Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 Tutor in Sharjah

A Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor in Sharjah is quoted by the market at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online, and more once a car and a travel slot are priced in. This page publishes those bands with their sources, names the things that push a Sharjah quote up or down, and maps the money onto the six 0610 components so you can see what you are buying. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Market rates published in AED with the source named beside each band
  • All six 0610 components mapped to duration, marks and weighting
  • One-to-one over live video, timed to Sharjah school nights on GST

What 0610 biology help costs in Sharjah, before anyone quotes you

Start with the number, because that is the question. Across the UAE market a qualified biology tutor working online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour. Unitors, the only agency in this search result that publishes a rate at all, lists IGCSE support from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist exam-board work. Budget providers go lower: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to AED 52 an hour. Once a tutor drives to a villa in Al Majaz or an apartment in Al Nahda, Bestimate's Dubai rate table for 2026 puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors ask AED 200 to AED 500. Those are market figures, attributed, not an IB Gram price list.

Three of the six pages currently ranking for biology tutoring queries in this region publish no price whatsoever, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Sharjah family budgets in. A page that will not answer the first question a parent asks is not being discreet; it is making you ring a sales line to find out. So the rate table two screens down is the first thing on this page, with the provider model in one column and the source of each figure in another.

The second thing worth knowing is that the hourly rate is the least interesting part of the cost. A 0610 candidate sitting the Extended route takes Paper 2, Paper 4 and then either Paper 5 or Paper 6. That is three separately weighted components, and the practical component carries twenty per cent of the grade on its own. Buying twenty hours of general biology revision and never touching experimental design is how families spend AED 4,000 and watch the grade move by nothing. The useful question is not what an hour costs but which component the hour is aimed at.

Sharjah shifts the arithmetic in ways a generic Dubai page will not tell you. A large number of families living in Al Nahda, Al Taawun and Al Majaz send children to schools across the border in Dubai, and the Sharjah to Dubai evening return is the reason a 4pm slot is fiction for many households. Tutors who drive are pricing that commute into the rate whether or not they itemise it. An online slot at 7.30pm after Maghrib costs the family nothing in travel and costs the tutor nothing in travel, which is the single clearest reason online rates sit below in-home rates in this emirate.

Private schools in Sharjah are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate and, along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That matters to a tutoring budget because the school's fee is the larger number on the same household spreadsheet, and because the subject your child sits is set by the school's Cambridge entry, not by a tutor's preference. Everything on this page is built around that order of operations: find out what the school has entered, work out which component is weakest, then price the hours.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0610 does not sit on its own. A Sharjah student arrives at IGCSE biology from a middle-school programme and leaves it for a sixth-form route, and the price of tutoring changes at each boundary. These are the stages either side of the syllabus this page is about.

IGCSEAges 14–16 · Years 10–11

Cambridge IGCSE (Years 10–11)

The two years in which 0610 is taught and examined. Schools enter candidates for either the Core route or the Extended route, and that decision usually lands in Year 10. Core caps the available grades; Extended opens the top grades but adds supplement content across every topic, from transport in plants to selection and evolution. Most tutoring demand in Sharjah concentrates in the second half of Year 11.

Sharjah's private schools follow a range of curricula under SPEA, and the British-curriculum schools in Muwaileh, Al Ruqa Al Hamra and University City are where Cambridge IGCSE entries cluster. Ask the school office which route your child is entered for and which series, June or November. A tutor cannot plan a 0610 programme without those two facts, and the answer is written on the entry, not on the report card.

LOWER SECAges 11–14 · Years 7–9

Cambridge Lower Secondary science

The three years before 0610 begins. Science is usually taught as one combined subject, with biology, chemistry and physics interleaved rather than separated. Checkpoint tests sit in March, May and October. Students who arrive in Year 10 without the habit of writing a reason after a statement are the ones who lose Paper 4 marks later, because the command word 'explain' is worth more than the command word 'state'.

Several Sharjah schools run a transition year where science splits into three subjects partway through Year 9. Families in Al Qasimia and Halwan often ask whether to start tutoring then. The honest answer for most students is no: the cheaper intervention is a term of writing practice in September of Year 10, before the 0610 content load makes everything feel urgent and before the exam-year rate inflation described further down this page.

A LEVELAges 16–18 · Years 12–13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Biology

Where a strong 0610 grade leads. AS and A Level biology assumes fluency in the Extended material, particularly cell structure, transport, enzymes and genetics, and it assumes a student can design an experiment without being told what the variables are. The jump catches out candidates who scored well on 0610 multiple choice and poorly on the practical components, because that balance reverses at A Level.

