IGCSE Maths Tutor in Madinat Zayed

Most parents searching for an IGCSE maths tutor in Madinat Zayed are really asking one question: does anyone nearby actually know the syllabus my child sits? It is a fair question, because Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 are three different courses with different papers, different grade scales and different calculator rules. Lessons here run one-to-one over live video, and the match starts with the syllabus code on your child's exam timetable rather than with who lives closest.

IB & IGCSE in Madinat Zayed

Does anyone near Madinat Zayed actually know your child's maths syllabus?

The honest answer is that plenty of people near Madinat Zayed know mathematics, and considerably fewer know the specific syllabus your child is entered for. Those are different claims. A graduate engineer can solve every question on a Cambridge 0580 Extended paper. Whether they know that Core caps at grade C, that one paper in each tier is now sat without a calculator, or that Edexcel's 4MA1 grades on a 9-to-1 scale while Cambridge grades A* to G, is a separate matter — and it is the matter that decides whether an hour of tuition lands on the right thing.

There are five syllabuses in regular use across Abu Dhabi schools and they are not interchangeable. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 runs in Core and Extended tiers. Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 is a different course with a graphic display calculator built into its assessment and an investigation component, used by schools heading towards the IB Diploma. Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606 is a stretch course sat alongside 0580 Extended. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1, runs Foundation and Higher tiers across two calculator papers. Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 sits above it.

So the first thing worth doing costs nothing. Find your child's statement of entry, or ask the school's examinations officer, and write down the syllabus code and the tier. Parents in Madinat Zayed routinely discover at this point that the child they thought was sitting Extended is entered for Core, or that the school moved from Cambridge to Edexcel between cohorts. Either discovery changes what tuition should cover, and finding it out in Year 10 rather than in the spring of Year 11 is the difference between a plan and a rescue.

The second thing worth doing is testing a prospective tutor on that code specifically. Ask which paper in their tier is non-calculator. Ask what the grade ceiling is on Core and whether it can be lifted. Ask what happens to a Higher-tier Edexcel candidate who scores below the tier's bottom grade. A tutor who knows the syllabus answers in a sentence each; a tutor who knows maths in general gives you a reassuring paragraph without a single specific. That five-minute conversation is worth more than any rate comparison.

IB Gram delivers IGCSE maths tuition to Madinat Zayed as one-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The practical consequence for this particular question is the useful one: the pool of tutors who know 0607's investigation paper, or 4PM1's calculus content, is small in any one neighbourhood and reasonably large across a time zone. Removing the drive removes the reason to compromise on the syllabus.

LOWER SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before the IGCSE course begins, with optional Checkpoint tests that Cambridge offers in March, May and October. The mathematics here is the foundation the IGCSE assumes: negative numbers, fractions, index laws, basic algebraic manipulation and the four operations without a calculator. A Checkpoint result is diagnostic rather than certificated, and it is the cheapest early warning a family will get.

Abu Dhabi schools licensed by ADEK vary in how seriously they run Checkpoint, and some skip it entirely. For a Madinat Zayed family the useful question is not the Checkpoint score but whether the school has already streamed the year group into future Core and Extended groups. That streaming often happens in Year 9 and it quietly sets a grade ceiling two years before anyone mentions one.

Syllabus 0580, in Core and Extended tiers. Core candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 3; Extended candidates sit Paper 2 and Paper 4, each paper carrying half the grade. From the current syllabus, one paper in each tier is sat without a calculator, which is the change most families have not registered. Confirm the exact durations and components on cambridgeinternational.org, because Cambridge revises them between syllabus cycles.

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any advice built around a spring sitting does not apply in Abu Dhabi. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states plainly that the correct zone timetable must be used, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination after using the wrong version. Take dates from your school, not from a tutoring site.

Syllabus 0607, a genuinely different course from 0580 rather than a variant of it. A graphic display calculator is integral to the assessment, the content leans towards modelling and functions, and the course is structured to feed the IB Diploma. Schools in Abu Dhabi with an IB Diploma pathway often choose it deliberately. A tutor who teaches 0580 well is not automatically useful here.

