IGCSE Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

Hiring an IGCSE tutor in Ras Al Khaimah usually means choosing between four things: the school's own after-hours clinic, a group class at a city tuition centre, a freelance tutor found through a community group, or one-to-one teaching delivered live online. This page puts those four side by side with the AED bands the market actually charges, the syllabus codes your child is entered for, and the Cambridge and Pearson entry deadlines that decide how much time is left. Teaching from IB Gram is delivered online, over live video, one student and one subject teacher.

  • Cambridge 0580, 0620, 0625 and Pearson 4MA1 taught by subject specialists
  • AED bands quoted as published market rates, never as our own price list
  • Sessions scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, after the Ras Al Khaimah school run
  • One free trial lesson per subject, with no card details taken first

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

Four ways to get IGCSE help in Ras Al Khaimah, and what actually separates them

Ras Al Khaimah is a small market for a specialised job. The emirate's private schools sit mostly in a band running from Al Nakheel and Khuzam in the city out to Al Hamra Village and Mina Al Arab on the southern coast, and between them they offer a handful of IGCSE subject menus rather than the fifty-campus spread Dubai has. That matters the moment your child needs help with Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 or Extended-tier Chemistry 0620 rather than general study support. The number of people in driving distance who have taught that exact specification to that exact tier is small, and in some subjects it is close to nobody.

So the real decision here is not whether tutoring helps. It is which of four options you are buying. The school's own revision clinic is free, is run by the person who sets the mock, and is almost always a group. A tuition centre in the city gives you a room, a timetable and a teacher covering six children at once at a lower hourly figure. A freelance tutor contacted through a neighbourhood group may be excellent and may be a university student with a fortnight of experience; the permit position and the subject depth are both on you to check. One-to-one online teaching costs more per hour than a group seat and less than an in-home visit once travel is priced in, and it is the only one of the four where the pool you choose from is not limited by who lives within half an hour of your villa.

The honest version of the trade-off is this. Group teaching is efficient for content coverage and poor at diagnosing one student's specific error pattern. A local freelance visit buys presence in the room and costs you travel time inside the fee. Online one-to-one buys the subject specialist and asks the student to work on a screen with a shared document and a graphics tablet. For a Year 11 student eight months from a June series, the thing that moves the grade is usually not the format at all: it is whether somebody has read their last two mock scripts question by question and knows which four topics are costing them marks.

IB Gram delivers teaching to families in Ras Al Khaimah online, over live video, with one tutor and one student. We do not send a tutor to a home anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. That is a deliberate limit rather than a gap. It means a family in Al Marjan Island and a family in Al Rams are offered the same Physics 0625 specialist, and that a subject with three capable teachers in the whole northern emirates is not rationed by postcode.

What follows is the detail a parent needs before paying anybody: what the four options cost in AED, how to tell a Cambridge entry from a Pearson one, what the tier on the entry form does to the grade ceiling, where marks are lost in each of the main subjects, and the entry deadline that sits months before the exam and quietly removes options when it passes.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Ras Al Khaimah schools run IGCSE as a two-year Year 10 to Year 11 course, usually after a Lower Secondary or Checkpoint phase and usually feeding into either International A Levels or the IB Diploma. Support is organised around those four stages because a Year 9 problem and a Year 11 problem need different teaching.

Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE is a two-year, subject-by-subject qualification taken one syllabus at a time, each with its own code: 0580 Mathematics, 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0450 Business Studies, 0478 Computer Science. Grades are reported A* to G. Most syllabuses are examined entirely at the end of Year 11, with the sciences adding a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper worth a fifth of the grade.

The British-curriculum schools in Ras Al Khaimah run Cambridge entries through their own exam centre, and the centre is allocated to one of Cambridge's six administrative zones. The zone decides which version of the timetable applies, and Cambridge states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exams officer which zone it sits in.

INTL GCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's International GCSE covers the same age group with different specifications and a different grade scale: 9 to 1, where 9 is the top grade. Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics is 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language A is 4EA1. The sciences have no separate practical exam; practical understanding is assessed inside the written papers, which changes how a student should revise for them.

Pearson runs International GCSE series in May and June and again in November, which gives a Ras Al Khaimah student who narrowly missed a grade a resit route in the same calendar year rather than a twelve-month wait. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Results from the June 2026 series reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August.

CHECKPOINTAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE are where the gaps that later cost grades are created: negative indices, rearranging formulae, writing a method rather than an answer, reading a question for its command word. Cambridge offers Checkpoint tests in March, May and October as a diagnostic rather than a certificate, and the feedback they return maps cleanly onto the topics an IGCSE paper will ask about two years later.

In Ras Al Khaimah this is the cheapest intervention available, because a Year 8 student needs one session a fortnight rather than the three a week an exam-year panic requires. Families in Al Dhait and Khuzam often start here after a Checkpoint report, use two terms to close an arithmetic or writing gap, and then stop until options are chosen in Year 9.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The Diploma is one of the two routes out of IGCSE in this emirate, alongside International A Levels. It asks for six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The step up is less about new content than about new formats: internal assessments with published criteria, a 4,000-word research essay and papers that reward argument rather than recall.

Ras Al Khaimah has an IB continuum campus on the Al Hamra side of the emirate, so an IGCSE student here may be weighing a Diploma place against an A Level route in the city or in Sharjah. The subject that most often decides it is mathematics: a 9 or A* at Extended tier makes Analysis and Approaches realistic, while a 6 or B usually points to Applications and Interpretation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Ras Al Khaimah families ask about most, with what each one is actually assessed on and where the marks tend to go. Every subject is taught against the specification your child is entered for, Cambridge or Pearson, not against a generic syllabus.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Two papers, each worth half the grade. From the 2025 Cambridge syllabus one paper in each tier pair is sat without a calculator, while Pearson's Mathematics A allows a calculator in both. Marks are lost on method presentation, on exact-value work and on the multi-step problems that sit at the back of every paper.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for Higher Level or A Level mathematics. Two papers of two hours each, covering calculus, trigonometric identities, series and vectors. It is the single best preparation for a Diploma Analysis and Approaches course, and the subject where a strong IGCSE student most often meets genuine difficulty for the first time.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Pearson

Cambridge splits the grade across a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and either a practical test or the alternative-to-practical written paper. Pearson's 4PH1 has two written papers and no practical exam. Electricity circuits, moments and the describe-an-experiment questions are where most of the lost marks sit.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Pearson

Moles and stoichiometry decide the grade more than any other topic, and organic chemistry decides whether the top band is reachable. The practical or alternative-to-practical component rewards students who can read a results table and identify a source of error, which is a trainable skill rather than a talent.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Pearson

Content-heavy and deceptively easy to under-prepare. The marks are in precision: naming the correct process, using the command word the question asked for, and writing an answer whose length matches the mark allocation. Genetics and transport in plants produce the most predictable errors.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Core and Extended · Double award

Three sciences compressed into a double award, common where a timetable cannot fit three separate science blocks. It needs a tutor who knows which parts of the single-science syllabuses are out of scope, because revising from 0625 or 0620 material wastes weeks on content that will not be examined.

English as a First Language (Cambridge 0500 / Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

A reading paper and a writing paper, each half the grade. The reading marks go on summary and on close analysis of how a writer achieves an effect; the writing marks go on structure and register. Both are taught, not innate, and both improve fastest when a student marks their own work against the published criteria.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Reading, writing and listening components with a speaking element, taken by many students in Ras Al Khaimah whose school language is English but whose home language is not. Exam technique carries real weight here: the listening paper rewards note-taking discipline and the writing task rewards hitting the stated purpose and audience.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450 / Pearson 4BS1)

Single tier

Paper 1 takes short answers and data response; Paper 2 is a case study issued in the exam. Marks are lost by students who explain a concept correctly but never apply it to the business in front of them. Application and evaluation are where the top two bands live.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

A multiple-choice paper and a structured-question paper, with diagrams carrying marks of their own. Students who can draw a correctly labelled market diagram and then write a sentence about what the diagram shows pick up marks their classmates leave on the table.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478 / Pearson 4CP0)

Single tier

Two written papers: computer systems, then algorithms, programming and logic. There is no coursework. Pseudocode and trace tables are the two skills that separate grades, and both are practised rather than read.

Geography (Cambridge 0460) and History (Cambridge 0470)

Single tier

Both carry a skills or source paper plus an alternative-to-coursework option that schools in the UAE commonly choose. Source handling in History and the geographical-skills paper in Geography are the two components where a term of targeted work shifts a grade most reliably.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available, and the right one depends on how far away the exam is and what the student's error pattern looks like. All three are delivered online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one subject teaching

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor for one subject, running across a term or a full year. The first two sessions are diagnostic: the tutor works through the most recent mock script and the last two pieces of marked class work before deciding what to teach. This is the format that suits a student whose grade is stable but lower than it should be.