Sharjah families aiming at medicine or dentistry in the Gulf or the UK are usually working to an A Level biology plus chemistry combination, and the Year 11 to Year 12 summer is when the gap shows. Tutoring priced at the specialist band of AED 200 to AED 450 and above, per Bestimate's 2026 figures, is normally aimed at this stage rather than at 0610.

IB DPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

IB Diploma Programme Biology

The other common post-IGCSE route, offered by a smaller number of Sharjah schools. DP biology adds an internally assessed investigation the student designs and writes themselves, which changes what a tutor is allowed to do: coaching the process and giving feedback on the student's own draft is permitted, producing any part of the work is not. The content overlap with 0610 Extended is real but the assessment culture is different.

Victoria International School of Sharjah is the emirate's most visible IB school, and some families move from a British-curriculum IGCSE into an IB Diploma at a different school entirely. If that is the plan, the 0610 topics worth over-investing in are genetics, ecology and the data-handling skills in Paper 4, because all three recur immediately in DP year one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Biology 0610 is the subject on this page, but almost no Sharjah family books one subject. These are the IGCSE subjects most often requested alongside it, with what each one actually assesses and the point at which marks tend to go missing.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Six components, of which a candidate sits three. The practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper carries twenty per cent. Marks are lost most often on experimental design, on graph work where the axes are chosen badly, and on explanation questions answered with a description instead of a mechanism.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

The usual second science. Moles and stoichiometry are where the grade is decided, and the practical paper mirrors 0610's in structure, so a student who can plan a biology investigation usually transfers that skill. Organic chemistry nomenclature is the common late-stage gap.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Formula selection and unit discipline decide most grades. Candidates who are strong in biology often struggle here because physics rewards rearranging an equation under pressure rather than recalling a labelled process. Electricity and waves are the two topics most frequently requested.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

From the 2025 series the papers split into a non-calculator paper and a calculator paper at both tiers. That change matters to biology candidates too, because the arithmetic in a magnification or rate-of-reaction calculation has to be done without a calculator in some school assessments.

Combined Science (0653)

Core and Extended

One grade covering all three sciences, chosen by students who need breadth rather than depth. The biology content is a reduced version of 0610, so a tutor working across both has to be precise about which syllabus statements are in scope. Entering the wrong syllabus is a surprisingly common and expensive error.

English as a First Language (0500)

Single tier

Reading and writing across two examined papers, with an optional coursework portfolio route. Biology candidates who lose marks for vague explanation often have a writing problem rather than a biology problem, and the two subjects respond to the same fix: say the mechanism, in order, with the connectives.

Economics (0455)

Single tier

A multiple-choice paper and a structured paper, weighted thirty and seventy per cent. Popular as a fourth or fifth option in Sharjah's British-curriculum schools. The diagram work and the evaluation language are the two things tutoring usually targets.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Two papers of equal weight, the second a case study issued in the exam room. Application to the given business is where candidates leak marks, writing textbook definitions when the question wanted the figures from the case.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Computer systems in one paper, algorithms and programming in the other. Cambridge pseudocode conventions are examined, so a student who codes fluently in Python can still underperform on the written paper.

Arabic as a First Language (0508)

Single tier

Sat alongside the international curriculum because Arabic is a mandatory subject in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. Reading comprehension and formal writing registers are the common tutoring requests, and schools organise first-language and additional-language groups separately.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Sharjah family buys 0610 help, with what each actually costs in hours and attention. All three are delivered over live video; the difference is the shape of the commitment, not the delivery method.

Weekly one-to-one, term-long

A fixed slot each week through the school year, usually sixty or ninety minutes. The tutor follows the school's scheme of work, marks a set of past-paper questions between sessions and reports what moved. This is the cheapest route per mark gained because nothing is wasted re-diagnosing the same gap, and it is the format most Sharjah families choose from September of Year 11.

  • Same tutor, same slot, rebooked each term
  • Marking between lessons, not inside the paid hour
  • A written note after every session naming the next target
  • Pauses for school holidays and the exam fortnight itself

Component-targeted block

A short series aimed at one weak component, most often Paper 6 or the Extended data-handling questions in Paper 4. Six to ten lessons, booked as a block, with a diagnostic paper first and a timed paper at the end. Families use this when the overall grade is acceptable but one component is dragging it down, and it is a far cheaper purchase than a full year of general revision.

