IB DP Hindi B Tutor in Abu Dhabi

An IB DP Hindi B tutor in Abu Dhabi is usually hired for one reason: a child who speaks Hindi fluently at home is losing marks on paper. Hindi B is examined in four parts, and three of them reward written register, text-type convention and conceptual control rather than conversation. Sessions run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time so a 4pm school finish in Khalifa City or Al Reem Island still leaves room for a 6pm lesson.

  • Paper 1, Paper 2 and the individual oral coached as separate skills
  • Marking against the Language B criteria, not general fluency
  • Sessions in Gulf Standard Time, after the Abu Dhabi school run

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Hindi B is a language exam, not a language test

Most Abu Dhabi families who look for Hindi B help are not worried about whether their child can speak Hindi. They are worried about a 4 or a 5 appearing on a report for a subject the child uses at the dinner table every evening. That gap is the whole subject in miniature. Hindi B does not measure how well a student converses. It measures whether they can produce a specified text type, on a prescribed theme, in a register the task demands, and whether they can show conceptual understanding of audience, context, purpose and meaning while doing it.

The four assessed components pull in different directions. Paper 1 asks for one piece of writing chosen from three options, each tied to a named text type: a blog entry, a formal letter, a speech, a set of guidelines, a report, a diary extract. A student who writes beautifully fluent Hindi and ignores the conventions of the chosen text type loses marks under the message criterion no matter how natural the language sounds. Paper 2 splits into listening and reading, both answered in Hindi, both sitting at the same weighting as the writing paper combined. The individual oral is recorded at school and marked internally before moderation.

Script is the second recurring surprise. Spoken Hindi at home is frequently a mixed register, and many students in Abu Dhabi read Devanagari slowly because their day runs in English at school and in English or Arabic outside it. Paper 1 is handwritten. Paper 2 reading passages are set in Devanagari with no transliteration. A student who decodes the script at half speed runs out of time on a paper that is not actually hard, and the mark drop reads like a comprehension problem when it is a fluency-of-reading problem.

At HL the course adds two literary works read in Hindi, and the individual oral changes shape completely: instead of responding to a visual stimulus tied to one of the five themes, the student analyses an extract from one of those works. That is a different skill, closer to literary comment than to description, and it is the single component where HL students most often underperform relative to their classwork. Schools in Abu Dhabi that run Hindi B usually have one teacher covering SL and HL together, which leaves the HL extract work thin.

What a tutor can realistically change in a term is narrow and specific: text-type conventions committed to memory, a bank of theme-linked vocabulary that is actually deployed rather than recognised, timed reading under Devanagari pressure, and an oral that is structured instead of improvised. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because the pool of people who can mark a Hindi B oral against the criteria is tiny and scattering it by postcode would not help an Abu Dhabi family at all.

At a glance

  • Paper 1 is 25% of the grade at both levels; Paper 2 listening and reading together are 50%
  • The individual oral carries the remaining 25% and is marked by the school, then moderated
  • SL Paper 1 asks for 250-400 words; HL asks for 450-600 in the same number of options
  • HL adds two literary works and rebuilds the oral around a printed extract
  • All five prescribed themes must be covered: identity, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation, sharing the planet
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Hindi appears at more than one point in the IB continuum, and Abu Dhabi schools place it differently depending on when a family arrived in the emirate. These are the programmes a Hindi-speaking student passes through and what each one actually does with the language.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two years where Hindi becomes an examined subject with a published assessment model. Students take it as language B at SL or HL in Group 2, or as language A: language and literature in Group 1 if the school supports that route. The Group 2 choice is normally locked in during the Year 11 options process, and changing it after the first term of DP1 is difficult because the themes are taught in sequence.

Abu Dhabi DP cohorts are small by Dubai standards, so a school may run Hindi B for a handful of students across both levels in one timetabled block. Families in Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City often find the subject is offered but thinly staffed, which is why online one-to-one support for the HL extract work and the oral is the most common request we see from this emirate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Hindi sits in the MYP language acquisition strand, taught in phases rather than levels. Phase placement, not year group, decides what a student is assessed on, and the four MYP criteria are listening, reading, speaking and writing in equal weight. The phase a student exits MYP in is the best single predictor of whether Hindi B SL or HL is the right DP entry point.

