Typing "IB IGCSE tutor near me" while sitting in Saadiyat Island is a search for convenience, and convenience has a price attached that nobody itemises. This page itemises it. What the Abu Dhabi market charges, what the travel component of an in-home rate actually pays for, how the provider models compare, and which claims in any quote you receive can be checked by you in ten minutes rather than taken on trust.

IB & IGCSE in Saadiyat Island

What proximity actually costs a Saadiyat Island family

Start with what you can verify, because that is the part of this decision you control. Three of the six competitor pages we examined for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. One page's structured data contradicts the price printed on the page itself. Another publishes a star rating it awarded itself. In a market where the basic numbers are withheld or inconsistent, the useful skill is knowing which claims can be checked.

None of that is an argument for distrust. It is an argument for arithmetic. A tutoring arrangement is one of the few education purchases a family makes entirely on its own judgement, without a regulator setting the price or a school vouching for the person, and the only protection available is knowing what each component of a quote is for before agreeing to it.

Four can. Whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free, valid for two years, and applied for through MoHRE's own service page with a stated two-working-day completion time. Whether a named regulator approval exists, which is a specific licence rather than an adjective. Whether an AED figure has a source and a date attached. And whether the delivery format described matches what you are actually buying, which on a UAE page is the claim most often blurred.

Now the price of being near. Published market rates put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150-300 an hour and an in-home one-to-one visit, travel included, at AED 180-500. Bestimate's 2026 rate table quotes AED 180-350 for in-home; independent home tutors quote AED 200-500. The arithmetic that matters is the difference. Somewhere between AED 30 and AED 200 of an in-home hour is not teaching. It is the journey, the waiting, and the second booking the tutor could not take.

On Saadiyat Island that component is structurally larger than it is on the mainland, because access is across a bridge and because the afternoon window when sessions happen is the same window the roads are busy. A tutor coming from Khalifa City, Al Reef or Mohammed Bin Zayed City is committing most of an afternoon to one hour of teaching. They are entitled to charge for that. The question for a parent is whether presence in the room is worth what it costs when the alternative is choosing from everyone who teaches the subject rather than the few who will make the trip.

IB Gram answers that question by not selling the option. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Abu Dhabi families are taught one-to-one over live video, which removes the travel component from the rate entirely and widens the pool from a neighbourhood to a profession. The rest of this page sets out the numbers, the provider models, the verification checklist and the two-programme household case, where the cost arithmetic changes again.

At a glance

  • Published online band AED 150-300 an hour; in-home band AED 180-500 with travel included
  • The difference between the two bands buys a journey, not additional teaching
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule for tutoring without a permit is published, so no figure should be quoted to you
  • Three of six competing pages in this market publish no price at all
  • Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Saadiyat Island household often has children on two different tracks at once, which changes both the tutoring plan and the budget. These are the programmes a combined IB and International GCSE enquiry usually covers.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across two years, three at higher level and three at standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. The cost profile is long and front-loaded with content and back-loaded with technique, and the internal assessments carry a fixed share of each subject grade, which makes them the highest-value target for a short paid block.

Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, and several campuses serving Saadiyat Island run the full Diploma. UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no IB session or results dates: they are not confirmed from the IB's own site, and a date a parent acts on should come from the school's IB coordinator.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed rather than examined by terminal paper, which makes the cost question different: there is no past-paper diet to buy, and the value of tutoring sits in understanding how the four criteria in each subject are actually awarded. Families often overspend here on content help when the gap is criterion literacy.

Because not every Abu Dhabi Diploma school runs MYP beneath it, a DP1 cohort in this emirate mixes MYP leavers with International GCSE leavers. The two groups need different first terms, and a tutor who treats them identically wastes half the hours.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two-year terminal courses with named syllabus codes: 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610 and 0455 at Cambridge; 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and 4EA1 at Pearson. Core and Extended at Cambridge, Foundation and Higher at Pearson. All marks are terminal, so timed-paper practice is not optional, and that practice is what the final terms should be spent buying.

