IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Khan

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Khan is a third education bill, arriving after school fees and examination entries have already been paid. Families here want it costed in that context rather than quoted in isolation. IB Gram matches Sharjah families with IGCSE subject specialists teaching one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and this page sets the figures beside the other things a household is already paying for.

  • Every rate quoted with the provider or survey that published it
  • Tutoring costed against school fees and examination entries
  • No travel component, because no tutor travels anywhere
  • Free trial lesson before any block is agreed

IB & IGCSE in Al Khan

The third bill, in context

Al Khan runs along the Sharjah lagoon between Al Majaz and Al Taawun, a dense residential strip with the Dubai boundary a short drive west and schools on both sides of it. Households here are typically paying substantial school fees, often for more than one child, and a tutoring enquiry arrives as a third bill rather than as a first one. That is the right way to think about it, and almost no page in this market does.

So this page sets the numbers side by side. School fees, which are approved by a regulator and are the largest education cost a family carries. Examination entry fees, which arrive quietly through the school and are rarely itemised in a parent's mental budget. And tutoring, which is the only one of the three a family actually controls, and therefore the one most often cut, delayed or over-bought in a panic.

The published tutoring market, read in October 2026, gives the frame. Entry-level online sessions are advertised from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Qualified online subject tutors publish from about AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE and IB tutors are quoted from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase at around AED 270. In-home visits including travel run from roughly AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table placing the usual band at AED 180 to 350.

Against school fees those figures look different from how they look in isolation. A short diagnostic block of three sessions at qualified rates is a small fraction of a term's fees. A year of weekly specialist sessions is not, and is a decision that deserves the same scrutiny a school choice gets. The distinction most families need is between those two purchases, and the evidence that tells them apart is free.

IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the country; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. In budget terms that removes the travel component from the rate and removes the waste that a visiting arrangement produces on a corridor where afternoon arrival times are genuinely unpredictable.

The rest of this page costs tutoring in context, explains who approves school fees and why that matters, puts examination and resit entry fees into the picture, sets out what to cut first when a budget is fixed, and ranks the free and low-cost options that should come before anybody is paid. It also says plainly where the honest answer is to spend nothing at all, which is a conclusion we reach with families more often than a page selling tutoring would normally admit.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What the third bill should be depends on the year group, because the return on a session changes sharply across the two IGCSE years.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9: the smallest bill with the largest effect

Fortnightly support across two terms, aimed at algebraic fluency, written-answer structure and the habit of showing full working. Against a term of school fees it is a small number, and the gains compound through both IGCSE years rather than expiring after a test.

In a multi-child household this is also the only stage at which one child can be supported without a clash of deadlines. Once two children are in examination years at once, both the budget and the evenings are contested and the cheap window has closed.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10: buying the ceiling

Content is delivered and the end-of-year internal examination usually becomes the tier recommendation. Money here buys closed coverage gaps and the marked evidence a tier conversation needs. The second is only available now, which makes it the most time-sensitive line in the budget.

Ask whether the Year 10 result is the final input to the tier decision or whether it is reviewed in the autumn. Schools on either side of the boundary differ, the answer is free, and it decides whether evidence gathered later gets looked at.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11: the expensive, narrow window

Where most families first spend and where what help can achieve is narrowest. Teaching runs to study leave; after that the work is recovering marks the student can already earn. Worth buying, and a smaller purchase than families expect once the diagnosis exists.

Add the November series to the budget conversation before the June entry rather than after the result. Entry costs, whether the school enters November candidates, and the sixth-form application timetable all need checking with the examinations officer first.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where a third bill has to be kept small, these are the subjects it gets spent on, with a note on what each costs to improve rather than on how hard it is.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Pearson 4MA1

Best-supplied subject in the market, so rates sit at the lower end of every tier. Also the subject where a tier error is costliest, since Core and Foundation entries cap the grade whatever the preparation.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Mid-market rates with a thin specialist pool for the practical-skills paper. The written-method skill needs several marked attempts, so it is an autumn purchase rather than a post-mock one.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Among the better late purchases: moles calculations and unit discipline respond quickly to focused work. Organic pathways need weeks, so a late block should take the calculation marks first.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Highest content load, so the poorest return per dirham on a late start. The exception is command-term discipline, which is trainable in two sessions at any point in the year.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 / 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Often the highest-leverage single purchase in a large entry, because planning and argument structure improve answers in Business, Economics, History and the sciences at the same time.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 / 0511

