with Airport Road on one flank and the Al Mushrif and Al Nahyan school cluster a short drive away. Because delivery is online, the same tutor can hold a 7pm Higher Level slot for families in any of the districts below without the travel premium showing up in anyone's fee.

Al Muroor

Dense mid-rise apartment blocks along and behind Muroor Road, with a long-settled resident population and short school runs into Al Mushrif and Al Nahyan. Evening traffic on Airport Road is the main constraint on when a session can start.

Al Nahyan

Immediately east of Al Muroor and home to several long-established private schools. Families here often have siblings in two different curricula, which makes a single travelling tutor awkward and a pair of online slots straightforward.

Al Mushrif

The island's heaviest concentration of British-curriculum and IB provision within a few minutes of Al Muroor. A school day that ends at 3.15pm here still means a 4.45pm arrival home once the car park clears.

Al Wahda

Apartment living around Al Wahda Mall, with the shortest commutes on the island and the tightest living space. A shared study room is the usual reason a family asks about a quiet online slot rather than a visitor in the flat.

Al Manaseer

West of Al Muroor towards the Corniche and Al Bateen, with families using schools on both the western island and the Bloom Gardens side. Cross-island school runs here routinely consume ninety minutes of a weekday afternoon.

Al Karamah

A quieter residential pocket bordering Al Muroor, with a mixed school pattern spread between the island and Khalifa City. Siblings at two campuses is the norm, and an online schedule absorbs that without a second commute.

Al Rawdah

Villa and low-rise streets on Al Muroor's southern edge, with several families running to Al Raha and Khalifa City campuses. A 4pm session is unrealistic from here; a 6.30pm one is comfortable.

Al Reem Island

A twelve-minute crossing from central Abu Dhabi and the location of two of the emirate's larger IB and British-curriculum campuses, which is where a good number of Al Muroor Diploma students actually study.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Muroor

Al Mushrif, Al Nahyan and Al Muroor

The school cluster closest to Al Muroor, mixing British-curriculum IGCSE and A-Level provision with IB Diploma campuses. Students we support in this cluster most often ask for Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level and for exploration feedback in the autumn of Year 13.

  • Al Nahda National Schools
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School
  • Al Muna Academy

Al Reem Island, Bloom Gardens and Al Bateen

The campuses Al Muroor Diploma families commute out to, reachable in roughly fifteen to twenty-five minutes outside peak. Higher Level maths cohorts here are small, which is precisely why the pool of local AA HL tutors is thin and why online matching widens it.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the level and the clock

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard Level, the school, the year group, and the two evening windows that genuinely work from Al Muroor once the school run is home. The level and the window together determine who is actually available.

  2. 02

Send the last two pieces of real evidence

A recent school assessment and the latest report, marked, with the teacher comments intact. This is worth more than any description of the problem, because a maths script shows where method breaks down and a report rarely does. It also means the trial lesson starts with diagnosis rather than introductions.

  3. 03

Take the free trial with a named tutor

You are told who the tutor is and what they teach before the lesson. The trial is a working session, not a sales call: the tutor teaches something, tests a hypothesis about the gap, and writes down what they found. If the fit is wrong, the match changes and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

Agree the gap list and the hours against it

After the trial you receive the written gap list in syllabus language. Hours are then bought against that list rather than against a calendar, which is the single change that stops a package being spent on topics the student already holds.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks and taper deliberately

At six weeks the gap list is revisited against school evidence, and the plan changes if the evidence says so. As the student becomes self-sufficient, sessions reduce. A tutor who tells you to cut back is giving you the most valuable advice in this market.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates in the open, with their source

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider that published it or to Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars. A UAE family comparing options should be able to see the bands.

Matched on course and level, not on postcode

Because lessons are online, the shortlist for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is every specialist available rather than those within a drive of Muroor Road. In a cohort this small, that difference is the whole quality question.

