IGCSE Home Tutor in Sharjah

Searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Sharjah usually means one of two things: a parent who wants a familiar adult at the dining table, or a parent trying to work out what an hour of decent teaching should cost. This page answers the second question with published AED figures, shows the travel arithmetic hidden inside an in-home quote, and is plain about how IB Gram delivers lessons to Sharjah families.

  • Market AED rates published with the provider who quoted them
  • No tutor is sent to a UAE address; delivery is live video

IB & IGCSE in Sharjah

The number in the quote is mostly about distance

An in-home tutoring quote in Sharjah is three things bundled into one hourly figure: the teaching, the travel, and the risk that the traffic makes the journey longer than planned. Parents see one number and compare it against another number, which is why the market looks confusing. Published UAE rates run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the student-tutor end to AED 650 at the named-examiner end, and most of that spread has nothing to do with how well the person knows Cambridge 0580.

The second thing in the quote is the size of the pool it was drawn from. A parent in Tilal City asking for someone who can teach Extended chemistry on a Tuesday at 17:00 is not choosing between every good chemistry teacher in the UAE. They are choosing between the ones who can reach Tilal City by 17:00 and still get home. That filter is applied before any question about teaching quality, and it is the single biggest reason in-home matching produces a generalist at a specialist rate.

The third thing is what actually arrives. A 60-minute slot where the tutor leaves at 16:20 to beat the Maliha Road queue and arrives at 17:10 is not a 60-minute lesson, and nobody writes that down. Families on the Sharjah-Dubai corridor know the pattern: the session shortens quietly over a term, the tutor starts rescheduling, and the arrangement ends without anyone deciding to end it. The parent is rarely told that the reason is the road rather than the child, so the next tutor is hired on the same terms and the same thing happens again in a different living room.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Sharjah address. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and that is stated the same way on every country page on this site rather than buried here. For UAE families the lesson is one-to-one over live video, at the hour it was booked for, with a shared screen and a shared document. The trade is simple and worth stating plainly: you give up a person in the room, and you get a person who has taught the exact paper your child is entered for.

The rest of this page is the arithmetic rather than the argument. What the market charges by tier and format, what a monthly package usually contains, what the permit position is for anyone you hire privately, which cheaper options are worth trying before paying for one-to-one hours at all, and how the Sharjah week and Ramadan change when sessions can realistically happen. Every AED figure here is attributed to whoever published it, and none of them is our price list. Where the cheaper option is the right one, it is named before the expensive one, because a parent who has not asked the school what support is already inside the fee may be paying for an hour that was available at three in the afternoon for nothing.

At a glance

  • Published UAE rates span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour depending on tier and format
  • In-home quotes carry travel and traffic risk inside the hourly figure
  • Distance filters the tutor pool before quality does
  • IB Gram delivers to Sharjah on live video; home visits are India-only
  • Ask what a monthly package includes before comparing it with an hourly rate
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Sharjah schools licensed by the Sharjah Private Education Authority run several routes to a 16-plus qualification, and the route changes both the hours a subject needs and what a tutor can usefully do in them.

CIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years of teaching assessed at the end by externally marked papers. Mathematics and the separate sciences are tiered into Core and Extended, and the tier the school enters a candidate for changes what hours are worth buying: on the Core route the Extended-only topics are not examined, so paying to teach them is money spent on content that will not be tested.

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a timetable per zone, cautioning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong version. Before you commit to a block of sessions timed around a series, ask the Sharjah school's exams officer which zone the centre sits in and work from that timetable.

EDXAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Graded 9-1 and untiered in most subjects, which means no ceiling is set by the entry and no hours are wasted on content outside the paper. Mathematics A is tiered into Foundation and Higher. Practical skills are examined inside the written papers rather than in a separate component, so revision hours go into written method and data handling.

Two series a year, in May/June and November, changes the economics of a block of sessions. A Sharjah family facing a disappointing June grade can plan a November resit a few months later rather than funding a repeat year. The November 2026 International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026.

OLAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge O Level

Some schools in the emirate sit Cambridge O Level rather than IGCSE in particular subjects, and the two are not interchangeable in revision terms even where the content overlaps. Cambridge runs O Level in the same June and November series as IGCSE, so the entry deadlines and the timetable logic are identical.

