IB Maths Tutor in Saadiyat Island

Hiring an IB maths tutor in Saadiyat Island is a spending decision before it is a teaching one, and most families make it without knowing the market. A Diploma Programme maths course runs two years. At one session a week that is roughly eighty hours of paid time, and the difference between the bottom and the top of the Abu Dhabi rate band is large enough to buy a second subject. This page prices it properly and names the sources.

IB & IGCSE in Saadiyat Island

What two years of IB maths tutoring actually costs a Saadiyat Island family

Price the whole course, not the hour. A Diploma Programme mathematics course runs from the start of DP1 to the May session at the end of DP2. A weekly sixty-minute session across that span, allowing for holidays and exam leave, comes to somewhere between seventy and eighty paid hours. At the budget end of the Abu Dhabi market that is a few thousand dirhams. At the specialist end it is a five-figure commitment. Families on Saadiyat Island regularly sign up to the second without having priced the first.

The published bands are these, and each is attributed. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts weekly one-hour tutoring at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. On an hourly basis, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65 at the entry level. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate puts the IB and A Level specialist band at AED 200-450 and upwards. BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. In-home one-to-one with travel included runs AED 180-500.

Those ranges overlap, which is the first thing worth noticing. A tutor charging AED 200 an hour and one charging AED 450 can both be described as IB specialists, and the price difference does not reliably predict which one can teach the Paper 3 problem-solving questions in Analysis and Approaches at higher level. What does predict it is whether the tutor works in that route habitually. A tutor who teaches AI SL most weeks and takes an AA HL student because the booking came in is the most expensive mistake in this market regardless of the hourly figure attached.

The second thing worth noticing is where the money leaks. It leaks into hours spent on content the student already has, because nobody diagnosed first. It leaks into a tutor covering the wrong route's syllabus. It leaks into general maths help in DP1 when the exploration deadline in DP2 is the thing that will actually cost twenty per cent of the grade. And it leaks into the travel premium, which on an island reached by a single bridge is larger than it looks, and which buys no additional teaching at all.

What follows is the costing. A monthly ladder rather than an hourly one, the route decision that determines what you are paying a tutor to do, the paper weightings so you can see which component your money is buying marks in, the exploration criteria with their mark allocations, and the cost of the course set against school fees and exam entry. All AED figures are market figures with their sources named. IB Gram publishes no price list here; tuition starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation.

At a glance

  • A weekly session across the two-year DP course is roughly 70-80 paid hours
  • Mid-market monthly band for one session a week is AED 600-1,200
  • The exploration carries 20% of the grade and 20 marks across five criteria
  • AA and AI differ in calculator rules, content and university prerequisites
  • Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video, not at the home
  • A diagnosis from marked work costs nothing and prevents the most expensive error
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Saadiyat Island students arrive at Diploma Programme mathematics from several directions, and each route has a different cost profile because each needs a different amount of work before the DP content starts.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at higher level and three at standard level, plus the core of Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Mathematics is compulsory, which is why maths tutoring demand in the Diploma is structurally higher than in any other subject group. Every student picks one of four maths routes and that choice is difficult to reverse after the first term.

Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, and several of the campuses Saadiyat Island students attend run the full Diploma. UAE schools sit the May session. IB session and results dates are not restated on this page: the IB's own site is the only source we will point a parent to, and a tutoring page quoting an unconfirmed date is worse than silence.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

The five years before the Diploma in a continuum school. MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria rather than by terminal paper, which means a student can arrive in DP1 with strong MYP grades and no experience of a timed, non-calculator paper. That gap is the single most common reason a Saadiyat Island family books maths tutoring in the first term of DP1.

