IB Home Tutor in Madinat Zayed

The real question behind a search for an IB home tutor in Madinat Zayed is whether anyone within reach actually knows your child's Diploma course. This page answers that honestly rather than reassuringly: how thin the specialist pool is in Abu Dhabi, five questions that test a tutor in ten minutes, and exactly what we do when the right specialist is not free. Tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Availability stated before payment, with an expected wait
  • Tutor location disclosed, including outside the UAE
  • Matched by Diploma course and level, never by proximity
  • Free trial lesson, no card required, used as a diagnosis

IB & IGCSE in Madinat Zayed

Does anybody near Madinat Zayed actually teach this course?

That is the question, and it deserves a real answer rather than a page of reassurance. Madinat Zayed sits in central Abu Dhabi, close to Al Markaziyah, Al Danah and Khalidiya, within easy reach of the island's school network. Finding someone willing to tutor nearby is not difficult. Finding someone who has taught Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level, or Economics internal assessment commentaries, or Analysis and Approaches Paper 3, within driving distance and free at five o'clock on a Tuesday, is a different proposition entirely.

The arithmetic is simple and nobody in this market publishes it. The Diploma is offered by a modest number of schools in Abu Dhabi. Each school runs a single cohort per course per year, sometimes in single figures at Higher Level. The adults qualified to teach a specific Higher Level course are therefore a small group, most of them employed full-time, and some of them barred from tutoring students at their own school under professional-ethics rules. A family searching for one of those people inside a twenty-minute radius is searching a very small space.

For a popular Standard Level subject the picture is better. Standard Level mathematics, Business Management and English have reasonable coverage, and an in-home arrangement in Madinat Zayed is genuinely achievable at published market rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. The trouble starts where the need is specific, and specific needs are exactly what families tend to have by the time they start searching.

This matters because the alternative to disclosure is a bad outcome three weeks in. A family pays for a tutor described as an IB specialist, discovers in session three that the tutor is learning the course alongside the student, and has lost both the money and the weeks. That pattern is common enough in this market that it is worth arming a parent against it, which is what the five-question test further down this page is for. Ten minutes of specific questions, asked before any money changes hands, filters out most of the people who should not be teaching a Diploma course, and none of those questions requires the parent to understand the subject.

IB Gram's answer is to widen the pool rather than to pretend it is wide. Tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the exact course and level, which removes distance from the selection entirely. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. And when the specialist a family needs is not available, we say so, give an expected wait, and put the alternatives in writing instead of quietly matching whoever is free.

At a glance

  • Higher Level cohorts in Abu Dhabi are often in single figures per school
  • Qualified teachers of a specific course are a small, mostly employed group
  • Professional-ethics rules bar tutoring a teacher's own enrolled students
  • Standard Level coverage is reasonable; Higher Level coverage is thin
  • Five questions will test whether a tutor knows the course
  • When nobody is free, you get a wait and written alternatives
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Availability behaves differently in each programme, and knowing where your child sits tells you how hard the search will be before you start it.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, with internal assessments carrying substantial weight in most subjects, plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Grades run 1 to 7 inside a 45-point total. The specialism required is narrow: a tutor needs the course and the level, not the subject.

This is where coverage is tightest in Abu Dhabi. Diploma provision concentrates in a limited number of schools, Higher Level cohorts are small, and demand for the same specialists peaks simultaneously across the city before mock windows and internal assessment deadlines. A family in Madinat Zayed should expect to search outside the neighbourhood and plan earlier than feels necessary.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to 5

Middle Years Programme

Four assessment criteria per subject, each marked 0 to 8, with a Personal Project in the final year. Subject demand is broader and less specialised, so the available pool of competent tutors is considerably larger than at Diploma level.

MYP is where a local arrangement is easiest to defend on its own terms. The teaching need is general rather than course-specific, so proximity costs a family less here than it would at Higher Level, and a parent in Madinat Zayed choosing an in-home tutor for an MYP 3 student is not sacrificing much.