Several Abu Dhabi IB continuum schools assess MYP Hindi internally without an eAssessment entry, so there is no external mark to compare against. That makes the DP1 diagnostic the first honest measurement a family gets, and it frequently arrives a year later than it should. A phase 4 exit with weak writing is a warning for HL, not a recommendation.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Hindi in the PYP is an additional-language strand with no external assessment and considerable variation between schools. Some run it as a daily lesson with reading in Devanagari from Year 2; others treat it as a weekly cultural session with transliterated text. The difference compounds for a decade and shows up in DP1 as a reading-speed gap rather than a vocabulary gap.

Abu Dhabi primary provision for Hindi is uneven across the emirate, and a family moving from an Indian-curriculum school in Mussafah to an IB continuum school on Saadiyat Island will usually find the script expectation drops rather than rises. Keeping Devanagari reading alive through the PYP years is the cheapest intervention available to a Hindi-speaking household here.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines DP courses with a career-related study and a language development component. A student on the CP may study Hindi as part of language development without sitting the Language B examinations, which changes the assessment picture entirely: there is a portfolio rather than a paper, and the grade descriptors are not the Language B criteria.

CP provision in Abu Dhabi is limited to a small number of licensed schools, and the language development strand is the part families understand least. If your child is on the CP and someone has offered you Hindi B exam coaching, check with the DP coordinator first which assessment route is actually registered, because the two require different preparation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Hindi-speaking student in an Abu Dhabi DP cohort has more Group 1 and Group 2 options than the options booklet usually makes clear. These are the routes that come up in the conversation, with what each one assesses.

Hindi B

SL and HL

Language acquisition for students with prior experience of Hindi. Four components: Paper 1 productive writing, Paper 2 listening, Paper 2 reading, and the individual oral. HL adds two literary works and shifts the oral to an extract-based analysis. The commonest mark loss sits in text-type convention, not grammar.

Hindi A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

A Group 1 course for students operating in Hindi at near-native written level. Assessment moves to Paper 1 guided textual analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral on a global issue, and at HL a separate HL essay. Far more reading, and no credit for simply being a fluent speaker.

Hindi A: Literature, school-supported self-taught

SL only

Where a school cannot staff Hindi A, a student may take literature at SL as a self-taught candidate with a supervising coordinator. It demands independent reading of the prescribed works and a learner portfolio. Abu Dhabi schools use this route occasionally and it needs disciplined external support to work.

Arabic B

SL and HL

Some Hindi-speaking students take Arabic as their Group 2 language instead, usually because the school teaches it well and Hindi thinly. The assessment model mirrors Hindi B exactly, so the component skills transfer even though the vocabulary does not.

Arabic ab initio

SL only

A beginners' Group 2 course with its own narrower syllabus and a lower ceiling in terms of expected range. Not a soft option: the prescribed themes are the same five, and the writing task still demands text-type accuracy within a restricted lexicon.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

The Group 1 subject almost every Abu Dhabi DP student takes alongside Hindi B. Paper 1 is unseen non-literary analysis, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works. Students who handle English A Paper 1 well usually have the analytical habit the Hindi B HL oral needs.

French B

SL and HL

The other widely staffed Group 2 option in the emirate. Same four-component model as Hindi B. Families sometimes switch here when the school's Hindi provision is a single shared block, trading cultural familiarity for a better-resourced classroom.

Spanish B

SL and HL

Growing in Abu Dhabi DP timetables. The assessment structure is identical to Hindi B, which makes it a useful comparison when a family is weighing whether their child's problem is Hindi specifically or the Language B model generally.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Included here because the Group 2 decision is rarely made in isolation. A student carrying Maths AA HL has limited revision capacity for a second HL, which is often the strongest practical argument for taking Hindi B at SL rather than HL.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, compulsory

TOK overlaps with Hindi B more than students expect: the optional theme knowledge and language asks exactly the questions a bilingual Abu Dhabi student lives with. Material developed for the Hindi B conceptual understanding criterion often doubles as TOK exhibition thinking.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Hindi B splits cleanly into skills that need weekly repetition and skills that need a short concentrated block. Most Abu Dhabi families use a combination rather than one mode throughout.