This is the single most common syllabus mismatch in Abu Dhabi tuition. A Madinat Zayed family books a tutor for 'IGCSE maths', the tutor arrives with 0580 Extended material, and the student is sitting 0607 Extended with a graphic display calculator they are expected to use fluently. Nothing is dishonest about it; the booking simply never named the code. This is why the code matters more than the subject name.

Specification 4MA1, Mathematics A, in Foundation and Higher tiers. Two papers of two hours, each worth half the grade, with a calculator permitted on both. Grades run 9 to 1, with Foundation capped and Higher reaching down to a safety grade below its nominal floor. Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 sits above it for students heading to A-Level maths or an engineering pathway.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

Cambridge International AS and A Level

Where most Extended and Higher-tier candidates go next, and the reason tier choice at IGCSE is not a cosmetic decision. A-Level Mathematics assumes algebraic fluency that Core and Foundation candidates were never required to demonstrate, so the step up from a capped tier is steep. Further Mathematics assumes more again.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five. One ranking competitor states six subjects are needed; the sourced figure is five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths is rarely the only entry a Madinat Zayed family wants help with. These are the IGCSE subjects most often added, with the syllabus code and the specific place marks are lost in each.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Two papers, each half the grade, with one sat without a calculator in the current syllabus. Extended adds functions, calculus-adjacent gradient work, vectors and more demanding trigonometry. Core candidates lose most marks on multi-step problems; Extended candidates lose them on algebraic fractions and on questions requiring a proof-like argument.

International Mathematics (Cambridge 0607)

Core and Extended

A graphic display calculator is assumed throughout and there is an investigation component. Modelling, functions and data handling carry more weight than on 0580. Students lose marks by producing a correct calculator output and failing to interpret it, which is exactly the habit the IB Diploma will test later.

Mathematics A (Pearson Edexcel 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two two-hour calculator papers, graded 9 to 1. Higher tier rewards speed as much as knowledge, because the paper is long and the final questions carry the top grades. Foundation candidates most often lose marks on ratio, proportion and percentage change in unfamiliar contexts rather than on the arithmetic itself.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606) and Further Pure (4PM1)

Single tier

Stretch courses sat alongside the main entry, introducing calculus, series and more formal algebra. They are the clearest signal that a student is heading for A-Level mathematics. Marks are lost to notation and to unexplained steps, because both specifications expect working that reads like an argument.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The subject most damaged by weak maths. Rearranging formulae, handling standard form and reading logarithmic scales are mathematical skills examined through physics. Practical assessment differs by board and by school, and the alternative-to-practical paper has its own distinct technique.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Edexcel 4CH1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Mole calculations, empirical formulae and titration arithmetic are where the marks concentrate and where maths weakness shows. Organic chemistry is the other recurring wall. Students who can recite reaction conditions but cannot calculate a yield are scoring in the wrong half of the paper.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Edexcel 4BI1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

High content volume with a statistics and data-interpretation strand that catches students who chose biology to avoid numbers. Marks are recoverable in command-term discipline: describe, explain and compare each demand a different structure, and answering the wrong one wastes a correct fact.

Economics (Cambridge 0455 / Edexcel 4EC1)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy is the fastest source of recoverable marks: axes labelled, curves shifted rather than described, equilibrium identified. Data-response questions reward arithmetic on percentage change and index numbers, which returns the maths problem to a subject chosen to escape it.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510/0511)

Core and Extended

Widely sat across Abu Dhabi and frequently the subject that decides whether a student clears five passes for equivalency. The reading paper rewards precise lifting of information; the writing paper rewards register control. Both are trainable in a term, which makes it the highest-yield entry for a borderline candidate.

Arabic and Islamic Education

Mandatory alongside the curriculum

Mandatory in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate provision for Arab and non-Arab students. These subjects are not counted among the five required for British-track Ministry of Education equivalency, which surprises many families planning their entries.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are genuinely available, and the right one depends on how far into the syllabus your child is and how specific the gap has become.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

One 60 or 90-minute session a week with the same tutor, matched to the syllabus code. Working appears on a shared whiteboard line by line, past papers are annotated by both parties at once, and the session is recorded. This is the format IB Gram delivers to Madinat Zayed, and the reason is simple: the pool of tutors who know 0607 or 4PM1 specifically is far larger across a time zone than within a drive.

