IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Khalifa City

Parents type "IB IGCSE tutor near me" into a search box from Khalifa City because proximity feels like the safest filter. It is actually the one that narrows the shortlist fastest, and for a Diploma or Extended-tier subject it can empty it. IB Gram provides no home visits in Abu Dhabi; lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. This page explains when nearness genuinely helps a Khalifa City family and when it quietly costs them the right teacher.

  • Both boards covered: IB Diploma and MYP, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE
  • Matched on course and syllabus code rather than on driving distance
  • Availability stated before the trial, including where the tutor is based
  • One free hour over live video, no card details and no rolling term

IB & IGCSE in Khalifa City

What proximity actually buys a Khalifa City family, and what it costs

A near-me search is a request for reassurance, and it is a reasonable one. Somebody local can be met in person, has probably taught children from the same school, and will not disappear into a different time zone. For primary-age support, for a child who needs an adult physically present, and for general homework accountability, nearness is a genuine advantage and worth paying the travel premium for.

The difficulty begins the moment the requirement gets specific. Khalifa City is a villa community between the island and the airport road, and the tutors who serve it in person are drawn from whoever lives within a workable drive and still has a free evening. That is a sufficient pool for Year 7 maths. For Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, for Chemistry 0620 Extended, for Edexcel 4CH1, or for Arabic as a first language, it can be a pool of nobody at all, and the family never learns that. They are simply offered the nearest person who says yes.

The arithmetic is worth seeing plainly. Widening a search from five kilometres to twenty does not multiply the number of specialists; it multiplies the number of generalists and adds forty minutes of driving to the price. Widening it to the whole emirate adds tutors who live on the island and will quote a Khalifa City rate that includes a bridge crossing. None of those steps solves the original problem, which was never distance. It was depth in one specific course, taught to an examination, by somebody who has marked the paper your child will sit.

Online delivery changes the filter rather than the standard. The lesson arrives at a desk in Khalifa City over live video, on a shared whiteboard, with the school's own worksheet open, and the constraint on who teaches your child becomes the syllabus they have actually taught to an examination. IB Gram sends nobody to Abu Dhabi addresses: home visiting is a service offered only in India, and that position is the same on every country page we publish. The lesson arrives at a desk, not at a gate, and the only thing that travels is the worksheet on the shared screen.

What follows is written for a household that may well have both boards running at once, which is common in this corridor. It compares what the IB Diploma and IGCSE actually demand, maps which authority regulates your child's school and what that means in practice, sets out the Ministry of Education equivalency requirements a British-track certificate has to satisfy for UAE universities, states where a tutor must stop on assessed work, and explains how to verify that the person you are paying is permitted to tutor in the UAE at all. A near-me search answers none of those questions.

At a glance

  • Proximity helps for younger children and general support; it rarely helps for a specific course
  • Widening the radius adds generalists and travel cost rather than specialists
  • Abu Dhabi private schools are supervised by ADEK; Dubai by KHDA; Sharjah by SPEA
  • British-track MoE equivalency needs five IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from that five-subject count
  • Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Khalifa City households commonly run two curricula at once, because siblings end up at different schools and because families transfer between boards mid-school. These are the four programmes that produce most requests in this corridor, with what each one actually demands.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three normally at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject, and the workload is distributed across two years rather than concentrated in a terminal examination series. Support concentrates on internal assessment design, command-term discipline and Paper 3 technique at Higher Level.

UAE schools sit the May session. No IB session or results dates appear on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated verification and a wrong date in an answer a parent acts on is worse than no date. Your Khalifa City school's IB coordinator holds the internal deadline calendar, which is the document that actually binds a student's work.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment graded 1 to 8 against four criteria per subject, with no terminal written papers in most schools. Parents arriving from a British-track school often read the absence of examinations as an absence of rigour. It is a different evidence base: the work is judged against descriptors rather than against a mark scheme.