Weekly one-to-one, online

A fixed 60 or 90-minute slot in Gulf Standard Time, same tutor each week. The default for Hindi B because vocabulary retention and reading speed respond to frequency rather than intensity. A 90-minute slot is normally split: timed writing, then marked feedback, then reading under the clock.

  • Same tutor, same time, recorded so a missed session is not lost
  • One text type drilled to convention each fortnight
  • Devanagari reading timed every session, not occasionally
  • Written work returned marked against the Language B criteria

Oral rehearsal block

A short run of sessions in the weeks before the school records the individual oral. At SL this is visual-stimulus work: describing, then linking to a theme, then holding a discussion. At HL it is extract analysis, which needs a different structure and more rehearsal than most students are given at school.

  • Mock orals run to the real timing and recorded for review
  • Structure practised until it survives nerves
  • Follow-up discussion questions anticipated and prepared
  • No scripting: the IB requires an unrehearsed response

Exam-session sprint

An intensive block in the weeks before the May session, built entirely around past-paper conditions. Paper 1 under time with handwriting, Paper 2 listening with the audio played twice as the exam allows, and reading at exam pace. The purpose is pacing and decision-making, not new content.

  • Two to three sessions a week, 90 minutes each
  • Every Paper 1 attempt handwritten, never typed
  • Listening practised at exam volume and exam pacing
  • Official past material referenced through the school, never reproduced by us

01

What a Hindi B search in Abu Dhabi is usually trying to fix

Parents searching for an IB DP Hindi B tutor in Abu Dhabi almost never describe a language problem. They describe a mark that does not match the child. The report says 4; the child negotiates in Hindi with grandparents on video calls every Sunday. Both are accurate, because the examination is not testing the thing the family can see.

Three specific mismatches account for most of it. The first is register: a student who speaks a comfortable mixed Hindi-English register at home writes it into a formal letter, and the message criterion drops. The second is text type: the Paper 1 options each name a text type and the conventions are assessable, so a speech without a salutation or a blog without a reader address loses marks that have nothing to do with linguistic range. The third is reading speed in Devanagari, which decides whether Paper 2 reading is a comprehension exercise or a race.

The fourth, less common but more damaging, is a wrong level. A fluent speaker is pushed into HL on the strength of conversation, then meets two literary works and an extract-based oral with no literary training. HL Hindi B is a reading course as much as a speaking one, and that is not obvious from the course title.

A useful first session therefore does not teach anything. It diagnoses: one timed Paper 1 under handwriting conditions, one reading passage against the clock, and five minutes of unprepared oral against a stimulus. Those three measurements tell you which of the four problems you actually have, and they stop a family paying for the wrong intervention for a term.

02

Hindi B at SL and HL: the four components and what each is worth

The Language B assessment model is identical in structure at SL and HL, and different in scale. The same four components, the same weightings, longer texts and an extra literary requirement at the higher level. Knowing the weightings changes how a family spends tutoring money: the listening and reading papers together are half the grade, and they are the two components schools timetable least.

Paper 1 gives three tasks and the student picks one. Each task names its audience, its purpose and its text type. The word count rises from 250-400 at SL to 450-600 at HL, which sounds modest until you remember it is handwritten in Devanagari under time pressure. Paper 2 is sat as one examination in two parts: a listening section with recorded passages played twice, and a reading section with written passages, both answered in Hindi.

The individual oral is recorded at school, marked by the teacher and sent for moderation. At SL the student speaks about a visual stimulus connected to one of the prescribed themes, then holds a discussion. At HL the stimulus is replaced by an extract from one of the two literary works studied, and the expectation shifts towards analysis of what the writer does rather than description of what is shown.

Durations and timings below follow the current Language B model. Confirm the exact figures for your child's session with the school's DP coordinator, since the IB publishes the authoritative detail in the subject guide and the examination instructions rather than on any third-party page.

03

Where Hindi B marks are actually lost

  • Text-type convention ignored: the most common single mark loss on Paper 1
  • Register mismatch between home Hindi and the formal written task
  • Answers given in English on a paper that must be answered in Hindi
  • Devanagari reading speed below exam pace, costing the final passage
  • HL orals that describe the extract instead of analysing it

The Language B criteria are the diagnostic tool, not the grade descriptors. Written and oral work is judged on language, on message, and on conceptual understanding. Most Abu Dhabi students who underperform are strong on the first and weak on the other two, which is the opposite of what a parent expects when the child is a confident speaker.

