IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Bandar

Search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Bandar and the problem is not finding candidates. It is that thirty profiles look identical and the search engine has sorted them by distance, which is the one variable that does not affect a grade. This page gives you a shortlisting funnel, a way to compare two trial sessions side by side, and a week-one checklist that tells you early whether the match is right. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • A four-stage shortlisting funnel that ends with two candidates, not thirty
  • A scorecard for comparing two trial sessions on the same evidence
  • A week-one checklist that surfaces a poor match inside two sessions
  • Free trial lesson, no card required, nothing renews automatically

IB & IGCSE in Al Bandar

Thirty plausible names, sorted by the wrong variable

Al Bandar sits in Al Raha Beach, minutes from several of Abu Dhabi's better-known schools and inside the deepest pool of teaching staff on the mainland. A near me search here returns plenty, and it sorts what it returns by distance. Distance is the one factor in this purchase with no effect on an outcome: the syllabus is set by the board, the mark scheme is published by the board, and the grade boundaries apply identically to every candidate in the emirate. Sorting by proximity is sorting by convenience and calling it a recommendation.

The second problem is that the profiles are indistinguishable. Experienced, qualified, patient, results-focused, flexible, familiar with the UAE curriculum. None of that is false and none of it is decisive. What a parent needs is a filter that eliminates most of the list quickly on evidence rather than on impression, and then a way to compare the final two or three on the same basis. That is a process problem, not a judgement problem, and process problems have published answers.

So this page is the process. It gives a four-stage funnel that takes thirty names down to two, a scorecard for running two trial sessions and comparing them on identical evidence, and a week-one checklist that surfaces a poor match inside the first two sessions rather than in the spring. It also covers the particular complication of this community, which is households running two systems at once: one child in the Diploma at a school in the Al Raha or Khalifa City belt, another sitting IGCSE, with two assessment calendars colliding in the same week.

A note on what the funnel filters for. Stage one is the fact base: the syllabus code or the IB subject and level, which comes from the school rather than from a tutor. Stage two is the permit, which is checkable in a minute. Stage three is syllabus knowledge, tested with three questions. Stage four is the trial, scored against a short list of observable behaviours. Nothing in the funnel requires a parent to know the subject, which is deliberate: a process that only works for parents who are themselves mathematicians is not a process.

And the model, stated plainly. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. In this part of Abu Dhabi an in-home arrangement is genuinely easy to organise, so the case for online here is selection rather than logistics, and the published rates favour it too: in-home one-to-one is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Our trial lesson is free with no card required, and the funnel below works on us as well as on anyone else.

At a glance

  • A near me search sorts by distance, which does not affect an outcome
  • Stage one of any shortlist is the syllabus code or the IB subject and level
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge for two years
  • Three questions eliminate most of a long list on evidence rather than impression
  • Two trial sessions, scored on the same evidence, beat thirty profiles
  • IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The funnel filters for different things depending on the programme. Here is what stage three should test in each case.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Test for component weightings and Internal Assessment criteria by letter. A Diploma tutor is really a subject-and-level specialist, so the question is whether they have taught that exact combination to examination. The core matters too: the Extended Essay runs to a 4,000-word ceiling and the Theory of Knowledge essay to 1,600, both produced across months.

Al Bandar Diploma students attend schools across the Al Raha Beach, Khalifa City, Yas Island and island clusters, all within a short drive. Where a minority Higher Level subject is involved, stage three often ends the search early, because the specialism may not exist locally at any price and that is worth discovering in week one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Test for the syllabus code, the tier and the calculator rules. Cambridge 0580 Core is graded C to G and Extended A* to E, with one paper sat without a calculator; Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers, caps Foundation at grade 5 and runs Higher from 9 to 4. A tutor who cannot discuss that distinction has not prepared candidates on either.

Schools in this belt use both boards and occasionally different boards for different subjects within one school. The code is on the exam entry statement and the exams officer will confirm it in a line, so stage one of the funnel is an email rather than a judgement call.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Test for whether they can explain criterion marks to a parent. Criterion-referenced assessment is not a percentage, and a tutor who lets a parent keep reading an MYP report as a percentage grade is not going to target the right work. The Personal Project is the end point and needs supervision rather than instruction.

Several schools within reach of Al Bandar run the MYP as the route into the Diploma. A useful early session for a family new to it is one spent on the criteria with parent and student together, because it changes how every subsequent report is read and what help is actually requested.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry names the specific thing stage three should test, because a general claim of experience is what the funnel is designed to filter out.

IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

Test on weightings: two papers at forty per cent each with the exploration at twenty at Standard Level, three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty with the exploration at twenty at Higher. Immediate and precise, or they have not planned the course.

IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Test on how modelling questions are taught differently from Analysis and Approaches. A tutor who treats the two routes as one course with different difficulty has not taught either to examination.

IB Chemistry, Physics and Biology

SL and HL

Test on the scientific investigation: what the criteria reward and where marks are lost. The research design and the analysis carry more losses than practical technique, which is also why these subjects support well over video.

IB Economics and Business Management

SL and HL

Test on explain against evaluate, and on the portfolio or case-study components. Higher Level availability is thinner in this market, so stage three sometimes ends in an honest no rather than a match.

IB English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Test on the individual oral: what it requires and how it is rehearsed. An answer describing a reading list rather than a method indicates somebody who has not prepared candidates for the component.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Test on which paper bans the calculator and what each route can be awarded, then on where candidates lose marks. Useful answers name invisible method, early rounding, bearings and scale factors.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Test on how preparation differs from Cambridge. The honest answer is reading discipline in the long back-of-paper questions rather than non-calculator drilling, because a calculator is permitted throughout.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Test on command terms and on mole arithmetic. Candidates describe when the question says explain, and lose calculation marks for writing only a final number, both of which are teachable in a handful of sessions.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Test on the extended responses, which are marked against a list of acceptable points. A tutor proposing more reading has misdiagnosed a subject where structure and coverage decide the mark.

Cambridge IGCSE First Language English 0500 and English as a Second Language 0510

Single tier and Core/Extended

Test on the directed writing task and the summary task respectively. Fluent students lose marks on structure rather than vocabulary, and a tutor who proposes vocabulary work has read the student rather than the paper.

IB Computer Science, Digital Society and Arabic A Literature

SL and HL

Genuinely scarce in this market, especially at Higher Level. Stage three here often produces an honest no and a stated wait, which is more useful than an approximate match discovered in session four.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

School-dependent

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools, with published rules on class organisation and language of instruction, and school teachers of these subjects require the relevant regulator approval. Treat broad tutoring claims here with care.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families here use us, all one-to-one over live video, and all designed so a poor match becomes visible early rather than late.

Two trials, scored side by side

Rather than booking one tutor and hoping, run two free trials in the same week and score both against the same short list of observable behaviours. The student does real work in both, so neither session is wasted. The comparison is what makes the decision, and it is far more informative than two separate impressions a month apart.

  • Both trials on the same material, within the same week
  • Scored against the scorecard later on this page
  • Student completes genuine work in each session
  • No card required for either, and no obligation

Two systems, one household

For families running a Diploma student and an IGCSE student simultaneously. Separate specialists matched per syllabus and level, the two assessment calendars mapped side by side, and session times arranged so one protected evening serves both children rather than competing for it.

  • Different tutors, because the systems demand different things
  • Internal deadlines and mock seasons mapped together
  • Hours allocated by where each child's marks are being lost
  • One point of contact for both arrangements

Scoped block with a week-one checklist

Whatever is bought is scoped in writing first, and the week-one checklist on this page is run after the first two sessions. If the checklist fails, the tutor changes at our cost before any real time has been spent. That is the whole purpose of placing a checklist at week one rather than a review at week twelve.

  • Scope written down before the first paid session
  • Checklist run after sessions one and two
  • Tutor changed at our cost if the checklist fails
  • Formal review at six sessions, nothing renews automatically

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Bandar

01

The four-stage funnel: from thirty names to two

Stage one is not about tutors at all. It is an email to your child's school asking for the syllabus code and tier for each IGCSE subject, or the IB subject and level, plus the exam centre and its Cambridge administrative zone where relevant. Without those facts no filtering is possible, because every subsequent question depends on knowing the right answer. This stage takes one message and eliminates nobody, which is why it is skipped and why skipping it wastes the rest.

Stage two is the permit, and it eliminates quickly. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time and no fee. Ask to see it. Anyone who quotes a fee for the permit itself, or who is evasive about holding one, has removed themselves from the list. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so disregard any page quoting an amount.

