IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Muroor

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Muroor is a search about distance, but distance is not what decides the outcome. A tutor eight minutes away who has never taught Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is further from your child than a specialist on a screen. This page is about households in Al Muroor running two curricula and several subjects across one evening, and how one-to-one online lessons on Gulf Standard Time make that timetable fit.

  • IB Diploma and IGCSE covered in the same household, same week
  • Matched on subject and level rather than on driving distance
  • Evening slots from 6pm Gulf Standard Time, held weekly
  • Scarce subjects named honestly, with a waiting time if there is one

IB & IGCSE in Al Muroor

Why nearness is the wrong thing to optimise in Al Muroor

A search for a tutor near me is a search for a solved logistics problem. In Al Muroor that instinct is sound, because the neighbourhood is dense, the school runs go in four directions and nobody has a spare hour in the car. The difficulty is that nearness and suitability are not the same variable, and in IB and IGCSE teaching they pull in opposite directions.

Consider what a short radius actually contains. Al Muroor sits inland behind Muroor Road, with Al Mushrif, Al Nahyan, Al Wahda and Al Karamah within a few minutes and Airport Road along one side. Draw a five-kilometre circle and you capture a large resident population and a modest number of qualified subject teachers who tutor privately in the evenings. Narrow that to people who teach IB Chemistry Higher Level, or Cambridge 0580 Extended specifically rather than maths generally, or the mathematical exploration, and the circle usually contains one or two candidates. Narrow it again to those free at 7pm on the evening your household can hold, and it frequently contains nobody.

That is the trade every Abu Dhabi family makes without seeing it. They choose a tutor who can reach the building and accept whatever subject depth comes with them. For a Year 9 top-up that is fine. For an IB Diploma subject at Higher Level, or an IGCSE Extended entry with a tier decision riding on it, it is the whole quality question, and it is being decided by geography. Nobody chose that trade deliberately. It happens because the search began with a map rather than with a syllabus, and the map answered first.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Visits to a family's address are a service we run only in India. Every Al Muroor lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which means the shortlist for your child's actual subject and level is the whole shortlist rather than the part of it that lives nearby. It also means the slot can be late enough to work after a school run from Al Reem Island or Al Raha, because nobody is adding a tutor's drive to the end of yours.

The other thing this page is about is the household rather than the student. Al Muroor families frequently run two children on two curricula, one sitting IGCSEs and one in the Diploma, with three or four subjects between them that need help in the same school year. That is a scheduling problem, a cost problem and a consistency problem all at once, and it is handled very differently from a single weekly session for one child. Treating it as one child's problem four separate times is how a household ends up with four commitments, three of which are not the one that mattered.

At a glance

  • A five-kilometre radius around Al Muroor rarely contains an IB HL specialist free at 7pm
  • In-home market rates run AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included, against AED 150 to 300 online
  • Cambridge IGCSE in the UAE sits June and November; the February and March series is India-only
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November
  • Two children on two curricula is the normal case here, not the unusual one
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Muroor household with children in two systems is dealing with these three programme stages, often simultaneously. Each makes different demands on an evening.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years, eight or nine subjects, a tier decision per subject and terminal exams in June or November. Cambridge codes its subjects individually, 0580 for maths and 0625 for physics among them; Pearson uses its own, such as 4MA1. Support here is usually one subject at a time, aimed at a tier or at whole-paper technique.

Abu Dhabi centres sit the June and November Cambridge series. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used, which is worth confirming with the school rather than assuming.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject rather than by terminal paper, with a Personal Project in the final year. Students who look secure in MYP can still arrive at the Diploma short of specific technical fluency, because criterion-based marking rewards communication and process in ways a Diploma paper does not.

Several Al Muroor families have one child in MYP at an Al Reem Island or Al Raha campus and another sitting IGCSEs elsewhere on the island, which means two different report formats, two different assessment vocabularies and two sets of deadlines landing in the same fortnight.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment. The Diploma's distinctive load is not the difficulty of any one subject but the number of internal deadlines running at once, which is where most students actually come unstuck.

Diploma students from Al Muroor commute to campuses on Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island and the Al Raha corridor, where Higher Level cohorts are small. That is exactly the situation in which a nearby generalist is the wrong answer and a subject specialist on a screen is the right one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Al Muroor households most often need across both curricula, with an honest note on which are well covered and which are genuinely scarce in this market.