Several schools serving Khalifa City run MYP to Year 11, so a child moving into an IGCSE school at Year 10 meets structured written papers for the first time. The gap is specific rather than general, and it is cheapest to close in the term after the move rather than in the run-up to a series.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Terminal written assessment with syllabus codes that determine everything: Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, First Language English 0500. Most subjects tier into Core and Extended with different grade ceilings and different content, not merely harder questions.

Cambridge allocates each exam centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered in India only and belongs in no Abu Dhabi revision plan.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other British-track route in this corridor, with codes such as 4MA1, 4PH1 and 4CH1, tiered Foundation and Higher. Paper structures, question wording and formula provision all differ from Cambridge, so revision material does not transfer cleanly between the two boards even where the content overlaps.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Link the live official timetable rather than relying on a restated date.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

IB Diploma subjects first, since these are the requests where a near-me search most often fails. Each note describes what the subject assesses and where the marks actually go.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic route, with SL Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Higher Level adds complex numbers, vectors, proof by induction and substantially harder calculus, and it is the single hardest Diploma course to staff locally in any Abu Dhabi community.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling route, calculator permitted throughout, with statistics and regression central. Higher Level adds matrices and graph theory. Students who chose it as the easier option often need statistics support rather than algebra support.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and the energetics calculations decide most grades, with the internal assessment needing a research question narrow enough to generate usable data. Higher Level Paper 3 rewards experimental reasoning rather than recall.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields carry the paper, and the common failure is mathematical rather than conceptual: a student who understands the physics and cannot rearrange the expression quickly loses the mark. Uncertainty handling is routinely under-taught.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy with extended-response questions that reward structure as much as knowledge. The internal assessment is where most available improvement sits, because experimental design errors cap the mark regardless of how good the write-up is.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and command-term discipline decide the grade. An evaluate question answered with explanation scores a fraction of the credit. Gulf-specific examples are legitimate, memorable and under-used by candidates in this region.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 unseen analysis and the individual oral carry the course, with the oral in particular rewarding a global issue that is genuinely arguable rather than merely topical. Structure is teachable; reading taste is not, and most marks sit in structure.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay, both assessed against published criteria and both routinely left too late. Tutoring works here as questioning and criteria coaching, never as drafting, because every word must be the student's own.

The Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of independent research with a supervisor at school. Support means helping the student narrow a research question, interrogate method and reference properly, with the writing done entirely by the student.

Arabic ab initio and Arabic B

SL, and HL for Arabic B

Relevant across this corridor, and a course where consistent short sessions beat intensive blocks. Oral assessment carries weight that students tend to discover late, so speaking practice should start early rather than in the final term.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

And the IGCSE side of the same household, where the syllabus code matters more than the subject name because the code determines the papers, the formula sheet and the mark scheme.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Circle theorems, trigonometry diagrams and histograms with unequal intervals return the most marks per hour. Practice must come from the board the child is entered for, because question styles differ enough to mislead.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism cost more marks than any other topic, followed by uncertainty and graph gradient work in the practical paper. Many candidates state the physics correctly and lose the mark on units or significant figures.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and organic pathways decide the grade, and the paper rewards precise language. Writing that a reaction is faster rather than naming the increased frequency of successful collisions earns the idea and not the mark.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Approachable enough to be under-revised. The extended-response questions on transport, homeostasis and inheritance are where structured answers separate from merely correct ones, and structure is quick to teach.

First Language English (0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the extended reading response carry the paper. Students who read well still lose marks for ignoring audience, form and purpose, which the mark scheme credits explicitly and visibly.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Formulaic, highly trainable exercises across reading, writing and listening, with speaking in 0511. Most of the available improvement is technique and timing rather than general language ability.

Economics (0455) and Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Both assessed on application rather than recall. Business Studies is entirely case-study driven, so practice has to be done on real inserts; revising definitions collects the smallest share of the available marks.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

The bridge into Diploma or A-Level mathematics, introducing calculus and advanced algebra a year early. The strongest preparation available for Analysis and Approaches, and worth taking if the school offers it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover most dual-board households in this corridor, and the sensible choice depends on which child needs what. All run over live video, with nobody travelling to a UAE address.

