IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Muroor

Most families looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Muroor start at the bottom of the price range and work up, which is sensible. This page goes in that order too: what the cheapest option includes, what disappears at each step up, how many subjects a budget can genuinely support, and when sharing a tutor works. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Al Muroor

Start at the bottom of the market and work upwards

Published rates for IGCSE tuition in the UAE span more than a factor of ten, and most families begin at the cheap end because that is the rational place to begin. The useful question is therefore not what the best tuition costs but what is actually missing from the cheapest option, and whether what is missing matters for your particular child. Sometimes it does not, and a page that cannot say so is advertising.

Al Muroor is a residential district on Abu Dhabi island, strung along Muroor Road between the Airport Road corridor and the central districts. Its position matters for cost in one specific way: it is central, so the travel loading on a visiting tutor is smaller here than from the mainland communities. Published in-home rates in the emirate still run from AED 180 to 350 an hour in survey data and from AED 200 to 500 among independent home tutors, read in October 2026, but the journey component of that is shorter from a central island address than from Al Shamkha or Baniyas.

The structure of this page is the price ladder. At the bottom, budget online tutoring and university-student tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. In the middle, a qualified subject tutor teaching online is published at AED 150 to 300. Above that, IGCSE and IB specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and more, and a premium named tutor has been advertised at AED 650. Each step up adds something specific, and knowing what it adds is the whole of the purchasing decision.

The second question this page answers is how many subjects a household can genuinely support, which is where most of the waste in this market occurs. The arithmetic is unforgiving: tuition works through the marked written practice done between lessons, and a student's free evenings do not multiply when subjects are added. By the third or fourth subject the lessons are the only work happening, nothing consolidates, and the household is paying four times as much for less than one properly funded subject would deliver.

Delivery, stated plainly: IB Gram does not offer home visits in Al Muroor or anywhere in the UAE, because home visiting is a service we run only in India. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. From a central island district the cost argument for that is weaker than from the mainland and the choice argument is just as strong: requiring a specialist in a specific specification to also drive here at five in the afternoon reduces an already small pool.

Every AED figure on this page belongs to the market, is attributed to a named published source and was read in October 2026. None is IB Gram's price list. On the VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE we state no position, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority and we would rather say so than publish something unsourced.

At a glance

  • Published IGCSE tuition rates in the UAE span more than a factor of ten
  • What each step up the ladder adds is specific and knowable before you pay
  • Funding four subjects thinly delivers less than funding one properly, and costs four times as much
  • The travel loading on a visiting tutor is smaller from a central island district
  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video, not a tutor travelling to Al Muroor
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family funds differs by stage, and so does what the money can still achieve. These are the stages where an Al Muroor household makes the spending decision.

Y9Ages 11-14

Years 7 to 9, before IGCSE begins

Number, algebra, geometry and data handling across mathematics, with the sciences and languages building the terminology that later courses assume. The quiet work of these years is fluency, which is built by short frequent practice rather than by teaching.

This is the cheapest effective window in the whole British curriculum and the least used. Abu Dhabi schools form their tier view during Year 9, so a term of work at this point can change which tier a school enters a student for, and the tier sets the grade ceiling for the following two years.

Y10Ages 14-15

IGCSE Year 10

The content year across all subjects, where the bulk of each syllabus is taught and the tier is confirmed. A student falling behind here compounds, because IGCSE courses assume earlier topics rather than revisiting them.

The internal assessments schools run at the end of Year 10 are the best diagnostic evidence available before the final year, and in most Abu Dhabi schools they are marked by the subject teacher against the real scheme. They are therefore worth reading rather than filing, and reading them is free.

Y11Ages 15-16

IGCSE Year 11

Syllabus completion, mocks, the final entry and the papers. Spending in this year reliably buys examination technique: command-term discipline, rounding accuracy, timing and question selection. It does not rebuild underlying fluency, because the week no longer contains the practice volume.