  • Same tutor, same slot, so the work carries between sessions
  • Taught against the entry code on the statement of entry
  • Written note after each lesson naming what was covered and what to practise

Exam-run intensive

A short block of two or three sessions a week in the eight to twelve weeks before a series, built around timed questions rather than content delivery. The student sits papers under time, the tutor marks them against the published scheme, and each session starts from the errors in the last script. It works only if the content is broadly there and the marks are leaking in technique.

  • Past-paper questions sat under exam conditions, then marked line by line
  • Topic list narrowed each week to what is still costing marks
  • Session timing moved after Iftar during Ramadan where families prefer it

Fortnightly maintenance and option support

A lighter arrangement for Years 7 to 9, or for a Year 11 student who is secure and wants to stay that way. One session every two weeks, usually built around a single topic and a piece of work the student brings. Families also use this format to work through option choices before Year 10, including whether Additional Mathematics is a sensible addition.

  • Lower cost than a weekly commitment while a gap is still small
  • Useful for Checkpoint feedback in March, May or October
  • Converts to a weekly slot when Year 10 starts, keeping the same tutor

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ras Al Khaimah

01

What a Ras Al Khaimah parent is really choosing between

  • Free is not the same as cheap if a group clinic cannot diagnose one student's error pattern
  • A centre seat buys content coverage; one-to-one buys diagnosis
  • Ask any private tutor, local or remote, about their MoHRE permit before the first lesson
  • Travel time inside an in-home fee is real money in an emirate this spread out

There are four realistic ways to get IGCSE support in this emirate, and they differ far more in what they are good at than in what they cost. The school's own clinic is free and is taught by the person who writes the mock, which is a genuine advantage; it is also a group of eight to fifteen students moving at one pace, and it stops when term stops. A city tuition centre sells a seat in a class, typically four to eight students, at the lowest hourly figure in the market. A freelance tutor contacted through a community group is the most variable option available: some are experienced teachers with a permit, some are undergraduates with a fortnight of practice, and the difference is not visible in the advertisement.

One-to-one teaching delivered online is the fourth option and the one this site provides. Its advantage is not the technology. It is that the pool of available teachers is not limited to people living within half an hour of your door, which in Ras Al Khaimah is the binding constraint on every other option. For Extended-tier Chemistry 0620 or Additional Mathematics 0606, the question is whether anyone nearby has taught that specification at that tier in the last three years. Often the honest answer locally is no.

The AED figures below are market rates published by providers in this region, not an IB Gram price list. They are included because three of the six largest competitor pages in this search publish no price at all, and a parent comparing four options needs numbers. Our own pricing is quoted after a free trial lesson and depends on subject, tier and session length, which is why it is not in the table.

One warning that applies to every option. Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and people tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific figure you see quoted as unverified.

Check which IGCSE your child actually sits before you book anybody

Parents in Ras Al Khaimah routinely book a tutor for the wrong qualification. The phrase IGCSE covers at least two different exam boards with different specifications, different paper structures and different grade scales, and plenty of schools in this emirate enter students for a mixture: Cambridge for the sciences and Pearson for mathematics is a common pattern. A tutor who revises the wrong specification can spend a whole term on content that will not be examined.

The document that settles it is the statement of entry, issued by the school's exams officer. It lists each entry code: 0580 and 0620 are Cambridge, 4MA1 and 4CH1 are Pearson Edexcel. If you cannot find it, the grade scale on the last report is a reliable second clue, because Cambridge IGCSE still reports A* to G while Pearson's International GCSE reports 9 to 1. A report carrying both scales usually means both boards are in play.

The difference is not cosmetic. Cambridge sciences carry either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper worth a fifth of the grade; Pearson's international science specifications have no separate practical exam and assess practical understanding inside the written papers. Cambridge mathematics from the 2025 syllabus includes a paper sat without a calculator; Pearson's Mathematics A permits a calculator in both papers. A student who has revised arithmetic fluency for the wrong board has wasted the effort, and one who has not revised it for the right board has a problem.

Series availability differs too, and that matters for resits. Cambridge runs June and November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson runs International GCSE in May or June and again in November. For a student who misses a grade by two marks, a November series is the difference between a retake inside the same academic year and a twelve-month wait.