A separate qualification from First Language English with different recognition later. Confirm which is on the entry before buying material, since the mark schemes and the sixth-form reception differ.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 / 0455

Mid-market rates and a clear mechanism: application to the case insert plus explicit evaluation. A short block on argument structure usually shows up within a term.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Thin specialist supply and higher rates. Pseudocode conventions are specification-dependent, so cheap cross-board practice here wastes the fee twice: once in money and once in habits.

Additional Mathematics

Extension alongside IGCSE

Scarce and priced accordingly. Fund it only where the main specification is already secure, and only in the autumn; taken on late it usually costs marks in the main subject.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language streams

Carried alongside the international curriculum under the federal position, in separate streams for Arab and non-Arab students, and excluded from the five subjects the Ministry counts on the British track.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four purchases, ordered from free upwards. Work down the list only as far as the evidence requires, because the cheapest option that addresses the actual problem is the correct one.

Free school support, used properly

The marked script rather than the grade, the subject teacher's priority topics, and any departmental revision clinic. Costs nothing, is routinely left on the table, and occasionally resolves the problem without a third bill at all.

  • Ask for the marked script, not the grade sheet
  • Ask which three topics the teacher would prioritise
  • Attend the revision clinic if one exists
  • Reassess after a fortnight before spending

Three-session diagnostic block

The smallest paid purchase: one session reading a marked paper and naming the error types, two fixing the largest. Against a term of school fees it is a small line, and it produces a written diagnosis you keep whatever happens next.

  • Scoped from marked work, not from a conversation
  • Fixed at three sessions with an agreed end point
  • Ends with an unaided attempt at the same question type
  • Repeatable for a second topic without a term commitment

Single-subject block to study leave

Six to eight weekly sessions in one subject where the evidence supports sustained work, scoped to finish before the school's study-leave date and reviewed at the midpoint against a second marked paper.

  • Session count and finish date agreed in writing
  • Short homework set and marked at the next session
  • Midpoint comparison of two papers by topic
  • Stopping early is a legitimate outcome

November resit block

A short autumn block aimed at one subject for the November series, planned around the entry deadline rather than the paper date. A separate line in the budget, and one worth anticipating before the June entry rather than after the result.

  • Starts from the summer script where the centre provides it
  • Scoped to the November entry deadline
  • One subject, deliberately, not three
  • Ends with a decision point before the entry is submitted

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Khan

01

What IGCSE tutoring costs beside the other bills

  • School fees and examination entries are largely fixed costs
  • Tutoring is the discretionary line, so it is cut or panic-bought
  • Three diagnostic sessions is a small purchase; a year is not
  • Separate the two before deciding anything

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Khan, as the phrase is used here, is one-to-one teaching for one child on the specification that child is entered for. IB Gram provides that over live video to Sharjah families and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tuition is a service we run only in India. The question this page answers is not what an hour costs but what that hour costs relative to the education bills a household is already carrying.

Those bills are large and mostly fixed. School fees are the biggest and are set by the school within a regulatory framework rather than negotiated by a parent. Examination entry fees arrive through the school and are frequently bundled into a term's invoice without a parent ever seeing the per-subject figure. Transport, uniform and activity costs sit alongside them. Against that background, tutoring is the one discretionary line, which is why it tends to be either skipped entirely or bought in an expensive hurry.

The useful reframing is to separate the small purchases from the large ones. Three diagnostic sessions at published qualified rates of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour is a modest number against a term of fees, and it produces a written list of what is actually going wrong. A year of weekly specialist sessions at AED 200 to AED 450 and above is a serious commitment that deserves the same scrutiny as a school choice. Treating those two as the same kind of decision is how families overspend.

IB Gram publishes no tariff on these pages, because the right figure depends on subject scarcity, tier and session length and is quoted after a free trial lesson. Every dirham figure here belongs to the named provider or rate survey that published it, read in October 2026.

