IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Mushrif

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Mushrif tells Google where you are. It cannot tell Google which programme your child is on, which Higher Level subject is slipping, or whether the problem is content or timing. This page separates the two: what a proximity search is genuinely good for, and what has to be matched by hand. Lessons for Al Mushrif families run online, one-to-one, over live video.

  • Diploma, MYP and IGCSE covered by the same matching process
  • Tutors picked by programme and component, not by driving distance
  • Trial lesson is free and spent on a marked piece of work
  • Regulator and permit rules explained, never claimed as a badge

IB & IGCSE in Al Mushrif

A near-me search is a location filter pretending to be a quality filter

Search engines answer near-me queries with whatever is physically closest and has done enough local marketing to be found. For a restaurant that is a good trade. For a tutor it is close to meaningless, because the thing that decides whether the tuition works is not within two kilometres of Al Mushrif, it is whether the person has taught the exact component your child is failing. A Diploma student losing marks on a Mathematics Analysis and Approaches exploration and an IGCSE student mishandling frequency density need different people, and neither need is served by geography.

Al Mushrif makes this sharper than most districts. It sits inland between Airport Road and Karamah Street, a settled villa area with families whose children have often been in the same school since Foundation Stage. Those children are spread across at least three qualification routes: IGCSE in Years 10 and 11, the Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13, and the Middle Years Programme for anyone in an IB continuum school. Three routes, one postcode. No local tutor covers all three at depth, and the ones who claim to are usually describing confidence rather than coverage.

There is a second thing proximity cannot tell you. The UAE regulates private tutoring by permit. Anyone teaching your child privately needs a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and Abu Dhabi has its own layer on top, because ADEK's professional-ethics rules restrict what school staff may do outside school hours. A search result does not surface a permit. A conversation does, and it is a reasonable question to ask anybody before the first lesson, including us. Nor does a result page show whether the person is free in the only hour your child's week leaves open, which in Al Mushrif is usually later than a parent would choose.

So this page answers the near-me question in two parts. First, what the search is actually useful for: knowing which schools the district feeds, when the school day ends, which emirate regulator publishes the inspection report you are reading. Second, what has to be matched deliberately: programme, level, component, and the specific place marks are being lost. The first part is local knowledge, and this page carries it. The second part is why delivery is online.

Being plain about that: IB Gram does not send a tutor to an Al Mushrif address. Home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own work on screen, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. That removes the radius without removing the relationship, and it is the only way a family here can work with somebody who has taught their child's component through several sessions rather than somebody who lives nearby.

At a glance

  • Proximity is good evidence about schools and timetables, and poor evidence about teaching
  • Three routes run side by side in this district: IGCSE, MYP and the Diploma Programme
  • A private tutor in the UAE needs a MoHRE permit; ask for it, including from us
  • ADEK rules restrict school staff from tutoring their own school's students
  • All Al Mushrif lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The same household often has children on two of these at once, which is why a single tutor is rarely the answer for a whole family. Each route is listed with the Abu Dhabi detail that changes how it is taught.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject, marked out of eight each, with no external papers until the optional eAssessment. Students arriving from a British lower school find the criteria language unfamiliar, and marks are lost on command terms rather than on content. Tuition here is mostly teaching a student to read a task sheet properly and to write to the criterion the task is actually assessing.

MYP students in Abu Dhabi often sit alongside peers heading to IGCSE in a different school, so comparisons between households are misleading. The useful comparison is against the criteria descriptors, which parents can read. Ask the school for the subject's criteria rubric; it is the single most helpful document for an MYP parent and it is rarely handed out unprompted.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Edexcel International GCSE

Terminal examinations, tiered into Core and Extended for Cambridge or Foundation and Higher for Edexcel, with the tier decision usually taken late in Year 10. Grades here set Diploma and A Level options, so a weak Year 10 narrows Year 12 before anybody has discussed it. The work that moves a grade is timed papers marked to the published scheme, not more textbook reading.

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; Cambridge offers its February/March series to India only. Cambridge also allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask the exams officer which zone your school is in.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three Higher and three Standard Level courses, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the creativity, activity, service requirement. Internal assessments run through both years and the deadlines are internal, which means they move and then collide. Most Diploma students who ask for help in Year 13 need deadline management as much as subject teaching.