IB Mathematics AA and AI

HL and SL

Both Diploma maths courses, including the exploration worth 20% of the grade and, at Higher Level, the extended-response Paper 3. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the single scarcest teaching skill in Abu Dhabi and the clearest case for widening the search beyond a short radius.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and 4MA1

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Cambridge 0580 sets a non-calculator and a calculator paper per tier; Edexcel 4MA1 permits a calculator on both. Most recoverable marks sit in non-calculator fluency and in showing method on questions the student can already answer.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics, equilibrium and the data-based questions that reward precise language. The Internal Assessment is where most Diploma chemistry marks are won or lost, and tutors who can coach it without touching the writing are in short supply.

IGCSE Physics 0625 and 4PH1

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Electricity and waves account for most mark loss, and the practical-skills questions assume laboratory experience a student cannot acquire from a textbook. Describing an experimental method precisely is a trainable, heavily rewarded skill.

IB Biology

HL and SL

Command-term discipline decides grades here more than content recall: outline, explain, discuss and evaluate are marked differently and students answer all four the same way. Statistical analysis in the Internal Assessment is the common weak point.

IGCSE Chemistry and Biology

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The science triple and double award routes diverge in content and in grade ceiling, and families frequently do not know which their child sits. Marks cluster in recall precision and in correct use of units and significant figures.

IB English A and English B

HL and SL

Two very different courses, one for first-language study of literature and language and one for acquisition, with different assessments including the Individual Oral. Choosing the wrong one is a common and expensive error in an international cohort like Abu Dhabi's.

IB Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation command terms carry the marks, not the breadth of real-world reading. The Internal Assessment commentaries have strict word limits, and the commonest avoidable loss is exceeding them.

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay coaching

DP, all subjects

Criteria taught explicitly with their mark allocations, topics interrogated for depth, and written feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written, supplied or restructured for the student, and that boundary is stated before the first session.

Arabic as an additional language

All stages

Mandatory in UAE private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, and the subject most likely to be ignored until a report arrives. It is also one where provision is uneven, so a specific request is better than a general one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Households needing both curricula tend to use one of three arrangements. Choosing deliberately between them saves both money and evenings.

One subject per child, one fixed slot each

The arrangement that works for most Al Muroor households: a single weekly session per child, each in the subject with the widest gap, both from 6pm or later. It keeps the week navigable and forces the useful question of which subject actually needs the hour, which is usually not the one with the loudest complaint attached.

  • Two slots, two tutors, two subjects, one evening each
  • Each session tracks that child's own school sequence
  • Forces a decision about priority rather than spreading thin
  • Reviewed at six weeks against school evidence

Staged support across the year

Rather than running three subjects at once, support rotates: the IGCSE subject gets attention in the autumn when a tier is still open, the Diploma Internal Assessment gets it in the winter when the deadline approaches, and whole-paper work takes the spring. Fewer concurrent commitments, better outcomes, usually lower total cost.

  • Tier work in the autumn, while the entry can still change
  • Internal Assessment coaching in the winter term
  • Whole-paper timing from February onwards
  • One live commitment at a time rather than three

Short diagnostic blocks before committing

Four sessions in one subject to establish whether the problem is knowledge, technique or workload, ending in a written gap list. For households facing three or four plausible subjects, this is a far cheaper way to decide where the money goes than booking packages in all of them and discovering the answer in March.

  • A written gap list in syllabus language, per subject
  • Diagnosis against the child's own marked scripts
  • No package committed until the gap is named
  • Honest advice when the answer is workload, not tuition

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Muroor

01

What a short radius around Al Muroor actually contains

  • Each added condition roughly halves a local tutor pool
  • The last condition applied is usually the evening slot, and it is the one that empties the set
  • A generalist covering a Higher Level course is a different purchase from a specialist
  • Ask any provider what their tutor has actually taught, by course and level

Nearness buys convenience, and convenience is worth something. What it does not buy is subject depth, and the mathematics of that is worth setting out because almost nobody does it before hiring. The pool of private tutors around any dense Abu Dhabi district is reasonably large for general secondary work and shrinks sharply with every condition you add.

Add a curriculum and it halves. Add a specific syllabus code and it halves again. Add a level, Higher rather than Standard, Extended rather than Core, and it halves once more. Then add the only time your household can actually hold, which after a school run from Al Reem Island or the Al Raha corridor is 6.30pm or later, and the set is frequently empty. At that point a family either changes the subject they ask for help with or accepts a tutor who covers the course rather than specialising in it, usually without being told which has happened.