One tutor, one course, weekly

The default arrangement: a single fixed hour a week per child per subject, with the same tutor across a term so diagnosis accumulates instead of restarting. For Diploma subjects the hour tracks the school's scheme of work; for IGCSE it works from the current worksheet and the marked mock.

  • Same tutor across the term, so patterns are noticed rather than re-discovered
  • Runs on the school's own material instead of a parallel syllabus
  • Written note after each session naming topic and next target
  • Slot held through mock weeks rather than dropped and rebooked

Two children, two boards, one schedule

Common in Khalifa City: one child on the Diploma and one on IGCSE, often at different schools with different term rhythms. Managed as two separate matches on one family schedule, back-to-back where that suits the household, because the teaching requirements have almost nothing in common.

  • Separate tutors matched per child and per course, never one generalist for both
  • Back-to-back slots where the household prefers a single evening
  • One point of contact for scheduling across both children
  • Reviewed per child, since progress rarely moves at the same pace

Internal assessment and coursework coaching

Short, bounded work on a Diploma internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge exhibition or an IGCSE coursework component. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions method and marks drafts against descriptors. The student writes every word and performs every calculation.

  • Criteria and mark allocations taught before any drafting begins
  • Research questions stress-tested for whether they can carry the work
  • Drafts marked against descriptors, with nothing rewritten by the tutor
  • Referencing and data provenance checked before school submission

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Khalifa City

01

What a widening search radius actually adds

Try the experiment honestly and the result is consistent. Search within a few kilometres of Khalifa City and you find people who can help with primary numeracy, lower secondary maths and general study habits. Extend it across Al Raha and Mohammed Bin Zayed City and the count rises while the specialism does not, because the additional names are mostly generalists serving a bigger population. Extend it to the island and you reach genuine Diploma depth, at which point the price includes two bridge crossings and the 16:00 slot becomes impossible.

The requests where this breaks down are predictable. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Chemistry at Higher Level with an internal assessment deadline in the same month. Edexcel-specific science codes where the family has assumed Cambridge. Arabic as a first language. Theory of Knowledge, which almost nobody advertises because almost nobody teaches it. For each of these the local pool in any single Abu Dhabi community is thin, and widening the radius dilutes rather than concentrates it.

The honest way to run the search is to invert it. Decide the course and level first, including the syllabus code where there is one, then ask who can teach that, then ask how the lesson reaches your child. Done in that order, proximity turns out to be a delivery question rather than a quality question, and it has a straightforward answer that does not involve anybody driving to a Khalifa City gate at five o'clock.

IB and IGCSE in one household: what each actually demands

Families running both boards at once usually discover that the two children need entirely different kinds of help, and that the word tutor covers both badly. IGCSE is a terminal examination qualification: the grade is produced by written papers in a single series, so the work is content coverage, paper technique and timing, and progress is measurable against past papers from the correct board. The diagnostic document is a marked mock script, and the plan runs backwards from the first paper.

The Diploma is a two-year portfolio with examinations at the end. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay sit outside any single subject, and school internal deadlines bind harder than anything the board publishes. The diagnostic documents are the school's internal calendar and the published assessment criteria, and the plan runs forwards from the criteria rather than backwards from a paper.

That difference has a practical consequence for hiring. A tutor who is excellent at IGCSE paper technique may have no useful opinion about whether a research question can carry a Higher Level internal assessment, and a Diploma specialist may be an expensive way to teach circle theorems. Hiring one person for both children because they live nearby is the specific mistake a near-me search encourages, and it is usually the more expensive option once the wasted sessions are counted. Two matched tutors on one family schedule cost roughly the same and waste fewer hours, because neither is learning the other child's course on your time.