03

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: the tier sets the ceiling

The single most consequential decision on an IGCSE entry form is the tier, and it is usually made by the school in the autumn of Year 11 without much conversation. In Cambridge mathematics, a Core entry means papers 1 and 2 and a grade range that stops at C. In Pearson's Mathematics A, a Foundation entry stops at grade 5. No amount of brilliant work in the exam hall lifts a student above the ceiling of the tier they were entered for.

That cuts both ways. An Extended or Higher entry for a student who is not ready produces a paper full of questions they cannot attempt, and the grade that comes back is often worse than the one a well-matched Core entry would have returned. The useful question in November of Year 11 is not which tier sounds better but which tier the student's last two mock scripts actually support, and whether the gap between them can be closed in the weeks remaining.

This is where a tutor earns their fee, and it has nothing to do with motivation. Read the mock script. Count the marks lost to topics the Core paper does not test. If most of the loss is in the Extended-only material, the conversation with the school is about readiness and timing. If the loss is spread across arithmetic, method presentation and misread command words, the tier is not the problem and a change of entry would hide a fixable issue rather than solve it.

For families weighing what comes after Year 11, the tier also closes doors quietly. A Core mathematics grade is rarely enough for an International A Level in the subject or for IB Analysis and Approaches, and in practice it narrows a Diploma choice to Applications and Interpretation. Raising the question in Year 10 rather than the term before the exam is the whole difference.

Where IGCSE marks actually go missing

  • Maths: missing method, calculator habits on exact-value work, unattempted back-of-paper questions
  • Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry, then organic for the top band
  • Physics: circuits, moments, and the named-measurement experiment questions
  • Biology: imprecise naming and answers shorter than the mark allocation
  • Business and Economics: analysis without application, diagrams without labels

Across the subjects Ras Al Khaimah families ask about most, the losses are predictable enough to list. In mathematics, the biggest single leak is method: an answer with no working earns nothing when the question says show your work, and exact-value questions punish students who reach for the calculator by habit. The second leak is the last four questions on the Extended papers, which are multi-step and are routinely left blank by students who ran out of time on earlier questions worth fewer marks.

In the sciences, the pattern is sharper. Chemistry grades are decided by moles and stoichiometry more than by any other topic; students who can set out a calculation in steps keep marks that others lose entirely. Physics loses marks on circuits, on moments, and on the describe-an-experiment questions, where the mark scheme wants a named measurement, a repeated reading and a stated control. Biology loses them on precision: the wrong process named, a two-mark answer given in half a sentence, a command word read as describe when it said explain.

In the essay and application subjects the leak is almost always the same thing. Business Studies candidates explain a concept correctly and never apply it to the business in the case study, so they sit in the middle band with accurate content. Economics candidates write good prose and draw an unlabelled diagram. English First Language candidates summarise when the question asked how the writer achieves an effect. Each of those is a technique problem with a short fix, which is why a tutor who marks against the published criteria moves a grade faster than one who re-teaches content the student already knows.

The diagnosis costs one session. Two marked mock scripts and the last few pieces of class work are enough to produce a list of four or five recurring errors, ranked by how many marks each one costs. That list is the teaching plan, and it is specific to the student rather than to the subject.

05

The entry deadline nobody puts in the calendar

Every family thinks about the exam date. Almost nobody thinks about the entry deadline, which sits months earlier and is the point at which tier changes, subject additions and private-candidate entries stop being possible. A UAE candidate has two realistic windows a year, and Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 series is the clearest worked example with published dates: the final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the results from the equivalent November 2025 series reached students on 22 January 2026 - roughly three months after the first paper, and the better part of a year after the entry for it had to be settled with the centre.

Read those dates in order and the planning implication is obvious. The decision about which tier a student is entered for has to be made while they are still mid-course, on the evidence of one mock rather than three. That is why a diagnostic session in October of Year 11 is worth more than four in May: it is the last point at which the information can still change the entry.

Pearson's calendar works the same way with different dates. The November 2026 International GCSE final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, which is the document to check rather than any date restated on a tutoring website, including this one.

One Cambridge detail catches UAE centres specifically. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs by zone. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school's exams officer which zone it is in, and check the official timetable for that zone rather than a generic one.