Not every Abu Dhabi school running the Diploma runs MYP beneath it, so a DP1 cohort in this emirate often mixes MYP leavers with IGCSE leavers. The two groups need different first months of tutoring, and paying for the wrong one is a waste that shows up in February.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The IGCSE route into DP mathematics

Many students in Abu Dhabi reach the Diploma from Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. An Extended or Higher tier pass with secure algebra is a workable foundation for Analysis and Approaches at standard level. Additional Mathematics 0606, where a school offers it, is the best preparation available for AA higher level because it introduces calculus a year early.

If your child is in Year 11 in Abu Dhabi now and the Diploma is the plan, the cheapest maths tutoring you will ever buy is the block that closes algebraic fluency gaps before DP1 begins. Remediation in DP2 costs several times as much and happens under deadline pressure.

CPAges 16-19

IB Career-related Programme and other routes

A smaller presence in Abu Dhabi, where students combine IB core elements with a career-related study. Mathematics support here is usually about quantitative confidence for the career strand rather than about Diploma papers, and it is correspondingly shorter and cheaper. Worth naming because families sometimes assume the Diploma is the only IB option available.

Where a Saadiyat Island student is on a non-Diploma route, we say so before quoting anything, because the hour count and therefore the total cost are completely different from a two-year DP maths plan.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is the page's subject, but families almost always add a second. These are the DP subjects Abu Dhabi households most often pair with maths support, with what each one assesses so you can judge whether an extra weekly hour is worth buying.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic, proof-oriented route. Standard level sits two papers at 40% each with the exploration at 20%; higher level sits three, weighted 30, 30 and 20 with the exploration at 20%. Paper 1 at both levels is taken without a calculator, which is where most marks are lost by students who learned maths with a screen in front of them.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling and statistics route, with a graphical display calculator permitted on every paper. Lighter on proof, heavier on interpretation, regression, and reading a context correctly. Students lose marks here for giving a number without saying what it means in the situation the question described.

Physics

HL and SL

The most common pairing with AA at higher level, and the subject whose mathematical demand catches students out. Mechanics and fields reward exactly the algebraic fluency Paper 1 in maths requires, so a single tutor's work in one subject often shows up in the other.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and kinetics carry the quantitative load. Students who are comfortable with logarithms and rearrangement find the higher-level calculations routine; those who are not lose marks on questions they understand conceptually, which is a maths problem wearing a chemistry label.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher level adds quantitative work that an AI student finds straightforward and an under-prepared AA student sometimes does not, because the arithmetic is applied rather than abstract. Diagram accuracy and explicit evaluation decide the top band.

Biology

HL and SL

The statistical content, including standard deviation, correlation and significance testing, is where maths and biology meet. The internal assessment also rewards competent data handling, which is a transferable gain from maths tutoring rather than a separate purchase.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Algorithmic thinking, complexity and the higher-level case study. Students arriving from a strong AA background find the reasoning familiar; the gap is usually in the formal notation and in the discipline of tracing an algorithm by hand rather than running it.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Included because it is the subject most often paired with maths in a two-subject plan. Marks sit in the guided textual analysis and the individual oral, both of which are taught techniques. A student can be articulate and still score mid-band for not addressing the assessment criteria.

Arabic

Language B and ab initio

Arabic runs alongside the Diploma in Abu Dhabi private schools under federal requirements for Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies. The language B and ab initio routes are different courses, and a student placed in the wrong one struggles for reasons unrelated to ability.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by exhibition and essay, and worth real points in combination with the Extended Essay. Support here is process coaching against published criteria. The written work must be the student's own, and no tutor should supply text for it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IB maths support, with the cost implication of each stated plainly. All are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses.

Weekly one-to-one across the two-year course

The default, and the most expensive in total because it runs longest. Its value depends entirely on whether the first month is spent diagnosing or drifting. A tutor who starts by marking your child's own work and naming three topics is buying you something; a tutor who starts by re-teaching the term's content is selling you school again.