Who regulates your child's school, and why it matters

Abu Dhabi families often assume a single national regulator and there are five. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain. Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The practical content differs by emirate, and not only in inspection. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval sits with the emirate rather than only with the school. The federal baseline underneath all of it is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

For a Khalifa City family this matters in two concrete ways. Inspection ratings for your child's school are published by ADEK, not by a Dubai body, so a rating quoted from a KHDA report is about a different school system. And no tutoring provider, including this one, holds approval from any of these authorities. A platform offering private tuition is not inspected by ADEK, and any claim of regulator approval should be treated as a reason to look elsewhere.

MoE equivalency: what a certificate has to show

Families planning on UAE universities meet equivalency late, and it is one of the few genuinely rule-bound things in this market. For the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That last detail is where a widely-read competitor page gets it wrong, publishing a requirement for six IGCSE subjects. The correct figure is five, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, which changes subject-choice planning in Year 9 for a Khalifa City family. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math before applying.

For the IB, no points threshold is published here, and that is deliberate. The article these requirements come from states no IB threshold, and no figure should be put in front of a parent without having been read on the Ministry's own site or the emirate attestation authority's page. Equivalency is also not something a tutoring provider performs, guarantees or expedites. Describe it, check it against the official channel, and treat anybody offering to secure it as a warning sign.

The line a near-me search never tells you about

  • Ask any provider what they will refuse to do; the answer is diagnostic
  • Criteria coaching, method questioning and draft marking are legitimate
  • No part of a submission may be drafted or rewritten by a tutor
  • Official syllabus documents and mark schemes are linked, never supplied as downloads
  • Originality checks and submission declarations make the shortcut visible

One part of this market sells finished assessed work, and at least one provider visible in UAE search results advertises completed Internal Assessments at a stated price. It is worth naming plainly what that is. Submitting work a student did not produce is malpractice under IB rules and a disciplinary matter at every board, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller. No tutor may write an internal assessment, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay or any coursework component, at any price, for any deadline.

What a tutor may do is substantial, legitimate and worth buying. Teaching what each assessment criterion credits, so the student knows where the marks are. Stress-testing a research question before weeks are invested in it. Reading a draft and saying where the argument thins. Questioning a method until the student finds the flaw themselves. Modelling an analysis on different data so the technique transfers. Marking against descriptors. Checking referencing and data provenance before submission.

The boundary is also practical rather than merely ethical. Schools in this corridor run originality checks as routine, internal assessments are submitted with declarations, and a draft that reads nothing like a student's class work is the easiest thing in the world to notice. A family paying for genuine criteria coaching gets a mark that survives scrutiny. A family paying for a document is buying an exposure it cannot withdraw once the submission is made.

06

Is the person you found permitted to tutor here?

A near-me search returns names, not permissions, and private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the private tuition work permit, administered through MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

No fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here; a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source and is left out deliberately. MoHRE's own service page for the permit lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services system. The permit attaches to the individual, which means no agency or platform can hold it on a tutor's behalf, and a tutor who holds one can simply say so.

There is a second rule a Khalifa City family should know. ADEK's professional-ethics requirements for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy text, so verify it against the current ADEK document. The principle is sound regardless: the person who marks the school assessment should not be paid privately to prepare your child for it.

07

What to send when you ask anybody for a quote

  • Board and syllabus code, or Diploma course and level, with the tier
  • School, year group and the deadline that genuinely binds
  • The marked script, attached rather than described
  • The time window that survives a bad week
  • Whether marking and written feedback sit inside the rate
  • What happens if the match is wrong, and what the provider will refuse to do

Quotes in this market are not comparable because the requests are not. One family asks for a maths tutor and another asks for a tutor who has taught Cambridge 0580 Extended to the examination and can mark a full paper against the scheme within the fee. They get very different answers, and the second family can actually compare the replies. Writing the request properly takes five minutes and is the highest-return effort available before any money is spent.