PYPAges 3-12

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, transdisciplinary and without external examinations. Support is about reading, number fluency and confidence, and the honest position is that most primary students do not need paid tutoring at all.

Coverage here is not the problem; necessity is. If a Madinat Zayed family is being sold a long weekly commitment for a primary-aged child, ask what specific outcome it is aimed at and what would signal that it should stop. Short, infrequent work is almost always the better answer at this stage.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

DP courses studied alongside a career-related study and a personal and professional skills core. Offered by far fewer schools, which makes both school places and tutoring coverage narrower again than for the Diploma.

A family asking about the Career-related Programme in Abu Dhabi usually has one specific school in mind. Confirm which DP courses sit inside that school's programme before looking for a tutor, because the subject mix differs between strands and a tutor has to be matched to the actual DP course rather than to the programme name.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below is ordered by how hard the specialist is to find rather than by faculty, because that is the information a searching parent actually needs.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Higher Level

HL

Proof by induction, complex numbers, Maclaurin series, differential equations and Paper 3 problem solving. The narrowest common specialism in Abu Dhabi, and the one most likely to require a tutor outside the emirate. A Standard Level tutor cannot stretch into it; the content is different in kind.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, Higher Level

HL

Chi-squared testing, the Poisson distribution, hypothesis testing and graph theory. Scarcer again than AA Higher Level in practice, because fewer teachers have taught the statistics extensions in depth. Expect a wait or a tutor based elsewhere.

Chemistry, Higher Level

HL

Energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, organic mechanisms and the individual investigation. Demand peaks sharply in investigation season, when every school in the city needs the same small group of people during the same six weeks.

Physics, Higher Level

HL

Fields, circular motion, thermodynamics and the individual investigation, where uncertainty handling and graph treatment carry marks students rarely practise. Another seasonal pinch point around investigation deadlines.

Biology, Higher Level

HL

A content-heavy course where command terms decide a large share of marks. Coverage is better than in chemistry and physics, partly because more teachers have taught it and partly because demand is spread more evenly through the year.

Economics

HL and SL

Internal assessment commentaries built on published news articles, with diagram marks routinely lost to missing labels. Commentary coaching is a specific skill and the people who have marked them are a smaller group than the people who have taught the course.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Standard Level

SL

The broadest pool of the four mathematics combinations, with reasonable local coverage. A sensible place to accept a nearby arrangement if proximity matters to your household for other reasons.

Business Management

HL and SL

Good coverage at both levels. The common failure is description where analysis and evaluation were required, which is a writing problem and responds well to feedback on the student's own work rather than to more content.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Broad coverage, with oral components fixed in the school calendar. The usual waste of hours is reading more texts rather than practising timed analysis of texts already studied, which any competent tutor should redirect.

Psychology

HL and SL

Reasonable coverage, with marks most often lost in the methodology and ethics sections of the internal assessment rather than in content. Quick to fix with a tutor who has marked them before.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

DP core

Seasonal rather than scarce. Demand concentrates around the school's interim deadlines, and support is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts only. Nothing may be written for a student.

Arabic and Islamic Education alongside the Diploma

Mandatory subjects

Required in private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate class organisation for Arab and non-Arab students and specified languages of instruction. Frequently left out of a family's tutoring plan and then urgent.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, all live, one-to-one and online, and each one exists partly to work around a scarcity problem rather than in spite of it.

Matched weekly sessions with a named specialist

A fixed slot with a tutor who has taught that exact course and level. Ninety minutes at Higher Level, sixty at Standard. Where the match requires a tutor outside the UAE, that is stated before booking and the slot is set on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Tutor named and their course experience stated
  • Location disclosed before any payment
  • Session recorded for replay before homework
  • Replacement offered if the match does not work

Short, frequent sessions while a slot clears

Where the preferred specialist is booked, thirty or forty-five minute sessions at higher frequency with an available qualified tutor keep momentum without committing to a long arrangement. It is explicitly a holding pattern and is described as one.