  • 60 or 90 minutes a week, same slot, same tutor
  • Roughly 70-80 paid hours across DP1 and DP2
  • Diagnosis from marked work in the first session
  • A ranked topic list that should visibly shrink

Exploration support block

A short, bounded block around the internal assessment, which carries twenty per cent of the grade for twenty marks across five criteria. Cheaper than a year of weekly sessions and often higher value, because the criteria are published and most students lose marks to criteria they have never read rather than to mathematics they cannot do.

  • Four to eight sessions with a defined end point
  • Work on criteria A to E and what each mark is awarded for
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never text supplied
  • Timed against the school's internal deadline, not the exam

Pre-session paper intensive

A compressed block before the May session, built on timed papers rather than new content. Priced as a block of hours, which makes it the easiest form of tutoring to budget and the easiest to judge: if the paper scores are not moving, the block is not working, and you will know within three sessions.

  • Two or three shorter sessions a week during the run-in
  • Paper 1 practised without a calculator, deliberately
  • Every paper marked against the published scheme afterwards
  • Higher level Paper 3 treated as its own skill

Route-change rescue

Where a student moves between AA and AI, or between higher and standard level, the gap is specific content rather than general weakness. A bounded block closes it. This is the cheapest significant intervention in DP maths and the one most often replaced by a year of expensive general tutoring.

  • Audit of what the new route covers that the old one did not
  • A fixed session count agreed before starting
  • Calculator discipline reset for the new paper rules
  • Ends with a timed paper in the new route

01

The monthly ladder: what Abu Dhabi families actually pay for DP maths

Hourly rates mislead because nobody buys one hour. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Package pricing seen in this market includes around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Read that ladder cheapest first, because that is how a decision actually gets made. At the bottom sits homework supervision from a university student: useful for a DP1 student who is coping but disorganised, and inadequate for anyone sitting Paper 3. In the middle sits a qualified subject tutor working online, which is where most DP maths work belongs. At the top sits a named specialist, which is worth paying for in one specific situation: a higher level student in the final two terms whose paper scores have stalled and who needs technique rather than content.

The jump from the middle band to the top band is roughly double. Ask what the doubling buys before paying it. If the answer is reputation and scarcity, that is a legitimate thing to buy in the run-in to a session and a poor thing to buy in the first term of DP1, when the work is content coverage and the middle band does it just as well. Spending top-band money for two years is the most common overspend in this market.

The table below sets out the ladder with monthly figures first and the source for each band. None of these are IB Gram's prices. They are published market rates, named so that you can test any quote you receive against them, including ours.

Where the money is wasted in DP maths tutoring

  • Ask for a diagnosis from marked work before buying a block of hours
  • Ask which maths route the tutor teaches most weeks, not whether they can teach yours
  • Plan the exploration block separately from weekly content support
  • In any in-home quote, ask what share of the hourly rate is travel

The largest single waste is undiagnosed hours. A tutor who begins by re-teaching the current chapter is being paid to repeat school. A tutor who begins by marking a recent test and naming the three topics that cost the most marks is being paid to find the problem. The first costs the same per hour as the second and produces a fraction of the movement, and a family can run a full term on it without noticing, because the sessions feel productive.

The second waste is route mismatch. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are separate courses with separate calculator rules and separate paper structures. A tutor who habitually teaches one and takes a student in the other will cover material at the wrong depth in both directions, and will miss the specific demands that decide grades, such as non-calculator fluency in AA Paper 1 or contextual interpretation in AI. The hourly rate tells you nothing about this. The question does: ask which route the tutor teaches most weeks.

The third waste is timing. Twenty per cent of the grade sits in the exploration, and the exploration has an internal deadline inside DP2 that arrives earlier than most families expect. Money spent on general maths help in DP1 while the exploration goes unplanned is money spent on the eighty per cent while the twenty per cent is left to chance. A short block on the criteria, taken at the right moment, moves more marks per dirham than any other intervention in the course.

The fourth is the travel premium. In-home rates run AED 180-500 against AED 150-300 online for a qualified tutor, and that gap pays for a journey rather than for teaching. On Saadiyat Island, reached by one bridge, the premium is structurally higher. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE at all, so the question does not arise with us, but it is worth checking in any quote you receive: ask what share of the rate is travel.