Include six things. The board and syllabus code, or the Diploma course and level, with the tier where one exists. The school and the year group. What the most recent marked assessment shows, with the script attached if possible. The window your week genuinely has, not the one you would prefer. Whether marking and written feedback are expected inside the rate. And the deadline that actually matters, which for a Diploma student is usually a school internal deadline rather than an examination.

Then ask every provider the same two closing questions. What happens if the match is wrong, and what will you refuse to do. The first tells you whether you are buying a relationship or a subscription. The second tells you whether you are dealing with a teaching service or an essay mill. Both answers arrive quickly from anybody serious, and the comparison between three replies is usually decisive without any further research. Keep the replies, too: a provider who answers precisely in writing before any payment tends to keep answering precisely afterwards, and one who answers vaguely has told you how the arrangement will feel in month three.

08

When nearness genuinely matters

  • Nearness is right for young children and where a professional has recommended it
  • For Diploma and Extended-tier subjects, course depth beats distance
  • Live video with a shared whiteboard loses little for academic subjects at this level
  • Test the format with the free hour rather than deciding it in advance

This page argues against proximity as a filter, and there are cases where that argument does not hold. A young child who needs an adult physically in the room, a student with a learning need where in-person support has been recommended by a professional, and a household with unreliable connectivity are all situations where a local tutor is the right answer and the travel premium is money well spent. Saying otherwise would be selling rather than advising.

For a Khalifa City family with a Diploma or Extended-tier requirement, the calculation runs the other way. The specialist who has taught your child's exact course is unlikely to live within a workable drive, and insisting that they do means accepting a generalist instead. Live video with a shared whiteboard and the school's own worksheet open loses very little for an academic subject at this level, and it gains the one thing that actually moves a grade, which is somebody who knows the paper.

The way to resolve it is to test rather than theorise. One free hour over live video, no card details, no commitment, working on the problem your child is currently stuck on. Either the explanation lands and the format turns out to be irrelevant, or it does not and you have learned something real for nothing. That is a better basis for a decision than a search radius, and it is available before any Abu Dhabi tutor would have finished the drive to your gate.

Where we tutor

How far a near-me search reaches from Khalifa City

These are the communities a Khalifa City search radius picks up as it widens, and what each one adds. The pattern is the argument: distance adds travel cost and generalists rather than course depth.

Khalifa City A

The first few kilometres. Enough tutors for primary and lower secondary support, thin for Diploma Higher Level and for Extended-tier sciences in any given week.

Al Raha Gardens

Adds families and a school but few additional specialists, because the community's own Diploma demand already absorbs the tutors who live there.

Al Raha Beach

Apartment density adds numbers to a search without adding depth. Most listings here are generalist, and evening availability is the real constraint.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A large pool weighted towards other curricula, so it broadens subject coverage more than it deepens IB Diploma coverage.

Al Reef

Adds travel time in both directions and almost no new specialists. This is where a widening radius starts costing more than it returns.

Al Reem Island

Where a significant share of experienced Abu Dhabi tutors live. Reaching them in person means paying for a bridge crossing twice per session.

Yas Island and Saadiyat Island

Established Diploma teaching and premium rates. A genuine source of depth, and the furthest point at which in-home delivery to Khalifa City stays practical.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Name the Diploma course and level, or the IGCSE board, code and tier, for each child. That is the filter that determines whether a tutor can help at all, and it is the step a near-me search skips entirely.

  2. 02

Send the right document per child

For an IGCSE student, the marked mock script with annotations intact. For a Diploma student, the school's internal deadline calendar and the relevant assessment criteria. The two boards need different diagnostics, and sending both is how a dual-board household saves a month.

  3. 03

Hear the availability before the trial

You are told the match time for your specific course, and where the tutor is based, before anything is booked. Mainstream requests move in days; Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and Theory of Knowledge can take longer, and that is said rather than hidden.

  4. 04

    Take the free hour

One hour over live video, no card details, no commitment, spent on a real problem from your child's own material. You are testing whether the explanation lands and whether the format matters as much as you expected.