  • Starts with a marked past paper, not with a conversation
  • Every lesson aimed at one named syllabus section
  • Timed conditions from the halfway point onwards
  • Ends with a before-and-after comparison on the same paper type

Pre-series intensive

A concentrated run in the weeks before the June or November Cambridge series, including the Ramadan and Eid break where the series falls after it. Sessions are longer and more frequent, built around full timed papers and examiner-style feedback. Market rates rise closer to exams across the whole sector, so booking an intensive in January for a June series is usually cheaper than booking it in April.

  • Full papers under exam timing, marked to the published mark scheme
  • Session timing shifted after Iftar during Ramadan on request
  • Focus narrowed to the components actually being sat
  • A written triage list of topics to abandon when time runs short

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What the Sharjah market charges for IGCSE biology support, in AED

A qualified biology tutor working online in the UAE is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour as of October 2026. Below that band sit university-student and budget-platform tutors from about AED 45 an hour; above it sit subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and premium named tutors above AED 500. In-home delivery adds a travel premium that the published figures put at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour. Each figure in the table is attributed to the provider or rate survey that published it.

Read the table by provider model rather than by brand. The thing that separates a AED 60 lesson from a AED 270 lesson is rarely the subject knowledge in the room, because a biology graduate knows the Core syllabus perfectly well. It is whether anything happens between the lessons. At the budget end you buy sixty minutes of talking. At the specialist end you buy sixty minutes plus a marked set of Paper 4 questions, a note on which syllabus statements were missed and a plan for the following week. Both are defensible purchases; they are not the same purchase.

Monthly packages are common in this market and worth comparing carefully. Published examples include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Divide before you decide: the first works out near AED 100 an hour, the second near AED 200 to AED 225. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

IB Gram does not publish a fixed AED rate on this page, and a page that quoted one without knowing the component, the route and the number of weeks left would be guessing. What we do publish is the trial: one free trial lesson per student, no card details collected before it, and the tutor's subject history shown in advance. The rate for a continuing programme is agreed after that lesson, once there is a diagnosis to price against.

Seven things that move a 0610 quote in this emirate specifically

Two Sharjah families can receive quotes AED 120 apart for the same subject in the same week, and the difference is almost never arbitrary. Seven variables account for most of the spread, and six of the seven are things a parent can influence before asking for a price. The table sets out the direction and the rough size of each effect.

Timing is the largest lever. Demand for biology tutoring in the Gulf peaks between January and the start of the June Cambridge series, and rates follow demand in any market. A family that books a weekly slot in September pays the standing rate; a family that calls in April is buying from a shrinking pool of available hours, often at a premium, and is also buying less time to work with. The cheapest exam-year decision available to a Sharjah parent is made in the autumn term.

Geography is the second lever, and it only bites on in-home delivery. A tutor quoting for a villa in Al Dhaid or an apartment in Kalba is quoting for three or four hours of their evening, not one, and the rate reflects that honestly. Online delivery removes the variable: a student in Khor Fakkan and a student in Al Majaz are quoted the same, and both are matched from the same pool of 0610 specialists rather than from whoever happens to live within a twenty-minute drive.

The remaining levers are about scope. Core and Extended are different syllabuses in practice and the Extended route needs more hours. A practical component is slower to fix than a recall gap because it needs the student to produce written plans that someone then marks. Two siblings in consecutive slots is cheaper per child than two separate bookings. And a tutor asked to cover biology and chemistry in one hour is being asked to do neither properly, which usually costs more in the end than booking two shorter sessions.

03

The six components of 0610, and which three your child will sit

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 is assessed through six components, and no candidate sits all six. A Core candidate takes Paper 1, Paper 3 and then either Paper 5 or Paper 6. An Extended candidate takes Paper 2, Paper 4 and then either Paper 5 or Paper 6. The school decides the route and decides whether the cohort sits the practical test or the written alternative, and both decisions are made before a parent is usually told about them. Confirm the current component structure and the school's entry on cambridgeinternational.org and with the exams officer.

The weightings are the part families misjudge. The theory paper carries half the grade, the multiple-choice paper thirty per cent and the practical component twenty per cent. Twenty per cent is a grade boundary and a half. A candidate who can recite the whole syllabus and has never drawn a results table with the independent variable in the first column is throwing away a fifth of the marks before the paper starts. That is also the component most easily fixed by tutoring, because it is a set of conventions rather than a body of knowledge.