02

Tutoring cost in context

The table below is the piece of analysis this market does not publish: tutoring set beside the other costs of educating the same child, in dirhams, over comparable periods. It is built from published figures and bands rather than from quotations, and the point is proportion rather than precision.

Two things usually surprise families who build their own version. The first is how small a well-targeted diagnostic block looks next to a term of fees — a few hundred dirhams against several thousand. The second is how quickly weekly specialist sessions across two years approach the scale of a term's fees, which is the point at which a family should want evidence rather than reassurance.

The third observation is about examination entries, which are the most invisible line in the table. Most parents cannot say what their child's entries cost, because they arrive bundled. Asking the examinations officer for the per-subject entry fee is worth doing once, because it also makes the cost of a resit concrete and therefore makes the tier conversation in Year 10 feel as consequential as it actually is.

Fill the table in with your own school's numbers. The exercise takes twenty minutes and it changes spending decisions more reliably than any amount of comparison shopping between tutors.

A note on what the table deliberately leaves out. It contains no IB Gram price, because the right figure depends on subject scarcity, tier and session length and is quoted after a free trial lesson rather than published as a tariff. It also contains no school fee figure, because fees vary enormously between schools within a few kilometres of this district and quoting a single number would be misleading rather than helpful. Both columns are yours to fill in from documents you already hold.

Who approves school fees, and why a tutoring budget should care

  • SPEA approves fees, curricula and assessment methods in Sharjah
  • KHDA confirmed no fee increase for Dubai private schools in 2026-27
  • That confirmation sat inside a AED 1.5 billion incentives package
  • Dubai's 227 private schools in 2024-25 are why the tutor pool is deep

Fee regulation is not a detail for a tutoring page; it is the context in which a family decides whether a third bill is affordable. The frameworks differ by emirate and they are not symmetrical.

In Sharjah, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge operates on the same model. That is a broader remit than inspection: fee levels and curriculum approval both sit with the emirate authority rather than with the school alone.

In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education. It confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a Sharjah family with children at a Dubai school, that is directly relevant to what the household can afford elsewhere.

The scale of the market matters too, because it is what sets the local supply of tutors. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, and its 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools creating 16,846 new places. A market that size is why the online tutoring pool is deep, and why a family on the Sharjah side of the boundary can access it at the same rates as one inside Dubai.

04

Examination entries and resits: the line nobody budgets

  • Ask the examinations officer for the per-subject entry fee once
  • A capped tier leads to a resit fee plus a term of tutoring
  • A review of marking carries a fee and a risk, through the centre
  • A Year 10 evidence block is the cheapest way to avoid all of it

Ask most parents what their child's IGCSE entries cost and the answer is a shrug, because the figure arrives inside a school invoice. That invisibility has a consequence: the cost of getting an entry decision wrong is also invisible, and so the decisions that generate resits are made with no price attached.

The sequence is worth seeing in cost terms. Entries are submitted by the school's examinations officer months before the papers, with a fee per subject. A tier that caps a grade below what a sixth form or an equivalency requirement needs leads to a November entry, which means another fee, a term of tutoring and a student still working on a subject the cohort has finished. A review of marking, requested through the centre within a short window after results, carries its own fee and its own risk.

Against all of that, a three-session evidence block in Year 10 that supports a tier conversation is a small, early purchase with an unusually clear return. It is also the purchase least often made, because in Year 10 nothing feels urgent and no bill has yet arrived.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, the November window has run from late October into November, with the November 2026 final timetable finishing on 19 November 2026 and results reaching students in January; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. Those past dates are cited because they are checkable; confirm current timings against the official timetable and ask your school whether it enters November candidates at all.

05

What to cut first when the budget is fixed

Most households here are not choosing between everything and nothing; they are choosing what to keep. So the useful advice is an explicit cutting order rather than an argument that tutoring is valuable.

Cut, in this order. Anything bought before marked work was read, because it is a guess. Sessions in a subject the student dislikes but passes, which is motivation rather than teaching. Sessions spread thinly across three or four subjects, which produce no visible movement in any. Any arrangement whose sessions are repeatedly missed because the hour does not suit the commute, since those are being paid for twice. And finally, length: a term bought where the evidence supported three sessions.