Message losses are structural. The task asked for a report and received an essay. The task named a school magazine readership and the response addressed nobody. The task required two points of view and the student gave one at length. None of those are language errors, and no amount of vocabulary work fixes them. They are fixed by memorising text-type conventions and by planning for ninety seconds before writing.

Conceptual understanding is the criterion students have never had explained to them. It rewards a response that visibly understands its audience, context, purpose, meaning and variation in register. A formal letter that opens with a casual greeting signals a failure of conceptual understanding even if every word is spelled correctly. In the oral it shows up as a student describing a photograph instead of connecting it to the theme it was chosen to illustrate.

On the receptive side, the losses are mechanical. Listening answers written in English score nothing. Reading answers lifted verbatim as a whole paragraph when the question wanted a phrase score nothing. Running out of time on the last reading passage costs more than any single grammatical weakness, and timing is the easiest thing on this list to fix in four sessions.

04

Hindi B, Hindi A or a different Group 2 language?

The level and route decision is worth more than a term of tutoring and is usually made in twenty minutes during a Year 11 options evening. In Abu Dhabi it is complicated by provision: a school may offer Hindi B but not Hindi A, or offer Hindi A only through the school-supported self-taught literature route, which is a serious undertaking for a teenager.

The honest test for Hindi A is written, not spoken. Can the student read a page of unseen literary Hindi prose and say something about how it is constructed? If not, Hindi A will be an uphill two years regardless of how fluent their speech is. The honest test for Hindi B HL rather than SL is similar: can they tolerate reading two full literary works in Hindi and comment on an extract without the book in front of them?

There is also the diploma-level question of total HL load. A student taking Maths AA HL, Chemistry HL and Hindi B HL has three content-heavy higher levels and an Extended Essay to write, which in practice means the Hindi HL literary reading gets dropped first. Taking Hindi B at SL and spending the recovered hours on the sciences is frequently the better diploma decision even when the child could pass HL.

Switching Group 2 language entirely is the least-discussed option. A student with weak Devanagari reading but strong analytical habits sometimes does better in a well-staffed French or Spanish B class than in a thinly staffed Hindi block, because the assessment model is identical and the teaching time is not.

05

The five prescribed themes and what Abu Dhabi students bring to them

  • Identity: family, language, migration, belonging, self-image
  • Experiences: travel, education, rites of passage, life stories
  • Human ingenuity: technology, communication, innovation, the arts
  • Social organisation: community, law, work, public services
  • Sharing the planet: environment, resources, equality, shared challenges

Every Language B course covers five prescribed themes: identity, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation, and sharing the planet. The themes are not topics to be memorised. They are the frames the Paper 1 tasks and the SL oral stimuli are built on, so a student who has a bank of theme-linked vocabulary and two concrete examples per theme walks into the examination with half the thinking already done.

Abu Dhabi students arrive with an unusually strong hand on some of these and an unusually weak one on others. Identity and experiences are rich: migration between India and the Gulf, multilingual households, schooling in a third language, summers in one country and winters in another. Students write well on these because they have something to say, and the vocabulary follows the content.

Social organisation and sharing the planet are where the vocabulary gap bites. A student can discuss water scarcity, desalination, construction labour, public transport or waste in English and in Arabic classroom terms, but has never had to do it in Hindi. The content knowledge is there and the lexicon is missing, which is a fast problem to fix with targeted vocabulary work and slow to fix by general conversation practice.

Human ingenuity is the theme most often left until last and most often examined. It covers technology, communication, innovation, entertainment and the arts, and it is the theme where a student with a strong Design or Computer Science background can do something genuinely interesting if they have the Hindi to carry it. Building two prepared examples per theme, in Hindi, with the vocabulary written down, is the single most efficient piece of homework in this subject.

What language tutoring costs in Abu Dhabi, and why online changes the maths

Published tutoring rates in the UAE sit in wide bands, and almost no competing page puts an AED figure on the record at all. The table below collects what agencies, platforms and independent tutors serving this market advertise, surveyed in October 2026, alongside the rate bands published in Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimate. These are market rates. They are not IB Gram's price list, and any figure quoted to you should come with the session length it refers to.