Paper 5 and Paper 6 are not interchangeable in how they are prepared for even though they carry the same weight. Paper 5 is a timed practical in a laboratory with apparatus in front of the candidate; Paper 6 is a written paper about practical work, where the candidate plans investigations, completes tables, plots graphs and comments on sources of error. Paper 6 is entirely teachable over video, because the whole task is on paper. Paper 5 preparation online concentrates on the recording, the processing and the written commentary, with the handling practice done in the school laboratory where it belongs.

This table is the reference a parent can take to a school meeting. It is also the reason this page does not sell a flat package of hours: a Core candidate two terms out with a weak Paper 6 and an Extended candidate six weeks out with a weak Paper 4 are two different jobs, needing different numbers of hours at the same hourly rate.

Where 0610 marks actually go missing

  • 'Explain' answered as 'describe' — the single largest recurring loss across both theory papers
  • Water potential and transport questions answered as states rather than gradients
  • Punnett squares drawn without defining the allele symbols used
  • Results tables without units in the column headings
  • Graph axes chosen so the data occupies a corner of the grid
  • Conclusions that repeat the readings instead of answering the question asked

Biology looks like a memory subject and is marked like a reasoning subject. The most common script pattern in this syllabus is a candidate who knows the content, writes a description where the question asked for an explanation, and collects half the available marks. 'Describe' wants what happens. 'Explain' wants why, in causal order, with each step earning its own mark. A tutor who marks a dozen of your child's answers to that command word will change the grade faster than one who re-teaches the topic.

Osmosis, water potential and transport in plants produce more lost marks than any other Extended topic in this syllabus, because the answers depend on direction of movement and on stating a gradient rather than a state. Genetics loses marks on notation: a Punnett square drawn without defining the allele symbols first is a half-answer. Enzymes lose marks on temperature questions answered with 'it dies' rather than with denaturing and active-site shape. Respiration and photosynthesis lose marks when candidates write equations instead of describing the process the question asked about.

In the practical components the losses are procedural. Tables drawn without units in the headings. Graphs with the dependent variable on the wrong axis, or with a scale chosen so the data occupies a third of the grid. Plans that name a variable to control without saying how. Conclusions that restate the data instead of answering the original question. Every one of those is a convention, and conventions are the cheapest thing in the whole syllabus to fix, which is why a component-targeted block of six to ten lessons often moves a grade more than a year of general revision.

The diagnosis has to come from a script. A parent describing a problem secondhand produces a plan aimed at the wrong component about half the time. A tutor who asks for the last school mock paper, marks it against the published mark scheme and comes back with the three syllabus statements that cost the most marks is doing the only piece of work that makes the subsequent hours worth their AED rate.

05

Online one-to-one against an in-home biology tutor in Sharjah: the arithmetic

Home tutoring is a real and reasonable thing for a Sharjah family to want, and it is what most parents type into Google. It is worth answering properly rather than deflecting. An in-home biology tutor in this emirate is quoted at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour depending on district and seniority, usually with a two-hour minimum, and the tutor you can get is drawn from the set of people willing to drive to your address on a weekday evening. In Al Majaz that set is reasonably large. In Kalba it is close to empty.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Sharjah families are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. We say that plainly rather than burying it, because the alternative is a parent discovering it after paying. The case for the online format is not that it is a substitute for something better; it is that for this subject and this emirate it buys a different and usually stronger tutor at a lower hourly figure.

The arithmetic is simple enough to do on the back of an envelope. Two hours in-home at AED 250 is AED 500 a week. Ninety minutes online at AED 200 is AED 300, with the saved AED 200 available for a second session or for the marking that budget tutors do not include. The time cost lands on the student too: a 5pm in-home slot in Al Nahda means leaving school, fighting the Dubai return and sitting down exhausted, where a 7.30pm video lesson starts after dinner with the student actually awake.

Where the in-home format genuinely wins is with younger children who will not stay on task without an adult in the room, and with students who have no quiet space and no reliable device. Both are honest limitations of video delivery and both are worth saying out loud. For a Year 11 candidate working on Paper 6 technique, screen sharing a marked script and annotating it live is closer to how the marking actually happens than two people looking at a printed page.