Keep, in this order. The diagnostic block, because without it everything else is guesswork. Technique work in the subject nearest a grade boundary, where a small intervention converts into a grade. English Language technique, because planning and structure transfer to five other subjects at once. And the tier-evidence block if entries are still open, because the ceiling matters more than any topic.

The table below sets that out as a decision list. It is deliberately blunt, because a fixed budget rewards bluntness more than it rewards a balanced view in which everything has some merit.

One more cut worth naming, because families resist it. A block that is not working should be ended rather than extended, even when the tutor is likeable and the student has grown comfortable. Comfort is a real benefit and it is not what the fee was for. Agreeing the stopping condition at the outset makes that decision administrative rather than personal, which is the only way it reliably gets made.

The free and low-cost options, ranked

  • The marked script and the teacher's priorities cost nothing
  • Departmental revision clinics are often under-attended
  • Board specifications and timetables are free on the boards' own sites
  • A group class is the cheapest supervised option but cannot diagnose

Before a third bill is added, there is a ladder of cheaper options that families on this corridor consistently under-use. Ranked by cost, starting at nothing.

Free, from the school: the marked script rather than the grade sheet, read with four labels — blank, attempted and abandoned, partially credited, completed but wrong. The subject teacher's answer to which three topics they would prioritise, a question they are rarely asked and answer well. Any departmental revision clinic, which on both sides of this boundary is often under-attended purely because families do not know it exists. And the code, tier, study-leave date and November entry deadline in writing from the examinations officer.

Free, from the boards: Cambridge and Pearson publish specification documents, support material and the official timetables on their own sites, including the zone-specific Cambridge timetable a centre must use. We link those rather than reproducing them, because the material belongs to the boards and copying it is a copyright problem. Anybody offering a download library of mark schemes is advertising that problem rather than a service.

Low cost: a group revision class at a local centre, which retells a specification with structure at the lowest supervised rate available and is a reasonable purchase for a student who has fallen behind across a whole subject. It cannot examine your child's own script, so it will not find an error pattern, and on this corridor it also adds a round trip at the worst hour of the day. After all of that, a three-session diagnostic block is the first thing worth paying a one-to-one rate for.

07

Permits, claims and the questions to ask before paying

  • The MoHRE permit is free for two years, so ask whether it is held
  • No provider here holds regulator or board approval, including us
  • Ask about missed sessions, the smallest option and the stopping rule
  • Refuse guarantees, unevidenced ratings and coursework completion

A conspicuously low rate sometimes means a regulatory question has not been asked, and asking it costs nothing. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, any page quoting an amount has invented it.

The permit also carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, which matters in a district where a family and a teacher may well live in the same tower. The school regulator is a separate matter: private schools in Sharjah answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Dubai's to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and no tutoring provider, including IB Gram, holds approval, accreditation or a licence from either.

Four questions are worth asking any provider before money moves. What happens to a missed session, which on this corridor will happen. What the smallest useful purchase is, and whether it is offered without an argument. What evidence would justify stopping, agreed in advance. And what the provider will refuse to do with coursework, where a subject has it.

And the claims to refuse outright: a guarantee of a grade, any claimed regulator or board approval, any school described as a partner or client, any satisfaction figure or rating without the number, date and method behind it, and any offer to complete assessed work. We make none of them, publish no ratings, and do not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables.

Where we tutor

Al Khan and the lagoon districts

Geography here affects the bill through scheduling rather than mileage. These are the districts in the conversation and what each means in practice.

Al Khan

Towers along the lagoon and the corniche, with schools in both emirates in reach. Cross-border arrivals after 4.30pm make the contested afternoon slot unusable, and any visiting arrangement prices the crossing in.

Al Taawun

A short run west with an almost identical commute and rate profile. Families compare across the two districts and find nothing that changes a budget.

Al Majaz

East along the water, with the same mix of local and cross-border schooling and the same published rate bands. Same preference for a fixed later slot.

Al Qasimia

Inland, where locally schooled children are home earlier and an earlier session is genuinely available. Slightly more scheduling choice for the same money.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

The densest commuting belt on the boundary. Relevant to Al Khan families whose children attend the same Dubai schools, since arrival patterns are comparable.

