IB Maths Tutor in Al Bandar

Families hiring an IB maths tutor in Al Bandar are rarely price-constrained, which creates a different problem: in this market the top rate is quoted at AED 650 an hour and the mid band at AED 150 to 300, and almost nothing published explains the difference. This page audits the premium tier honestly, separates what changes a grade from what only changes the invoice, and shows which claims can actually be verified before you pay. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Bandar

When budget is not the constraint, the constraint is information

Al Bandar is a waterfront community inside the Al Raha Beach development, close to several of the emirate's better-known Diploma schools, and families here are usually weighing quality rather than affordability. That sounds like an easier problem than it is. The published rates in this market span a factor of twenty, from AED 33 an hour at the budget end to AED 650 at the top, and almost nothing in the public record explains what separates them. In the absence of information, price becomes a proxy for quality, which is precisely the condition under which a market overcharges.

Here are the bands with their sources, because this page would be worthless without them. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. Specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate showing AED 200 to 450 plus for exam-year specialists. Premium named or examiner-led provision reaches AED 500 to 650 and beyond, with BartyED publishing AED 650. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500.

What a higher band reliably buys is narrower than the marketing suggests. It buys mark-scheme fluency: someone who can look at a student's working and say why a correct answer scored two out of four, which is a genuinely different skill from explaining the mathematics. It does not buy access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, it does not buy an outcome, and it does not make a Standard Level student into a Higher Level one. Those distinctions are worth real money in a household that can afford either option, because the common error here is not underspending. It is spending the premium band on work the mid band does identically.

The second information gap is credentials. In a market where examiner-led is used as a selling phrase, a parent is entitled to ask what can actually be verified. Some claims are checkable in a minute: the MoHRE private tuition work permit, the route and level taught to examination, the component weightings, the Internal Assessment criteria by letter. Others cannot be independently verified by a parent at all, and a provider who presents the second kind as though it were the first is doing something worth noticing. This page sorts them.

One statement of model. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Al Bandar is one of the easier places in the emirate to arrange an in-home tutor, so the case for online here is not logistics: it is that the specialist you want for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level may not live within driving distance, and at the published bands you would be paying a travel premium on top. We publish no rate card. The trial lesson is free with no card required, and a quote follows the diagnosis.

At a glance

  • Published bands in this market run from roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour
  • A higher band buys mark-scheme fluency, not access or outcomes
  • Examiner status cannot be independently verified by a parent
  • The permit, the components and the criteria can all be checked in minutes
  • Switching tutors mid-Diploma has a real cost, and it rises with timing
  • IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The value of a premium rate depends entirely on where in the Diploma a student sits. These are the three positions, and what the extra money does in each.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Year 1 mathematics

The year in which the mid band and the premium band do almost identical work. Content is being met for the first time, habits are being formed, and the exploration is being scoped. A clear explainer at AED 200 an hour achieves what a named specialist at AED 650 achieves, because nothing here requires examiner-level mark-scheme forensics.

Al Bandar students attend Diploma schools across the Al Raha Beach, Khalifa City, Yas Island and island clusters, mostly within a short drive. The practical advantage of starting in Year 1 is not cost but sequencing: the exploration is supervised while it is being written, which is the part of the grade a later intervention cannot reach.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Year 2 mathematics

Where a premium rate can genuinely be worth it, and only for a specific job. A student whose content is secure and who is stuck between grade bands is usually losing marks to method presentation, pacing and the specific demands of Paper 3 at Higher Level. Diagnosing that precisely is the skill the top bands are selling.

This is also the year families in this belt most often switch tutors, usually after disappointing mocks. Switching has a cost that rises as the year progresses, because a new tutor spends the first sessions learning the student rather than teaching them, and that cost is set out in a table further down.