The school's final entry deadline sits months before the papers and fixes the tier at that point. An Al Muroor parent should ask for that date early in Year 11 and treat it rather than the examination as the real deadline for any tiering conversation.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS, A Level and Diploma routes afterwards

Where the IGCSE tier decision lands. Both the A Level and IB Diploma routes generally assume Extended or Higher content behind them, particularly in mathematics and the sciences, so a Core or Foundation entry narrows post-16 options without any single conversation saying so.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Verify current requirements officially.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These notes are about value per hour rather than content: where the money goes furthest in each subject, which is what a household rationing a budget needs to know.

Mathematics

0580, 0607, 4MA1, all tiers

Best value where the fault is procedural: frequency density, scale factors, rounding discipline, command terms. Each is a short named repair worth real marks. Poorest value in Year 11 where the fault is fluency, because the hours required no longer exist in the week.

Chemistry

0620, 4CH1, Core and Extended

Good value when the hour produces marked written answers rather than explanation. Marks sit in multi-step calculation chains and in explanations that name the particles responsible rather than describing an observation.

Physics

0625, 4PH1, Core and Extended

Good value with one caveat that saves money: a physics difficulty is often an algebra difficulty. A tutor who establishes that before teaching physics can save a family a whole term of paying for the wrong subject.

Biology

0610, 4BI1, Core and Extended

Value depends entirely on method rather than on the tutor. The subject responds to answers written and marked against the scheme and barely at all to explanation, so an articulate tutor who does not mark is poor value here.

First Language English

0500, 4EA1

High value where the hour is spent on feedback on the student's own writing, low value where it is spent on technique in the abstract. Marks go to unsupported assertion in reading answers and to flat sentence structure in composition.

English as a Second Language

0510

A different qualification from First Language English, with its own listening and speaking components. A student placed in the wrong one loses marks for reasons unrelated to their English, and checking which applies costs nothing.

Economics and Business Studies

0455, 0450, 4EC1, 4BS1

Good value because the faults are structural and correctable: definitions offered where analysis was asked for, diagrams drawn imprecisely, evaluation missing. Few sessions, visible change in marked work.

The science practical component

All science specifications

Strong value and almost never bought, because families do not realise practical skills are examined in writing. Method descriptions, graph scales and error questions are writing skills applied to science, and four marked attempts changes them.

Additional Mathematics 0606

Extended only

Rarely available as a group class anywhere in the emirate because the cohort is too small, so one-to-one is the only format in which it can be bought. The difficulty is algebraic stamina rather than the new calculus content.

A subject already at the top of its range

Any

No value, and we will say so. A provider who accepts every subject a parent offers is not helping them ration a budget; they are billing it. The question worth asking is which subject a provider would refuse.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements at three price points, listed cheapest first. The cheapest is frequently the right one, which is not the usual direction of a page about tuition.

Bounded block on one diagnosed fault

Three to five sessions aimed at a named procedural fault, a command-term habit or the science practical paper. At published specialist rates that is a few hundred to a couple of thousand dirhams in total, with a defined end point and nothing rolling on afterwards.

  • One named target, a fixed number of sessions
  • Diagnostic set before, repeat set afterwards
  • No continuation by default when the block closes

One subject weekly, with marking included

The standard arrangement where the diagnosis is a content gap or fluency problem that cannot be compressed. Weekly lessons, written work set and returned marked against the published scheme, short daily practice, and a review date with a measure attached.

  • Matched to the exact syllabus code and tier
  • Marked work rather than ticked work
  • A review judged on marked evidence at a fixed date

A paired arrangement for two students on the same specification

Two students at the same tier on the same code, taught together at a reduced rate per student. It works in specific conditions and fails in others, and we set both out honestly rather than selling it as a saving in all cases.