If a Sharjah school's entries mix O Level and IGCSE across a candidate's subjects, the statement of entry will show it and a tutor needs to know which is which. Paying for IGCSE past papers to prepare an O Level entry is a quiet waste of an hour a week.

P16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Post-16 routes after IGCSE

Sharjah IGCSE leavers go on to International A Levels, the IB Diploma, or a school's own post-16 programme, often moving to a different school and sometimes to a different emirate. Each route assumes content from the harder tier, which is why the tier decision in Year 10 has a price attached two years later.

For budgeting, this is the argument for spending on the Extended or Higher tier content in Year 11 rather than economising. A student who arrives at Higher Level sciences without the Extended foundations needs catch-up hours in Year 12 at a higher specialist rate, which costs more than the Year 11 sessions would have.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects differ in how many hours they typically absorb, and in whether those hours buy content or technique. That is the figure to weigh against a rate, rather than the rate on its own.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The highest-volume request in the emirate and usually the best value per hour, because most of the lost marks sit in a short list of Extended topics plus the discipline of showing method. A defined topic list can be worked through in a countable number of sessions, which makes the spend predictable.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher tier

Two equally weighted calculator papers, so breadth matters more than depth and revision hours spread across the specification rather than concentrating. Ratio, proportional reasoning and the long unstructured questions at the end of each paper absorb the most time.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Hours divide into calculation technique, which is drillable, and organic pathways, which need repetition over weeks. Families who book a short block for chemistry usually get the calculation marks and should expect the pathway work to run longer.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

The cheapest marks in the subject sit in the practical component, because students prepare for it last and it rewards knowing how a method is written rather than new content. A block of four to six sessions aimed only at that paper often moves more marks than a term of general physics.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Content-heavy rather than conceptually hard, so hours go into definitions, data interpretation and structuring extended answers. This is the subject where independent work between sessions changes the cost most, because the recall can be done without a tutor present.

Cambridge IGCSE First Language English 0500

Single tier

Marking is the expensive part. Progress comes from a tutor reading and annotating full responses against the published criteria, which takes time outside the session, so ask whether marking is included in the hourly rate or charged separately.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Single tier

Application to the stimulus case is the whole grade, and it is a technique rather than a body of knowledge. Short blocks work well here: four sessions of marked case-study practice shifts more than a term of content revision.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455

Single tier

Diagram work and evaluation paragraphs are the two cost centres. Students who can draw a diagram but not use it in an argument need modelling rather than content, which is quick; students missing the micro foundations need longer.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Single tier

Unusually predictable in hours. Binary and data representation, trace tables and pseudocode discipline account for most lost marks and each is drillable, so a tutor should be able to quote a realistic session count at the start.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1

Untiered

Untiered, so no hours are spent on content outside the paper and the full 9-1 range stays open. Equation selection, unit conversion and the longer written explanations absorb the time, particularly for students arriving from a tiered Cambridge course.

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Single tier

A narrow specialism and the subject where Sharjah availability is thinnest at short notice. Budget for a longer search and expect a specialist rate rather than a general maths rate, because the calculus and trigonometric identity work needs someone who teaches it regularly.

Arabic as a first and additional language

IGCSE and school programmes

Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, so this runs alongside an IGCSE timetable rather than inside it. Hours here are usually about keeping a mandatory subject from eating revision time, not about a target grade.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE support, ordered by what they cost rather than by what we would prefer to sell. All three are delivered one-to-one on live video.

A single diagnostic block

Three or four sessions with no commitment beyond them, used to establish what is actually wrong before any term-length spend. One marked past paper, a mapped list of gaps and a written estimate of how many sessions each gap needs. For families watching the budget this is the cheapest useful purchase available and often the only one needed.

  • Fixed small number of sessions, no ongoing commitment
  • Ends with a written gap list and a session estimate
  • Enough to decide whether to spend more, and where
  • Includes one past paper marked to the official scheme

Weekly one-to-one through the term

One hour a week on one syllabus code, held at the same time so it survives a busy term. This is the shape that suits a content gap: repeated contact beats intensity when the student has material to learn rather than technique to fix. The cost is predictable, and the review date is agreed when the slot is booked.