Pre-DPAges 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, before the route is fixed

Two to four diagnostic hours to settle Analysis and Approaches against Applications and Interpretation, and Standard against Higher. The cheapest high-value purchase in the whole programme, at any band. A student in the wrong route or the wrong level consumes premium support for two years and still finishes below where the right placement would have left them.

Schools in this belt vary in which routes and levels they can timetable, so the decision is partly a question of what is actually on offer. Ask the school directly which combinations run, then decide against the published entry requirements of the universities your child is aiming at rather than against reputation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What the premium band is worth varies by component and subject. Each entry below says where a specialist rate earns its difference and where it does not.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Two papers at forty per cent each, one without a calculator, plus the exploration at twenty. Almost all the available gain is non-calculator fluency and method presentation, both of which the mid band teaches as well as the top band.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty per cent, plus the exploration at twenty. Paper 3 is the one component where forensic mark-scheme knowledge genuinely earns a premium, because the marks turn on how an unfamiliar problem is approached.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Calculator permitted in both papers, each at forty per cent, exploration at twenty. The cheapest course in the programme to support well; paying a premium rate here is the clearest example of buying invoice rather than grade.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Three papers plus the exploration, with heavier statistics and modelling. Specialist supply is thinner than for Analysis and Approaches, so a higher rate here sometimes reflects scarcity rather than superior teaching, which is a different thing to be paying for.

The mathematics exploration

SL and HL

Twenty marks and about a fifth of the subject grade. Supervision is worth paying well for and only at the right moment: while the topic is being chosen and the mathematics written. Premium hours in the final fortnight buy anxiety management rather than marks.

IB Physics

SL and HL

Often bought alongside maths at the same premium rate when the real problem is algebra. Testing that first is free and frequently removes the need for the second subscription entirely, which is not advice a provider benefits from giving.

IB Chemistry

SL and HL

Quantitative chemistry rewards a numerate student quickly, so mid-band teaching tends to produce the same gain as premium teaching. The scientific investigation, like the maths exploration, is worth supervising early rather than expensively.

IB Economics

SL and HL

Higher Level carries more quantitative work. The marks turn on the explain-versus-evaluate distinction and on diagram accuracy, both of which are coachable at the mid band by anyone who has marked the papers.

IB Computer Science

SL and HL

Genuinely scarce at Higher Level in this market, which means a higher quoted rate may simply be the price of availability. Worth paying, and worth recognising for what it is rather than treating as a quality signal.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and International Mathematics 0607

Core and Extended

Relevant as the run-up for a younger sibling. A student arriving in the Diploma from 0607 Extended already has the investigative habit the exploration rewards; one arriving from 0580 usually needs it built, which is a short Year 11 block.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases, priced by what they are for rather than by how impressive they sound. All are one-to-one over live video.

Diagnostic and route check

Two to four hours establishing which route and level fit, and what is actually costing marks. It separates algebraic fluency from problem solving and interpretation, because a student strong in one and weak in the other belongs in a specific course. Ends with a written recommendation and no obligation.

  • Questions from both routes, sat under time
  • Method watched as it forms rather than marked afterwards
  • Written route and level recommendation with reasoning
  • Free trial first, no card required

Fortnightly through both Diploma years

The structure that does most of the work at the mid band. Roughly forty hours across twenty-four months, with the exploration supervised while it is being written and frequency rising before internal deadlines. The premium band adds little here, which is the single most useful thing a page about pricing can say.

  • Exploration criteria taught early, in Diploma Year 1
  • Paper technique added from the middle of Year 2
  • Hours planned at the start so the total is predictable
  • Frequency reduced during school assessment weeks

Final-term component repair

Eight to twelve hours aimed at named components, which is the one place a specialist rate earns its difference. For a Higher Level student stuck between bands, Paper 3 technique and method presentation are forensic work: the tutor is reading the student's script the way a marker would and saying exactly where the marks went.

