IB Home Tutor in Saadiyat Island

Families looking for an IB home tutor in Saadiyat Island are usually weighing a number: what does a tutor at the villa cost, and is it worth the premium over the alternatives. This page answers that in dirhams, with every figure attributed, and then states plainly that IB Gram delivers to Saadiyat Island as one-to-one live online tuition rather than as a visit. The comparison is left for you to make.

IB & IGCSE in Saadiyat Island

The number nobody in this market will print

Three of the six best-ranked tutoring pages for Abu Dhabi queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no family on Saadiyat Island actually transacts in. One of them has a frequently asked question that asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. That gap is the reason this page opens with dirhams rather than with reassurance.

Here are the bands, each attributed. In-home one-to-one visits across the Emirates are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with the Bestimate Dubai rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. A qualified subject tutor online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and TutorChase quoting around AED 270. Student tutors online start lower, from AED 33 to 65.

The gap between the in-home band and the online band is not a quality gap. A substantial part of it is the car. A tutor driving to a Saadiyat Beach villa from the mainland is pricing the journey into the hour, and on an island reached by bridges that journey is not trivial at four in the afternoon. You are buying a tutor's travel time at the same rate as their teaching time.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, or anywhere else in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. What we deliver to Saadiyat Island is one-to-one teaching over live video, which removes the travel component from the price and, more usefully, removes it from the choice of tutor. That second effect is worth more than the first and almost nobody frames it that way.

The rest of this page is arithmetic rather than argument. What the travel premium buys when it is worth buying. The full Abu Dhabi market as a monthly figure rather than an hourly one. Where families reliably waste money, which is a longer list than the one on which they save it. A two-year Diploma budget. Who may legally tutor in Abu Dhabi and how you check. And what a free trial lesson should tell you before anything is paid.

One note on honesty before the numbers. None of the figures below is an IB Gram price list. We publish the market so you can measure any quote against it, including ours, and so that a provider refusing to name a number has to explain why. A page that shows its sources is more useful than a page that shows confidence, and it lets you do the arithmetic yourself rather than take anybody's word for it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost per useful hour varies enormously across the IB continuum, and families routinely spend most where the return is lowest. These are the four stages and what each is actually worth paying for.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external assessment, so nothing is urgent and nothing should be expensive. The genuine need at this stage is arithmetic fluency and sentence construction, both of which respond to short frequent practice rather than to subject expertise. The budget band is the right band here, and spending at the specialist band is money with nowhere useful to go.

Saadiyat Island primary pupils are mostly at schools on the island or a short drive across the bridge, so they are home early and have capacity. Two twenty-minute sessions a week at the lower market band is a few hundred dirhams a month and is the single best-value tutoring a Saadiyat family will ever buy, precisely because nothing is at stake yet.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each out of eight, converted into a one-to-seven grade. The paid work worth doing here is criterion coaching, which is a qualified-teacher skill rather than an examiner one. That puts the right spend in the middle band, roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour on published market rates, and rarely above it.

Middle Years families on Saadiyat Island often buy too late and then too much. A single weekly hour across a year costs less in total than an exam-term intensive and builds the criterion-reading skill the Diploma will test again at seventeen. The Personal Project year is the one place a few specialist hours at the start are genuinely worth the higher band.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity Activity Service. This is where specialist rates make arithmetic sense, because a named component weakness in a Higher Level paper needs somebody who teaches that paper. Two hours at the right band beats twelve at the wrong one, consistently.

Abu Dhabi Diploma students on Saadiyat Island typically finish between 15:00 and 15:45 and face a bridge crossing if they attend a mainland school. That makes a 17:00 or 19:30 online slot far more reliable than a visit timed around traffic, and it removes the risk of paying for an hour that starts twenty minutes late.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Diploma courses combined with career-related study and a reflective project. Rare in Abu Dhabi, but where it runs the Diploma courses inside it are examined on the same papers with the same weightings and the same Internal Assessments, so the cost of supporting them is the cost of supporting a Diploma subject.