Muwaileh and University City

Inland with shorter runs and a separate school cluster. A move here returns weekday evenings, which is the one real saving geography offers on this corridor.

Dubai's Al Mamzar and Al Qusais

Across the water and the boundary, where a share of these children are schooled. A Dubai-based visiting tutor asked to cross at five in the afternoon will usually decline or price the journey.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Khan

Sharjah schools within the emirate

Reachable without a crossing, which usually returns a child home half an hour earlier. Their fees are approved by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

  • The Sheffield Private School
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Our Own English High School Sharjah
  • Wesgreen International School
  • The Westminster School Sharjah

Dubai schools reached from the lagoon

Where many of these children are schooled, which puts their fees under Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority instead. Worth knowing, because the two emirates handle fee review differently.

  • The Millennium School Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Al Ittihad Private School
  • Apple International School
  • GEMS Legacy School

Schools are named as context for the education landscape around Al Khan. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied, and the students we support attend many schools beyond those listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Put the three bills on one page

School fees per term, the per-subject examination entry fee from the examinations officer, and whatever you can allocate to tutoring. That context changes the recommendation, because a small early purchase and a year of weekly sessions are different decisions.

  2. 02

    Collect the free material first

The marked script, the subject teacher's three priority topics, the code and tier, and the study-leave date. All free, all obtainable in a week, and all of it is what any competent tutor would ask for before teaching anything.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson at a workable hour

Scheduled around the real arrival time rather than a standard slot, on your child's own questions, with the specialist who would teach the block. You should finish with three named error types written down.

  4. 04

    Buy the smallest useful thing

Three sessions where three will do, a block where the evidence supports one, and nothing at all where the free material resolved it. The recommendation follows the marked work rather than the budget you mention.

  5. 05

Agree the stopping rule in advance

A second timed paper at the midpoint, marked the same way and compared by topic. If the named error types have not moved, the block ends rather than extends. That rule is what keeps a discretionary bill discretionary.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Costed against the other bills

Tutoring is set beside school fees and examination entries rather than quoted in isolation, because that is the only context in which a household can judge whether a third bill is proportionate.

Rates published with sources

Every dirham band here names the provider or rate survey that published it and the month it was read. Three of the strongest pages competing for this search publish no price at all and two quote dollars at families who pay in dirhams.

An explicit cutting order

When a budget is fixed the useful advice is what to cut first, not an argument that tutoring is valuable. This page gives that order plainly, including cutting purchases that were made before marked work was read.

The invisible entry fee made visible

Examination entry costs arrive bundled in a school invoice, which hides the cost of a resit and makes the Year 10 tier conversation feel optional. Asking for the per-subject figure once changes how that decision gets made.

Free options ranked first

The marked script, the teacher's priorities, the revision clinic and the boards' own published material come before any purchase. A family that uses all four sometimes needs nothing further.

No travel in the rate

Published in-home rates include the journey, and on this corridor the journey is the least predictable part of the afternoon. We make no visits anywhere in the UAE, so there is nothing to charge for and nothing lost to traffic.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Khan: your questions answered

How does IGCSE tutoring compare in cost with a term of school fees in Sharjah?+

A three-session diagnostic block at published qualified rates of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour is a few hundred dirhams, which is a small line against a term of fees. A term of weekly specialist sessions at AED 200 to AED 450 and above runs into several thousand and deserves the same scrutiny as a school choice. The distinction matters: families who treat those two purchases as the same kind of decision usually overspend on the second and skip the first.

What do IGCSE examination entries actually cost?+

Most parents do not know, because the figure arrives bundled in a school invoice. Ask the examinations officer for the per-subject entry fee once. It is worth doing because it makes the cost of a resit concrete: a capped tier leads to a November entry with another fee, plus a term of tutoring, plus a student still working on a subject their cohort has finished. That in turn makes the Year 10 tier conversation feel as consequential as it really is.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to an apartment in Al Khan?+

No. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time. In budget terms that removes the travel component that published in-home rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour include, and it removes the waste when an unpredictable afternoon on this corridor cuts a visit short or cancels it.