  • Shorter sessions, more often, same course
  • Reviewed as soon as the preferred slot opens
  • No long commitment taken during the wait
  • Error log carried over to the permanent tutor

Seasonal internal assessment blocks

Booked four to six weeks before the school's own draft deadline, because that is when the specialists are busiest and the work is most useful. Narrowing the question, checking the level, and criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft. Nothing is written or calculated for the student.

  • Booked ahead of the school's deadline, not after it
  • Scoped to a question the student can finish
  • Feedback on the student's own text only
  • Ends when the draft goes to the school

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Madinat Zayed

01

The honest answer to the question in the search box

  • If a person in the room is the requirement, we are not the provider
  • Removing distance is what makes course-level matching possible
  • Specialists still run out before mocks and deadlines
  • The useful question is who has taught this, not who is nearby

Direct response first: an IB home tutor in Madinat Zayed, through IB Gram, means a Diploma specialist matched to your child's exact course and level, teaching one-to-one over live video at an Abu Dhabi-friendly hour, with a free trial lesson first. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. If a tutor physically in your home is the requirement, we are not the provider, and it is better to know that now.

The reason the format exists is the scarcity described above. If the pool of adults who have taught Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level in Abu Dhabi is small, and the subset willing to drive to Madinat Zayed on a weekday evening is smaller, then insisting on proximity is choosing from almost nobody. Removing distance from the selection is not a sales device; it is the only way to make course-level matching possible in a market this size.

It is worth saying what this does not solve. It does not make specialists infinite. Higher Level mathematics and science tutors fill up before mock windows and internal assessment deadlines, when demand across the city peaks in the same six weeks. It does not substitute for school teaching, and it does not supply motivation a student does not have. A provider claiming otherwise is making promises the market cannot keep.

What it does do is change the question a family is asking from who is nearby to who has taught this. The rest of this page is about how to answer that second question properly: how to test a tutor, how to verify them, what to do when none is free, and what honest disclosure looks like when the tutor turns out to be based somewhere else.

02

Why the specialist pool is thin in Abu Dhabi, with the arithmetic

The Diploma is a minority provision in Abu Dhabi. Most private schools follow British, Indian or American curricula, and the schools offering the Diploma run one cohort per course per year. At Higher Level those cohorts are frequently small. That immediately bounds the number of people in the emirate who have taught a particular Higher Level course to a recent syllabus.

Three further constraints cut into that number. Most of those teachers are in full-time employment and have limited evening capacity. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff are reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, so the nearest qualified person is often the one person who may not teach your child. And demand for the remainder peaks simultaneously, because every school's internal deadlines fall within a few weeks of each other.

Put those together and the practical position is clear. For a named Higher Level course in a specific six-week window, the available local pool can be zero. That is not a failure of any particular agency; it is the shape of the market. What distinguishes providers is whether they tell you this before taking a payment or after.

The honest implication for a Madinat Zayed family is to plan earlier than feels necessary. Booking internal assessment support four to six weeks before the school's draft deadline costs the same as booking it two weeks before and is far more likely to get the right person. The families who struggle most are not the ones with the hardest problems; they are the ones who started looking last.

Five questions that test whether a tutor knows the syllabus

A parent does not need subject expertise to test a tutor. They need five questions whose answers are either specific or evasive, and the difference is audible within ten minutes. Ask them before paying, on a call or in the free trial lesson, and listen for whether the answer contains the syllabus or only enthusiasm.

The questions are these. First: which exact course and level have you taught, and in which years. A specialist names the course and the level without being prompted; a generalist says mathematics or science. Second: what is the weighting of each component in this course. A specialist knows the paper percentages and the internal assessment share; a generalist estimates. Third: name the assessment criteria for the internal assessment in this subject and what each is worth. A specialist can list them; a generalist describes the task instead.