  • Same syllabus code and tier, and broadly similar standing
  • Written work still set and marked individually
  • Reviewed after a month, with a route back to one-to-one

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Muroor

01

The price ladder, and what disappears at each step down

Working upwards from the cheapest option is the honest way to present this market, because that is how families actually shop and because the interesting information is what each step adds. The figures are published rates read in October 2026, attributed in the table, and none of them is our price list.

At the bottom, budget online tutoring and university-student tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. What that buys is an hour of company and supervision while a student works through material they have already been set. For a student who is coping and lacks routine, that is a reasonable purchase and genuinely useful. What is absent is any marking of written work against a published scheme, and any diagnosis, because neither is possible at that price point.

The middle band, AED 150 to 300 an hour on published agency rate pages, adds the two things the bottom lacks: a tutor who teaches the specification rather than following the homework, and written work marked between sessions. That marking is the mechanism by which a grade moves, which is why this band rather than the one below it is the sensible default for a student who is losing marks rather than merely struggling with routine.

Above that, IGCSE and IB specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and more, and the premium buys judgement rather than hours: which tier to push for, which topics to abandon, which papers to sit, what the mark scheme rewards and where this particular script is leaking marks. A premium named tutor has been advertised at AED 650 an hour. The table sets out each rung with what is present and what is absent, which is the comparison families are never shown.

02

What a budget tutor genuinely cannot do

This needs saying precisely rather than dismissively, because budget tutoring is not a scam and for some students it is the right purchase. What it cannot do is structural rather than a matter of effort, and knowing the boundary prevents a family from buying a year of the wrong thing.

It cannot mark written work against a published mark scheme, because that takes time outside the lesson and nobody at AED 45 to 150 an hour is being paid for time outside the lesson. This is the single most consequential absence, since marking is the mechanism by which lost marks become visible and then stop recurring. A student whose work is never marked against a real scheme will continue to lose the same marks in the same way, politely and indefinitely.

It cannot diagnose at specification level, because that requires having taught the exact code and read its mark schemes. A budget tutor can see that a student is struggling with trigonometry. They are unlikely to see that the student is losing marks because three-dimensional questions are being attempted without redrawing the triangle, or that answers are being given as decimals where exact form was demanded. Those are the observations that change a grade and they come from familiarity with the instrument.

And it cannot advise on tier, because that requires knowing the grade ranges, the Extended-only content and what the school is likely to be seeing in its internal data. Tier is the highest-stakes decision in IGCSE and it is fixed at an entry deadline months before the papers. A family paying at the bottom of the market and expecting tier advice is expecting something that is not in the product, and will usually not be told so.

03

How many subjects can a budget actually support?

This is the decision that determines whether money produces anything, and the arithmetic is more rigid than families expect. Tuition does not work through the lesson. It works through the marked written practice done between lessons, and that practice has to fit into a student's existing week alongside school homework in eight or nine subjects and the mandatory UAE subjects.

Run the numbers. A student has perhaps five or six usable weekday evenings' worth of study capacity, most of which is already committed to school work. One tuition subject adds perhaps two hours of practice a week, which fits. Two subjects add four, which is tight and workable in an examination year. Three add six, at which point either the school's own homework suffers or the tuition practice does, and in practice it is the tuition practice because nobody checks it. By four subjects the lessons continue and the practice has stopped entirely.

What that produces is an expensive illusion. The lessons happen, the tutors are competent, the student attends, and nothing consolidates, because consolidation happens in the practice rather than in the hour. The family then concludes that tutoring does not work, which is a reasonable conclusion from their evidence and the wrong general one. The failure was the allocation, not the teaching.

The table lays the arithmetic out, including the two rows that matter most: one subject plus a free intervention class, which is often the best value configuration available, and the row where the honest answer is to spend nothing and use the free options. A provider willing to put those rows in a table is giving you something you can act on; a provider recommending four subjects on a first phone call has told you how they make decisions about somebody else's money.