  • One subject, one code, one fixed slot
  • Written note after each session
  • A review date set before the first lesson
  • Hours redirected if the marks stop moving

Exam-season intensive before a series

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before June or November, built around full papers under timing rather than around content delivery. The most expensive way to buy hours per week and the most effective when the gap is technique, which is why it works for Year 11 and rarely for Year 9.

  • Full papers under exam conditions, marked and returned
  • Two or three subjects spread across the week, never stacked
  • Priority set by movable marks, not by the student's preference
  • Ends when the series starts, with no rolling commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What IGCSE tutoring costs in this market, in AED

Nobody ranking for this search publishes a rate table, which is why parents in Sharjah end up phoning five providers to build one. The figures below are the published rates of named UAE providers, with the tier each belongs to. They are the market, not our price list, and they are useful mainly as a sanity check: a quote well outside these bands needs explaining before it is accepted.

At the bottom of the market, EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. At those rates the tutor is typically a university student or an early-career teacher, which can be entirely adequate for Year 9 consolidation and is not adequate for Extended chemistry eight weeks before a series. The middle band, a qualified subject tutor working online, runs roughly AED 150-300; Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200.

In-home one-to-one sits higher because the travel is inside the number. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home sessions at roughly AED 180-350, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500. Specialist IGCSE, IB and A-Level tutors are quoted at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and the premium end reaches AED 650, where BartyED sits. The whole spread is a factor of nearly twenty, and most families are choosing inside the middle third of it.

Two warnings go with any table like this. First, these figures were published by the providers named and carry their framing, not ours; rates change and should be checked at source. Second, an hourly rate is not a cost. Six sessions of a specialist at AED 300 that close a named gap is cheaper than a term of AED 100 sessions that do not, and that comparison is the only one worth making.

02

The travel arithmetic hidden inside an in-home quote

Take a tutor living in central Sharjah and a family in Tilal City. The drive is 25 minutes at 11:00 and can be 45 at 17:00, each way. For a 60-minute session the tutor is committing somewhere between two and two and a half hours. That is why in-home rates sit above online rates: the second hour is being paid for whether or not anyone mentions it. The honest version of an in-home quote is an hourly rate for the teaching plus an unwritten fee for the road.

The consequence is not only financial. A tutor with three in-home clients in one evening has to fit them geographically rather than pedagogically, which is why in-home slots are offered as take-it-or-leave-it times. Families in Al Suyoh and Al Rahmaniya hear this most: the only slot available is the one that fits the route, not the one that fits the student's energy or the school bus.

It also sets a hard limit on who is available at all. A specialist in Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 may live in Dubai, in Abu Dhabi, or outside the country. For an in-home arrangement that person is simply not an option, however well they teach the subject. The parent is left choosing between a general maths tutor who can drive to the villa and no tutor at all, and the choice is usually made without anyone naming it.

On the east coast the arithmetic stops working entirely. A weekly drive to Khor Fakkan or Kalba from the city is not a sustainable commitment at any sensible rate, which is why families there have historically had the thinnest options in the emirate. Removing the journey is the only thing that changes that, and it changes it completely: the same shortlist becomes available on the coast as on the corniche.

Tutoring cost in context for a Sharjah family

An hourly rate means little without the annual picture. School fees are the dominant number in any UAE education budget, and the tutoring decision is usually a small percentage change on top of a fee that was already set. Worth knowing for context: the Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Fees in Sharjah are approved by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for the emirate.

Against that, weekly tutoring in one subject is a known quantity. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Two subjects doubles it. A short exam-season intensive concentrates the same money into six weeks rather than spreading it over a year, which is often the better purchase for a Year 11 student and a worse one for a Year 9.

There is a cost most families forget: entry fees if a candidate sits a paper privately rather than through their school. A resit arranged outside the school's entry is paid for separately and booked through a centre, with its own deadlines. Before planning a November resit as the cheap option, ask the school whether it will enter the candidate and what that costs, because the answer changes the budget more than the tutoring rate does.

The useful habit is to decide the total before choosing the rate. A family that knows it can spend a fixed amount this term can ask a sensible question: what is the best use of this budget? Sometimes the answer is twelve sessions in one subject. Sometimes it is four diagnostic sessions and a reallocation. It is almost never thirty sessions spread thinly across four subjects, which is the pattern panic produces.