Who approves the fees at my child's school?+

It depends on the emirate the school sits in. In Sharjah the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. In Dubai the Knowledge and Human Development Authority oversees private education quality, and it confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year under a AED 1.5 billion incentives package. For a Sharjah family with a child at a Dubai school, that is relevant context.

If the budget is fixed, what should we cut first?+

In this order: anything bought before marked work was read, because it was a guess; sessions in a subject the student dislikes but passes, which is a motivation issue; sessions spread thinly across three or four subjects, which move nothing; any arrangement whose sessions are repeatedly missed because the hour does not suit the commute; and finally length, where a term was bought and three sessions would have done. Keep the diagnostic block, the boundary subject and English Language technique.

What is the cheapest thing that actually tells us what is wrong?+

The marked script, and it is free. Ask the subject teacher for it rather than the grade, then go through it with four labels: blank, attempted and abandoned, partially credited, and completed but wrong. The distribution is the diagnosis. Blanks at the end mean timing; scattered blanks mean avoided topics; partial credit everywhere means method and command terms; completed but wrong means a genuine content gap. Only the last needs teaching rather than training.

Is a group revision class a reasonable way to keep the third bill small?+

For one purpose. A class retells a specification with structure at the lowest supervised cost per hour, which suits a student who has fallen behind across a whole subject. It cannot examine your child's own script, so it cannot find an error pattern, and on this corridor it adds a round trip at the worst hour of the day. If the marked paper shows two marks a question going missing on units and method, no number of classes will address it.

Why is a Year 10 tier conversation described as a cost saving?+

Because the alternative is a resit. Cambridge Core accesses grades C to G while Extended accesses A* to E; Pearson Foundation accesses 5 to 1 while Higher accesses 9 to 4 with a grade 3 safety net. If a sixth form or an equivalency requirement needs a grade the tier cannot award, no preparation produces it, and the remedy costs an entry fee plus a term of tutoring. A three-session evidence block in Year 10 is a fraction of that and is bought when nothing feels urgent.

How much should a Sharjah family expect to spend across both IGCSE years?+

Less than most do, if it is placed well. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly hour-long sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year support. The pattern that wastes money is nothing in Year 10 and a concentrated burst between the mock and study leave. Moving part of the same total into Year 10, while content is still being taught, buys considerably more.

Does the deep Dubai school market affect what we pay in Sharjah?+

Yes, favourably. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, with seven new schools and 16,846 new places added for 2026-27. A market that size supports a deep pool of subject specialists, and because specialist tutoring is priced regionally and delivered online, a family on the Sharjah side of the boundary reaches that pool at the same published rates as one inside Dubai.

What happens to the fee if a session is missed because of traffic?+

Ask any provider this before signing anything, because on this corridor it will happen. The answer tells you how the arrangement behaves in week five, which matters more than the hourly rate. Our own structural answer is to set the slot late enough to survive a bad crossing and to put the most important session at the weekend, because a cancellation policy is a worse solution than a time that works. A session repeatedly missed is being paid for twice.

Does a tutor working with a student in Al Khan need a permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Because it costs nothing there is no good reason not to hold one, and tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Can we get mark schemes and past papers included in the fee?+

No, and be wary of anybody offering them. Specification documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson and are published on their own sites. We cite and link them rather than reproducing or hosting copies, because copying is a copyright problem and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. Your school can tell you what your child is entitled to access, and that access is part of the fees you already pay.

What should make us stop paying rather than renew?+

Agree it at the start. A reasonable standard is a second timed paper at the midpoint, marked against the published scheme and compared with the first by topic, plus your child being able to name their own weakest area unprompted. If neither has moved after four weeks, the plan or the match is wrong and continuing is paying for hope. A provider who cannot describe a stopping condition is selling a subscription, which is exactly what a discretionary third bill should not become.

Three bills on one page, then the smallest purchase

Write down the termly fees, ask the examinations officer for the per-subject entry fee, and decide what tutoring can have. Then send a marked script with the syllabus code and tier. We will say what the smallest useful purchase is, where the free school material would do the job instead, and what evidence should make you stop. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time for families across Al Khan and the Sharjah lagoon districts.