04

Group class economics: why it is cheap and when it works

A group class at a tuition centre is the cheapest paid option per student, and the reason is simple division: one teacher's hour across a room of students. That is a genuine efficiency rather than a trick, and it means a group class can deliver teaching at a fraction of the one-to-one price. What division cannot produce is individual attention, and the question is whether your child's fault needs it.

The faults a group class can genuinely repair are the ones that are purely about content being unknown. If nobody has shown a student how frequency density works, a competent teacher showing a room how frequency density works fixes it for everyone present, including your child. Several of the highest-yield IGCSE repairs fall into this category, which is why a group class is not automatically poor value.

The faults it cannot repair are those requiring individually marked practice. Weak algebraic fluency needs dozens of short exercises with errors identified one at a time, and a teacher with fifteen students cannot provide that. Nor can a group class diagnose: a room is taught a scheme of work pitched at a typical candidate, and your child's particular pattern of lost marks is invisible within it. And a student who will not ask a question in front of peers gets an hour of watching others learn, which is the worst value in this entire market regardless of price.

The table sets out the cost drivers side by side. The practical sequence for an Al Muroor family is to ask the centre which syllabus code the class is pitched at, because a generic IGCSE class usually targets the most common specification and not necessarily your child's, and to ask whether written work is marked individually. If the answers are vague on both, you are buying content delivery rather than tuition, which is fine as long as content delivery is what you need.

The Year 9 discount nobody advertises

There is a genuine discount available in this market and it is not a price promotion. It is timing. The same money spent in Year 9 or early Year 10 buys substantially more than it does in the final term of Year 11, and the reason is mechanical rather than motivational.

Algebraic fluency, terminology volume and written-answer habits are all built by short frequent practice over months. In Year 9 a student has the weekly capacity for that practice, because they are not simultaneously revising eight subjects for a terminal series. A term of weekly work at that point can change the tier a school enters a student for, and the tier sets the grade ceiling for two years. No amount of spending in Year 11 recovers a capped entry, because the entry is an administrative fact submitted months before the papers.

Set against that, spending in the final term buys examination technique: command-term discipline, rounding accuracy, timing, question selection, and the specific requirements of each paper. Those are real marks and frequently a double-digit swing on a paper where the content is known. They are also, in cost terms, a smaller and better-defined purchase: a bounded block rather than a term. So both ends of the course have a sensible spend attached; it is the middle, buying a vague weekly arrangement in Year 11 term one for a problem nobody has diagnosed, that wastes the most.

The practical instruction for an Al Muroor parent with a Year 9 child is to ask the school two questions now: which tier the department currently expects to enter your child for, and when the final entry is submitted. Those two answers define what is still changeable and for how long. They cost nothing and no tutoring page can substitute for them.

06

Sharing a tutor: pairs, siblings and what breaks

Families often ask whether two students can share a tutor to halve the cost, and the honest answer is that it works in narrow conditions and fails outside them. It is worth setting out both, because a provider that sells pairs indiscriminately is selling a saving that will not materialise.

It works when two students are on the same syllabus code at the same tier, at broadly similar standing, with similar faults, and when both are comfortable working in front of each other. Two Extended 0580 students losing marks to the same procedural errors can be taught together efficiently, with written work still set and marked individually, which is the condition that keeps it real tuition rather than a small class.

It fails in several predictable ways. Different codes or tiers make the teaching diverge immediately, and one student receives content their paper will not test. A significant gap in standing means the pace suits one and loses the other, which is the group-class problem reproduced at a higher price per student. And a reticent student paired with a confident one often says less than they would in a class of fifteen, because the exposure is sharper.

Siblings are a specific case and usually the worst one. Two children at different stages have different needs by definition, and the family dynamic in a shared lesson tends to be unhelpful in ways neither parent nor tutor can easily manage. Where a household has two children needing support, the arrangement that works is consecutive individual slots on the same evening with a different specialist each, which concentrates the disruption without diluting either match. It costs more, and we would rather say so than sell a pair that quietly serves neither child.