SPEA, the Sharjah school map and what a parent can actually check

Private schools in Sharjah are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Alongside Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, SPEA approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods in the emirate, which means curriculum and fee approval sits with the emirate's own authority rather than only with the federal ministry. For a tutoring decision that matters in one practical way: the subject, route and board your child sits are the school's decision inside an approved framework, and a tutor works to that framework rather than suggesting an alternative.

The regulator map across the country is worth knowing because Sharjah families often have children in schools in two emirates. Dubai's private schools sit under the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit under the Department of Education and Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah come under the Ministry of Education, which supervises private schools in those three emirates. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge.

Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies run alongside the licensed international curriculum in UAE private schools, and a federal rule sits behind that: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the ministry's general regulations. Dubai's published guidance goes further and requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and social studies, with combined classes for the two groups prohibited. A biology timetable is built around those mandatory periods, not the other way round.

What a parent can check directly is short and useful. Ask the exams officer for the syllabus code, the route, the series and the component numbers in writing. Ask whether the cohort sits Paper 5 or Paper 6. Look up the school's published inspection report on the regulator's own site rather than on an aggregator. And ask any tutor, including ours, which of those details they have seen before they quote a number of hours.

07

What a 0610 tutor may and may not do with school work and past papers

There is no written coursework in 0610, which removes the most common academic-honesty trap in international qualifications. The practical components are examined, not submitted, so nobody can hand in work a tutor touched. What remains is school-set work, mock papers and past-paper material, and there are clear lines around all three that a parent is entitled to see a tutor respect.

A tutor teaches, questions, models and gives feedback. A tutor does not produce answers for work that will be submitted as the student's own, does not sit beside a student during an online school assessment, and does not supply pre-written responses to a school's set questions. The boundary is not subtle: if the output is going to be marked as evidence of what the student can do, the student does it. Where a sector contains providers selling finished assessed work outright, saying this explicitly is a real distinction rather than a disclaimer.

Past papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge. A tutor may reference them, work from them in a lesson and point you to the official source, and should not be distributing copied syllabus documents, question papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. If a provider is handing over a drive full of scanned Cambridge material, that is a copyright problem and a signal about how else they operate. The right route is the published material your school's exams officer can access and the specimen papers Cambridge makes available itself.

Nobody can promise a grade in this subject, and a tutor who does is telling you something about themselves rather than about your child. Grade boundaries move between series, the practical component is sat under conditions nobody controls, and a candidate's performance on the day is theirs. What a tutor can honestly commit to is a diagnosis from a marked script, a plan aimed at named syllabus statements, marked work every week and a written account of what moved and what did not.

08

Permits, legality and how a Sharjah parent verifies a tutor

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, not left open. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on the introduction of private tuition work permits, administered through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, and figures circulating online could not be verified against an official source, so this page does not quote one. MoHRE's own service page is listed as the issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, with no fee stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system. That is the route to check, and it is the route a tutor should be able to describe without hesitating.

A separate rule applies to tutoring a child at your own school. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than verbatim regulation and check the current policy document, but the practical lesson holds across the country: 'your child's own teacher, privately' is not an arrangement to go looking for.

An operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor. A training institute in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no regulator permit of that kind and makes no claim to one: it is an online tutor-matching platform, with no office, centre or branch in the UAE, and it is not approved, accredited or endorsed by SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or the IB.

Starting 0610 support in Sharjah: the honest version

The first step costs nothing and is the one most families skip: get the entry details in writing. Syllabus code, route, series, component numbers. With those four facts a tutor can plan; without them the first two paid lessons go on finding them out. The second step is a marked script. The most recent school mock, marked against the published mark scheme, tells you which component is actually costing the grade, and it is usually not the one the student says it is.

Then the trial lesson. One free trial per student, no card details taken beforehand, with the tutor's subject history visible in advance. The purpose of the trial is not a sales conversation; it is to see whether this student will talk to this tutor about what they do not understand, which is the only thing that determines whether the subsequent hours work. If the answer is no, the match changes and the trial does not count against you.

Availability deserves a straight answer, because no competitor in this market gives one. For Cambridge IGCSE biology at Core and Extended, specialist cover is normally available within a few days. For the practical components and for Extended data-handling work the pool is smaller and an evening GST slot in the January to May peak can take longer to place. If no UAE-hours specialist is free for your child's component, we say so and offer a different slot or a different tutor rather than filling the hour with a generalist.

From there the shape is predictable: a weekly slot, marked work between lessons, a short written note each time naming the next target, and a review at the end of each term against the original script. Lessons pause for school holidays and for the exam fortnight itself. Timing shifts after Iftar during Ramadan on request. Nothing about this is complicated, and none of it depends on anyone driving anywhere.