Who regulates your child's school here, and why it changes the answer

Private education in Ras Al Khaimah is regulated by the emirate's own Department of Knowledge, which the UAE government's own guidance describes as regulating private education in the emirate. That is a different arrangement from Dubai, where the Knowledge and Human Development Authority oversees quality, and from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, where the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises licensing and accreditation. Sharjah has its own authority, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The practical difference for a Ras Al Khaimah family is wider than inspection reports. Ras Al Khaimah's authority, like Sharjah's, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Curriculum and fee approval sitting with the emirate regulator is why guidance written for Dubai parents, including anything framed around KHDA circulars, does not automatically describe your school's position.

At federal level the baseline is the same everywhere. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, and must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. So a British-curriculum student in Ras Al Khaimah is sitting Cambridge or Pearson papers in most subjects and carrying mandated Arabic and Islamic Education alongside them. Those mandated subjects have their own requirements and, in Dubai's published version of the rules, their own class-organisation and language-of-instruction constraints. Treat them as part of the timetable load when you plan tutoring hours, not as an afterthought.

None of this makes IB Gram a regulated school provider, and nothing on this page should be read that way. We hold no approval, licence or accreditation from any UAE regulator or examination board, and we never describe ourselves as approved by one. What a regulator does matters to you because it tells you where to read your school's inspection report and who approves its fees - not because any tutoring company is party to it.

07

What a tutor may and may not do with coursework

  • Teaching the criteria: yes. Writing or redrafting the work: never
  • Feedback on a student's own draft is permitted and is where most of the value sits
  • No past papers, mark schemes or syllabus PDFs distributed from this site
  • Official sources: cambridgeinternational.org, qualifications.pearson.com, ibo.org

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than it used to, but it has not disappeared. Geography and History both offer coursework components that some UAE schools take and others replace with an alternative-to-coursework paper. Where coursework is sat, the rules about help are strict and the consequences of getting them wrong land on the student rather than the tutor.

A tutor may teach the skill the task assesses, explain the published criteria, model the method on a different example, ask questions about a draft the student has written, and point out where an argument is unsupported or a method is unsafe. A tutor may not write, redraft or complete any part of the work, and may not supply text for the student to use. We say this plainly because two of the sites competing for this search sell completed assessed work, one of them openly. That is a malpractice trigger for the student, and it is not a service IB Gram offers at any price.

The same boundary applies to the work that follows IGCSE. An Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay in the Diploma must be the student's own; a tutor's role is to teach the criteria, question the reasoning and give feedback on the student's draft. Students moving from IGCSE to the Diploma meet this distinction for the first time in Year 12, and it is worth understanding before then.

One related point on materials. We do not host or distribute syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. They belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and reproducing them is a copyright problem. In lessons a tutor works from official material through the proper channels and links you to the publisher's own page, which is also where you should check anything date-sensitive.

Five subjects at grade E or 3: the equivalency rule parents get wrong

Families in Ras Al Khaimah planning a UAE university route eventually meet Ministry of Education equivalency, and the published British-track requirement is more specific than the version circulating in tutoring content. Students on the British track must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details inside that rule change decisions. First, Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, so a student counting them towards the total may be a subject short without realising it. Second, the grade threshold is expressed on both scales, E or 3, which is why knowing whether your child sits Cambridge or Pearson matters even here. One competitor page ranking for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule says five.

The American track is specified differently and is worth knowing if your household might switch systems. English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB Diploma there is no points threshold we are willing to publish, because we have not read one on a Ministry source; ask the Ministry or your school's university counsellor rather than trusting a number on a tutoring site.

Equivalency is also not something a tutoring company performs, guarantees or speeds up. It is an administrative process run by the Ministry and the emirate's attestation channels, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. What tutoring can do is make the five subjects comfortably clear the threshold rather than sit on it, which is a different and more honest claim.

09

What happens if no specialist is free for your subject

Availability is the thing tutoring sites conceal and parents discover in week three. Our position is to say it in advance. For mainstream IGCSE subjects at both tiers - mathematics, the three sciences, English, business and economics - a match is usually available within a few days, and the trial lesson is with the tutor who would keep the slot rather than with a sales contact. For narrower combinations, the honest answer is sometimes a wait.