  5. 05

Review per child, not per household

Two children on two boards progress at different speeds, and a single review date hides that. Each match is reviewed against its own starting document after four sessions, and changed independently if nothing has moved.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by course, not by distance

The filter is the Diploma course and level or the IGCSE code and tier, because that is what determines whether somebody can teach your child's examination. Distance determines only how long the drive would have been, and no drive is involved.

Both boards under one arrangement

Diploma and IGCSE handled as separate matches on one family schedule, because a household with children on both boards needs two kinds of teaching and one point of contact for scheduling, not one generalist doing both badly.

Availability said out loud

Match times differ by course, and the tightest requests in this corridor are stated before the trial rather than discovered in session four. No competitor page studied for this search discloses a coverage limit at all.

Regulator facts, not regulator claims

ADEK, KHDA, SPEA and the Ministry of Education are explained with their published remits and sources. IB Gram holds approval from none of them and says so, because a claim of regulator approval is the single most dangerous line in this market.

A stated refusal on assessed work

Nothing that must be the student's own is drafted, written or edited to submission. Criteria are taught, research questions stress-tested, drafts marked against descriptors. That boundary is published before anybody asks about it.

A free hour instead of an argument

Rather than claiming online matches in-person, the format is tested with one free lesson, no card details and no commitment. If it does not work for your child, you have lost an hour instead of a term's fees.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Khalifa City: your questions answered

Is there an IB and IGCSE tutor near me in Khalifa City?+

For primary and lower secondary support, almost certainly: the local pool handles general maths, science and English well. For a Diploma Higher Level course, an Extended-tier science, an Edexcel-specific code or Arabic as a first language, the in-person pool in any single Abu Dhabi community is thin, and widening the radius towards Al Raha or Mohammed Bin Zayed City adds generalists rather than specialists. IB Gram does not provide in-home tutoring in the UAE at all; lessons are one-to-one over live video, matched on course and syllabus code.

Does online tuition work as well as a tutor in the room?+

For academic subjects at IGCSE and Diploma level, the loss is small and the gain is specific. A shared whiteboard, the school's own worksheet and a marked script on screen cover what a desk covers, and the hour buys a teacher who knows the exact paper rather than the nearest available graduate. Where a professional has recommended in-person support, or where a child genuinely needs an adult in the room, a local tutor is the right answer. The way to settle it is the free trial hour rather than an argument in advance.

Can one tutor handle my Diploma child and my IGCSE child?+

It is usually the wrong economy, even though it looks like the convenient one. IGCSE work is content coverage, board-specific paper technique and timing, measured against past papers. Diploma work is internal assessment design, criteria discipline and school internal deadlines. Those are different jobs, and somebody strong at one often has no useful opinion about the other. Two matched tutors on one family schedule, with back-to-back slots if that suits the household, costs about the same and wastes fewer sessions than a single generalist covering both.

Which authority inspects schools in Khalifa City?+

The Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain. Dubai schools are overseen by KHDA, Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the Ministry of Education. Inspection ratings for a Khalifa City school come from ADEK, so a rating quoted from a Dubai report describes a different system. ADEK does not inspect or approve tutoring providers, including this one.

How many IGCSE passes does a Khalifa City leaver need for equivalency?+

Five accredited subjects passed at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One widely-read competitor page states six subjects, which is wrong, and the difference changes subject planning from Year 9. Verify the current requirement through the Ministry's own channel before acting, and treat any provider offering to secure equivalency as a reason for caution.

Why does this page refuse to print an IB equivalency score?+

None is published on this page, deliberately. The source that sets out the British and American track requirements states no IB threshold, and putting an unsourced points figure in front of a parent is the kind of error that gets acted on. Check the Ministry of Education's own site or the emirate attestation authority's page, or ask your child's IB coordinator, who deals with the process for the school's leavers each year. Treat any number quoted without a government source attached as unverified, wherever it appears.