Stage three is three questions and it does the heavy lifting: what is each component of this course worth, name the Internal Assessment criteria by letter with their mark allocations where the subject has one, and where do candidates lose marks on this specific paper. Precise, immediate answers indicate someone who has prepared candidates. Generalities about confidence and motivation indicate someone who has not. Stage four is the trial, scored against the behaviours in the next section. A thirty-name list usually reaches stage four with two or three survivors, and the whole funnel costs an email, two short conversations and a free session.

02

Scoring two trial sessions on the same evidence

One trial produces an impression. Two trials in the same week, on the same material, produce a comparison, and a comparison is a decision. Give both tutors the same thing to work from: a marked paper, a returned piece of coursework, or a specific topic the student is stuck on. Then watch for the same behaviours in each and write down what you saw rather than how you felt.

The behaviours worth scoring are observable and require no subject knowledge. Did the tutor ask what the student already understood before explaining anything? Did they look at the actual evidence, the script or the draft, rather than talking generally about the topic? Did they watch the student work, or do the work themselves while the student watched? Did they name a specific next step, with a reason? Did they say anything they would not do, which is the test of a boundary? Did the student speak more in the second half of the session than the first?

That last one is the most reliable single indicator and the easiest to miss. A session in which the tutor's share of the talking falls as the hour progresses is a session in which the student is being made to think. A session that ends with the tutor still explaining is a lecture, and lectures are available free from a school. Score both trials on these points within an hour of each ending, while the detail is fresh, and the choice usually makes itself.

What the two systems demand of a tutor, and why one person rarely does both well

Families here often ask whether one tutor can cover a Diploma student and an IGCSE sibling. Occasionally yes, usually not, and the reason is structural rather than about talent. IGCSE mathematics on Cambridge 0580 or Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 is assessed entirely by written papers, so the skill being bought is paper technique: visible method, pacing, answer form, and mark-scheme fluency on a specific component. The work is short, measurable and intense.

The Diploma places about a fifth of each subject grade in work produced at home across months, which demands a different capability: supervising a piece of independent writing against published criteria without touching it, over a long period, while also teaching two or three papers. A tutor strong at one of these is not automatically strong at the other, and the second requires patience with a process rather than fluency with a mark scheme.

The calendars compound it. Cambridge International runs IGCSE in June and November, and UAE candidates sit those two; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November. The Diploma's internal deadlines sit at intervals across two years and frequently land in the same weeks as an IGCSE sibling's mock season. The table sets out what each system asks of a tutor, which is also the list of things to test for separately at stage three if you are hiring for two children.

The week-one checklist

Most families discover a poor match in the spring, which is the most expensive moment to discover it. The purpose of a week-one checklist is to move that discovery forward to session two, when switching costs almost nothing. The items are deliberately concrete and all of them are things a parent can verify without sitting in the session.

After the first two sessions, you should be able to answer: has the tutor named, specifically, what is costing marks? Has that been written down anywhere? Did the student do work between the sessions, and was it marked at the start of the second? Can the student say what the next session will cover? Has the tutor mentioned the assessment calendar, whether that is the June series or an internal deadline? Has anything been measured, in units you could check against your child's own papers?

If more than two of those answers are no, raise it immediately rather than waiting. In our arrangements the tutor changes at our cost, and the review at six sessions exists as a formal backstop rather than as the first opportunity. In this community, where tutors frequently arrive by recommendation from a neighbour, the awkwardness of switching is the main reason families stay in a mismatch, and a checklist agreed in advance removes the awkwardness by making the question procedural. It also protects a good tutor, because a parent with a checklist raises specific points early instead of accumulating a vague dissatisfaction that surfaces as a cancellation three months later.

What a near me search cannot sort for

  • Distance cannot see syllabus-specific experience, the permit, or a coursework boundary
  • Distance cannot see who does the work in a session; a trial can
  • Scarce specialisms exist and should be disclosed with an expected wait
  • Sometimes the honest recommendation is a different intervention, or none

A distance sort cannot see the four things that decide whether an arrangement works. It cannot see whether the tutor has prepared candidates on your child's specific syllabus and level, which is the only form of experience that affects marks. It cannot see whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It cannot see where they will draw the line on coursework. And it cannot see whether they will make your child do the work or do it for them, which is visible in a trial session and in nothing else.