The combinations that take longest are predictable: Additional Mathematics 0606 at speed, Computer Science with a programming focus, Co-ordinated Sciences taught with the correct scope rather than from single-science material, and any subject needed at a specific hour that collides with the Gulf Standard Time evening peak. In those cases we will tell you the realistic wait, offer a different slot with the right specialist, or say that we cannot cover it well. The alternative - putting a generalist in front of an Extended-tier student and calling it a match - wastes a term that a Year 11 student does not have.

Timing in the week matters more here than families expect. Between about 4.30pm and 7.30pm Gulf Standard Time the demand curve for UAE families peaks, and the strongest subject specialists are booked first. A family in Al Hamra Village that fixes a Tuesday 5pm slot in September usually keeps the same tutor all year. A family that starts looking in April is choosing from what is left, in the term when it matters most.

If a subject cannot be covered properly, we would rather say so. There is no version of this where a student benefits from a tutor learning the specification alongside them in an exam year.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah's residential areas are spread over roughly forty kilometres of coast and inland belt, and the distance between them is exactly why the local tutor pool thins out so fast. Session timing is set by the school run and the commute, not by the emirate.

Al Nakheel

The commercial centre of the city and where most of the emirate's weekday traffic concentrates. School pick-up here finishes early enough that a 4.30pm start is realistic on weekdays, which makes it the easiest area in the emirate to timetable consistently.

Al Hamra Village and Al Jazirah Al Hamra

A gated coastal community roughly half an hour south of the city centre, with its own British and IB campuses. Families here often have the shortest school run in the emirate and the longest drive to anything else, which is why online sessions sit well against a 5pm start.

Mina Al Arab and Hayat Island

Newer coastal housing between the city and Al Hamra. Children here are split across campuses in both directions, so siblings frequently finish school forty minutes apart and need staggered rather than back-to-back session slots.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed islands with a mix of long-term residents and hotel-sector households. The single causeway in and out means an incident on the approach road can add twenty minutes to any journey, which is a real argument for a lesson that does not depend on anyone travelling.

Khuzam and Al Dhait

Inland city districts with a dense cluster of school-age children and one of the emirate's main British-curriculum campuses. Early-evening slots fill first here, so booking a fixed weekly time in September is worth more than flexibility in February.

Al Uraibi, Al Mairid and Julphar

The older city districts around the corniche and the Julphar towers. Apartment living means a quiet room for a lesson is sometimes the constraint rather than the schedule; a headset and a door that closes solve more problems here than software does.

Al Qusaidat, Al Rams and Sha'am

The northern strip running towards the Oman border, where a school run can be twenty-five minutes each way. This is the part of the emirate where an in-home tutor's travel charge is largest and where remote teaching changes the economics most.

Digdaga, Al Ghail and the inland belt

Agricultural and industrial districts inland of the city. Household internet is generally stable, but families here have the fewest local options for a specific IGCSE specification, which is the practical reason subject depth has to come from outside the emirate.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ras Al Khaimah

The city side: Al Nakheel, Khuzam and Al Dhait

Campuses within the city belt, covering British, Indian and American curricula. Students we support here sit Cambridge and Pearson entries through their own school's exam centre, and the mix of boards inside one neighbourhood is the reason a tutor must be matched to a syllabus code rather than to a school name.

  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam
  • RAK English Speaking School
  • Our Own English High School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Delhi Private School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School Ras Al Khaimah

The southern coast: Al Hamra and Al Jazirah Al Hamra

The coastal campuses, including the emirate's IB continuum provision. Families on this side of Ras Al Khaimah often choose between an IGCSE-to-A-Level route in the city and an IGCSE-to-Diploma route closer to home, and the mathematics grade usually decides which one is realistic.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the entry codes, not the school name

Share the statement of entry or the last report, with the syllabus codes and tier visible. 0580 Extended and 4MA1 Higher are different jobs. This one step prevents the most common failure in tutoring: a term of teaching aimed at the wrong specification.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic trial lesson

One free lesson per subject, with the tutor who would keep the slot and no card details taken. The tutor works through a recent mock script and a piece of marked class work, then names the four or five recurring errors that are costing marks.

  3. 03

Agree the plan and the slot

You get a short written plan: the topics in order, the number of sessions, and what the student does between them. The weekly time is fixed in Gulf Standard Time around the Ras Al Khaimah school run, and it stays the same so the work carries week to week.

  4. 04

    Teach, mark, narrow

Each session starts from the last piece of work. Questions are sat under time, marked against the published scheme, and the topic list shrinks as errors are cleared. You receive a note after every lesson naming what was covered and what to practise.