UAE Cambridge candidates sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Read the live timetable on the board's own site.

ASALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The sixth-form route for International GCSE students whose school does not run the Diploma. Named here because a two-child household on Saadiyat Island frequently has one child on each path, and the budget question is which of the two deserves the specialist rate in a given term.

The Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency route asks for one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E, or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, on top of five International GCSE passes at no less than E or grade 3.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects a combined IB and International GCSE household most often asks about, with what each assesses. Use them to decide which subject earns a paid hour this term and which can wait.

Mathematics (IB AA and AI; Cambridge 0580; Pearson 4MA1)

HL, SL, Extended, Higher

The subject with the highest tutoring demand on both tracks, because every Diploma student takes it and every International GCSE student is tiered. Non-calculator fluency is the recurring gap at both levels, and it is cheap to fix early and expensive to fix late.

Physics

HL, SL, Core, Extended

Mechanics and fields reward algebraic fluency, so Physics marks often move when maths tutoring works. The practical-skills component at International GCSE is a written paper about method and error, which teaches well on a shared screen.

Chemistry

HL, SL, Core, Extended

Moles, energetics and electrolysis half-equations carry the quantitative load. At Diploma level the internal assessment adds a design and data-analysis demand that is a separate skill from the taught content and worth a bounded block of its own.

Biology

HL, SL, Core, Extended

Highest content volume on either track, and the subject where command terms decide grades. Describe and explain carry different marks for the same knowledge, which is a technique problem rather than a knowledge problem.

English A and English Language

HL, SL, First Language

Marks sit in the guided analysis, the individual oral at Diploma level, and directed writing at International GCSE. All are taught techniques. Students can be articulate and score mid-band for not answering the exact brief that was set.

Economics and Business

HL, SL, Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Diagram accuracy and explicit evaluation decide the top bands on both tracks. Case-study application at International GCSE is the equivalent skill: theory recited without reference to the business in the paper caps a candidate mid-band.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Diploma core

Assessed by exhibition and essay against published criteria, and worth real points in combination. Support is process coaching and feedback on the student's own draft. No tutor writes, rewrites or supplies text for either.

Computer Science

HL, SL, Cambridge 0478

At International GCSE, pseudocode and trace tables are the most reliable mark-gainers and the most commonly skipped revision. At Diploma level the higher-level case study carries its own preparation load that is separate from the taught syllabus.

Arabic

Language B, ab initio, First and Foreign Language

Required alongside the licensed international curriculum under federal rules for Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies. First-language and additional-language routes are different courses, and placement in the wrong one is a common and correctable problem.

Geography and History

HL, SL, Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Both reward case studies carried with their specific figures rather than named in passing. Source-handling in History and skills questions in Geography are examinable in their own right and respond quickly to targeted work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to spend a tutoring budget, chosen by what the household actually needs rather than by habit. All are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not attend UAE addresses.

One specialist per child

The default for a two-track household: a Diploma subject specialist for the older child and an International GCSE code specialist for the younger, on separate evenings. It costs more per week than one tutor covering both and delivers more per dirham, because neither curriculum is being taught by someone whose main work is the other.

  • A separate specialist for each programme
  • Sessions on different evenings, not stacked
  • One scheduling contact for the household
  • Each tutor works to that child's own school deadlines

Bounded assessment blocks

Short blocks aimed at the components that carry a fixed share of a grade: a Diploma internal assessment, an Extended Essay process, an International GCSE coursework element where one exists. Cheaper than a year of weekly sessions and usually higher value, because the criteria are published and most marks are lost to criteria the student never read.

  • Four to eight sessions with a defined end
  • Work on published criteria and mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only
  • Timed against the school's internal deadline

Final-term paper intensive

A compressed block before a session or series, priced as a block of hours and judged on timed-paper scores. The easiest form of tutoring to budget and the easiest to evaluate: if the scores are not moving after three sessions, the block is not working and you will know.

