IB Home Tutor in Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Mohammed Bin Zayed City almost always start with a price question, and almost nobody answers it. This page does. It sets out what the Abu Dhabi market charges per hour in AED, what the travel element of an in-home visit actually buys, and what a Diploma year costs once Internal Assessment support and resits are counted. IB Gram delivers its Mohammed Bin Zayed City tuition one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Start with the number, because every other decision follows from it

A family in Mohammed Bin Zayed City typing "IB home tutor" into Google is usually three weeks past the point where a school report said something uncomfortable. The search is practical, not exploratory. It needs a rate, a format, a start date and an honest answer about whether the money will do anything. Of the pages currently ranking for that phrase, half publish no price at all, and two of the ones that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency anybody in the MBZ zones pays rent in.

So here is the market, in AED, before any of the argument. A university-student or budget online tutor in Abu Dhabi is advertised from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour; EdFlik lists rates from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to AED 52. A qualified subject specialist working online sits in the AED 150 to AED 300 band, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An in-home one-to-one visit, with the travel built in, is quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 by the providers who publish anything. A named Diploma specialist runs AED 200 to AED 450 and upwards, and the premium end, BartyED among them, reaches AED 650. Those are market figures read from provider pages in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

The gap between AED 150 and AED 500 is where most of the money in this market is lost, and it is rarely lost on quality. It is lost on geography. Mohammed Bin Zayed City is a large mainland grid of numbered zones south of the island, bordered by Mussafah on one side and the Sweihan road corridor on the other. A tutor who lives on Abu Dhabi island and agrees to come to a villa in Zone 12 is pricing a round trip of forty to seventy minutes into every single hour you buy. At the mid band that premium is AED 60 to AED 150 a session, and it buys nothing a student can write in an exam.

The second place money disappears is subject fit. Diploma Programme assessment is specific to the point of being unforgiving. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL sets a Paper 3 worth a fifth of the grade and tests problem-solving in extended, unfamiliar contexts. Chemistry HL asks for data analysis under a rubric most generalist tutors have never read. A competent all-rounder who lives fifteen minutes away will be cheaper per hour and more expensive per mark than a specialist two emirates or two time zones away who has taught that exact component for years. Online delivery removes the geography constraint entirely, which is the whole reason IB Gram works this way.

What follows is the full cost picture for an MBZ City family: the rate bands with their sources, the travel premium priced out, the costs that sit outside the hourly rate, the four most common ways parents overspend, and the honest position on what a tutor may and may not do with an Internal Assessment. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Mohammed Bin Zayed City address; home visits are a service offered only in India. Everything here is delivered one-to-one over live video, and the comparison table further down is the argument for why that is the better buy rather than a consolation.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mohammed Bin Zayed City households sit across the full International Baccalaureate range, from primary-age children in the PYP to Diploma candidates in their second year. The cost of support changes sharply between them, so each programme below carries its own price logic rather than a single blended rate.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is transdisciplinary and inquiry-led, with no external examinations. Support here is about literacy fluency, number sense and the habits that make the Middle Years Programme survivable: reading for inference, showing working, finishing a task. Sessions are short, usually thirty to forty-five minutes, because attention rather than content is the limiting factor at this age.

For an MBZ City family this is the cheapest intervention available and the one with the longest payback. A weekly half-hour at the lower end of the market band costs less per month than a single exam-year session at the specialist rate. Parents who wait until Year 10 pay several times more for the same gap in fractions or sentence construction.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight and reported as a one-to-eight level rather than a percentage. Students lose marks for not meeting command terms in the task instruction, not for lacking content. The Personal Project in the final year is the first piece of genuinely independent work most students meet.

MYP support is the band where MBZ City parents most often buy the wrong thing. A tutor who drills content will not move a criterion-C level, because criterion C rewards communication. One term of fortnightly work on how the criteria are worded costs under a thousand dirhams at market mid rates and changes the reports more than a year of content revision.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment worth a fifth to a quarter of the grade, and the externally examined papers carry the rest. The Diploma is scored out of 45, with three bonus points available from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix.