  • Same tutor weekly, matched to the code and tier on the statement of entry
  • Shared whiteboard so the student's working is visible as it is produced
  • Recording available afterwards for revisiting a method
  • Slots from 16:00 Gulf Standard Time, later during Ramadan

Tier-decision diagnostic block

Three or four sessions in Year 10, before the school fixes entries, to establish honestly whether Extended or Higher is reachable. The work is timed questions from the actual tier, marked against the published scheme. The output is a recommendation a family can take to the school, which is a far stronger position than arguing from a report grade.

  • Timed questions from the real tier rather than textbook exercises
  • A written recommendation on Core versus Extended or Foundation versus Higher
  • Run before the school fixes entries, not after
  • Includes what would have to change for the higher tier to be realistic

Series-focused exam push

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks ahead of a June or November sitting, built around whole past papers under timing. Costs more per month than maintenance tuition and less per mark, because the work is aimed at the paper rather than at the syllabus. Ends when the series does.

  • Whole papers under real timing, marked against the published scheme
  • Component-level tracking, so a weak paper is identified rather than a weak subject
  • Non-calculator practice scheduled separately where the tier requires it
  • A stop date, so the block does not quietly become a retainer

Small group on one shared syllabus

Two to four students on the same code and tier. The per-student rate drops and for exam-technique work on a shared paper it genuinely works. It stops working as soon as the students' gaps diverge, and keeping a group together past that point is false economy rather than a saving.

  • Same syllabus code and tier across the whole group, or it fails
  • Best for technique on one paper, not for syllabus coverage
  • Lower cost per student than one-to-one
  • Reverts to one-to-one once individual gaps separate

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Madinat Zayed

01

The five IGCSE maths syllabuses in Abu Dhabi use, and why the code decides everything

  • Cambridge 0580 — Core and Extended, one non-calculator paper per tier
  • Cambridge 0607 — graphic display calculator assumed, investigation component
  • Cambridge 0606 — additional maths, sat alongside 0580 Extended
  • Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 — Foundation and Higher, two calculator papers, graded 9 to 1
  • Pearson Edexcel 4PM1 — further pure, for A-Level and engineering pathways

A parent asking for an IGCSE maths tutor in Madinat Zayed is asking for one of five fairly different things. Cambridge 0580 is the mainstream course, tiered Core and Extended, with one non-calculator paper in each tier under the current syllabus. Cambridge 0607, International Mathematics, assumes a graphic display calculator throughout and carries an investigation element. Cambridge 0606 is a stretch paper sat alongside Extended. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 runs Foundation and Higher across two calculator papers graded 9 to 1. Further Pure 4PM1 sits above it.

The practical consequence is that the same request produces four different lesson plans. A 0580 Extended student needs non-calculator fluency drilled weekly. A 0607 student needs calculator technique plus interpretation, because the examiner marks what the output means. A 4MA1 Higher student needs pace, since the two-hour papers are long and the last questions carry the top grades. A 4PM1 student needs notation discipline. A tutor given only the words 'IGCSE maths' will default to whichever of these they know best.

Finding the code takes one message. The statement of entry lists it, and the school's examinations officer can confirm it in a line. Families in this area regularly discover that a sibling two years older sat a different board, because schools do switch between cohorts and specification codes change on the same subject name. Checking costs nothing and it is the single highest-value thing a parent can do before spending anything on tuition.

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: the ceiling nobody mentions

Tier is the decision with the longest shadow and it is usually made by the school, quietly, in Year 9 or early Year 10. On Cambridge 0580, Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3 and cannot be awarded above grade C however well they perform; Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4 and reach A*. On Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, Foundation is capped partway up the 9-to-1 scale while Higher reaches 9 and extends a grade below its nominal floor as a safety net.

