IGCSE Home Tutor in Madinat Zayed

Behind most searches for an IGCSE home tutor in Madinat Zayed sits a worry a parent cannot easily test: does this person know the board my child is actually sitting? IGCSE tutor is a description rather than a credential, because Cambridge and Pearson examine the same subjects through different papers. This page shows how to test for it in four questions and what we do when the right specialist is not free. Tuition runs one-to-one over live video.

  • Matched to the board and syllabus code, stated in the match
  • Four questions that test board knowledge in ten minutes
  • Availability and tutor location disclosed before payment
  • Free trial lesson, no card required, used as a diagnosis

IB & IGCSE in Madinat Zayed

IGCSE tutor is a description, not a qualification

Madinat Zayed sits in central Abu Dhabi, close to Al Markaziyah and Al Danah, with the island's school network a short drive away. Finding somebody who advertises as an IGCSE tutor nearby takes minutes. Establishing whether that person has taught the board your child is entered for takes a conversation most families do not know how to have, and it is the conversation that decides whether the money produces marks.

The reason is that IGCSE is not one examination. Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE cover overlapping content through different papers, with different tier names, different grade scales and different arrangements for science practical skills. Cambridge reports A* to G and splits several subjects into Core and Extended. Pearson reports 9 to 1 and splits mathematics into Foundation and Higher. Within Cambridge there are also separate syllabuses for the same subject, with Mathematics 0580 and International Mathematics 0607 running different paper structures.

That means a tutor who has spent five years on Cambridge 0580 may be genuinely unfamiliar with Pearson 4MA1 question conventions, and a tutor who has taught Pearson science may not have seen a Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper. Neither is a bad tutor. Both would be the wrong match for half the students in this catchment, and nothing on a profile page tells a parent which half they are looking at. The profile will say experienced IGCSE tutor, which is true in both cases and useful in neither, and a parent has no way to tell from the outside which board sits behind the claim.

Supply makes it harder. Abu Dhabi has many British-curriculum students and a finite number of adults who have taught any given syllabus recently, most of them in full-time employment with limited evening capacity, and professional-ethics rules are reported to bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school. The nearest advertised IGCSE tutor is therefore often the one who has never taught your child's code, and the one who has may be across the city or outside the emirate. None of that is visible from a listing, and it is why a parent is better served by a question than by a map. A single email to the school and ten minutes of questions to a tutor settle more than any amount of comparing profiles.

IB Gram deals with this by matching on the code and stating it, and by teaching one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time so that distance does not restrict the choice. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Where no specialist for a code is free, you are told, given a wait, and offered written alternatives rather than matched to whoever is available with the right-sounding job title.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three routes matter for a Madinat Zayed family at this stage, and each sets a different requirement for a tutor's board knowledge.

Cambridge IGCSE

Terminal written papers with Core and Extended tiers in several subjects, A* to G grading, and science assessed through either an alternative-to-practical paper or a practical test depending on what the centre enters. Cambridge has revised assessment models including the balance of calculator and non-calculator papers, so the structure must be read at source for the series entered.

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series; the February and March series is offered to India only, so a Madinat Zayed candidate sits June with November as the resit route. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes such as 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and 4EA1, reported on the 9 to 1 scale, with mathematics tiered into Foundation, capped at grade 5, and Higher, running 9 down to 4 with a grade 3 safety net. Science practical skills are assessed inside the written papers in most routes rather than through a separate practical component.

Pearson runs May and June and again November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Provisional timetables are published ahead of each series and later revised, so plan from the live official version.