This is where the AED 200 to AED 450 specialist band applies and where it is worth paying. A Diploma candidate in MBZ City typically needs two subjects supported, not six, and a defined block of hours around the Internal Assessment deadlines their own school sets. Costed properly, that is a planned spend rather than an open-ended monthly bill.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs at least two Diploma Programme courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is offered by a small number of UAE schools and suits students who want applied study alongside recognised DP subjects rather than the full six-subject Diploma load.

Because CP students usually take only two or three DP courses, the support bill is smaller and more predictable. An MBZ City family with a CP candidate is generally buying one subject at the specialist rate plus occasional help structuring the reflective project, which lands at the bottom of the monthly bands quoted above.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Price varies by subject more than most parents expect, because the supply of tutors who have actually taught a component differs enormously between subjects. The notes below name what each course assesses and where marks go missing, which is what you are really buying hours against.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Five topic areas: number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, calculus. HL adds a third paper worth twenty per cent of the grade, sat without a syllabus prompt and built around extended problem-solving. Marks go on method lines left unwritten and on calculus notation that examiners will not infer.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Graphical calculator work runs through both papers, with modelling, statistics and financial mathematics weighted far more heavily than in Analysis and Approaches. The common failure is treating it as the easy route: AI HL contains serious content and the Exploration is marked against the same twenty-mark rubric as AA.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, fields, nuclear and quantum physics, with an HL extension in each. Multiple-choice Paper 1A punishes unit slips; Paper 2 extended response punishes answers that describe rather than explain. The scientific investigation is the single largest block of coursework marks in the course.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity organised around two overarching themes, with organic mechanisms and energetics the two topics MBZ City students most often ask about. Data-based questions require a stated uncertainty and a conclusion that matches the data rather than the textbook.

Biology

HL and SL

Unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and interdependence, continuity and change. The volume of content misleads students into memorising at the expense of command-term precision: outline, explain, distinguish and evaluate each carry different mark-scheme expectations.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, assessed partly through portfolio commentaries built on published news articles. HL adds a quantitative paper. Commentaries lose marks on diagram labelling and on failing to apply a key concept explicitly.

Business Management

HL and SL

Business organisation, human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing and operations. The HL research project and the SL business idea both require primary or secondary evidence handled properly. Answers that recite theory without applying it to the named organisation stall at the middle bands.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Guided textual analysis, comparative essay work and an individual oral linking a global issue to two texts. HL adds a written essay. The individual oral is the component that most benefits from rehearsal, because the ten-minute structure is as marked as the content.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects answering a prescribed prompt, plus a 1,600-word essay on a title set by the IB. TOK contributes to the three bonus points alongside the Extended Essay. Students lose marks by describing objects instead of justifying their link to the prompt.

Arabic and UAE Social Studies

MoE-mandated streams

Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral studies alongside their licensed international curriculum. KHDA, as the Dubai regulator, requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students on these subjects, and the federal rule behind that requirement applies across the emirates.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are genuinely available to a Mohammed Bin Zayed City family, and they cost different amounts for different reasons. The descriptions below separate what you pay for from what you receive.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor, shared screen and a digital whiteboard, on Gulf Standard Time. This is the default and the format the market mid band of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour refers to. Nothing is paid for travel, so the whole fee is teaching time.

  • Same tutor each week, chosen for the exact subject and level
  • Sessions recorded notes and worked solutions kept after the lesson
  • Slots from 16:00 to 21:00 GST, after the MBZ school run
  • No travel element in the price

Intensive block before a session

A defined number of hours bought as a block in the weeks before the May examinations or a mock window, usually two or three sessions a week on past papers and mark-scheme technique. Market monthly figures for this intensity sit at the AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 end of the published estimates.

