IGCSE Revision Classes in Abu Dhabi

IGCSE revision classes in Abu Dhabi are easy to buy and hard to judge, so this page is about evidence. What a marked paper tells you that a progress email does not, which component scores to watch, what a real four-week movement looks like against a flat one, and when to change tutor rather than add hours. Delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time to families across the emirate.

  • Every session produces a marked, dated piece of timed work
  • Component scores tracked paper by paper, not as an overall grade
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel syllabus codes named explicitly
  • June and November are the UAE series; February and March are India only

How to tell whether IGCSE revision is working

Most parents judge revision by atmosphere. The student seems more settled, the tutor sounds confident, the weekly message says good progress. None of that is evidence, and in a nine-month IGCSE run it is possible to spend a great deal of money on an atmosphere. The evidence is a stack of marked papers with dates on them, and this page is about reading that stack.

Start with the right unit of measurement. An IGCSE grade is built from separate papers with separate weightings, so an overall percentage hides the thing you need to see. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 has different papers at Core and Extended tier. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 has a theory paper, a multiple-choice paper and a practical component. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A is 4MA1 with its own paper structure. A student can hold a steady overall mark for six weeks while one component quietly collapses and another improves, and that is invisible unless somebody records the components separately.

So the first thing a revision class should produce is a table, not a report. Date, paper, component, raw mark, available mark, and the error category. Error category is the part almost nobody keeps, and it is the most useful column: knowledge gap, method error, command-term misread, arithmetic slip, or ran out of time. Four weeks of that column tells you whether the tutoring is addressing the actual failure mode or teaching content the student already had.

What movement looks like is worth being concrete about, because expectations drive bad decisions. A genuine four-week movement on a single component is a few marks, repeated across two different papers of the same format, with the dominant error category changing. A single good score is noise; students have good days. A flat four weeks with the same dominant error every time is not a reason for more hours, it is a reason to change what the hours contain, and sometimes to change the tutor. We would rather say that than sell a fifth month.

There is one prerequisite to all of this that costs nothing and gets skipped constantly. Before any script is worth marking, confirm the board, the specification code and the tier for each subject in writing, and confirm the series and the Cambridge administrative zone with your school's exams officer. A student revising Extended-tier papers who is entered at Core tier is producing marks that describe a paper they will never sit, and the family will spend four months reading a record that cannot mean anything. Ten minutes of paperwork makes the next four months of evidence interpretable.

IB Gram delivers IGCSE revision to Abu Dhabi families as one-to-one online tuition on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run in India only. For evidence-led revision the online format helps directly, because scripts are shared, annotated and stored rather than left in a folder in a bag, and a parent can look at week two next to week nine without organising anything.

At a glance

  • Track component scores separately, never a single overall percentage
  • Record an error category for every marked piece: gap, method, command term, slip, timing
  • A real movement repeats across two papers of the same format
  • Four flat weeks with one dominant error means change the content, not the hour count
  • Cambridge codes 0580 and 0625; Pearson International GCSE Maths A is 4MA1
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; the February and March series is India only

IGCSE revision in Abu Dhabi spans two boards and two tiers, and the evidence you collect differs across them. Here is what is actually being revised in each case.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Individually certificated subjects assessed by externally marked papers, with many subjects tiered into Core and Extended. Mathematics is 0580, Physics 0625, and the syllabus code matters because the paper structure and the grade ceiling follow the tier rather than the subject. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For an Abu Dhabi family this is a five-minute check with the exams officer and the single highest-consequence item in the whole revision plan.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board widely taught in the emirate, with its own specification codes such as 4MA1 for International GCSE Mathematics A. Pearson exams are available in May and June and again in November each year, and some specifications are structured differently from the Cambridge equivalent, which changes what revision has to rehearse.

Pearson's dated calendar is useful precisely because it is published: the November 2026 International GCSE final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always work from the live official PDF.

TIERAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Core and Extended tiering

Not a board but the decision that shapes the evidence. Core tier covers less content and caps the attainable grade; Extended covers more and opens the top grades. A revision plan built on the wrong assumption about tier is revising the wrong papers, and the mark evidence will look inexplicable until somebody checks.

Abu Dhabi schools make tier decisions at different points in Year 10 and sometimes revisit them in Year 11. Ask which tier your child is entered for, in writing, and ask when the entry becomes final. The answer determines which past papers the revision should be using and therefore whether the marked evidence means anything at all.