The table below works through the narrowing for the subjects Al Muroor families ask about most. The point is not that local tutors are poor; many are excellent. It is that geography is a filter with no relationship to teaching quality, and applying it first means the quality filter runs second on whatever is left. Removing the geography filter reverses the order, which is the entire argument for one-to-one delivery over live video in a city laid out like this one. There is a simpler version of this test. Ask the question you would actually want answered, then count how many people in your district could answer it. If the answer is one, geography has already chosen your tutor for you.

Two children, two curricula, one evening

The household rather than the student is the right unit of planning in Al Muroor, because the common case here is two children in two systems. One sitting IGCSEs at a school in Al Mushrif, one in the Diploma on Al Reem Island. Different finish times, different report formats, different assessment vocabularies, and deadlines that land in the same fortnight without anybody having coordinated them.

Run that badly and you get four tutoring sessions a week spread across two children and three subjects, a diary nobody can hold, and a parent arbitrating between competing claims on the dining table. Run it deliberately and the same money does considerably more. The central decision is sequencing: which subject needs the hour now, and which can wait a term without a cost.

Some things cannot wait. An IGCSE tier decision cannot wait, because the entry closes. A Diploma Internal Assessment topic cannot wait, because the mark ceiling is set in the first fortnight. A mock-paper technique problem in Year 11 cannot wait past February. Other things can. General consolidation in Year 10, a Standard Level subject sitting comfortably at a 5, or a Year 9 wobble are all legitimately deferrable. The table sets out how a two-child household typically sequences a year, which is a more useful planning document than any list of subjects. Write the sequence down in September and keep it where both parents can see it. Households that hold a written plan spend less and argue less, because the question in February is no longer which child shouts loudest but what the sheet said in September and whether the evidence has changed it.

03

What an IB week and an IGCSE week demand of a household

Parents moving a second child from IGCSE into the Diploma are regularly surprised by how different the load feels, and the difference is structural rather than about difficulty. An IGCSE year is dominated by terminal exams. Nearly all the marks arrive in one window, so the work is cumulative and the pressure is concentrated at the end.

A Diploma year is the opposite shape. Six subjects each carry an Internal Assessment, and the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service sit on top. Those deadlines are set internally by the school and they land throughout the two years. A Diploma student rarely fails because a subject is too hard; they fail because four internal deadlines coincide in November and nothing was started early. That is a planning problem, and it responds to a planning intervention rather than to more teaching hours.

This changes what a tutor is for. For the IGCSE child, a tutor is mostly closing knowledge and technique gaps against a terminal paper. For the Diploma child, a tutor is often doing that plus holding a line on an Internal Assessment timetable the school set and nobody is tracking. Both are legitimate. They are not the same purchase, and a household buying the same thing twice usually underserves one child. One further consequence worth planning for: a Diploma child needs an adult looking twelve weeks ahead, while an IGCSE child mostly needs one looking at last week's script. If the same tutor is asked to do both jobs for both children, one of those two jobs is quietly not being done.

Which subjects are easy to cover here, and which are genuinely scarce

  • Well covered: IGCSE maths and sciences, Diploma SL maths, biology, business management
  • Scarce: AA HL, AI HL, HL chemistry and physics, smaller languages, Theory of Knowledge
  • A scarce request gets a date, a named alternative with its limits, or an honest no
  • The tutor is named before the trial lesson, not after it

Every tutoring site in this market implies that every subject is always available. None of them disclose a coverage limit, which makes the claim worth less than an honest answer. Some subjects are straightforward to staff well at an Abu Dhabi evening hour. Others are not, and a family planning a year deserves to know which is which before committing to a plan that depends on the scarce one.

Broadly, IGCSE maths and the IGCSE sciences at either tier are well covered, as are Diploma Standard Level maths, biology and business management. The pressure points are Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Diploma chemistry and physics at Higher Level, the less common Group 2 languages, and specialist Extended Essay supervision in unusual subjects. Arabic as a first language is uneven. Theory of Knowledge is a genuinely small field.

What we do with that is state it. A request for a scarce combination gets one of three answers: a waiting time with a date attached, a named tutor who covers the course solidly but is not the deepest specialist available with that limitation spelt out, or an honest statement that we cannot cover it well at the hours you need. The third answer is sometimes the right one and it is always better than a mismatch that consumes a term. What never happens is a silent substitution: you know who is teaching your child, and what they have actually taught, before the trial lesson rather than after it.