UAE schools sit the May session. No IB session or results date appears on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated verification and a date a family plans travel around must come from the school's IB coordinator or ibo.org directly. Several schools within reach of Al Mushrif run the Diploma alongside A Levels, so Year 11 here is a genuine choice.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from this district cluster in a predictable set of subjects, split across the two boards. Each entry names what the subject actually assesses and where a tutor's time is best spent.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency, with the exploration worth a fifth of the grade. Higher Level adds a third paper that rewards unfamiliar problem-solving rather than recall. Students who arrived from a comfortable IGCSE Extended grade are the ones most often caught out, because the step up is in reasoning rather than in content volume.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use, with the graphic display calculator assumed throughout. The common error is treating it as the easier route; the Higher Level course is demanding and some university courses prefer Analysis. Check the prerequisite for the intended degree before the option form is signed.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended, Cambridge or Edexcel

Two examined papers, with the calculator policy differing by board. Marks go on method lines and rounding instructions far more often than on misunderstood topics. Three-dimensional trigonometry and frequency density are the two reliable repair jobs, and both take a session each.

Physics

IB HL and SL, IGCSE Core and Extended

Unit handling, graph interpretation and the extended-response questions that ask for an explanation rather than a number. At IGCSE the electricity topic produces the widest spread of marks. At Higher Level the practical and data-analysis skills carry weight that students consistently underprepare for.

Chemistry

IB HL and SL, IGCSE Core and Extended

Organic mechanisms, moles and the energetics calculations where arithmetic slips cost more than conceptual gaps. The internal assessment is where Diploma students lose most, usually on methodology and the evaluation rather than on the chemistry. A tutor teaches the criteria; the student does the work.

Biology

IB HL and SL, IGCSE Core and Extended

Volume of content plus precise command-term discipline. The difference between describe, explain and outline is worth several grades across a paper. Students who revise by rereading notes plateau quickly; the fix is answering past questions against the mark scheme and seeing which verb was actually being tested.

Economics

IB HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation. A perfectly drawn diagram with no explanation of the shift scores poorly, and so does an eloquent paragraph with no diagram. Higher Level adds quantitative work and a policy paper that rewards structured judgement. The internal assessment commentaries are a deadline problem as much as an economics one.

English A: Language and Literature

IB HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper one guided analysis are the two components where preparation pays most. Students often know the texts and cannot build an argument under timed conditions. Tuition is spent on structure and on reading an unseen text quickly enough to say something specific about it.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

IB core

The essay and exhibition are assessed on the quality of the question as much as the answer. A weak research question cannot be rescued by good writing. Support means interrogating the question, teaching the referencing conventions and giving feedback on the student's own drafts, never producing text for them.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by what the student actually needs rather than by what is easiest to sell. Each runs online, one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

Single-subject weekly support

One subject, one fixed hour a week, same tutor throughout. This is the format for a student who is coping overall and losing marks in one place. The sequence comes from a marked piece of work rather than from the textbook order, and it is revisited whenever a new mock or criterion-marked task arrives.

  • Same tutor across the block so the diagnostic is not repeated
  • Topic order set by where marks were actually lost
  • A short written note after each session naming the practice task

Diploma core and deadline support

For Year 12 and 13 students whose problem is the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or stacked internal assessment deadlines rather than a single subject. Sessions work on the research question, the structure, the referencing and feedback on the student's own drafts. The student writes every word; the tutor questions and marks against the published criteria.

  • Research question interrogated before any drafting begins
  • A deadline map across subjects so collisions are seen early
  • Feedback on drafts the student has written, never text supplied

Pre-series paper clinics

Two sessions a week in the six to eight weeks before a sitting, each built on one timed paper marked to the published scheme. The lesson is spent on the marks lost, in order of volume. New content stops unless something critical is missing, because at that range accuracy moves a grade and new topics rarely do.

  • A timed paper completed before each session
  • An error log kept across the block so patterns surface
  • Separate treatment of calculator and non-calculator skills

What a near-me search can tell you, and what it cannot

A proximity search is genuinely informative about place. It will tell you which schools sit near Al Mushrif, roughly when the local school day ends, and which tuition centres have premises on the island. Those facts matter: they decide whether a four o'clock slot is realistic and whether a sibling's pickup collides with it. Use the search for that, and it earns its place in the planning.

What it cannot do is rank teaching. Search results are ordered by relevance signals and local prominence, neither of which knows whether a tutor has taught Higher Level Chemistry through more than one session or has ever marked an IGCSE Extended paper against the published scheme. A well-optimised listing from a centre two streets away outranks a specialist in another emirate every time, and the parent reading it has no way to see the difference from the result page.