Fourth: where do students in this course most often lose marks, and what do you do about it. A specialist gives two or three diagnosable failures and the drill for each; a generalist talks about confidence and practice. Fifth: what would make you tell us to stop. A specialist has an answer, usually involving a measurable change in an error log; a provider selling hours changes the subject.

Run those five on any provider, including us. They are also a reasonable test of this page: if the sections above and below do not contain that level of specificity about Diploma assessment, the page is marketing. A family that asks these questions once will never again mistake a confident tutor for a qualified one, which is worth more than any single lesson.

Verifying a tutor in the UAE: permit, status and the claims that cannot be true

Testing competence is one thing; verifying legitimacy is another, and it is quicker. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

MoHRE's own service page for it is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, listing no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted at you is unverified; one figure circulating in this market could not be confirmed and should not be repeated.

Then there are claims that cannot be true of a tutor at all. Nobody is a KHDA-approved or ADEK-approved tutor, because those bodies license and inspect schools rather than approving individuals. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific thing with a number attached.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no UAE office. Nor can any tutor be described as an IB or Cambridge examiner without evidence of current examiner status, and examiner status should never be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content. A provider making any of these claims has told you how much of the rest to believe.

What happens when nobody is free, set out as a ladder

Most providers answer this question with silence, which is why it is worth answering explicitly. When no specialist for a course and level is available, there are four options and a fifth that is sometimes correct, and a family should be offered all of them in writing rather than having one chosen for them.

Option one: a different qualified tutor on the same course at a different time. This works when the constraint is the slot rather than the specialism, and it is the most common resolution. Option two: a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same IB course, working to Gulf Standard Time, disclosed before booking. The syllabus is identical wherever the tutor sits; the time zone is a scheduling fact with a clear answer, and concealing it is the actual problem rather than the arrangement itself.

Option three: shorter sessions at higher frequency with an available qualified tutor while the preferred slot clears, described openly as a holding pattern with the error log carried across when the permanent tutor takes over. Option four: a named wait with a date, so a family can plan around it instead of calling weekly. Option five, which providers rarely offer: wait and do nothing paid for now. In DP1 term one that is frequently the right advice, and a provider who never gives it is not advising.

The reason to publish this ladder is that it makes a promise checkable. If you contact us about AI Higher Level in internal assessment season and the answer is an immediate confident yes with no mention of location or wait, something has gone wrong with our own process and you should ask which rung of this ladder you are actually on.

The tutor who is not in the UAE: what changes and what does not

Families are entitled to care where a tutor sits, and entitled to be told. Several ranking sites in this market route UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers without mentioning it, and one shows a Dubai footer address on an Abu Dhabi page. The problem in each case is the concealment rather than the geography, and the fix is disclosure before booking.

What does not change when a tutor is based elsewhere: the IB syllabus, the assessment criteria, the paper structures, the command terms, the internal assessment requirements and the mark schemes. These are set by the IB and are identical in every country. A tutor who has taught Chemistry at Higher Level has taught the same course your child is taking, regardless of which city they were in when they taught it.

What does change: the time zone, and therefore the slots available. A tutor several hours behind Gulf Standard Time cannot teach at 4pm your time without it being early morning theirs, which is fine for some tutors and not others. Local context also changes: a tutor outside the UAE will not know your school's internal calendar, the ADEK inspection position or the Arabic and Islamic Education requirements sitting on the timetable, so those have to be supplied rather than assumed.

Our practice is to state the tutor's location in the match, before any payment, and to set the slot on Gulf Standard Time. If a family would rather wait for a UAE-based specialist, that is a legitimate preference and we will give the expected wait instead. What we will not do is take the booking and let the time-zone conversation happen in week two.

What scarcity does to price, and what it should not do

Scarcity raises prices, and in tutoring it raises them most at exactly the moment a family is least able to judge. The published bands, read in October 2026, run as follows: budget online tuition at AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350; IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270; and premium named or examiner-led tuition at AED 500 to 650 and above, BartyED publishing AED 650.