This matters because a capped tier closes doors a family has not yet thought about. A-Level Mathematics, most engineering foundation routes and several UAE university programmes expect a grade that a Core or Foundation entry cannot produce. A student sitting Core and achieving the ceiling grade has done well and is still, administratively, below the threshold for the next course. Nobody says this at the point the entry is made, because at that point it is a reasonable and often correct decision.

The useful move is to test the ceiling before it is set rather than argue about it afterwards. Three or four sessions of timed Extended-tier questions, marked against the published scheme, tell you honestly whether the higher tier is reachable and what would have to change for it to be. That is a stronger case to take to a head of department than a report grade or a parent's impression. If the answer is that Core is right, a family has bought certainty rather than a year of doubt.

How to tell in five minutes whether a tutor knows the syllabus

  • Which paper in this tier is non-calculator?
  • What is the grade ceiling on this entry, and can it be changed?
  • Which topics are Extended-only, or Higher-only?
  • What would you look at first given a calculator-paper and non-calculator-paper split?
  • What will you not do — what is outside a tutor's role here?

Ask closed questions with checkable answers. Which paper in my child's tier is sat without a calculator? What is the highest grade available on this entry? How many papers are there and what is each worth? Which topics appear only on Extended? A tutor fluent in the specification answers each in a sentence. A tutor who knows mathematics generally answers with reassurance, enthusiasm and no specifics, and that difference is audible within a minute.

Then ask a diagnostic question rather than a credential question. Not 'how much experience do you have' but 'what would you look at first if my child scored well on the calculator paper and badly on the non-calculator one?' The right answer names by-hand fluency, exact values, index laws and fraction work, and proposes short weekly practice rather than more content teaching. A vague answer here is the single most reliable warning sign available to a parent.

Third, ask what they will not do. A tutor who knows the rules will tell you, unprompted, that they do not supply board syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads, because those are the awarding body's copyright and the correct route is the official site or the school. They will also say they do not produce assessed work. A tutor who offers you a folder of mark schemes on the first call is telling you something about how they operate.

Finally, ask about the series. Which window is your child entered for, and what changes between June and November? A tutor working with Abu Dhabi families knows that the February/March series is India-only, that November is the resit route here, and that the entry deadline sits months ahead of the paper. One who answers that question with a date they have read off a blog is guessing with your child's timetable, and the exams officer at the school is the only person whose dates are authoritative.

04

Where IGCSE maths marks are actually lost in Abu Dhabi cohorts

  • Algebraic fractions — where the upper grades concentrate on both boards
  • Non-calculator technique: surds, exact values, index laws by hand
  • Pace across two-hour Pearson Edexcel papers
  • Command terms: 'show that', 'write down', significant figures
  • A compressed November and December caused by competing assessment loads

Algebraic fractions are first, and they are first on both boards. Adding, simplifying and solving with algebraic fractions appears in the upper half of Extended and Higher papers, it is taught once, and it is rarely practised to fluency. A student who hesitates here loses a cluster of marks in the questions that separate the top grades, and the fix is mechanical practice rather than explanation.

Second is the non-calculator paper, which is a newer problem than most families realise. Students who have had a calculator in hand since Year 7 arrive unable to work with surds, exact trigonometric values or index laws by hand. The paper exists specifically to find that out. Rebuilding takes around eight weeks of short weekly practice and it cannot be compressed into the fortnight before a mock.

Third is pace on the Pearson Edexcel Higher papers. Two hours is a long time to maintain accuracy, and the final questions hold the top grades. Students who have only ever done exercise sets never discover that they run out of time, because exercises are untimed. Fourth is command-term carelessness: 'show that' requires working, 'write down' does not, and 'give your answer to three significant figures' is a mark.

Fifth, and specific to Abu Dhabi timetables, is a thin November and December, when mandatory UAE subject assessments compete with IGCSE coursework in the same weeks. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are required in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and the week has a fixed number of hours in it. A Madinat Zayed family who notices maths slipping in late November is usually looking at a timetable collision rather than at a sudden loss of ability, and the response is scheduling rather than panic.