It also cannot see availability honestly. Minority Higher Level Diploma subjects, Arabic A Literature, Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Computer Science, Digital Society and Pearson Edexcel Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 are thin in this market, and thinner at a particular evening slot. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit, which does not mean they do not have one. Our position is to name the limit and the expected wait, and where the specialist teaching your child's syllabus is based outside the UAE we say so rather than concealing it behind a phone number, which two of the researched pages do.

One further thing the sort cannot see is what the household actually needs. Sometimes the right recommendation is not a tutor at all: a physics student losing marks to algebra needs a mathematics block, a Diploma student with secure paper technique and a weak exploration needs supervision hours, and a Year 11 student who has never sat a full past paper under time needs a weekend rather than a term. Those recommendations are worth less to a provider than a long booking, which is a fair test of whether you are being advised or sold to.

06

Two children, two systems, one protected evening

  • Allocate the evening by where marks are being lost, not by fairness
  • Weekly for an exam-year IGCSE candidate; fortnightly for a Diploma Year 1 student
  • Full papers and coursework reviews belong at the weekend
  • Expect two separate quiet periods if the children are at two schools

This is the practical problem a household in this belt most often brings. School runs here are short, so children are home early and a 16:30 or 17:00 session is viable, which gives more usable evening than most Abu Dhabi communities have. It still has to serve two students with different needs, and the usual error is to split it evenly.

The better approach allocates by where marks are being lost rather than by fairness. An IGCSE candidate eight weeks from the June series needs weekly sessions and a full timed paper at the weekend. A Diploma student in Year 1 needs fortnightly sessions with a concentrated block around an internal deadline. Those two patterns fit together in one evening slot across alternating weeks, with the weekend carrying the long work. Splitting the slot equally every week serves neither.

Two scheduling notes specific to this belt. The weekend is where full papers and coursework reviews belong, because both are two-hour jobs that no school night will hold, and in a household with two students the weekend is the only place both can have one. And frequency should fall during each school's own assessment weeks, which in a two-school household means two separate quiet periods rather than one. Sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan on request, and nothing renews automatically, so a planned pause costs nothing. The one arrangement to avoid is booking both children into the same hour with one tutor alternating between them, which produces half a session each and a tutor who never sees either student work for long enough to diagnose anything.

07

What we measure, and the claims we will not make

  • IGCSE progress measured as classified losses on timed questions
  • Diploma progress measured against the published criteria by letter
  • Tutor changed at our cost, with a week-one checklist and a six-session review
  • No accreditation, statistics, examiner claims or grade promises

The unit of measurement depends on the system. For an IGCSE student it is timed questions with every lost mark classified as a method error, an accuracy error, a missed independent mark or genuine unknown content. For a Diploma student it is work marked against the published criteria, by letter. In both cases the report at six sessions names what has moved and what is still costing marks, in units you can check against your child's own papers. A report that says the student seems more confident is not a measurement, and confidence is the easiest thing in the world to manufacture.

If the match is wrong the tutor changes at our cost, and both the week-one checklist and the six-session review exist to make that routine rather than awkward. Nothing renews automatically. A family can take a free trial, keep the diagnosis, and never speak to us again, which is a legitimate use of the process on this page.

The claims we will not make matter on a page about verification. No grade or points promise, because both systems are externally assessed and the result belongs to the student on the day. No satisfaction percentage, score-improvement figure, student count or star rating, because none could be shown with a sample size, a date and a method; in the pages researched for this project one provider displayed two contradictory review totals on a single page. No examiner description for anyone whose status we cannot evidence. No accreditation from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no UAE premises. And on coursework, a tutor teaches the criteria, works comparable examples and gives feedback on your child's own drafts, and never produces the work; one provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments, and the malpractice consequences of that fall on the candidate.

Where we tutor

The radius a near me search covers from Al Bandar

Since the search sorts by distance, it is worth knowing what each distance band holds before deciding to ignore the sort order.

Al Bandar

Waterfront apartments and townhouses in Al Raha Beach. Short school runs mean children are often home early, so a 16:30 or 17:00 session is genuinely viable here, which is unusual in this emirate.

Al Muneera and Al Zeina

Neighbouring precincts with the same schools and the same tutor pool. Shortlists circulate between these communities, which is how an unexamined match becomes a local default.

Al Raha Gardens

Villas inland around an established international school, and the shortest commute in this geography. A good place to find a tutor who already works with several families in your child's year group.

Khalifa City

The base for most in-home tutors a family here will meet and the deepest resident pool on the mainland. Fifteen to twenty-five minutes depending on the hour.