  • Papers sat to full duration, then read against the scheme
  • Paper 3 approach built over weeks rather than drilled
  • Non-calculator discipline handled separately for Analysis and Approaches
  • Named components, written down before the block starts

The AED 650 question: auditing the premium band

The top of this market is quoted at AED 500 to 650 an hour and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650, against a mid band of roughly AED 150 to 300 where Unitors lists IB from AED 200. A household that can pay either rate deserves a straight answer about the difference, and the straight answer is that the premium buys one specific capability plus two things that are not capabilities at all.

The capability is mark-scheme forensics. Someone who has marked the paper can look at a student's script and say that the second line lost the method mark, that the final answer was penalised for form rather than value, or that the approach taken to an unfamiliar Paper 3 problem was reasonable but unrewardable. That is a different skill from explaining mathematics clearly, and it is the thing a student stuck between grade bands with secure content actually needs. In the final term of Higher Level, it is worth paying for.

The two things that are not capabilities are scarcity and reputation. A scarce specialism costs more because few people teach it, which is a real cost and not a quality signal. A recognised name costs more because the name is recognised. Neither improves the teaching, and neither buys access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, which nobody can sell and nobody should imply. The table sets out where each band earns its difference, and the honest conclusion is that for most of a Diploma the mid band and the premium band do the same work.

What changes a grade against what changes the invoice

This is the distinction a well-funded household most needs, because almost everything on sale sounds like it belongs in the first column. The things that reliably change an IB maths grade are unglamorous: visible method, so partial credit is earned when the final answer fails; pacing, so the back of the paper is reached with time to think; non-calculator fluency for Analysis and Approaches; approach strategy for Paper 3 at Higher Level; and an exploration written to the criteria rather than written and then checked against them.

The things that change the invoice without reliably changing the grade are also identifiable. More hours of the same teaching the school already provides. A premium rate applied to Standard Level content coverage. Sessions in the week before papers, which produce calm rather than marks. A second subject bought when the losses in both are caused by the same algebra. And the switch to a new tutor late in Year 2, which starts the relationship over at the worst possible moment.

A household that can afford to ignore price is still better off knowing which column it is buying from, because the two columns compete for the same evenings. A student has a finite number of usable study hours and every hour spent on the second column is unavailable to the first. That, rather than money, is the real constraint in this community, and it is the reason this page argues for fewer, better-aimed hours instead of more.

Which credential claims can a parent actually verify?

  • Checkable: the MoHRE permit, free of charge for two years
  • Checkable: route and level taught to examination, with dates
  • Checkable: component weightings and criteria by letter
  • Not verifiable by a parent: current examiner status
  • Not verifiable: satisfaction percentages, student counts and star ratings
  • Checkable and usually overstated: regulator approval, which needs a permit number

In a market that sells examiner-led as a phrase, the honest division is between claims a parent can check and claims they cannot. Checkable in minutes: the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years, with no fee and a stated two-working-day completion time. Also checkable: which route and level the tutor has taught to examination and when, the component weightings, and the exploration criteria by letter with their mark allocations. Those four answers, given quickly and precisely, tell you most of what you need.

Not verifiable by a parent: current examiner status. A provider may describe a tutor as an examiner, and you have no mechanism to confirm it, which is why we do not use the term for anyone whose status we cannot evidence, and why examiner status should never be presented as implying access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. Nobody has that access to sell. Equally unverifiable are self-published satisfaction percentages, student counts and star ratings; in the pages researched for this project one provider showed two contradictory review totals on a single page and another showed a perfect score from twenty reviews alongside a far larger claim about students taught.

Then there are claims that are checkable and usually false. Regulator approval is a specific thing: in Dubai a tutoring operation with premises and staff requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal; in Abu Dhabi private schools are regulated by ADEK, which supervises their licensing and accreditation. Neither body certifies online tutoring platforms, so ask for a permit number and the issuing body. For the record, IB Gram holds no licence, approval, certification or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International or Pearson, and has no office or centre in the UAE.