Hiring privately in Sharjah: the permit and the questions

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No published fine schedule exists; distrust any specific figure
  • Apply through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system
  • Avoid paying your child's own school teacher for private lessons
  • Ask what arrives after each session before you ask about the rate

If you engage a tutor directly rather than through a platform, you are the one checking the paperwork. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

Two details are worth holding onto. The permit costs nothing, so a tutor charging you for the administrative cost of holding one is charging for air. And no fine schedule has been published: a figure circulating online as the penalty could not be verified, so treat any specific amount quoted at you as unverified. The official application route is MoHRE's own service, "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a stated completion time of two working days.

There is one arrangement to avoid regardless of paperwork. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. Treat the ADEK detail as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document, but the direction is clear: paying your child's own class teacher for private lessons is the arrangement most likely to create a problem for everyone, including the child.

Beyond the permit, the questions that actually predict a good term are mundane. What have you taught of this exact paper? What will you send me after each session? What happens if we cancel? Is marking of full papers included? What would make you tell me to stop paying for this? A tutor who answers all five crisply is usually worth more than one who answers none of them and quotes less.

05

Cheaper things to try before buying one-to-one hours

  • Ask the school what subject support is already inside the fee
  • Awarding bodies publish past papers and mark schemes on their own sites
  • A small group lowers the rate per student and fixes the pace
  • One-to-one earns its rate on named gaps and exam technique
  • A diagnostic block is cheaper than a term bought on a hunch

One-to-one tutoring is the most expensive intervention available, and for a reasonable number of Sharjah students it is not the first one needed. Schools licensed by the Sharjah Private Education Authority generally run subject clinics, catch-up sessions or departmental support, and those are already paid for inside the fee. A parent who has not asked the head of department what support exists is often paying for an hour that was available free at 15:00.

Past papers and mark schemes are published by the awarding bodies on their own sites, and a student who works through them with the mark scheme beside them picks up a surprising amount of the technique a tutor would otherwise teach. We reference and link those official sources rather than reproducing them, because reproducing an awarding body's papers or mark schemes is a copyright matter. The point for a budget is that the raw material costs nothing.

Group teaching is the middle option. A small group at a tuition centre divides the hour between students and the rate per student falls accordingly, which suits consolidation and does not suit a student who needs the pace set to them. Where a group works, it works well for the price; where the student's problem is specific, the group's pace becomes the problem.

Where one-to-one is genuinely the right purchase is narrow and recognisable: a named gap that classroom teaching keeps missing, a tier or entry decision that needs expert input, a component paper nobody has taught properly, or an exam-season technique problem with a deadline attached. If your situation is one of those, buy the hours. If it is not, the diagnostic block is the honest first spend.

06

The Sharjah week, Ramadan and when sessions can actually happen

A tutoring plan that ignores the shape of the local week fails quietly. Sharjah's school week and the Dubai commute together compress the usable evening into a narrow band, and the band is different for a child at a school five minutes away in Muwaileh and a child crossing to Al Qusais from Al Nahda. The first can start at 16:00; the second often cannot start honestly before 18:00. Booking the wrong one produces a tired student and a cancelled session on the third week.

Ramadan changes it again. School hours shorten, family routines move towards the evening, and the sensible pattern for many households is sessions after Iftar or earlier in the afternoon rather than in the late-afternoon slot that works the rest of the year. Families who plan this in advance keep continuity through the month; families who do not usually lose three or four weeks and then try to buy them back closer to the series at a worse rate.

The academic calendar matters as much as the daily one. Mock examinations, school internal deadlines and the entry deadlines for a series all land before the papers do, and the useful tutoring weeks are the ones before those milestones rather than after. A block booked immediately after mock results is reacting; a block booked eight weeks before them is preparing, and costs the same.

Travel disrupts the rest. Families moving between Sharjah and another country during school holidays can keep a video slot running from wherever they are, with the hour adjusted for the time difference. That continuity is worth real money in an exam year: the alternative is pausing in December, resuming in January and paying to recover ground that was never lost in the first place.

07

Why we deliver this on live video rather than at your address

This is the part of the page that needs saying without hedging. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and that position is stated identically on every country page on the site. The search term you used is the phrase parents type, and it describes a real market with real prices, set out above. What we sell into that market is a one-to-one lesson over live video.