The practical consequence is that the near-me search should be step one of two. Step one establishes the local facts. Step two is a conversation in which you ask three specific questions: which programme and level has this person taught, which component of it, and how recently. Those three answers do more work than any map. The table sets out which of the two steps each piece of information belongs to. Treat anything in the right-hand column as something you have to ask for, because no listing, review count or map pin will volunteer it, and a parent who asks gets a straight answer far more often than a parent who assumes.

IB or IGCSE: the decision Year 11 in this district actually faces

Families in Al Mushrif are unusually likely to have a real choice at sixteen, because the schools within reach offer the Diploma and A Levels in roughly equal measure. That makes the Year 11 decision a genuine one rather than an administrative default, and it is made with less information than it deserves. The usual framing, that the Diploma is broader and A Levels are deeper, is true and almost useless on its own.

The more useful framing is workload shape. The Diploma spreads six subjects plus three core components across two years with internally set deadlines that land continuously. A Levels concentrate three or four subjects into terminal papers with fewer internal deadlines. A student who manages their own time well and dislikes being examined on everything at once is better served by the Diploma. A student who works in intense bursts and wants to drop subjects they are weak in is better served by the linear route.

Grades at IGCSE then act as the filter. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is hard to recommend to a student who found Extended maths a struggle, and that conversation is far better had in March of Year 11 than in October of Year 12, when the option form has already been signed and the first internal assessment is due. If one block of tutoring is worth buying in this district, it is often the diagnostic one that informs this choice rather than the remedial one that follows it.

Five regulators, one country, and the report you are reading

Parents in Al Mushrif read inspection reports written by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi. Families who move within the UAE often assume the report format travels with them, and it does not. Dubai schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education there.

Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge, which also regulates private education in that emirate, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Those five bodies are the complete map. It is worth knowing because the Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not only inspection sits with the emirate regulator there.

None of this makes any tutoring platform approved by anybody. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Sharjah authority, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and any provider implying otherwise should be asked to show the permit number. A tutoring operation with premises and staff needs an educational services permit of its own, which is a specific document issued to training institutes. Explaining a regulator is useful. Borrowing it as a badge is not.

The honest answer about who is available, and when

  • Mainstream Diploma and IGCSE subjects: matched within days in term time
  • Niche Higher Level courses and core components: slower, and we say by how much
  • Pre-series weeks: the queue lengthens, so book the diagnostic early
  • A disclosed limit is more useful to a family than an undisclosed mismatch

Coverage is not uniform and pretending otherwise is the standard failure of this market. Mainstream Diploma subjects and IGCSE maths and sciences are matched within days in term time. Smaller Higher Level courses, Theory of Knowledge specialists and the less-entered IGCSE options take longer, and in the weeks before a series the queue for exam-year support lengthens for everybody. None of this is a secret worth keeping from a parent who is trying to plan.

When the right person is not free, the alternatives are better than a poor substitute. A later weekday slot with the correct tutor usually beats an immediate slot with the wrong one. A single diagnostic session on a marked paper gives the student a ranked list they can work through alone, which is genuinely useful and cheap. A waiting list with a date on it lets a family make other arrangements. A tutor from an adjacent specialism, named as such before booking, is sometimes the right call and should always be the parent's decision.

What we will not do is take a booking and let the mismatch surface in session two. That pattern is why so many families in this district describe a first tutor who was pleasant and changed nothing. Pleasantness is not the variable. Whether the person can look at a marked paper and name, in one sentence, the three things costing seven marks is the variable, and if nobody who can do that is free this week, the useful answer is to say so.

05

Academic honesty: what a tutor may and may not touch

  • Teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own draft: inside the rules
  • Writing, rewriting or finishing a draft for the student: outside them
  • The school authenticates the work, so the student carries the risk
  • Any provider selling completed coursework should be ruled out immediately

This matters more on the IB side than almost anywhere else in school education, because so much of the Diploma grade is work the student submits as their own. The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, every internal assessment, and the Middle Years Programme personal project are all authenticated by the school. A tutor who crosses the line does not get caught instead of the student; the student carries the consequence, and it can reach the whole diploma.

The boundary is workable and clear. A tutor may teach the skills a component needs, explain the published criteria, interrogate a research question until it is answerable, demonstrate referencing conventions, and read a draft the student has written and say where it does not yet meet the criterion. A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure in their own words, supply paragraphs, invent data, or edit a draft to completion. The test is whether the words and the thinking remain the candidate's.