The cost of switching tutors mid-Diploma

Families in this belt switch tutors more often than families elsewhere, partly because they have more options and partly because expectations are higher. Switching is sometimes exactly the right decision and it is never free, and the cost is almost entirely about timing rather than about money. A new tutor spends the first two or three sessions learning the student: how they write, what they skip, which gaps are real and which are confidence. In Diploma Year 1 that cost is trivial. In the spring of Year 2 it is most of the remaining runway.

The honest guidance is to make the decision early and then stop making it. If after six sessions the tutor has not produced a specific account of what is costing marks, measured on timed questions, that is a switch worth making immediately. If the complaint is about manner rather than substance, and the student is making measurable progress, switching usually costs more than it returns. The hardest case is the competent tutor who is not quite right: the losses are gradual and invisible, and most families persist through politeness.

We build a review at six sessions into every arrangement precisely to remove the politeness problem, and we change the tutor at our cost when the match is wrong. The table below prices the switch by timing so a family can make the decision with its real cost visible rather than guessing. The one pattern to avoid entirely is switching twice in Year 2, which consumes the remaining weeks in two separate learning curves and tends to leave a student worse prepared than either tutor would have left them.

05

What the extra level costs: Higher against Standard

Parents in this community frequently ask whether to push for Higher Level, and the question has a support cost attached that rarely enters the conversation. Standard Level in Analysis and Approaches is two papers at forty per cent each, one of them without a calculator, with the exploration at twenty. Higher Level is three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty per cent, with the exploration again at twenty. Applications and Interpretation follows the same shape, with a calculator permitted throughout at Standard Level.

The extra paper is not simply more of the same. Paper 3 rewards sustained work on an unfamiliar problem, which cannot be drilled from a topic list and has to be built over months. That means a Higher Level student needs support spread across two years rather than concentrated before the papers, and it means the final-term work is forensic rather than instructional. Both of those push the cost up, and the second is the one place where the premium band genuinely earns its rate.

The decision should rest on evidence rather than ambition. A student whose algebraic fluency is secure and who enjoys unfamiliar problems belongs at Higher Level and will be fine. A student who is capable but needs structure and worked examples may well score better at Standard Level and arrive at university with a stronger transcript. A 4 at Higher Level is worth less to almost every application than a 6 at Standard Level, and no amount of expensive support changes the arithmetic of that. Check what the specific university programmes your child is aiming at publish, in the year they will apply, rather than inheriting a view about prestige.

06

The twenty marks that go cheap early and expensive late

  • The exploration is 20 marks and about a fifth of the subject grade
  • Its cost depends on timing far more than on the hourly rate
  • Supervision in Diploma Year 1 is cheap and decisive
  • No rate buys work the student has not produced themselves

The exploration is worth about a fifth of the maths grade, marked out of 20, and it is written at home across months. That makes it the one part of the grade whose cost depends almost entirely on when support is bought rather than at what rate. Supervision while the topic is being chosen and the mathematics written is inexpensive and decisive. Supervision in the fortnight before submission is expensive, stressful and mostly cosmetic, because the topic is fixed and the thinking has already happened.

In a community where premium rates are normal, this produces a specific and avoidable pattern: a family pays the top band in the spring of Year 2 for help that arrives after a fifth of the grade has been settled. The same household could have spent a fraction of that in Diploma Year 1, on the only occasion when the exploration could still be shaped. The marks are not more expensive later; they are simply no longer available.

The boundary on that help is fixed regardless of rate. A tutor teaches what each criterion rewards, works a comparable example on a different topic, and gives feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor does not choose the topic, supply text, or edit a draft until the thinking has stopped being the student's. One provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price, and the malpractice consequences of that purchase fall on the candidate rather than the seller. No band of spending changes that boundary, and a provider who offers to cross it for enough money is selling the student's diploma.