  5. 05

    Reset before each series

Six to eight weeks before a June or November series the format changes to timed papers and error review. If the tier or the entry needs a conversation with the school, that happens in the autumn term while the entry can still be changed.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The pool is not limited by driving distance

In an emirate where a specific IGCSE specification may have no local specialist at all, choosing from people who live within half an hour is the real constraint. Online delivery removes it, which is the whole argument for this format in the northern emirates.

Taught to the entry code

Lessons are planned against Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 and the specific tier, not against a generic subject. The difference shows up in the calculator rules, the practical component and which topics are in scope.

Market rates published, our own price quoted after a trial

The AED bands on this page are market figures from published provider rates, attributed as such. Our fee depends on subject, tier and session length and is quoted after a free trial lesson, rather than advertised as a headline number.

Marking against the published criteria

Most lost marks are technique, not knowledge. Work is marked against the examiner's scheme so the student can see which four recurring errors are costing them most, then watch that list shorten.

Clear boundaries on assessed work

A tutor teaches the criteria, questions the reasoning and gives feedback on the student's own draft. Nobody here writes, redrafts or completes coursework, and we will not pretend otherwise to win a booking.

Availability stated before you pay

If a subject, tier or time slot cannot be covered well, you are told at the enquiry rather than after the first invoice. A wait with the right specialist beats a fast match with the wrong one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

How do I tell whether my child needs an IGCSE tutor or just better study habits?+

Look at a marked paper rather than at the grade. If the lost marks cluster in one or two topics, that is a teaching problem and a tutor fixes it quickly. If they are scattered across missing method, misread command words and unfinished papers, it is a technique problem, which is also teachable but needs exam practice more than content. If the work is right but never finished, the issue is time management and a tutor is the expensive answer to a cheap problem. Send us a mock script and we will tell you which of the three you are looking at, before you commit to anything.

Is a group class at a Ras Al Khaimah tuition centre cheaper than one-to-one teaching?+

Per hour, yes. Published market rates for budget and group tuition in this region start around AED 45 to 150 an hour, while qualified one-to-one online teaching runs roughly AED 150 to 300 and exam-board specialists AED 200 to 450. Those are market figures, not our prices. The comparison that matters is cost per mark gained. A group of six moving at one pace is efficient for covering content and poor at finding the four specific errors costing your child marks. For a student who is behind on content, a class can work well; for one who knows the material and keeps losing marks, it rarely does.

My son's school runs free revision sessions. Why would I pay for a tutor as well?+

Often you should not. School clinics are free, run by the teacher who writes the mock, and aimed at the content most of the class is missing. Use them first. The gap they leave is individual diagnosis: a group of a dozen students cannot be taught from one student's error pattern, and the sessions stop when term stops. Paid teaching makes sense when the school's provision has been used and the marks are still leaking, when the subject needs a tier-specific specialist the school cannot spare, or when the student needs work in the holidays before a February or June series.

Which IGCSE subjects do Ras Al Khaimah families ask about most?+

Mathematics first, by a wide margin, and usually Extended or Higher tier in the autumn of Year 11. Chemistry and Physics come next, driven by students aiming at science routes after Year 11, and the losses there are concentrated in moles, circuits and the experiment-description questions. English as a First Language and English as a Second Language follow, then Business Studies and Economics. Additional Mathematics 0606 is the smallest group and the hardest to staff locally, which is exactly why remote matching matters: there may be no one in the emirate teaching it at the level a strong student needs.

Can one tutor take both Cambridge 0580 Maths and Cambridge 0625 Physics?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. Maths and Physics overlap enough that one specialist can often carry both at IGCSE, and the shared session note helps because the algebra failing in Physics is usually the algebra failing in Maths. Chemistry and Biology are a different matter: the detail in each is specific enough that a single tutor covering all three sciences at Extended tier is usually spread too thin. Where we cannot staff a combination with one person, we say so and offer two tutors who share a plan rather than pretending one can do everything.

Does it matter that the tutor has never set foot in my child's school?+

Less than you would expect, because the examiner has never set foot in it either. What matters is the specification and the tier your child is entered for, the mark scheme the paper will be marked against, and the student's own error pattern. School knowledge helps with internal deadlines and the style of a particular department's mocks, and a good tutor asks about both in the first session. In a small emirate the alternative is real: insisting on someone who knows the campus often means accepting someone who has never taught the specification.