A minority language changes the economics. For Maths or Physics, an Abu Dhabi family choosing between online and an in-home tutor is choosing between a wide pool and a narrower local one. For Hindi B, the local pool of people who can mark an oral against the Language B criteria and explain the conceptual understanding descriptor is small enough that geography stops being a sensible filter. The in-home premium in the table buys travel, not expertise.

There is a second, quieter cost. An in-home language tutor who is a fluent Hindi speaker but not a Language B teacher will deliver pleasant conversation lessons that improve nothing measurable, because the marks are not lost in conversation. That is the most expensive outcome available in this subject: a year of lessons at a reasonable hourly rate that moves the grade not at all.

IB Gram delivers Hindi B as one-to-one online tuition over live video to families across Abu Dhabi. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Rather than quote a figure here, we match the subject and level first and discuss the plan on a consultation, with one free trial lesson per subject and no card details taken beforehand.

Hindi B alongside Arabic: the subject load nobody budgets for

A Hindi-speaking student in an Abu Dhabi private school is rarely studying one additional language. Federal rules require private schools to teach Arabic, Islamic education and social studies regardless of the international curriculum they are licensed to deliver, and the emirate regulators enforce that requirement alongside the school's own programme. For a DP student that means Hindi B in Group 2 and Arabic as a mandatory subject sitting outside the diploma.

The Dubai regulator's published guidance on mandatory subjects, which is the most detailed public document on how this works in the UAE, is explicit on two points worth knowing even outside Dubai: separate classes must be organised for Arabic first-language and non-Arab groups, with combined classes prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit with a recommendation that no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes.

In Abu Dhabi, ADEK licenses and inspects the emirate's private schools and publishes its own inspection ratings, and the federal baseline on Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies applies here as it does across the country. The practical effect on a DP timetable is that a student may be carrying two non-examined language commitments plus an examined Group 2 subject, and the examined one is the one that appears on the diploma.

This matters for how a family schedules tutoring. Loading a second weekly Hindi session onto a week that already contains mandatory Arabic, two HL sciences and an Extended Essay deadline tends to produce attendance problems rather than progress. One well-used weekly session with marked written work between lessons outperforms two sessions that get cancelled.

08

Academic honesty in a language subject: what a Hindi B tutor may and may not do

Language subjects attract a particular kind of malpractice, because the assessed products look like things an adult could simply supply. A tutor can draft a flawless Paper 1 response. A tutor can script an oral so tightly that the student recites it. Both breach IB academic-honesty rules, and the consequence lands on the student, not on the tutor.

The boundary is clear in practice. A tutor may teach text-type conventions, model a response that is then discarded, mark the student's own writing against the criteria, explain why a sentence misses the register, drill vocabulary, run timed practice, and rehearse the oral by asking unprepared discussion questions. A tutor may not supply sentences to be reproduced in an assessed task, may not prepare a script for the individual oral, and may not correct a draft that is about to be submitted as an assessed piece.

The oral deserves specific mention because it is recorded at school and marked internally. The IB expects an unrehearsed response to the stimulus or extract. A student who delivers a memorised monologue is usually identifiable from the recording, and the tell is that the discussion that follows collapses. Rehearsing structure and anticipating question types is legitimate preparation. Memorising a text is not.

IB Gram does not supply completed coursework of any kind, in any subject, and will not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes. Those are the school's to provide and the IB's to publish. Several pages ranking for searches like this one sell finished assessed work, and a parent should treat that as the warning sign it is rather than a service.

09

What Hindi B counts for at UAE Ministry of Education equivalency

Families in Abu Dhabi who expect their child to apply to a UAE university, or to need an attested secondary certificate for any purpose here, run into equivalency. The Ministry of Education sets out what each curriculum must show, and the rules differ by track. For the British route, published guidance requires five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details catch people out. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects on that British-track count, which means a student who assumed their mandatory Arabic grade filled a slot may be a subject short. And at least one widely ranking tutoring page states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published five-subject rule. Check the figure against the Ministry's own guidance rather than against a tutoring site.