03

AA or AI: the route choice that decides what you are paying for

Every Diploma student takes mathematics, and every one picks a route. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and proof-oriented course; Applications and Interpretation is the modelling, statistics and interpretation course with a graphical display calculator permitted on every paper. Both exist at higher and standard level, giving four courses in total, and the choice is normally made at the end of Year 11 and is awkward to reverse after the first term.

For tutoring cost, the route matters in two ways. Tutors who work habitually in AA at higher level are scarcer than tutors who work in AI at standard level, which moves the rate. And the teaching itself is different work: AA higher level needs non-calculator fluency, proof technique and the problem-solving extension of Paper 3, while AI needs modelling judgement, regression and the discipline of interpreting a number back into its context.

For university choice the route matters more. Many engineering, mathematics, physics and economics programmes expect Analysis and Approaches, often at higher level, and some state it explicitly. Courses in social sciences, business, design and the life sciences more often accept either. The honest instruction here is to read the entry requirements of the specific universities your child is considering, because the pattern varies by country and by faculty, and a tutoring page is the wrong place to take that from.

What a tutor can do is tell you, from a marked paper, whether your child is in the right route. A student who is accurate but slow without a calculator is often misplaced in AI. A student who models well and freezes on an algebraic identity is often misplaced in AA. Finding that out in the first term costs a few sessions. Finding it out in DP2 costs considerably more.

Paper weightings: which component your money is buying marks in

Before you decide how many hours to buy, look at where the marks are. At standard level the two papers carry forty per cent each and the exploration carries twenty. At higher level the three papers carry thirty, thirty and twenty, with the exploration again at twenty. A family paying for weekly content tutoring across two years and nothing else is spending on the papers and leaving a fifth of the grade to whatever happens in class.

Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches is sat without a calculator, and it is the component where Abu Dhabi students most often underperform relative to their classwork. The reason is habit: a student who has done every exercise with a screen in front of them has never built the arithmetic and algebraic fluency the paper assumes. That is a trainable gap, it responds to short repeated drills rather than long explanations, and it is cheap to fix if it is identified in DP1.

Paper 3 at higher level is a different animal again: an extended problem-solving investigation where the mathematics is familiar and the structure is not. Students who can do every topic still lose marks here for not following the thread of a multi-part question. Of all the components, this is the one where a specialist rate is most defensible, and it is also the one most often left untouched until the final weeks.

The table sets out the components with what each actually tests and where marks go missing. Use it to decide which component a block of tutoring is aimed at, and ask the tutor to say which one they are working on. A tutor who cannot answer that question is working on everything, which in practice means working on nothing in particular.

The exploration: twenty marks, five criteria, and the line a tutor cannot cross

The internal assessment in Diploma mathematics is an exploration: an independent piece of mathematical writing worth twenty per cent of the grade. It is marked against five criteria totalling twenty marks, and the allocation is public. Presentation carries four marks, mathematical communication four, personal engagement three, reflection three, and use of mathematics six. Most students lose marks in criteria they have never read rather than in mathematics they cannot do.

Reflection is the clearest example. Three marks are available for genuine reflection on the mathematics, and a very large number of explorations treat the reflection as a summary of what the student did. Personal engagement is the second: three marks for a real relationship between the student and the topic, which a generic topic chosen from a list cannot produce. Use of mathematics, worth six, rewards mathematics that is correct, relevant and at a level commensurate with the course, which means an elegant piece of work pitched below the course cannot reach the top band.

A tutor's legitimate role here is substantial and bounded. They can explain each criterion and what the marks are awarded for, discuss candidate topics and test whether a topic has enough mathematics in it, teach the techniques the student has chosen to use, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. That is genuinely valuable and it is where the exploration block earns its cost.