The case for it is not that video is as good as a person in the room. It is that the thing a family is actually buying is a specialist in a component, and distance is what prevents them having one. A parent in Al Rahmaniya who wants someone who teaches Pearson 4CH1 written practical questions every week is choosing from a handful of reachable people, or from everyone. That is the trade, and for IGCSE work it is a favourable one.

There is also a transparency argument. Two of the providers researched for this page route UAE parents to a non-UAE phone number without saying where the teaching happens; one shows a Dubai address on an Abu Dhabi page. Saying plainly that delivery is online, from wherever the right specialist sits, is a smaller claim than those pages make and a true one. We would rather be judged on it than hide it behind a local-sounding number.

What the format gives you in practice is evidence. The marked paper is on screen for both people, the working is on a shared surface, the session leaves a document you can read afterwards, and a written note follows. A parent who was not in the room can still see what happened. That is harder to get from a tutor who worked in a closed study for an hour and left.

08

Getting started when the budget is fixed

Start by naming the number. A family that knows it can spend a set amount this term gets better advice than one that asks what things cost, because the question becomes a plan rather than a price list. Tell us the budget, the subject, the board and the tier, and the answer should be a recommendation about how to spend it, including the option of spending less than offered.

Then send the two documents that make the first session useful: the statement of entry from the school's exams officer, which carries the board, the syllabus code and the tier, and one piece of marked work. Those two things remove a paid hour of guesswork. Parents frequently send a school report instead, which describes the symptom without showing where the marks went.

Take the free trial lesson next. One session, one subject, at no charge, before any schedule or block is agreed. The test of a trial is specificity: at the end of it the tutor should be able to name what is costing marks, estimate the sessions a named gap needs, and say what the first three weeks will cover. Warmth without specifics is not a diagnosis.

Then hold the arrangement to a review date set in advance, and be willing to stop. If three reviews pass with no movement in the marks, adding hours is rarely the answer; changing the plan or the tutor usually is. Where no suitable specialist is available for a narrow subject, we say so and offer a date, an alternative time zone, or the advice that the money is better spent on a different subject this term.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

Travel time is the hidden line in every in-home quote, and in Sharjah it varies more by hour than by distance. These are the areas IGCSE enquiries come from, with what the journey does to a weekday session.

Al Nahda

Pressed against the Dubai border, with a heavy share of children at Al Qusais and Mirdif schools. A visiting tutor crossing at 16:30 can lose 40 minutes each way, and that cost sits inside whatever hourly figure gets quoted.

Al Taawun

Short distances, unpredictable timings. Journeys here fail by minutes rather than by miles, so an arrangement that cannot absorb a half-hour shift tends not to survive a term.

Al Majaz

Lagoon-side apartment blocks where parking is the specific obstacle for a visiting tutor. Families here are often the first to try a video slot simply because the logistics are easier.

Muwaileh

A schools cluster, so journeys are short but pick-up congestion is concentrated into a narrow window. A 16:30 start works; a 15:45 start rarely does.

Tilal City

Newer villa plots on the southern side where in-home rates come in higher because the journey is long in both directions. This is where the distance premium in a quote is most visible.

Al Suyoh

Expanding residential land with limited nearby schooling, so children travel further to school and arrive home later. Sessions here work better after 18:00 or at the weekend.

Al Rahmaniya

Villa communities with a long run to the central Sharjah schools. Families often ask for two subjects on one evening, which usually works less well than two shorter sessions on separate days.

Khor Fakkan

On the east coast, where the in-home tutoring market thins out almost completely and a visiting tutor from the city is not a realistic weekly arrangement. Live video removes the geography entirely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

The British-curriculum core of the emirate

Schools with large Year 10 and Year 11 cohorts sitting Cambridge or Pearson papers. Enquiries from these families are usually about a specific subject and a specific tier rather than about general support, and they come with marked work attached.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy
  • Wesgreen International School

Central and northern Sharjah

Long-established private schools near the old city and the lagoon, with mixed curricula and some O Level entries alongside IGCSE. Price sensitivity is highest in this group, which makes the cheaper options worth exhausting first.