  • Fixed hour count agreed in advance, not an open monthly bill
  • Past-paper work under timed conditions with marked feedback
  • Command-term and mark-scheme drilling rather than new content
  • Finishes on a date, so the spend has an end

Coursework checkpoints

Short, spaced sessions tied to the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge deadlines the student's own school has set. The tutor reads drafts, questions the method and teaches the criteria. The student writes every word themselves, which is the only version of this that is permissible.

  • Sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines, not ours
  • Criteria explained letter by letter with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, questioning rather than rewriting
  • Cheaper than weekly support because the hours are concentrated

01

What an IB home tutor in Mohammed Bin Zayed City costs, by provider model

The honest summary is a range, because the Abu Dhabi market is not a single market. A qualified subject tutor working online is advertised in the AED 150 to AED 300 band. An in-home one-to-one visit, travel included, is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500. A named Diploma specialist runs AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, and the premium end of the market reaches AED 650 an hour. Budget providers advertise from AED 33 to AED 150, usually with university students teaching. All of those figures were read from provider pages in October 2026, and every one of them belongs to the provider named, not to IB Gram.

The table below compares the models rather than the brands, because comparing brands on price is how this market generates its misleading claims. What matters to a parent in Zone 18 is not which agency is cheapest but which model puts a specialist in front of their child for the fewest wasted dirhams. The columns that decide that are the travel element, the permit position and whether a replacement is possible if the match is wrong.

Two columns deserve a note. The permit column refers to the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and issued free of charge for two years. Anyone providing private lessons in the UAE without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted at you. The replacement column matters because the single largest hidden cost in tutoring is paying for six sessions with a tutor who was never the right fit and starting again.

Read the table as a shopping guide rather than a ranking. A tuition centre group class at the bottom of the rate range is genuinely good value for IGCSE content revision. It is poor value for a Higher Level Internal Assessment, where the whole point is individual method. Matching the model to the task is what reduces the bill.

02

The travel premium, priced out for a Zone 18 villa

Take a concrete case. A tutor living in Al Khalidiyah agrees to teach a Diploma student in one of the central MBZ City zones at six in the evening. The drive out is twenty-five to forty minutes depending on how the Mussafah approach is running; the drive back is similar. That is roughly an hour of the tutor's working evening consumed by the road, on top of the hour taught. A tutor who needs to earn AED 200 for an hour of teaching has to charge something closer to AED 300 to make the journey worth making, and the published in-home bands reflect exactly that arithmetic.

The parent pays that premium, and it is worth being clear about what it purchases. It purchases the tutor being physically present. It does not purchase more teaching time, better subject knowledge, a specialist in the right component, or availability on the evening the student actually needs. At the top of the in-home band, AED 500 an hour, something like a third of the fee is road.

There is a second cost nobody quotes, which is scheduling fragility. A tutor driving across the emirate for one lesson will cancel when the traffic is bad, when a prior lesson overruns, or when a family event intervenes. Over a Diploma year that attrition matters more than the hourly rate, because the sessions lost are usually the ones closest to a deadline. Online slots do not fail for traffic.

None of that makes in-home tutoring a bad product. For a Year 3 child who cannot yet work independently on a screen, a person in the room is the right answer, and families in MBZ City who want that should budget the published AED 180 to AED 500 for it. What it does mean is that for a Diploma candidate, the premium is the least efficient dirham in the whole budget. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; our Mohammed Bin Zayed City lessons run one-to-one over live video, and the comparison below is the reason.

03

The four ways MBZ City families overspend on IB tutoring

  • Two supported subjects beat six, at a third of the cost
  • Buy blocks against your school's deadline calendar, not a rolling monthly commitment
  • Ask the component-level question before accepting a specialist rate
  • Insist on a named tutor, an hour count and a replacement route in writing

The first is buying breadth instead of depth. A Diploma student with a struggling grade in two subjects does not need six tutors; they need two, for a defined number of weeks, with the rest of the time protected for independent practice. Families who buy a tutor per subject typically spend three times what the problem required and leave the student with no time to consolidate. The hour the student spends alone redoing a question is the hour that moves the grade.