For the IB specifically, we publish no points threshold on this page. The equivalency requirements we can source cover the British and American tracks; no IB points figure has been read on the Ministry's own pages during the preparation of this page, so stating one would be guesswork on a regulatory matter. Verify any IB requirement directly with the Ministry of Education or the attestation authority before relying on it.

What this means for Hindi B is simple and often reassuring. A Group 2 language taken as part of a completed IB Diploma is a subject on the transcript like any other. Equivalency is a process the family and the school handle with the authority, not something a tutoring platform performs or can speed up, and no tutoring is required for it.

Where we tutor

Where our Abu Dhabi Hindi B students live

Hindi B demand in Abu Dhabi clusters by community rather than by school rating. These are the areas the enquiries come from, and what the local school run does to the available lesson slots.

Khalifa City

Dense Indian-expatriate housing with a mix of British and IB continuum schools within a short drive. Buses arrive home between 3:30pm and 4:15pm, so a 5pm or 6pm Hindi B slot is realistic on weekdays.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

One of the largest concentrations of Hindi-speaking households in the emirate. Many students here speak Hindi daily but read Devanagari rarely, which is the exact profile Paper 2 reading punishes.

Al Reef

A commuter community where school buses run long routes to the island and to Khalifa City. Lessons later than 6pm work better here than mid-afternoon, and Friday mornings are popular for timed paper practice.

Al Reem Island

High-rise living close to the island schools, with several newer international schools within walking or short-driving distance. Short commutes mean this is the one area where a 4:30pm start is routinely possible.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community feeding the Al Raha and Khalifa City school corridor. Families here often run two or three siblings across different programmes, so a fixed weekly Hindi B slot that never moves is worth more than flexibility.

Saadiyat Island

Smaller Hindi-speaking population but a strong DP presence. Requests from Saadiyat skew towards HL extract work and oral rehearsal rather than foundation vocabulary.

Al Mushrif

Established inner-city area close to several long-running private schools. Traffic into and off the island at 3pm to 4pm is the practical constraint; online delivery removes it entirely.

Yas Island

Newer residential clusters with growing school capacity. Hindi B enquiries here are usually from families who moved within the UAE and found the Group 2 provision different from their previous school.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The island, the Corniche and Al Mushrif

Long-established private schools, several with DP cohorts that have run for more than a decade. Group 2 provision here tends to be stronger in French and Arabic than in Hindi, so Hindi B students are often taught in a combined SL and HL block.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the component

An enquiry that says Hindi B HL, oral in six weeks, extract work not started is worth more than a general request for a Hindi tutor. Level, which of the four components is weakest and the school's internal deadline are the three facts that decide the match.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic before teaching

The first session measures rather than teaches: one timed Paper 1 under handwriting conditions, one reading passage against the clock, and a short unprepared oral. That produces a written diagnosis of which criterion is losing marks, and the plan follows from it.

  3. 03

Match to a Language B teacher, not a Hindi speaker

The filter is whether the tutor can mark against the language, message and conceptual understanding criteria and explain the difference. Fluency in Hindi is necessary and not sufficient, and this is where most Hindi tutoring money in the Gulf is wasted.

  4. 04

One free trial lesson, then a plan

One trial lesson per subject, no card details taken, with the diagnosis shared afterwards whether or not you continue. If the plan we propose is four sessions rather than a year, we will say so, and if the right answer is a level change we will say that too.

  5. 05

Weekly cadence with marked work between

A fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, written work set and returned marked against the criteria, and reading timed every session. Progress in this subject is visible in the written work, not in how the conversation feels.

  6. 06

Review against the school's own timeline

The school's internal oral recording window and mock dates drive the plan, not a generic schedule. We adjust the cadence around them, including shifting to post-Iftar evening slots during Ramadan when families ask.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Criteria marking, not conversation practice

Written work comes back marked against language, message and conceptual understanding with the reason for each loss identified. A parent can read the feedback and see which criterion moved, which is not something a general conversation lesson can produce.

A pool chosen by subject, not postcode

Hindi B teaching at diploma level is a narrow specialism anywhere in the Gulf. Matching online across the whole pool is how an Abu Dhabi family gets a Language B specialist rather than the nearest fluent speaker.

Timed to the Abu Dhabi school day

Sessions are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around bus arrival times from the island and the mainland corridor, with later slots for Al Reef and Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Friday mornings available for timed paper practice.