  • Delta English School
  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah
  • The Millennium School, Sharjah
  • Al Maarifa International Private School
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah

Children schooled across the Dubai border

Sharjah-resident families whose children are enrolled in Dubai. For this group the in-home option is the most expensive version of itself, because the tutor is paying for the same crossing the school bus already made.

  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • The Westminster School, Dubai
  • Our Own English High School, Al Warqa'a
  • American School of Creative Science, Sharjah
  • Deira International School

School names appear here as local context only. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school listed, and each name should be checked against the regulator's own published school listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the budget before the subject

Say what you can spend this term and we will say what it buys, including the option of a short diagnostic block rather than a term of sessions. A fixed figure produces a plan; an open question produces a price list.

  2. 02

Send the statement of entry and one marked paper

Board, syllabus code, tier and paper numbers sit on one page from the school's exams officer. With a marked paper beside it, the first session starts on teaching rather than on working out what your child is entered for.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One session, one subject, at no charge, before any block or schedule is agreed. Judge it on whether the tutor names the gap and estimates the sessions it needs, not on how reassuring the half hour felt.

  4. 04

Choose the slot the week can survive

For Dubai-schooled children in Al Nahda or Al Taawun that usually means 18:00 or a weekend morning. Picking the ideal hour rather than the robust one is why arrangements fail in week three.

  5. 05

Review on a date fixed in advance

Agree when you will look again and what you will look at: a marked paper, the session notes, a topic list closed off. Reviewing against a baseline is what stops a term of spending drifting unexamined.

  6. 06

Stop or redirect when the evidence says so

If the marks have not moved across three reviews, more hours is the least likely fix. Changing the plan, the subject priority or the tutor is usually the cheaper and more honest response.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates published with their source

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider who published it and dated. We do not present other people's prices as ours, and we do not publish a rate card we would then have to defend on 2,654 pages.

Plain about delivery

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one on live video. No tutor is sent to a Sharjah address, and home visits are a service we run only in India. The same sentence appears on every country page on this site.

The cheaper option gets mentioned first

School subject clinics, official past papers and small-group teaching are all cheaper than one-to-one. Where one of them fits your situation better, we say so before quoting for hours.

Matched on the component, not the postcode

Tutors are shortlisted against the specification code and the paper your child is entered for. Removing the drive is what makes that possible rather than aspirational.

Coursework stays the student's own work

Where an IGCSE subject carries coursework, a tutor teaches the skills, questions the plan and comments on a draft the student has written. Nothing is produced for the student to submit.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

What does an in-home IGCSE tutor cost per hour in Sharjah compared with online?+

Published UAE figures put in-home one-to-one, with travel included, at roughly AED 180-500 an hour: Bestimate's rate table shows AED 180-350 and independent home tutors are quoted up to AED 500. A qualified subject tutor working online is published at roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. The gap is largely travel and traffic risk rather than teaching quality. Those are other providers' published rates as of October 2026, not IB Gram's price list; check them at source before relying on them.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our villa in Sharjah?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For Sharjah families every lesson is one-to-one over live video, at the hour you book, with a shared screen and a shared working document. The reason is the tutor pool: removing the drive means your child can be matched with someone who teaches their exact syllabus code and component rather than with whoever can reach your address at 17:00 on a Tuesday.

Should we buy a monthly IGCSE package or pay by the session?+

Only if you divide it. Packages seen in this market include online plans from around AED 799 a month for eight sessions and in-home plans at AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour sessions. Dividing gives you the real hourly figure, which is the only number comparable with an hourly quote. Then ask the questions packages tend to obscure: what happens to an unused session, whether marking of full papers is included, and whether the rate holds if you reduce to one subject.

Why is an in-home tutor in Tilal City or Al Suyoh quoted higher than one in Al Majaz?+

Distance. A tutor driving to the southern communities is committing two hours or more for a 60-minute session once the return journey is counted, and that time is inside the hourly figure whether or not it is itemised. The same effect decides which slot you are offered: a tutor with three visits in an evening arranges them by route rather than by what time suits your child. On live video neither the premium nor the route constraint applies.

What should I ask a private tutor before paying for a block of sessions?+

Five questions predict the term better than the rate does. What have you taught of this exact paper, not just this subject? What will I receive after each session? Is marking of full past papers included or charged separately? What is the cancellation position? And what would make you tell me to stop paying for this? A tutor who answers all five crisply is usually worth more than a cheaper one who answers none. Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit too.