05

The June and November series, counted backwards

Cambridge International runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any plan built around a spring sitting does not apply to a student in Madinat Zayed. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Those are the two windows your child's year has to be planned around.

Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers, which is the fact that catches families out. A decision taken in April about a summer sitting is usually already past the window, and a private-candidate entry is harder again because it has to go through a centre that accepts external candidates. The school's examinations officer holds the real dates. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that the correct zone timetable must be used, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses a paper after using the wrong one.

Counted backwards from a sitting, the sequence is stable even when the dates are not. The last six to eight weeks belong to whole papers under timing, marked against the published scheme. Before that sits the mock window, which is the most useful free diagnostic a family will get. Before that, the tier must be fixed and any entry change made. For reference on how far ahead results sit: the November 2026 Pearson timetable ran to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

What the Abu Dhabi market charges, starting from the cheapest end

Begin where most families begin, at the bottom. A university-student or graduate tutor working online is advertised from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik and from AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya. For a Core or Foundation candidate who needs arithmetic drilled and company while doing it, that band can be entirely adequate. What it does not reliably buy is specification knowledge — which paper is non-calculator, which topics are Extended-only, what the grade ceiling is — and on a tiered entry that knowledge is the whole game.

The next band up is where specification fluency starts. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200; TutorChase quotes AED 270; Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above. In-home visits are quoted higher again, at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors, with the difference paying for a car rather than for better teaching.

Thinking in months rather than hours makes the decision easier. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000-plus for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages seen in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' published figures, quoted with their sources so you can check them; they are not an IB Gram price list. After the IGCSE: Ministry of Education equivalency and the five-subject rule

Families in Madinat Zayed planning a UAE university route need to know what the Ministry of Education counts, because it is narrower than most people assume and one competing tutoring page states it wrongly. On the British track, students must submit proof of five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or above or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. That single clause changes entry planning for a large number of UAE-educated students, because a child with seven passes including Arabic and Islamic Education may have fewer counting subjects than the certificate suggests. One ranking competitor publishes a requirement of six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five, excluding those two. Confirm your own case against the Ministry's own channel rather than any tutoring site, including this one.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency or attestation, and no tutoring is required for it. What a tutor can do is make sure the entries that will count are the ones a student is strong in, which is a planning conversation worth having in Year 10 rather than after results. For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Mathematics required before applying.

ADEK, your school report, and the question to ask at parents' evening

  • Ask for the syllabus code and tier, in writing
  • Ask for the mock score split by paper, not a single grade
  • Ask whether the non-calculator paper is the weaker one
  • Ask when entries are finalised and whether a tier change is still possible
  • Check the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit

Private schools serving Madinat Zayed are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. That is a different authority from Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority, from the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and from the federal Ministry of Education that supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Guidance written for Dubai does not describe your child's school.

An inspection band describes a whole school rather than a department, and a strongly rated school can still be thin in Extended-tier maths in a particular year — usually because an experienced teacher left and the timetable absorbed the gap. That is the most common real reason a Madinat Zayed family starts looking, and naming it changes the request from general maths help to cover for a specific tier and board. A school report tells you less: a report grade is a prediction against a cohort, while a mock sat under real timing and marked against the published scheme tells you where the marks went.

So the question for parents' evening is not 'how is she doing in maths'. It is: which syllabus code and tier is she entered for, what was her mock score broken down by paper, and is the non-calculator paper the weaker one? Three answers, all free, and together they define what tuition should buy. On credentials, note that ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school, and private tutors need the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. IB Gram claims no regulator accreditation and holds none.

Where we tutor

Madinat Zayed and the Abu Dhabi communities it shares schools with

Madinat Zayed sits in the older central grid of Abu Dhabi island, around the Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre and the Gold Centre. These are the neighbouring communities whose schools, boards and afternoon timings overlap with it.

Al Bateen

West along the island, with a dense school corridor and a mix of Cambridge and Edexcel entries between neighbouring schools. Families here are the ones most likely to find two children on different boards in the same household.