AS/AAges 16-19

AS and A-Level, and the Diploma alternative

The two post-16 routes an IGCSE student moves into. A-Levels narrow to three or four subjects examined terminally; the IB Diploma takes six subjects with internal assessments and a 45-point total. The IGCSE grade and tier can close doors into either, which is why tier entry deserves attention in Year 10.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, plus five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. One ranking competitor states six subjects are required; the sourced figure is five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects below are listed with the board distinction that matters for each, because that distinction is what a tutor either knows or does not.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 and 0607; Pearson 4MA1

Three codes, three paper structures. 0607 carries a graphics-calculator expectation and a different component mix from 0580; 4MA1 uses the 9 to 1 scale with Foundation capped at grade 5. A tutor should know which one your child sits before the first session, and which past papers follow from it.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical paper or practical test; Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers. A tutor who has only taught one board may never have marked the other's experimental component, which is where a meaningful share of marks sits.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Similar content, different question conventions and different treatment of practical skills. Mole calculations and organic pathways dominate requests in this catchment, and qualitative analysis answers lose marks when the observation is omitted and only the conclusion is given.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Content-heavy in both boards, with command terms deciding a large share of marks. The useful board-specific knowledge is how each one phrases extended-response questions and what its mark schemes reward in a six-mark answer.

English First Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Summary writing, directed writing and reading comprehension, with coursework in some Cambridge routes. The examined skill is timed analysis rather than quantity of reading, and summary tasks lose marks when students quote instead of condensing.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A separate syllabus from First Language English, with 0511 carrying a speaking component. A student entered for this is assessed against different criteria, so preparing them as a first-language candidate wastes the hours entirely. Confirm the code before buying anything.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455; Pearson equivalents

Case-study papers where marks sit in application to the given business or economy rather than recited theory. Economics diagrams carry marks lost to missing labels, and evaluation questions need a judgement rather than two balanced paragraphs.

Geography

Cambridge 0460; Pearson 4GE1

Skills questions on maps, graphs and data interpretation are entirely practisable and routinely under-practised. Case-study detail has to be specific: named places, figures and dates earn marks that general description does not.

History

Cambridge 0470 and 0977; Pearson 4HI1

Source-based assessment where structure decides the mark. Candidates lose marks by describing a source rather than using it as evidence, and by writing narrative where an argument was required. Board-specific question stems matter here more than in most subjects.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Two different subjects frequently confused by families. One is programming and computational theory; the other is applied software skills. Confirm which your child takes before looking for a tutor, because the required expertise barely overlaps.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum

Required in private schools regardless of the international curriculum, with separate class organisation for Arab and non-Arab students and specified languages of instruction. These sit on the timetable all year and are regularly the subjects a family plans around last.

Examination technique, board-specific

All subjects

Reading the right board's mark scheme, recognising its command stems, and knowing how it allocates method and accuracy marks. This is the part a tutor cannot improvise, and it is the clearest practical difference between a board specialist and a competent generalist.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, all live, one-to-one and online, each designed around the board question rather than around a timetable preference.

Code-matched weekly sessions

A weekly slot with a tutor who has taught your child's exact syllabus code and tier, working from that board's past papers and mark schemes. The match states which codes the tutor has taught, so the claim is checkable rather than implied.

  • Tutor's board and code history stated in the match
  • Past papers used are the right board's only
  • Recording available for replay before the next problem set
  • Replacement offered if the match does not hold up

Board-diagnostic session

A single session for families who do not yet know which board or tier their child is on, or who suspect the revision materials at home are the wrong ones. The tutor works short extracts from each board's papers and reports which conventions the student recognises.

  • Establishes which board's conventions the student knows
  • Flags where the wrong past papers have been used
  • Written summary to take to the school for confirmation
  • One session, no commitment

Short pre-series technique block

Four to six sessions before the June or November series, working whole papers from the correct board under timing and marking them together. Narrow by design: the aim is converting near-misses into marks rather than re-covering the syllabus.

  • Whole papers from the right board, under timing
  • Marked against that board's published scheme
  • Error log by topic and by type
  • Defined end date before the series

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Madinat Zayed

01

Answering the search, and the first thing to establish

  • Get board, code, tier and practical route from the school in writing
  • Check the revision materials at home match the code
  • Ask any tutor the four board questions before paying
  • A wrong-board arrangement is invisible until it has wasted weeks

Direct answer: an IGCSE home tutor in Madinat Zayed, through IB Gram, means a subject specialist matched to your child's board and syllabus code, teaching one-to-one over live video at an Abu Dhabi-friendly hour, with a free trial lesson used as a diagnosis. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. If someone physically in the room is the requirement, that is a different purchase and worth knowing now.