Where we tutor

Where 0610 families in Sharjah sit, and what that does to a session time

Sharjah is not one commute. The emirate runs from Al Nahda, which is effectively a Dubai suburb, out to Al Dhaid in the interior and across to Khor Fakkan on the Gulf of Oman. Where a family lives decides what time a lesson can realistically start.

Al Nahda

Dense apartment blocks on the Dubai border. Many children here are driven into Dubai schools, which puts them home late and makes a 7.30pm or 8pm online slot the first workable one on a school night.

Al Majaz

Older villa and tower mix around Khalid Lagoon, within short reach of several British-curriculum schools. Afternoon slots from 5pm are usually feasible here, which is why in-home tutors quote Al Majaz more cheaply than the outlying districts.

Muwaileh

Home to a cluster of large private schools and a young family population. Sibling bookings are common, and parents often want two consecutive one-to-one slots rather than a shared lesson, because 0610 Core and Extended cannot be taught in the same hour.

University City

Built around the Sharjah higher-education campuses. A useful source of science graduates, which is part of why the budget end of the Sharjah tutoring market is well supplied with university-student tutors at the AED 45 to AED 150 band.

Al Khan and Al Taawun

Corniche-side towers with heavy evening traffic along the lagoon. Families here report that a tutor driving in from Dubai arrives late often enough to matter, which is a scheduling argument for video lessons rather than a sales one.

Halwan and Al Qasimia

Central, mostly Arab and South Asian expatriate households, with children split across Cambridge, CBSE and MoE-curriculum schools. A tutor working here needs to confirm the exam board before the first lesson, not assume it.

Khor Fakkan and Kalba

The east-coast exclaves, still regulated by SPEA but roughly two hours from the city by road. In-home tutoring at a sensible rate is essentially unavailable here; a live video lesson is the only way a 0610 specialist reaches a student in Kalba at all.

Al Dhaid

Inland agricultural town in the emirate's interior. Same point, more sharply: distance prices in-home tutoring out of reach, and online delivery removes the geography from the decision entirely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

Sharjah city — British-curriculum cluster

The schools where Cambridge IGCSE biology entries concentrate. Students we support sit 0610 from schools in this group; the list is context about the emirate's school map, not a claim of any relationship with the schools named.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Wesgreen International School
  • The Westminster School Sharjah
  • Australian International School Sharjah
  • Emirates National School Sharjah

Sharjah city — Indian and international cluster

CBSE and mixed-curriculum schools whose students sometimes sit Cambridge subjects as private candidates or move into an IGCSE stream mid-school. Families in this group most often ask about syllabus mismatch between what has been taught and what 0610 examines.

  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Our Own English High School Sharjah
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah American International School

Schools are named as context on the Sharjah school map; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school or school group listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the entry details in writing

Ask the exams officer for the syllabus code, the route, the series and the component numbers your child is entered for. Four facts, one email. They decide everything a tutor plans, and families who skip this step pay for lessons spent discovering them.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked script

The most recent mock or school paper, with the marks on it. A tutor marks it against the published mark scheme and names the three syllabus statements costing the most marks. This is the diagnosis the hourly rate is worth paying for, and it happens before any money changes hands.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One trial per student, over live video, with no card details collected first. You see the tutor's subject history in advance. The test is whether your child will admit confusion to this person, because nothing useful happens in the following lessons if the answer is no.

  4. 04

Agree the component target and the rate

A plan aimed at a named component, with a number of weeks and a figure per session agreed in writing. A quote given before the diagnosis is a guess, which is why this page publishes market bands rather than a price list of its own.

  5. 05

    Review against the original script

At the end of each term the same paper type is sat again under timed conditions and marked the same way. The comparison is the evidence. Where it shows no movement, the plan changes or the match changes, and we say which.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED numbers are on the page

Market bands for every provider model, with the publisher of each figure named and the month they were read. Three of the six pages ranking for this kind of query publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. A parent should not have to ring a sales line to learn what a subject costs.

Component-level planning, not general revision

A 0610 programme is aimed at Paper 4, Paper 6 or the Core theory paper, named in writing before it starts. Buying twenty hours of unaimed revision is the most reliable way to spend AED 4,000 on a grade that does not move.

Delivery stated plainly

One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE and holds no UAE office, centre or branch. You know the format before you pay, not after.