  • Two or three shorter sessions a week
  • Papers sat under conditions and marked afterwards
  • A ranked list of the topics costing the most marks
  • Non-calculator work treated as its own skill

Diagnostic only

A single session whose purpose is to read a marked paper and produce a written list of named topics and an hour estimate. Some families take this and then do the work themselves, or take it to their school. That is a legitimate outcome and a cheap way to find out whether paid tutoring is the right purchase at all.

  • One session, one marked paper, one written output
  • Named topics rather than general weaknesses
  • An honest hour estimate for the repair
  • No obligation to continue

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Saadiyat Island

01

The travel premium, itemised

An in-home hour and an online hour are not the same product, and the difference is not teaching quality. Published bands put a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150-300 and an in-home one-to-one visit at AED 180-500, with Bestimate quoting AED 180-350 and independent home tutors quoting AED 200-500. Monthly packages in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Break the in-home figure into what it pays for. There is the teaching hour itself, which is the same hour either way. There is the outbound journey, which from the Khalifa City corridor to Saadiyat Island in the late afternoon is not short. There is the return journey. There is waiting time, because a school run that overruns by fifteen minutes is the tutor's time, not yours. And there is opportunity cost: a tutor who spends two and a half hours delivering one hour on the island cannot take a second booking that evening, and that lost booking is priced in.

That is a defensible charge. A tutor is entitled to be paid for an afternoon. The question is what the parent gets for it, and the honest answer is presence in the room plus a smaller choice of tutors. On a specification like Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics or a Diploma higher level science, the smaller choice is the expensive part, because the premium buys a journey from someone who may not be the right specialist.

IB Gram removes the component rather than discounting it. We do not sell home visits in the UAE at all, and lessons for Abu Dhabi families are delivered one-to-one over live video. The table below separates the parts of an in-home rate so that a quote can be read rather than accepted.

Provider models compared on what you can actually check

Every competitor page in this market compares itself to an unnamed set of other platforms. A neutral comparison is more useful, and it should compare models rather than brands: an agency, an international marketplace, a freelance tutor, a tuition centre, a platform, and your child's own school. Each has a different cost structure, a different pool, and a different level of verifiability, and the last of those is the one nobody discusses.

A freelance tutor is the cheapest to engage directly and the hardest to verify, because there is nothing to check except the person in front of you and their permit. A tuition centre is verifiable in a different way: premises mean a licence, and in Dubai a training institute needs an educational services permit with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. An international marketplace is often the least verifiable of all, quoting in dollars and routing UAE enquiries to non-UAE phone numbers.

Two patterns in this market are worth naming as warnings rather than as competitor criticism. Published structured data that contradicts the price on the page, which we found on one ranking site, means at least one of the two numbers is wrong. A self-awarded star rating, which we found on another, is not evidence of anything and is against Google's own structured-data policy. Neither tells you the tutoring is bad. Both tell you the page's numbers cannot be relied on.

The table below compares the models on the dimensions a parent can test. Rates are the published market bands cited earlier, attributed to the sources that published them. Nothing in this table is a price list for IB Gram.

Four claims you can check in ten minutes

Verification is the cheapest money-saving tool available in this market, and it takes less time than reading a pricing page. There are four claims worth checking on any quote, including ours.

The permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Because it is free and fast, an independent tutor without one has no cost excuse, and individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

The approval. Regulator approval is a specific licence, not a descriptor. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs an educational services permit for a training institute, which is a documented thing with a permit number. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no UAE office or centre. Any provider claiming otherwise can be asked for the number.

The figure and the format. An AED figure without a source and a date is not a market rate, it is an assertion; every figure on this page carries the name of the page or survey that published it. And the delivery format should be stated plainly rather than implied by a page title. A UAE page whose conversion path is a non-UAE phone number is telling you where the service actually sits, which is the detail two ranking competitors leave for the parent to discover.