Few Abu Dhabi schools run the Career-related Programme, so Saadiyat Island families are usually comparing the Diploma against A Levels or an American diploma. If your child is on it, say so when asking for a quote, because a provider pricing it as something lighter than the Diploma has misunderstood what is being examined.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per hour is the same across subjects in this market; cost per grade point is not. These are the subjects Saadiyat Island families ask about, with the part of each that justifies paying for expertise.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level adds Paper 3, a fifth of the grade and unlike anything at Standard Level. That paper is the clearest case in the Diploma for paying the specialist band, because format practice with mark-scheme reading cannot be improvised by a general mathematics tutor.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-dependent throughout, with statistics and modelling carrying the content. A large share of lost marks is calculator fluency rather than mathematics, which is cheap to fix and therefore poor value at premium rates. Middle band, drilled properly, is the right purchase.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent across multiple-choice and data-based sections, Paper 2 forty-four, the investigation twenty. Uncertainty propagation and gradient interpretation are specialist territory; general problem practice is not, and families often buy the second while needing the first.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and equilibrium carry Higher Level difficulty. The habitual mark loss is moles arithmetic written without units, which is a discipline problem fixable at the middle band. Paying specialist rates to correct unit discipline is the most common overspend in this subject.

Biology

HL and SL

High volume, and the marks turn on terminology precision rather than on understanding. Short timed recall work delivers most of the available improvement and does not require an examiner. The investigation and the data-based section are where expertise earns its premium.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy is the most reliably available mark in the course and the cheapest to fix. Higher Level adds Paper 3, a quantitative policy paper, where a specialist is worth paying for because the arithmetic demand is specific and drillable rather than general.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Two papers plus the Individual Oral, with an additional essay at Higher Level. The Individual Oral is the component most under-prepared and the one where a few expert hours change most, because it is a rehearsed ten-minute argument rather than an informal conversation.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP candidates

A sixteen-hundred-word essay on a prescribed title plus an exhibition of three objects. A small number of hours spent on argument structure and on choosing real specific examples is unusually good value, because almost nobody receives any targeted teaching on it at school.

Extended Essay

Core, all DP candidates

Four thousand words of supervised independent research, combining with Theory of Knowledge for up to three bonus points. The marks are decided in the first fortnight by the research question, which makes early hours worth several times what late hours are worth on this component.

Arabic as an additional language

MYP and DP ab initio or B

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools, and commonly treated as compliance until a grade matters. Regular short oral practice at the budget band is the realistic intervention, and it is much cheaper the year before it becomes urgent.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats at three price points. The useful question is not which is cheapest but which matches the problem you actually have, because a mismatch is how families spend a great deal and move nothing.

Weekly one-to-one, year round

One subject, one hour a week, started early rather than in the panic window. At published market rates for a qualified subject tutor online, roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, that is an outgoing of about AED 600 to 1,200 a month on Bestimate's mid-band estimate. It is the lowest total cost per grade point available in this market, and the least popular choice.

  • Follows the school's own scheme of work through the year
  • Roughly AED 600-1,200 a month at published mid-band rates
  • Removes the exam-term panic purchase, which is the most expensive hour
  • Rescheduling without charge up to the stated notice period

Component block, four to six sessions

A defined run on one named thing: Paper 3 technique, an Internal Assessment from question to final draft by the student, the Individual Oral rehearsed properly. Priced as a block so you know the total before starting. This is where specialist rates earn their premium, because the job is narrow and the expertise is specific.

  • Fixed number of sessions with a stated total, not an open subscription
  • Diagnosed from a marked script before the block is agreed
  • Specialist band justified by a narrow, named objective
  • Ends with a written summary of what changed and what has not

Exam-term intensive

Two or three sessions a week from mock results to the papers, working on conversion rather than coverage. The most expensive format per week and sometimes the right one. At published specialist rates it runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above a month on Bestimate's exam-year band, which is worth knowing before you commit rather than after.

  • Built from the student's own mock script and its lost marks
  • AED 1,000-2,000+ a month at published specialist bands
  • Timed sections and mark-scheme reading, not content coverage
  • Pausable during the school's own study-leave weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Saadiyat Island

01

Can you get an IB home tutor in Saadiyat Island, and what does it cost

Yes, in-home tutoring exists on Saadiyat Island, and the market price for it is knowable. Independent tutors and agencies quote roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour for a one-to-one visit across the Emirates, with Bestimate's rate table at AED 180 to 350 and individual home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages seen in the market run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions.