PRIVATEAny IGCSE candidate

Private candidate entry

Where a student is not entered through a school, entry goes through a centre that accepts external candidates, and some subjects are harder to sit privately because of coursework or practical components. The revision evidence is the same; the administration is not, and the deadlines sit months before the papers.

This matters in Abu Dhabi for students between schools, students schooling at home, and students adding a subject their school does not offer. Identify the accepting centre before building a revision plan, because a well-revised candidate with no entry has nothing to sit.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Abu Dhabi families most often book revision in, with the component the marked evidence usually indicts.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1

Marks leak through method omission rather than wrong answers. The error column fills with method error and arithmetic slip, and both are drillable. Extended-tier candidates lose most in the later algebra and trigonometry questions where working is not shown.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended

The practical component and the extended-response questions produce the most recoverable marks. Students give correct conclusions without the reasoning step the mark scheme requires, which is a writing fault rather than a physics one.

Chemistry

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and organic naming dominate the error log. Multi-step calculations lose a mark early and then propagate, so the useful evidence is which step failed rather than whether the final answer was right.

Biology

Core and Extended

Content volume with command-term precision on top. Marked scripts show full knowledge expressed in the wrong verb, which scores nothing. The error category here is almost always command-term misread.

English Language

First Language and Second Language

Reading-paper marks are won by selecting evidence precisely and lost by summarising. Writing-paper marks move with structure and register. Both are measurable week to week once the marking is done against the criteria rather than impressionistically.

English Literature

Cambridge and Pearson specifications

Textual detail under timing is the whole game. The evidence to watch is quotation accuracy and the number of distinct points made, both countable, both improvable in four weeks.

Business Studies

Core and Extended

Case-application marks separate the grades. Students define a term and then do not apply it to the stimulus, which caps answers in the knowledge bands. The error log shows this as a method error, not a gap.

Economics

Core and Extended

Diagram marks are the cheapest in the paper and the most frequently dropped, usually through unlabelled axes or a missing equilibrium point. Measurable within two weeks because the fix is mechanical.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge specification

Taken by stronger candidates and still the subject where timing fails most often. The evidence to collect is how many questions were reached, not just how many were right.

Arabic

First Language and Foreign Language

Productive skills decide the grade while receptive practice dominates most revision. Marked writing in the required text types, corrected at sentence level, is the only evidence that moves here.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 and equivalents

Pseudocode convention accuracy and the theory paper's extended answers. Students who code well in a real language still lose convention marks, which the error log exposes immediately.

Geography

Core and Extended

Named case studies with figures and dates, plus skills questions on maps and graphs. The skills questions are the quickest measurable gain because they are pattern-based.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each shape below produces a different quantity of evidence per week, which is the thing to choose on rather than the price alone.

Weekly session plus one marked paper

One ninety-minute session a week, with one timed piece completed between sessions, marked and returned before the next one. This is the default because it produces one dated data point a week, which is the minimum rate at which a four-week trend becomes readable.

  • One marked, dated script per week with an error category
  • Component scores recorded separately, not averaged
  • Review of the error log every fourth session
  • Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Twice weekly, paper-led

Two sessions a week in the final stretch, one teaching and one spent entirely on a full timed paper marked live. Produces two data points a week and exposes timing faults that a single weekly session hides, at the cost of a heavier load on the student.

  • A full paper under conditions every week
  • Live marking so the student sees the scheme applied
  • Suited to the last six to eight weeks before a series
  • Heavier weekly load; not sustainable for nine months

Two-subject alternating block

Two subjects on alternating weeks with a shared error log, usually Maths and one science. Slower evidence per subject but cheaper than two separate plans, and the shared log often reveals that one error category is causing problems in both.

  • One error log across both subjects
  • A data point per subject every fortnight
  • Reveals shared faults such as command-term misreading
  • Slower to detect a single-subject problem

Diagnostic block

Three sessions and three marked papers, with no commitment beyond that, used to establish what is actually wrong before buying anything longer. The honest first purchase where a family has no component-level evidence at all.

  • Three dated scripts across different components
  • A written error analysis at the end
  • No obligation to continue
  • Often shows that less tutoring is needed than assumed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The evidence table a revision class should hand you

A revision class should produce a running record you can read without the tutor present. Date, paper and component, raw mark out of the available mark, and the dominant error category. That is five columns and it takes two minutes to update after each marked piece. No competitor page researched for this project publishes anything like it, and it is the single most useful artefact in the whole arrangement.