The two-programme household: costing IB and IGCSE together

A Saadiyat Island family with a Year 11 International GCSE candidate and a DP2 Diploma student is running two different cost curves at once, and treating them as one budget is where the overspend happens. The International GCSE child needs terminal paper practice, which is intensive, short and finishes on results day. The Diploma child needs internal-assessment support at a fixed point and technique work in the final two terms, with a long content stretch in between where the school is doing most of the work anyway.

Those curves peak at different times, which is useful. If one child's intensive is in the spring and the other's assessment block falls in the autumn, a household can run a single specialist rate sequentially rather than two simultaneously. Families who book both children into weekly sessions for the whole year are paying through the trough of both curves, which is the least efficient possible allocation.

The temptation is to put one tutor on both children to save money. For mathematics at International GCSE and Diploma standard level there is a case for it, because the content genuinely adjoins. For most other combinations there is not: a Diploma higher level science specialist teaching International GCSE Extended content is being paid a specialist rate to do generalist work, and a generalist covering a Diploma internal assessment will not know the criteria.

The table sets out the two curves against each other so a household can see where the peaks fall. It is a planning tool rather than a price list, and the hourly bands behind it are the published market figures already cited.

Tutoring cost in the context of everything else you pay

  • Ask about the school's own catch-up provision before paying anyone
  • Buy a diagnosis before buying a block of hours
  • Concentrate spend where a grade share is fixed and large
  • Exam entry and equivalency are arranged with centres and the Ministry, not with tutors

Tutoring is never the only education line in a household budget, and the comparison is clarifying. Dubai's regulator confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in that emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Abu Dhabi fee rules sit with ADEK rather than KHDA, so confirm your own school's position directly with the school.

Against a private school fee, a mid-band weekly session at a published AED 150-300 an hour is a visible addition rather than a transformative one. Two children at the specialist band for a full academic year is a different proposition, and it is the scenario a family should decide deliberately rather than arrive at by adding one arrangement to another. Bestimate's monthly estimates make the shape clear: AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, per child, per subject.

There are costs that are not tutoring and are often forgotten. Exam entry as a private candidate is arranged with an exam centre and priced by that centre, never by a tutor. Equivalency and attestation for a UAE university application are Ministry processes with their own requirements, and nothing on this page is performed or guaranteed by IB Gram. And a school's own catch-up provision is usually included in fees already, which makes it the first thing to ask about rather than the last.

The practical conclusion is unglamorous. Ask the school first, buy a diagnosis second, buy bounded blocks where the grade share is fixed and large, buy the intensive where the marks are terminal, and stop paying when the work is done. That sequence costs less than a two-year weekly arrangement and in most cases achieves more.

What a free trial is actually for

  • Watch whether your child admits confusion, not whether they are polite
  • A tutor working from evidence names specific topics in the first ten minutes
  • Check they asked about route, level, board, code and tier beforehand
  • Any free offer should state its conditions in the same place it is advertised

A trial lesson is often described as a chance to meet the tutor, which undersells it. Used properly it is a diagnostic session you did not pay for, and it answers three questions that no amount of reading can.

First, whether your child will admit confusion to this person. A student who performs understanding rather than reporting it will cost you a term of comfortable sessions and no movement, and you can see which it will be in forty minutes. Second, whether the tutor works from evidence. A tutor who has read the marked paper you sent and opens by naming two or three specific topics is working from evidence; one who opens by asking your child how they feel about the subject is working from a script.

Third, whether they asked the structural questions. For a Diploma student: which route, which level, which internal assessment deadline. For an International GCSE student: which board, which code, which tier. A tutor who has not asked those before the trial began will not ask them afterwards either, and the hours will be spent at slightly the wrong depth from beginning to end.

One caution about free offers generally, including ours. Anything described as free should state its conditions in the same place: how long the trial is, who is eligible, and whether card details are required. Ours is a full one-to-one session over live video, at no cost, with no card details taken. If any provider's free offer has a condition you had to find elsewhere, that is itself a piece of information about the provider.