The second is paying weekly through the quiet terms. Diploma pressure is not evenly distributed: the Internal Assessment deadlines cluster, the mocks cluster, and the final push before the May session is its own distinct phase. A standing weekly commitment from September through to May at the specialist rate is a large annual figure for a service that was genuinely needed in perhaps eighteen of those weeks. Buying blocks against the school's own deadline calendar costs materially less and achieves more.

The third is paying for a generalist at specialist rates. The question to ask is narrow and specific: has this tutor taught Paper 3 of Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and can they describe how it differs from Paper 2? If the answer is vague, the rate should be a budget rate, because that is what is being supplied. Rates above AED 300 are only defensible for someone who knows the component cold.

The fourth is buying a promise rather than a plan. Any provider who offers a guaranteed grade should be treated with real scepticism, because no tutor controls what a student writes in an examination hall. What a provider can legitimately commit to is a named tutor, a stated number of hours, a defined focus, written feedback and a replacement if the match fails. That list is checkable before you pay. A score promise is not.

04

The costs that sit outside the hourly rate

Tutoring is a line in a much larger education budget, and the hourly rate is a small part of what a Diploma year costs an Abu Dhabi family. Private school fees dominate. In Dubai, the regulator confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the following academic year under the emirate's economic incentives package; Abu Dhabi fee changes run through ADEK's own approval process, which is worth checking before assuming a flat year. Either way, tuition support is being added on top of a fee that is already the largest number in the conversation.

Then there are the costs specific to the examination year. Candidates entered through their school pay entry fees via the school; private candidates pay examination centre fees directly and those are set by the centre, not by the board. A remark or enquiry upon results carries its own fee. A retake in the November Cambridge series, or a resit of a Diploma subject, means a second entry fee and often a second block of tutoring, which is why spending earlier is usually cheaper than spending later.

Coursework support is its own budget line and the one families most often underestimate. The Extended Essay runs over most of a year. Internal Assessments in several subjects land within a few weeks of each other. Theory of Knowledge needs an exhibition and an essay. Treating these as a planned block of checkpoint sessions, rather than emergencies solved at short notice, is both cheaper and considerably less stressful in a household where two or three children are in school at once.

Set against all of this, the question is not whether tutoring is expensive in absolute terms. It is whether a few thousand dirhams, spent in the right eighteen weeks on the right two subjects, protects a much larger spend that is already committed. Framed that way, the overspending described above looks less like extravagance and more like a budgeting error that is easy to avoid.

Internal Assessment support: what the fee can and cannot buy

  • Criteria taught by letter, with mark allocations, before the first draft
  • Topic narrowed until the data or the mathematics is actually obtainable
  • Drafts questioned, never rewritten; the student types every word
  • Referencing and academic honesty declarations covered explicitly

This is the point at which price and integrity collide, and it needs stating plainly. One provider in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price. That is not tutoring. Under IB academic honesty rules, submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student, not the seller. No price makes that a sensible purchase.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial, and it is where the marks actually are. They can teach the assessment criteria letter by letter with their mark allocations, so the student knows that the Mathematics Exploration is marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, and roughly how many marks each carries. They can interrogate a proposed topic until it is narrow enough to be doable. They can read a draft the student has written and ask the questions a moderator would ask. They can teach the referencing convention. None of that involves producing the work.

In practice this makes coursework support one of the better-value things to buy, because the hours are few and their effect is concentrated. A student who understands why reflection is a separately marked criterion writes a different document from one who treats reflection as a closing paragraph. Three or four well-timed sessions, costed as a block, usually do more for a Diploma point total than a term of weekly content revision.