05

What a nearby tutor knows about your child's school, and what they do not

  • School knowledge is real and transfers online without loss
  • Neighbourhood knowledge rarely affects a grade
  • Syllabus, paper structure and criteria are what the grade turns on
  • Ask how many cohorts a tutor has taught on that exact course and level

One real argument for a local tutor deserves a straight answer rather than dismissal. A tutor who lives in the area and has taught several children from the same school knows things a stranger does not: which teacher sets which kind of homework, how that department sequences topics, which mock paper gets reused, how a report is phrased when a child is drifting. That is genuine local knowledge and it has value.

It is also replaceable, and it is narrower than it looks. The knowledge is about the school, not about the neighbourhood, and a tutor who has taught six students from a Reem Island campus online has it in exactly the same measure as one who drives there. Meanwhile the parts of a child's situation that actually decide the grade, which syllabus they sit, which paper is non-calculator, which criteria the Internal Assessment is marked against, where their own scripts lose marks, are not local knowledge at all. They are subject knowledge, and they are what a short radius most often forces a family to compromise on.

The practical answer is to ask for both and insist on the second. Ask any tutor how many students they have taught on that specific course and level, and how many from schools like your child's. A tutor who can answer the first question precisely is worth more than one who can only answer the second, because what your child is assessed on is set by the IB, by Cambridge or by Pearson, and none of them vary by district.

06

Who is legally permitted to tutor near you

A search for a tutor near me in Abu Dhabi will surface a mix of agencies, platforms, tuition centres and individuals advertising informally, and they are not all operating on the same legal footing. This is checkable and most parents never check it.

Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page for the permit lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services system. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so any specific figure quoted online is unverified.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor. In Dubai, that requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal. Nothing in either route amounts to a regulator endorsing anybody's teaching, and the phrase approved tutors, in whatever form you see it, should be treated as marketing rather than as a credential. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation, partnership or licence, and any page in this market that claims one is worth a second look.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in an already full week

  • Arabic, Social Studies and Islamic Studies are the federal baseline in every private school
  • KHDA guidance counts time in forty-minute units and bars combined Arab and non-Arab classes
  • Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education need specific permission in Dubai
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five IGCSE subjects MoE equivalency counts

Any plan for a nearby tutor has to fit a school week that is fuller than the international curriculum alone. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, and must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Those subjects run alongside IB or IGCSE rather than replacing part of it.

The detail in the published guidance shows the scale of the commitment. KHDA's mandatory-subject requirements for Dubai, the fullest document of its kind in the country, calculate instructional time in forty-minute lesson units and advise that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least twenty-five minutes. They require separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibit combined classes outright because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Schools must ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA permission, and using different or additional content for these subjects without prior Ministry permission is not allowed.

For a household in Al Muroor the consequences are entirely practical. A Year 11 carrying nine IGCSE subjects plus Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies has no slack in the week, and a Diploma student has less. That argues for one well-aimed session rather than two vague ones, for sixty minutes rather than two hours, and for honesty about which subject genuinely needs the hour. It is also worth knowing that for Ministry equivalency on the British track, Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required IGCSE subjects, which surprises many parents who assumed the opposite.

08

MoE equivalency, for whichever track your child is on

A household running both curricula will eventually meet the Ministry of Education equivalency process, and the requirements differ by track. This matters for UAE university applications and for some employment routes, and it is handled by the Ministry rather than by any school or tutoring provider. Nobody should present it as something they perform or guarantee on your behalf.

On the British track, the published requirement is a pass in five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One competitor page in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which contradicts the published rule, and it is the kind of error a family can plan a year around.

On the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics by at least 450 in SAT Math. For the IB there is no published points threshold that could be verified for this page, so no figure appears here. Confirm all of it on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority before relying on any of it, including this summary, and note that tutoring is not a requirement of the process.

Districts around Al Muroor these lessons reach

Al Muroor's immediate neighbours and the campuses its children commute to. Because lessons are online, one evening slot serves a household regardless of which of these the day's driving went through.

Al Muroor

Mid-rise apartment living behind Muroor Road with Airport Road on one flank, short runs to Al Mushrif and longer ones to the mainland campuses. Flat space, not distance, is often the real constraint on a study slot.

Al Nahyan

Directly adjacent, with several long-standing private schools and a high incidence of siblings split between two campuses and two curricula in the same household.

Al Mushrif

The nearest concentration of British-curriculum and IB provision, minutes away. The one direction from which a session before six is comfortably possible on a weekday.

Al Wahda

Dense apartments around Al Wahda Mall with the island's shortest commutes and its smallest living spaces. Households here most often ask about a quiet slot rather than an early one.