07

Where a tutor's role ends on both programmes

  • A tutor teaches criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • No tutor writes, rewrites or supplies text for submission
  • Board documents are cited and linked, never reproduced
  • Most assessment marks are lost to unread criteria rather than unknown content

Both tracks put a share of the grade inside work the student must author, and both treat authorship as non-negotiable. In the Diploma that is the internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition. At International GCSE it is the coursework or controlled assessment components where a school enters them. The boundary is the same in each case and it is worth stating in writing rather than leaving a parent to assume it.

A tutor may teach the skills the task assesses, explain each criterion and what its marks are awarded for, discuss topic ideas the student has proposed, teach techniques the student has chosen to use, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. That is substantial work and it is where a bounded assessment block earns its cost, because most marks in these components are lost to criteria nobody read rather than to content nobody knew.

No tutor may write the work, rewrite a draft into its final form, or supply text for submission. One page competing for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright at a published price. That is an academic-integrity breach and a malpractice trigger for the student, whose Diploma is the thing at risk rather than the provider's. We are explicit about this because in this market the position is not universal.

The same limit applies to materials. We do not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides. They belong to the boards, they are published on the boards' own sites, and the useful skill is teaching a student to work with them rather than handing over a copy.

Where we tutor

The radius problem: where "near me" actually reaches

This list is a cost illustration. Each area is a plausible origin for an in-home tutor serving Saadiyat Island, and the further out it sits the more of your hourly rate pays for the road rather than the room.

Saadiyat Island

The only location with no travel component at all, and the one with the fewest resident specialists. A genuinely local match is the cheapest in-home option available and the rarest, particularly for Diploma higher level subjects.

Al Khalidiyah and the Corniche

Central districts closest to the island by Abu Dhabi standards. An in-home visit from here adds a modest travel component rather than a dominant one, which is why quotes from central tutors sit lower in the published band.

Al Bateen

Established international school district with a shorter run to Saadiyat than the Khalifa City corridor. A reasonable source of mid-band in-home quotes, and home to several Diploma campuses.

Al Reem Island

Reached from Saadiyat through the mainland rather than directly, so the map distance understates the journey. In-home quotes originating here commonly sit in the middle of the published AED 180-500 band.

Khalifa City

The largest pool of experienced secondary teachers in the emirate and a long afternoon run to the island. Most mid-to-upper in-home quotes a Saadiyat family receives come from here, and the travel component is substantial.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

The corridor nearest several campuses Saadiyat students attend. A tutor here reaches the school quickly and the home slowly, which is why the same person may quote two different rates for the same hour.

Yas Island

Reached inland, making a round trip long enough to dominate an afternoon. An in-home quote from Yas to Saadiyat sits towards the top of the band for travel reasons alone.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Reef

Inland communities where many teaching staff live. Realistically an hour each way to the island in the late afternoon, which puts any in-home quote from here at the upper end of what the market charges.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Saadiyat Island

Saadiyat Island and central Abu Dhabi

Households here frequently have one child on the Diploma and another on an International GCSE track, sometimes at different campuses. That is the case where the budget question becomes real, because two specialists cost more than one generalist and are worth more than two generalists.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City and the Al Raha corridor

The destination for most Saadiyat Island secondary students and the densest block of IB and British-curriculum places in the emirate. Also where the in-home tutors quoting the largest travel components are based, which is the whole point of the comparison on this page.

  • Raha International School
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

Yas Island and Al Reem Island

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say who needs what, and when

Tell us which children, which programmes, which subjects, and when each one's pressure point falls. A household with a Year 11 candidate and a DP2 student has two different cost curves, and knowing where the peaks sit is what stops both running at full rate all year.

  2. 02

Send one marked paper per child

A marked mock, a returned assessment or an annotated draft. It converts the first session from an interview into teaching, and it is the single piece of evidence that tells a tutor whether the problem is two topics or something structural.