07

Al Muroor: a central district and a smaller loading

Most cost pages for this market treat geography as irrelevant. It is not, and from Al Muroor the effect runs in the family's favour relative to the outer communities, which is worth stating since the rest of this page is about spending less.

The journey component in a visiting tutor's rate depends on the round trip and the traffic risk. From a central island district those are both smaller than from Al Shamkha, Baniyas or Hydra Village, so a visiting arrangement here sits lower in the published AED 180 to 500 band than it would further out. The island's internal afternoon traffic is still real, and the Airport Road corridor in particular is slow, so the risk component does not vanish.

What does not change with geography is the choice effect. Requiring a tutor to be physically present in Al Muroor at five in the afternoon narrows the available set to those willing to make that trip at that hour, and for a scarcer specification — Cambridge 0607, Additional Mathematics 0606, a Pearson science code — the narrowed set is frequently empty. A family facing an empty set substitutes a generalist, and a generalist at specialist prices is the worst transaction in this market.

So the honest summary for a central island household is this: the cost argument for online delivery is weaker here than it is from the mainland, and the specification argument is exactly as strong. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Al Muroor or anywhere in the UAE because home visiting is a service we run only in India, and from this district the case rests on matching the code rather than on saving the journey.

08

The permit, our status and the claims we will not make

Because this page is about money, the permit position is worth stating precisely: the permit is free, so no part of a rate should be attributed to it. The UAE private tuition work permit is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, with the ministry's own service page listing no fee and a two working day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen.

Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published and press reporting states that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, so a specific dirham figure quoted as the penalty is invention — and a useful test of whether the rest of a provider's claims are sourced. In Abu Dhabi, press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates school staff may not take paid private tutoring work with students enrolled at their own school.

An operation with premises needs a different permit from the emirate regulator; in Dubai that is an educational services permit for a training institute issued by KHDA. IB Gram holds none because it has no premises: it is an independent online matching platform with no office, centre or branch in the UAE, and no accreditation, licence, approval or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB. Describing a tutoring service as approved by one of those bodies without a document to show is the most dangerous sentence available in this market.

On claims: we publish no star rating, review count or satisfaction statistic, because stating one honestly requires the sample size, the date and the method alongside it. Every AED figure on this page is attributed and dated October 2026 and none is our price list. We decline to produce assessed work of any kind, to supply answers for live assessed tasks, or to reproduce board material, which belongs to Cambridge and Pearson and is published on their own sites. No tutor can promise a grade or a grade improvement, and any provider offering one should be treated with real scepticism.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Muroor

Al Muroor is central, which gives it the shortest journeys of the districts below and therefore the smallest travel loading on any visiting tutor's rate.

Al Mushrif

A short drive south with several long-established schools, and the shortest journey most Al Muroor households make. Visiting rates here carry the smallest loading in the emirate.

Al Nahyan

Immediately adjacent, similar mid-rise apartment living, and the same price comparisons. Families in the two districts routinely compare quotes and find them nearly identical.

Al Bateen

West across the island with established provision. Quick in the morning and slow on the return, which is the asymmetry that adds to a visiting tutor's real hour.

the Corniche

North, dense, with the shortest school runs in the emirate and the most weekday evening capacity for a second session.

Khalifa City

The mainland cluster across the bridges. Al Muroor students travelling there daily have a materially later evening and therefore a later workable session.

Saadiyat Island

North, with a higher fee base and an IB-heavy profile. The same rationing question arrives there with larger numbers attached to it.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Muroor

Abu Dhabi island

The schools within short reach of Al Muroor, running Cambridge and Pearson specifications between them. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; the list is context for parents comparing provision, not a claim of any relationship.

  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Sheikh Zayed Private Academy
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Al Mamoura Academy
  • Abu Dhabi Indian School

The mainland corridor

Where some Al Muroor families travel, usually for a specific programme or a place. Earlier finishes, longer journeys, and a larger travel loading on any visiting tutor coming from the island.