The first thing to establish is not a tutor but a fact: which board, which code, which tier, and for the sciences which practical route. One email to the examinations officer and the head of department produces all four. Until a family has that, every subsequent decision is provisional, including which past papers to download and whether the revision guide already on the shelf is the right one.

It is worth being blunt about how often this goes wrong. Families buy Cambridge revision guides for Pearson students, download 0580 papers for a 0607 candidate, and prepare a second-language English student as though they were sitting the first-language syllabus. None of those errors is detectable to a parent without the code, and none of them is caught by a tutor who was never told it.

Once the code is in hand, the question becomes whether a given tutor has taught it. That is testable in four questions, set out below, and the answers are specific or evasive within a few minutes. A family that runs those four will not confuse a confident tutor with a board-experienced one again, which protects every future booking as well as this one.

02

The three-board problem, and why it is not a detail

In UAE schools three mathematics syllabuses dominate, and they are different examinations. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 tiers into Core and Extended on an A* to G scale. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 has its own paper structure and a graphics-calculator expectation. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1, tiers into Foundation and Higher on the 9 to 1 scale, with Foundation capped at grade 5 and Higher running 9 down to 4 with grade 3 available as a safety net.

In the sciences the division is just as sharp. Cambridge 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology assess experimental skills through an alternative-to-practical paper or a practical test, depending on what the centre enters. Pearson 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 assess practical skills inside the written papers. A tutor who has only ever prepared students for one of these has never marked the other, and the experimental component is worth real marks.

In English the division is between syllabuses rather than boards. Cambridge 0500 and 0990 are First Language English; 0510 and 0511 are English as a Second Language, with 0511 carrying a speaking component. These are assessed against different criteria. In computing, Cambridge 0478 Computer Science and 0417 ICT are different subjects that families regularly conflate, and the expertise required barely overlaps.

None of this makes any tutor unqualified. It makes the word IGCSE insufficient as a description. A profile that says experienced IGCSE science tutor tells a parent nothing about whether this person has marked a Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper, and that is the specific fact the family needs. The remedy is to ask for codes, which is why every tutor in our match is listed by code rather than by subject.

Four questions that establish board knowledge in ten minutes

A parent with no subject expertise can still test a tutor's board knowledge, because the answers are either concrete or they are not. Ask these four before paying anything, on a call or during the free trial lesson, and listen for whether the reply contains the examination or only reassurance.

First: which boards and syllabus codes have you taught, and in which years. A board specialist names codes without prompting. Second: how is practical work assessed in my child's board, and what does that paper ask for. A specialist describes the component precisely; a generalist talks about laboratory experience. Third: what are the tiers in this subject and what does each cap. A specialist knows whether Core or Foundation limits the grade and by how much. Fourth: show me where the marks are in a six-mark question in this board's scheme. A specialist can talk through the mark allocation; a generalist describes good writing.

There is a fifth, optional question that reveals a lot: which past papers should we be working from, and which should we stop using. A board specialist will tell you to put away the wrong-code materials on the shelf, which costs them nothing and saves the student weeks. A tutor who says all past papers are useful practice has not understood the problem this page describes.

Run these on us as well. The match we send states the tutor's codes, and the free trial lesson is where a family should spend ten of its sixty minutes on exactly these questions. A provider that resents the questions has told you something; a provider that has prepared for them has told you something better.

Who actually teaches each board in Abu Dhabi, and where the gaps are

Teacher supply follows school provision. Abu Dhabi has a large British-curriculum sector, so the overall pool of people who have taught IGCSE is reasonable, particularly for mathematics, the sciences and English. The gaps are narrower and more specific: a given code, in a given subject, during the weeks everybody wants it.