Al Karamah

A quieter pocket on Al Muroor's border with a school pattern split between the island and Khalifa City, so an afternoon frequently contains both a short run and a long one.

Al Rawdah

Low-rise streets to the south, with several families running to Al Raha and Khalifa City. A 4pm session is unrealistic from here and a 7pm one is straightforward.

Al Reem Island

A short bridge crossing and the location of two significant IB and British-curriculum campuses, which is where a good number of Al Muroor Diploma students actually study.

Al Manaseer

West towards the Corniche, with families using schools on both the western island and the Bloom Gardens side, producing some of the longest cross-island runs on the island.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

List every subject in the household, not just the loud one

Both children, all the subjects anyone has worried about this term, with the curriculum and level beside each. The list is usually longer than a family expects and the priority is rarely the subject that prompted the search.

  2. 02

Name the two evening windows that genuinely work

Not the ideal time, the real one, after the drive back from Al Mushrif, Al Reem Island or the Al Raha corridor. With two children the windows often differ, and knowing both lets us tell you immediately which requests are coverable.

  3. 03

Send marked work for each child

A recent assessment per subject, marked, with teacher comments intact. Mark loss is visible on a script and invisible in a report, and this is what turns a first session into diagnosis rather than introductions.

  4. 04

Start with one child and one subject

A free trial in the single subject with the widest gap, with the tutor named beforehand. Starting narrow produces a written gap list you can act on; starting with four subjects produces four vague impressions.

  5. 05

Sequence the rest across the year

Tier work in the autumn, Internal Assessment coaching in the winter, whole papers from February. Rotating support rather than running everything at once usually costs less and achieves more, and the plan is reviewed at six weeks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The distance filter removed, the quality filter kept

Matching happens on course, level and availability rather than on a driving radius around Muroor Road. For a Higher Level Diploma subject in Abu Dhabi, that is the difference between a shortlist of one and a real choice.

Both curricula in one household

An IGCSE child and a Diploma child can be supported in the same week without two different arrangements, two sets of logistics and two unrelated accounts of how things are going.

Market in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour include the tutor's journey across a city your family has already crossed once that afternoon. An online hour is sixty minutes of teaching.

Honest about what we are not

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation, partnership or licence, and no school named on this page is a client or partner. Approved tutors is a phrase worth distrusting wherever you see it.

Primary sources, cited and linked

ADEK for school licensing, MoHRE for the tutor permit, the Ministry for equivalency, Cambridge and Pearson for timetables, and your child's coordinator for IB dates. We point at them rather than restating figures that get revised.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Muroor: your questions answered

Does it matter whether a tutor actually lives near Al Muroor?+

Less than the search implies. Nearness buys convenience, and in a district with school runs going four directions that is worth something. What it does not buy is subject depth, and the two conditions conflict. A five-kilometre circle around Muroor Road holds plenty of competent general tutors, a handful who teach a specific IGCSE syllabus and tier, and often one or two who teach a Diploma subject at Higher Level. Once an evening slot is added, the set is frequently empty. Removing the distance condition is what lets the subject condition be met properly.

Can one arrangement cover an IGCSE child and a Diploma child at the same time?+

Yes, and in Al Muroor that is the normal case rather than the unusual one. Two children in two systems means different finish times, different report formats and deadlines landing in the same fortnight. The workable pattern is one weekly session each, in the subject with the widest gap, both from 6pm or later, with the rest of the year sequenced rather than run at once. Tier work in the autumn, Internal Assessment coaching in the winter, whole papers from February. Four concurrent subjects is what makes a household plan collapse.

Will a tutor travel to our building near Muroor Road?+

Some Abu Dhabi providers do offer that, and market rates for in-home one-to-one sit at AED 180 to 500 an hour because the figure absorbs the journey. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; visits to a family's address are a service we run only in India. Al Muroor lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The practical gains are a slot late enough to work after a long school run, a tutor chosen for the subject rather than the postcode, and an hour of teaching with no commute inside it.

Which IB and IGCSE subjects are hardest to staff at an Abu Dhabi evening hour?+

Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the tightest, followed by Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Diploma chemistry and physics at Higher Level, the smaller Group 2 languages, specialist Extended Essay supervision in unusual subjects, and Theory of Knowledge, which is a genuinely small field. Arabic as a first language is uneven. IGCSE maths and sciences at either tier are comfortable, as are Standard Level Diploma maths, biology and business management. A request in the tight group gets a date, a named alternative with its limits stated, or an honest no.