What no tutor may do is produce the work. No tutor should write the exploration, rewrite a draft into its final form, or supply text for submission. The IB's academic-honesty rules make authorship the student's responsibility, and a malpractice finding is a far worse outcome than a middling mark. One page competing for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright at a published price. We state our position instead of leaving it implied.

Costing the course in context: fees, tutoring and exam entry

Tutoring never sits alone in a household budget. Set it against the other education costs and the decision becomes clearer. Dubai's regulator confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in that emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Abu Dhabi fee rules are set by ADEK rather than KHDA, so confirm your own school's position with the school.

Against a school fee, a mid-band weekly maths session at AED 600-1,200 a month is a visible but modest addition. A top-band specialist across two years is not; it is a second significant education line in the budget. That is the comparison worth making before signing a two-year arrangement, and it is the comparison no competing page in this market invites you to make, because three of the six pages we examined publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars.

There is also a timing point. Spending in DP1 and spending in DP2 are not equivalent. Content coverage in DP1 is work the school is also doing, so the marginal value of a paid hour is lower. Technique work in the final two terms is work the school has limited time for, so the marginal value is higher. A family with a fixed budget generally gets more for it by spending less in DP1 and more in the run-in, with one exception: a diagnosed, specific gap in DP1 should be closed immediately, because it compounds.

The table below sets the pieces side by side. Figures for tutoring are the market bands already cited; exam entry and fee figures should be confirmed with your school and the relevant authority, because they vary by campus and by year and we do not publish numbers we have not read from a source.

How to verify the person you are about to pay

  • Ask any independent tutor whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • The permit is free and valid for two years, so there is no cost excuse for not holding one
  • No fine schedule is published; treat any quoted penalty figure as unverified
  • Check regulator claims: approval, accreditation and partnership are specific, checkable things

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and this is the cheapest piece of due diligence available to a parent. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Because it is free and quick, there is no good reason for an independent tutor not to hold one, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone, including us. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal and needs an educational services permit for a training institute from the relevant authority.

There is an Abu Dhabi-specific point as well. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit-holder's own school. We treat that as press-reported rather than as ADEK's exact wording, and we do not arrange for a child to be tutored privately by a teacher at their own school.

The last piece of verification concerns claims. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge, and has no office or centre in the UAE. Any tutoring page that tells you otherwise about itself is making a claim you can check, and should. We name regulators to explain what they govern, not to borrow standing we do not have.

08

Buying the first month well

  • Send one piece of marked work before the first session
  • Use the free trial to test the match, not to start the course
  • Set the slot against the school's finish time, allowing 45 minutes at home first
  • Review at the half term on topic count and timed paper scores, not on feel

A first month that costs the same as any other month can produce a very different return, and the difference is almost entirely about sequence. Send one piece of marked work before the first session. A returned test, a mock paper, a marked exploration draft: anything with a teacher's annotations on it. That single document lets a tutor arrive with a hypothesis instead of a questionnaire, and it converts the first paid hour from an interview into teaching.

Then take the free trial lesson and judge three things. Whether your child talks to this person, because a student who will not admit confusion to a tutor is paying for silence. Whether the tutor named specific topics rather than general weaknesses, because "needs to work on algebra" is not a diagnosis. And whether the tutor asked which maths route and which level, which is the question that separates a subject specialist from a generalist.

Fix the weekly slot against your child's actual school day rather than against your own calendar. For a Saadiyat Island household whose child attends a Khalifa City or Al Raha campus, the honest earliest start is about 17:30 once the commute and a break are accounted for, and the most durable slots in an exam term sit at 18:00 or 18:30 Gulf Standard Time. A slot that only works on an untroubled week will break inside a fortnight.

Review at the half term against two measurable things: whether the named topic list is shrinking, and whether timed paper scores are moving. Feel is not evidence. If neither has changed after six weeks, change the plan or the tutor rather than continuing out of momentum, which is how families end up with two years of comfortable sessions and a grade that never moved.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi areas where the same maths cohort lives

Saadiyat Island students share their Diploma classrooms with families from across the emirate, and the rate a tutor quotes often depends on which of these areas they themselves live in. Useful context when you are reading a price.