On an island reached by bridges, those figures carry a particular meaning. A mainland tutor driving to a Saadiyat Beach villa or to Mamsha Al Saadiyat at four in the afternoon is spending real time on the road, and that time is priced into the hour. The same tutor quoting the same rate to a Khalifa City family is selling a materially larger share of teaching per dirham. Nobody itemises this, and it is most of the premium.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and that is the position across every country page on this site. What we deliver to Saadiyat Island is one-to-one teaching over live video, at an hour your household chooses, with the student's own school material on screen and a whiteboard that can be saved and reread.

The honest case for a visit still exists and it is worth stating. For a young child, or a student who will not stay at the table without an adult physically present, somebody in the room can decide the outcome, and no amount of video quality replaces that. If that describes your child, you want a provider who does visits, and we will say so rather than talk you into a format that will not work.

What the travel premium buys, and when it is worth it

  • Presence buys attention management, not subject depth
  • The intersection of willing-to-travel and genuinely specialist is very small
  • Travel risk is charged to the family as a late start
  • Young child needs presence; Diploma student usually needs expertise

A premium is only waste if it buys nothing. The in-home premium does buy things, and a family deciding how to spend should know what they are. Physical presence keeps a reluctant student at the table. It removes the device as a distraction, which for some twelve-year-olds is decisive. It lets a tutor see a worksheet, a textbook and a school planner at once without anybody photographing anything.

What it does not buy is depth of expertise, and that is the trade everybody makes without noticing. The pool of tutors willing to cross the bridge to Saadiyat Island at a given hour is small. The pool who teach, say, Chemistry at Higher Level weekly and know how the data-based section is marked is also small. The intersection of two small pools is very small indeed, and it is almost never the best available teacher for that component.

There is a second cost nobody quotes for. A visit has a travel risk attached, and travel risk lands on the family. A tutor stuck on the bridge arrives twenty minutes late and the hour is still charged. Across a term that is several hours of paid time converted into waiting, and it is the kind of loss that never appears in anybody's comparison because it is invisible per occurrence.

The decision rule that holds up: if your child needs an adult present to work at all, buy presence and accept a narrower choice of teacher. If your child can work with somebody competent on a screen, buy expertise and spend the difference on more hours or on a better-matched specialist. Most Diploma students are in the second category and most primary pupils are in the first.

03

The Abu Dhabi market as a monthly figure

Hourly rates are a poor unit for a family budget, because nobody buys one hour. The monthly figure is the one that decides whether a plan survives contact with a household's actual finances, and it is calculable from published bands. The table below does that arithmetic with every band attributed to the provider or rate table it came from.

Read it from the bottom up rather than the top down, because the cheapest viable option is the one families skip past. A university-student tutor online at AED 33 to 65 an hour, one session a week, is a few hundred dirhams a month and is genuinely the right purchase for arithmetic fluency, vocabulary drilling or keeping a Middle Years student on top of homework. Buying the specialist band for that work is money with nowhere to go.

The middle band, a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300, works out at about AED 600 to 1,200 a month for one weekly hour on Bestimate's own mid-band estimate. That is where most useful Diploma support sits for most of the year. Specialist exam-year support at two sessions a week reaches AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above on the same source, which is a different kind of commitment.

A note on fees in context. Abu Dhabi private school fees are approved through ADEK rather than set freely by schools, and fee-increase applications go through the regulator. This page publishes no Abu Dhabi fee band, because no figure for it has been verified for this project and an invented number would be worse than none. Your school's fee schedule is published on its own site, and that is the right denominator for any tutoring decision.

Where Saadiyat families reliably waste money

The waste is patterned and almost all of it comes from buying before diagnosing. A family notices a grade, feels the urgency, and purchases a package of hours. Nobody has yet established whether the problem is content, command-term reading, unshown working or pacing, and those four need different remedies, different people and different numbers of hours.

The second pattern is breadth. A Diploma student in difficulty often ends up with tutoring in four subjects at once, which is unaffordable and counterproductive, because the limiting resource at seventeen is the student's remaining hours rather than the family's money. Two subjects done properly beats four done thinly, and the student has a life to live alongside it.

The third pattern is band mismatch in both directions. Paying premium rates to correct unit discipline in Chemistry is overspending on a problem the middle band solves. Paying the budget band to prepare a Higher Level Paper 3 is underspending on a problem the budget band cannot touch. Both are common and both come from choosing a price before identifying a job, which is the wrong order and the expensive one.

The fourth is resources. Nobody needs a purchased archive of papers and mark schemes, and in any case those documents belong to the examination boards. We reference and link official material rather than supplying it, because reproducing board documents is copyright infringement and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. Your child's school has legitimate access to everything required, and a tutor who needs a paper can work from the copy the school already holds.