Cambridge coverage is generally better than Pearson coverage in this emirate, simply because more schools here have historically used Cambridge syllabuses, so more teachers have marked those papers. For Pearson codes the pool is thinner, and a family entered for 4MA1 or 4CH1 may need to look further than a family entered for 0580 or 0620. For Cambridge 0607 the pool is thinnest of all, because fewer schools use it.

Then there are the structural limits that apply regardless of board. Most experienced teachers are in full-time employment with limited evening capacity. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff are reported to prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. And demand peaks in the same weeks every year, before mocks and before the June series.

The practical consequence for a Madinat Zayed family is to search by code and to search early. A booking made in October for a Year 11 student is a different experience from one attempted in April. If the code is unusual or the subject narrow, expect to be offered a tutor outside the emirate, and expect that to be stated rather than discovered.

What to do when nobody is free, including the options that are not tutoring

Sometimes the right specialist is unavailable, and a good provider should say so and then name the alternatives, including the ones that make no money for anybody. There are more options here than families usually realise, and several of them are free.

The school is first. Most departments run clinics, revision sessions or drop-in help that families forget to ask about, and the teacher who marks the student's work knows the gap better than any external tutor. Second, peer study with a classmate sitting the same code: it costs nothing, and explaining a method to somebody else is one of the most efficient revision techniques available. Third, the student's own past-paper work marked against the published scheme, which is the single highest-value revision activity and requires no tutor at all once the student is shown how.

Then the paid options. A different qualified tutor on the same code at another time. A tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same board, disclosed before booking and scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. Shorter sessions at higher frequency as a stated holding pattern. A tuition centre group class, which is cheaper per hour and dilutes attention, and in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute to operate; ask about group size before agreeing. Or a named wait.

Publishing this list costs us bookings and is still correct. A family that gets a result from the school's own clinic will come back when the need is genuinely specialist, and a family sold an unsuitable tutor in a peak week will not come back at all. It is also the test of a provider: ask what we would recommend if you had no budget this term, and see whether an answer arrives.

Verifying the person before the first lesson

Competence and legitimacy are separate checks and both are quick. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

MoHRE's service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, listing no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified. Because the permit is free, a tutor without one has no cost excuse.

Beyond the permit, two claims should raise rather than lower suspicion. Nobody is an ADEK-approved or KHDA-approved tutor, because those bodies license and inspect schools rather than approving individuals. A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval, a six-month completion window and annual renewal. And no tutor should be described as a Cambridge or Pearson examiner without evidence of current status, nor should examiner status be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content.

For completeness: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and no UAE office. We also publish no satisfaction percentages or star ratings, because a statistic without a sample size, a date and a method is not evidence, and two pages in this market show review totals that contradict each other.

Cost, starting from the cheapest competent option

A family worried about board specialism is often also worried that specialism means paying the top of the market. It does not. The cheapest competent option for many needs is free: the school's own clinic, a classmate on the same code, and self-marked past papers. Where paid help is right, the sensible entry point is the qualified band rather than the premium one.

Published figures read in October 2026: budget online tuition at AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150; in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 with travel included, Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors AED 200 to 500; specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270; premium named or examiner-led tuition at AED 500 to 650 and above, BartyED publishing AED 650. Monthly packages advertised include AED 799 for eight online sessions.

For IGCSE specifically, the qualified band at AED 150 to 300 covers nearly every genuine need: board-correct past-paper marking, tier judgement, alternative-to-practical technique and the extended-response work that separates grade bands. The premium band makes sense only where a family has already identified a narrow requirement precisely, and the budget band makes sense for supervision rather than teaching.

Two notes, as elsewhere on this site. These are market rates from named published sources, not IB Gram prices; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson once the code, tier and session length are known. And paying more does not improve a wrong-board match. A premium tutor working from the wrong past papers is the most expensive version of the exact problem this page exists to prevent.