The Corniche

Waterfront towers with the shortest school run on the island. The earliest realistic tuition slot in the emirate sits here, which matters for a Year 11 candidate also carrying a November entry.

Al Mushrif

An established villa district inland from the Corniche with several long-standing private schools. A number of them have switched board between cohorts, so the syllabus code in an older sibling's file is not a safe guide for the younger one.

Al Reem Island

Bridge-access towers where the afternoon crossing lengthens sharply after 15:30. Online sessions remove the question of whether a tutor can make a second crossing in a working afternoon.

Khalifa City

A large off-island villa community with its own cluster of international schools and a heavy Edexcel presence. A tutor serving Khalifa City and Madinat Zayed in one afternoon is serving one of them badly.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Dense mainland housing with the widest spread of curricula and budgets on this list. The AED 45 to 150 end of the maths tuition market is most visible here, and the variation in what it delivers is widest.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Low-rise waterfront and villa communities near the airport corridor. Strong school access, and a long enough drive to the central grid that cross-area in-home tutoring rarely holds across a full term.

Saadiyat Island

Several well-known international schools and a later finish than the central island. Madinat Zayed students enrolled there arrive home later and start tuition later, which pushes the realistic slot past 17:30.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Madinat Zayed

Central Abu Dhabi island — Madinat Zayed, Al Bateen, Al Mushrif and the Corniche

The island's established school corridor, 10 to 20 minutes from Madinat Zayed depending on the hour. Boards are mixed across this cluster: some schools run Cambridge IGCSE, others Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, and a few enter different subjects with different boards in the same year group. Named here as local context only, with no affiliation implied.

  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Cambridge High School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Ittihad National Private School
  • Emirates Private School
  • Al Nahda National School
  • Al Bateen Academy

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Saadiyat

The off-island corridor, where much of the emirate's newer provision sits and where Pearson Edexcel entries are common. A Madinat Zayed family enrolled here has a 25 to 40 minute afternoon drive, which is the usual reason a weekly in-home session slides later through the term.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi

Schools are named to describe the education landscape around Madinat Zayed. IB Gram is not affiliated with, endorsed by or a supplier to any school or school group named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code and tier

0580, 0607, 0606, 4MA1 or 4PM1, and whether the entry is Core, Extended, Foundation or Higher. It is on the statement of entry, and the school's examinations officer can confirm it in a line. That one detail is what separates a useful first session from a polite one, and it is the whole premise of this page.

  2. 02

Sit a free trial lesson with the matched tutor

Sixty minutes, no charge, with the tutor who would actually teach. It is a working session: questions from your child's own tier, under time, with the tutor watching the working rather than the answer. Ask them the five specification questions from this page while you are there.

  3. 03

Get the diagnosis in writing before any package

After the trial you should have a short written statement of what is weak, split by paper where possible, and what the first eight sessions will target. A provider who cannot produce that is selling hours. This is also when a rate is quoted for your child's tier and session length, against the market bands published above.

  4. 04

Fix the weekly slot around the Abu Dhabi afternoon

Slots run from 16:00 Gulf Standard Time for students finishing on the central island, with later options for those travelling back from Khalifa City, Saadiyat or Al Raha. During Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing. Same tutor, same hour each week — consistency moves a maths grade more than intensity does.

  5. 05

Re-test on a whole paper every six weeks

A full past paper under real timing, marked against the published scheme, with the component split compared to the previous one. If the non-calculator paper has not moved in twelve weeks, the plan is wrong and should change. This is also the point at which a family decides whether to continue paying, which is how it should work.

  6. 06

Decide the series and the resit route early

Whether the target is the June series or the November series changes everything about pacing, and the decision belongs with the school's examinations officer rather than with a tutor. Resit decisions are best taken in the week results arrive, not in October when the entry window has narrowed.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, not the subject name

0580 Extended, 0607 Extended and 4MA1 Higher are three different jobs. Matching starts from the syllabus code and tier on the statement of entry, because a tutor fluent in one of those specifications is not automatically useful on another, however strong their mathematics.