Yas Island

Newer school provision across the bridge, adding Diploma and IGCSE capacity. Travel time at the evening peak is what shows up in an in-home quote rather than the distance itself.

Al Reem Island

A growing cluster with both IB and British-curriculum provision, between Al Raha Beach and the island centre. Worth checking which boards each school enters candidates with.

Saadiyat Island and the island centre

Several well-known schools and a large tutor pool at twenty-five to forty minutes. Adds names to a shortlist without changing what the funnel has to filter for.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Bandar

Al Raha Beach, Al Raha Gardens and Khalifa City

Yas Island, Al Reem Island and Saadiyat

  • Repton Abu Dhabi

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Email the school for the fact base

The syllabus code and tier for each IGCSE subject, or the IB subject and level, plus the exam centre and its Cambridge administrative zone where relevant. Nothing in the funnel works without these, and they cost one message to obtain.

  2. 02

    Ask us the availability question

Name the syllabus and level and we will say whether it is covered and how quickly, including when the answer is a wait or a no. Where the specialist is based outside the UAE we say so, because that is information rather than an inconvenience.

  3. 03

Run stage three, then take two trials

Three questions by message: component weightings, criteria by letter, named mark losses. Then two free trials in the same week on the same material, scored against the trial scorecard on this page. No card is required for either.

  4. 04

    Scope the block in writing

What it addresses, how many hours, and how it will be measured, agreed before the first paid session. For an IGCSE student that is timed questions and classified errors; for a Diploma student it is work marked against the published criteria.

  5. 05

Run the week-one checklist, review at six

After two sessions, check that a specific diagnosis exists in writing, that work happened between sessions, that the student knows what is next, and that something has been measured. If not, we change the tutor at our cost.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We give you a funnel, not a pitch

Four stages, from the school's fact base through the permit and three questions to a scored trial. It reduces thirty plausible names to two on evidence, and it works on us exactly as it works on anybody else in this market.

Two trials beat thirty profiles

One trial produces an impression; two in the same week on the same material produce a comparison. The scorecard here is observable and needs no subject knowledge, and the student does genuine work in both sessions either way.

A poor match surfaces in week one

The checklist after two sessions asks whether a specific diagnosis exists, whether it is written down, whether anything has been measured. Switching at that point costs almost nothing, which is the whole point of asking early.

Two systems are treated as two problems

IGCSE buys paper technique; the Diploma buys long-horizon coursework supervision. One tutor is rarely strong at both, so we match separately and map both assessment calendars side by side.

Coverage limits are disclosed

Minority Higher Level subjects, Arabic A Literature, the arts and Further Pure Mathematics are thin in this market. We name the wait, and where a specialist is based outside the UAE we say so rather than hiding it.

Nothing is claimed that cannot be checked

No accreditation, no UAE premises, no published statistics, no examiner claims we cannot evidence, no grade promises. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Bandar: your questions answered

How do I shortlist an IB or IGCSE tutor near Al Bandar when every profile looks the same?+

Use a four-stage funnel. Stage one, email the school for the syllabus code and tier or the IB subject and level, because every later question depends on it. Stage two, ask each tutor for the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free of charge for two years. Stage three, ask three questions: component weightings, Internal Assessment criteria by letter, and where candidates lose marks on this paper. Stage four, take two free trials and score them. Thirty names usually becomes two.

Is it worth running two trial sessions before choosing a tutor?+

Yes, and in the same week on the same material, because one trial gives an impression and two give a comparison. Hand both tutors the same marked paper or returned draft and watch for the same behaviours: whether they ask what the student already understands, whether they work from the actual evidence, who does the work, whether a specific next step is named, and whether the student speaks more in the second half. Our trials are free with no card required, and the student does genuine work in both.

What is the single best indicator in a trial session?+

Who is talking by the end. A session in which the tutor's share of the talking falls as the hour progresses is a session in which the student is being made to think, and that pattern predicts the next six months better than any credential. A session that ends with the tutor still explaining is a lecture, and a lecture is available free at school. Watch also for whether the tutor demonstrates while the student watches, since marks are earned by the student's own working.

How quickly should I expect to know whether the match is wrong?+

After two sessions. By then a specific diagnosis should exist, it should be written down, work should have happened between the sessions and been marked, the student should be able to say what comes next, the assessment calendar should have been mentioned, and something should have been measured in units you can check. If more than two of those are missing, raise it immediately. We change the tutor at our cost, and switching at week one costs almost nothing.