07

Package terms, siblings, and what we will not claim

  • Ask four questions about any package: rollover, validity, transferability, tutor change
  • Progress measured on timed questions and work marked against criteria
  • No grade promises, statistics, examiner claims or accreditation
  • Tutor changed at our cost if the match is wrong, reviewed at six sessions

Monthly packages in this market sit around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, and the headline is the least important part of any of them. Ask whether unused sessions roll over, how long the package remains valid, whether hours can move between subjects or between siblings, and what happens if the tutor changes mid-package. A package that cannot flex around internal deadlines, school assessment weeks, family travel and Ramadan is cheaper per hour and dearer per useful hour. We also do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that would require a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an assumption.

On measurement, the standard here is timed questions and marked work rather than impressions. A cold paper or a draft marked against the published criteria at the start, the same components re-measured after the block, and at six sessions a written statement of what has moved and which components are still costing marks. If the match is wrong we change the tutor at our cost. Nothing renews automatically, and a household that wants only the diagnosis can take it and stop.

And the claims we will not make, which matter more on a page about premium pricing than anywhere else. No grade or points promise: the Diploma is externally assessed, the maximum is 45 points with 24 required for the award, and the result belongs to the student on the day. No satisfaction percentage, score-improvement figure, student count or star rating, because none could be shown with a sample size, a date and a method. No examiner description for anyone whose status we cannot evidence, and no suggestion that any tutor has access to marking, boundaries or paper content. No accreditation from any regulator or board, and no UAE premises. On a page arguing that information is the real constraint in this market, those omissions are the point.

Where we tutor

Al Bandar and the precincts that share its market

These communities share schools, tutors and price expectations with Al Bandar, which is why rate inflation spreads across them quickly.

Al Bandar

Waterfront apartments and townhouses within Al Raha Beach, minutes from several Diploma schools. Short journeys mean in-home quotes sit at the lower end of the AED 180 to 500 band, which removes the usual logistical argument and leaves the pricing one.

Al Muneera and Al Zeina

Adjacent Al Raha Beach precincts with the same schools and the same tutor pool. Rate expectations travel between these communities quickly, which is how a premium quote becomes the local norm without anyone testing what it buys.

Al Raha Gardens

Villas just inland with one of the emirate's established international schools. The shortest Diploma commute available here, and a common destination for Al Bandar families.

Khalifa City

The deepest pool of resident teaching staff on the mainland. Most in-home tutors a family here meets are based in or near this area, and the short drive is why in-home premiums are modest in this belt.

Yas Island

Newer school provision across the bridge. Adds Diploma options and, at the evening peak, adds travel time that shows up in an in-home quote even over a short distance.

Al Reem Island

A growing school cluster between Al Raha Beach and the island centre, with both IB and British-curriculum provision. Worth checking for which maths routes and levels are actually timetabled.

Saadiyat Island

Several well-known Diploma schools and a deep tutor pool twenty-five to forty minutes away. Premium rates are most visible here, and the premium does not follow the postcode in any measurable way.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the route, the level and the year

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher, Diploma Year 1 or 2. Those three facts determine whether the mid band will do the job or whether a specialist rate is genuinely warranted, and we will say which rather than default upwards.

  2. 02

Free trial used as a diagnostic

A working session with no card required. The tutor separates algebraic fluency from problem solving, watches the method as it forms, and identifies the components costing marks. You can also run the credential questions on them during it: weightings, criteria by letter, route taught to examination, and the permit.

  3. 03

A written plan that names the band

The plan states which work sits in the mid band and which, if any, genuinely needs a specialist rate, with the hours counted. For most of a Diploma the honest answer is the mid band, and saying so in writing is the difference between advice and sales.