The boundary is also the test of a provider. Ask directly what happens if your child sends over a half-finished essay a day before the deadline. A provider who says they will review it, mark it against the criteria and send questions back is describing teaching. A provider who offers to finish it is describing a risk to your child's Diploma that no tutoring fee should ever purchase.

06

Is your tutor legally permitted to charge you?

Private tutoring in the UAE is a permitted activity with a permit attached, and a surprising number of parents paying cash each week have never asked about it. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The ministry's own service page lists the application through its smart app, website and e-services system, states no fee, and gives a completion time of two working days. The permit is granted free of charge for two years.

Eligibility is broad. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen can all apply. What the permit carries with it is a code of conduct, and one condition inside that code matters to Abu Dhabi families in particular: a teacher may not take paid private work with students affiliated with their own school. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes the same prohibition on tutoring students enrolled at the teacher's own school.

So the sentence "your child's own teacher, privately" is not a feature. It is the arrangement the rules exist to prevent, and it exposes the teacher rather than the family. The useful question to a prospective tutor is simply whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit and whether your child's school is one they are permitted to work with. A tutor operating properly will answer in a sentence.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, and the ministry has not specified amounts, so treat any specific figure you are quoted as unverified. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal category again, needing an educational services permit for a training institute from the relevant regulator, with initial approval first and annual renewal. IB Gram does not operate premises in the UAE and should not be described as holding any such permit.

ADEK, inspection reports and the spend you have already made

Mohammed Bin Zayed City sits in Abu Dhabi, so its private schools are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes inspection outcomes, which is a free and underused source of information for a family deciding where tutoring money should go. It is also the regulator that no competitor page in this market names at all, which tells you something about how locally those pages were written.

An inspection report is more useful to a tutoring decision than a league table. It describes teaching quality by phase and by subject group, names the areas the school has been asked to improve, and gives a view on student outcomes in external examinations. If a report flags secondary mathematics as an area for development, that is a stronger reason to buy Higher Level mathematics support than any marketing claim, and it is published evidence rather than a sales line.

The report also tells you what you should not be buying. Where a school is strong, paid support duplicates provision you have already paid for in fees. Many Abu Dhabi schools run their own after-school clinics, subject surgeries and Internal Assessment workshops at no extra cost. Asking the subject teacher what internal support exists before engaging a tutor is the cheapest step in this entire process and is skipped constantly.

Across the emirates the regulator changes but the principle does not. Dubai schools answer to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the Ministry of Education. The Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula and assessment methods, so regulation in this country reaches considerably further than inspection alone.

08

What the next step costs, and what it does not

The first session with IB Gram is a free trial lesson, with no card required and no package attached before it. Its purpose is narrow: to find out whether this particular tutor and this particular student can work together, and to confirm that the tutor genuinely knows the component in question. A trial that produces a vague, encouraging conversation has told you nothing. A trial that produces a diagnosis of where marks are being lost has told you everything you needed to decide.

After the trial, the shape of the spend is agreed before it starts: which subject, which component, how many hours, at what frequency, finishing on what date. For an MBZ City family that usually means one or two subjects, a fixed evening slot after the drive home, and a review point six sessions in. If the match is wrong, the tutor is changed rather than the family starting over with another provider.

Where a niche Higher Level subject has no UAE-based specialist free, we say so rather than substituting a generalist at a specialist rate. In those cases the match may be a tutor in another time zone teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and the rate and the reasoning are stated upfront. Disclosing a coverage limit is uncomfortable commercially and is the opposite of what this market usually does, which is precisely why it is worth doing.

What the next step does not include is a promise about a number. Nobody can sell a 7 in Chemistry Higher Level, and a provider who implies otherwise is selling something they cannot deliver. What is being offered here is a specialist, a defined block of hours, honest feedback about what the student is actually getting wrong, and a cost you can calculate in advance to the dirham.