The error category column is what makes the record diagnostic rather than decorative. Five categories cover almost everything at IGCSE: knowledge gap, where the content was never learned; method error, where the approach was wrong or working was not shown; command-term misread, where the student answered a different question; arithmetic or transcription slip; and timing, where questions were not reached. Each one implies a different intervention, and only the first is fixed by teaching more content.

Read the record by looking for a change in the dominant category rather than a rise in the mark. A student whose scripts move from knowledge gap to timing has made real progress even if the total has not moved yet, because timing is the last fault to fall and the quickest to fix once the content is secure. A student whose scripts show command-term misread in weeks one, three, five and seven has not been taught the fix, and more hours of the same will not deliver it.

The table below shows what a readable four-week record looks like. It is an illustrative record of the kind a revision class should produce, not a published result: we do not publish student outcome statistics on these pages, because any statistic without the number of students, the date and the method behind it is a claim rather than evidence, and this market is full of those.

02

Why component scores beat an overall percentage

  • Record each component separately with its own available mark
  • A flat total can hide one component rising and another falling
  • Repeat the same paper format deliberately so attempts are comparable
  • Four unchanged attempts on one component means change the approach
  • Marks across different papers or boards are not comparable

An IGCSE subject grade is assembled from papers with different weightings, and that assembly is where the useful information lives. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 separates theory, multiple-choice and practical work. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 has a different paper structure at Core tier than at Extended. Pearson's International GCSE Mathematics A, specification 4MA1, has its own arrangement again. An overall percentage averages all of that into a number that cannot tell you where to spend the next ten hours.

The practical consequence appears in week six of most revision plans. A student holds a steady total for a month and the family concludes nothing is happening, when in fact one component has improved by a useful margin and another has fallen, and the two cancel. Or the reverse: the total rises while the weakest component stays exactly where it was, because the student is getting better at the paper they were already good at. Neither is visible without separate component records, and both change what the tutoring should do next.

This is also how you decide whether a revision class is worth continuing. If the component you bought the class to fix has not moved across four separately marked attempts at the same format, the class is not working on that component, and the right conversation is about content and approach rather than about more hours. We will raise it rather than wait for the family to notice, because a tutoring plan that quietly does not work is the most expensive thing in this market.

One qualification. Comparing a mark on a Paper 2 to a mark on a Paper 4 tells you very little, and comparing across boards tells you less. Evidence only works when the format is held constant deliberately. That is why the sequence above repeats the same paper type: the point of a second attempt at the same format is to make the first one interpretable.

03

The June and November series, counted backwards

UAE IGCSE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May and June and again in November each year. The February and March Cambridge series is offered to India only and is not a route available to a candidate sitting in this emirate, which matters because advice written for an Indian audience circulates widely here.

Cambridge adds a logistical trap worth the five minutes it takes to close. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and it says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school's exams officer which zone the centre sits in and work only from that version. This is the highest-consequence item on the entire revision plan and it costs nothing.

Pearson's published dates show why entry deadlines sit so far ahead of the papers. The November 2026 International GCSE final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students in January; the November 2025 results landed with students on 22 January 2026, and June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, so the right habit is to work from the live official PDF rather than from any restatement, including this one.

Build the revision record against the series rather than the calendar month. Sixteen weeks out is topic repair, twelve weeks out is component technique on the weakest paper, eight weeks out is full papers under conditions, and the final fortnight is error-pattern drilling and logistics with nothing new introduced. Write the known losses in first: travel, Ramadan timing, and the school's own mock weeks, which will take time out of the plan whether you plan for them or not.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and why the revision differs

Abu Dhabi schools use both boards, and some families have children on different boards in the same house. The subject names look identical and the papers are not, so revision material has to match the specification your child is actually entered for. Using Cambridge 0580 past papers to revise for Pearson 4MA1 produces practice that is useful in content and misleading in format, and format is half of what a revision class is selling.

The first thing to establish is the specification code, not the subject name. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 and Physics is 0625; Pearson's International GCSE Mathematics A is 4MA1. Those codes appear on the school's entry paperwork and on the exam timetable, and they determine which past papers, mark schemes and examiner reports are relevant. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across an entire cluster of researched competitor pages, which tells you how rarely this gets checked.