This is also a live commercial issue in this market. At least one page competing for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright. That is not an alternative service with a different risk profile; it is a malpractice trigger with the student's qualification attached. If a provider offers to produce assessed work, that is the end of the conversation. We would rather lose the enquiry than be in that business, and we say so on the page rather than in the small print.

06

What tuition costs in this market, read from the monthly line down

Most families decide on the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, so start there. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Published packages in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour home visits. Those figures belong to the providers who published them.

The hourly bands behind those monthlies are worth seeing, because they explain the spread. Budget online tuition runs about AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online is around AED 150 to 300; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Named specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-branded tuition at AED 500 to 650, where BartyED quotes AED 650.

Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two of the rest quote US dollars at families who transact in dirhams. That is the gap this table fills. It is a market picture rather than an IB Gram price list: our arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and the rate is confirmed in the match conversation, which is the honest way to quote something that depends on subject, level and frequency.

Timing a session into a real Al Mushrif week

  • Count the mandatory UAE subjects' homework when you plan the slot
  • The awkward hour that survives beats the convenient hour that collapses
  • Ramadan sessions can move to post-iftar timing and back
  • Travel does not break the arrangement, because the lesson follows the student

The slot is where good intentions die. A household in this district typically has a school day finishing between two and three, a bus or car run of fifteen to forty minutes depending on which campus, and then the mandatory UAE subjects' homework alongside everything else, because federal rules require private schools to teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies regardless of the international curriculum they are licensed for. That is real timetable space, and it is often invisible in a parent's planning.

Add activities. Swimming, football and music in Abu Dhabi tend to run early evening, which is exactly when tutoring wants to happen. The result is that the only genuinely free hour in many weeks is later than a parent would choose or at the weekend. Choosing the awkward hour at the start is better than choosing the convenient one and rescheduling it twice before it quietly stops. An online slot survives this better than a travelling tutor does, because a six-thirty start costs nobody a drive.

Ramadan reshapes the week again, and it moves earlier each year. School hours shorten, families eat late, and the useful tutoring window often sits after iftar rather than in the afternoon. Sessions can move to post-iftar timing for the month and back afterwards, and planning that in advance is better than losing four weeks of momentum. Families who travel over Eid or the summer can keep the same tutor across time zones, which is the one scheduling advantage online delivery has outright.

08

Equivalency, and why tutoring is not part of it

  • British track: five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at E or grade 3 as published
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from that count of five
  • American track: SAT Math 450, plus IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing
  • No IB points figure is published here, because none has been read on the Ministry's own site

Ministry of Education equivalency is the process by which a UAE authority recognises a foreign school certificate, and it is a step families here meet when applying to UAE universities. On the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

On the American track the published position is different again: English proficiency via a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in the TOEFL internet-based test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test. For the IB there is no points threshold any page should publish without reading it on the Ministry's own site, and this one does not. At least one page ranking for these searches states that six IGCSE subjects are required; the sourced figure is five.

Two cautions follow. First, equivalency is a regulatory process run by the authority, not a service a tutoring platform performs, submits or guarantees, and this page describes it only so a parent knows what to ask. Second, tutoring is not a requirement of equivalency, university admission or school progression, and any provider framing it that way is manufacturing urgency. Verify every requirement with the Ministry before you act on it; wording changes and a page is only as current as its last review.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Mushrif

A near-me search in Al Mushrif returns results across half the island, so it is worth knowing how the surrounding districts differ in practice. Each note is about timetables and travel rather than scenery.

Al Karamah

Directly adjacent and effectively the same school catchment. A tutor working with a Karamah student recognises the same scheme of work and the same mock timing, which is why these two districts are treated as one planning unit.

Al Nahyan

North-east of Al Mushrif behind the Khalifa bin Zayed corridor. Denser housing, more apartments, and a student population spread across more curricula, so subject requests here are less concentrated than in the villa districts.

Al Bateen

On the western shore, a short run from Al Mushrif. Several of the island's Diploma cohorts sit here, which makes Al Bateen the district whose Higher Level requests most resemble this one's.

Al Zahiyah

The older downtown grid near Abu Dhabi Mall. Flats rather than villas, so study space is tighter and a fixed online slot with a door that closes is worth more than a longer session at the kitchen table.