No travel premium inside the fee

The AED 180 to 500 in-home band in this market includes a tutor's journey. An online hour is sixty minutes of teaching. Nothing in the rate is paying for Airport Road at six in the evening.

A stated line on academic honesty

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own exploration. Nothing is written, supplied or rewritten for the student. Completed Internal Assessments are sold in this market at four-figure prices, and the risk of buying one falls entirely on the student.

Availability told straight

When no Higher Level specialist is free at the hour you need, you get a waiting time, a named alternative with its limits stated, or an honest no. None of the researched competitors discloses a coverage limit anywhere.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Muroor: your questions answered

What should I expect to pay an IB maths tutor in Al Muroor per hour?+

Published market rates in Abu Dhabi put a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, and an IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more. Unitors publishes IB from AED 200, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 rate table reaches AED 450 plus. In-home one-to-one visits sit higher, at AED 180 to 500 with travel included. Which band you need depends on level, not age: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in Year 13 belongs in the specialist band, and budgeting at the qualified-tutor band is the commonest way a family runs short in the spring.

Is it cheaper to put my child in a group maths class instead of one-to-one?+

Per hour, yes. Abu Dhabi tuition centres commonly price a group of two to four at AED 80 to 180 a student against AED 150 to 300 for one-to-one online. Whether it is cheaper per mark depends entirely on whether everyone in the group is stuck on the same thing. A group working through a shared syllabus at a shared pace is good value. A group where one student needs non-calculator algebra and another needs exploration help is three students each receiving a third of a lesson, and families usually end up buying one-to-one hours afterwards anyway.

Do tutors come to apartments in Al Muroor for IB maths lessons?+

Some providers in Abu Dhabi do offer that, and market rates for in-home one-to-one sit at AED 180 to 500 an hour because the figure absorbs the tutor's journey. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; visits to a family's address are a service we run only in India. For an Al Muroor family every lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The practical gain is that the tutor is chosen for knowing Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level rather than for living near Muroor Road, and the hour you pay for contains no commute.

How many maths sessions does a Diploma student in central Abu Dhabi usually need?+

Most families start with one session a week and hold it for a term, which is enough to close a defined gap in algebra or calculus if the hours are aimed properly. A Year 13 Higher Level student with a wide gap and mocks approaching often needs two a week for six to eight weeks, then drops back to one. What matters more than the count is the order: a diagnostic hour first, then hours bought against a written gap list. Ten hours bought blind commonly deliver the value of four, which doubles the effective rate on the hours that worked.

My child is in AA HL and sinking. Is switching to AI HL a waste of the money already spent?+

No, and the question is worth asking early rather than late. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different subjects, not difficulty settings. A student with strong number sense and weak abstraction can fight AA HL for two years at specialist rates and still land where AI HL would have put them comfortably. Check the prerequisite for the actual universities on the shortlist first, because engineering and maths routes usually expect AA. If the prerequisite allows AI, a switch made in Year 12 saves far more than it writes off, including in tuition hours.

Why does Paper 1 cost us so many marks when my child is good at maths?+

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both Standard and Higher Level, and most school practice is calculator-rich. A student can be genuinely strong mathematically and still lose a whole grade on exact-value trigonometry, surd manipulation, logarithm laws and by-hand differentiation, because fluency in those is a trained motor skill rather than an understanding. It is also the cheapest thing to fix. Six focused sessions on non-calculator technique typically move more grade than six hours of general revision, which makes it the highest-value hour available in either maths course.

Where is the line between exploration coaching and work a tutor must not touch?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the assessment criteria and their mark allocations, discuss and press on candidate topics, teach mathematics the exploration needs, question an unjustified step, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write any part of it, supply text, or produce mathematics for the student to copy. Bought-in work is malpractice under IB rules and the consequences fall on the student. Ask any provider to state its honesty policy in writing before the first session; completed assessments are sold in this market.