Saadiyat Island

Cultural-district and beach-district housing with a single bridge route to the mainland. Secondary provision on the island is limited, so most Diploma students commute, and in-home tutors price the crossing into the hour.

Al Reem Island

Dense tower living reached through the mainland rather than directly from Saadiyat. Reem households often share Diploma cohorts with Saadiyat, and the cheapest in-home quotes a Saadiyat family receives often come from tutors based here.

Yas Island

Further east and reached inland, which makes a tutor's round trip from Yas to Saadiyat long enough to appear in the rate. A clear illustration of why an online hour and an in-home hour are not the same product.

Al Raha Beach

Coastal mainland strip close to several of the schools Saadiyat Diploma students attend. A tutor living here can reach the Khalifa City campuses quickly and Saadiyat slowly, which is why their two quotes differ.

Khalifa City

The largest block of Diploma places in Abu Dhabi and the base for a large share of the emirate's experienced maths teachers. Most of the mid-band AED quotes in this market originate here.

Al Bateen

Close-in district with long-established international provision, including Diploma schools. Shorter run to Saadiyat than the Khalifa City corridor, and in-home quotes from here are correspondingly lower.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Inland and further out, with its own school cluster. Families relocating here from Saadiyat frequently change schools, and a mid-Diploma school change is the most expensive maths tutoring scenario there is.

The Corniche and Al Khalidiyah

Where tuition centres concentrate. A group class here is cheaper per hour than one-to-one and costs a Saadiyat family a second evening commute, which is the trade-off to weigh rather than ignore.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Saadiyat Island

Saadiyat Island and central Abu Dhabi

Students we support in this cluster sit Diploma mathematics across all four routes, and the mix of AA and AI varies sharply by campus. That matters for cost, because an AA higher level specialist is a scarcer and therefore dearer tutor than an AI standard level one.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Khalifa City and the Al Raha corridor

The corridor where most Saadiyat Island Diploma students actually study. School-day finishes here cluster closely enough that a single evening slot works across campuses, which is what makes a weekly fixed-time arrangement survive a term.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Yas Island and Al Reem Island

Growing provision on both islands. Students moving between these campuses and Saadiyat mid-Diploma are the group most likely to change maths route, and a route change is a content purchase rather than a scheduling one.

  • West Yas Academy
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi, Reem Island
  • Aldar Academies campuses across the islands

Named schools appear as context for the Abu Dhabi school map only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school listed, and none is a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the route and the level

Tell us whether your child is in Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and whether at higher or standard level. These four courses are taught by different people for good reason, and this single fact determines the match more than anything else you could tell us.

  2. 02

    Send a marked paper

A returned test, a mock paper or an annotated exploration draft. It shows where marks were actually lost rather than where the problem feels located, and it means the first session opens with teaching rather than with questions you have already answered.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full one-to-one session over live video at no cost and with no card details taken. Judge it on whether your child engages, whether the tutor named specific topics, and whether they asked about route and level before anything else.

  4. 04

Agree the shape and the spend

Weekly across the course, a bounded exploration block, a pre-session intensive, or a route-change repair. Each has a different hour count and therefore a different total. We would rather agree the shape openly than let a weekly arrangement run by default for two years.

  5. 05

Review on evidence at each half term

A short written note follows each session. At the half term the test is whether the named topic list is shorter and whether timed paper scores have moved. If neither is true, the plan changes. Momentum is not progress and it is expensive.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the competitor page or rate survey that published it, with the band stated and the date given where there is one. Three of the six competing pages we examined publish no price at all. You should be able to judge a quote, including ours.

Matched by route, not by subject label

A tutor is matched to Analysis and Approaches higher level or Applications and Interpretation standard level specifically. We ask which route the tutor teaches most weeks rather than whether they can teach yours, because the second question gets a yes from almost anyone.