A two-year Diploma budget, built from published bands

Most families never cost the Diploma as a two-year project, and the result is a series of urgent decisions each more expensive than the last. The table below builds an indicative plan from published market bands. It is not a quote and it is not our price list; it is arithmetic you can run yourself and then compare any proposal against.

The shape that produces the lowest total is counter-intuitive. Spend steadily and modestly through the first Diploma year on the subject that is genuinely weakest, at the middle band. Spend a defined block on the Internal Assessment and the Extended Essay early, because marks on both are decided by the research question in the first fortnight. Then spend intensively only in the final term, and only on named components identified from mock scripts.

The shape that produces the highest total is the common one: nothing for eighteen months, then everything at once in the spring of the second year, across four subjects, at specialist rates, when the student has the fewest spare hours they will ever have. That pattern can cost several times as much and return less, because the weeks available no longer match the work required.

Build the plan with the school calendar in front of you. Internal deadlines for Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge cluster in a nine-month stretch, and knowing where two of them collide tells you which month will need help. Because no IB session date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org, which blocks automated checking, confirm every date with your school's Diploma coordinator.

Who may legally tutor in Abu Dhabi, and how a parent checks

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and this is both a legal point and a practical screening tool. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Because the permit costs nothing, a UAE-based tutor who does not hold one has no financial excuse. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and the application runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

Abu Dhabi has an additional layer worth knowing about. Press reporting indicates that ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as ADEK's exact wording, and verify against the current policy document if it matters to your situation.

The practical consequence for a Saadiyat Island family is a short script. Ask whether the tutor is UAE-based. If yes, ask to see the permit. Ask whether your child is enrolled at the school where the tutor teaches. Decline the arrangement if the answer is yes. And do not accept a claim of regulator approval from any agency: a KHDA educational services permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises, and IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation of any kind.

What a free trial should tell you before any money moves

  • One free trial per family, before payment, no card details taken
  • You should leave with a diagnosis you can check against marked work
  • Test subject depth on published figures, where hesitation is the answer
  • No provider can guarantee a grade, and we do not

A trial lesson is a test you are running on the provider, not a sales appointment they are running on you. Ours is one per family, booked before any payment and with no card details taken. It is a real lesson on your child's own material, and three things should come out of it that a conversation cannot give you.

First, a specific diagnosis. At the end the tutor should be able to name what is going wrong in a way you can check against the marked work: lost marks clustering in one command term, unshown working in multi-step questions, a topic missing from two years ago, or pacing. A tutor who offers encouragement instead of a diagnosis has told you what the engagement will be like.

Second, evidence of subject depth. Ask what Paper 2 is worth in your child's subject at their level, or which Internal Assessment criterion carries the most marks. Those figures are published, so hesitation is informative. For a Higher Level component this matters more than anything else, and it is the thing proximity-based searching optimises away.

Third, a straight answer on hours. A good tutor will tell you roughly how many sessions removing the identified problem usually takes, and will say when the answer is more than the remaining weeks allow. No provider can guarantee a grade or an improvement, and anyone offering one is selling. Eight focused weeks can move a boundary; they rarely move three.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Saadiyat Island

Saadiyat Island sits off the Abu Dhabi mainland, connected by bridges, with a mix of beachfront villas and Mamsha apartments. These are the communities its families compare notes with, and the cost-relevant difference in each.

Al Reem Island

Dense tower living with its own school provision and a bridge crossing to the mainland. In-home quotes to Al Reem carry the same travel loading as Saadiyat, which is why online pricing is identical for both and visit pricing is not.

Yas Island

Residential communities alongside the leisure developments, with schools on the island. Yas families face the same bridge arithmetic as Saadiyat, and tutors quoting a flat hourly rate across the city are usually absorbing that cost into a higher base.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartments on the mainland side towards the airport, close to Al Raha Gardens and its continuum school. Shorter drives from the inland tutor supply, so in-home quotes here tend to sit at the lower end of the market band.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community with a full IB continuum school at its centre, which concentrates local demand. Families here often report the shortest match times for in-home visits in Abu Dhabi, and the narrowest choice of specialist for Higher Level subjects.

Khalifa City

Large low-rise community with several well-known schools, inland from Saadiyat across the bridges. The most common Abu Dhabi comparison point on price, because supply is highest and travel distances shortest for mainland tutors.