A Higher Level specialist in investigation season sits at the upper end of those bands for a straightforward reason: there are few of them and everybody wants them in the same six weeks. That is legitimate pricing. What is not legitimate is a premium charged for scarcity the provider has manufactured by not telling you that a cheaper, equally qualified tutor is free next week, or by implying a shortage that does not exist for the course your child actually takes.

The protection against both is the diagnosis. If the first lesson establishes that your child's problem is uncertainty treatment in a physics graph and the Exploration being three weeks late, you now know what you are buying and roughly how long it takes. A rate of AED 270 an hour for six sessions of precisely that is a defensible purchase. The same rate for an open-ended arrangement with no diagnosis is not, whatever the tutor's credentials.

Every figure here is a market rate from a named published source rather than an IB Gram price; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson, when the course, level and session length are known. And the other side of honest pricing is honest finishing: a provider that tells you when the work is done forgoes revenue, which is precisely why it is the signal worth looking for.

The one thing no specialist may do, however scarce they are

  • A tutor teaches, explains and gives feedback on the student's own work
  • No part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay is produced here
  • The supervisor signs to authenticity, so the exposure falls on the student
  • Board materials are cited and linked, never redistributed

Scarcity creates pressure, and pressure is where academic honesty gets compromised. A family three weeks from an internal assessment deadline with no specialist available is exactly the family most likely to be offered something they should refuse. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright, and the price is lower than a block of legitimate coaching.

The boundary is set by IB rules rather than by preference. A tutor may discuss and narrow a research question, explain a technique the student then applies, check that the work sits at the level of the course, give criterion-level feedback on a draft the student wrote, and help build a schedule that finishes before the school's deadline. A tutor may not produce any part of it, supply calculations, rewrite text or edit a piece to completion.

The consequence of crossing it falls on the student rather than the provider. The supervisor signs to the authenticity of the student's work, so submitting purchased or ghost-written material puts the student's own declaration in question and can lead to a malpractice finding affecting the whole Diploma rather than one subject. No deadline is worth that exposure, and a provider that offers it when a family is desperate has identified the moment to exploit rather than the moment to help.

We also do not supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. They are published by the IB and the examination boards and should be reached there or through the school; reproducing them is a copyright matter. What a tutor adds is teaching a student to use them, which is the part that keeps working after the session ends.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Madinat Zayed

These notes describe the search radius around Madinat Zayed rather than the neighbourhoods themselves, because the question on this page is where a specialist might actually be.

Madinat Zayed

Central island district near Al Markaziyah with dense apartment housing and quick access to the main school corridor. A 4pm start is usually workable, and a specialist found here would be convenient; the difficulty is that the specialist is rarely here.

Al Markaziyah

Immediately adjacent, sharing the same catchments and travel times. Widening a search from Madinat Zayed to Al Markaziyah adds almost nothing to the available pool, because it is effectively the same pool.

Al Danah

Another immediate neighbour. The practical lesson from these three districts together is that a radius search in central Abu Dhabi reaches saturation fast: ten more minutes of driving adds very few new people.

Khalidiya

West along the corniche, with established schools nearby. Adds some pool depth for general subjects and very little for Higher Level Diploma courses, which is the pattern across the whole island.

Al Bateen

Villa communities towards the marina. Longer journeys, later session starts, and no meaningful gain in specialist availability for a Diploma student.

Al Mushrif and Al Rawdah

Inland districts with high school density. The best place on the island to find a general subject tutor and still a thin market for a named Higher Level course.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Mainland clusters with several IB schools, so a larger concentration of teachers who have actually taught Diploma courses. Also a long drive from Madinat Zayed at five in the afternoon.