Where we tutor

The Mohammed Bin Zayed City zones and the communities around them

MBZ City is not one neighbourhood; it is a grid of numbered zones with different school catchments and different drive times. The notes below matter because an in-home rate is quoted against a specific address, while an online rate is the same from every zone.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Zones 1-12

The older villa zones nearest the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road. Families here reach the island in roughly thirty minutes off-peak and considerably longer at school-run time, which is exactly the window an in-home tutor would price into the fee.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Zones 13-24

Mid-grid villa and townhouse zones with a heavy concentration of Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum enrolment. Diploma candidates here generally commute out of the district, so homework starts late and sessions work better after seven in the evening.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Zones 25-37

The newer southern zones closest to Mussafah and the industrial corridor. Drive times to island schools are the longest in the district, and the local tutor supply thins out sharply for Higher Level sciences.

Mussafah and Shabiya

Directly adjacent to the MBZ grid and sharing much of its school traffic. A tutor quoting a travel-inclusive rate to Mussafah is usually quoting the same journey as to the southern MBZ zones, and the same premium.

Khalifa City

North-east of MBZ across the main highway, with several of the Diploma schools MBZ families enrol in. A twenty to thirty minute drive each way at the wrong time of day, which is why so many families end up taking lessons online.

Al Reef

A commuter community further out towards the airport, often considered in the same breath as MBZ City by tutors quoting travel rates. Online delivery makes the two addresses identical in cost terms.

Baniyas and Al Shamkha

Mainland communities with growing school provision and very limited Higher Level specialist supply. Families here report the longest waits when looking for a local Diploma subject tutor.

Abu Dhabi island, Al Bateen and the Corniche

Where much of the emirate's tutoring supply actually lives. The distance between that supply and an MBZ City villa is the entire reason the in-home premium exists in this district.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and the Mussafah corridor

Schools serving the MBZ grid itself, mostly British and Indian curriculum with IGCSE pathways, and the campuses nearest the southern zones. Students we support in this district attend schools across this cluster.

  • GEMS Cambridge International School - Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS Winchester School - Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National School, Mohamed Bin Zayed Campus
  • Bright Riders School
  • Merryland International School
  • Al Maarif Private School

The Diploma Programme corridor MBZ families drive to

The Abu Dhabi schools authorised to teach the Diploma Programme sit mostly on the island, in Khalifa City and on Saadiyat. MBZ City Diploma candidates generally travel to one of these, which is why evening availability matters more here than in central districts.

  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • The International School of Choueifat - Abu Dhabi

Schools are named as context for the district only. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or in partnership with any school, group or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the component

Not "maths help" but "Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, losing marks on Paper 3". The narrower the brief, the better the match and the fewer hours you buy. Include the school, the year group and the next deadline that matters.

  2. 02

We name the tutor and state the coverage honestly

You get a named specialist with the subjects and levels they teach, not a pool. If no UAE-based tutor covers that component, we say so and explain what the alternative is and what it costs, before you commit anything.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on Gulf Standard Time

A real diagnostic lesson in an evening slot that fits the MBZ City school run. No card details and no package. You should finish it knowing what is going wrong and whether this tutor can fix it.

  4. 04

Agree the hours, the focus and the end date

Weekly through a term, or a defined block before a mock or the May session. The hour count, the focus and the finishing date are set in advance, so the spend is a known figure rather than a rolling bill.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions and adjust

A short written review of what has moved and what has not, against the same component you started with. If the answer is that the subject no longer needs support, we say that and stop, which is the review's whole purpose.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the rate bands, with their sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the market and the provider that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the pages ranking for this search publish no price at all, and two quote in dollars. A parent should not have to telephone to learn the shape of a market.

No travel premium, because there is no travel

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, so none of the fee funds a drive across the emirate to the MBZ zones. At the mid market band that removes roughly AED 60 to AED 150 of dead cost from every session you buy.