  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • Emirates National School
  • The Sheffield Private School
  • Al Ittihad National Private School

Named schools appear as ecosystem context for Al Muroor parents comparing provision; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the two free questions first

Which tier the department currently expects to enter your child for, and when the final entry is submitted. Those two answers define what is still changeable and for how long, they cost nothing, and no tutoring page can substitute for them.

  2. 02

    Decide which rung you need

Company and routine is the bottom of the ladder. Teaching plus marked work is the middle. Tier and paper judgement is the top. Read the last marked script to see which your child's fault actually requires, rather than choosing by price.

  3. 03

    Fund one subject, not four

A student has roughly two hours a week of spare practice capacity. One subject fits it, two is tight in an examination year, and by four the practice has stopped and only attendance remains. Start with one and review it.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson with the conditions stated

One live video lesson. No card required, no block commitment afterwards, nothing renewing automatically. If we think the honest answer is the school's free support class rather than a purchase, we will say so after reading the script.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We describe the cheap option fairly

Budget tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour buys company and routine, which some students genuinely need. What it cannot do is mark against a scheme or diagnose at specification level, and we say which rather than dismissing it.

The subject arithmetic is published

One subject fits a student's spare practice capacity; four does not. A provider who takes every subject offered is not helping a family ration a budget, and the question worth asking any of them is which subject they would refuse.

Group classes assessed on their merits

They repair content nobody has taught and cannot repair fluency or diagnose. For several high-yield IGCSE faults they are good value, and we would rather say so than pretend one-to-one is always the answer.

Pairs sold only where they work

Same code, same tier, similar standing, both comfortable, with written work still marked individually. Siblings at different stages are the case that fails most often, and we recommend consecutive individual slots instead.

The timing discount explained

The same money buys more in Year 9 than in the final term of Year 11, because fluency needs months of practice capacity that an examination year does not contain. That is the only real discount in this market.

Figures sourced, status stated, permit free

Every AED band is attributed and dated October 2026 and none is our price list. The MoHRE permit is free, so no part of a rate should be attributed to it, and we hold no regulator accreditation of any kind.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Muroor: your questions answered

What is the cheapest IGCSE tuition available in Abu Dhabi?+

Budget online tutoring and university-student tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour on published rate cards read in October 2026, and a tuition centre group class costs less again per student because one teacher's hour is divided across a room. Cheaper still, and genuinely effective for some faults, is the school's own intervention class, which is usually free and taught by somebody who knows the specification and has seen your child's work.

What does a budget tutor not do for an Al Muroor student?+

Two things, both structural rather than a matter of effort. They cannot mark written work against a published mark scheme, because nobody at that price is paid for time outside the lesson, and marking is the mechanism by which lost marks become visible and stop recurring. And they cannot diagnose at specification level, because that requires having taught the exact code and read its mark schemes. They also cannot advise on tier, which is the highest-stakes IGCSE decision.

How many subjects should we fund for one child?+

One, then review. A student has perhaps two hours a week of spare practice capacity once school homework and the mandatory UAE subjects are accounted for. One tuition subject fits that. Two is tight and defensible in an examination year if both are genuinely at risk. By three the practice thins in all of them, and by four the lessons continue while the practice has stopped entirely, which is four times the cost for less than one subject's effect.

Is a tuition centre group class worth the money?+

For some faults, genuinely yes. A group class delivers teaching, so if nobody has shown your child how a particular rule works, a competent teacher showing the room fixes it. Several of the highest-yield IGCSE repairs are exactly that. It cannot repair weak algebraic fluency, which needs individually marked practice, and it cannot diagnose. Ask which syllabus code the class is pitched at, because a generic class targets the most common specification.