Marking between the lessons

Questions set, written, marked against the published mark scheme and returned with the syllabus statement attached. The gap between a budget hour and a specialist hour is almost entirely this, and it is where a practical-paper grade actually moves.

No claims we cannot stand behind

No grade guarantees, no invented satisfaction percentages, no regulator approval we do not hold, and no star ratings without countable reviews behind them. Where a figure cannot be sourced, such as a published fine amount for unpermitted tutoring, this page leaves it out.

Availability told straight

When no specialist is free for a component in the January to May peak, we say so and offer an alternative slot or tutor. The alternative practised elsewhere in this market is to fill the hour with a generalist and let the family find out later.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor cost per hour in Sharjah?+

Market rates reaching Sharjah as of October 2026 run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour for a qualified biology tutor working online. Budget platforms sit lower: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to AED 52. Subject specialists are quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium named tutors above AED 500. In-home delivery adds a travel premium, with Bestimate's 2026 table putting home visits at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent tutors asking up to AED 500. Those are published market figures, not an IB Gram rate; ours is agreed after a free trial lesson and a marked diagnostic script.

Why does a 0610 practical-skills session cost more than a theory session?+

Because the work happens outside the lesson as well as inside it. Paper 5 and Paper 6 are assessed on things the student has to produce: a plan naming how a variable is controlled, a results table with units in the headings, a graph with sensible axes, a conclusion that answers the original question. Each of those has to be written by the student and then marked against the published mark scheme, which is unpaid time for the tutor unless it is priced in. A theory hour can be taught and finished inside the hour. A practical hour generates a marking job, and tutors who include marking charge for it, which is one reason the specialist band sits above the budget band.

Should we pay more for a biology tutor who has marked Cambridge papers?+

Sometimes, and only for a specific job. Someone who has marked at scale knows how a mark scheme is applied, which is useful when the problem is a candidate losing marks on answers that look correct. For a student who has not learned transport in plants, that experience changes nothing and you are paying a premium for the wrong thing. Be careful with the claim as well: describing a tutor as a current board examiner is only honest if the status can be evidenced, and no examiner has access to unreleased papers, grade boundaries or marking decisions. Ask what the person has marked, when, and what they would do with your child's script in week one.

Is it cheaper to book 0610 lessons weekly through the year or in a block before the exams?+

Weekly through the year is almost always cheaper per mark gained, for two reasons. Rates across this sector rise as a series approaches, so a block bought in April for a June exam is bought at peak demand from a shrinking pool of evening slots. And a weekly programme spends no time re-diagnosing the same gap, because marked work between lessons keeps the picture current. Blocks earn their place in one situation: the overall grade is acceptable and one named component is dragging it down. Six to ten lessons aimed at Paper 6 conventions can move a grade. The same ten hours spread thinly across the whole syllabus usually does not.

What does hiring an in-home biology tutor in Sharjah add to the hourly rate?+

Travel, a minimum booking and a smaller choice of tutor. Published figures put in-home one-to-one in this market at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 online, usually with a two-hour minimum, because the tutor is giving up three or four hours of an evening for one or two paid ones. The second cost is selection: you can only hire from the people willing to drive to your district on a school night, which in Al Majaz is a reasonable pool and in Kalba or Al Dhaid is close to none. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; Sharjah lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video.

Do Core and Extended 0610 candidates need the same number of lessons?+

No, and the difference is bigger than most families expect. The hourly rate is the same, but Extended adds supplement content inside every topic rather than as a separate unit, so there is simply more to cover and the questions demand more sustained explanation. As a working estimate an Extended programme needs something like a third to a half more hours than a Core programme aimed at the same relative improvement. The other difference is the shape: Core candidates most often need recall and basic data reading, Extended candidates most often need mechanism written in causal order and analysis of data they have not seen before. Find out which route the school has entered before buying any hours.

Which 0610 papers will my child sit if the school enters them for the Extended route?+

Extended candidates sit Paper 2, the multiple-choice paper worth thirty per cent, and Paper 4, the theory paper worth fifty per cent. They then sit one practical component: either Paper 5, the timed practical test, or Paper 6, the written alternative to practical, each worth twenty per cent. The school chooses between Paper 5 and Paper 6 for the cohort, and that choice changes how preparation should be organised. Ask the exams officer to confirm the component numbers in writing, along with the series. Confirm the current component structure on cambridgeinternational.org, since syllabus versions are revised and a tutor working from an old structure will prepare the wrong things.