Entries, zones and the resit route, for a candidate sitting here

  • Use the timetable your school issues, in your centre's zone
  • February and March is India-only; Abu Dhabi sits June and November
  • Pearson runs May and June plus November, with published past dates
  • Make the resit decision from the component breakdown

Entries are made by the school as the examination centre, which means the school also controls tier deadlines and holds the correct timetable. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable version for each, stating that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Work from the school's version, not a search result.

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for IGCSE and O Level, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only. A candidate in Madinat Zayed therefore sits June, with November as the resit route. A great deal of online advice is written for Indian candidates, and a revision plan built on a February window belongs to a different country.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are past dates, cited so they can be checked, and Pearson publishes provisional timetables that are later revised, so plan from the live official version rather than a restatement.

The resit decision should be made from the component breakdown rather than from disappointment. Ask the examinations officer which paper and which question types lost the marks, check the actual grade requirement for the post-16 route, and then decide whether a November entry with targeted work would plausibly move it. A resit prepared the same way as the first attempt usually produces the same result.

What online delivery suits, and where it falls short

  • Correct-board paper and scheme open for both people
  • No laboratory; apparatus handling stays with the school
  • Engagement problems need shorter sessions, not longer ones
  • Run the permit check and the four board questions on anyone

For IGCSE work the online format does the main job well. The correct board's past paper and its mark scheme sit open for both people. Working is built line by line in a shared space. An apparatus diagram can be annotated live. A six-mark answer can be marked in front of the student with the allocation explained. And the recording means the student can return to the explanation on the day the homework is actually attempted.

It falls short in three specific places, and they are worth naming rather than glossing. There is no person in the room, which matters most for younger students and those who struggle to stay engaged without presence. There is no laboratory; apparatus handling belongs to the school, and no private tutor in any format substitutes for it. And it cannot supply motivation a student does not have, which is true of in-home tuition as well but is easier to disguise there.

Where engagement is the actual problem, the fix is structural rather than format-based: shorter sessions more often, with smaller checkable tasks between them, and a parent who sees the weekly target rather than a general report. That is a scheduling change and it works in either format. A provider that responds to an engagement problem by selling longer sessions has misread it.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. If you engage an independent in-home tutor in Abu Dhabi, ask for the MoHRE permit, ask the four board questions, and ask which past papers they intend to use. The three checks together take fifteen minutes and are the difference between buying teaching and buying a job title.

Dense central district near the shopping centre, with quick access to the main school corridor. Plenty of advertised tutors; the constraint is board experience rather than headcount, and that does not improve with proximity.

Al Markaziyah

Immediately adjacent and sharing the same catchments. Extending a search here adds essentially no new specialists, because the two districts draw on one pool.

Al Danah

Another neighbour with the same school network. The useful conclusion from these three together is that a radius search saturates quickly in central Abu Dhabi, so widening it by ten minutes rarely changes the answer.

Khalidiya

West along the corniche with established schools nearby. Adds depth for general subject help and little for a specific syllabus code, which is the pattern across the island.

Al Mushrif and Al Rawdah

The highest school density on the island, and therefore the best chance of finding a board-experienced tutor locally. Still a thin market for any named code in a peak week.

Al Bateen

Villa communities towards the marina with longer journeys and later session starts. No real gain in board specialists for the additional travel time.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Mainland clusters with large British-curriculum cohorts, which is where a higher concentration of board-experienced teachers actually lives. Also a long weekday drive from Madinat Zayed.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Substantial mainland community with its own school cluster. Worth including in a search by board rather than by distance, since online delivery makes the drive irrelevant anyway.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Madinat Zayed

Central island schools serving Madinat Zayed

Both boards appear across this catchment, and the same subject can be entered on different boards at neighbouring schools. That is the structural reason a parent needs the code rather than the school name when looking for a tutor. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings.

Large British-curriculum cohorts across the emirate

In bigger Year 11 groups, tier entry and science practical routes are decided at department level and communicated late. That is where most board-experienced teachers in the emirate work, and it is why the specialist your child needs may be nowhere near your district.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board, code, tier and practical route

One email to the examinations officer and the head of department produces all four. Until a family holds them, every decision is provisional, including which past papers to download and whether the revision guide on the shelf is even the right book.