  3. 03

Use the free trial as a diagnostic

A full one-to-one session over live video, at no cost, with no card details taken. Judge it on whether the tutor read what you sent, named specific topics, and asked about route, level, board, code and tier before starting.

  4. 04

Agree the shape, not just the rate

Weekly across a course, a bounded assessment block, a final-term intensive, or a single diagnostic. Each has a different hour count and therefore a different total, and the shape matters more to the final bill than the hourly figure does.

    Review on measurable things

A short written note follows each session. The tests are whether the named topic list is shrinking and whether timed-paper scores are moving. If neither has changed in six weeks, change the plan. Momentum is the most expensive thing in this market.

Stop when the work is done

The honest end point of a bounded block is the end of the block. We would rather a family finished a repair and stopped than continued a weekly arrangement out of habit, and we will say so when the evidence says the work is finished.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

No travel component, because there is no travel

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video and IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. That removes the AED 30-200 of an in-home hour that pays for a bridge crossing, a return trip and a booking the tutor could not take.

Every figure on this page is attributed

Each AED band names the competitor page or rate survey that published it. Three of the six competing pages we examined publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. You should be able to test any quote, including ours.

Claims you can check, or no claim at all

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and has no UAE office. We publish no self-awarded ratings and no statistics without a source.

A specialist per programme, not one tutor for both

A Diploma subject specialist and an International GCSE code specialist are different people for good reason. Two specialists cost more than one generalist per week and deliver more per dirham, because neither curriculum is a sideline for the person teaching it.

The pool widens instead of narrowing

A Saadiyat Island family choosing an in-home tutor is choosing from those who will make the journey. Choosing online means choosing from everyone who teaches the route, level or syllabus code, which matters most for the scarcest specialisms.

Authorship boundaries in writing

A tutor teaches criteria, tests topic ideas the student proposed, and gives feedback on the student's own draft. No tutor writes, rewrites or supplies work for submission, and we reproduce no board papers or mark schemes. In this market that is a differentiator, not a formality.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Saadiyat Island: your questions answered

What does "tutor near me" actually get a Saadiyat Island family?+

A shorter list and a higher rate. Published bands put a qualified tutor working online at AED 150-300 an hour and an in-home visit at AED 180-500 with travel included, and the gap pays for a journey rather than for teaching. On an island reached by a single bridge, that component is structurally larger than on the mainland. What proximity buys is presence in the room. What it costs is choice, which matters most for the scarcest specialisms.

How much of an in-home tutoring rate in Abu Dhabi is travel?+

Somewhere between AED 30 and AED 200 an hour, taking the published online band of AED 150-300 against the in-home band of AED 180-500. Bestimate quotes AED 180-350 for in-home and independent tutors quote AED 200-500. That component covers the outbound and return journey, waiting time when a school run overruns, and the second booking the tutor could not take that evening. It is a defensible charge. It simply buys no additional teaching.

Is it cheaper to put one tutor on both my IB and IGCSE children?+

Cheaper per week, usually worse value. For mathematics at International GCSE and Diploma standard level there is a reasonable case, because the content genuinely adjoins. For most other combinations there is not: a Diploma higher level science specialist teaching Extended International GCSE content is being paid a specialist rate for generalist work, and a generalist supporting a Diploma internal assessment will not know how the criteria are awarded. A better saving is to stagger the two children's intensive phases.

Which claims in a tutoring quote can I verify myself?+

Four. Whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free, valid for two years and applied for through MoHRE's own service page with a two-working-day completion time. Whether any claimed regulator approval is a real permit with a number. Whether each AED figure carries a source and a date. And whether the delivery format is stated plainly, since a UAE page whose contact route is a non-UAE number is telling you where the service actually sits.

Does IB Gram hold any UAE regulator approval?+

No, and we say so rather than letting the question go unanswered. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. We name those bodies on this page to explain what each one governs. A tutoring operation with premises in Dubai would need an educational services permit for a training institute, which is a documented thing with a number you could ask for.