The structural differences show up in the evidence. Where a specification is modular, a student may sit components at different points, which changes what a mark in February actually represents. Where a subject is tiered into Core and Extended, the grade ceiling differs and so do the papers, so a strong Core mark and a weak Extended mark can describe the same performance. And where a science has a practical component or an alternative written paper in its place, revision for that component is a specific skill rather than general subject knowledge.

Practically: ask the school for the board, the specification code and the tier for every subject in the revision plan, in writing, and ask when entries become final. Then check that the past papers in use match all three. It is a ten-minute task that decides whether every marked script you collect for the next four months means anything. We do not supply or reproduce papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents; we cite them and link to the board's official page, which is lawful and keeps the student on the current version.

05

What a four-week movement actually looks like

  • A movement is a rise across two attempts at the same format, not one good score
  • The usual order of faults is gap, then method, then timing, then slips
  • A changing error category is progress even before the total moves
  • The same dominant error for four weeks means change the sessions, not the count
  • No outcome statistics appear here, because none could be published with n, date and method

Expectations drive decisions, so it is worth being concrete about the size and shape of real progress. A genuine four-week movement on one component is a measurable rise across two separately marked attempts at the same paper format, with the dominant error category changing between them. One good score is not a movement; students have good days and bad papers, and a single data point cannot distinguish between the two.

The sequence that recurs in marked scripts goes knowledge gap, then method error, then timing, then slips. That order is not arbitrary. A student cannot show method until the content is there, cannot run out of time until they are attempting everything, and cannot be undone by arithmetic until the method is sound. So a record that walks down that list in four weeks is working even if the raw mark has moved modestly, and a record where the dominant category never changes is not working regardless of what the raw mark does.

This is also how to decide about changing tutor, which parents are often reluctant to raise. If the component you bought the sessions to fix shows the same dominant error at weeks one, three, five and seven, the issue is the content of the sessions, not their quantity. Adding a second weekly session to a plan that is not addressing the fault doubles the cost of not addressing it. Ask what specifically will be different next week, and ask it as a question about the error category.

We publish no success statistics on these pages, and the absence is deliberate. A percentage without the number of students behind it, the date, and the method by which it was calculated is a marketing claim, and several providers in this market publish exactly that, sometimes contradicting themselves within one page. What we will commit to is the record: dated scripts, separated components, a named error category each time, and an honest reading of the trend including when it says stop.

06

What IGCSE revision costs in Abu Dhabi, and what the evidence is worth

Rates first, briefly, because the evidence argument only matters once the price is known. Published UAE market figures as read in October 2026 put budget online tutoring at roughly AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65; qualified subject tutors online at roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150; and specialists at roughly AED 200-450 and above. In-home one-to-one in the UAE runs roughly AED 180-500 including travel. Those are other providers' published rates, not an IB Gram price list.

What the marking is worth is the part nobody prices. A ninety-minute session with a full paper marked against the scheme and returned with an error category involves real work outside the lesson, and it is in the rate whether anyone itemises it or not. A cheaper arrangement where scripts are self-marked against a downloaded scheme is a legitimate product and a different one: it gives the student a score and tells nobody why the marks went. If a quote is at the bottom of the band, ask who marks the work, and the answer usually explains the price.

The cheapest sensible first purchase is a diagnostic block: three sessions, three marked papers across different components, and a written error analysis, with no obligation beyond that. At the qualified-tutor band that is roughly AED 675-1,350 for four and a half hours. It frequently shows that less tutoring is needed than the family assumed, or that the problem sits in one component rather than one subject, which is the difference between a four-session purchase and a four-month one.

For context on where this sits in a household's education spend, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. Abu Dhabi fee regulation sits with ADEK and works separately, but the household shape is the same: fees are fixed, tutoring is variable, and the variable cost is the one worth scoping tightly to a named component with a record attached.