Honest about level and about scope

If the diagnosis says the student is in the wrong Group 2 route or the wrong level, that is what we report, even where it means fewer sessions. The same applies when the real problem is reading speed and four sessions will fix it.

Clear academic-honesty boundaries

We teach, mark and rehearse. We do not supply sentences for assessed tasks, script orals or produce coursework, and we do not reproduce IB syllabus material. The boundary is stated to the student in the first session, not left implicit.

Independent, with nothing to sell you but teaching

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to any school, school group or regulator in the UAE, and no accreditation from the IB. What we can be judged on is whether the marked work improves.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does IB DP Hindi B actually assess at SL and HL?+

Four components, identical in structure at both levels. Paper 1 is productive writing: one task from three, in a named text type, worth 25%. Paper 2 is sat as one examination in two parts, listening and reading, each worth 25%, both answered in Hindi. The individual oral carries the final 25%, recorded at school and moderated. SL writing is 250-400 words, HL 450-600. HL also requires two literary works, and the HL oral is built on an extract from one of them rather than a visual stimulus. Confirm exact durations with your school's DP coordinator.

My child speaks Hindi at home but keeps losing marks in Paper 1. Why?+

Almost always register and text type rather than language. Paper 1 names an audience, a purpose and a text type, and the message criterion rewards following those conventions. A student who writes comfortable spoken-register Hindi into a formal letter, or produces an essay when a report was asked for, loses marks while sounding entirely fluent. The conceptual understanding criterion compounds it: it looks for visible awareness of audience, context and purpose. The fix is memorising text-type conventions and planning for ninety seconds before writing, not more vocabulary.

Is Hindi B easier than Hindi A: Language and Literature?+

Different rather than easier, though Hindi B is the lighter reading load. Hindi B is a language acquisition course with four components and five prescribed themes. Hindi A is a Group 1 literature-based course with guided textual analysis, a comparative essay and, at HL, an additional essay. The honest test is written: if your child cannot read unseen literary Hindi prose and comment on how it is built, Hindi A will be a difficult two years however fluent their speech. Fluency in conversation earns no credit in Hindi A.

How much does a Hindi B tutor in Abu Dhabi charge per hour?+

Market rates surveyed in October 2026 run from AED 45-150 an hour for budget online tutors to AED 150-300 for a qualified subject teacher online, AED 180-500 for an in-home visit including travel, and AED 200-450 or more for an IB specialist. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home at AED 180-350 and specialists at AED 200-450 plus. Those are market figures, not ours. For a minority language the in-home premium buys travel rather than Language B expertise, which is the distinction worth paying for.

Can my child take Hindi B if the school in Abu Dhabi does not teach it?+

That depends entirely on the school, and it is a conversation with the DP coordinator rather than with a tutor. Schools register candidates for subjects they can support, and some will accommodate a language outside their timetable through a self-taught or externally supported arrangement while others will not. What a tutoring platform cannot do is register a candidate or create a school's provision. Ask the coordinator early in Year 11, because the answer shapes the whole Group 2 decision and is difficult to revisit in DP1.

What is the individual oral in Hindi B and how is it different at HL?+

It is a recorded one-to-one assessment carried the school marks before moderation, worth 25% at both levels. At SL the student responds to a visual stimulus linked to one of the five prescribed themes, then holds a discussion. At HL the stimulus is replaced by an extract from one of the two literary works studied, and the expectation moves from describing to analysing what the writer does. That shift is the main reason HL students underperform relative to their classwork, because extract analysis is rarely rehearsed enough at school.

How many literary works does Hindi B HL require?+

Two, read in Hindi across the two years. They are not examined by a separate paper. They feed the HL individual oral, where the student analyses an extract from one of them. Students and families frequently discover this late, because the works sit outside the prescribed-theme teaching sequence and are easy to postpone. In a timetable with three higher levels and an Extended Essay, the literary reading is the first thing dropped, and the consequence lands on a component worth a quarter of the grade.

Does Hindi B count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

A Group 2 language inside a completed IB Diploma appears on the transcript like any other subject. The published equivalency rules we can source cover the British and American tracks: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels. No IB points threshold has been read on the Ministry's own pages, so this page publishes none. Verify any IB requirement with the Ministry or the attestation authority directly.