Should we hire one tutor for both systems, or two specialists?+

Occasionally, and usually not, for structural reasons rather than talent. IGCSE is assessed by written papers, so the skill is paper technique and mark-scheme fluency on specific components. The Diploma puts about a fifth of each subject grade in coursework produced at home over months, which demands patient supervision against published criteria without touching the work. Strength in one does not imply strength in the other, so test for each separately at stage three and expect to match two people.

How do I compare two children's assessment calendars in one household?+

Map them side by side before committing to any weekly pattern. Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November for UAE candidates, with the February and March series offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November. Diploma internal deadlines fall at intervals across two years and frequently land in an IGCSE sibling's mock season. Expect two separate quiet periods if the children attend two schools, since each school's assessment weeks differ.

Should the evening be split evenly between two children?+

No, allocate by where marks are being lost. An IGCSE candidate eight weeks from the June series needs weekly sessions plus a full timed paper at the weekend. A Diploma student in Year 1 needs fortnightly sessions with a concentrated block around an internal deadline. Those patterns interleave in one evening slot across alternating weeks, with the weekend carrying the long work. Splitting the slot equally every week serves neither child, and in this belt early school finishes make the interleaving easier than elsewhere.

What should I ask to check a tutor is permitted to work in the UAE?+

Ask to see the private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE's own service page listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A quoted permit fee or evasiveness about holding one removes a candidate from the list at stage two.

Why does proximity matter so little in this purchase?+

Because the syllabus is set by the board, the mark scheme is published by the board, and the grade boundaries apply identically to every candidate in the emirate. Distance affects convenience and the in-home price, where published rates run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. It has no effect on whether a tutor has prepared candidates on your child's paper, which is the variable that moves a grade and the one a distance sort cannot see.

A neighbour recommended someone. Is that a shortcut through the funnel?+

It is a shortcut through stage two and no further. A recommendation tells you about reliability and manner, both of which matter, and nothing about whether the tutor has prepared candidates on your child's syllabus and level. In this belt the same well-liked generalist often teaches several households across different boards and year groups. Take the name gratefully, then run stage three and the scored trial anyway, because your child may sit a different paper from the neighbour's.

What if stage three eliminates everybody on my list?+

Then the specialism is scarce rather than your standards being high. Minority Higher Level Diploma subjects, Arabic A Literature, the arts, Computer Science, Digital Society and Pearson Edexcel Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 are thin in this market, and thinner at a specific evening slot. Our answer in that situation is to name the expected wait and the nearest alternative with the difference explained, and to say plainly where a specialist is based outside the UAE. An approximate match discovered in session four is worse.

Could the right answer be no tutor at all?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking. A physics student losing marks to algebra needs a mathematics block rather than a second subscription. A Diploma student with secure paper technique and a weak exploration needs supervision hours rather than teaching hours. A Year 11 student who has never sat a full past paper to time needs a weekend, not a term. Those answers are worth less to a provider than a long booking, so whether you are offered one is a reasonable test of the advice.

What will a progress report from you contain?+

For an IGCSE student, classified losses: every mark lost on a timed paper recorded as a method error, an accuracy error, a missed independent mark or genuine unknown content, with the same question types re-sat after the targeted work. For a Diploma student, work marked against the published criteria by letter. At six sessions you receive a written statement of what has moved and what is still costing marks, checkable against your child's own papers. If the match is wrong we change the tutor at our cost.

Do you publish success rates or ratings I can compare?+

No, deliberately, and you should be wary of those that are published. In the pages researched for this project, one provider displayed two different review totals on the same page and another showed a perfect score from twenty reviews next to a far larger claim about students taught. Self-asserted rating markup breaches Google's structured-data policy and is a consumer-protection exposure as a commercial representation. We publish no rating, student count or satisfaction figure, because none could be shown with a sample size, a date and a method.

Run the funnel, then decide

The crowded market around Al Bandar is an advantage once you have a filter. Email the school for your child's syllabus code and tier, or the IB subject and level. Ask each candidate for the MoHRE permit. Ask the three questions: what is each component worth, name the Internal Assessment criteria by letter, and where do candidates lose marks on this paper. Then take two free trials in the same week on the same material and score them on who was doing the thinking by the end. No card is required for either, and the student gets useful work out of both. After two sessions, run the week-one checklist.