Saadiyat Island

Larger Diploma cohorts and more Higher Level provision. The highest density of relevant teachers in the emirate and the least practical to reach for a weekday evening in-home session.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Madinat Zayed

Central island schools near Madinat Zayed

This catchment is dense with schools and relatively light on Diploma provision, which is the structural reason a Madinat Zayed family searching for a Higher Level specialist is searching a small pool. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the level and the deadline

The exact Diploma course and level, the school, and the nearest dated event. With those three we can say immediately whether a specialist is likely to be free or whether this is a wait, which is more useful than a sales call.

  2. 02

We tell you what is available, including nothing

If a UAE-based specialist is free, you get the name and their course experience. If not, you get the fallback ladder in writing with the tutor's location stated, or the honest advice to wait where there is no urgent deadline.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson used to diagnose

One full lesson with the matched tutor, no card required, no hours bought first. It should produce a named list of where marks are going and an estimate of how many sessions the work needs, including when that number is small.

Run the five questions on the tutor

Ask which course and level they have taught, the component weightings, the internal assessment criteria and marks, where students lose marks, and what would make them tell you to stop. Specific answers to all five mean you have the right person.

Review against the log and finish

After six to eight weeks the error log is compared with where it started. When the logged failures have gone, the recommendation is fewer sessions or none, and the slot is released to the next family waiting for that specialist.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Scarcity stated rather than hidden

Higher Level cohorts in Abu Dhabi are small, most qualified teachers are employed full-time, and ethics rules bar the nearest one from teaching your child. Publishing that arithmetic is more useful than implying unlimited availability.

A fallback ladder you can hold us to

Five options in a stated order, including waiting and buying nothing. If you are given an immediate yes in peak season with no mention of location or wait, you can ask which rung you are on.

Tutor location disclosed before payment

The IB syllabus is identical wherever a tutor sits; the time zone is not. We state the location in the match rather than letting the conversation happen in week two, which is what several sites in this market do.

Five questions that work on any provider

Including us. A parent who asks about course history, weightings, internal assessment criteria, common mark losses and when to stop will never again mistake confidence for competence.

Claims that cannot be true, named

Nobody is a regulator-approved tutor. We hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no UAE office, and we say which specific permits do exist and who holds them.

The honesty line holds under deadline pressure

A family three weeks from a draft deadline is the one most likely to be offered produced coursework. We do not supply it at any price, because the malpractice exposure falls on the student and can reach the whole Diploma.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Madinat Zayed: your questions answered

Is there anybody in central Abu Dhabi who has actually taught my child's Higher Level course?+

Possibly, and fewer than you would expect. Diploma provision in Abu Dhabi sits in a limited number of schools, Higher Level cohorts are often small, most qualified teachers are employed full-time with limited evening capacity, and professional-ethics rules are reported to bar them from paid tutoring of students at their own school. For a named Higher Level course in a six-week peak window the available local pool can be zero. That is the shape of the market rather than any agency's failure.

How can I tell whether a tutor really knows the Diploma course?+

Ask five questions. Which exact course and level have you taught, and when. What is each component worth. Name the internal assessment criteria and their marks. Where do students in this course lose marks, and what do you do about it. And what would make you tell us to stop. A specialist answers all five specifically; a generalist talks about confidence and practice. The difference is audible in about ten minutes and requires no subject knowledge from you.

Could we pay the teacher who already teaches the class instead?+

Because it is barred. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff are reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document. The practical effect is that the nearest qualified person is often the one who may not teach your child, which is part of why the local pool is so thin.

What do you do if no specialist is free for our subject?+

You get the options in writing rather than a substitute chosen quietly: a different qualified tutor on the same course at another time; a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course on Gulf Standard Time, disclosed before booking; shorter and more frequent sessions with an available tutor as a stated holding pattern; a named wait with a date; or the advice to wait and buy nothing yet. The last is often right in DP1 term one, when nothing is urgent.