  2. 02

We match on the code and say so

The match names the tutor's boards and codes with the years they taught them, so the claim is checkable rather than implied. Where no specialist for the code is free, you get the wait and the written alternatives, including the free ones.

  3. 03

    Run the four board questions

Which codes have you taught; how is practical work assessed in this board; what do the tiers cap; where are the marks in a six-mark answer. Ask them in the free trial lesson. Specific answers to all four mean the match is sound.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson used as a diagnosis

One full lesson, no card required, no hours bought first. It produces a named list of where marks are going, a view on whether the tier looks right, and an honest estimate of how many sessions the work needs.

  5. 05

    Mark, log, re-test, finish

Papers are marked against the correct board's published scheme, every lost mark classified, and the plan re-tested after six to eight weeks. When the logged failures have gone, the recommendation is to reduce or stop rather than to renew.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by code, with the codes stated

IGCSE tutor is a description rather than a credential. Every match names the boards and syllabus codes the tutor has taught, so a parent can check the claim instead of trusting a profile headline.

A four-question test you can use anywhere

Codes taught, practical assessment in that board, what the tiers cap, and where the marks sit in a six-mark answer. Ten minutes, no subject expertise required, and it works on any provider including this one.

Free options named before paid ones

The school's own clinic, a classmate on the same code and self-marked past papers are the cheapest competent help available, and we will say so. It costs us bookings and it is the right order to try things in.

Coverage stated by board, not implied

Cambridge coverage in Abu Dhabi is better than Pearson coverage, and 0607 is thinnest of all. Publishing that means a family entered for an unusual code can plan for a wait or a non-local tutor instead of discovering one.

The UAE-correct series rules

Cambridge February and March is India-only; Abu Dhabi candidates sit June and November, and the timetable to use is the school's own version for its administrative zone. Advice written for another country's candidates is worse than none.

No borrowed credentials

We hold no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, publish no satisfaction statistics, and name the specific permits that actually exist.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Madinat Zayed: your questions answered

Does it really matter which board my child's IGCSE is with?+

Yes, enough to change what revision is useful. Cambridge and Pearson examine overlapping content through different papers, with different tier names, different grade scales and different arrangements for science practical skills. A student revising from the wrong board's past papers is practising question styles they will not meet, and in the sciences may be preparing for a component that does not exist in their board. Ask the school for the syllabus code in writing before buying any materials or booking any tutor.

How do I test whether a tutor has taught my child's board?+

Four questions. Which boards and syllabus codes have you taught, and in which years. How is practical work assessed in this board, and what does that paper ask for. What do the tiers cap in this subject. And where are the marks in a six-mark question in this board's scheme. A board specialist answers all four concretely; a generalist talks about laboratory experience and good writing. The difference is clear within ten minutes and needs no subject knowledge from you.

Is Cambridge International Mathematics the same as Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics?+

No. Syllabus 0607 and syllabus 0580 are separate Cambridge syllabuses with different paper structures, and 0607 carries a graphics-calculator expectation that 0580 does not. Both tier into Core and Extended and both appear in UAE schools, which is why the code rather than the board name is the thing to confirm. A student entered for 0607 revising from 0580 papers is preparing for the wrong examination, and the materials look convincingly correct to a parent.

Which boards are easiest to find a tutor for in Abu Dhabi?+

Cambridge codes generally, because more schools in this emirate have historically used them, so more teachers have marked those papers. Pearson codes such as 4MA1 and 4CH1 have a thinner pool here, and Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is thinnest of all because fewer schools use it. If your child is on an unusual code, expect to search beyond the district and expect to be offered a tutor outside the emirate, with the location stated before you book.