Component-level specialists, not local availability

The match is made on whether a tutor has taught the exact paper and level your child sits, rather than on who lives within a twenty-minute drive of Zone 18. For Higher Level sciences and mathematics that difference is the whole value of the arrangement.

Coursework help that stays inside the rules

Criteria taught by letter, drafts questioned, referencing covered, and the student writing every word. We decline requests to produce assessed work, because IB malpractice findings land on the student and no fee is worth that risk.

Costs stated before they are incurred

An hour count, a focus, a frequency and an end date agreed at the start, with a review point six sessions in. Open-ended monthly billing is how families in this market end up spending several times what their problem required.

Coverage limits disclosed, not concealed

If no UAE-based specialist is free for a niche Higher Level subject, we say so and explain the alternative and its rate. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several hide non-UAE delivery behind a foreign phone number.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mohammed Bin Zayed City: your questions answered

How much does an IB home tutor in Mohammed Bin Zayed City cost per hour?+

The Abu Dhabi market splits into bands. Budget online tutors, usually university students, advertise from around AED 33 to AED 150 an hour. A qualified subject specialist online sits between AED 150 and AED 300. In-home one-to-one visits with travel included are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500, and named Diploma specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and upwards, with the premium end reaching AED 650. Those are provider-published market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram's own price list. For an MBZ City address the in-home band carries a travel element the online band does not.

Why is an MBZ City in-home rate higher than an online rate for the same tutor?+

Because you are funding the road. A tutor coming from Abu Dhabi island to a central MBZ City zone spends forty to seventy minutes driving around a one-hour lesson. To earn the same for the evening, they have to charge more per taught hour, and the published in-home bands reflect that arithmetic. At the top of the band something like a third of the fee is travel. That money buys physical presence, which genuinely matters for a young child, but it buys no extra teaching, no better subject knowledge and no specialist in the component your Diploma candidate is losing marks on.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a villa in the MBZ City zones?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service offered only in India. Mohammed Bin Zayed City lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared screen and a digital whiteboard. The practical effect is that your choice of tutor is not limited to people willing to drive to Zone 18 after work. A Chemistry Higher Level specialist who has taught the data-analysis component for years becomes available to you, and the travel premium disappears from the fee entirely.

How many hours of IB tutoring should an MBZ City family budget for?+

Fewer than most families assume, spent more deliberately. A Diploma candidate with two weak subjects usually needs those two supported, not all six, and needs them in concentrated phases rather than evenly across the year. A realistic shape is weekly sessions in one subject through a term, plus a defined block of three or four coursework checkpoint sessions, plus an intensive block of two sessions a week in the weeks before the May examinations. Market monthly estimates for a weekly specialist session run roughly AED 600 to AED 1,200, with exam-year intensity reaching AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above.

Are monthly tutoring packages better value than paying by the hour?+

Sometimes, and the test is whether the package matches the term you are in. Packages advertised in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. A package is good value during a phase of genuine need, such as the run-up to mocks or an Internal Assessment deadline cluster. It is poor value as a standing arrangement through quiet terms, which is where families overspend. Buy blocks against your school's own deadline calendar rather than a rolling commitment.

Which IB subjects cost the most to find support for in Abu Dhabi?+

The scarce ones. Higher Level mathematics, physics and chemistry command the top of the rate band because the pool of tutors who have actually taught those components is small, and smaller still in the mainland districts. Group 2 languages at Higher Level and specialist options such as Higher Level economics quantitative work are similarly thin. Group 1 English and Standard Level humanities are much better supplied and therefore cheaper. Online delivery flattens this somewhat, because the match is made from a national pool rather than from whoever is free within driving distance of Mohammed Bin Zayed City.

Can one tutor cover two or three of my child's IB subjects?+

Occasionally, and it is usually a false economy at Diploma level. Mathematics and physics sometimes pair credibly in the same person. Chemistry and biology rarely do at Higher Level, because the assessment demands differ. The question to ask is component-specific: has this tutor taught that exact paper at that exact level, and can they describe how its mark scheme differs from the paper before it? If the answer covers one subject convincingly and the others vaguely, you are paying a specialist rate for generalist teaching in two of three subjects.