  4. 04

Hours placed where they are worth most

Fortnightly through Year 1 with the exploration supervised while it is written, concentrated blocks before internal deadlines, and forensic component work only in the final term. Sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan on request.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions, switch early if needed

Progress reported on timed questions and marked work. If the match is wrong we change the tutor at our cost, and we would rather do that in Year 1 than in the spring of Year 2, when a switch costs most of the remaining runway.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We say where the premium band is not worth paying

For most of a Diploma, the mid band at AED 150 to 300 does the same work as the top band at AED 500 to 650. The exception is forensic final-term component repair at Higher Level. That is not a comfortable thing to publish, which is why so few pages do.

Grade-moving work is separated from invoice-moving work

Visible method, pacing, non-calculator fluency, Paper 3 approach and an exploration written to the criteria move grades. Extra general content hours, premium rates on Standard Level coverage and sessions the week before papers do not.

Credential claims are sorted into checkable and not

The MoHRE permit, the components, the criteria and the teaching history can all be verified in minutes. Current examiner status cannot be verified by a parent, so we do not use the term for anyone whose status we cannot evidence.

Switching is priced by timing

A switch in the first term of Diploma Year 1 costs one or two sessions. A switch in the spring of Year 2 costs most of the remaining runway. Knowing that turns a vague worry into a decision, and a six-session review makes it routine.

Every AED figure names its source

Each band on this page cites the provider that published it and the research date. None of the competitor pages measured for this project cites a source for a single AED figure, and three publish no price at all.

Nothing is claimed that cannot be checked

No grade promises, no published statistics, no examiner claims we cannot evidence, no accreditation and no UAE premises. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Bandar: your questions answered

Is an AED 650 an hour IB maths tutor worth it for an Al Bandar family?+

For most of a Diploma, no. The top of this market is published at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED at AED 650, while the qualified subject-tutor band runs AED 150 to 300 with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. What the premium reliably adds is mark-scheme forensics: reading a script the way a marker would and saying exactly where the marks went. That is worth paying for in the final term of Higher Level, when content is secure and the gap is technique. It adds little to Year 1 teaching.

What exactly does a higher hourly rate buy in IB mathematics?+

One capability and two things that are not capabilities. The capability is mark-scheme fluency, which is a different skill from explaining mathematics clearly: it is the ability to say that the second line lost the method mark, or that an approach to an unfamiliar Paper 3 problem was reasonable but unrewardable. The two non-capabilities are scarcity, which is a real cost but not a quality signal, and reputation. No band buys access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, because nobody has that to sell.

Can I verify that a tutor is really an IB examiner?+

Not independently, which is why we do not use the term for anyone whose status we cannot evidence. A parent has no mechanism to confirm current examiner status, and the phrase should never be presented as implying access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. What you can verify in minutes is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which route and level the tutor has taught to examination and when, the component weightings for the course, and the exploration criteria by letter with their mark allocations.

Which activities actually move an IB maths grade?+

Visible method, so partial credit is earned when a final answer fails. Pacing, so the back of the paper is reached with time to think. Non-calculator fluency for Analysis and Approaches. Approach strategy for Paper 3 at Higher Level. And an exploration written to the criteria rather than written and then checked against them. What does not reliably move a grade is more hours of general content teaching, a premium rate applied to Standard Level coverage, or sessions in the week before the papers.

We are in Diploma Year 2 and considering a new maths tutor. Should we switch?+

Only on evidence, and the cost rises as the year progresses. A new tutor spends two or three sessions learning the student, which is trivial in Year 1 and most of the remaining runway in the spring of Year 2. Switch immediately if nobody has produced a specific account of what is costing marks, measured on timed questions. If progress is measurable and the complaint is about manner, switching usually costs more than it returns. Avoid switching twice in Year 2 entirely.

Should we push for Higher Level maths if we can afford the support?+

Support is not the deciding factor, and affordability can obscure that. Higher Level adds a third paper, and Paper 3 rewards sustained work on unfamiliar problems that has to be built over months rather than drilled. A student with secure algebraic fluency who enjoys unfamiliar problems belongs there. A capable student who needs structure and worked examples often scores better at Standard Level, and a 4 at Higher Level is worth less to almost every application than a 6 at Standard. Check what your target programmes publish.