Saadiyat Island

Fifteen minutes out, longer at pickup. Saadiyat schools finish late and run substantial co-curricular programmes, so weekday sessions for students there start at six in practice rather than four.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Across the Khaleej Al Arabi towards the airport. The round trip in term-time traffic is the clearest practical argument in this emirate for taking the lesson online rather than paying a travel premium.

Al Reem Island

A young population with most school-age children in primary and lower secondary, so the Diploma cohort is small and the demand concentrates on MYP and early IGCSE foundations.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mushrif

The central island, including Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

The schools nearest this district cover both routes between them, which is why a household here can easily have one child on IGCSE and another on the Diploma. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; no affiliation with any of them is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which programme, not which year

Diploma, Middle Years Programme or IGCSE, then the level and the component. A Higher Level internal assessment and an Extended Paper 4 are different jobs needing different people, and the year group alone does not distinguish them. One sentence here saves a week of mismatching.

  2. 02

Send one marked piece of work

A mock paper, a criterion-marked task or a draft with teacher comments. A specialist reading a marked piece tells you more in twenty minutes than any amount of description, because the marks show where the loss is rather than where it feels like it is.

  3. 03

Take the free trial with that work open

The trial session is at no charge and is spent on the diagnostic rather than on introductions. You should finish it with a short, ranked list of what is costing the most marks, and that list is yours to use whether or not you continue with us.

  4. 04

Fix the slot against the real week

Include the school finish, the bus run, the mandatory UAE subjects and the activity that owns a weekday evening. Then choose the hour that survives all of them. Ramadan timing is agreed in advance rather than improvised when the month arrives.

  5. 05

    Review when new evidence arrives

A mock, a criterion mark or a teacher comment is better evidence than four weeks of session impressions. The topic sequence is revised when one lands, and if the error log has flattened, fewer sessions are the honest recommendation and we will make it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the component, not the map

The first question is which programme, level and component a tutor has taught and how recently. Distance from Al Mushrif is not a criterion, because online delivery makes it irrelevant, and that is what allows a specialist rather than a neighbour to take the lesson.

Both boards handled by one process

A household with a Year 11 on IGCSE and a Year 13 on the Diploma does not need two platforms. The matching logic is the same in both cases: name the component, read the marked work, find the person who has taught it recently.

The delivery model said once, plainly

Lessons for this district are online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE, because that service exists only in India. Stating it on the first screen is better than letting a parent find out at booking.

Figures with sources attached

Every AED number here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the market framing kept separate from our own arrangement. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, which is the gap worth closing.

The honesty line held in public

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. Nobody here produces an essay, an internal assessment or a personal project. Competing pages sell exactly that, and saying no to it on the page is more useful than saying it in terms and conditions.

Regulators explained, not borrowed

ADEK, the Ministry of Education and MoHRE are described here because knowing what each does helps a parent ask better questions. IB Gram claims no approval or accreditation from any of them, and any provider that does should be asked for the document.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mushrif: your questions answered

Does a near-me search actually find the best tutor in Al Mushrif?+

It finds the closest and the best-marketed, which are not the same thing. Search ranking knows about local prominence and relevance signals; it does not know whether a tutor has taught Higher Level Chemistry or marked an IGCSE Extended paper to the published scheme. Use the search for local facts, such as which schools the district feeds and when the school day ends, then ask three direct questions of any shortlist: which programme and level, which component, and how recently. Those answers decide the outcome.

Can one tutor cover both my IGCSE child and my Diploma child?+

Sometimes, within one subject family, and usually it is better not to. The two routes assess differently: IGCSE is terminal papers against a mark scheme, while the Diploma mixes examinations with internally assessed work judged on published criteria. A tutor fluent in both for the same subject does exist and is uncommon. For a household with children on each route, two matched specialists generally outperform one generalist, and the matching process is identical for both, so arranging it is no more work.

Which programme should my child take after Year 11 in Abu Dhabi?+

Decide on workload shape rather than prestige. The Diploma runs six subjects plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and service across two years with internal deadlines landing continuously. The linear route concentrates three or four subjects into terminal papers and allows a weak subject to be dropped after the first year. Self-managing students who dislike being examined on everything at once tend to prefer the Diploma. Have the conversation in March of Year 11, with IGCSE grades in hand, rather than in October of Year 12.

Who regulates my child's school if we move from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah?+

A different body with a wider remit. Abu Dhabi schools sit under ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education there and also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Dubai has the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its own Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education covers Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The report format and the fee approval route both change.