Can two students share an IGCSE tutor to halve the cost?+

It works in narrow conditions: the same syllabus code at the same tier, broadly similar standing, similar faults, and both students comfortable working in front of each other, with written work still set and marked individually. It fails when the codes or tiers differ, when there is a real gap in standing, or when one student is reticent. Siblings at different stages are the case that fails most often, and consecutive individual slots work better.

Why is Year 9 tuition better value than Year 11 tuition?+

Because fluency is built by short frequent practice over months, and a Year 9 student has the weekly capacity for it while a Year 11 student revising eight subjects does not. A term of work in Year 9 can change which tier a school enters a student for, and the tier sets the grade ceiling for two years. Spending in the final term buys examination technique, which is real and valuable and cannot recover a capped entry.

How much of a home tutor's rate is the journey from Al Muroor?+

Less than from the mainland communities, which is a genuine advantage of a central island address. Published in-home rates in the emirate run from AED 180 to 350 an hour in survey data and from AED 200 to 500 among independent home tutors, against roughly AED 150 to 300 online for a qualified subject tutor. From here the round trip is shorter, so a visiting arrangement sits lower in that band, though Airport Road traffic keeps the risk component real.

Does IB Gram visit homes in Al Muroor?+

No. We teach one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and do not offer home visits in Al Muroor or anywhere in the UAE, because home visiting is a service we run only in India. From a central island district the cost argument for video is weaker than it is from the mainland. The specification argument is just as strong: requiring a tutor in a scarcer code such as 0607 or 0606 to also drive here at five in the afternoon often leaves nobody.

What is the best value thing to buy for an IGCSE science student?+

The practical component, which almost nobody buys because families do not realise practical skills are examined in writing. The component tests whether another person could repeat the method, whether variables and controls are identified, graph scale choice, and whether a named source of error is matched by an improvement that addresses it. Those are writing skills applied to science, and four marked attempts changes them permanently.

Should we pay more for a premium named tutor?+

Only if the fault requires it. A premium named tutor has been advertised at AED 650 an hour, and that level of experience buys diagnostic judgement at the top of the grade range. If your child's problem is that frequency density was never taught, or that answers are rounded partway through, a specialist at AED 200 to 450 will fix it just as effectively. Match the rung to the fault, which is what reading the marked script tells you.

Does the price include VAT on tuition in the UAE?+

On the general tax treatment of tuition fees we state no position, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority and we would rather say so than publish something unsourced. What a family should do is ask any provider directly whether a quoted figure includes VAT and get the answer in writing before committing. A provider who cannot answer clearly about their own pricing has told you something about their administration.

Do tutors charge more because of the UAE permit?+

They should not, because the permit is free. The private tuition work permit is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, and the ministry's own service page lists no fee and a two working day completion time. A tutor who tells you the permit is costly is mistaken, and anyone quoting you a specific fine for tutoring without one is inventing it.

What should I ask before paying anything at all?+

Four questions. Which syllabus code and tier my child is entered for, which the school can confirm. Who marks written work between sessions and against what. What is included beyond the hour — a written diagnosis, an error log, a review date with a measure. And which subject you would refuse to take. The last answer is the most informative, because a provider who refuses nothing is not helping you ration a budget.

Is spending nothing ever the right answer?+

For a meaningful share of students, yes, at least initially. Twenty minutes a day of retrieval practice — writing an answer on an old topic without notes, then marking it against the published scheme — costs nothing and outperforms the rereading most students do. The school's own support class is free. Reading three published mark schemes with your child is free. All three should be exhausted before a household commits several thousand dirhams a year.

Match the rung to the fault, and start with one subject

Read the last marked script and work out which rung of the ladder your child's problem actually needs. Company and routine sits at the bottom; teaching with marked work in the middle; tier and paper judgement at the top. Then fund one subject rather than four, because a student has roughly two hours a week of spare practice capacity and the practice is where the learning happens. Try the school's free support class first. Lessons here run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; we do not offer home visits in the UAE, and the trial is one lesson with no card and no commitment.