No travel premium, because there is no travel

Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, which removes the AED gap between the online and in-home bands entirely, along with the bridge crossing that makes it larger on Saadiyat Island.

The exploration is coached to criteria, not written

A tutor explains criteria A to E and their mark allocations, tests topic ideas the student has proposed, teaches the techniques involved and gives feedback on the student's own draft. No tutor writes or rewrites the work. That boundary is stated because in this market it is not universal.

Diagnosis before hours

We ask for one piece of marked work before the first session and expect a tutor to name specific topics after it. Undiagnosed hours are the largest waste in this market, and they cost the same per hour as useful ones while producing a fraction of the movement.

No regulator or board claims

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge, and no UAE office. Regulators are named here to explain what they govern, nothing more.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Saadiyat Island: your questions answered

How much should a Saadiyat Island family budget for IB maths tutoring across the whole Diploma?+

Price the course rather than the hour. A weekly sixty-minute session from the start of DP1 to the May session at the end of DP2 comes to roughly seventy to eighty paid hours once holidays and exam leave are removed. At the mid-market monthly band of AED 600-1,200 quoted by Bestimate's 2026 estimates, that is a substantial but predictable line in a household budget. At the specialist band of AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month in an exam year, it becomes a second major education cost. Decide which band each phase of the course deserves rather than paying one rate throughout.

Is an AED 450 IB maths tutor better than an AED 200 one?+

Not reliably, and that is the uncomfortable part. Published bands overlap: Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate puts the specialist band at AED 200-450 and upwards. All of those describe themselves as IB specialists. What predicts teaching quality in Diploma mathematics is whether the tutor works habitually in your child's route and level, not the figure attached. Ask which route they teach most weeks. A higher-rate tutor outside your route is worse value than a mid-band tutor inside it.

Is in-home maths tutoring on Saadiyat Island something IB Gram sells?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Diploma mathematics support for Abu Dhabi families is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. For a cost-focused decision that matters directly: the published in-home band runs AED 180-500 an hour against AED 150-300 for a qualified online tutor, and the gap pays for a journey rather than for teaching. On an island reached by a single bridge, that gap is structurally wider.

Which maths route should my child take for a UAE or overseas university?+

Read the stated entry requirements of the specific universities and faculties your child is considering, because the pattern varies. Many engineering, mathematics, physics and economics programmes expect Analysis and Approaches, often at higher level, and some say so explicitly. Social sciences, business, design and several life-science courses more often accept either route. A tutoring page is the wrong source for a decision this consequential. What a tutor can tell you, from a marked paper, is whether your child is suited to the route they are currently in.

How much of the IB maths grade does the exploration actually carry?+

Twenty per cent, at both standard and higher level, marked out of twenty across five criteria. Presentation carries four marks, mathematical communication four, personal engagement three, reflection three, and use of mathematics six. The practical consequence is that a family paying for weekly content tutoring and nothing else is spending on eighty per cent of the grade and leaving a fifth of it to whatever happens in class. A short block aimed at the criteria usually moves more marks per dirham than any other intervention in the course.

What can a tutor legitimately do on a Saadiyat Island student's maths exploration?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can explain each criterion and what its marks are awarded for, test whether a topic the student has proposed contains enough mathematics, teach the techniques the student has chosen to use, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. No tutor may write the exploration, rewrite a draft into its final form, or supply text for submission. Authorship is the student's responsibility under IB academic-honesty rules, and a malpractice finding is far worse than a middling mark.

Why does Paper 1 cause problems for students who are fine in class?+

In Analysis and Approaches, Paper 1 is sat without a calculator and carries forty per cent of the grade at standard level and thirty at higher level. Students who have done every exercise with a screen in front of them have never built the arithmetic and algebraic fluency the paper assumes, so classwork and paper performance diverge. It is a habit problem rather than an understanding problem, it responds to short repeated drills rather than long explanations, and it is inexpensive to fix if it is caught in DP1 rather than in the final term.