How much Devanagari handwriting practice does Paper 1 need?+

More than most students get, because Paper 1 is handwritten and nothing else in their week is. A student who types Hindi occasionally and handwrites it almost never will produce 450-600 HL words slowly and untidily, and legibility is the examiner's problem turned into the student's mark. We set handwritten practice from the first session and keep every Paper 1 attempt on paper rather than on screen. Four or five timed handwritten attempts usually brings pace and legibility to where the examination needs them.

Which of the five prescribed themes causes Abu Dhabi students the most trouble?+

Social organisation and sharing the planet, consistently. Students here can discuss water scarcity, public transport, construction labour or waste in English and often in classroom Arabic, but have never had to do it in Hindi. The content knowledge exists and the lexicon does not, which is a fast problem to fix with targeted vocabulary and a slow one to fix through general conversation. Identity and experiences are usually their strongest themes, because migration between India and the Gulf gives them genuine material to write about.

Can a tutor coach the individual oral without breaking IB academic-honesty rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may rehearse structure, run mock orals to the real timing, anticipate discussion questions, build theme vocabulary and give feedback on recordings. A tutor may not prepare a script for the student to memorise, supply sentences for the assessed recording, or edit an assessed draft to completion. The IB expects an unrehearsed response, and a memorised monologue usually shows itself when the discussion that follows collapses. We state that boundary to the student in the first session.

How many sessions a week does Hindi B HL usually need in the exam year?+

One well-used weekly session with marked written work in between is the normal starting point, rising to two or three in the weeks before the oral recording window or the May session. Loading a second weekly slot onto a timetable that already carries mandatory Arabic, two content-heavy higher levels and an Extended Essay deadline tends to produce cancellations rather than progress. The better lever is usually the quality of the work done between lessons, which is why written work is set and returned marked every week.

Does my child still have to study Arabic alongside Hindi B in Abu Dhabi?+

Almost certainly yes. Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic, Islamic education and social studies alongside whichever international curriculum they are licensed to deliver, and the emirate authorities enforce that. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK licenses and inspects the emirate's private schools and publishes its inspection ratings. So a DP student may carry mandatory Arabic outside the diploma while taking Hindi B inside it. Only the Group 2 subject appears on the diploma, but both consume timetable hours, which matters when planning tutoring.

Are Hindi B lessons taught in Hindi or in English?+

The lesson runs in Hindi, because the examination runs in Hindi and listening answers written in English score nothing. Tutors switch to English only to explain a marking criterion or a text-type convention, where precision about what the examiner is rewarding matters more than immersion. Students who are used to a mixed home register find the first two sessions tiring and then adjust quickly. Parents who want to follow the feedback get the written marking in English, keyed to the criterion that lost the marks.

Can lessons move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan in Abu Dhabi?+

Yes, and most families ask for it. School hours shorten during Ramadan, energy in the late afternoon drops and the useful study window moves to after Iftar. We reschedule the fixed weekly slot for the month rather than pausing, since Ramadan frequently falls close to internal oral recording windows and mock examinations. Timed paper practice generally works better in the morning during that month, so some families move their Paper 1 practice to a weekend slot and keep the evening session for oral rehearsal.

What happens if no Hindi B specialist is free when we enquire?+

We tell you, with a timeframe, rather than matching you to a general Hindi speaker and hoping. Diploma-level Language B teaching in Hindi is a narrow specialism, and availability is tighter in the weeks before oral recording windows and the May session. Where the wait is real, we will say how long it is likely to be and what the student can usefully do in the meantime, including which component to work on alone. A match that cannot mark against the criteria is worse than a short wait.

Start with a diagnosis, not a package

If your child is fluent in Hindi and the Hindi B grade does not show it, the useful next step is a measurement rather than a booking. One timed Paper 1 under handwriting conditions, one reading passage against the clock and five minutes of unprepared oral will tell you which of the four components is actually losing the marks, and whether the problem is register, text type, reading speed or a level that was chosen on the strength of conversation. Tell us the level, the weakest component and the school's internal deadline, and we will match an IB DP Hindi B tutor in Abu Dhabi accordingly, with one free trial lesson and the diagnosis shared either way.