When is the right moment to pay for exploration supervision?+

While the topic is being chosen and the mathematics written, which is usually Diploma Year 1 into the first part of Year 2. The exploration is about a fifth of the subject grade, marked out of 20 across five criteria, and produced at home over months. Bought early it is inexpensive and decisive. Bought in the fortnight before submission it is expensive and mostly cosmetic, because the topic is fixed and the thinking has already happened. The marks are not dearer later; they are simply no longer available.

Does paying more ever make an exploration eligible for more help?+

No. The boundary is fixed at every rate. A tutor teaches what each criterion rewards, works a comparable example on a different topic, and gives feedback on your child's own draft. Choosing the topic, supplying text or editing a draft until the thinking is no longer theirs crosses into malpractice, and the consequences fall on the candidate rather than on whoever was paid. One provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price, which is a reason to avoid them at any budget.

Why would an in-home tutor cost more in Al Bandar when the drive is short?+

Because travel is inside the price even when the journey is modest. Published in-home rates across Abu Dhabi run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Short journeys from Khalifa City and the Al Raha belt put Al Bandar at the lower end of the in-home range rather than outside it, so the premium shrinks and does not vanish. The stronger argument for online here is breadth: the right Higher Level specialist may not live within driving distance.

Which package terms decide whether a monthly IB maths arrangement is good value?+

Four things the headline price does not cover. Whether unused sessions roll over. How long the package remains valid. Whether hours can move between subjects or between siblings. And what happens if the tutor changes mid-package. Market packages sit around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. A package that cannot flex around internal deadlines, school assessment weeks and family travel is cheaper per hour and dearer per useful hour.

My child has maths and physics tutors at the same premium rate. Is that necessary?+

Often not, and it is free to test. Where physics marks are being lost to algebra rather than to concepts, a mathematics repair block improves the physics grade and the second arrangement adds cost without adding gain. The test is a diagnostic session on the physics work that classifies the losses: if most of them are rearrangement, substitution and units rather than conceptual, the maths tutor is the physics intervention. That advice is worth less to us than two bookings, which is a reasonable reason to trust it.

Are the satisfaction figures and ratings on premium tutoring sites reliable?+

Treat them as unverifiable unless they carry a sample size, a date and a method. In the pages researched for this project, one provider displayed two different review totals on the same page, and another showed a perfect score from twenty reviews next to a far larger claim about students taught. Self-asserted rating markup is against Google's structured-data policy and is a consumer-protection exposure as a commercial representation. We publish no such figures, which on a premium-priced page is the more informative choice.

If money is not the constraint, what is?+

Hours. A Diploma student has a finite number of usable study evenings, and every hour spent on work that changes the invoice is unavailable for work that changes the grade. That is why this page argues for fewer, better-aimed sessions rather than more: visible method, pacing, non-calculator fluency, Paper 3 approach work and an exploration written to the criteria. A household able to buy any band still has to choose which column of work it is filling those evenings with.

Will you tell us if the mid band is enough rather than selling the specialist rate?+

Yes, in writing, as part of the plan. For most of a Diploma the honest answer is that the mid band does the same work, and the exception is forensic component repair in the final term at Higher Level. Saying so costs us revenue, which is exactly why it belongs on the page rather than in a conversation. We also publish no grade promises, no statistics we cannot evidence and no accreditation claims, because the argument here is that information is what this market is short of.

Buy the diagnosis, then buy the right band

If budget is not your constraint, the useful first step is still the cheap one. Tell us the route, the level and the Diploma year, then take a free trial lesson with no card required. The tutor will separate algebraic fluency from problem solving, name the components costing marks, and say plainly whether this is mid-band work or genuinely needs a specialist rate. You can run the credential questions in the same session: component weightings, exploration criteria by letter, route taught to examination, and the MoHRE permit. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and if the written diagnosis is all you want, take it.