What is Paper 3 and does it justify paying a specialist rate?+

Paper 3 is sat only at higher level, carries twenty per cent of the grade, and is an extended problem-solving investigation. The mathematics in it is familiar; the structure is not, and students who can do every topic still lose marks for losing the thread of a multi-part question. Of all the components in Diploma mathematics, this is the one where a specialist rate is easiest to defend, and it is also the one most often left untouched until the final weeks. Buying specialist hours here and mid-band hours elsewhere is a defensible split.

Where do Saadiyat Island families most often waste money on maths tutoring?+

On undiagnosed hours. A tutor who opens by re-teaching the current chapter is being paid to repeat school; a tutor who opens by marking a recent test and naming three costly topics is being paid to find the problem. Both charge the same. The second waste is route mismatch, where a tutor who habitually teaches one maths route takes a student in the other. The third is spending heavily in DP1 on content the school is also covering while the exploration, worth a fifth of the grade, goes unplanned.

When is the best time to start paying for IB maths support?+

It depends on what you are buying. A diagnosed, specific gap should be closed immediately, in DP1, because it compounds through the course. General content support in DP1 has lower marginal value, because the school is covering the same material at the same time. Technique work in the final two terms has higher marginal value, because the school has limited time for it. A family with a fixed budget usually gets more by spending modestly in DP1 and concentrating the spend on the exploration block and the run-in.

Can sessions fit around a Saadiyat Island school run and Abu Dhabi traffic?+

Yes, and this is where online delivery earns its place rather than merely saving money. Most campuses serving the island finish their taught day between 14:45 and 15:30, and a child at a Khalifa City or Al Raha school is often not home before 16:15. Allowing time to eat and change, the honest earliest start is around 17:30, and the most durable slots in an exam term sit at 18:00 or 18:30 Gulf Standard Time. Because there is no journey on either side, a late finish moves the session rather than cancelling it.

Does IB Gram publish an hourly rate for Saadiyat Island?+

Not on this page. Every AED figure here is a published market rate attributed to the competitor page or rate survey that produced it, and it is included so that you can test any quote you receive. Our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about route, level, how many weeks remain before the session your child is entered for, and whether a bounded block or a weekly arrangement fits. Those variables change the answer enough that a single headline number would mislead rather than help.

My child moved from MYP into DP1 and is suddenly struggling in maths. Why?+

Middle Years Programme mathematics is assessed against criteria rather than by terminal paper, so a student can arrive in DP1 with strong MYP grades and no experience of a timed, non-calculator paper. The gap is usually exam behaviour and algebraic fluency rather than understanding, and it is the most common reason an Abu Dhabi family books maths support in the first term. It is also one of the cheaper problems to fix, because it responds to short repeated practice rather than to re-teaching the content.

How do I check that an independent maths tutor in Abu Dhabi is permitted to work?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents and university students. Because it costs nothing, there is no good reason for a tutor not to hold one. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

What should I see after six weeks to know the money is working?+

Two measurable things. The named topic list should be shorter than it was, which means the tutor identified specific topics rather than general weaknesses in the first place. And timed paper scores should be moving, which means papers are being sat under conditions and marked against the published scheme. Feel is not evidence, and comfortable sessions are the easiest thing in this market to keep paying for. If neither measure has shifted after six weeks, change the plan or the tutor instead of continuing from momentum.

Decide the spend before you decide the tutor

Work out how many hours the next phase of the course actually needs, which band that phase deserves, and what the exploration block will cost separately. Then choose a tutor who works in your child's maths route every week rather than one who can. IB Gram teaches Diploma mathematics to Abu Dhabi students one-to-one over live video, with a free trial lesson before any payment, market rates on this page attributed to the sources that published them, and a stated boundary on what a tutor may do with an exploration.