When is the right month to start exploration support rather than exam support?+

Early in the autumn of Year 13, when the topic is still changeable. The exploration is 20% of the maths grade, and most of that mark is decided by the topic choice and the depth of mathematics available inside it, both of which are settled in the first fortnight of the process. A tutor engaged then can redirect a thin topic into a workable one for the cost of two short sessions. A tutor engaged ten days before the school deadline is reading a finished piece whose ceiling is already set, at the same hourly rate.

What time can lessons realistically start for a family living around Muroor Road?+

Six in the evening is the first comfortable slot, and seven is easier. Al Muroor children attend schools spread across Al Mushrif, Al Nahyan, Al Reem Island and the Al Raha corridor, so a 3.15pm finish regularly becomes a 4.45pm arrival once the car park and Airport Road are accounted for. Online delivery makes the later slot workable, because nobody is adding a tutor's drive to the end of that chain. Weekend mornings are the other good window and are usually the better one for long exploration sessions.

Do private maths tutors in Abu Dhabi need a permit, and how would I check?+

Yes. Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day turnaround. Ask the tutor directly whether they hold a current permit. Treat it as a legal clearance rather than proof of teaching quality, and remember no official fine schedule is published for working without one.

Is a cheaper tutor at AED 100 an hour a false economy for Higher Level maths?+

Often, though not always. The AED 45 to 150 band is populated by university students and generalist online tutors, and it is reasonable value for MYP homework support or for keeping a Standard Level student moving through routine practice. For Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level it usually is a false economy, because the specific skills in short supply are Paper 3 question structure, non-calculator fluency and exploration depth, and those need someone who has taught the course. Paying AED 250 for eight useful hours beats AED 100 for twenty supervised ones.

Which Abu Dhabi schools do your IB maths students near Al Muroor attend?+

Students we support in this part of the island come from campuses in Al Mushrif and Al Nahyan and from the IB and British-curriculum schools on Al Reem Island, in Bloom Gardens and along the Al Raha corridor, including Repton School Abu Dhabi, GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi, Brighton College Abu Dhabi, The British School Al Khubairat and Abu Dhabi International School. Those names describe the local school map only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them, and no school on this page is a client.

How do I tell whether the money we are spending on maths is working?+

Look for artefacts rather than impressions. After the first session there should be a written gap list in syllabus language with the evidence behind each item. After every session there should be saved worked solutions and practice chosen against a named weakness. Across a term there should be timed component practice, not only topic work. At six weeks the gap list should be revisited against school evidence and changed if the evidence says so. If none of that exists, nobody can tell you in March whether February's hours achieved anything.

What if no Higher Level maths specialist is free in the evening slot we need?+

You get told. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level are small cohorts and the pool of people who teach them well at 7pm Gulf Standard Time is finite. The three honest answers are a waiting time with a date, a named tutor who covers the course solidly but is not the deepest specialist, with that limitation stated, or an admission that we cannot cover it well at the hours you need. What does not happen is a quiet substitution; you know who is teaching your child before the trial lesson.

Does the IB maths grade depend on which exam session my child sits?+

The grade depends on performance, not on the session, but the planning does change. Abu Dhabi IB schools sit the May session, and the internal deadlines that most affect the maths grade, exploration topic approval, first draft and final submission, fall months earlier in the autumn and winter. Mocks usually sit in the winter term and drive the predicted grades universities see. Specific IB exam and results dates are published by the IB and do change, so confirm them with your child's Diploma coordinator rather than with any tutoring website.

Start with one hour and a real gap list

If you are weighing an IB maths tutor in Al Muroor, the cheapest useful step is not a package. It is one diagnostic hour with a named specialist in your child's actual course and level, with a recent school assessment in front of them, ending in a written gap list you can hold on to. Book the free trial, tell us whether it is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation and at which level, and name the two evening windows that work once the school run from Al Mushrif or Al Reem Island is home. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If the match is wrong, we change it.