How many sessions a week does an Extended-tier Year 11 student usually need?+

One a week per subject for most of the year, moving to two in the eight to twelve weeks before a series if the marks are still leaking. More than two a week in the same subject is rarely useful: the limit is not teaching time but the practice a student does between lessons, and a student with four hours of tuition and no independent practice makes slower progress than one with a single well-planned hour. We would rather run one session a week for twenty weeks than four a week for five, and the cost usually works out lower as well.

What should I send before the first lesson so it is not wasted on diagnostics?+

Four things. The statement of entry or last report, so the tutor has the syllabus codes and tier. The two most recent marked mock scripts, which are worth more than any description of the problem. One piece of recent class work with the teacher's comments. And the internal deadlines, if coursework or an alternative-to-coursework paper is involved. With those, the first lesson teaches rather than interviews, and you get a ranked list of recurring errors out of it. Without them the first session is spent finding out what the papers would have shown in ten minutes.

Is it too late to start if the exams are five months away?+

No, and five months is a reasonable runway for a tiered subject. What changes with time pressure is the method: less content teaching, more timed questions and error review, and a topic list narrowed to what is costing the most marks. What a short runway cannot do is undo a tier decision, because final entries close months before the papers are sat. If you are five months out, the first useful step is reading a marked mock and checking what tier your child is entered for, in that order.

Do you teach the Core tier or only Extended?+

Both, and the distinction shapes the teaching completely. A Core entry caps the grade at C in Cambridge subjects and at 5 on Pearson's Foundation tier, so the plan is to make every mark on that paper reachable rather than to tour the Extended material. Students are often taught from Extended resources by default, which wastes weeks on content that will not be examined. If a Core-entered student is clearly capable of more, that is a conversation with the school in the autumn term, while the entry can still be changed, not a reason to teach them the wrong syllabus.

How does a tutor handle a science practical if the lessons are online?+

By teaching the component that is actually assessed. Cambridge sciences carry either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and most UAE candidates sit one of those two under their school's arrangements; Pearson's international sciences assess practical understanding inside the written papers instead. Either way the marks go to reading a results table, identifying a source of error, naming a controlled variable and describing a repeated measurement. All of that is taught on screen with real data sets and past questions. The hands-on work happens in the school laboratory, where it should.

My daughter is in Year 9 and has not chosen her IGCSE options. Is tutoring premature?+

It is the cheapest point to intervene, and the least common. A Year 9 student needs one session a fortnight, not three a week, and the work is closing gaps in algebra, scientific writing and reading for command words before those gaps become grade ceilings. Cambridge Checkpoint feedback in March, May or October is a useful starting document. The option conversation itself is worth one session: whether to add Additional Mathematics, whether Co-ordinated Sciences or three separate sciences fits the timetable, and what each route leaves open after Year 11.

What does a private tutor in the UAE have to hold legally?+

A private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible groups include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private lessons without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so ignore the amounts circulating online. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Ask any tutor, local or remote, about their permit.

Do you give students past papers and mark schemes to keep?+

No, and nobody should. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and redistributing them is a copyright problem rather than a grey area. In a lesson a tutor works from official material through proper channels and sends you to the publisher's own pages for anything you should hold yourself. Your school's exams officer can also tell you which material is available to candidates at your centre. A site offering a bundle of mark schemes as a download is telling you something about how it operates.

Is private tuition cheaper in the northern emirates than in Dubai?+

For in-home teaching, usually not in the way parents expect. The published market range for in-home one-to-one across the UAE is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, and in a spread-out emirate the travel component is larger, not smaller, because a tutor covering Al Hamra Village and the city centre in one evening is paid for the drive. Online teaching costs the same wherever the family lives, which is why the gap between the two formats is wider here than in a dense city. Those are market figures from published provider rates, not our price list.

Start with the entry code and a marked script

If you are weighing an IGCSE tutor in Ras Al Khaimah against a group class, the school's own clinic or a local freelance visit, the comparison gets much easier once two documents are on the table: the statement of entry, which names the syllabus code and tier, and the most recent marked mock script. Send both and the trial lesson can start with teaching rather than questions. One free lesson per subject, with the tutor who would keep the slot, no card details taken, and an honest answer if we cannot cover your subject well. Lessons run online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, around the school run.