What free help should we try before paying for a tutor?+

Three things. The school's own clinic or revision session, because the teacher who marks the work knows the gap better than any outsider and these are often unadvertised. Peer study with a classmate on the same code and tier, since explaining a method is among the most efficient revision available. And the student's own past papers marked strictly against the published scheme, which is the single highest-value revision activity and needs no tutor once the student has been shown how to do it.

Our revision guide turned out to be for the wrong board. How much does that cost?+

Mostly time rather than money. The content overlap between boards is substantial, so the student has not learnt anything false, but they have practised the wrong question conventions and may have skipped a component their board actually examines. The fix is to put the wrong-code materials away, download the correct board's recent papers and schemes, and spend two or three sessions on the conventions that differ. A board specialist will tell you to do this unprompted.

Can a tutor who teaches Cambridge handle a Pearson student?+

Sometimes well, sometimes not, and the honest answer depends on the subject. In mathematics the content overlap is large enough that a strong Cambridge tutor can adapt within a session or two, provided they work from Pearson papers. In the sciences the difference is structural, because the experimental component is assessed differently, so a tutor who has never seen that board's arrangement is at a real disadvantage. Ask which board's papers they intend to use, and listen to the answer.

Why is the nearest advertised tutor often the wrong one?+

Because proximity and board experience are unrelated. The adults advertising locally are the ones willing to travel to your district at the hour you want; the adults who have marked your child's board's papers are wherever they happen to live and work. On top of that, most experienced teachers are employed full-time with limited evening capacity, and professional-ethics rules are reported to bar school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which removes the nearest qualified person.

What does the free trial lesson need to establish for an IGCSE student?+

Three things, and a parent should expect all of them in writing afterwards. Which specific errors are recurring, drawn from a marked paper rather than a conversation. Whether the tier looks right on that evidence, since Core and Foundation cap the grade available. And how many sessions the work genuinely needs, which should sometimes be two or three. If the lesson produces only encouragement and a recommended package, it has not diagnosed anything worth paying for.

Do we have to use the timetable the school gives us?+

Yes, and it matters more than families expect. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable version for each, stating that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Your child's school is the centre. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables that are later revised, so work from the live official version rather than a copy.

Can my child sit the February IGCSE exams to get an early result?+

Not in the UAE. Cambridge's February and March series is offered to India only. A candidate in Abu Dhabi sits the June series, with the November series available as the resit route, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. A good deal of advice online is written for Indian candidates and quotes a February window, so check that any plan you are given matches the series your school has actually entered your child for.

Is a group class at a tuition centre a reasonable alternative?+

It can be, with two questions asked first. How many students are in the group, because attention dilutes quickly beyond a handful and the per-hour saving stops being a saving. And what the centre's permit position is: an operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval, a six-month completion window and annual renewal. For board-specific technique work, one-to-one usually beats a group; for general content coverage, a small group can work.

How early should we book for a Year 11 student?+

Term one, if the need is already visible. Demand peaks in the same weeks every year, before mock windows and before the June series, and the same board-experienced tutors are wanted across the city at once. A booking made in October is a different experience from one attempted in April, at the same rate. Starting early also means the first block can be diagnostic and unhurried rather than triage against a deadline that has already arrived.

What should I do if a tutoring company will not tell me where the tutor is based?+

Treat it as a reason to go elsewhere. The syllabus is identical wherever a tutor sits, so there is nothing to hide, and the only thing location genuinely changes is the available session times and local knowledge of your school's calendar. Several sites in this market route UAE families to non-UAE phone numbers without mentioning it, and one shows a Dubai address on an Abu Dhabi page. The concealment is the problem rather than the geography.

Send the code, then test the tutor

The two steps that make IGCSE tutoring work in this catchment are both free. Get the board, syllabus code, tier and practical route from the school in writing. Then ask any tutor the four board questions: codes taught, how practical work is assessed in that board, what the tiers cap, and where the marks sit in a six-mark answer. Send us the code and we will match a tutor whose board history is stated rather than implied, or tell you the wait honestly. The first lesson is free. Tuition runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we offer only in India.