How do I judge whether a tutor really knows my child's syllabus?+

Ask two specific questions and listen for precision rather than enthusiasm. First, which specification and which papers, by code: Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard. Second, how many cohorts they have taught on that exact course and level. A tutor who can name which paper is non-calculator, what the Internal Assessment criteria are worth and where students typically lose marks is demonstrating knowledge. A tutor who answers in general terms about experience and rapport is demonstrating something else.

Is a local tutor who knows my child's school worth paying more for?+

School knowledge is genuinely useful, and worth asking about. A tutor who has taught several students from the same campus knows how that department sequences topics, which mock papers recur and how its reports are phrased. The catch is that this is knowledge about the school, not about the neighbourhood, and a tutor who has taught six students from that campus online holds it in exactly the same measure. The things that decide the grade, the syllabus, the paper structure, the criteria and where the child's own scripts lose marks, do not vary by district at all.

We have three subjects we are worried about. Where should the money go first?+

Into whichever decision closes soonest. An IGCSE tier entry closes and cannot be reopened, so it comes first. An Internal Assessment topic sets a mark ceiling in its first fortnight, so it comes next. A Year 11 technique problem must be fixed before February. General consolidation, a Standard Level subject sitting at a 5, or a Year 9 wobble can all wait a term without cost. Four short diagnostic sessions across the candidate subjects, each ending in a written gap list, is a far cheaper way to decide than booking packages in all three.

Is private tutoring in Abu Dhabi regulated, and how do I check a tutor's position?+

It is. Individuals offering private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day turnaround. Ask the tutor whether they hold a current permit. Treat it as a legal clearance, not evidence of teaching quality or of any regulator endorsing anyone.

What does it mean when a tutoring site says its tutors are approved?+

Usually nothing verifiable, and it is worth probing. No UAE regulator approves individual private tutors on teaching merit. MoHRE issues a work permit to the individual. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to a training institute with premises in Dubai. Neither amounts to an endorsement of anyone's teaching, and claiming regulator approval without holding the specific permit is the most common overstatement in this market. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation, partnership or licence, and says so rather than implying otherwise.

Why does my Diploma child seem more overwhelmed than my IGCSE child?+

Because the two years are shaped differently. An IGCSE year concentrates nearly all its marks into one terminal window, so the pressure builds towards the end. A Diploma year spreads it: six subjects each with an Internal Assessment, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service, on internal school deadlines running throughout. Most Diploma students who struggle are not defeated by a subject's difficulty; they are defeated by four internal deadlines colliding in one month. That responds to planning and sequencing rather than to additional teaching hours.

How does the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education load affect a tutoring schedule?+

It removes most of the slack. Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's detailed guidance for Dubai counts that instructional time in forty-minute units and requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in several of those subjects. A Year 11 carrying nine IGCSE subjects plus three mandatory ones has a full week and a Diploma student has a fuller one. In practice that argues for one well-aimed sixty-minute session rather than two longer vague ones.

Is equivalency something a tutoring provider can arrange on our behalf?+

No. Equivalency is a Ministry process based on qualifications achieved, and tutoring is not part of it. On the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. For the IB no points threshold could be verified for this page, so none is quoted. Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority, and be wary of any provider presenting equivalency as something it performs for you.

What happens at the trial lesson, and what do we owe if it does not suit?+

The trial is free and it is a working session rather than a sales call. You are told who the tutor is and what they have taught, by course and level, before it begins. The tutor teaches something, tests a hypothesis about where the gap sits, and writes down what they found. You receive that written gap list afterwards in syllabus language. If the fit is wrong, the match changes and nothing is owed. A mismatch caught in week one costs an hour; one tolerated until half term costs a term.

Which schools do the students you support in central Abu Dhabi attend?+

Families in this part of the island come from British-curriculum and IB campuses in Al Mushrif and Al Nahyan and from schools on Al Reem Island, in Khalifa City and along the Al Raha corridor, including The British School Al Khubairat, Abu Dhabi International School, Repton School Abu Dhabi, GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi and Al Yasmina Academy. Those names describe the local school map and nothing more. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and no school named is a client.

Can lessons continue when we travel out of Abu Dhabi?+

Yes, and for Al Muroor households that travel is one of the main reasons online delivery works better than the alternative. An in-home arrangement cancels whenever the family leaves the city, which during a Diploma year can mean a three-week gap at exactly the wrong point. A live video session follows the student, so the only adjustment is the time zone. Families usually thin sessions out rather than stopping them over long summers, because the fluency that decides an IGCSE tier is the first thing to decay in a ten-week break.