Do private tutors working in Mohammed Bin Zayed City need a permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, the ministry's service page lists no fee and a two working day completion time, and eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you are quoted as unverified.

Can my child be tutored privately by their own teacher from school?+

That arrangement is the one the rules are designed to prevent. The code of conduct attached to the MoHRE private tuition permit bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff being prohibited from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their school. The exposure falls on the teacher rather than on your family, but it is still not a sound basis for a working relationship. A tutor with no connection to the school is the straightforward route.

Can an MBZ City tutor help with the Internal Assessment without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, and the permitted help is where most of the available marks sit. A tutor can teach the assessment criteria letter by letter with their mark allocations, narrow an unworkable topic into a doable one, read a draft the student has written and ask the questions a moderator would ask, and teach the referencing convention. What no tutor may do is produce the work. Submitting anything that is not the student's own is malpractice under IB academic honesty rules, and the consequence lands on the student. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments; that is a risk no fee justifies.

When do UAE students actually sit their exams, and how does that affect cost?+

IB Diploma candidates in the UAE sit the May session, with November available as a second session at some schools. Cambridge International runs June and November series for UAE candidates; the February and March series is offered to India only, so no UAE family should be planning around it. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Cost follows the calendar: rates do not change but intensity does, and the weeks before a session are when families buy two or three sessions a week instead of one. Planning that block early is cheaper than booking it in panic.

Is it too late to start tutoring if exams are two months away?+

No, but what the money can achieve changes. With eight weeks left, new content is a poor investment and examination technique is a good one: past papers under timed conditions, command-term precision, mark-scheme reading, and the two or three topics where the student loses the most marks for the least effort. That is a defined block, usually two sessions a week, with an end date. What eight weeks cannot do is rebuild two years of Higher Level mathematics, and any provider suggesting otherwise is selling optimism rather than teaching.

What should I ask before paying a tutor anything in Abu Dhabi?+

Five questions settle it. Which exact papers and levels have you taught for this subject, and how do their mark schemes differ? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition permit? What happens after six sessions if nothing has moved? Will I get written feedback I can read? And what will you do if my child sends you an unfinished Internal Assessment the night before the deadline? The last answer is the most revealing: review and question is teaching, finishing it for them is a risk to your child's Diploma.

Does ADEK publish anything that helps me decide where to spend?+

Yes, and it is free. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes describing teaching quality by phase and subject group, alongside the areas a school has been asked to improve. If a report flags secondary mathematics, that is published evidence for buying Higher Level mathematics support rather than a marketing claim. The same report also shows where a school is strong, which is where paid support duplicates provision your fees already cover. Many Abu Dhabi schools run free subject clinics worth asking about first.

What happens if no UAE-based tutor covers my child's Higher Level subject?+

We tell you, which is not the market norm. For a niche Higher Level option there may be no Abu Dhabi specialist with a free evening slot. In that case the match may be a specialist in another time zone teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and we state that and the rate before anything is agreed. Several providers in this market conceal non-UAE delivery behind a foreign contact number; disclosing a coverage limit upfront is less comfortable commercially and considerably more useful to a parent trying to plan an exam year.

Work out the number before you commit to it

Tutoring in Abu Dhabi is not expensive so much as badly budgeted. The AED bands on this page are the market, published by the providers named and read in October 2026, and they show where the waste sits: travel premiums that buy no teaching, generalists charged at specialist rates, and standing monthly commitments through terms when nothing was needed. A Mohammed Bin Zayed City family who supports two subjects for a defined block of hours, online and on Gulf Standard Time, spends a fraction of what the open-ended version costs. Start with a free trial lesson, ask the component-level question, and agree the hours before the first dirham moves.