Al Bateen

Established mainland district with long-standing schools and an American Community School presence. Close to the Corniche and to Saadiyat by bridge, so travel loading is modest and in-home quotes are competitive.

The Corniche and Al Khalidiyah

Apartment living along the waterfront, with schools a short drive inland. Parking and building access are the practical obstacles to in-home tutoring here rather than distance, which is a cost nobody quotes for.

Al Reef and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Further inland with lower housing costs and a different school mix. Tutors based here quote lower base rates and add more for travel to the islands, which is where the widest spread in Abu Dhabi quotes comes from.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Saadiyat Island

Saadiyat Island and the island schools

Saadiyat has its own school provision alongside a university campus, so some families never leave the island for education. For those who do, the bridge crossing is the single most cost-relevant fact about in-home tutoring here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Say the budget out loud

Tell us what you can sustain monthly and we will tell you what that buys at published market bands, which may be one subject rather than three. A plan built to a real number holds; a plan built to an aspiration gets abandoned in February, usually after the money has gone.

  2. 02

Send a marked script before buying hours

One mock paper, report or returned draft lets us classify the problem as content, command term, unshown working or pacing. Those four need different people and different session counts, and buying a package before that classification is the single most reliable way to waste money in this market.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One per family, before any payment and with no card details required. Use it to test subject depth on published figures and to extract a specific diagnosis. If you leave with encouragement rather than a diagnosis, you have learned something useful at no cost.

  4. 04

Buy a block, not a subscription

Agree a defined number of sessions with a stated objective and a stated total. Open-ended arrangements drift, and drift is expensive. At the end of the block, look at new marked work and decide again rather than continuing by default.

  5. 05

    Review the spend against evidence

At eight weeks, compare marked work rather than impressions. If the identified errors have stopped recurring, continue. If they have not, we change the tutor, the band or the diagnosis instead of adding hours. Re-matching costs nothing and the diagnosis carries across.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The market published, with sources

Every dirham figure on this page belongs to a named provider or a published rate table with its date. Three of the best-ranked pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. You can measure any quote, ours included, against what is here.

The travel charge named for what it is

In-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour include the car, and on a bridge-connected island that is a real share of the hour. We say so rather than implying the difference is quality, and we say plainly that IB Gram does not do visits in the UAE.

Diagnosis before hours

No block is agreed before a marked script has been read and the problem classified. That single rule removes most of the overspending described on this page, and it costs one session rather than ten to apply.

Band matched to the job

Unit discipline in Chemistry is a middle-band problem. Higher Level Paper 3 is a specialist-band problem. We will tell you which you have and recommend the cheaper option when the cheaper option is the right one, because a mismatch in either direction is waste.

Permits explained, approvals never claimed

The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, valid two years, and checkable, and we show you how to check. No regulator or examination board accredits IB Gram, there is no UAE office, and nothing here implies an endorsement that does not exist.

No guarantees, no invented statistics

No provider can guarantee a grade or an improvement. Every figure here carries its source and date, there is no self-generated rating, and no statistic appears without its method. That is a smaller promise than this market usually makes and one that can be kept.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Saadiyat Island: your questions answered

How much does an IB home tutor in Saadiyat Island cost?+

In-home one-to-one visits across the Emirates are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate's rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages seen in the market run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. On a bridge-connected island a meaningful share of that is the journey. Online one-to-one with a qualified subject tutor sits at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour on published rates.

Does IB Gram send tutors to villas on Saadiyat Island?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and that position is stated on every country page on this site. What we deliver to Saadiyat Island is one-to-one teaching over live video, at an hour your household chooses, with your child's own school material on screen. If you specifically need somebody physically present, you want a different provider and we will tell you so.

Why is in-home tutoring more expensive than online in Abu Dhabi?+

Mostly the car. A tutor crossing to Saadiyat Island from the mainland in the late afternoon spends real time travelling, and that time is priced into the hour at the same rate as teaching. There is a second, unquoted cost: travel risk sits with the family, so a tutor delayed on the bridge arrives twenty minutes late and the hour is still charged. Across a term that quietly converts several paid hours into waiting, and no comparison table in this market accounts for it.

When is paying the in-home premium actually worth it?+

When your child will not work without an adult physically present. For a young child, or a student for whom the device itself is the distraction, presence can decide the outcome and no video quality substitutes for it. What the premium does not buy is subject depth, because the people willing to cross the bridge at a given hour and the people who teach a specific Higher Level component weekly are two small groups whose overlap is smaller still.