Do tutors in Abu Dhabi need a licence or permit?+

A permit, yes. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and students aged fifteen to eighteen. Anybody tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published so no figure is quoted here. The permit attaches to the individual rather than to a platform, so ask the tutor directly.

Could we just pay the class teacher at my child's Khalifa City school?+

They should not. ADEK's professional-ethics requirements for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the private tuition permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported rather than taken from the policy text, so verify it against the current ADEK document. The underlying point stands either way: the person setting and marking the school assessment is the wrong person to be paid privately to prepare for it.

What should I include when asking three providers for a quote?+

Six things, and the replies become comparable. The board and syllabus code, or the Diploma course and level, with the tier. The school and year group. The most recent marked assessment, attached rather than described. The weekly window that survives a bad week. Whether marking and written feedback are expected inside the rate. And the deadline that genuinely binds, which for a Diploma student is usually a school internal deadline. Then ask everybody the same two closing questions: what happens if the match is wrong, and what will you refuse to do.

What will a tutor refuse to do on an internal assessment?+

Write, draft, rewrite or edit to submission any part of it. A tutor may teach what each criterion credits, stress-test a research question before weeks go into it, question a method until the student finds the flaw, model an analysis on different data, mark drafts against the descriptors and check referencing. At least one provider advertising in UAE search results sells completed Internal Assessments, which is malpractice under IB rules and falls on the student rather than the seller. Asking the question directly is the fastest way to sort a teaching service from an essay mill.

How quickly can a tutor be matched for a Khalifa City household?+

Mainstream requests move in a few days: Cambridge 0580 Extended, 0625, 0500, Applications and Interpretation at either level. Tighter requests take up to a week or more, particularly Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge and Edexcel-specific science codes, and they get tighter again near school internal deadlines. You are told which category your request falls into before the trial, along with where the tutor is based, rather than being given a fast general match that produces repeated diagnosis later.

Is there a Khalifa City centre or branch we can walk into?+

No, and it would be worth asking any provider the same question. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the UAE, and nothing on this page should suggest otherwise. Two competitor pages studied for this search route UAE parents to a foreign phone number without saying where teaching happens, and one shows a Dubai footer address on an Abu Dhabi page. Delivery for Khalifa City is one-to-one over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time, and that is the whole of the arrangement.

My child is switching from MYP into an IGCSE school. What changes?+

The evidence base changes, and that is the whole difficulty. MYP assesses against four criteria graded 1 to 8, with investigation and communication credited heavily and no terminal written papers in most schools. IGCSE produces the grade from written papers in a single series. Students arrive able to reason about unfamiliar problems and unfamiliar with structured paper technique, timing and the habit of showing ordered working. The gap is specific and closes fastest in the term after the move, especially in maths and the sciences.

Which subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in this corridor?+

Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, consistently. Then Theory of Knowledge, which almost nobody advertises because almost nobody teaches it. Then Extended-tier chemistry and physics tied to an internal assessment or coursework deadline in the same month, Edexcel-specific science codes where a family had assumed Cambridge, and Arabic as a first language. These are exactly the requests where distance is the wrong filter, because the number of people who can teach them well in any one Abu Dhabi community is small regardless of how wide the search gets.

If the first match misses, who pays for the second one?+

The next match is arranged at no additional cost, and the trial is repeated with the new tutor. That is a deliberate part of the arrangement rather than a concession, because the only reliable test of a match is whether the explanation lands for your particular child, and no profile or review predicts it. Say so early: the arrangements that fail are the ones where a family keeps a poor match out of politeness for half a term. Each child's match is reviewed separately after four sessions.

Swap the radius for the syllabus code

A search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Khalifa City is really a search for somebody who knows the exact paper your child is sitting. Proximity is the wrong filter for that, and widening it adds travel rather than depth. Name the Diploma course and level, or the IGCSE board, code and tier, send the marked script or the school's internal deadline calendar, and take the free hour over live video with no card details attached. Then judge the match on whether your child follows the explanation.