Online delivery, and the honest case for it on evidence grounds

  • IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are India only
  • Annotated scripts are stored and timestamped, so trends are readable without filing
  • Sessions continue through traffic, weather and family travel
  • Specification specialists are findable online and often not locally
  • If physical presence is what gets your child started, say so before booking

Parents searching for revision classes in Abu Dhabi usually picture a classroom or a tutor at the table, so it is worth answering that directly. In-home tutoring is a substantial market here with published prices of roughly AED 180-500 an hour, most of the premium over online being travel. Tuition centres run group classes on a fixed timetable, and the family does the driving twice per session. Both exist and both work for some students.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Revision for Abu Dhabi families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. The evidence argument for that is specific rather than general. Scripts annotated on a shared screen are stored and timestamped, so week two sits next to week nine without anyone keeping a folder. The error log lives in one place both the tutor and the parent can open. And sessions do not disappear because of traffic on the Sheikh Zayed bridge or a sandstorm, which matters when the whole method depends on weekly continuity.

The second argument is about who teaches. A 0625 Physics specialist who has marked hundreds of practical-component answers is findable online and often is not findable within a drive of Al Shamkha or Al Ain. For evidence-led revision this is the whole point: the error category only becomes useful if somebody can read it precisely, and reading an error log in Cambridge Physics is a specialist act, not a general teaching one.

One in-home advantage deserves naming rather than ignoring. A student who will not start work without a person physically present sometimes performs better with a local tutor regardless of that tutor's subject depth. If that describes your child, say so at the outset. The honest answer may be a local presence for accountability plus a short online component block with a specialist, which costs less than buying either at full length and produces better evidence than buying neither.

08

Permits, regulators and what a parent can verify

A parent can check whether a tutor is permitted to work, and it is worth doing. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page is Issuance of a New Work Permit, Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two implications follow. The permit is free, so a provider citing permit costs as a rate driver is inventing one. And no fine schedule is published for tutoring without a permit, so no amount should be quoted to you; the ministry did not specify fine amounts, as reported in the press, and a figure circulating as a maximum could not be verified, so it is left out of this page on purpose.

On the school side, private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are licensed and inspected by ADEK, which u.ae describes as supervising the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages researched for this project. It regulates schools, publishes inspection ratings, and approves no individual tutor. A tuition business with premises and staff is a separate matter again: in Dubai that requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal.

One boundary before you book. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as barring teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct makes the same point. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document, but do not plan around hiring your child's own subject teacher. IB Gram holds no ADEK, KHDA, MoE, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership, and claims none.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where you live in the emirate changes what evidence you can realistically collect, because it changes how many sessions fit in a week and when the student is still awake enough to sit a timed paper.

Abu Dhabi Island

Short school runs mean a 16:30 start works, so a timed paper can be sat at home on a weekday rather than only at weekends. That makes weekly evidence collection genuinely sustainable here.

Khalifa City

A 20-40 minute commute from the island schools pushes weekday starts to 17:30 or later. Most families here sit the timed paper on a Friday or Saturday morning instead, which works as long as it is actually timed.

Al Raha and Al Raha Beach

Students are typically home by 15:45, the earliest in the emirate, which allows a session and a separate timed paper in the same week without either being squeezed.

Yas Island

Newer schools with shorter results histories, so school-side mock evidence is sometimes thinner. Families here often rely more on tutor-marked papers to see where a student stands.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

Long mainland commutes compress the evening. Weekend timed papers are the norm, and during Ramadan the whole pattern moves post-Iftar, which is workable if agreed in advance.

Al Ain

Ninety minutes inland under the same regulator, with few resident IGCSE specialists in the sciences. Online delivery is how an Al Ain family gets a 0625 Physics specialist rather than a general science tutor.

Al Mushrif and Al Bateen

Established central districts where students often take nine or ten subjects, so the revision evidence has to be prioritised across subjects rather than collected for all of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Confirm board, code and tier

Before anything is booked, get the board, the specification code and the tier in writing for each subject, plus the series and the Cambridge zone from the exams officer. Ten minutes of checking decides whether four months of marked scripts will mean anything.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic block first

Three sessions and three marked papers across different components, with a written error analysis and no obligation to continue. It costs a fraction of a term and frequently shows the problem is narrower, or wider, than the family assumed.

  3. 03

    Agree what gets recorded

Date, paper, component, raw mark, available mark, error category. We keep it and share it. If a provider will not commit to a record in that shape, you have no way to judge the next four months except by how the sessions feel.

  4. 04

    Free trial lesson

One lesson with the proposed tutor on the actual weakest component, at no charge, so you see the teaching and the marking rather than a profile. If the match is wrong we offer another tutor instead of asking you to persist with it.

  5. 05

    Weekly session, weekly script

One session, one timed piece completed between sessions, marked and returned before the next. The same paper format is repeated deliberately so attempts are comparable. The error log is reviewed openly every fourth session.