Why do some tutoring sites in this market publish no prices at all?+

We cannot speak to their reasons, only to what we measured. Of six competitor pages examined for this market, three publish no price whatsoever, and the two that do quote in US dollars rather than dirhams. One page's own frequently-asked-questions section raises the price question and then declines to answer it. One site's structured data contradicts the figure printed on the page. The practical effect for a parent is that comparison becomes impossible, which is why every band on this page carries its source.

Is a tuition centre group class in Abu Dhabi better value than one-to-one?+

Cheaper per hour, and with two real costs for a Saadiyat Island household. The first is a second evening journey, usually to central Abu Dhabi, at the hour your child should be eating. The second is that a group cannot be matched to one student's syllabus code or Diploma route, because the room contains several entries. For general content coverage in an early year it can work. For terminal paper technique, where the value is in marking one student's own paper with them, it does not.

When should a household spend the most on tutoring?+

At the points where a grade share is fixed and large, and in the final term where marks are terminal. For a Diploma student that means the internal assessment block and the last two terms of technique work. For an International GCSE candidate it means the timed-paper intensive before the series. The low-value period is the long content stretch in the first year, where the school is covering the same material at the same time, and where a weekly arrangement quietly consumes most of a budget.

Do you send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, including Saadiyat Island; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. The reason is stated throughout this page: the travel component of an in-home rate buys no teaching, and on an island it narrows the pool to those willing to make the crossing rather than those who know the subject best.

What is the free trial lesson and what are its conditions?+

A full one-to-one session over live video, at no cost, with no card details taken. Its honest purpose is to act as a diagnostic you did not pay for. Watch whether your child will admit confusion to this person, whether the tutor read the marked paper you sent and named specific topics, and whether they asked about route, level, board, code and tier beforehand. Any free offer, including ours, should state its conditions in the same place it is advertised rather than somewhere you have to find.

Does a tutor working with a Saadiyat Island family need a UAE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, treat any amount quoted to you as unverified.

How do school fees compare with what tutoring costs?+

Against a private school fee, a single mid-band weekly session is a visible addition rather than a transformative one. Two children at the specialist band across a full year is a different proposition. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates are AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, per child and per subject. Dubai's regulator confirmed a fee freeze for 2026-27 in that emirate on 22 May 2026; Abu Dhabi fee rules sit with ADEK, so ask your school.

What is the cheapest useful thing I can buy before committing?+

A single diagnostic session built around one marked paper, with a written output: named topics rather than general weaknesses, and an honest estimate of how many hours the repair needs. Some families take that list to their child's school and use the school's own catch-up provision, which is usually already included in fees. That is a legitimate outcome and it is a far cheaper answer than a year of weekly sessions bought on a hunch about what the problem is.

Can a tutor help with a Diploma internal assessment or IGCSE coursework?+

Within a stated boundary, yes, and that work is often the best value in the whole arrangement. A tutor may explain each criterion and its mark allocation, test topic ideas the student has proposed, teach the techniques the student has chosen, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. No tutor may write the work, rewrite it into its final form, or supply text for submission. Most marks in these components are lost to criteria nobody read, not to content nobody knew.

How will I know when to stop paying for tutoring?+

When the named topic list is empty and the timed-paper scores have stopped moving upward, which for a bounded repair block is usually a matter of weeks rather than terms. The honest end point of a block is the end of the block. We would rather tell a family the work is finished than let a weekly arrangement continue from habit, which is how a household ends up with two years of comfortable sessions, a large total, and a grade that moved early and then stayed still.

Price the convenience before you buy it

Ask any provider for an AED figure with a date, ask what share of it is travel, ask whether the tutor holds the free MoHRE permit, and ask whether the lesson happens online or in your living room. Four questions, ten minutes, and most of the uncertainty in this market disappears. IB Gram teaches Abu Dhabi students one-to-one over live video, publishes market rates with their sources rather than a price list, holds no regulator approval and says so, and starts with a free trial lesson and no card details.