Can a tutor prepare my child for Paper 6 without being in a laboratory?+

Yes, and Paper 6 is the component most suited to video teaching. The alternative to practical is a written paper: the candidate plans investigations, identifies variables and how to control them, completes and reads tables, plots and interprets graphs, and comments on sources of error. All of that happens on paper, so screen sharing a marked attempt and annotating it live is closer to how it is actually marked than sitting side by side with a printout. Paper 5 is different, because apparatus handling has to be practised somewhere with apparatus. For Paper 5 candidates the online work concentrates on recording, processing and written commentary, with handling practice left to the school laboratory.

Are the AED rates quoted by Sharjah tutoring agencies inclusive of VAT?+

Ask, in writing, before booking. Published rates in this market are often quoted without stating the position, and the difference matters on a term-long commitment. This page will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and the honest answer is that a parent should see it confirmed by the provider and, for a registered business, see a tax registration number. The practical approach: ask whether the figure quoted is the amount that will be charged, whether any registration or material fee sits on top, and get the answer by email rather than on a call.

How many weeks before the Cambridge biology series should a Sharjah family start?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, so the answer depends on which one the school has entered. For a June series, starting in September of Year 11 gives enough time for a weekly programme with marked work, which is the cheapest route to a grade change. Starting in January still allows a full component rebuild. Starting six weeks out is not pointless, but it narrows the job to triage: the two or three highest-yield fixes, usually practical conventions and the explain-versus-describe problem, and a written list of topics to abandon. Entry deadlines sit months before the exam itself, so confirm the series early.

Does a tutor teaching my child from outside the UAE need a MoHRE permit?+

The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applies to individuals providing private tutoring in the UAE, and it is granted free of charge for two years to eligible applicants including registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A tutor who lives and works in another country teaching by video is operating under that country's rules rather than holding a UAE permit. What a parent should do either way is ask where the tutor is based, which time zone they teach on, and, for anyone tutoring from inside the UAE, to see the permit.

What happens to our money if the first 0610 tutor is not the right fit?+

The trial lesson exists precisely for this, which is why it comes before any payment and before any card details are collected. If the trial shows that your child will not talk openly to that tutor about what they do not understand, the match changes and the trial does not count against you. After a programme has started, raise it early rather than at the end of term: a rematch after two lessons costs a fortnight, a rematch after ten costs a term. Ask any provider you are comparing what their replacement policy is in writing, because several in this market do not publish one at all.

Are there cheaper group options for 0610 for families in Al Majaz or Al Nahda?+

Yes, and they suit some students well. Online small groups of two to four are advertised in this market at roughly AED 80 to AED 180 per student per hour, and monthly packages have been published at around AED 799 for eight online sessions. The trade is individual marking: in a group the pace is set for everyone, and the written feedback that moves a practical-paper grade is thinner or absent. Groups work for a student who is broadly on track and needs structured weekly coverage. They work poorly for a candidate with one badly weak component, which is the case most Sharjah families are actually dealing with by Year 11.

Will a tutor supply Cambridge past papers, mark schemes and grade boundaries?+

A tutor can reference them, work from them in a lesson and point you to the official source. A tutor should not be handing over copied syllabus documents, question papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, because that material belongs to Cambridge and distributing it is a copyright problem. If a provider offers a drive full of scanned board material as a selling point, treat it as information about how else they operate. The legitimate routes are the specimen and past materials Cambridge publishes itself and the material your school's exams officer can access, used in a lesson rather than redistributed.

Can one tutor cover both biology and chemistry in the same weekly hour?+

They can, and for most students it is a false economy. Sixty minutes split across two sciences gives neither subject enough continuous work to fix a technique problem, and the marking between lessons halves for each subject. Two shorter sessions, or one subject this term and the other next, usually produces more movement for the same AED outlay. The exception is a student whose problem is identical in both subjects, most often experimental design and graph conventions, since the practical papers in 0610 and 0620 reward the same habits. In that case one tutor working across both is efficient rather than thin.

The sequence matters more than the rate. Ask the exams officer for the syllabus code, route, series and component numbers. Send the last marked paper. Take the free trial lesson, one per student, with no card details collected first. Only then is there anything real to price, because a 0610 Core candidate two terms out and an Extended candidate six weeks from the June series are different jobs at the same hourly figure. Market bands for Sharjah sit in the tables above with each source named. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with marked work between them and a written note after each session saying what moved.