The tier ceiling stated plainly

Core and Foundation entries carry a grade ceiling that closes off A-Level Mathematics and several university routes. We say so before a package rather than after results, and we will run a timed diagnostic from the higher tier so the decision is made on evidence rather than on a report grade.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure here carries the provider or rate table it came from and the month it was read. Three of six competitor pages researched publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams. A number you can check beats a reassurance you cannot.

No board materials supplied, ever

Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson. We reference them and link the official site; we do not host or distribute them. A tutor offering a folder of mark schemes on the first call is telling you how they operate.

Online, stated plainly, with the reason

Lessons to Madinat Zayed run one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE — that service exists only in India. The gain is specific to this page's question: the pool who know 0607 or 4PM1 is small in one neighbourhood and large across a time zone.

No accreditation claims, because there are none

IB Gram is not approved, accredited or endorsed by ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds no UAE office or centre. The research behind this page found providers using 'KHDA-approved tutors' while holding no such permit. Naming the regulator honestly is more useful than borrowing its authority.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Madinat Zayed: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE maths syllabus my child in Madinat Zayed is entered for?+

The syllabus code is printed on the statement of entry the school issues, and the examinations officer can confirm it in one message. You are looking for 0580, 0607 or 0606 for Cambridge, or 4MA1 or 4PM1 for Pearson Edexcel, together with the tier — Core, Extended, Foundation or Higher. Do not assume it matches an older sibling's: schools switch board between cohorts and specification codes change on the same subject name. Checking costs nothing and it is the highest-value thing a parent can do before spending anything on tuition.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0580 and 0607 for my child?+

They are different courses rather than variants. 0580 is the mainstream syllabus, tiered Core and Extended, and under the current syllabus one paper in each tier is sat without a calculator. 0607, International Mathematics, assumes a graphic display calculator throughout, carries an investigation component, and leans towards modelling and functions because it is structured to feed the IB Diploma. A tutor who teaches 0580 well may be of limited use on 0607. This is the most common syllabus mismatch in Abu Dhabi tuition bookings.

Can my child move from Core to Extended, or Foundation to Higher?+

Often yes, but only before entries are finalised, and the window is earlier than families expect. The school's maths department makes the recommendation and the examinations officer holds the deadline. The strongest case you can bring is evidence: three or four sessions of timed questions from the higher tier, marked against the published scheme, which shows honestly whether the grade is reachable and what would have to change. A report grade or a parent's impression carries much less weight in that conversation than a marked paper does.

Why does the non-calculator paper matter so much now?+

Because it is newer than most parents realise and it finds a specific weakness. Under the current Cambridge 0580 syllabus, one paper in each tier is sat without a calculator, which exposes students who have had a device in hand since Year 7. Surds, exact trigonometric values, index laws and fraction arithmetic all have to be secure by hand. Rebuilding that fluency takes roughly eight weeks of short weekly practice and cannot be compressed into the fortnight before a mock. A mock split that shows a strong calculator paper and a weak non-calculator one is diagnosing this exactly.

Does my child in Abu Dhabi sit the Cambridge February/March series?+

No. Cambridge International offers the February/March series to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, with November functioning as the usual resit route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that the correct zone timetable must be used, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses a paper after using the wrong version. Take every date from your school's examinations officer rather than from a tutoring website.

How much does an IGCSE maths tutor in Madinat Zayed cost per month?+

Thinking monthly is more useful than hourly. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000-plus for specialist exam-year support. Packages seen in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' published figures with their sources named, not an IB Gram price list. We quote after a free trial, once the code and tier are known.

Is the cheapest tutor in Abu Dhabi ever the right choice?+

Sometimes, and it is worth saying so. For a Core or Foundation candidate who needs arithmetic drilled regularly and company while doing it, a graduate tutor at the AED 45 to 150 band — EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 — can be entirely adequate. What that band does not reliably buy is specification knowledge: which paper is non-calculator, which topics are Extended-only, where the grade ceiling sits. On a tiered entry, that knowledge is most of the value, which is why the band above it exists.