What should a Saadiyat family expect to spend a month on IB support?+

At published market bands, one weekly hour with a student tutor online is roughly AED 240 to 600 a month on Bestimate's budget estimate. One weekly hour with a qualified subject tutor sits around AED 600 to 1,200. Exam-year specialist support at two sessions a week reaches AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. In-home packages are quoted at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those are the market's numbers, not ours, and any quote you receive should be measurable against them.

Which is the cheapest Diploma support that actually works?+

One weekly hour at the middle band, started in the first Diploma year on the genuinely weakest subject, plus a short defined block on the Extended Essay research question. At published rates that is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month plus one block, and it produces the lowest total cost per grade point available. The most expensive pattern is the common one: nothing for eighteen months, then four subjects at specialist rates in the final spring when the student has fewest spare hours.

Is a group class cheaper than one-to-one for an IB subject?+

Per hour, yes, and that is sometimes the right trade. A group class suits a student who is near target and needs structure, pace and company. It cannot address one student's specific error pattern, because the group moves at group pace and your child's unshown working or misread command terms are invisible in it. The practical combination that works is a group class for structure plus occasional one-to-one for the identified weakness, rather than one replacing the other.

Do we need to pay for past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone selling them. Examination board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards, and reproducing them is copyright infringement; for unreleased material it is also a malpractice exposure. Your child's school has legitimate access to everything required. We reference and link the official sites and work from the school's own papers, which costs nothing and carries no risk.

How do I check an Abu Dhabi tutor is legally allowed to teach privately?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tutor work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school and government teachers, private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, a UAE-based tutor without one has no excuse, and those tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Can my child be tutored by a teacher from their own Abu Dhabi school?+

You should assume not. Press reporting indicates ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as ADEK's exact wording and verify against the current policy if it matters. Either way, it is an arrangement we never facilitate.

How does tutoring cost compare with Abu Dhabi school fees?+

That depends on your school, and this page deliberately publishes no Abu Dhabi fee band because no figure for it has been verified for this project, and an invented number would be worse than none. Abu Dhabi private school fees are approved through ADEK rather than set freely by schools, and fee-increase applications go through the regulator. Your school publishes its own fee schedule, and that is the right denominator when you are deciding how much tutoring is proportionate.

Should we buy a ten-hour package to get a lower rate?+

Not before a marked script has been read. The discount is real and the risk is larger: you are committing hours before anybody has established whether the problem is content, command-term reading, unshown working or pacing, and those four need different people. Buy one diagnostic session, get a classification you can check against the marked work, then buy a block with a stated objective. The cheapest line in any tutoring budget is the hour that turned out not to be needed.

Can a tutor do my son's Internal Assessment if we pay more?+

No, at any price. Work submitted for IB assessment must be the student's own, and no tutor at IB Gram will write an Internal Assessment, draft an Extended Essay or produce coursework. One operation in this market openly sells completed Internal Assessments; the consequence of that falls on the student as a malpractice finding, not on the seller. What a tutor can do is narrow the research question, challenge the method and give feedback against the criteria, which raises the mark legitimately.

Will you tell us if tutoring is not the right spend?+

Yes, and it happens regularly. Some problems are school problems, where the right first step is a conversation with the department rather than a purchase. Some are workload or sleep problems that no tutor touches. Some are subjects already at target, where a changed revision routine beats a weekly hour. We would rather say that in a free trial lesson than take a year of fees for an engagement that was never going to move anything.

What if nobody is free for the subject and hour we can afford?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with a generalist at the price you named. Common Diploma subjects at common hours usually match within a few days. A narrow Higher Level combination at one fixed evening hour can take a week or more, and occasionally nobody suitable is available at any band. Hearing that honestly leaves you time to look elsewhere, which is worth more than discovering in session three that the specification is unfamiliar to the tutor.

Start with one diagnostic hour, not a package

The cheapest way into this is also the most effective: send the most recent marked piece of work, take the free trial lesson, and leave it with a classification of the problem you can check yourself. Only then decide how many hours, at which band, in which subject. Every figure on this page is the market's with its source attached, so you can hold our proposal and everyone else's against the same numbers. Lessons for Saadiyat Island run live online, one to one, at an hour that suits your household rather than the traffic on the bridge.