Is IB Gram approved by ADEK or by the IB?+

No, and no tutoring platform should imply that it is. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Those bodies are described on this page because understanding them helps a parent ask better questions. A tutoring operation with premises and staff needs an educational services permit of its own, which is a specific document with a number. If a provider claims regulator approval, ask to see it.

How far in advance should we arrange Diploma support in this area?+

Earlier than most families do. Mainstream Diploma subjects are matched within days during term time, but the queue for exam-year support lengthens in the weeks before a sitting, and the smaller Higher Level courses and core specialists are thinner year round. The practical advice is to book the diagnostic session in the autumn term rather than the remedial block in the spring. A ranked list of where marks are going is useful in October and close to useless three weeks before a paper.

Where is the line between Extended Essay coaching and writing it for my child?+

Yes, and the line is clear. A tutor can interrogate the research question until it is answerable, explain the published criteria, teach referencing conventions, and read a draft the student has written and say where it falls short of a criterion. A tutor cannot write, rewrite, restructure in their own words, supply paragraphs or edit a draft to completion. The school authenticates the work, so the student carries any consequence. Any provider offering to produce the essay should be ruled out on that basis alone.

What does an online IB or IGCSE tutor cost a month in Abu Dhabi?+

Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Published market packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are the providers' own figures rather than ours. IB Gram starts with a free trial lesson and confirms the rate in the match conversation, because it depends on subject, level and how often you want to meet.

My daughter is in the Middle Years Programme and the marks make no sense. Why?+

Because they are criterion marks, not percentages. Each subject is assessed against four criteria, each marked out of eight, and a task usually assesses only one or two of them. A strong piece of work can score modestly if it answers a different criterion from the one being marked. Ask the school for the subject's criteria rubric, which is rarely handed out unprompted. Most of the early progress in Middle Years tutoring comes from teaching a student to read the task sheet and write to the criterion in front of them.

Does the tutor hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit?+

It is the right question to ask anybody, including us. The permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day turnaround. Anyone tutoring privately without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat quoted amounts with caution.

Can my son's own subject teacher tutor him privately after school?+

In Abu Dhabi, you should assume not. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates that private and charter school staff may not provide paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also restricts serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the current wording with ADEK before relying on it. There is also a practical reason to look elsewhere: the person who marks the coursework and sets the mocks should not also be paid to prepare the student for them.

When do IGCSE and IB exams happen for a candidate based in the UAE?+

IGCSE candidates here sit the June and November series. Cambridge offers its February/March series to India only, so an Indian revision site's deadlines do not apply. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session, and this page publishes no IB dates because the IB's own site blocks automated verification. Take any date you plan around from the board's live timetable or from your school's IB coordinator, and confirm the Cambridge zone with the exams officer.

How does Ramadan change the tutoring schedule here?+

School hours shorten, family routines move later, and the useful study window often sits after iftar rather than in the afternoon. The month also moves earlier in the calendar each year, so it lands at a different point in the academic cycle each time. Sessions can shift to post-iftar timing for the month and return afterwards, which keeps momentum instead of losing four weeks. Agree the change before the month begins; improvising it in the first week is how a block of sessions quietly stops.

Is an online session really equivalent to a tutor in the room?+

For secondary students working on papers and drafts, it holds up well, because the gain from choosing the right specialist is larger than the loss from the screen. Both people see the same document, working is written live on a shared whiteboard, and a written note follows each session. Physical presence matters most for much younger children who need an adult managing attention. For Diploma and IGCSE work the binding constraint is the tutor's grasp of the criteria and the mark scheme.

What do we do if the first Al Mushrif match turns out to be wrong?+

Say so early rather than giving it a term. The usual sign is that sessions feel pleasant and nothing in the marks moves, which generally means the tutor is supervising rather than diagnosing. A good match produces a specific, ranked account of where marks are being lost within the first two sessions. If that has not happened, a change is reasonable and the diagnostic does not need repeating from scratch, because the marked work and the error log carry over to the new tutor.

Use the search for the place, and a conversation for the teaching

The near-me search has done its job once you know which schools Al Mushrif feeds and when the school day ends. The rest is a conversation: which programme, which level, which component, and how recently the tutor has taught it. Send one marked piece of work, take the free trial with it open, and finish that session with a ranked list of where the marks are going. Lessons run online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to the Abu Dhabi school week and shifted after iftar during Ramadan. If the right specialist is not free, we will tell you and give you a date.