Which IGCSE maths topics do Abu Dhabi students lose the most marks on?+

Algebraic fractions first, on both boards — they sit in the upper half of Extended and Higher papers, are taught once and rarely practised to fluency. Then non-calculator technique: surds, exact values and index laws by hand. Then pace, particularly on Pearson Edexcel's two-hour Higher papers, where the final questions hold the top grades and are frequently unreached. Then command-term carelessness: 'show that' requires working, significant-figure instructions carry marks. All four respond faster to short weekly practice than to more content teaching.

Do you cover both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel maths for Abu Dhabi schools?+

Yes, and we match to one specification rather than claiming general coverage. Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607, Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 at Foundation and Higher, and Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1. Schools around Madinat Zayed use a mix, and a few enter different subjects with different boards in the same year group, so the code on the statement of entry decides the match. We do not supply any board's syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes.

Which schools near Madinat Zayed sit IGCSE maths?+

The central island corridor within a short drive includes schools such as Abu Dhabi International School, Cambridge High School Abu Dhabi, Al Ittihad National Private School and Emirates Private School; the off-island corridor adds Al Yasmina Academy, GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi, Raha International School and Brighton College Abu Dhabi. Boards are mixed across those schools and provision changes between intakes, so confirm the current position directly with the school. All are licensed and inspected by ADEK. IB Gram has no affiliation with any school named here.

Which IGCSE grades will the Ministry of Education actually count for my child?+

On the British track the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five, which catches out families whose child has seven passes including both. One ranking competitor publishes six as the requirement; the sourced figure is five. Verify your own case with the Ministry and your emirate's attestation authority, not with a tutoring site.

Can a tutor help with IGCSE maths coursework or an investigation?+

A tutor can teach the mathematics an investigation needs, question the method, and give feedback on work the student has already produced. A tutor cannot write it, redraft it to completion, or supply mathematics for the student to transcribe as their own. The Cambridge 0607 investigation component is assessed work and the same boundary applies. The simple home test: if your child cannot explain each step unprompted, the work is not theirs and the mark is not safe. We also do not distribute board mark schemes or past papers.

Can sessions fit around school hours, prayer times and Ramadan?+

Yes, and the online format is what makes it practical rather than merely tolerable. Slots run from 16:00 Gulf Standard Time for students finishing on the central island, with later options for those travelling from Khalifa City, Saadiyat or Al Raha. Sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan, and a family travelling between terms keeps the same tutor on the same clock. A tutor driving across the island at half past four cannot offer that, because their schedule is set by traffic rather than by your child's day.

My child has eight weeks until the series — is it too late to start?+

Not too late, but the plan has to change shape. Eight weeks is enough for whole papers under timing, command-term discipline, and targeted work on two or three recurring topics — algebraic fractions, ratio in unfamiliar contexts, or non-calculator fluency if the mock split points there. It is not enough to cover a syllabus, and any provider promising that is selling you a fiction. Start with one timed paper marked against the published scheme, and let the component breakdown decide where the remaining hours go.

What happens if no tutor is free for my child's exact syllabus and tier?+

We say so instead of filling the slot. Cambridge 0607 Extended and Pearson Edexcel 4PM1 are the narrowest pools on this page, and in a busy term the honest answer is sometimes a two to three week wait for the right match, or an interim tutor for general algebra while the specialist slot opens. Neither is hidden and neither is charged as though it were the match you asked for. None of the competitor pages researched for this page discloses a coverage limit at all.

Send the code, then judge the tutor

If you are looking for an IGCSE maths tutor in Madinat Zayed, the first move is not comparing rates. It is finding the syllabus code and tier on your child's statement of entry, because 0580 Extended, 0607 Extended and 4MA1 Higher are three different jobs and a tutor fluent in one is not automatically useful on another. Send us that code and we will match to it, then put the tutor in front of you for a free trial lesson so you can ask the specification questions yourself. Lessons run one-to-one over live video from 16:00 Gulf Standard Time. If we do not have the right specialist free, we will tell you that instead of offering you the nearest thing.