  6. 06

Read the trend and act on it

If the dominant error has not changed in four marked attempts, we say so and change the content of the sessions, or recommend a different tutor. Adding hours to a plan that is not addressing the fault only makes the fault more expensive.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A record you can read without us

Dated scripts, components separated, an error category on every piece. No researched competitor page publishes anything resembling a progress record, which is how a term of revision can pass without anybody being able to say whether it worked.

Specification codes, not subject names

0580, 0625 and 4MA1 are different papers with different question styles. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across a whole cluster of researched competitor pages, so practice in the wrong format is a common and expensive mistake.

The right series and the right zone

UAE candidates sit June and November; the February and March Cambridge series is India only. Cambridge allocates centres to six zones and will not take responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong timetable version. Both are five-minute checks.

We tell you when to stop

Four marked attempts with the same dominant error means the sessions need changing, not multiplying. We raise it rather than wait, because the most expensive thing in this market is a plan that quietly does not work.

No statistics we cannot evidence

No satisfaction percentage, no average grade movement, no self-assigned star rating. Several providers in this market publish figures without a sample size, a date or a method, sometimes contradicting themselves on one page.

Official sources linked, never copied

We cite and link Cambridge, Pearson, u.ae, KHDA and MoHRE rather than reproducing papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents. That is both the lawful route and the one that keeps your child looking at the current version.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How do I know whether my child's IGCSE revision classes are actually working?+

Ask for the record rather than the impression. You want dated scripts showing the paper and component, the raw mark against the available mark, and a named error category for each piece. Progress shows as a rise across two separately marked attempts at the same paper format, with the dominant error changing between them. One good score is not progress; students have good days. If the same dominant error appears at weeks one, three, five and seven, the sessions are not addressing the fault and adding hours will not change that.

What error categories should a tutor be recording on my child's IGCSE papers?+

Five cover almost everything at this level. Knowledge gap, where the content was never learned. Method error, where the approach was wrong or working was not shown. Command-term misread, where the student answered a different question from the one asked. Arithmetic or transcription slip. And timing, where questions were not reached at all. Each implies a different intervention, and only the first is solved by teaching more content. The useful signal over four weeks is which category dominates and whether it changes, because that tells you more than the raw mark does.

Why does the tutor keep setting the same IGCSE paper format every week?+

Because a second attempt at the same format is what makes the first one interpretable. A mark on a Paper 2 and a mark on a Paper 4 are not comparable, and a mark on a Cambridge paper is not comparable to one on a Pearson paper, so switching format each week produces data that cannot show a trend. Holding the format constant for three or four attempts lets you see whether the component actually moved. Once it has, the format changes deliberately, to check whether the improvement transfers rather than being specific to one paper.

Which IGCSE series do students in Abu Dhabi sit?+

The June series and the November series. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in June and November, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May and June and again in November. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only, so advice written for an Indian audience about a spring sitting does not apply to a candidate entered in this emirate. Confirm your dates against the live official timetable rather than any restatement of it.

What is the Cambridge zone timetable and why does it matter for my child?+

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a different timetable version for each. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school's exams officer which zone the centre sits in, then work only from that version and discard any other. It is the highest-consequence item in a revision plan, it costs nothing to check, and almost no tutoring page in this market mentions it.

Does it matter whether my child is on Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel for revision?+

It matters more than the subject name does. The specifications differ in paper structure, question style and sometimes in assessment pattern, so Cambridge 0580 past papers are useful content practice and misleading format practice for a Pearson 4MA1 candidate. Get the board, the specification code and the tier in writing from the school for every subject in the plan, then check that the past papers in use match all three. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across an entire cluster of competitor pages researched for this project, which suggests this check is rarely made.

How much does a marked IGCSE paper add to the cost of a revision class?+

It is inside the rate rather than itemised, and it is a real part of what separates the bands. A ninety-minute session plus a full paper marked against the scheme and returned with an error category involves substantial work outside the lesson. Published UAE rates run roughly AED 33-65 an hour at the budget end, where scripts are usually self-marked, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor who marks them, and AED 200-450 and above for specialists. If a quote sits at the bottom of the band, ask who marks the timed work; the answer normally explains the price.