Do I need to check a permit if I hire a tutor directly in Sharjah?+

Yes, and it costs you nothing to ask. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so be wary of any specific amount quoted at you as the penalty.

Is there anything cheaper than one-to-one worth trying first?+

Usually, yes. Ask the head of department what subject support the school already runs inside the fee, because catch-up clinics and departmental sessions are commonly available and commonly unused. Awarding bodies publish past papers and mark schemes on their own sites, and a student working through them with the scheme alongside picks up much of the technique a tutor would teach. A small group at a centre lowers the rate per student. One-to-one earns its price on a named gap, a tier decision or an exam-technique problem with a deadline.

How many IGCSE sessions should I budget for one weak topic?+

Ask for a number, and be suspicious if you do not get one. A single named topic, such as moles or vectors or trace tables, is usually a small countable block followed by practice. Exam technique across a paper is a few weeks. Two years of accumulated gaps across a whole specification is a termly project and should be described as one. Any tutor who has seen one marked paper should be able to tell you which of the three you are in and roughly what it costs.

Does the quoted rate include VAT?+

Ask directly, and ask for the answer in writing on the quote. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general fact on these pages, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority and the provider's own tax position rather than for a tutoring page. What matters to you is whether the figure you were given is the figure you pay, and that is a fair question to put to any tutor or agency before a block is booked.

How should tutoring be scheduled during Ramadan in Sharjah?+

Plan it before the month starts. School hours shorten, household routines move later, and the late-afternoon slot that works the rest of the year often stops working. The patterns that hold are a session after Iftar or one earlier in the afternoon, agreed in advance and kept. Families who leave it until the first week usually lose three or four weeks of continuity and then pay to recover the ground closer to the series, which costs more than planning around it would have.

Can my child keep lessons going while we travel over the holidays?+

Yes, which is one of the practical advantages of video delivery in an exam year. The slot moves with the time difference rather than stopping, so a family spending December abroad does not come back in January needing to recover a month. For a Year 11 student, continuity through the holidays is often worth more than the same number of sessions bought in a rush in April, and it costs the same.

We are on a tight budget and three subjects are weak. What do we buy?+

A diagnostic block, then a decision. Get one marked paper in each subject and look at where the lost marks sit rather than at the grades. A subject losing marks to technique or unshown method can move quickly and is worth the hours. A subject missing two years of content will not move much this term, and funding it costs you the grade you could have saved elsewhere. Spreading a small budget thinly across three subjects is the one approach that reliably buys nothing.

Where does a tutor stop on an IGCSE coursework piece in Sharjah?+

Within a clear boundary, yes. A tutor can teach the skills the task assesses, question the plan, point out an unsupported argument and give feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor must not produce material that will be submitted, rewrite a draft into its finished form, or supply content to copy. The student writes and submits the work. A tutor who offers anything more than that is creating a malpractice risk for your child, not a shortcut.

What do you do when no specialist covers my child's IGCSE subject?+

You get told, with a date or an alternative, rather than placed with a generalist. Narrow subjects are where this bites: Additional Mathematics 0606 at short notice, Accounting, a minority language, or a specification a school has just switched to. The options we offer are a wait with a named date, a tutor in another time zone whose hours work from Sharjah, or honest advice that the hours are better spent on a subject where the marks are more movable this term.

Does the free trial lesson have conditions attached?+

It is one lesson, in one subject, at no charge, and it happens before any schedule, block or payment plan is agreed. There is no obligation to continue afterwards. What we ask for beforehand is the statement of entry and one piece of marked work, because without those the hour goes on working out what your child is entered for instead of on teaching. If the trial ends without a specific diagnosis, that tells you something useful about the tutor.

Tell us the budget, not just the subject

Most families who arrive on this page are weighing an hourly figure against another hourly figure with no way to judge either. The figures above are what the UAE market publishes, attributed to whoever published them. What we provide is one-to-one IGCSE teaching on live video for Sharjah families, matched on the syllabus code and component rather than on the drive radius, with a written note after every session. Send the statement of entry, one marked paper and the amount you can spend this term, and we will come back with a plan and a free trial lesson in one subject.