Does it matter if the tutor is not based in the UAE?+

It matters for scheduling and local context, and not at all for the syllabus. The IB sets the courses, criteria, paper structures and mark schemes identically everywhere, so a tutor who has taught Chemistry at Higher Level has taught your child's course. What changes is the time zone, which bounds the available slots, and local knowledge of your school's internal calendar and the mandatory UAE subjects. Those have to be supplied rather than assumed, and the location should be stated before you pay.

When is the worst time to start looking for a Diploma specialist?+

Two weeks before an internal assessment draft deadline, or in the fortnight before a mock window. Demand across the city peaks in the same few weeks because schools set their internal deadlines independently but within a similar period, so the same small group of specialists is wanted everywhere at once. Booking four to six weeks earlier costs the same and is far more likely to secure the right person. The families who struggle most are usually the ones who started last.

Why would a tutoring company admit it might not have anybody available?+

Because the alternative is a worse outcome in week three. A family that pays for an advertised specialist and discovers the tutor is learning the course alongside the student has lost the money and the weeks, which is a more expensive failure than a disclosed wait. Publishing a fallback ladder also makes the promise checkable: if you are given an immediate confident yes in peak season with no mention of location or wait, you can ask which option you are actually on.

Do private tutors in Abu Dhabi need a permit, and what does it cost?+

They need the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Since it costs nothing, there is no innocent reason for a working tutor not to hold one, and tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Can a tutor be described as KHDA approved or ADEK approved?+

No. Those bodies license and inspect schools rather than approving individual tutors. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; KHDA does the equivalent in Dubai. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific permit with initial approval, a six-month completion window and annual renewal. If a provider uses approval language, ask for the permit number and see what arrives.

What should I think when a site advertises a satisfaction percentage?+

Ask for the sample size, the date and the method, and treat the absence of all three as your answer. Pages in this market publish satisfaction figures and average tutor scores with nothing behind them, and some show star ratings that differ between the visible page and the markup behind it. A number without a basis is a marketing device. A rate band with a named published source and a date, which is what the figures on this page are, is something you can go and check yourself.

Our internal assessment deadline is in three weeks and nobody is available. What now?+

The honest options are narrower than the usual ones. A short block with an available qualified tutor in the same subject, aimed at finishing what the student already has rather than reshaping the question. Help building a schedule that gets the draft submitted on time. And nothing else: no part of the work may be produced for the student, and a provider offering to supply a finished internal assessment is creating a malpractice exposure that can reach the whole Diploma rather than one subject grade.

How many sessions does Higher Level support usually take?+

It depends on whether the problem is a habit or a hole. Habits such as uncertainty treatment, missing method marks or incomplete graph labelling take two or three sessions each. Genuine content gaps at Higher Level take a term of weekly work, because the material is new rather than mislearnt. The diagnosis in the first lesson should tell you which one you have, and a tutor who cannot distinguish the two after a lesson with a marked paper has not diagnosed anything.

Is Standard Level easier to find a tutor for than Higher Level?+

Considerably. Standard Level mathematics, Business Management and English have reasonable coverage in Abu Dhabi, and a local arrangement is genuinely achievable for them. Higher Level sciences and both Higher Level mathematics courses are the narrow specialisms, and Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is the narrowest of all because fewer teachers have taught the statistics extensions in depth. If your need is Standard Level, you have more options than this page's tone implies.

What is the single most useful thing we can send with an enquiry?+

The exact course and level, the school, the nearest dated deadline, and a photograph of a recent marked piece of work. Those four let us say immediately whether a specialist is likely to be free or whether this is a wait, and they let the tutor arrive at the first lesson already knowing what to test. An enquiry that says help with IB science produces a sales conversation; one with those four items produces an answer.

If you are looking for an IB home tutor in Madinat Zayed, the first thing worth establishing is whether a specialist for your child's exact course and level is available at all. Send the course, the level, the school and the nearest deadline, and you will get a straight answer: a named tutor with their course history and location, an expected wait, or the advice to wait and buy nothing yet.