Can a three-session diagnostic block really tell us anything useful?+

Yes, provided the three papers cover different components rather than repeating one. Three marked scripts and a written error analysis establish which component is actually weak, which error category dominates, and whether the problem is one paper or the whole subject. That frequently narrows a planned four-month purchase to a four-session one, or occasionally shows the opposite. At the qualified-tutor band it costs roughly AED 675-1,350 for four and a half hours, which is the cheapest way to avoid committing a term's budget on an assumption.

My child scores well in school tests but badly in timed IGCSE papers. What does that mean?+

Usually that the content is there and the execution is not, which is the easier problem of the two and the one timed practice fixes. School tests are often shorter, sometimes use familiar question wording, and rarely reproduce the full paper's time pressure. The evidence to collect is how many questions were reached, not just how many were right, because an unreached question and a wrong answer look identical in a total. If timing is the dominant category across three marked papers, the plan should be full papers under conditions rather than more teaching.

Is Core or Extended tier the right entry, and does revision change with it?+

The tier decides the content, the papers and the attainable grade ceiling, so it changes the revision entirely. A strong Core mark and a weak Extended mark can describe the same performance, and revising from the wrong tier's past papers makes every marked script uninterpretable. Ask the subject teacher which tier your child is entered for, in writing, and ask when the entry becomes final, because some Abu Dhabi schools revisit tier decisions during Year 11. Then check that the practice papers match. It is a ten-minute task with four months of consequences.

How are IGCSE science practicals handled if the revision is online?+

The practical component or its alternative written paper is a distinct skill with its own question patterns, and it is revisable in writing because that is how it is assessed. What a tutor works on is apparatus description, variable control, table and graph construction, uncertainty and the reasoning the mark scheme wants to see. The physical work itself happens in the school laboratory, under the school's arrangements, and no online session substitutes for it. Confirm with the science department which route your child's specification uses, because leaving that component unrevised is one of the commonest omissions.

Should we add a second weekly session if the marks are not moving?+

Not until you know why they are not moving. If the dominant error category has been identical across four marked attempts, doubling the sessions doubles the cost of not addressing the fault. The right question is what specifically will be different next week, asked as a question about the error category rather than about effort. Sometimes the answer is a different tutor, and we would rather say so than take a second booking. A second session genuinely helps where the record shows timing as the main fault, because that responds to volume of full timed practice.

Can my child revise two IGCSE subjects with one tutor to save money?+

Often yes, and the shared error log is the reason it can work well. Two subjects on alternating weeks produces one data point per subject every fortnight rather than one a week, so trends take longer to read, but the log frequently reveals that one error category, usually command-term misreading or not showing method, is costing marks in both. Fixing it once helps twice. Where one subject has a genuine content gap and the other does not, splitting the plans is better, because alternating weeks is too slow to close a gap.

Do tutors running IGCSE revision in Abu Dhabi need a permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and, according to u.ae, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without one exposes the individual to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule, so no amount should be quoted to you. ADEK licenses and inspects private schools in the emirate and approves no individual tutor.

Can IB Gram tell me what grade my child will get after a revision term?+

No, and no honest provider can. A revision plan changes what a student can retrieve under time, how accurately they read a command term and how they spend the minutes in a paper. It does not produce a predictable grade, and any page offering a guaranteed grade or a percentage improvement is either misunderstanding the assessment or hoping you will not check the arithmetic. We publish no outcome statistics at all, because a figure without the number of students, the date and the method behind it is a claim rather than evidence.

What should we do in the final fortnight before the papers?+

Stop adding content. The last two weeks are for error-pattern drilling on the categories the record identified, light retrieval, logistics and sleep. Confirm the correct zone timetable with the exams officer, check the equipment and the centre arrangements, and reduce session length rather than extending it. Introducing new topics in the final fortnight competes with consolidation and usually costs marks rather than earning them. If the record shows a knowledge gap still dominant at two weeks out, the honest move is to triage which topics are worth the remaining time.

Ask for the record, then decide

If you are choosing IGCSE revision classes in Abu Dhabi, make the record the condition of the purchase. Get the board, specification code, tier, series and Cambridge zone in writing from the school. Then ask any provider for dated scripts with components separated and a named error category on each piece, and ask who marks the timed work. Start with a three-session diagnostic block rather than a term, because it often shows the problem is narrower than it looked. A free trial lesson with the proposed tutor comes first, delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so you see the marking before you commit.
